Chinese Cuisine
The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.
Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.
There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.

Knowing the owners of a place can really make or break an experience. My girlfriends and I have been coming here for years since we lived in Waldorf. They have their faces plastered on the back of the bar from years of pageanting and being local celebs, and thus, we have been able to walk up to the bar, give Kiki hugs and chat like there's no tomorrow. A few beers or Mai Tais (try them here!) and all is well. Almost all of us have moved out of the area now, but we all make an attempt to come back here now for a few drinks to say hi and catch up over a few rainbow rolls and some chicken and broccoli. I can't comment on the sit down service because for the past 5 years all we have ever done is sit at the bar and have drinks and sushi rolls, but never have we had a bad experience here, and something caused us to start coming here in the first place to be considered "regulars". Now obviously less so, but it's still a little bit of nostalgia when we're all in the same state and we have to make a trip down to a tiny little Chinese/sushi place in Waldorf that we used to frequent.

One sign of a good Chinese restaurant is they do not have the zodiac and/or animal of the year placemats, which this place had. The party that I was with ordered typical Chinese food. Shrimp and Scallop in Garlic Sauce - There was too much sauce compared to the shrimp and scallops. It tasted a little bland. Singapore Noodles - This dish was actually liked by all. They have more meat and vegetables then the noodles which is a good thing. Whole Fried Fish (Red Snapper) - I was pleasantly surprised with this dish. It was so crispy even the section of the fish that was drenched in sauce was crispy. The fish meat was tender, flaky, and flavorful. I tend to gravitate to authentic Chinese restaurants, which this place is not. In other words, I like the weird stuff. Since they had a Japanese section, I ordered a sashimi platter. Just as long the fish was fresh, what could go wrong? I was wrong. You could still taste frozen ice crystals in half of the sashimi. The platter was $28 for frozen sashimi. I can go get a fresh comparable sashimi platter at other places for $12 to $19. In all, there is nothing special with this place except for the service. They were very nice and accommodating. If you like Americanized Chinese food, then this place is for you.

Place is always very good. Food is fresh, drinks are cold and staff is very friendly. Highly recommended!!!

Was really disappointed and unhappy with my food, I expected more especially from the other good reviews. Prices are moderate here but I ordered the simple sweet and sour pork and it was really soft and I couldn't eat part of it, felt like I was only eating the fat. Waiter wasn't friendly but did his job. My friend at least enjoyed her meal, maybe the pork was just bad? I looked at the menu they don't have much choice for desserts so I didn't pick any. For $14 .. It really wasn't worth it at all. The sushi is a little overpriced and the taste of it was mediocre.

Decent food dumplings are amazing. Service can be worked on if your dining in. I typically just get take out.

I found a hair in my food, the waiter tried to tell me it was my hair...first rule of business the customer is always right. Don't come here.

I love love love this place!!! Not too pricey and the food is fresh!!! A Waldorf gem indeed!!!
(5)Jennifer W.
The food was great and plentiful! Service was fast and friendly! The menu is large and includes lamb dishes and scallop dishes that you don't normally find in the takeout chains. We will definitely return!
(4)Cindy T.
Food was decent, nothing extravagant nor worth the prices they were charging. Sushi is usually a little pricey but I was expecting higher quality. The service was bad. Our waiter kept forgetting little things and we had to ask him multiple times for refills or parts of our order than didn't come out yet.

Food & service was great! I will return in the near future.. Our server was polite & on point. He made sure our orders were correct & prepared as we asked!

I have lived in Waldorf for almost 4 years now. While it comes as no surprise that it is a little challenging to get GREAT Chinese food in this area, Szechuan Garden is a consistent source of good food, good environment and decent service. We frequent the restaurant a few times a month and have never left feeling like we did not get what we did not expect. This has remained our go to spot.

Are you kidding in saying this is the best you can get in Waldorf?? So what is that saying for Waldorf ? This place has gone downhill at a gallop. The server was impatient and unhelpful. The food was full of sugar. And nobody but I and my wife were dinning on what should have been a busy Sunday. So sad when other the former owners the place was buzzing. Overpriced. No flavor but sugar. No imagination uninspired cooking not even authentic Chinese cuisine. Poor service. Other than that they were just fine.

I feel this restaurant deserves NO stars I generally am not so harsh but I should have heeded yelps reviews/warnings in regards to this facilities lack of customer service skills. We waited at the front entrance for at least 5 minutes without any acknowledgment until I hunted someone down to seat us. Then we received water cups that were filthy and after about 20 minutes of no one acknowledging us yet again we left. Please reconsider going to another venue in Waldorf before choosing this location.

