As a long time resident of the Wheaton area, I was forever faithful to Los Chorros Pupusas... ... until now. Sergio's offers some of the best pupusas I've tried in the DMV, AND the country of El Salvador, PERIOD. Their variety is on point, offering chicken and cheese, bean and cheese, loroco and cheese, and my new favorite, ham and cheese. Coupled with some of the best Horchata I've had in a while, this place is a true gem! Do yourself a favour and head over there and try them. You will not be disappointed.

I've been meaning to try this place for years, first because it's in the neighborhood, and secondly because they have karaoke nights that intrigue me. I was disappointed. The food was a little below average and the interior was strangely smoky, like a cooking fire, and dingy. Only my 6 year old son loved his food, but he was very hungry that day. I doubt we'll go back.

Back in the days this use to be a place where you were able to have a nice meal. Well no more....I am extremely disappointed from today's meal. How can you screw up pupusas? They tasted like rubber and as if they were put in the microwave. I have eaten my share of pupusas and these were not fresh, probably 3 days old! my family and I attempted to eat 1 each but I was the brave one since I was really hungry... Needless to say I threw the rest away (6ea). One restaurant off my list....I am really a nice guy but I am just disappointed that the kitchen staff would serve a paying customer such a careless meal......

Excellent, cheap pupusas for dine-in or to-go. Best bet are the pupusas versus other food options.

I visited this place because is was listed in the February 2010 issue of Washingtonian Magazine in an article called "Ethnic Eats in Wheaton." It's half bar / half restaurant featuring Salvadorean & Latin foods. There are 22 tables and stools around the small bar. Signs are posted around the place advertizing they have karaoke night every Thursday, Friday, Saturday & Sunday. It has carry-out and delivery ($15.00 min. charge for delivery). There's street parking and the Wheaton Metro Red Line is a block away. They serve breakfast, lunch & dinner. Happy hour is Monday to Friday from 3pm to 7pm. This place is famous for it's pupusas. I can tell you, it was very crispy and tasty! The cranberry jiuce was served in a nice size glass (most places serve juice in same glasses.) They get points for that. There were only 3 tables with customers at 9am on a Saturday. That maybe a good time to go if you want to try this place.

I'm currently on a quest to eat out of every pupuserÃa in the D.C. metro area, so I didn't have a lot of time or stomach room to sample the menu here--I've only had the pupusas from the takeout window. I'm racking up pupusa notches on my belt at an alarming rate, but this experience isn't one that I'll forget quickly. They were incredible! Best pupusas I've had in MD, VA, and D.C. (and the Far Southeast of Chicago for that matter), in no small part due to the delicious, fresh, thick tortillas. And I'm intrigued by the other reviewers' mentions of esoteric pupusas. I'll be back with eager anticipation to start on the rest of their menu, and I'm happy to hear they mix up the Salvadoran with a little Guatemalan. Lets get some more reviews for this place to counteract that thoughtless one-star from the person who didn't even eat here... This place deserves business!

Had the tacos. Small but tasty. Comes with guac and pico. The torillias are smaller and thicker than most but very enjoyable.

Best pupuseria in Silver Spring, only Doña Azucena has claim it is better. Any restaurant that can make the hard to find rice pupusas this well has got me won over. They also make some "gourmet" pupusas, my favorite is the jalapeño pupusas (yes, I know it isn't traditional). Expect karaoke if you go late on weekends, that may or may not appeal to you.

I foolishly decided to try the Mexican food. Mole enchiladas? Bad decision. They were grease-soaked, cold and rubbery. Ceviche was partly frozen. Service was good though.

Sergio's Place is a fantastic Mom & Pop restaurant. It offered a variety of delicious authentic Latin American cuisine to choose from. I've been a couple of times and enjoyed their ceviche & pupusas. Best I've had in the area! I went on a Friday night and they offered karaoke so my Husband and I sang along to "American Woman". We had a great time! I would definitely recommend this place whether you're out for dinner with the family or for a night of karaoke with friends.

On the recommendation of one of our favorite waiters (Carlos at Louisiana Express-- he's a joy, tip him well) we checked out Sergio's in Wheaton. Carlos is originally from El Salvador and told us Sergio's is where he eats when he wants a taste of home. I'm no expert in Salvadoran/Central American food, but what we got at Sergio's tasted great to my inexperienced mouth. The Cubano sandwich, fajitas, and pastelitos guanacos (a Guatemalan specialty of pork and veggies in dough) were very tasty and the portions were very generous. The rice pupusas-- which came highly recommended-- were excellent. Prices, especially for the very large portions, were very, very reasonable. Overall, we had an excellent and highly affordable meal. Our only complaint was we wished the dining room had been a little fuller so we wouldn't have to worry about Sergio's ability to be around in the long term. We'll be sure to do our part and go back very soon.

What's a pupusa? Kind of like a quesadilla but made with a corn tortilla, (as opposed to a flour tortilla) but smaller, about the size of a dessert plate. The filling is beans, cheese and meat. What's a quesadilla, you ask? I don't have time to answer that... I went here to try the pupusa's, some say they are the best in the DC area. I'm not an expert, but I must agree that these were very tasty. I had two pupusas ($1.75/each): one with beans, cheese and shredded pork pupusa, and the other with just pork. They were freshly made, heated on the flat-top, crispy, hot, with melted cheese oozing out. Very tasty. I also ordered the horchata, a "refreshing drink made with rice, almonds, cinnamon (canella), lime zest and sugar," according to wikipedia. I didn't really know what was in it myself, but it was good! Refreshing, sweet, a little milky, a little spicy from the cinammon. Two pupusas and a drink for under $6 makes for a cheap lunch (or date!). I ordered from the take-out window. There's also a sit-down area, which was empty at lunch but apparently is a hoppin' latin karaoke bar on weekend nights. Apparently the yucca and chicharonnes (fried pork) here are better than your salvadorean mom can make... will come back to try that next!

Please try to avoid this place if possible! They try to keep the kitchen from view as much as possible, because it is dirty kitchen and the last time we went there, we saw a bug (maybe a roach?) near the kitchen entrance! We walked right out to never look back again....

I haven't tried too much here so I can't really judge the restaurant overall very well, but I feel obligated to mention their "gourmet" pupusas, which are an interesting innovation I haven't seen anywhere else (which is surprising since it's sort of an obvious idea). Most places just have the standard beans/cheese/chicharron combinations, but Sergio's Place offers a number of different additions, including ham, shrimp, crab, chicken, jalapeno, and a few others that escape me at the moment. They're not quite as good as you'd like (it's still mostly just a pupusa), but they're definitely tasty and a nice change. The jalapeno is the best variant I tried. Be warned, these pupusas are larger than normal, 2 of them could be a meal and 3 is too much. Oh, one other note: the restaurant has karaoke (in Spanish of course) on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. It's quite loud, so keep that in mind when you go here.
