I use to eat here all the time, years ago. But a tune progressed, they seemed to have cut costs by cutting the quality of ingredients. Soon there was a vast difference between this joint and the new one near Safeway who subsequently who suffered a similar fate. I tried Hunan Delight again for the first time in a long while, and it just keeps getting worse. the food is just do bland. There is little to no flavor. And eating my order of orange chicken is just me going through the motions. Jus do yourself a favor and skip this place. If you live in Walkersville, just make the drive to Frederick for anywhere else.

Not a bad option for a quick dinner. Good soups and the crab rangoon is crispy and has enough filling. Service could be better but all in all not bad.

How do places like this survive in Frederick County, home to some of the nicest restaurants in Maryland? In the parking lot of a nearby Walkersville shopping center was a badly run Asian restaurant (albeit, far better than Hunan Delight) that had the common decency to close its doors for good just a couple months after it's grand opening. But Hunan Delight somehow manages to do an Energizer Bunny - keep going and going and going - with some of the worst restaurant food I've ever tasted. It had been several months since I last sampled Hunan Delight's fare, and I distinctly remember it being less than wonderful. But, ever the optimist, I decided to try them once again, phoning in a to-go order for sweet & sour pork. I figured that by keeping the order simple, the better its chance of edibility (is that a word?). After pulling into the parking lot, I noticed there were no patrons in the restaurant. Then, after walking into the place, I noticed there was no heat in the dining room. I told the woman at the counter that it was kinda cold inside. "Warm back here," she replied, pointing to the kitchen. I got home with my $9 meal, ripped open the bag and flipped open the two cartons. One contained cold white rice and the other contained what I guess was Hunan Delight's take on sweet & sour pork. Remember the old joke about two women eating in a restaurant? One of them says, "Why do you always want to eat here? The food is just terrible." And the other woman responds, "Yeah, but look how big the portions are." In that second carton were roughly 100 hard, brown, marble-sized fried batter balls. Each brown orb contained a microscopic chunk of some meatlike substance and a few grams of lava-hot oil. At the bottom of the bag was a small plastic container half-filled with a couple ounces of thin pinkish-orangeish liquid - enough to coat about a third of those little pig pellets. I recall sweet & sour pork to be large chunks of tender batter-fried pork immersed in a thick, rich, sweet and spicy orange sauce filled with slivers of peppers and pineapple. What I got was something a kid could probably whip up in an Easy Bake oven. The times are a-changing in Frederick County. Audi- and Prius-driving yuppies are flooding in and buying up the overpriced condos here faster than they can be built. However, Walkersville (and neighboring Woodsboro) is still infamous for its redneck/ hillbilly majority. But, that still doesn't explain why the Hunan Delight's doors remain open. Even those with the culinary sophistication of hamsters would not find the food there "Delightful".
