The crabby fries are to die for and beer prices are ok.

what can i say ... this food is just never good. i've been here on multiple occasions, 3 times or so. the food is always served at room temperature. i usually find hair in my food. i'm tired of complaining about my issues to this place. wouldn't recommend.

Happy hours in Towson are super hard to find, and my friends crack on me because this is a student bar, but I don't care. $5 food happy hour deals from 3-7 and cheap beer (and a variety). Crab fries are my favorite, with a big ass beer or two. Just come with fun people. The snobs can go somewhere else without me :)

I called an order in because my sister suggested I go here. Placed an order for the meatloaf platter no gravy, full rack of rib platter extra sauce, 5 barbeque wings, 5 garlic wings and loaded crab potato skins. Estimated ready time 20 minutes. I arrive and parking was easy. It was a little after five maybe going on six. As I walked in the vibe was nice. Place not crowded. I asked about the $5.00 off of $20.00 I noticed on the yelp app and they had to go get a manager. No problem. I play by the rules. I went to check in and after I did so noticed it read 15% off so I made the manager aware. I didn't want to do anything wrong. Although he had taken the $5.00 off he recalculated with no problem saying that he would use which ever was the bigger discount. I thanked him. He never showed an attitude about it. Great customer service from both manager and the woman working the cashier. I received my food and was on my way. It was my intention to rate the store with 4 stars but they lost a star for no blue cheese and celery in one of the wing boxes and no sour cream for the potato skins. A little disappointing. But make no mistake the food was extremely delicious. I would like to return and dine in. I'm almost certain it would meet four stars.

Bill Bateman's crab cake is just awful. It's absolutely the worst crab cake I've ever gotten in Maryland. Mushy, too much filling. I wonder if it was frozen and came from some big supplier like Sysco and they just heated it up. I should have gone to the Corner Stable, which has a great crab cake or travelled the distance to G&M. If you've ever made the mistake of getting a "Maryland crab cake" outside of Maryland, you've got an idea of what Bateman's crab cake tastes like. I just can't believe how disappointing it was. It doesn't look anything like the picture in their advertisements. The french fries tasted old and a bit stale. The cole slaw was by far the best part of the meal, which is really sad. If you have to eat here, get the wings - never, ever, ever order the crab cake!

Came here for a holiday celebration. Wings were good; they definitely weren't the best I ever had or the worst. I tried the crab dip. I didn't like it. It tasted like a lump of stirred cream cheese to me. Mozzarella sticks tasted like your typical mozzarella sticks. Service, for me, was great. I wouldn't come here on my own, but my overall experience was fine.

Visited this location last night with a party of five people. The restaurant was not very busy, as it was a Sunday night, but you would have never guessed that based on the service that we received. We met our party in the bar area and headed to the hostess station to be seated at a table in the restaurant. Not sure if there was just one available hostess, but we waited a good five minutes before anyone came over to seat us. Once seated, we sat for at least 15-20 minutes before we had a server come to our table. One of our party had to ask a passing server to please send over whoever was responsible for our table, at which point we were finally greeted. Our server brought out food for four out of the five people in our party, making our fifth person wait another 5-10 minutes for his burger. We were also celebrating a birthday (which one of our friends mentioned to the server, who assured us she'd take care of it)... The table next to ours got a song and dessert, while we watched and our birthday boy didn't get recognized. The check came, which the server just quickly dropped on the table as she passed by on her way to another table. The service was passable, but by no means exceptional (or even good). The saving grace for our meal was the food, which is typical bar fare (and came out freshly made).

The food is good. Nothing super though... service is okay. I always order my favorite, a crab pretzel or shrimp melt wrap. They are both good. The mango sweet tea and lemonade is good too. This is a good place to grab a bite for lunch or late night... The bar area offers discounted appetizers. Very good prices. There are flat screens too...