SG, short for something good is the place you need to go if you are in Charles County and you want some delectable Chinese food. And yes I am talking about the Americanized Chinese food, the triple delight, general tso chicken, shrimp fried rice, all that. I'm gonna get off on a quick tangent real quick, some of you people kill me, when you say ah ah that's not real authentic Chinese food because they do not eat that stuff. But they sure do cook it up like a mofo. Most people call that Chinese food, you all can act all pretentious and call what you eat something else. My Asiatic brothers and sisters do a wonderful job of preparing this food for us to rejoice in and I for one am glad they have. Back to the review the food is nice and fresh, good size portion, parking is a snitch to get in there but if you want some good CF you gotta maneuver you all's crazy butts to get over there. They also give you free hot tea. I don't know why I'm not giving 5 stars because it's damn good, I could eat it probably 7 days a week. I'm making up a reason now, its not five stars because I felt like a fat sloth walking outta there all full and whatnot... there's your reason...click for post!

How to Insult Customers at a Chinese Restaurant - Serve "Chinese Food" Without Serving a Chinese Meal. That would be my headline to describe this place. I had the moderately priced "special" @ $16 Beef w/ Asparagus. I asked what came with it, and it was the normal response "white rice, or stir fried rice". So I figured since I'm paying so much (too much) for my meal, I asked for the "stir fried" rice. I won't express the words I wish to use, but to put a smidging of soy sauce to color it is not stir frying. Not to mention that the veggies and fried egg was missing. I've had stir fried rice WAYYY before that waiter was born, so I know stir fry. Not to mention that my wife, being from Asia, serves it too. I know that a restaurant sometimes acquiesce to the surrounding tastebud culture to prop sales, but the sauce to the beef was a bit too sweet too. I felt I should do another 100 sit-ups to burn off the sugar added. It's bad enough that Olive Garden and TGIFridays does that already, but I would like some Chinese restaurant to remain Chinese. The waiter I had no problems with. He was soft-spoken and cordial, and even asked me what I thought. So I told him about how I was ripped off with the missing stir-fry from the "stir fried" rice. He claimed it was pre-fried (whatever that meant). Perhaps he was lieing to me, or hasn't tasted stir fry yet.

This place is just OK. The ambiance is relaxed and quiet. Service is good, but the food is mediocre by my standards. I think it's a bit overpriced. This place does have some of the best Chinese in Waldorf, but not outside of that. I prefer House of Dynasty (Telegraph rd - Alexandria) or Hunan Manor (Columbia Md). Now those places deserve 5 stars, but if I don't feel like driving, I will come here.
(3)Jess B.
It's horrendously loud, the staff is unfriendly, and the food was so much better when they were a little storefront in a strip center. The quality and quantity served does not deserve the price tag that comes with it by any means.

Tonight was sub par! Usually I would rate this place higher but tonight the server was not on point and when we told them one out of the 9 dishes were too salty and was told well before the meal was completed, my mother was brushed off. My mother who is celebrating her 38th wedding anniversary was treated like she was trying to rob them! She asked to have a different dish and was brushed off! Then when the bill came we tried to explain again then he proceeded to count the shrimp in front of us and tell her she kept eating so it must not of been to salty! We asked for the bill and to speak to the Manager. Then the manager said the same thing. After explaining the fact my mother is hypertensive and she tasted the dish and realized she would be unable to enjoy the shrimp with broccoli she asked the sever for a new dish and after being blown off she tried to eat another fork full. Then my wife asked the manager do you want her to get sick in your restaurant or be happy with her dinning experience. Despite my mother's treatment and the way they spoke to her and my wife my mother still handed the server his tip personally and a proper tip at that! I will be eating at Joe's Noodle House for now!

A few of my friends who lives in the Waldorf area suggested Szechuan Garden as a "go to" spot for good Chinese food. One thing I've learned about Chinese food in the D.M.V. is the further you venture outside of the city, the shittier the Chinese. Sorry Waldorf, this isn't great Chinese.... Szechuan Garden tastes like your average carryout in PG or DC. Really nothing spectacular at all about the food. I paid $14 for triple delight and got the same amount of food I could get at Eddie's for $9.50 lol. The difference is Eddie's tastes better and I get my food in 10 minutes. This is why I don't mind going to PF Changs to spend $13-$15 on food. At least it doesn't taste like a carry out lol. The food isn't bad here but the service is definitely lackluster. I don't like the slamming of the plates, taking food before asking, or the "hurry up and leave here is your check" vibe. Nnnnno thanks....

