Whenever I am home I head up to players and it never disappoints! Food is delicious, bar atmosphere is the best in HOCO, and you won't find more HD TV's anywhere. The bartender Noah is always down to have a conversation. Not sure what more you would want out of a neighborhood bar. Can't wait to check out the new outdoor bar I see in the pictures!

food is around average to average +. however, the owner is just about the cheapest in the biz. I asked for extra blue cheese with my buffalo chicken tenders. it came out with none. so I again asked for 2 blue cheeses. they brought out 1. I was very hungry that day, so I ordered another set of buff chix tenders. this time I asked for double extra blue cheese. it came out with 1 blue cheese and 1 ranch (I hate ranch). when I got the check it had 4 charges of .75! normally I do not complain about such trivial matters, however, after what had transpired I had to say something. the owner came over and told me that because the price of chicken fluctuates that he had to make up for it by charging .75 for each extra sauce. he also said that the buffalo sauce on the chicken tenders counted as a sauce (mind you, none of this was on the menu or explained at the time of order). he did tell me that he was gracious enough to take ALL the charges off for us. the check came back with 2 of the charges still on the check. since the owner went to such lengths to tell me how generous he was, I made mention to the server that the owner promised to take off ALL charges, but two were left. she said no problem, brought back the check and it still had 1 charge on it of .75!! we left steaming mad. we still left a good tip as the server was very good. two questions - don't you think it would be better to price in market fluctuations into your pricing rather than dinging patrons for extra sauce?? also, when the price of chicken is lower, do you give sauce for free? didn't think so. lastly, my cousin was charged an extra $50.00 on his credit card. yikes!!

Went there for lunch on a snowy Saturday. I had a great Cuban sandwich. The staff was friendly.

I asked where the fish for the fish and chips originated and the restaurant could not tell me. That's too bad. Soon no one will know where the food comes from but for now all restaurants should know where the food they serve comes from.. I did not order the fish and chips fearing it came from China or Vietnam.

I met a friend here for a drink last week. We sat in the bar area, which was so hot it was almost unbearable. Granted the temperatures were up near 100 degrees that day, but it seemed to me that the owner ought to think about upgrading his air conditioning system in order to be able to keep up with the bar traffic and keep everyone temperate. The waitresses were friendly and apologetic about the temperature and the drinks were good (I hate a pineapple martini of some sort). But we didn't stay long due to the temperature. I'd say either visit in the winter or find another location!

If you're looking for a good happy hour spot in hoco, this is it! The patio bar is great, and they have live music some nights which is Also a plus. The bartenders are always good and the food is decent, some things definitely better than others. The happy hour has a free buffet which is nice, although the food goes pretty quick and doesn't get refilled too often. Overall, definitely a good bar spot for the neighborhood.

The owner seems to have jacked the prices up to better fill his pockets. The few meals we have had were tasty although feel it is mediocre cuisine for the prices. ELEVEN dollars for a wedge of ICEBERG lettuce topped with cheese, bacon and tomato! That is quite a profit margin. In my opinion ALL drinks are overpriced. The wait staff have been very pleasant and efficient the few times I have gone here although there seems to be a regular turnover which may be a reflection on poor management or a difficult employer to work for. We will continue to look for a more owner friendly business to support. This place smells of greed.

Food was excellent. Had black and bleu ribeye sandwich. And chips and pico de gallo. Place is very comfortable and inviting. Plenty of TVs for sports. Waitress I hope was having an off night, while good fast food service, waitress service was slow today.