Just park at the back of this restaurant and look at the how dirty it is and then consider if how they keep the back of the restaurant (garbage everywhere, grease stains running down the parking lot from the grease dumpster, frozen french fries boxes strewn everywhere) is how they keep the inside of the kitchen. DISGUSTING!

Straight up decent bar-style food. Nothing fancy- but all done well. My dad and I had excellent burgers- thick, nicely charred and crispy outside, juicy within- possibly pre-formed patty, but very high quality. Good, sturdy kaiser rolls, fresh, tasty toppings (I had Mr. Bleu-zingy horseradish sauce, onions, bacon, lettuce, tomaot, bleu cheese---goood!) with nice, crispy fries; my dad had basic burger with cheese, big-ass beer-battered onion rings-- goood! I've had their crab pretzel before--- nice soft pretzel, basic cream-cheese and old bay with little bits of crab-- good, filling, tasty. Wraps are good, wings are essentially chicken fingers doused in sauce....all good! They offer some fancier stuff- pastas, steaks, jumbo lump crab-- I've always been reluctant, because it is first and foremost a bar that offers basic bar food. But it may be worth a shot! Overall-- a nice, casual, bar-food style dining place. Large bar, lots of TVs, bar gets rather crowded in evening the few times I've been...but the dining room stays steady but not crowded.

I have to say that I never had a bad meal there while I was in college, but I wasn't a vegetarian then. You'd think that a place with such an extensive menu could offer more selection than a veggie wrap smothered in cheese and dressing, because really, I can't eat that shit. Offer something fresh, yummy, and thoughtfully planned. I mean, just one dish for Christ's sake. Anyway, the wings were nice when I ate meat. Tonight I had to send a salad back because it was rotten. Yes, rotten. When I finally found the waitress I said, "I can't eat this; it's rotten." I mean, dudes, please check on the food you are sending out to tables BEFORE you send it out to the table. Just because you're a sports bar and offer plenty of junk food doesn't mean you shouldn't have fresh salads if you are offering them. I mean--if you are OFFERING them, right? Makes sense. I don't know. I give up. I've been highly disappointed in their selection and food quality lately.
(2)Jenna B.
CRAB PRETZEL. Enough said. I've only been there once for wing night, and I remember them being pretty damn good. The menu has a million different options for all of your various moods. The nightlife though..not so good.
(4)Lee M.
You'll be OK if you stick with the bar food, like wings, crab pretzels, etc. Do not get a steak, salad or other entree because the cooks (frat boys from Towson State?) have no clue on how to cook a good dinner. Its not very quiet either so forget about a date here. Good selection of beer and appetizers. Great place to watch sports. There is a TV every 3 feet on the walls.
(3)miss b.
I love Bill Batemans...always big on the Chicken Chesapeake wrap, never disappointed in the food. Last time I went though, the service was a little iffy. The waitress couldn't seem to get anything right...she didn't write down what we ordered, didn't remember what we ordered, we didn't get exactly what we ordered, and she hardly came back to check on us. Maybe it was just her off night...it was busy and I cut a little slack...I'm not hard to please to begin with. I'm big on the food there because there's lots to choose from, people rave about the wings, and the atmosphere is fun.
(4)Shelly B.
My rating is all about the wings! They have, by far, the best wings you'll find in Baltimore. The "Atomic" wings are the hottest they make. I could stand a couple levels hotter, but they are still the best wings in town. They have a great bar and good service. If you're a wings connoisseur and haven't tried these, you're missing out!
(5)diana s.
What is this "bistro" nonsense? No "bistro" has all you can eat wing nights! Great place for beer, wings, and letting it all hang out.
(4)Kevin C.
The wings are amazing. End of story.
(4)Mike W.
The wings are great. The beer is reasonable. Whatever game you want to watch is on--especially is it's lacrosse. Even the ribs I had were excellent. The beer could be a little colder, the service could be a little faster, and the parking could be a little easier, but as beer/wings/sports joints go, this is as good as any I've ever been to.
(4)Sarah T.
This place has seriously gone downhill. I used to come here all the time. The only thing they can't screw up is the chicken wings. Today I ordered takeout, wings, crab pretzel, and the surf and turf. Crabcake is all filler, worst crabcake I have ever had. Steak was chewy, rubbery, tasted like it went though the microwave. Baked potato wasn't even done and they charged me $2.00 for cheese and bacon. All for $40. Never again.
(1)Gwen M.
Went on a Friday night, it was later, not too crowded. We ordered a medium crab pretzel to split and french onion soup as appetizers. My husband got a wrap and I ordered the SW Chicken eggrolls as my entre. The pretzel and soups came out quickly. Pretzel was luke warm and not very soft. Soup was good. Two minutes after we started eating, our entres came out. Awkward as we barely had eaten any of the food yet. The other items were good. Ordered a giant cookie ice cream dessert. The cookie was burnt on the bottom for half of it. They had good drink specials and the waiter was fine. Portion size was good. Fix the couple issues we had and they would certainly do better. They did have a Yelp check in special of 15% off which was honored.

