Well, since the restaurant changed hands since the last time I was in there, it has gone down hill real quick.I don't even see the nice chef that was in there. Ugh! Sorry won't be going there any more. I never see any one in there, There is a lady in there, she seems nice, but it is like the hospitality if way off. Sorry.

Chicken was great - I wish they were busier that way I could smell the food from outside. I want to go back and get something made fresh to really explore the menu. The rice was okay and had another flavor on it. I thought it was nice but not great. The beans were nothing great. Please support them so they can grow and generate some excitement with this great concept of Peruvian food in the Woodlawn area.

It's good little places like this that put a smile on my face, and in my belly. Stopped by here after wanting to go for some time. I got the half chicken special (1/2 chicken + 2 sides) and the Chicharrones (which come with fried yucca). Full well knowing I would be taking a lot home. The chicken is really good. Moist, charcoal-y, a bit sticky, a bit crunchy. I really like seasoning. Not too salty. Lets the natural chicken flavors do the work. Helps me think about summer time and bbq chicken. The beans were actually really good. The plantains hit the spot as a nice, sweet compliment to the other savory items. The chicharrones were very well prepared, though I was expecting smaller, fattier pork pieces. Not the chunks of pork meat that I got. NOT COMPLAINING!!! You can never have too much pork in your life. They do need some seasoning though. But I would recommend them. The fried yucca that came with it tasted like, well, yucca. Starchy. A bit sweet. Good snack. The gentleman behind the counter was very nice. The place had steady lunch time customers of both the eat in and carry out variety. This is definitely a good spot that deserves your belly's attention.

Peru a la Brasa (the storefront still states that it's 'Pollo & Steak Grill') offers charcoal chicken by 1/4, 1/2, and by the whole. They also offer family combos as well as sides (yuca, french fries, plantains, fried rice, white rice, beans, green beans, coleslaw, and mixed veggies). I tried the 1/2 chicken with a side of freshly-fried yuca (these were soooo crispy and actually quite delicious, and one of the best yuca I've had in quite some time! They were also in smaller pieces, and great in dipping with the ketchup or the aji sauce) and mixed veggies (these were a little overcooked, with carrots, peas, corn, and green beans, and had a spiciness to them that I couldn't pinpoint). The chicken itself was not fresh, as it had been sitting in a metal serving tray for a while; we did ask if there were any more fresh chicken in the oven, but it was stated that the chicken available was 'fresh.' T___T The meat was definitely on the dried out end, and the skin had a nice combination of seasonings - I'm sure it would have tasted much better when it was piping hot. The aji sauce (slightly mustard-y) came in small containers, and I was surprised that they weren't TOO stingy with these. Service was a little stand-offish as well T___T Plenty of seats within. +freshly-fried yucas! :D +chicken was not hot +not too stingy with the aji sauce +plenty of parking

For those who don't know, 2 years back, this place was known as "pollo steak and grill". The place was nowhere near as well decorated and clean as it is now but everything that mattered to me (the chicken) counted and was spot on. In a previous review, it was enough for me to rave and make me announce what may seem like a heretical claim that this place hit one of the top 3 things I've tried in the DC area. Through a random investigation on yelp, I came to notice that "pollo steak and grill" was not closed. Several of the censored comments mention this and pics of peru a la brasa surface from what appears to the same owner of pollo steak and grill. So today I had the chance to try this chicken. The outer seasoning was remarkably similar to what I remember from back in the day. However, unlike my previous experience, the chicken was sitting out in a pan rather than in the charcoal rotisserie machine. The chicken was dried out, the seasoning did not penetrate the inner meat as I remember in the past and the chicken was cold. To say that I was disappointed was an understatement. I really want to give the benefit of the doubt and I'm hoping that they get the charcoal rotisserie in full gear during peak hours. However, I am a bit skeptical seeing many users giving reviews in the 2-3* range. The reviews for the chicken I had before (and on the previous listing) were all five stars and one four star review. It was that spectacular. Anyway, I have gotten my peace of mind knowing that the chicken is not on par with what I had in the past. If I happen to stumble by in the area, I may pay a visit, but I will not venture out this far for what they currently serve.

FRUSTRATING !!!! I want to like this place. I really do. They make it IMPOSSIBLE. They have never, not once, had a carry out menu I could take home They give you a business card with their website, Facebook acct and twitter account Website-Not a working website Twitter-No menu Facebook-No menu Yelp-Picture of menu too small to read And I bring this up every time I go in there Personally, from me alone, they have lost hundreds of dollars Not to mention all the people I was with that wanted to see a menu and get carry out/call in I hate to see a place go out of business. But, if they don't want my business, i'm happy to go get a pit beef 100 yards away on the other side of the bridge Sorry

This place is nothing to write home about. It's a clean and simple enough establishment, but nothing over the top. I had a chicken quesadilla which for some reason took quite a while to prepare. It was okay but the chicken wasn't anything special. It doesn't come with anything other than salsa and sour cream and I asked if I could order fries with it, but somehow that wasn't possible but they said they could do rice, so I agreed and tried not to count carbs. In any event, the menu has some good sounding options and is reasonably priced, but I wouldn't say the quality is as good as other reviews would suggest.

