Tiki opening is something you don't miss as a SOMD resident however the rest of the summer it's a last resort. The drinks have gone up every season and the alcohol content has gone down. It also is a hit or miss with the crowd, half are 21 year olds drinking for the first time or Old people on vacation just sitting and drinking.

Came here for a few drinks on a Friday night. We grabbed a couple of oversized beach chairs to hang out, drink, and people watch. Cute place! The bartenders are not super friendly but were quick to grab me some beers. Some of the crowd seemed as though they should definitely not be served any more drinks! Overall a decently fun night.

These drinks are strong! Or maybe any drink is on an empty stomach. Regardless, I liked this place. It is had a nice view of the harbor and relaxed vibe. It draws a mixed crowd who flock for their mixed drinks. Their Orange Crush was one of the better one I have had and based on the amount of them I saw floating around others seem to agree. They are cash only so come prepared.

The staff here is awful. I was violently grabbed by a bouncer (and have fingerprint bruises to prove it) for attempting to use the ladies room at closing time after the manager had already given me permission. When I tried to discuss this unprofessional behavior with the manager, he called one of his goons out of the back room to get in my boyfriends face and try to start a fight. Five bouncers chased me and my boyfriend up the street. We did absolutely nothing wrong to provoke this attack. We called the police and the officer who responded said that this was the second call of that nature that evening alone. I will never ever again return to such a horrifically unprofessional and improper establishment. This is a disgraceful place in such a pleasant community.

I want to try all of their drinks & not get dragged out by the police...

What a great little outdoor bar! I LOVE this place. Yes, it's outdoor---so there's dirt all over the place, and yes, there is a crowd that enjoys their cocktails. However, the Orange Crush tastes like 'tang on steroids' or a yummy creamsicle (fresh squeezed OJ!) and prices aren't outrageous ($8 for an orange crush, ~$4-5 for a beer). However, keep in mind there is no indoor seating and it is cash only.
(5)Lorrie L.
Cool place to sit and have a drink with your feet in the sand or sit in the patio.

LOVE IT!! The Tiki Bar is popular for their Mai Tai's. Believe me, they are strong! As with all of their drinks. After two or three they start to catch up to you. The BBQ place next door is awesome. You can always find some really cool things at their gift shop. Staff is pretty cool.

Docked up for the night at St. Solomon's marina and walked over to Tiki Bar for a few drinks. Very cool spot and fun atmosphere! Relaxed and casual! I will say that I did not eat and only drank but for a bar they get my 5. Bar tender's were very friendly! KEEP IN MIND CASH ONLY AT BAR. THEY HAVE AN ATM.
(5)Erin R.
This place is only as good as its atmosphere on a given day. The venue is interesting, with ample spots to chill with your TEN DOLLAR DRINK. Not to mention the abysmal selection - you have to want a sweet mixed drink or a miller lite and I'm pretty sure that's all they have.
(2)Jody W.
Booooo... Heartburn in a glass - my bad, heartburn in a fake solo cup... Why is this place such a big deal every year?
(2)Tricia W.
Cash only so don't plan on using plastic. Good Orange crushes and popcorn. Fun to read the writing on the wall. Screw the cracker, Polly wants a cocktail. Good place to stop and swap stories over an Orange or Grapefruit Crush!

This is the spot on a Friday night, for some reason I felt like I was back at the florida keys, if your down at the Solomon Islands then this is a must see.
(4)Paul T.
Hey, it is what it is. A bar in the middle of a parking lot.....I guess. I've been to better. It was fun. So I may go back.

I have been coming to the Tiki Bar opening in mid April for the last few years. I always have a great time. This is an open air covered bar with some strong drinks. I always enjoy their Orange Crush and the Kokomo. The people come to party and drink during the opening, so there is always a huge crowd that weekend. It is a large bar with plenty of stools and is only open for the warm months of the year. Nice place to people watch and look at the boats on the water.