Worst restaurant experience in a long time...don't come here unless you're going to watch the game, are already drunk, its late and have nowhere else to go or want to feel like killing yourself. Hostess told us we couldn't sit in the back room where it was quiet, but proceeded to seat a large party because they "were family of someone who works here". So made to feel like second class the moment we walked in. There was one server on a Sunday afternoon for the ENTIRE restaurant. So of course ours was conversing with her family in the back room instead of paying any attention to the res of her tables. Water took ten minutes, asked to sample a beer on special, tried it, liked it, but the server never came back so I could place an order. Thankfully the bartender came out from behind the bar to serve us, we had our coats in hand and were ready to walk out. Since i've been typing this review at our table, the server has walked by several times and said nothing, still have only water. Looking around the room there are many frustrated faces, the bartender should not have to serve the room so a waitress can hang out with her family. In short, we will NEVER be returning to Bill Bateman's crap Bistro. Get your shit together Bill.

Foods never hot it's just not good ; but if you're going for wings, I guess it's fine
(1)King R.
The food is mediocre ! It was nice to have our Christmas party here back in December 2013 . I wouldn't go back though .
(2)Alex F.
This place is a sports bar, so I would never expect top-quality food here, but the service during my most recent visit was pretty unbelievable -- and not in a good way. We were served quickly, but it's when the bill came that made this experience get only one star. My dad had a gift card for $100 and planned to use it for our beers and two racks of ribs. But when it came time to pay, the server informed him he couldn't use it (on account of a new computer system). Now don't get me wrong: I get it -- I've worked in restaurants, I know the frustrations of a technical problem that's out of your control. But I feel it is the restaurant's responsibility to give patrons a heads up (put up a few signs, have the server tell you at the start of the meal-- whatever!) This place is basically on Towson University's campus. I can't count the number of times in college I went to a restaurant on account of having a gift card alone and may not have had the money to spend on a meal without using it. That wasn't the case for my father and I at this meal, but the way it was handled by both the server and management was ridiculous. The server (who was, by the way, wearing a Steeler's jersey in a Baltimore sports bar which is all kinds of wrong) was hardly helpful, walking away as my dad asked to speak to a manager. Eventually the manager came over and gave the same story, with a tone bordering on rude. She promised to call the owner and about 20 minutes later, came back with a plan to call another location and run the card that way. So yes, EVENTUALLY, they came up with a solution but I doubt it is one they would've offered to college-age patrons. They also made it seem like SUCH an inconvenience that he ended up paying with a credit card anyhow. My issue is that they didn't warn customers in the first place and when I suggested they put up signs or tell customers, they brushed me off. I may be young, but my money is just as valuable as any other customer who walks into this place. Not sure how my dad will end up using his gift card but if I'm with him it certainly won't be at this location. PS the ribs weren't that good.

