Very average. Was seated in the second floor patio which was lovely except for the party of 15 teenagers that were sat at the next table. Beer was cold. Tried each of their 3 'Crush' signature cocktails. They were ok but too much sugar and would have preferred all fresh ingredients. Crab dip and hushpuppy appetizers were delicious. Main entrees were all just ok. Nothing special. Will be trying the other restaurants in the area to find something better.

We had a horrible experience. We didn't even order food because the waitress had an attitude problem and the restaurant had many out of stock items. The waitress lied and said soft shell crabs are out of season. We aren't exactly tourists and therefore know this to be untrue. A simple, "Sorry, we are out," goes a long way towards not infuriating your customers. Additionally, every request we made was answered with a quite rude "no." I highly recommend avoiding this venue. I think their desirable location has caused management to lax on their hiring practices. I rarely feel so strongly offended that I would leave such negative (and public) feedback. However, this visit was atrocious because of a waitress with an attitude problem and management's very poor stock practices.

I'm from St. Marys originally but live in VA now. We went for mothers' day @1:00. We were told no reservations for parties under 12 people (in advance), which makes it very difficult to plan anything at this establishment. Overall, we were treated like an inconvenience and felt rushed to leave. However, the service itself was slow and forgetful. Had to remind the waitress about drink items continually throughout the meal. They also brought the harder to make adult meals out BEFORE the easy to make Kids meals, which made for another unpleasant set of circumstances. I ordered one of the most expensive single item entrees on the menu - Steak (6 pz filet) and Cake (5oz crab cake). I ordered medium, it came out very well done AND cold, not even sure how that works. The crab cakes overall were tasty, but also on the cold side for all of us that ordered them. The steak I sent back and the replacement came out between rare and medium rare. I ate it rather than send it back. The waitress nor a manager offered us any reduction in our bill at all. It's clear that the cooks were not using temperature to judge done-ness of the meat. The view was beautiful and made it tolerable, but I will definitely not recommend this restaurant if you want quality food and do not plan to return. The service and food quality definitely do not justify the price they charge. The one saving grace was that its hard to mess up steamed shrimp and a salad, which is what my mother ordered, so mothers day for her was still preserved. Side note. Stoneys has started adding fillers to their crab cakes due to the reduction in available lump crab meat which would drive costs up. So they've had to balance crab to filler ratios. The ratio is acceptable, but if you know this in advance, you may choose another restaurant with "acceptable" crab cakes with fillers.

I'm giving my visit today 3 stars. I would give 2.5 but that is not an option. We've eaten there before, so no surprises. The hush puppy starter was good & our meal - the baby crabcake sandwich with potato salad & ice tea was fine. I try not to be judgemental but the restaurant felt dirty. The menu was sticky, the "hostess" walked around with a dirty towel on her shoulder (which was not welcoming & was unappetizing) and our server was just...something was off there. I've been there several times over the years & always enjoyed the meal but I won't be going back soon. I wouldn't take out of town company even though there is a great view. It felt like there was no management.

Reserved a table for a party of 15 last May to follow a graduation and this was a horrific choice that my extended family will forever judge me for. I picked this place based on view and its seemly solid yelp ratings. The manager confirmed outside seating when the reservation was booked, however upon entry we got some weird table on the bottom floor next to the crab picking area. Redeeming qualities: -orange crushes -peanut butter cupcakes - crab dip app was ok Service was so terribly slow, the waitress would come and only get one refill per time, missing silverware settings plates, new members were not asked if they wanted a drink. After an hour for mostly sandwiches, salads, and crab cakes the food finally comes out. The staff drops 3 entrees and hits my mother in the head with a plate, and says NOTHING, no apology. So I waited thirty minutes of waiting for a remake of a salmon sandwich, it comes out literally raw... For those that did eat a meal the consensus was that the crab cakes were unimpressive with mostly filler, the shrimp was rubbery, salad dressing seemed off, sides were cold, and a series of other mistakes occurred like people getting the wrong sides, meat missing on salads etc. I did speak to the manager and have the three dropped entrees removed from the bill, but honestly I felt more should have been done considering the size of the party and amount of things wrong. I'm not the type to ever try and get things for free but when you drop the food once, you wait thirty minutes for a remake and the seafood is raw it's like I'm not waiting for you to screw it up a third time. Waitresses was somewhat apologetic towards the end but that same attitude was not expressed the entire service. Overall, the seafood is mind blowingly awful for a place in the middle of the water, service is inexperienced and cannot handle groups or conflict resolution.

Yup this place was ok. First can we pump some heat it's cold out and yeah my toes where numb from the cold. The service here was ok and the price not to bad. They got our orders mixed up and who's gonna waste a dozen oysters. Would have been nice if it all came out how we ordered but hey it could have been worse. The crab soup was meh and tasted more like it came from a soup can than a homemade Maryland crab soup I was expecting. The rest of the food was good but not a wow. The best part was the good view for the sunset we had but that was all. If you must just swing by and try but don't expect to much and enjoy the cool view.

Love love love it. Although as tourists we had a hard time finding a server to seat us (it says "please wait to be seated" but just go in and find someone lol). The menus mild description doesn't do justice to how yummy the food is. Among our order were the Land Nachos, so good. I'm still thinking about them. The service was friendly and welcoming and the view is incredible. definitely somewheres to enjoy the sun while snacking. I wish we could have popped in for the night life, we were told it's very enjoyable as well.

I took my daughter there for dinner last night. We us a very nice local girl as our waitress very nice and the food was good not great but we enjoyed ourselves. Wouldn't recommend the crab pretzel. The cod poorboy was very good. Sat outside on the river side and enjoyed the beauty. Really enjoyed spending an evening with my daughter.

It's summertime. I'm a Marylander. And I love anything that features Maryland crab on the menu. There are two Stoney's within walking distance of each other on Solomons Island. There's the Seafood House/Kingfishers and then there's Solomon's Pier which features casual dining, a large outdoor deck, and great views of the Patuxent River. We were pretty hungry and so we gorged ourselves on crabbetizers (I just made that up): the crab pretzel--a good sized pretzel enough for two baked with cheese, topped with greens and lump crab meat served with a mustard dip; crab and shrimp dip (served with bread); and their Broome's Island crab soup, a family recipe that's a spicy tomato-based crab soup. I had a po'boy and fries for dinner which I thought was okay: 4 strips of fried fish on a bed of greens sitting in a sub roll with a side of limp fries. Meh. My friends had Stoney's baby crab cake which was the size of a baseball. No filler is always a plus for me. Why 3 stars? The service was a bit slow and it didn't seem like a busy evening. Our server was friendly, so I'm not sure why there were occasions when we were just waiting for our food or drinks to come out. The views of Pax River are great, having company is always good, but don't be surprised if you have to wait around for your food or drink.

Very disappointed with the food considering the price. Crab dip was blah, crab legs were cold. Servers were teenagers, polite, but no one bothered to ask how the food was. Was our first and last time there.

Service was good, atmosphere is good, food is average. Had the local oysters, rock fish bites and seared ahi tuna. We are from the south, but we know good seafood when we get it and here is just about average. Atmosphere is excellent though, had a couple drinks and everything was just fine

Stopped in for something to eat and have a quick drink. Tried the rockfish bites and they were good. Drinks are pricey, but this place has a terrific view. Lots of locals sitting at the bar. They told us this was the best place in Solomons. Not sure if that is the case, but if you want to kill some time looking at the water, this is a good spot to do it.