Go TIKI ! People always concentrate on TIKI BAR OPENING weekend as the craziest party with the wild times in southern MD. The rest of the year Tiki Bar is an important locally supported spot for everyone to mingle. From the local fisherman who comes in after a tough day In the sun... to the visiting group of city folks down from DC the tiki bar offers a welcoming oasis to all patrons. The Orange Crushes are the best anywhere around. For those that don't know the deal the locals menu of popular mixed drinks is sketched on the ceiling with iridescent glow paint. Order from there and ya will never be dissatisfied. Add to that a great BBQ from the "Grill sergeant" next door to make your visit complete. -- Captain Brian Mayer ( Marauder Charters )

As you're driving up to Tiki you can see from the street that it is an outdoor casual bar. It's an old converted motel with a big outdoor seating area and aside from the Main bar at the front of the place there are 3 more bars in the back. Closed during the winter months Tiki opens up the 3rd weekend in April (if it doesn't have to compete with Easter) otherwise it opens the weekend after that - and it's a party. Solomons Island needs to make the Monday after the Tiki Opening a public holiday so that people can recover from a very festive weekend. Be prepared to see a bunch of activity during opening - with live music, local food vendors and plenty of mai-tais. Each year Tiki imports a whole lot of sand and palm trees to give you an island vibe. You can sit outside with your drinks and soak up the sun whilst listening to some tunes. Or alternatively you can go to the Cigar shop and find an array of cigars from all over the world in their humidor. There is no food served at Tiki - it's strictly a drinking spot. Although they serve delicious pop corn till 8pm. The Music is sub-par if there aren't live performances, with a lot of Country music and rock. I'd like to hear some reggae tunes and Hawaiian music if you asked me - with some new music from the hits today. The music is a real mood killer if you're not into redneck tracks being pushed on repeat. The place is adorned with quotes about booze and the toilets are nothing special - reminding me of a "dunny" with a swinging, wicketty wooden door between stalls (but it is an outdoor bar made just for drinking) It's a fabulous place to sit out at on a gorgeously warm and sunny day - feels like you're not in Southern Maryland. The Drinks are strong and the staff are super friendly and great at describing what they have available. There is no menu and they're cash only - but they do have an ATM on premises (but it charges you $3) The drinks are on the expensive side $7.50 for their signature cocktails and $8 for an orange crush, but super delicious. Overall, a cute little spot that has made a big name for itself in Southern Maryland.

No drink selection to speak of. Mixed drinks are nothing other than a bucket of ice and flavoring. Everyhting is sticky or crusted with something. Don't touch the ATM if you value hygiene. Bartenders look like somthing from a zombie movie. And the bouncers get off on harassing customers. Not a friendly relaxing environment.

Sh*thole. If I had wanted to watch a bunch of inbred locals stand around and puke due to over-serving of booze, I could have saved $100 and gone to any other dive bar in SOMD. The Tiki bar survives on history alone. Once upon a time this place must have been awesome, but today it is a sand pit with drunks peeing and puking all over the place. That is when the cops aren't breaking up a fight, or a drug deal. My goodness, Salomon's island is lame.

Went to the tiki bar for the first time last night. Had a great time. Really fun atmosphere and met some great people. Only reason it's not a 5 star is because I heard everyone rave about their Mai Tais so I obviously had to try it. Unfortunately it was horrible. It was just a premade drink that was poured from a container. The rest of the drinks were fine, but I wouldn't waste the money or time on the Mai Tai. Will definitely go back! Ps make sure you bring cash. It's a cash only bar.
(4)Steve L.
So this is my first time at this establishment and had no idea that this is cash only bar and they do not accept Vertical ID's, as a result of this condition, we had been refused service because my son had a vertical ID but he's over 21. As I dug further into the state law governing the drinking age, I also found out that this is a rule but not a law. I'm still trying to figure that gem of a bit of information out. This state makes no sense to me, the other day I saw teens setting at the bar in a chain restaurant and no one said a word about, ever the bartender made no argument about teens setting at the bar but to be refused service and then being told we would have to leave at the Tiki bar said one thing that was very clear about this place, there employee are not trusted to make an educated decision. This was my first and last time here. This place is no big deal and there are plenty of other places to go. Go elsewhere and have a good time.

