Unless something changed when I left Maine in July of 10 - they also do lunch and dinner (brunch is a one day affair) -wrong yelp category for food.... The owners are always there and are wonderful - I owned a business/home within miles of this place and if you know what it used to be - complete about face - service, great food, the money invested in the much needed for years updated - not just decor - we're talking equipment - functionality, cleanliness - etc I've never had a bad meal there - gone for dinner and lunch only - never did the brunch - always meant to - maybe next time I'm up north! I hope if you are visiting for winter or summer fun in Southern Maine or a a local resident you'll stop there - support your local community! Plus - it's great! LOL I miss going there!

It's OK. Nothing great, but OK for a routine meal. Service is good. Waitress was friendly and very helpful. Menu was so-so. Sirloin tips are good. Sunday is not the best day to go - they're closed Monday and Tuesday so they're out of some menu items and sideson Sunday.

Went here for Sunday brunch with family. Prices were very reasonable and the portions were enormous. I wasn't even able to finish my meal, which is unheard of. Other than the Hollandaise sauce on my omelette being too thin, everyone at the table was very happy with their food. The staff was friendly and very accommodating as some of our party arrived very late. The decor and the clientele seemed a little dated (stuffy?) but since we were dining with the parents this turned out to be a plus. Overall, our brunch was very good and we will likely return the next time we go out with family.

While visiting my parents, I went here on a Saturday night. There was a wait for bout 20 minutes, the place was packed. They have a great wine list, so I enjoyed a glass of wine at a decent price. For apps I ordered the shrimp cocktail, nice, fresh and plump. I went with one of the specials which was a filet smothered in sauteed onions and blue cheese, served with grilled asparagus and garlic mashed potatoes. So Good! My dad has the prime rib, which was so tender and flavorful. I didn't have room for dessert, but I'm sure that it would have been just as delicious as the meal.

My wife and I frequent the Bistro about once per month. It is a great place with very good food and good service. I often am eating from the "cow" part of the menu. The steaks are good and always cooked as I order. The prime rib is also delish. Have also had some of the fried fish which is good, but not much different than fried fish at other places. A few times this past summer, my wife had the stuffed lobster which she loved. The lobster was stuffed with scallops and more lobster....not just breading. Service has consistently been great. Friendly and accurate. If you are in the area, it is worth the drive to "downtown" Alfred for dinner here.

My mom and I stopped in for lunch. It's a cute place with a good atmosphere. Our server was great, and super friendly. The food was also wonderful, I had a salmon burger and my mom had a lobster roll. Both were delicious. Nice place to have stumbled onto!

Was here for St. Patty's Day. They had an Irish Band playing. Had the Corned Beef & Cabbage. Very tender & tasty with a green beer The place was packed but we still had great service. Moderately priced. Would definately go back.

Good food somewhere within a 20 mile radius of my house?! Awesome! We came here on a whim and were very pleased with our decision. I had the bacon and tomato scramble which came with red potato home fries and a choice of bread. They serve a little basket of brekky bread before you order which is always a plus, especially when it involves cinnamon and a tiny bit of frosting. The interior of this place is nice, but not so nice that you feel out of place in jeans and bean boots. The coffee was good and the wait staff was attentive. Although this restaurant is a little farther away than our regular Sanford breakfast joint, we'll probably make the trek. Can't wait to try dinner here as well!

Food was incredible. It took longer than expected to come out, but was worth the wait. The hostess however was extremely rude to us and purposfully picked others (at least 2 other parties) without reservations who came after us (with the same number of people in their party) to be seated before us. When we complained to the owner when we were seated he was unconcerned and brushed it off like nothing happened.

Incredible Food and Service! Was visiting from out of town and was told this was the place to go! The staff were all so nice and attentive and my steak was cooked to perfection! Certainly will recommend this place to others.

Been twice since it opened, food ok but not good enough to draw us back. Dining room feels stuffy. This is generally our last choice, we will drive further for better options

You have to try the mussels and brunch on Sundays. Simply divine. When my husband and I went there, there was a local musician with his wife playing Sinatra and taking requests. Fabulous food, fantastic Bloody Mary's. The style and atmosphere is my version of modern country sheek.

ok, overpriced and very bland. had the bistro steak which was absolutely awful and the fried seafood it was ok but very small portions. mushroom app was ok just a lot of fried breading. Would have sent the steak back but it took too long to get in the first place. Waitress, owner atmosphere was very good. this is our third time, back in the summer had a cold soup, I don't remember what it was but it was FANTASTIC and the steak we had then, rib eye, was awesome. Maybe this was an off night. Have not tried the brunch yet. We will give 1 more shot before be go elsewhere. We try to support local business and will be disappointed if we chose not to return

We were driving down 202 from Fayette and we happened upon this little gem. We thought it might be pricey and that we are underdressed, but-neither one of these were true. We were greeted by a very attentive maitre ' de James. It wad Sunday of Labor day weekend, we got a table right away and our waitress was Casandra. James let us know that since it was a Sunday (but a holiday) that a side and dessert were complimentary. Our meal was lovely. I asked them to change the scallops from baked to broiled (no problem). I concur with the previous post, I also ordered the rum punch. A little pricey at $9.99, but then I got it. Not only was it in I believe a brandy snifter, but not just a shot of rum. We had just spent five days in central Maine - alot of rustic and to find this place while just driving by....awesome. Exactly what we needed. And then James saved the day by suggesting a place to stay the night. Exceptional service all around.

I was not impressed. My boyfriend and I went for dinner we both ordered a fried seafood dish I'm not sure where the seafood was because it was mostly breading I squeezed half a lemon on top of my fried haddock and it absorbed into the breading and I could not taste it at all. The French fries where disgusting. We had ordered nachos for an appetizer and it was very good the waitstaff was very nice and made me a custom drink and I was thankful for that. I would recommend them but definitely wouldn't recommend anything fried.

There is no other time when a restaurant is fully booked and you feel like your arrival has been met with almost diplomatic grace. Last night I arrived with my husband and two friends to eat dinner and the host James was most gracious and allowed us to enjoy a superb meal in his very busy and well established restaurant. Every single bus boy that passed by greeted us with a welcome or have a good evening expression. My friends said it was well worth the wait because the food was so enjoyable. Our waitress Cassandra was exceptional. Cool calm and professional she took our order and did not miss a beat with whatever it was we needed or desired. The mussels were fantastic the steaks prepared perfectly the salads refreshing the clam chowder filled with clams and silky smooth the drinks enjoyable and the desserts delightful. We had a most memorable time and look forward to returning again and again to experience the hospitality of the Oak Street Bistro.

First impression positive. Looking for an inexpensive and quick lunch, we were a bit uncertain on entering; the restaurant looked a bit formal and pricy. A friendly welcome overcame our doubts and we were seated. It was a long walk to the table. This place looks well set up to do functions. Lunches of Mount Ossipee sandwich and Cobb salad were well prepared and portioned. Nothing fancy. Just good food. Service was friendly and attentive, we were in and out at a decent rate, our informal dress was not out of keeping at lunch, and we didn't have to spend too much. Quick and inexpensive, not quite, but worthwhile, yes.

The Rum Punch is the best around. Friendly service and a smiling owner, what more could anyone want? I used to go to Barnicle Billys in ogunquit for rum punch..... Not any more, the Bistro is the best. They dont just do rum punch the other items are tasty as well.