Meh I wouldn't come back. I'm from out of town and the service was off. It was. Thursday afternoon and definitely not busy. We were seated but it took about 5-10 mins for the waitress to come around. She wasn't rude but she wasn't great either. Perhaps I expect peppier customer service. They had no crabs, no clams, well then I had to settle for some shrimp which wasn't bad either but it was just seasoned with old bay. I'm sure there other items are good but maybe I'm just assuming you should have fresh seafood if you're right off the pier.

It was my first time in Solomons Island. Nice view of the water My friend's mom said they have really good crab cake so we decided to eat here. My sister and our friend's mom got the baby crab cakes. They were both a little disappointed because they ordered the broiled crab cakes and fries and the fries were warm and the crab cakes were also warm (and a little cold near the middle of the crab cake). I got the monte cristo (came with jam) and it was good with and without the jam. I think the jam added a little more to it though so I continued to add jam as I ate. I also got a side of chips (a little stale). Service was wonderful! We told our server that our crab cakes were not that good and cold and so she apologized and we asked her for a new dish of crab cakes and fries and this time the crab cakes came out hotter than before (got cool quickly) and the fries were hot! The hot fries made the meal so much better. I would give this place 5 stars for excellent service (I wish I knew the name of our server. All I remember is she looks young and has dark hair.

I have been to Stoney's quite a few times. It's my go to for a low key night of seafood and beer. The oysters on the half shell are great, extremely fresh and delicious. Next I'd suggest the steamed crab or steamer baskets, it's a whole lot of seafood and is usually done pretty well. The garlic herb mussels are pretty good too, though sometimes slightly over cooked. The staff is always very friendly and professional. This place could possibly make it to 4 stars if they had more interesting items on the rest of the menu. Mostly everything else it burgers and fried everything which is the sad state of standard American fare...

  • Catrina G.

I'm consistently disappointed here. The only plus seems to be the view. I want to like it, but it just makes me sad how bad it can be here more often than not.

Terrible crabs. Very very terrible crabs. They were boiled, not broiled or steamed, boiled and gross. No seasoning. The worst ever.

Service was slow, but if you order apps and drinks then you should be fine. The kitchen staff is small, so it does not seem to be the waiter's fault for slow service. It was not as bad for us as other Yelpers have reported. The crab dip app was fantastic. We could have just eaten that all night. The oyster shooters were good and cheap too. Crab Monte Cristo was our favorite, and was amazing. The seafood stew... or something to that effect... was great too (creamy seafood mix and mashed potatoes). Rockfish tacos (not on menu anymore but they can make it) were nit as good this time, but we're still good.

Great place for crab cakes! I also ordered the seafood nachos which were amazing. The food was great but service was not! When it comes to a restaurant service is really what makes or breaks your night. My sister and I went to have something quick to eat so we decided to sit at the bar, since the hostess was nowhere to be found. My sister had a drink "cheap sunglasses", which was great but the bartender not so much. Something that I absolutely hate is when employees talk bad about other customers in front of customers. Also she acted like if we were bothering her by ordering something. Another thing was that it took forever to get utensils to eat. Its common sense when you bring use pur food, we are going to need something to eat it with or at least a napkin sheesh! All in all this restaurant has really great food and the scenery is spectacular. Service wasn't that great but the food was :)

My boyfriend took me here for Lunch one day and then Dinner another day. I have to say we're a fan of this place. I wouldn't recommend sitting outside for lunch in the middle of summer though because it's SOOO humid and hot there (Sorry..Native San Diegan..we have no humidity so I was dying the entire time I was in Maryland). We had a much better dining experience during Dinner because we sat by the bar and ordered our weight in seafood. lol Jay was the bartender? manager? on duty that night and we had a great time. He made sure our drinks were full and our food came out in a timely manner. I love their Drunken Clams and their Steamed Mussels. Their Oysters, while they are smaller than the Oysters I'm used to eating in San Diego, are quite tasty (smaller, but more awesome brine-y flavor).

I had moderately good expectations for the crab cakes as they were "voted best by the Washington Post". Boy was I disappointed. They came out dry and tasteless with a lot of salty filler. Two of these "crab cakes" with slaw and fries set me back $28. My wife liked her Crab Louie salad so maybe I ordered the wrong thing. The two stars are for the wonderful staff and the view from the deck. I would certainly go back for a drink and scenery but not the food.

The fried oyster appetizer was excellent: hot, and juicy with tender batter. The view of the river and bridge is wonderful. However, Neptune's Platter was a disappointment. It was lukewarm, and had so much greasy liquid that I stuffed sugar packets under one side of the plate so the food could drain. The fish was soggy. The crab cakes were ok. The scallops and shrimp tasted old and tired. I didn't finish my food, but went home and ate Oreos.

Went here for Easter brunch and it was delightful! Both my husband and I loved the items we chose (the lobster roll and the open-faced Greek sandwich). The lobster roll sandwich came with crispy fries doused in Old Bay seasoning, which was very yummy! I'd (always) recommend asking for Ranch dressing for dipping sauce. If you can, try to get a table overlooking the bay. It was too cold to sit outside, but the view was really fantastic. They also have a nice selection of brunch-y and specialty cocktails. Really excited to go here agan!

This place just looks so cool, either from the water or from the street ... so my Dad I decided to give it a try one night. We ate upstairs, just as the sun was going down. Being that we are both amateur photogs, we thought this was perfect! And what goes better with a great atmosphere than great food? Well, Stoney's didn't get that memo ... we ordered two beers, which were actually very good - this lead us to the thought that maybe they should focus on being a bar, and leave the restaurant portion of their business in the dust. We ordered some steamed shrimp, which were undercooked, lacking in Old Bay seasoning, and just overall not very good. We still held out hope that our food would be good, and we were wrong. I forgot what I ordered, but my Dad ordered the fried seafood platter, and there was nothing on that plate that was good. My Dad, thinking that maybe it was just him, asked me to try many things on the plate, and I agreed with him - it was awful. On top of all that, it's pretty pricey for terrible food. Good concept, sitting out over the water in a place as beautiful as Solomons. But if you're going to compete with waterfront restaurants in Maryland, you're going to have to step your game up Stoney's, this isn't going to cut it. If I want to sit out this summer and get a beer with friends, I'll go to the bar at Stoney's, but there will NEVER be any Stoney's food in my future.

Went in on Friday the 19th and sat outside on the deck. There was a slight wait to get out there but definitely worth the wait! Our server, Alejandro, definitely made up for the wait getting our drinks and appetizers quickly. He easily brought the experience from a 2-3 star performance to a 4-5 star. Food was average seafood but the view was spectacular. Definitely make sure you get a good waiter if you want a decent experience here. The other tables that Alejandro wasn't serving had to ask a fair amount of times for things over and over to their waitress and Alejandro ended up getting them everything they needed cause she couldn't keep up. Still a saved experience and a very good one at that. Would definitely recommend and will probably go back.

Dang, A year ago I would've told you that I loved this place. Unfortunately the quality of the clientele and the service has declined substantially. First off, the food is still good. Secondly, some of the regulars are still very nice people. The problem is that the managers tolerate (or choose to ignore) the most glaring problems. Over service, fighting, and lewd behavior are now the norm. The winter months are calm, but the summers at this place are now reserved for douchebags, meatheads, SMIBs, and losers. Bye bye, pier.