I feel like giving a 1 star is generous as it would only be appropriate to give this place of business ZERO stars (YELP doesn't allow zero stars). Why? My friend was refused service. The reason why he was refused service had nothing to do with him being under age. In fact, it is his 23rd birthday week. He was not dressed inappropriately, he was not intoxicated (he had not had any alcohol), he was not disorderly, he did nothing wrong. The reason why he was refused service was because his VALID California state ID was oriented vertically instead of horizontally. His ID was not expired and it clearly stated his date of birth and if you can do simple mathematics you can easily determine that he turns 23 in 4 days. I cannot believe such a place even can call themselves a "business". Do not go here, they discriminate against people that have the wrong shape of valid government ID.
(1)Celia W.
I've never really understood the draw of this place. It's always super crowded and impossible to get a drink.
(2)David E.
This is just what you would expect it to be with the name like the Tiki Bar. The drinks are great, I still think the Orange Crush is my favorite and have been trying to make it at home (almost have it down). I got caught in a storm there my last day and that made it even more memorable. Lightning, thunder, wind and rain, did not close the place or scare the people away, even being an open air bar.
(4)David K.
After hearing about the lore related to the opening of the Tiki Bar for years from my red Southern Maryland pals, I was expecting a veritable oasis of alcohol imbibing in a tropical atmosphere. Instead we were met with a sad display of Waldorf street toughs and local fisherman. Beers cost $5 for bottles of Miller Lite, cocktails were significantly more. Our female companions commented about the watered down mai tais. Coming straight from a wedding and still wearing suits, we were needlessly heckled for our required attire. I can see how this might be great for the opening when it is packed, but for your average night in Solomon's, look elsewhere for a good time.
(2)Samantha C.
I have never understood why people love this place. It's always dirty and sticky, people are obnoxiously loud and drunk, drinks are horrible and horribly expensive, and yet people seem to talk about it like it's the greatest thing ever. They must never have been outside the county.

My husband and I have been to your Tiki Bar several times and have really enjoyed ourselves. However today we had a very humiliating experience. We ride a Harley Davidson and enjoy stopping by to visit. One of your security guards asks me to take off my bandana. I'm not a person to cause issues so I said okay and took it off. I was very humiliated and embarrassed. What I should have done is ask for a manager. You should NEVER treat a customer who is just sitting back and enjoying quietly have been so humiliated as such. I will never come to the bar again and will share my humiliating experience with anyone I can. To also be honest it was a Harley Davidson bandana. My husband was wearing a Harley Davudson ball cap. Why was I singled outlet???? Why were others who arrived on motorcycles who had bandanas not asked to take theirs off???? It's not like I was in a biker gang. And how would the security have known maybe I was a cancer patient and wore it for medical reasons??? You felt humiliated and like trash which I'm not!!! I hope no woman will ever be treated the way I did there. By the way, this happened about 2.5 hours after we were there!!!!! A very unhappy and humiliated customer.

Lived right next to Tiki Bar for 3 years. The opening is the Mardi Gras of SoMD. Bring cash, but there's a ATM with a big surcharge if you run out. Avoid all the colored drinks, but the orange crush, which is great. The beers are in a can & overpriced. Bikers hang here, but so does everybody. Somewhere to check out at least once. Largest humidor in SoMD too!