I never really have anything bad to say about Bill Bateman's.. I order carry out from the Towson location a few times a year and dine in maybe once or twice a year. The food, yes it can be overpriced, but my hub and I have never disliked anything. Today we decided to dine in rather than carry out because we had some time to kill. The bar was packed with Towson students. It was a Thursday around 5pm so maybe they had some drink specials going on for Thirsty Thursday; I'm not too sure though. The dining room part was pretty empty and that's where we sat. We ordered the jumbo crab pretzel to split and it was amazing as always. I then ordered the crab quesadilla which is my usual and my hunny got some giant double bacon burger. I was scared for his life as I watched him devour this greasy, bacony, cheesy beefy tower. But whatever makes him happy, as long as its in moderation :P My crab quesadilla was good, but I felt like they put way too many grilled onions and not enough jalapeños. I ended up picking most of the onions out. This is the first time this has happened so maybe the cook is new or maybe they just weren't paying attention. I don't know, I only ate two slices and the other two are sitting in the fridge. I'm sure it will become my midnight snack tonight. Our server was super nice and attentive. When we got out check, we asked for $2 in change and she had thought that we told her to keep $2!!! I felt so bad when the check holder came back filled with money!!! I mean jeeze, she must have thought that we were the biggest jerks ever. I'm sure she was mumbling bad things about us haha. I immediately grabbed the rest of the money and walked it over to her, I felt that bad and I didn't want her to think she didn't do a good job! After all that, she was still so nice and thankful. I'm just glad she got the tip she deserved one way or another :) If you want something decent, you really can't go wrong the crab pretzel, burgers, or wings. We spent a total $45 including tip for the both of us.. So yeah, for what others see as average bar food, it can be a little pricey. Other than that, check it out, the service is great and the food is great 90% of the time :P
(4)Matthew R.
The service is good and the food is even better. This is how a sports bat should be! Specials every weekday and 5$ meals after 10 and 2-7.
(5)Wufi D.
Seriously.... how can you mess up spinach artichoke dip? This place found a way. It was tasteless and watery. Came to watch the games but will find a new place from now on..... boring food!!!!!!
(1)John E.
The Happy Hour specials here on food during the week are awesome. The food is pretty good, at full menu price it is expensive, but definitely a great price at happy hour. They have a wide variety of foods that won't blow you away, but are better than most other chain bars. This location also has a projector and screen for sports games so that you can watch them in life size.
(4)Kevin J.
I have not been happy with the food here in the last couple visits. Bottom line is there is better places to go in Towson to grab a beer and bar food. The only thing I've been happy with at Bateman's is the wings. Ribs= small portion. burgers= hit or miss. Everytime our group goes there, everyone sais the same thing, "eh, the meal was just OK".
(2)Denise T.
I've been to Bill Bateman's before but not often. Every time I go, I remember why I don't go that often. The restaurant is outdated and needs some updating. We started with the Cream of Crab soup and were disappointed. It was difficult to get to the soup without Old Bay dumped all over it, but we did. If it weren't for the Old Bay, there would be no seasoning or sherry. My friend got the shrimp salad sandwich and it was the same as the soup. Please let the chef know that Old Bay is not the only seasoning for seafood. It actually needs to be seasoned as it is cooked, not just have a deluge poured on afterward. I got the house club sandwich. It, too, was bland beyond belief. I only ate half of it and didn't want to take the rest of it home as the bread with too much mayo and tasteless shredded lettuce would just make it worse. So sad that they have never bothered to update the food and menu in addition to the atmosphere.
(2)Sherry J.
Had drinks at the bar while I waited for RJ. The bartenders were very friendly, and they had a very heavy pour. So heavy that RJ's vodka and sprite tasted like straight vodka and so did my sweet tea vodka and lemonade, and they were dirt cheap. The wings smelled fanstastic, I would definitely like to try the menu.
(3)May M.
Bill Bateman's Happy Hour is definitely the best in Towson. A bunch of great options for $5, cheap drinks, etc. I remember many evenings when I spent less than $20 and walked out of there full and with a nice buzz. It's pretty good for lunch too. Just your typical modern American lunch cafe type of food - burgers, salads, wraps, chicken, etc. I've never been disappointed with anything here. My parents enjoyed coming to Bateman's every time they visited me at Towson. I also always loved the wings! It's definitely a college bar, so don't come here during Happy Hour if you don't want to be around a bunch of frat guys and sorority girls.
(4)Alonza S.