I have only had one other Monte Cristo before, and I decided to get the crab Monte Cristo. I wanted to forgo the typical side dishes, I trend more toward healthy food, so I got a side of asparagus. When I was in my twenties, I would put fries on a sandwich, and thought I had just invented something special. I decided to put some of the asparagus on the CMC. Wow. I love the atmosphere, the view is magnificent, the food delicious, love the seered tuna as well. I highly recommend Stoney's.

Would normally get a 3, but for the location & view. I've been here a twice while in the area and went here both times for crab. Sat outside both times, so my review isn't really for the indoor dining experience. Crab cakes are very good. You can tell they aren't full of filler - they are more like a giant ball of crab than a patty. They do fall apart very easily, but to me that means there's not alot there besides crab - a good thing. I have also tried the cajun crab chowder - it has corn in it - & it was verryyy good. I was seated promptly both times. Once was in the evening, and I was seated outside next to a table full of smokers. I get that you can smoke outside, & I could have said something, but why not seat me on the other side of the pier where nobody was? As I said before, crab cake sammie was very good both times. Service is ... okay. I get when a restaurant is slow & the staff has downtime they are going to chat & hang out - but don't forget about your tables! Come ask me how my food is - see if I need a refill. The 2nd I was there it became close to the point that I was going to have to go in search of my waiter to get my check. Ultimately - I do believe it's probably one of the better places in the area to get crab. And the view really is gorgeous.

Zero stars is more appropriate. Wish I could say the food was good or something but I came with a group of 15 and the hostess was rude and said it would be over an hour before we could be seated. Sounds typical, but the place wasn't that busy and she didn't seem to want us there at all. As a matter of fact, her face dropped as soon as we got to the entrance. She barely looked up from the napkins she was folding. Go somewhere that's more hospitable.

I'm an Annapolis native that now lives in Delaware. I hadn't been down to Solomon's in 10yrs and decided to take my wife there for a weekend getaway. When I would go to Solomon's before I has to eat at Stoney's on the pier. We get to Stoney's around 6 on a beautiful Saturday night. I expect a long wait but instead it was only about 5mins. The waitress we got was friendly but a little shy. The restaurant was clean and not noisy. For an appetizer we ordered hush puppies and the crab and shrimp dip as an appetizer. The hush puppies were ok. The crab dip was not thick enough. It was good but almost watery. Of course the whole reason I wanted to go to Stoney's is for the crab cakes. My wife ordered the Neptune Platter which is scallops, shrimp, grouper, and crab balls. The grouper and shrimp were cooked well. The crab balls had filler but not too much, but there seemed to be no Old Bay in/on them. The scallops had no taste and one was way undercooked. I had the steak and cake. Steak was cooked just right. The crab cake was good but it had much more filler then I remember it having before. Also it was smaller then I remember. The ones I has before from Stoney's were softball sized but this one was a little smaller then a baseball. All in all Stoney's was not a bad choice but I doubt it'll be my first choice next time.

Best view of the river and the tall bridge. Best location. Next to boardwalk. Please call ahead if you need handicap accessible. The wheelchair can be accessed through the side entrance to the bar area. No children after 7 pm in the bar area. The food is ok. But you are her for drinks and view.

Not my initial choice but due to the holiday (7/4) my original selection was closed and so we ended up here. Nice vista of the Patuxent River all around. The food is expensive considering the quality and quantity. Their specialty crab cakes are dry inside and tasteless. $17.50 served in a bun with lettuce, tomato and a side of slaw or potato salad. Service was chaotic and slow. Our poor server was overwhelmed from the influx of customers so she got orders mixed up and therefore people were complaining. The oysters were $10 for 1/2 doz. served in a plate with melting ice. I would not come back here, not for the ho hum food and the mediocre service.

This location used to be Stoney's. It's gone downhill in my opinion. The service was sloooow, especially for a week night. It wasn't that busy but some of the staff was setting up trivia night at the bar. I guess they thought it was a good time to chill. I had the flounder and it wasn't that good. Everything else was ok but I look forward to good seafood when I'm in the area. Not sure if I'll come back.

Let me preface this review by saying I've been going to the pier for about 35 years. I've always been a loyal fan, as it's a great location with spectacular views and smack dab in the middle of Solomons Island. But for several years now it has been going downhill. I wish it weren't so, I truly do, but it is no longer worth eating here. The food and service are haphazard and for the prices they charge that is just unacceptable. Dined there last night for about the tenth time in the year, and it was the same bad experience. Shoddy, slow service delivering mediocre food when they do get around to serving. We were a party of eight and although the pier was not crowded it took us about two hours to get out. I asked TWICE for water which never came. My wife's seafood dinner was cold and although it was supposed to have scallops it did not. Appetizer showed up but no plates or utensils. The wrong beers were delivered. Asked for a wine re-fill half way thru the meal and it finally showed up about the same time as the check. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else.

Second time to Stoney's, this time with the Corvette Club (ACCC & Culpepper). They gave us (20+) the entire upper level of the restaurant, which had amazing views!! Very attentive servers as well. They did a great job. Of course not all of the food came out together, but hey, it was worth whatever wait we had. The steamed shrimp was HUGE and delicious, steamed perfectly. Hush puppies to die for!! I did not hear a single complaint out of 20+ people. Look forward to visiting Stoneys again soon~

Went here for drinks and appetizers. Bloody Mary and beers were on point. Bloody Mary was a good amount of pepper and spice. Crab and shrimp dip ($14)was terrible. Probably the worst I have ever had and I am a Maryland native. Tasted like hot mayonnaise and frozen shrimp.... Was there even crab inside?? Also got a dozen oysters ($12), mixed variety. Waitress mixed them up and forgot order of them. Three oysters were rancid- smell and taste; inedible. Amazing view; would return for beer but food was WAY overpriced.

The first thing youll experience is the rudest hostess youve ever met thatll make you feel like youre ruining her day by showing up... then youll request outside seatinh and get shover through a sardjne can of a packed deck then if youre lucky 15 min later youll get a server. Food was mediocre and if you want to wait an insane amount of time for mediocre overpriced food, this is your place. 3 bucks for a small condiment sized cup of coleslaw? Get a grip - my friends and i and pretty much every one i know will never ever go here again unless it's to order a beer that's already in a bottle prepared by someone competent. The ON KY Redeeming Quality Is The view... But It's NO Excuse to Pass off half edible crap to your customers.

We thought this was the signature restaurant for Historic Solomon's island. Nice views, friendly staff, but the food left us disappointed (for the price). Stick to the crab cakes if you do go - these are still worth the visit.

The location is great. It provides for a great view, specially if you sit at the bar outside, which I did. The bar seemed a little untidy and dirty; both behind the bar and the bartop. There were flies EVERYWHERE. I understand it is difficult to control flies during warm weather (I visited in early October and it was still getting into the lower 80s during the day) at a restaurant. I ordered the crab cake sandwich with potato salad, and it was delicious. The crab cake-like other reviewers have commented-was huge and contained copious amounts of crab and very little, if any, filler. The service was simply ok. I was greeted promptly, got my beers and food quickly. However, the bartender was not friendly, looked unkept (like she rolled out of bed, threw on the shirt she wore to work the day before), and not in the least bit talkative. Three stars is my score. The food redeemed an otherwise very mediocre experience.

It was fine. The crab cakes were a bit too much bread-like filling. I dipped them in some yellow sauce and that helped. The asparagus seemed microwaved. Very chewy. The view is lovely!

It's a good thing I don't live in the Solomon's Island area or otherwise I'd be 600 lbs from eating here all the time! Stoney's has some of the best fresh seafood I've ever had: portions are generous, well prepared, and, though a tad on the pricey side, a great value for the money. Service is good and the views from the outdoor deck are beautiful.

