Food(7.5/10)=I spent the first nine years of my life in this area (Timonium) of Baltimore, MD and my family made regular trips to Gibby's when we still lived here. I remember it was a great place to get Blue Crabs, Maryland Lump Crab Cakes, and Soft-shell Crab Sandwiches. 16 years after my family and I moved away, I finally made my return to Gibby's on a recent visit to Baltimore. Seeking a nostalgic experience, I ordered the following: 1)Soft-shell Crab Sandwich=I received two small lightly fried soft-shell crabs in my sandwich for $8.99. I requested the kaiser roll, lettuce, and tomato. I forgot to ask for mayonnaise like how I used to have it =(. I still really enjoyed the sandwich. However, if I was living in Baltimore again, I don't think I would come to Gibby's regularly to order this sandwich. Either the quality has changed at Gibby's, or the change of my taste buds/standards during the past 16 years has made this sandwich just OK for me. 2)Jumbo Lump Crab Cake Platter=If you order a platter at Gibby's, you get to choose one side to come with it. I sort of remember that it used to be 2 sides...oh well, that was years ago. Anyways, I asked for a broiled (versus fried) lump crab cake and it was great! Lots of lump crab meat. I asked for fries as my side, and they were really good. Nice and crunch, and seasoned very well. This platter cost $11.99 for a single crab cake platter. If you want two crab cakes, the platter costs $21.99. ***check out my uploaded pics of the dishes*** Service(7.0/10)=Service was pretty standard. The 2 girls that were working behind the counter looked like they were still in high school (they still had braces). Ambiance(7.0/10)=It's really just a fish market, and not a restaurant. There really isn't a place for you to sit and comfortably eat your food. All I saw at Gibby's were two white chairs, and they are probably there for customers who are waiting for their orders. The seafood is really fresh, as Gibby's receives daily shipments. All the seafood is nicely displayed. A variety of steamed crabs (by sex and weight) are displayed in boxes on top of the display fridges. Overall opinion=Although I didn't get that nostalgic feeling I was hoping for during my recent visit to Gibby's, I still enjoyed coming back here again. It's amazing that they are still here after 16 years. I guess that's proof that they are a great and reliable business for great seafood. Judging this place in terms of it being a restaurant, I'm only giving Gibby's three Yelp stars. The reason for three Yelp stars is because I've only tried two items off their menu. If I ever come back again, I'll sample other items. If they're good, then maybe I'll bump Gibby's to four Yelp stars.

Their crabs are so so good and meaty. Just make sure you ask for the female ones since they are meatier than the male ones. My sister ordered them to go. And I love the spices that go with it.

No one in the area has better crabs, period! I have tried them all and they just do them right. We just had 2 dozen jumbos and they were so big they needed 2 bags for them. Granted they were not cheap but 6 of us ate them and we were stuffed and smiling by the time we were done. I have been ordering from them for many years and they have never let me down.

Fantastic steamed crabs! Call in the morning to reserve (they come out of the steamer on the hour, so you can only pick up at 12:00 or 1:00 not 12:30, for example). We got two dozen large crabs, and they were big, heavy and juicy. Price was reasonable at $56 per dozen. Fast, friendly service. We'll be returning again soon to try their crab cakes and oysters!

Steamed shrimp are listed on their menu as the house specialty, but I highly suggest that you stick with the crabs. The shrimp aren't really all that fresh and aren't must different when steamed than they are when boiled. It also doesn't work as well with Old Bay. The broiled seafood platter (tilapia filet, 2 fat scallops, 1 crab cake) was also not worth it. Only the scallop was made well. The crab cake, although packed with crab meat, wasn't very well flavored otherwise. The fries are good though.

I go often to buy fresh fish that I cook at home. I can't really speak to the pricing but it seems in line with other specialty markets. The freshness and quality is always great and the staff is always helpful with recommendations, recipes or just de-skinning a fish if needed. No disappointments other than the tight parking lot.

This location used to offer a restaurant, which went out of business. Now they are a carry out restaurant, so my Chase Sapphire credit card gives me reward points. They offer Maryland Crab, in the jumbo lump variety that I prefer. I love picking crabs, but my husband is from Pittsburgh, PA so he loves the crab cakes. I love the sweet taste of authentic Maryland crab meat. They also offer other seafood offerings, which I enjoy, such as fresh salt water scallops. I would love to buy crabs, I will wait until after labor day when the prices go down and the water is cold, and the crabs are fatty.