If you think chicken is boring, here is where I'll prove you wrong. I'll start by ordering you a half chicken for a cool $12, and I'll smile as you try in vain to decide between stewed pintos, blistered green beans, pork "fried" Spanish rice and caramelized plantains. I'll watch for the moment you first taste the crispy skin, flecked with salt, and the juicy, tender meat, bursting with chicken-y goodness. I'll offer you a side of their spicy sauce, a creamy cilantro-spiked jolt of flavor that will have you begging for a sip of my mango soda. And I'll wait for you to say the magic words: "I'm sorry. You were right. I'll never utter blasphemy like that again. Chicken is the most delicious food I have ever tasted." Friend, my work here is done. The only downside to this exhilarating experience? No AC. Which is probably a plus in the winter, but for now, take your food to go. Bet you it won't make it home untouched!

My first time here and 2nd time having Peruvian chicken and I must say my second experience was the best. The employees are very friendly and they will accommodate if one of the side dish isn't available. It's quiet, big booth, clean, nice decorations. Bonus point they serve Halal chicken. I am definitely coming back here again and will introduce this place to others.

Stumbled across this place last weekend and had to Yelp. Very good food for low cost which is not that easy to find. I got a whole charcoal grilled chicken which was very good and only cost $12.99. It was nicely seasoned with Peruvian spices which is a bit difficult to describe. A little bit like Jamaican jerk but not as spicy. If you are prone to get dipping sauces, do try the mild one first as it's my favorite. I also tried the Loma Saltado but I wasn't as impressed. Instead of using real potatoes, they used french fries but perhaps that's how it's done in Peru?? The owners are a very nice young couple from Peru and the are eager to get feedback from customers.

This place is an awesome hidden gem. While traffic is usually light here, the food is fantastic. The half chicken with potatoes and green beans is a staple for me, now. Highly recommended.

Wow. This place is amazing. The guy behind the counter(owner I believe) was personable and friendly. The food is fantastic. My fiancee and I both got a half chicken. It was so most and flavorful. We will be coming back many many times. Chicken Rico is dead to me now. Long live Peru a la brasa!

Wow! the chicken is truly amazing. The service is second to none. I was truly impressed when I saw the owner sample a piece of his chicken an could not seem to get enough of it....any boy was he right! I gave this place 5 stars based on the customer service and the quality of the chicken. My only complaint is the sides could be a little better. I had the fried cassava and it was delish. The spicy potato lacked spice. So glad I found this place.

I love Chicken Rico in Highlandtown, so I tried to go in with an open mind and not compare, but it just seriously does not compare. My husband and I ordered the family special with fried rice and plantains as the sides. He also ordered the chicken tacos and I picked up a tres leches cake. First the chicken... It was fine, but rather bland, as in no seasoning. The grilled taste puts it a notch above the rotisserie chicken from the grocery store. The fried rice was okay, but it's hard to mess up fried rice. The plantains are not fresh. They're frozen and then fried. Yuck. DH said the chicken tacos were no better than eating tacos from Taco Bell. I guess they're healthier and less processed. The tres leches cake was stale. I ALWAYS eat my dessert but this cake was just terrible. The main positives for this place is that the location is closer to me than Highlandtown and they deliver. We wouldn't rush to go back. It would be a last resort meal.

Peru a la Brasa is a nice cute sort of like hole in the wall, sit down, call and pick up place. I have always wanted to try Lomo Saltado a very popular Peruvian dish but hadnt so far. So, i found this place and yes i Know Puerto 511 exists, but i just wanted a no frills type place. Anyhow, i went there when i was around the area and place an order of the Lomo Saltado and Peruvian chicken. Both were really good. Tasted great. Will try it again when in the general area...

Great, great tasting chicken! Fresh and healthier than any fast food. HOWEVER...they need to work on raising the quality of the sides. If the sides were treated with the same respect as is the chicken, I'd go there every day! Maybe some moros, platanos dulces, fresh tostones, fresher salads, mac-n-cheese made with real cheese, and some fresh, white rice made with olive oil and garlic--just like abuelita used to make. Ask for the yuca frita--well done. It's delicious.

A total hidden jewel!! And they have INCA Kola. Food is 'plate licking' good. Our dishes were prepared from scratch so it took a little longer, but worth the wait.

I was pleasantly surprised. The food is well seasoned and the service was great. It's even warm and cozy and seems like a nice family establishment. We will definitely be going back

Totally my fav spot in this area. Family styled restaurant. Friendly & smiling always. AND the deliver!!! Yup I said it. Chicken is off the radar good, but I snatched a star because the sides could be better. The plantains are the BEST!

This place is over priced and is not at all what the reviews hyped it up to be. I've had much better Peruvian food. I ordered 1/4 of chicken with 2 sides and my daughter ordered lomo saltado. It took them 15 min to bring out her food. The group that paid after us got their food faster than my daughter did. Won't be coming back.

Was looking for a different place and found this in its place. Smelled great so what the heck. Not disappointed at all. The owner was helpful in making a choice and just plain nice. It's a small place but clean and cool. I ordered quarter chicken white meat with sides of green beans and fried plantains. Chicken is rottesserie cooked over charcoal. Absolutely awesome. Large portions perfectly spiced. Came with 2 sauces mild & hot. Mixed together they were perfect. Short wait. It was not busy and owner even offered to change stations on tv. With a bottle of water it was $8 & some change. I was in on a Sunday so it wasn't busy but I imagine they are packed during the week.