I went here to get my crab cake fix and to see how Southern southern Maryland gets down, I'm talking all the way to the tip of Maryland, tip.. hehe, I digress. First off for an app, I went with the steamed shrimp in old bay seasoning, naturally. My goodness these scrimp were large and hitting, I got the small order which was about six it was more than enough to make me feel like I got iodine poisoning...to a seafood lover that is a good thing folks. On to my entree, so many choices so lil time, so I got the pier platter which had a sampling of shrimp, oysters, haddock, and crab balls with two sides. I know I know say it with me Ooohh weeee. Needless to say everything I had was superb, plus very nice ambiance with my table on the water topped it off. I only saw a smattering of reviews for this fine establishment, but I can not see how anyone could rate this place less than four stars. My waitress was attentive, nice, showed genuine concern over my order and was polite. I enjoyed everything. If u wanna drink there it seems like their concoctions were on the high side (though it comes in a take home bucket) but if u want a straight up LI iced tea like I did to get my mind right after that long a$$ drive, it was about $7.

Have been here 3 times before but came this weekend after winery hopping in the area. Figured it was time to write a review. First off, you cannot beat the view. The restaurant literally sits on the water. The service is good. Staff is attentive and moves fairly quickly. Can't remember what I had before but this time I had the Fried Crab Dip. Its egg rolls filled with crab dip. Very good. I also had the Fish Tacos. Yum. The fish was cooked well and flavor was great. Hubs had the Rockfish Gyro and he liked it. Great casual spot and its not astromonical in pricing. We had the app and two entrees for $40. For seafood, that's pretty good. If its nice out, definitly sit outside.

Awesome--I love this place. We continue to go back again and again. Their crab cakes are overpriced so I don't order them, however, the corn and crab chowder is wonderful and everything else I've had on the menu has been great. It's a favorite!

Has a tourist feel but I was told locals hang out here. Prices certainly reflect a tourist upsell, but it was one of the better places we ate. Crab Chowder shared was rich and savory with a slight kick. We enjoyed it. My husband enjoyed his Monte Cristo and luckily I ordered a salad to add some balance to all that rich creaminess. my salad was large but a bit imbalanced I thought. It was only after I ate most of the lightly dressed leaves that I found a big pool of dressing and mounds and mounds of cranberries and feta cheese (I'm talking approx 1 cup full) resting at the bottom of my plate. I added the crab cake and I thought it was superb. Big chunks of sweet and fresh tasting crab meat just barely bound together and lightly fried on the outside. It's more like a crab ball, as it's round and not a pattie. It was delicious! Not much comment on the view, we were sat inside near the entrance and bathrooms. Service was solid and prompt.

It was a wonderful Sunday afternoon at Stoney's. Our sever Mark was efficient and friendly!! The crab cake was huge and full of great meat!! The Ruben was fresh and hot!!! The views are to die for and the deck breeze was perfect.

Terrible service! Mother's Day brunch was a bust. Website says no reservations, but they take them. They couldn't figure it out until after they gave us a normal table, so we were paraded past back through the entrance line to the picnic tables out front. Made us feel like losers. 45 minutes from order to table. Food was ok, not nearly worth the expensive prices.

Stopped by for dinner last night. We were seated after only a brief wait. The waitress seemed really nice, but struggled with running up and down the stairs for drinks. When I placed my order, the waitress paused and then notified me that the seafood platter I wanted to order costs $65 and questioned if I still wanted it, almost to insinuate that it may be out of my price range. I politely confirmed my order. Service was a little slow, and the restaurant did not appear to be very busy. The view from upstairs was beautiful for a dinner near sunset. I would consider visiting again.

Made a visit here during a recent business trip and it was pretty good. They are supposed to be famous for their crab cakes, but I wasn't 100% smitten on them. First of all, they aren't crab "cakes"...they're more like crab balls...and a baseball to be exact. These suckers were huge! They were very meaty but my only complaint is that with the crab in a ball, the center is a little too wet and "uncooked" for my preference. Other than the crab cakes, they also have a menu full of fresh seafood platters and oysters. The raw oyster platter I ordered was great and so were the fried hush puppies (albeit they were tiny). Service was fast and friendly and the location is right on the pier. Would probably go back if I was in the area but I most likely will not order the crab cakes.

I had no problem with the place and found our food to be just fine. Our server was nice, the view was great and crab legs were yummy. I ordered the crab cake sandwich which was absolutely massive and my companion had the French Dip. But the real star were the crab legs from the kid's menu. We couldn't bring ourselves to order the whole two pounds because frankly we didn't want to spend that much but we were able to ask for the kid's meal which was just right and it came with fries and Oreos. Even though we ordered two, it still ended up being a better deal than ordering from the adult menu. It was still plenty of food and we were stuffed enough (finally... note to self... eat first, then go to Tiki Bar) to take some to go.

The softball sized crab cake is pretty good folks. Don't get me wrong, it belongs in the upper 50 percentile. But here's the deal. This is one of those places that has rested on the proverbial laurels for quite some time. The beer selection is old school at best. And the atmosphere could use a pick-me-up. So, if you like that kind of thing, you'll like this too. Still... The crab cake was pretty good.

I'll give them one star for the view, but other than that, the experience was terrible! We were told it was a 40-50 min. wait. We were enjoying the sunset on the pier with family we were visiting and didn't know where else to go for such a view. So we waited. When we finally got seated, it took the waiter about 10-15 to take our drink order. We told him to put in my daughter's Mac n Cheese order right away because she was ravenous and slowly fading since it was close to 9:30pm. He came back with our drinks, but not the Mac n Cheese... Not for another 15 minutes. We hadn't even ordered our food yet! Basically, we sat there for 30 minutes without even putting our order in! The place closes at 10pm! On top of that, my daughter didn't like her Mac n cheese, and instead of Sprite, they gave her carbonated water. Insult to injury. We decided to just get the check for the drinks and Mac n cheese and go back home (another 45 minutes away) and eat. This will be a experience we'll remember, but unfortunately, not for a good reason.

Well my family and I wanted to get out of the house and go somewhere near water and enjoy a meal. So we drove one hour to Solomons Island. We decided to go to Solomons Pier and I cant begin to tell you how disappointed we were in the food and the service. We have gone several times in the past and the service and food is steadily declining. So we got seated, so about 20 minutes passed and we see people that came in after us getting service. So we are still waiting on a waitress to come to our table and at least give us a glass of water, but nothing. So there was a waitress in our area and she had walked past us several times so I stopped her and asked if she could get our waitress so she says oh, I can wait on you. Turns out that she was our waitress. She saw us sitting there the 20 times that she walked past us to wait on other people. So we ask for WATER and that takes 20 minutes....come on really! So after about 40 minutes we get our drinks (lemonade, sprite, cranberry juice). Now just to get our drinks it took 40 minutes. It takes another 20 minutes to get an appetizer. Then another 30 minutes to get our meals. So basically it took nearly an hour to get our food. So we get our food. I got the crabcake which was heavily breaded and dry. My husband got soup and salad and the soup was cold. He did enjoy the salad. The food taste like its out of the box and microwaved. The past fews years when we had dinner there I do not recall the food being that bad. The service has never been great..But we WILL NOT eat at Solomons Pier EVER again. The service was horrible and so was the food. After we left we drove around to see what other restaurants are in that area because we will not be going back to Solomons Pier. It gets a two thumbs down from me. Don't waste your time or your money. I really dont want to give them a one star rating they dont even deserve that!