I brought my Dad here last night for dinner and I was pleasantly surprised. We went around 8PM on Thursday so that could have explained the wonderful experience we had. We were immediately seated and waited upon. My Dad ordered ribs and I ordered the boneless Hickory Chipotle wings. Our food was out within about 15 minutes and the server didn't bother us too much, which I liked. The ribs were very tender and the boneless wings were tasty. My Dad has been there multiple times and loved it; for my first time it impressed me also. Maybe the timing explained the good food and service, but it is a college bar so I would keep that in mind going there during the semester or during sports seasons.
(5)Ali V.
The owner and staff was extremely accommodating and nice when we put an event on here. Only recommendation would be to have more assistance behind the bar.
(4)Michelle H.
I actually enjoy a Bill Bateman's outing every so often. While their happy hour specials have drastically changed over the years (I miss the cheesy tater tots that used to be served during complimentary wing night), you can always count on the massive menu of deliciously bad for you bar food, cold beer and acceptable service. Except for that one time the host tried to make a funny with an elderly lady in front of us and ended up inadvertently insulting her. Note to hosts/hostesses: When you ask someone how large their party is, don't say "Only *insert number here*? That's all the friends you have?" Batemans' wings are decent - probably not the best in the area, but always consistently made. Come to think of it, everything I've ever had - from the French Dip to Fish n' Chips to the Cookie Monster - have all been decent. I also appreciate that their bartenders can make a good Orange Crush or Washington Apple shot. All in all, Bateman's holds its own compared to the other bars/restaurants along the York Road Corridor.
(3)Corey G.
Right next to townson university. I came on a Sunday afternoon on labor day weekend so it was really empty..service was great but the food was average...just like Buffalo wild wings
(3)Mark P.
This location is on campus right next to York Rd. They have good wings. I got the special, fish tacos last time, and they were good too. Fries are some of the best around as well. The menu is almost as big as a Double T Diner, almost too much to choose from. A lot of beer on tap and decorated head to toe in local sports gear.
(4)Taylor L.
For an on campus bar, it's not too shabby. I can't say I've ever had good service here though. The waitresses are college students who think they have better things to do than wait on you which is fine, but you probably shouldn't be waitressing then. I was there Sunday for the game and our waitress came to our table once. I ordered hot wings which were delicious but did she not think I was going to need a refill? It's hot wings. People expect to have a glass of soda refilled if they're gonna pay $2 for it. Other than our waitress, the food was great.
(3)Andrew M.
$3 Steak Night packs a line of cheap ass patrons eager to grab plastic forks and plates to work through the buffet of microwaved frozen veggies and baked potato bar until they climax with the server dishing out "steak" from a steam tray. He tongs a limp centimeter thick piece of gray meat onto your plate but not before he asks you if you want it dipped in buffalo sauce to disguise the taste of the mystery meat. Watching the kids plow through Batemans all you can eat wing night is a close repulsive second. You can hear the wind whistling through the ears of the TSU servers and girls manning the hostess stand. The volume is never on the million tiny TV's, and the voluminous menu of grease keeps the cardiologist in business. One star because of the great location and they will hook your children up with baloons and crayons. It would have been more for the kid friendly aspect, but they took out the pool tables, air hockey, golden tee, and video games to make way for more restaurant tables. Everybody I know has sworn off Batemens, and their wings aren't remotely close to Kislings.
(1)Tricia P.
This is my bill Batemans. OK, here's how I feel - I end up at the Batemans very often mostly because it is walking distance from my house, I don't think I would go out of my way to go. I am usually here to watch Sunday football (go ravens!) I really like the setup of this Batemans - sooo many TVs for football viewing. Be sure to show up early before a game because the bar area does fill up quick. Batemans menu is huge and has many selections. My personal favorites are the crab pretzel, crab fries and fish tacos - yum! Most of the time my food is good. But there have been a couple times my food has come out cold or over cooked. Pros: cheap food, lots of TVs, cheap beer, huge menu Cons: inconsistent quality
(3)Elaine T.
Are you a college kid looking for semi-decent & affordable grub, beer & a "chill vibe"? Meet Bill Bateman's. On the funny side, watching a neo-vegetarian bitch about nothing "fresh" or "thoughfully planned" on this campus menu is pretty entertaining. Bill Bateman's -- carry on!
(2)Paul S.
Don't really like going here. The food is sub par at best and overpriced. They don't know how to prepare a steak, many nights are very loud and busy to the point you get ignored. Daytime staff is very rude. I almost got kicked out because i was drinking a soda but not ordering food. Even when I did on another occasion the same waitress had an attitude problem, like I was making her life difficult by her getting me my food and drink.
(2)Annie H.