I was very surprised with the environment. From the outside, I really thought I was about to walk into an old smelly dive bar with nasty pool tables and cigarette burns leftover from the 80s. I was pleasantly surprised, especially with the bar area. They definitely cater to the sports watching crowd with the multitude of TVs every which way you can turn your head. Even though I'm not much of a sports watcher, the rest of the environment was pleasing. They have an awesome lit up wine rack covering one wall and the entire place was clean. Their menu is very extensive and I will most likely go back on a drunken afternoon simply because of the large variety and the convenience of the location. The downside is that the beer selection is pretty limited as is their wine list, especially considering they have a whole wall covered with wine. The food was hit or miss. My crab corn chowder was excellent but my cob salad was severely lacking. My husband's tex mex eggrolls were great but his rueben wasn't so hot. The bartender was nice. Overall, I would consider this a place to hangout if I don't want to drive far and I just want something very simple in terms of both alcohol and food. Based on ambiance alone they definitely deserve 3 1/2 stars but all things considered, its 3 stars for now.

OK, so this is my second review of this place. And I'm upping it to 5 stars. Again, the service was wonderful when we came in last Sunday. We sat out in the indoor patio area to watch the O's game. It was very nice. Food was great and always had a cold beer in front of us.

This place has one of the best bars in the western Ellicott City/Turf Valley area. Staff is pleasant and efficient. Food is good. Nice beer selection. Beer prices are a bit high ($6 for a pint of Stella!) but they are high everywhere since InBev bought up all the brands.

The atmosphere is great. We stayed out in the outside patio that has it's own bar. The bartenders were super friendly and fast. The patio is covered and quite large. I checked out the inside restaurant section and was impressed by the decor, it is very cozy inside, I believe there was a fireplace. Then there's the indoor bar, which was also nice. There are big screen TV's all around the patio bar and also in the inside bar playing sports stations. I was surprised by the food. I got the Thai chicken appetizer, fried pieces of white chicken in a sweet n sour type sauce, very good. I also got the crabcake sandwich. The crabcake was pretty good for bar food. Nice plump crabcake with large chunks of crab and it held together well. My friend got the crab nachos, it had a lot of crab on it and he really liked it. Looks like other folks were having a birthday party on the patio. This is a GREAT place for dining, bar lounging, listening to bands or watching the game. It is kid-friendly as there were kids hanging out with their parents. Love this place and will be back and bring the kids next time!

My wife and I had dinner in the bar room on a Monday night. Good food, great service, and domestic drafts were three bucks. I like this neighborhood joint.

I had dinner there tonight. Chicken Picatta. Very good. When I told the server that I'd need more than one tiny piece of garlic bread, he said that you only get one slice. If you want more, it's $2 a slice. How cheap can you get? To not put a basket of bread or at least a couple slices of bread is unacceptable. The server said it's their policy to not serve free bread. When I dine out, I want to feel pampered, not like I'm begging. Lighten up, Owner, a little bread won't make or break you. I don't like feeling deprived when I'm paying a reasonable amount for a mediocre meal. Make your customers feel welcomed and special. I just can't take the cheapskate atmosphere. I'm a big tipper and feel sorry for the waitstaff apologizing for working for a tightwad. Please sir, I want more bread.

Had the crab stuffed avacado last night and what an incredibly mediocre dish it was. The crab was very fishy and tasted like it was starting to spoil, the avocado was not fully ripe and was bit hard to bite through, and the cilatron lime ailoi was a bit too heavy on the lime for my tastes. They did have a fairly good selection of beers, but that wasn't enough to make up for the terrible meal. Overall it was a poor experience and I don't think I will be returning.

Way over priced, loud band no place to hide from the noise, portions were very small, everything had no flavor for the nice decor that made it feel like an upscale place, waitress did not have a clue on drinks. Food came out way too fast to be fresh made. The kids applesauce was an actual plastic store snack size that the lid was taken off of, when asked about the Mac n cheese we were told it was just the Kraft Mac n cheese. Save you ears and your money! Too bad the food quantity and quality did not match the high price and nice decor. Will not go back

Good clean sports bar. Joe the bartender was great. Very good crab dip Joe made sure we had xyta bread and plates. Plenty of televisions for viewing sports. Didn't eat in the restaurant part but the bar area was a good time.