This place would be well served by having Gordon Ramsey visit it to assist with service, speed and knowledge of food on its menu by its servers and management , food quality and overall character. Said it before, only thing going for it is the view. And a waiter named CJ who makes up for it in his attitude and excellent service.

We were told this was a great place to go by a local customer of mine and per the reviews here on Yelp. Waited to be greeted by the hostess and were finally seated. Waited 10 minutes to even be acknowledged by our server who "greeted" us as she was walking by, didn't stop and spoke over her shoulder to us saying "hi, I'll be with you in a few minutes or so... " we waited 10 more minutes and walked out. I've worked in restaurants before, this girl was not in the weeds and there was no excuse for her to ignore us. Obviously not impressed and will not return.

Been here many times...always good food...this pm Rockfish Gyro (prior favorite) was a joke...past was huge meal for $16...6-8 little chuncks of fish...only one gyro...think there were 2 in past...bad place to vent...did not want to be rude with friend that did not take my recommendation on Rockfish Gyro and had a good meal...

We chose Solomon's Pier so we could sit on the water. I was too cold so we stayed inside but the view was still wonderful. The gulls on the pier were very entertaining. The negative first: nobody greeted or acknowledged us standing at the please wait to be seated sign for about ten minutes even though various employees saw us from afar and even walked past us on their way somewhere else. I can only assume they felt it was the hostess job so they left it to her. When she appeared she was happy and perky and I was hungry so I moved past it. The positive: locals were hanging out at the bar which is always a good sign. Place was busy but not packed. Our server was very sweet and attentive. I ordered the oyster basket. Even though I read a bad review here about their size and preparation I saw them in the case so I went for it. They were crusted very nicely on the outside and juicy on the inside. The menu said you get ten, I got at least fifteen. Some were small but others were bigger. I was happy with them. My husband had the pork shanks. I think there were six on the plate along with mash potatoes and veggies. I tasted them and they were moist. Hubby ate two and couldn't finish. We took the rest to go back at our hotel and I ate them as a late night snack after he fell asleep. I liked the atmosphere and the food was fine so I recommend.

The place is a bit too loud for a relaxing brunch or lunch. The food was mediocre and the staff a bit harried even though there weren't many people there. I must say that I didn't go during a major rainstorm like Valerie did, so I wasn't quite as impressed by the bar. I think there are definitely better places to eat on Solomons Island (Lotus for brunch, Kingfisher for lunch, DiGiovanni's for dinner, Zahniser's for upscale dining).

Ate at the Stoney's on the pier. Excellent views. Nice wait staff. Raw oysters were good. Was not impressed with the crab cakes. While it is usually a plus that they contained no filler, they were constructed entirely of shredded crab and contained zero lump crab meet. They were practically devoid of taste. Have had much better crab cakes at other places in Maryland. The green beans I had (the featured vegetable of the night) were overcooked and flavorless. The house salad was limp and contained processed shredded cheese straight from the bag. Lettuce also appeared to be from a bag. Topped off with what was the worst glass of Malbec I have ever had, this is definitely a place I won't be giving a second chance.

A few weekends ago, Mike and I found ourselves wandering around Solomons Island on a stormy Friday. We decided duck into Solomons Pier for a couple of cocktails. Luckily we did, because soon after we sat down, it started pouring rain all around us. We were sat outside in their bar which is a room made almost entirely of windows that looks out on the water. It was like sitting in a giant glass box while it was being sprayed down with water all around you. It was amazing. But lets talk about the food, shall we? Neither of us had ever been here before, but we chose it for the spectacular view; it really is amazing. Mike ordered a beer which for the life of me I cannot remember the name of (I wasn't claiming I was a food blogger back then so no notes were taken!) and I got what they called a skinny margarita. Mike liked his beer of course and while my margarita was tasty, there is no way that sucker was low calorie. It tasted like sweat and sour mix and little else. And it was STRONG. You definitely get your money's worth there! We got hungry (like we always do when we say we're just stopping somewhere for drinks) and ordered the drunken clams which are clams dipped in dark beer, garlic, parsley, and butter. They came with the perfect bread that was just the right amount of crispy and soft and was amazing dipped in the bowl of clams. I really enjoyed these and would eat them again in a heartbeat. The herbs and beer was delicious, but didn't take away from the ocean taste you want in your clams. The service was good, especially since the poor waitress kept having to walk out in the pouring rain to come help people . She even managed to get us our clams without getting any water in them somehow. I'll definitely come back to try the dinner and eat inside, but if you are wanting to enjoy some drinks and appetizers or to have a party, or just hang out with a large group, the outside bar is perfect. It's very casual, the bartenders are fast, the wait staff is friendly, and of course, the view is gorgeous. (review originally posted on bytheforkful.blogspot.com )

I would give this location of Stoney's 3.5 stars. The other Stoney's restaurant (Kingfisher) in Solomons is a little better. When we ate here the other day everything we ordered was good. We had the Fish and chips basket and a pound of steamed shrimp. There were 3 pieces of battered haddock with some crispy fries. The pieces of fish were about 3-4 oz. each. My son had the kids cheese burger sliders with a fruit cup. He doesn't eat much so I was able to eat one of the burgers and it was good too. I recommend sitting in the glassed-in patio during the hot summer months. You will be able to see all the boats cruising and the cool aviation activity at Pax River. Good food with good view

So I will start with the food . I ordered the fish , and chips . It was 14.00 , and I figured compared to a 20.00 crab cake sandwich I would try my luck considering if the crab cake were mostly breading I would not be pleased given the price . I also ordered hush puppies as an appetizer . They were 6.00 , and they were the worst I have ever had . They were not only burnt , but there wasn't even a basket full as you would assume . There were about ten smaller then a quarter , and again burnt . So I really would have stopped there , and asked for my check , however my friend , and I had traveled all day , and were very hungry so we stuck it out . For 14.00 I got two pieces of mediocre cod that were mostly greasy breading more then fish , and some fries , which sadly were the best part of the meal . To add insult to injury they were very stingy on the cocktail sauce , and the waitress was also not good at all . Not offensive , but poorly trained . She took my water glass , and never brought it back . I had to ask for a new glass . Not my kind of refill . Also she said my beer would be the equivalent of a Blue Moon , and it was more stout like a Guinness . She never asked if we enjoyed anything , or would like anything else . I waited tables in college , and tip very well mind you , but both my friend , and I felt the food was way over priced for what it was . You are paying for BAR FOOD with a Bay view , and for 20-30 a person you can go get a much better meal .

If this place was in my hometown, i would give it a 1.5 stars. Since this is southern maryland, three will do. Food is pretty good. They actually serve stoney's crab cake (MUST TRY when you are in souther marland). This is my second time here, and its pretty busy place with all ages. However this time, i got really sick after the raw oysters. SIGH... just thinking about it makes me wanna gag. But if you are looking for casual and meet people, or want to be in a decent crowded place near the water, then this is the place. FYI: cute waitress :)

The food was all great. Five of the six of us had something from the sandwiches, one had the fried oyster basket, and we split three appetizers. Can't complain about anything we had to eat. The rockfish bites and the crab cake sandwiches were too good for words. The only thing that brought the whole experience down was the SLOW service. We were upstairs and I think there was only the one waitress for the 4-5 tables occupied up there. I did give us time to sit and watch the sunset with the great view up there but it would have been much more enjoyable with our food out in a timely manner.