I stopped here for lunch as somehow was craving mu shu pork. I haven't craved Chinese in a while and didn't know where a good "fast Chinese food joints" was located near me. I was at the library and saw it across the street. It was a good $5.00 more expensive, but I figured you are paying for the restaraunt atmosphere. I hoped at least the food would be better. It wasn't. Also, when I asked for extra plum sauce the young lady behind the counter actually rolled her eyes. I thought I was imagining it, but after she brought out another container and I asked for another as the tiny containers were only half full she went and got her mother! (Or at least an older woman.). She explained they already gave me extra. I said how much I will pay as I was splitting the food with someone. She said $1.00. I thought that was pretty steep, but paid it. I won't go out of my way to go there again as the food is much more expensive and just mediocre. I can get the same from Eddie Leonard's, Easterns or Danny's at a cheaper price with extra plum sauce andvwithout the attitude and eye rolling.

I had the Spicy Curry shrimp. My wife had the spring lamb.Son had the Crispy duck and my other son has the chicken fried rice to split with my daughter. WOW!!! This place crushed everything else in Waldorf!!!!! I asked for the curry to be "super OMG set my face on fire. It came out sort of spicy. To be fair, I eat stupid things. I am sure most people would have been offended by the heat. I enjoyed it. The Crispy duck was super good too. My wife let me taste her spring lamb and I was very impressed with it. The service could not have been better. I left a great tip and plan on coming back. I am stunned this place is in Waldorf. Waldorf tends to suck the good out of everything and desecrate the course. This place seems to be immune to that. I hope it stays that way. It has given me a reason to live.... Well a reason to live in Waldorf any way. We will go back.

The ambiance is quite nice. You know that you have entered a restaurant once you enter. The take out area and bar seems out of place and awkward but you won't mind once you've been seated. The water staff are amazingI hope they get what their worth at this establishment. It feels like a family business with the exception of one or two. The food was hot and tasty, not too much spice or sauce. We had to ask for tea. The drinks are a bit high but worth it (whew). I think that if they give more rice the price would be worth it too. The only piece I simply detest is that one of the waitresses demands a tip. I think doing so it so rude and really takes away from it all...
(3)Abegail A.
Wow, I can't believe this place got 4.5 stars! Sorry Yelpers in Waldorf, I'm giving Szechuan Garden 3 stars. This restaurant looked nice on the inside and outside. Like another reviewer stated previously, if you didn't know you were coming to a Chinese restaurant, you wouldn't have guessed otherwise. I order one of their specialty entrees with beef, shrimp, and mixed vegetables ($17.95-I can't remember the name). It came with a decent amount of beef/shrimp and tons of vegetables. The shrimp were pretty big, and I preferred eating them over the beef, which weren't cooked with consistency. Some of my beef was well done, while the other half was cooked medium. Not sure what that was about. The vegetables (broccoli, mushrooms, baby corn, and sprinkles of red bell pepper) had the right amount of crunch to them when I took a bite. I could have done with half the amount of brown sauce they pour over the dish though. I'm pretty sure that's what made it tastier though. Overall, not a bad meal. Service was okay. She didn't check back on us after we received our meal and we had to asks for refills. We were also still eating our meal and she already asked if we wanted it boxed up. Couldn't she see that we were still munching?! Szechuan Garden came recommended as the best Chinese restaurant in the area. Maybe it is, who knows. Good thing I'm rarely in this area. BTW-located right next to Sear's automotive.
(3)John M.
Food is pretty good.. best you can get in Waldorf area at least. Way overpriced though for what is basically take out chinese in a nicer sit down environment.
(4)John D.
Utter garbage. Took a long time to get be seated, the staff was not friendly and did not want to give my wife a side of sweet and sour sauce for her duck because it wouldn't be "Chinese" then. The waiter only checked up on us once and the lighting is terrible. All that and the food was at best average. Don't waste your time. We won't.
(1)Michelle N.
Orange chicken and Crunchy Beef are a must have here! I've been here only once so it's difficult to give a fair rating on the rest of the food, but for those two dishes, go for it! I also ordered a strawberry daiquiri and YUMMO! Service was nice, it wasn't crowded in the afternoon, clean resturaunt. For being in Waldorf, I'm VERY impressed.
(4)Gary P.
My wife and mother in law are Asian so I am no stranger to the cuisine. I have to say, this is absolutely the best Chinese I have ever had and both my wife and mother in law agree. We've sampled well over half of the menu and I have yet to find something that wasn't fantastic. The roles are great also! My particular favorites are the Lo Mein, Crispy Beef and the Szechuan Garden Rolls. The atmosphere and décor are also very nice and not your typical Asian dining experience. a burden but every