The Tiki Bar is a Southern Maryland staple. It's opening is something we set our calendars/clocks/watches to. Yep...the third weekend in April usually marks the chaos on Solomons Island that IS the Southern Maryland Mardi-Gras...the opening of the Tiki Bar. Like most locals (work in DC, live in SoMD), I avoid opening weekend like the plague...though some strange part of me always wants to go. It's best left to those who have yet to experience that little bit of madness on the Point. Bring your beads...you'll get to distribute them, I promise. But any other weekend is a good time to Tiki. Early evenings are the best time to sit around with a more local crowd, to people and boatwatch, as the sun sets. Signature drinks include the famous MaiTai and Kokomo, both mixed in plastic gallon jugs, both guaranteed to drain your wallet at $7 a pop. But for some reason, you won't mind. It's all part of the Tiki experience. Bring your id and a good attitude. The bouncers at the Tiki Bar don't play around. If you're a punk or a total sloppy drunk, you're out. No questions asked. New ownership brought new changes to the Tiki Bar. The thatched roof and facade has been updated, and a small beach, tobacco shop (hey this IS tobacco country!), and a gift shop have been added. The old "No-Tell Motel" attached to the back has received a facelift as well. There's also Grill Sgt. BBQ set up next door...in case you get hungry. And there's always the ever present bowls of popcorn on the bar, if you're brave. All in all, the Tiki Bar and the surroundings of little Solomon's Island are a rewarding experience to anyone willing to make the drive out to the far reaches of Calvert County. It's seasonal as well, so if you drive out in November, you're going to have to wait until April for your next MaiTai fix.

It's a bar! It's an inn! It's a specialty shop! It's Tiki Bar! If you've been to Key West, The Tiki Bar will remind you a little bit of it. Everything is in a thatched hut. The bar is one big hut. You can drink under the hut. Or hang outside. Most people seem to prefer this. Or you can go in the backyard and just relax in the sand. Behind the bar are inn rooms. Although, no one doesn't seem to be staying there. Across the street is a t-shirt store and a tobacco store. I noticed after I got my drink that everyone was drinking beer. Well, after I had a sip of my drink, I found out why. Whooo! They make their drinks too strong. Long Island Tea shouldn't make me pucker my lips in distaste. Of course, what's the Tiki Bar without a Tiki statue here and there? Cute place to have a beer or two with friends.

Tiki Bar is so much fun! It is a wild place, with seriously dangerously strong drinks. Everytime I have been I order grapefruit crush (best drink ever) and wind up getting sloppy drunk! It is actually more fun in the daytime, they have a band early on weekends (5 or so) and that is the best time to go.
(5)Joel R.
A fun place to get a drink, but the drink selection could use some work. As a fan of most things tiki, I really wanted to love this place. Alas, there were some things I liked a lot, but a lot that missed the mark. Their Mai Tai is a huge disappointment. If you're gonna have a house recipe, take the time to make it good. I like that the grounds were sprawling along what seems to be a defunct motel. It seems with some gutsy proprietorship you could transform this place into a clever, fun, mayhaps even chic bar/restaurant/motel. It seems like it has such potential, but doesn't lift itself above grungy dive bar status.

The Tiki Bar is a Solomons Island institution, and a fun place to visit. If you want a wild time, come for the opening day or on a Friday or Saturday night. If you are like me (older) you may enjoy coming earlier in the evening or on a week night where you can enjoy the pretty view of the harbor on a warm summer's night. I love their cocomais, and yes, their drinks are strong, so use caution. There are many special events at the Tiki Bar throughout the warm months, which is the only time it is open as the bar has no walls. I recommend the Doggone Tiki Bar Day held in October, which benefits local animal rescue groups, where you can watch a dog costume party, adopt a new pet, and have a drink with fido.

Of course I had to come here being from Hawaii and loving all things tiki! The place is small, has a bunch of table around the bar area and near the sidewalk. They close during the winter months, mostly because business is much slower and it gets pretty cold in this area. The bar really is nothing special. Just your average tiki bar. But, it is nice to see something tiki is this part of the country. This place is pretty popular. Mostly a bunch of locals and some tourists. Solomons is not very big. More-less a sleepy sailing town. It is nice but I find Kailua nicer and the water is blue! The prices here are reasonable. $4 for a beer...probably much cheaper for the Budweiser. Not sure how much their mai tai's were, it was pre-made and I stuck to my Yuengling and free popcorn!