Went here for dinner on a Wednesday night, not crowded though the bar was full. Good beer selection on tap. Had their cajun crab chowder to start which was delicious and had just enough spice to not over power the chowder. It was thick too, lots of chunky crab meat, I should have gotten the bowl vice the cup! For an entree I had the Stoney's Crab Cakes which were described by our server as "Two baseball sized cakes". She wasn't kidding, more like softballs. What she forgot to mention was that there is no filler in these puppies! For sides I got onion rings and homemade potato salad which were good. In retrospect I should have gone with a bowl of the chowder and the baby cake (one baseball)! However It was good and recommended.

I have always had good food & drinks at Solomons Pier. The Bar Manager, Katie, Janel & other staff are always personable, friendly, knowledgable & fun to be around. I have a number of favs: The Orange Crush drink is awesome, made with freshly squeezed oranges - I have gotten pretty fresh many times! The Rockfish Bites, with blue cheese & hot sauce is a great 'snack' & comes in half or full portion. The house salad with cranberries, nuts & topped with either wild salmon or filet steak is my 'healthy' option :-) I also love their Fish & Chips, hailing myself from England, this is one of my homesick remedies! The crab cakes are HUGE & very tasty, which I treat myself to occasionally. All in all, a great experience. The only negative, is the wait can be long, because it's usually busy ... But worth the wait IMHO.

OK...I guess you could call me a tourist for this visit since I was on business travel. I came to Solomon's on a whim and have two words for you.... CRAB CAKES! They were big and fatty and 1 was plenty for me (considering I had a salad and appetizer before hand). I loved it and would go back again just for more crab cakes. My mouth is watering right now just thinking about it....

Mostly fried seafood. The scenery is probably nice in the summer, but the food is just so-so. Seems like the thing to do here is just get a beer at the bar & enjoy some fried oysters (which are pretty good).

I was promised a lighthouse. While in Florida to visit my husband's parents, they took us into St. Augustine where a beautiful and majestic red and white stripped lighthouse rose into the horizon and mesmerized me. Then the Washington Post did a feature on lighthouses in Maryland - all within a day-trip driving range, and well, when my husband asked what did I wish to do last Saturday, who is surprised by my clamor for a lighthouse outing? My husband picked Solomon's Island, as it was on the way to his parents (who was baby-sitting the nephews) so we could invite them along. We get to Solomon's with a desperate hunger upon us, so my father in law recommended going to Solomon's Pier for a cheap and quick lunch, as he was there several years ago with excellent results. I guess the management changed, because lunch was anything but cheap...and definitely not excellent. With sandwiches above $10, we probably should have kept on walking. But we were hungry, the place was cute and kitschy, and we had a marvelous view of the water. I ordered the fish tacos ($12), with fries (for an addition $1.50) and after nearly 40 minutes we finally get our food. Now, I need to pause here and interject a few things. Although the outdoor deck was busy but not packed. In fact, the indoor dining room (where we were) was rather empty. Plus, I believe that those sitting on the outdoor deck was more interested in enjoying drinks, rather then food. I was the only one that ordered a non-sandwich. My mother-in-law ordered a Reuben, my husband, the fish sandwich, my father-in-law a crabcake sandwich, and my two nephews had a burger and a PB&J. Very simple and quick orders. No substitutions, no special requests. So why on *EARTH* did it take almost 40 minutes for our food to arrive...and without the french-fries - which we were told were still cooking, and didn't arrive until we were halfway through our meal?!? For $12, I was expecting 3 good sized fish tacos, but there were only 2, however, I will give them credit in that there were several pieces of fish in the tacos. Unfortunately, the fish was way overcooked - to the point were they almost tasted like fish-sticks (but the fish was grilled), and not even the spicy thousand-island-esque dressing could really save it. I liked the mild salsa that was topped on the tacos, however, there was too little of it, and it wasn't properly drained before it was put on my taco, making the tortillas soggy and mushy. I wasn't quite as big of a fan of the shredded iceberg lettuce that was used - it was pretty limp and looked a little yellow, I think I would have been more impressed with some crisp cabbage or coleslaw. When we finally did get our fries, they were OK, however, for freshly fried french fries, they were only lukewarm and not piping hot and crispy as I would expect. I will hand it to our server. He checked up on us often during the long wait, and was very nice to the nephews (especially the 3 year old that spilled his milk all over the table). I suppose that if this was a little shack on the pier, we wouldn't have been so disappointed, but because Solomon's Pier was so nice, and the prices of the food was higher, the quality and the speed of service was very disappointing. If I come back, I will probably only hangout on the outdoor deck for some drinks with a group of friends. I probably won't order any food - especially as there were plenty of other establishments that were also on the water, and looked like they had much better food. Oh, and I never did get to see my lighthouse...evidently, it burned down a year ago. A disappointing day all around. *Sigh*.

If there was an option to give zero stars, and still write a review...I would. Let me start it that way. My husband and I have been to Stoney's on the Pier several times before--usually just for cocktails/beers on the docks (when we have a baby-less afternoon) or an appetizer and enjoy the view. Yes, the prices are inflated but it's a great spot to sit on a warm, sunny afternoon. After making a big to-do about the place to my mom, who was visiting from out of town, we decided to go there for dinner--14 month old in tow. We thought for sure they would have a different dinner menu than their sandwich-heavy daytime menu. Sign #1--we were wrong. We decided to make do, and order our favorite appetizer--the drunken clams. Those came out promptly, and delicious. 50 minutes later, our entrees arrived. Ice cold, and I swear when they made my son's grilled cheese, they left the wrapper on the cheese because there was this inexplainable brown film (not the burned cheese kind of film, but the burned plastic/non-edible kind of film) on the sandwich. Usually my son inhales his grilled cheese...but he refused to take a 2nd bite. I sent it back, and requested it be removed from the bill. I should've asked for 2 out of our other 3 entrees to also be removed. My husband got 2lbs of Alaskan crab--and it was delicious. It's hard to mess up steaming crabs, though. I got the Solomon's Pier Platter which was in a chardonnay butter sauce. My food was ice cold, and the fish was tough (as in, it had been under a heat lamp for awhile, then allowed to cool). My mom ordered the oyster basket, and hers was ice cold, to the point the oysters were soggy from the grease settling. It was disgusting. At this point, I ate what I could off my plate and took my son outside--we had been sitting at our table for nearly 2 hours and he had had enough. So had I. I was infuriated when we got in the car and my mom told me she had paid the bill of over $100. That was just food and soft drinks (which we NEVER got refilled)--we had no alcohol on our tab. I called Stoney's the next day and spoke with Nathan, the "manager". when I explained our situation, and he said "thanks so much for sharing your experience with us." No offer to refund any part of the bill, no offer to invite us back to make our experience better--NOTHING. Well let me tell you what--that was our LAST experience with a Stoney's location-- I would've gotten better service and most likely better food at Chili's. Keep the $100 Nathan--your establishment needs it to keep your head above water. Keep treating your customers the way you are, and there won't be much business left.

The view at Solomon's Pier is better than the food. The atmosphere is nice for dinner and drinks with friends. Just don't expect the best seafood you've ever had. There are many other restaurants on Solomon's that offer seafood with 100% better quality. The food is average, the view is worth the trip/. The prices are a bit higher than they need to be.

Lived by the pier for a few years and have had most of the menu. They cater to locals, despite this being a major tourist trap restaurant--mostly because of the novelty and view. If you aren't a regular, expect miserable service. The crab cakes are good, though, so is the crab pretzel. Try the orange crush for a beverage.