Advertised "Baltimore's Best Wings" but if this is really Baltimore's best wings then Baltimore needs to step up their wing game. Their buffalo sauce was way too vinegary.. The Original and the Buffalo Garlic were both vinegary but the Buffalo Garlic Wings were extra acidic.. we also ordered the Teriyaki which was a little salty (the soy sauce was strong!) But I gotta give it to them.. the size of their wings are pretty decent. Much much bigger than Buffalo Wing Factory's wings. BUTTT there was one thing that bothered me the most.. everything (except the sweet potato fries) came out almost COLD!! Big *thumbs down* I like to eat my food when it's still steaming hot. Lucky for us we also happen to come here on a Monday. 49 cent wings or $9.49 all you can eat wings! You have to order a minimum of 10 wings per flavor. WARNING they charge 75 cents for 9 celery sticks (I counted!!) and another 75 cents for every ranch or blue cheese you order.. UMMM when did wing places start charging for celery and dipping sauce?? :( Make sure you order the sweet potato fries!!!!! Their sweet potato fries earned them their 3rd star.. so you must try them. So crispy on the outside and soft inside.. it also compliments the wings very well. Parking in the front is very limited (and annoying when you get trapped in) but they have additional parking on the side. Best if you come with friends for a casual meal and maybe better if you order something other than wings!
(3)Cary B.
We came for the Sunday evening half-price burger special but were told, "Sorry you're 20 minutes too early." They didn't offer to bend the rules, so I ordered the "Monster Meatball Sandwich". Frankly, it was 85 percent roll and 15 percent meatball. The fries were average at best, And pretty salty. A 2-star experience overall.
(2)Lauren S.
This place is on a college campus and people are surprised that the food is sub par? The wings are good, the beer is cold, and the college kids make great entertainment.
(3)Kevin Y.
this place seems to be very disorganized. they have 2 hostesses and the house is not full, yet they can't manage to have a greeter to be in the front. the food was okay. i wasn't impressed. the crab pretzel is good, like everyone else said, but it's really not that hard to make. i will not come back. if you want to drink and eat try the crab place w. penn ave.
(2)Pascal P.
Bateman's is a solid choice if you're looking for beer and bar food, but there were some issues with service the last time I went there that made me give it only three stars. The waiter seemed friendly and competent enough, but it took him a long time to take our order and a lot of the food came out semi-cold. It had been years since the previous time I went here and it's possible that the service issues were a fluke.
(3)Bi N.
This restaurant is near my sister's place and we went to try it out before heading to Bengie's. We got there early and were seated quickly but it took forever to get our food. I guess they had to kill the cow to make the burgers. My sisters' food was decent but I got a taco salad and it wasn't great. There was hardly any lettuce and the chili was so hot that it made it soggy. My sister's ultimate burger was good though and so was the steak my other sister got. They seem to have good weekly specials and I would try again but with something else....like the crab pretzel.
(3)Kate D.
Food is really good especially the crabby fries and wings! Disappointed with the new menu however because they increased prices and significantly decreased the portion size :( but food is still good.
(3)Caesar G.
Fun college bar located steps from Towson University. Their crab fries are really tasty. I had the Philly Cheesesteak, which was good but not the best I've ever had. They have a fantastic selection of craft beers on tap. My only complaint is we went on a Saturday night and it was full of very loud college kids. But I cut them some slack, wishing I was still in college!
(3)Taco Eate R.
Let me just say, Bill Batemans is not what it used to be. It's obvious to the tastebuds that they have been using ingredients of lesser quality over the course of several years. Bill, if you're reading this; stop pinching pennies, and bring us the quality of Bill Batemans from 10 years ago. The bar on the other hand is beautiful, it's the only redeeming quality of the place. It has a great selection of draft beer, and fully loaded with every liquor you would want. Flat Screen TVs with the NFL ticket. An absolutely great place to watch sports. The wings are good, but thats about it for the food.
(2)Jen T.
One of my BFFL's lives in the Towson area, and introduced me to crab pretzel in general (the best being at Hightopps). After a few visits, my constant craving for crab pretzel got a little out of hand and she wasn't as eager to eat them 24/7, and we were crab pretzel-less. However, to satisfy my craving, I would swing by and pick up crab pretzel to go! I've never actually eaten here or ordered anything else, just take out crab pretzel. Crab dip - not as crabby as I'd like, a little too creamy. Pretzel - I don't think it was cooked all the way through. Not sure why I'd say three stars, maybe because I want to like it so much? The first crab pretzel was a lot better though, pretzel cooked through, not as creamy, maybe it was a good day at Bill Bateman's. Regardless, I'd still go again to get my crab pretzel fix on!
(3)Brandon L.
Love Bateman's. I remember being a kid and my mom worked at the original on Harford Road. Wings and beer, can't go wrong.