I have been to Gibby's several times. Typically it is to pick up lump crab meat or fresh fish. I have also ordered a sandwich or two as well. My most recent experience is worth sharing! THE GOOD... -easy to park (small lot, but enough parking) -prices are pretty fair -lots of varieties of fish and shellfish -accepts credit/debit cards THE BAD... -found two pieces of Wild Alaskan Salmon infested with parasites/worms...it was absolutely disgusting that I completely lost my appetite for salmon and fish. I did reach out to Gibby's and they apologized for what happened. At first the manager was in denial, but I had video. I was refunded my money back. I know parasites exist in the oceans, but to sell this to a customer and not thoroughly check the fish? Someone seriously dropped the ball! -most if not all of the staff working the counter has little to no customer service skills...a basic "hello" would suffice sometimes -credit cart charge (I forget the exact % or amount), but for what people can spend there there shouldn't be any fee/penalty to the customer Overall my final opinion on Gibby's is not positive. Considering all of my visits there, between the worms in the salmon and the lack of customer service I can go elsewhere for crab meat.

I made a solo run to Gibby's for crabs. The Crabs were good and hot but pretty light. I know that has nothing to do with the establishment but the crabs in the bay. The service was quick and efficient. And for crab shack that's the best you can ask for. They give free butcher paper which is rare for most crab shacks around Baltimore. I'm new to Gibby's so I haven't tried their other food offerings yet but now that I know it's here near my favorite grocery store, I will be back this summer.

Gibby's is a favorite. Never disappointed with the crabs. The carry out seafood is the best... always a treat to stop to the way home for a crab cake...take them home and broil... best crab cake around hands down. I would rate 5 stars except for the surcharge on credit cards... c'mon now Gibby's... alienating charge customers? It's not like crabs are cheap.... suck up the credit card surcharge like every other business.... it is the cost of doing business, just like having to have a license or paying your employee's.

My cousin Brian runs this awesome little place and they sell the BEST crab cakes I've ever had!!! Good thing for Gibby's that I live in the west coast, otherwise there would be no crab cakes left for you to try!! Go check them out and give Brian a big hug from his cousin in CA!!

Where do you get off charging customers extra when not using Cash. Will go elsewhere next time. Where business is happy to have customers! This world evolves around credit! Give me a break!

OMG If only I lived closer to this place. We were in Timonium for a meeting. Stopped here and ordered a double crabcake platter. While it was being prepared, they enticed us with samples of so many other delicious things. Shrimp salad, the dressing was not overwhelming and the shrimp was plump, fresh, and not overcooked. The crab salad had loads of crab and another dressing that complemented it. The seaweed salad was a lovely bright green, with a nice crunch and a light dressing. We opted to get crab stuffed baked potatoes with cheese. Wow were these delicious. We accompanied the crab cakes -- substantial amounts of crab in these -- with a Greek salad. Fresh lettuce, tangy feta cheese, and the usual with a home made dressing. The same meeting happens annually, so I look forward to trying some of the homemade soups and bringing an ice chest to take home some fresh seafood. Wonderful selection of higher end desserts (napoleans, cheesecake etc)

Good but very expensive. Picked up 1/2 doz jumbos ($52), 1/2 doz large ($45), qt of crab soup ($17.99), cole slaw, pasta salad and 6 deviled eggs. Totaled $125.79. Whew! Helpful sales people a plus!

Simply the best !. We ordered jumbo's and 4 crab cakes to be shipped to is in Indianapolis. They were packed and shipped on Thursday and arrived Friday afternoon. The Crabs were steamed to perfection and seasoned perfectly. The Jumbo's were truly jumbo. They were the best crabs I have ever had. The crab cakes were ready to broil - and not a hint of shell in any of them. A friend who helped us enjoy the crabs commented that the crab cakes were the best he had ever had. The order was so good, I just called them to pack some more up to ship out on Thursday. We used to live in Baltimore - it was like getting a care package from home. Gibby's - fantastic, thanks

We ordered a bushel of crabs for this weekend. It cost $13 extra to pack them for travel which was ok. But when we arrived to pick them up there was a notice on the counter saying if using credit or debit cards to make a purchase there will be a 2.8% surcharge. To use the ATM that was in the store it was a $3 surcharge. It would have been nice to have been told this when we called to make the order considering we are spending clear over $300 for our order. Ridiculous!