If you're craving a crab cakes or want possibly one of the best around, come to Stoney's. They're really crab balls and used to be classified as baseball or softball sized but now are just small (one baseball sized) or large (two baseball sized). I had mine on a sandwich and had to end up ditching the bread for the second half so I could finish the crab cake. My mom wondered how they keep them together because they are all crabmeat with no (or very little) filler to be found. I opted for the potato salad with mine and it was good but quite gritty which means the potatoes weren't washed before they were cooked. My partner got the onion rings and they are the side to get. They're beer battered and cooked perfectly (not doughy). We started with the crab dip which was ok. I'd pass on this if given the opportunity again. It's overly cream cheesy so that's all you really taste. And the bread they served it with (a small baguette) was cold. Warm, toasty bread would've been better. The other appetizer we got was the striped bass bites. I knew they would be good but they ended up being great. Don't let the buffalo sauce reference scare you away. I asked to have them plain and was told that the sauce comes on the side anyway. They come lightly battered and fried and are perfect with just a touch of lemon drizzled over. If you want a fantastic appetizer or maybe even a meal (only if you're not into crab cakes), get a double order of the striper fish bites. Don't worry about all of the fried foods because you can walk it off downtown shopping or on the boardwalk.

I tried the Cajin Chowder and the Crab Cakes. The Cajin Chowder is okay, nothing really to write home about. Their Crab Cakes came with two flavors, fried and steamed. I had mine fried and they were delicious. I would say it is a bit overprices for a ball of crab meet, but I am not paying for dinner, who cares. The view was beautifil, it was right on a pier overlooking the patuxent river. The service was so so.

Being in Solomon's for the weekend for a wedding, I had one objective: have the best crab cake I could. Maybe a soft shell also. I've always been iffy about blue crabs. It's a lot of work for not a lot of meat, and the crab is rarely good enough to merit the work and cut fingers. Crab cakes on the other hand are fantastic when prepared right. I asked the groom, as well as the hotel, where can I get the best crab cake. They pointed us to Stoney's on the pier. Situated on the back bay, it had a nice view of the water. As we walked in, we interrupted the teenage girls discussing birth control options and they showed us to a table outside on the deck. We ran into our friends there for the wedding and asked the native Calvert County dude what to get. He claimed the sandwich that had a soft shell crab and a crab cake was the best he'd had. I of course had to order it. We also ordered hush puppies. The hush puppies were OK, but served with honey, became palatable when dipped. They were a little over fried. The sandwich was... Well it was pretty blah. The crab cake was underseasoned and pretty close to flavorless. So was the soft shell crab. I thought Marylanders loved Old Bay, but not apparently at the Stoney's kitchen. Even with added Old Bay, it was still incredibly bland. The tartar sauce was also surprisingly bland. Overall, for a $18 sandwich, it was an incredibly mediocre experience. The only joy was watching our friend try and hit on the 15 year old waitress, somehow not realizing her age.

This is a prime example of a place that trades on their location and scenery, which is what a lot of places on Solomons do. Having said that, if you're into shellfish, this is pretty much the only consistent place on the island to go--the mini steamer is usually pretty good and not overcooked. Their outdoor bar is nice and there is obviously a nice attraction, but service is typically sketchy as they tend to employ a lot of young people. Good luck getting noticed at the downstairs bar if they're very busy. Beyond that, it's not a horrible place to frequent as long as you know what to expect beforehand; it's just like rolling the dice.

The food was above average but ridiculously overpriced. I had the rockfish tacos, which were somewhat bland despite coming with some type of salsa. The service was standard, but combined with the small portions and high prices I wouldn't come back unless someone else was buying.

Good food and service. Crab balls overpriced but good. Rockfish buffalo stye done well. Local oysters tasty but had shell bits. I will return

Two stars for the service, view & the pier above the water. Beautiful, clean, relaxing. However, I won't eat here again. My SO and I had an early dinner here, the wait was supposed to be 15 min for outside seating so we grabbed a Guinness at the inside bar, 10 minutes later we were called and led to a nice corner table outside. The staff was friendly but the food was sub-par. My boyfriend got the fish & chips- the fish tasted like it had been fried twice- it was hard- not in a crispy good way but in a chewy, old way- maybe they fry the fish once and then re-heat it in the fryer? Maybe they fry it then freeze it? Batter then freeze then fry? Does it really matter? Any of the above make for heavy, greasy, chewy fried fish. My oyster sandwich had a stale french roll but the oysters were plump and fried perfectly. My "home-style" kettle chips were definitely from a bag and my boyfriend's fries came from a freezer. When we asked for another round of Guinness, the server informed us that they don't have Guinness at the outside bar, and she couldn't get it from inside, even though in order to get the food, any condiments, or use the loo, she has to pass within 5 feet of the inside bar. (I'm sure this is management's decision- and a bad one for all involved. Two beers would have upped our bill by $10, giving our server a few dollars more on her tip but this money now goes to the inside bartender) The point being, I had to get up from dinner to get my own drink. Kind of annoying. If you're in the Solomon's area and are looking for a nice place to have cocktails on the water- this is perfect. If you are looking for a decent place to eat, go somewhere else. P.S. Parents with wee ones, beware- there are no changing tables in the restrooms.

This place is completely awful!!! Our 20 minute wait ended up being over an hour and half. After complaining, they finally seated us only to make us wait at our table for another half hour till a server showed up. It didn't really make sense since they were really not busy. My son order the sirloin dinner which came out cold, dry and completely not edible. The side vegetables however were steaming since they had just come out of the microwave completely mushy. The fish dinner had a funny smell to it and again dry and overcooked. The only thing they got right was the Pier Salad. And there was a bug floating in my water. Nope, I won't be back soon!!!

Of all the places I miss in Solomons, I would have to say that this is the one place. I did not eat in the restaurant...I opted for the bar outside on the dock. Yep, I was thinking of the song "Sitting on the dock of the bay", but it is actually a river. Anyway, this is a cool place to sit and watch the people come and go while they eat their lunches. I pretty much just chilled at the bar and read my book. It was very relaxing. The bar chairs were not that comfortable, but over all, the experience was fun. I only came here for drinks and one time for two-pounds of crab legs for $21. Not a bad price! The view is nice. Never did see the sunset, but no worries...plenty of nice sunsets back home. The bartenders were very friendly and I never had any trouble with them giving me a glass of Yuengling. Not sure why they only have it in the restaurant, I would think a popular beer like that would be available at the outside bar. Great place, a must if you are in town!