Bateman's earns an extra star just for having such a great atmoshphere. I usually walk into Bateman's with high hopes and leave feeling unsatisfied. This is mainly due to the food. No matter what I try ordering, there is always some sort of stupid gaffe that upsets me and ends up disappointing me. For example, their fish and chips comes with actual potato chips (think Lay's, Pringles, et al) rather than English chips (french fries). Now normally that wouldn't be such a big deal, but Bateman's chips kind of suck. On the plus side, the menu is quite extensive and the bar is well stocked. One item that might be worth ordering for the novelty factor is the massive hamburger that doesn't really taste too good but gives you bragging rights if you can finish the whole damn thing. Service is friendly but the prices tend to run a bit high for what you get. The place gets packed with college students a lot of nights so be aware of that when making dinner plans.

Pretty average bar food. Lots of menu options. Total sports bar atmosphere. The beer selection is pretty mediocre (I'm a beer snob, so I only found one beer I'd drink). The food was pretty good. We started with the crab pretzel. Salty, crabby, Old Bay-y, and a soft pretzel. Yum. I ordered the buffalo chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries. The buffalo chicken sandwich was good. The buffalo sauce was yummy, not too vinegar-y and spicy. The sweet potato fries, however, were a HUGE disappointment. I ordered them because someone else who reviewed this place said they were great. She's wrong. They taste like dessert. Way too sweet for a fry. We were there pretty late in the night. And stayed for a bit. I think we ended up being the last people in the place. I'm sure our server wanted to go home; and he didn't hide that fact at all. He wasn't very attentive and seemed moody with us. It's a decent place for sports bar grub. If I lived near Towson, I'd probably go there to watch a football game every once in awhile.

I have a standard for bar food and this place meets it. No fuss, no muss. Good and cheap. That's not damning them with faint praise. Never had a bad meal here. Service is fast and the staff are competent, cheery and welcoming. It's a Baltimore institution... without the tolerance for mediocrity.