I've been coming to Gibby's for years and the last 2 years has been met with disappointment. Let me explain: First and foremost, the food is descent. Steamed crabs are good and typically heavy and fresh. Prices are competitive overall so no complaints there. What I have noticed is the total lack of customer service and this is unfortunate. the appearance is that they have gotten such a following that the owner and minions up in front have gotten a snooty attitude. I have noticed that they will stop to talk to people who appear to be regulars. But here's my gripe: I've ordered multiple orders of clam strips for my kids. There are times I've ordered one order of clam strips. The staff must take customers for a fool if they think they can simply take one order and split it into two. I've also ordered the "double" for the oyster sandwiches. The staff explained its a double order of oyster in the sandwich and the price is almost double. I've ordered single orders too and yes, the double was simply a single. And when you try to bring this to the attention of the staff, they look at you like you're crazy. This is simply ripping customers off as they see fit. They may not know me by name, but they have no issues collecting payment. So, my payment will simply go to Captain Treys a few miles down the road. Same snooty attitude, but at least (thus far) they haven't shown signs of ripping you off. Sad considering the food is pretty good. I would only recommend the steamed crabs. If you decide to order platters, don't order a double because surely you WILL NOT receive double.

I had to lower from 2 stars to 1 star because the jumbo crab cake platter in the picture isn't what we received. We ordered six buffalo wings, two jumbo crabcake platters with potato salad and cole slaw sides. When I called (2 hours in advance) the lady told me that they had just run out of potato salad and that I would have to come a little later to get the order. When I arrived they put the bag together, charged me and I left. Upon getting home I opened the bag and saw two small flimsy clear plastic containers each containing a crab cake and a few crackers and our buffalo wings. No sides... I must say after paying nearly 35 dollars for this I was very shocked at this apparent rip-off. I drove back to restaurant and they informed me that they ran out of potato salad and that I had to order something else. I selected side caesar salad. I took the slaw and salad home. Taste: 2/5 Buffalo wings- I am not even sure they had sauce as no flavor (50c ea) 4/5 Crab cakes- very delicious but SMALL (KFC biscuit size) for 11 dollar 5/5 Tartar sauce- excellent with the crab cake 5/5 Cole slaw- not much sauce as I like it but it was excellent and delicious 1/5 Caesar salad- Large salad but they did not put ANY dressing on it or in the bag I will never go here again as there is a blatant disregard to quality control and customer satisfaction. I wouldn't even expect this poor level of service at fast food chains like Popeye's or Long John Silvers. Did they spit in our food, was the restaurant full of roaches, or were they flat out racist? I have no idea, but the service and quality of the experience did not lead me to think this was a class establishment.

Never tried it for carry-out, though it looks promising. Always treated it for what it really is-- an astoundingly fresh, affordable, and delicious seafood market!! Jumbo shrimp as big as my hand (and I got big hands!) for 16.99 a pound; shell-free,sweet, jumbo-lump crab meat around 26 bucks a pound; all sorts of tasty fish; nice wine store (Swirl) right next door-- if my kid's over at a buddy's for a sleepover, we pick up a bottle of good wine, some tasty shrimp or crabs, and have us a gourmet seafood adult night!! Always heard good things about their crabs, too-- but I'm more of a crab cake guy-- I'm from PA, not MD, and that' s my excuse!! Good stuff here!

Crab cakes - fresh and wonderfully prepared. Broccoli salad - good but I've had better. Cole slaw - nothing special.

Gibby's is a nice little seafood merchant. They carry pretty much a little bit of everything, from the giant crabb legs to the deviled eggs. This little place is not to be underestimated. They food is extremely savory. They make everything in house, including their soups and deviled eggs. I usually order steamed crabs to go. They even provide you with the thick heavy duty paper for free. Their prices are extremely competitive and they are located right next to a wine store....what more convenient than that?

Ordered crabs at 3PM for 5PM. This was after wanting them for 4:30, but being told they could only be picked up on the hour. Got there at 5:05 and paid, 530 rolls around, no crabs. Got money and left to go elsewhere. We needed them early as the kids needed getting from grandma's, so we went elsewhere to get our crabs. Other spot had them ready in less than 30 minutes.

Ordered lump crab cake w fries and enjoyed! Also bought a pound of MD crab meat to take home....made great crab cakes! And and small order of crab salad that I loved, not cheap but tasty. I'm very picky about crab cakes and I would eat here again. Crab cake was not huge but tasted good.