This place was much better before they expanded. Now the service is horrible. The servers are cold and unfriendly. Most of the servers look like they don't want to be there and they don't want you there either. Before they moved to this large, somewhat tacky building, the staff was very friendly. I don't understand what happened. The prices have gone up and the food is just so-so. I have no plans to return. There is nothing special about this place. I just don't like a restaraunt where the staff is nasty and unfriendly.
(1)Russ B.
Was a slow night when I was there so the service was very good. Food was good but not outstanding.
(3)Natasha S.
I was surprised to see that this place was rated 5 stars consistently. Then again considering that this is Waldorf, and Waldorf doesn't have very many Chinese people I then feel the need to let them down slowly. I thought the atmosphere was nice, but very American. In fact, I couldn't tell it was Chinese until I actually read the menu. The menu is all Chinese-American food that you can get from a carry out joint. Not bad size menu nonetheless. The server was an older Chinese male who was super stressed out and seemed really busy - being a Saturday night. He was very efficient and the food came out quickly. The only thing I would have to negate points for is that he never came back once to check whether we needed more water or tea. We had to ask 3 times. Now on with the nitty gritty! The food! We got Shrimp in Lobster Sauce which was in an egg sauce and had a lack of canned vegetables. I thought they could have had more substance rather than all sauce which was what it was. The Combination Fried Rice was decent, and pretty generous with fillings. We also got a Hunan Chicken which I thought was oversauced and not great at all. The Won-Ton and Hot & Sour Soups were decent and probably the best thing here. Last ordered, was the Crispy Duck which I thought was very dry and SALTY! I like my Duck roasted. After paying the bill, we were given 1 calender wall scroll. It had the menu on the back and the restaurants name ALL over it, very clever. Would I return? NO. The prices were high and the taste wasn't worth it at all. I'd rather take that extra drive down to VA or Rockville and get real Chinese food any day.
(3)Dominique C.
Good Chinese, sushi and ambiance...great choice for weeknight takeout...
(4)Colleen M.
Two words...Pineapple Shrimp. It is awesome! Overall, the location is nice and the price is reasonable. The pineapple shrimp is $17, so with a drink and a tip, expect to pay about $26. The portions are big, the pineapple shrimp meal is enough for two full dinners.
(4)Rich F.
Was good but kind of pricy.
(3)Gregory P.
First I must say that there is nothing wrong with this place at all. The service was good and the waitress was very helpful. The food on the other hand was just OK for what I expected. As one yelper said he could get this at an above average carry out. I would still come back to this place if I was in the area but high priced dishes I wouldn't order. Now the egg drop soup was the best I have ever had. Captain P Still a fan of P. F. Chang's
(3)Ashley J.
The previous review titled "Frustration" seems to be an isolated occurrence, but does not give any insight to the tasting of the food. The only reason I even visited this Chinese place was because of the good reviews, and I'm glad I did. They are definitely the best Chinese restaurant in the area and their taste quality surpasses every carryout around. Now mind you, it isnt PF Changs or some other expensive gourmet Chinese place, and the prices are higher than a typical carryout or Panda Express, but it is definitely worth it. I personally like my food rather spicy, so when getting a dish that says spicy, ask for it to be extra spicy, and then it will give a kick. Otherwise, their interpretation of spicy will disappoint. If you havent tried this place yet, give it a go. You will taste the difference!
(5)AJ C.
Over priced and they don't give you your money's worth of food. The service is not bad but the sever I got kinda came off rude a little. Overall it was too over priced with little portions.
(3)Char M.
I have only visited during the lunch hour to place a carry out order. I specifically enjoy the tasty and plentiful Sweet and Sour Chicken and Vegetable Spring Roll. The food has always been fresh and the customer service has been great. I hope soon to actually take the time to dine-in so that I can order the hot tea to accompany my entree.
(4)Alyson C.
I agree, this place is OK. Way overpriced for the unremarkable food and service. We paid over $40 for two people (starter, two lunch specials) and almost $10 for a tip. Everything was all right until we got home and realized they squeezed our full plates that we only had a few bites out of into these tiny beyond belief take out containers probably for sauces. I'm not kidding (see attached photo). It's beyond ridiculous that they screwed us over like this. Won't be coming back if they can't even give us what we paid for.