Hurricane Isabel changed the face of much of Calvert County's western shore in 2003. Sometimes, it was for the better. Solomon's Pier was one of the restaurant/dockbars that experienced a resurrection after Isabel. Under new ownership, the Pier got a much needed facelift and overhaul. Good thing too...it looked as if it was ready to fall into the river. Solomon's Pier is now a very picturesque spot on the Patuxent River with views of the Chesapeake and Pax River Naval Air Station to the south, the Thomas Johnson bridge to the north, and all the yahoos on their speedboats and jetskis right in front skidding into one another along the water. Wheee! Boating whackos are best viewed from the outside dock bar...the newest edition to the Pier. Even on the hottest, sunniest days, there's a nice overhang from the bar that provides just enough shade and if watching bikers, boaters, and military types mix isn't enough entertainment...well, there are are a couple of televisons providing a rotation of ESPN, Nascar, and the Maryland favorite, Keno. Drink prices are reasonable, the bartenders are generous with their pours, and the atmosphere is relaxing. Due to my waterside drinking habits, I'll have to admit that I have yet to sit for a meal anywhere other than the bar...but I can HIGHLY recommend the Fish Tacos (hold your giggling, thanks.) The rockfish bites are also a good choice. The tell me there's a raw bar inside, but I've yet to pry myself from the dockbar. The Pier runs specials on the this year's summer drink, The Orange Crush (freshly squeezed oranges, Svedka clementine vodka, triple sec, and club soda over ice in a pint glass), which goes down easily, tastes like summer and makes you swear you can ride one of the skates that seem to be migrating down St. Leonard's creek this time of year. Last nights choice of drink, the Pier's very well made mojito, was terminated early due to the lack of fresh spearmint. Boo. Ya'll need to keep an eye on the spearmint. We made due with Blue Moon Honey Moon and oranges, which was very good with the mini crab cakes...but didn't make me want to jump in the water to saddle a cow-nosed ray. All in all, Solomon's Pier is a nice, safe place to sit for dinner, enjoy a unique Southern Maryland view of the water and the local color, and not risk a barfight. The best time to come to the outside bar, sunset. The sunset behind the bridge is the subject of MANY a phototographer's lens...it never get old or any less stunning.

I think these guys (and Stoney's Kingfisher, since they're the same owners) have hands down the best crab cakes on the island. Four Winds & Dry Dock have good crabcakes too, but Stoney's has the best. I get a broiled crab cake here (at the outdoor bar in good weather, what an amazing place to have a drink) almost every week in good weather. The staff is really really friendly.

I tend to shy away from seafood restaurants in beach towns on the East Coast. I've had too much greasy, deep-fried fish and shrimp. But yesterday, when I was in Solomons, MD, I discovered that my favorite restaurant in town, the CD Cafe, closed between 2:30 and 5:30. So we had a late lunch at Solomon's Pier. The setting, particularly on a sunny day, is gorgeous. The wait staff seemed a bit frazzled and disorganized. But the food, especially the broiled Patuxent seafood platter, was a delightful surprise. The scallops, shrimp, and grouper were particularly fresh and nicely seasoned. And the signature crab balls were delicious. Prices were typical of beach towns ($15-25 for seafood entrees).

Rockfish bites were a tasty treat- very large portions of well battered flaky fish! My bf and I split a crab cake platter entree. They were huge so we ended up taking one home. There was a little more filler and a little less old bay than I typically like, but they were still pretty tasty. The scenery makes this place. Nothing like sitting outside over the water on a warm summer night.

One of the best crab cake meals I've had--but then, you can't go wrong in MD--especially near the shore. Beautiful, spacious restaurant -- inside and out -- with a fantastic view of the Patuxent. Great, courteous service. Killer cocktails (I had the watermelon...something...made with 3 Olives vodka). Nice kids meal. Reasonably priced.

Have had wonderful food here every time! I like The Pier because it is unique - sitting over the Patuxent River. Like meeting your friends on a boat,

Will see. Man getting fish and chips is taking forever. The wait time was excessive and didn't set well with Nancy. My Monty Cristo was good and will order it again. Note, two Stony restaurants exist here on the island, go to the one thats not on the pier. Namcy's Fish and Chips was made out of Rockfish. Strong flavor but not for FnC's. She did not like it. Our server had seen the Nancy was not happy and took the soup and salid off the bill. Good move on her part. Overall, my disk looked and tasked good so I'll be back to try it again.

Awesome time at New Year's! Thanks to the Stoney's staff who cut us a break for being one of the two couples signed up for the NYE party. We still had a blast, the DJ was great! Happy New Year's Everyone!!

This is a great place to go and what I feel are the best crab cakes around. I got to try a few places while I was in town and this is one of the places I really enjoyed coming back to. The fried oyster sandwich was interesting, but good. One of my favorites besides the crab cakes was a steak salad which just tasted really good. The location is hard to beat right on the water and the service was good.

Scallops were so overcooked they weren't edible, fish was slimy, onion rings were soaked with grease and service wasn't near as good as it should have been.

I have been here quite a few times and I have a mixed review that leans more toward 4 stars. This is the kind of place that represents a great Southern Maryland experience and every time I have a visitor we end up eating here. It has all of the goodness that living on the water has to offer....like giant crab cakes, fishy brackishy water scent, orange crushes and a pier. The Pier Salad topped with Salmon is my go-to dish but I will touch upon some other favorites. The Crab Cakes are very good and large and just as pricey as anywhere else on the island but you will get more for your money. The Ahi Tuna is pretty much amazing and comes in thick deliciously and lightly seasoned slices with soy sauce and ginger on the side (which I never use). As far as atmosphere goes, I only sit in the bar area which is a covered pier. It used to be open and I liked that lot better but the closed version has grown on me. The bar tenders are all extremely personable. The serving staff is all chicks which is a little bit disappointing to the female patrons but.....lets be honest......Southern Maryland is just not crawling with female patrons. The scenery is amazing, especially when paired with good company. The only thing that keeps me from giving 5 stars in pretty much the fact that I am not wowed and amazed when I eat at the pier. That being said, you surely won't be disappointed and you certainly won't leave hungry.

Well, this place has a gorgeous view! I have now been twice, because in all honestly there are not a ton of nice restaurants to choose from in the area...I will probably not be back unless it is for coctails...maybe an app! The prices are really high! I am kind of a cheapo, unless I know a place is awesoem or they have aunique menu, but here it is just plain too expensive for me, but like I said the view is aweseome! The first time I went I had a cut of soup the mushroom brie one (it was ok) not bad or good. And a gourmet grilled cheese, there is nothing gourmet about it...it is a piece of bread and some mild cheese...come on!! grilled cheese is so fun and easy to exipement with!!! Give me a day in your kitchen stoney's I can teach you!! That was the first visit...the service was good that visit and our waitress was super nice. Second visit I took my parents (it was late I don't know if that is the reason but the service sucked) Our watress ignored us, and when I went to the restroom I saw her sitting on her cute butt chatting with her friends...come on girl, I am a former bartender give me good service and I will hook ya up! The food: there were four of us, we split a soup, appetizer, and crab cake entree. it was plenty of food and this is my fave way to eat because you get to try different things. The soup, we had the cajun chowder...decent App...we got the crab pretzal this was actually awesome...but I would hope so for $16!! Honestly though it was very good. Entree, crab cakes....ehhh they were ok...nothing special for $30+...I wasn't to impressed. For the price, go to Jerry's...much better food and service!!

The best feature about this place is the location, but the food just doesn't cut it. Its mediocre and overpriced. We enjoyed the view but didn't even want to eat the leftovers we brought home. I'd recommend just going for drinks and finding somewhere else to eat.

You come here for the pier, not the food or the service. The food is mediocre and priced for tourists. I had high expectations for their crab cakes after a local recommended the place, but they were about average (as were the sides). We had arrived around 7pm on a weeknight and there was already a thirty minute wait to be seated on the pier. We were served by a somewhat snotty late highschool/early college student who kept forgetting to bring things to the table. Next time I'd skip the food and stick to sipping orange crushes at the bar on the pier.

Crab Cakes: Huge and tasty! Hush Puppies: Delicious with honey! Blue Point Oysters: Cold and fantastic! View of the Storm Across the Water: Transcendent! Drunken, loud, after-work-old-ladies at the bar next to our table: Obnoxious and super lame!
