Its a Panera, that is about 80% of the information you need. I go here regularly, the service is sometimes good and friendly. But when I order coffee and a bagel toasted to eat on site, I really do not like to get the cream cheese in a plastic tub then going over with my empty cup to a coffee urn. That makes me think Huh. this is not so much different that buying the bagel and going home and doing the rest. Which makes me think what is this costing relative to a dozen bagels and going home. Does not seem like a biz plan to me. Going Out means paying extra to ..... Go Out. Staying home is about saving money....Going to Panera is about paying extra and being home, a noisy home.

I come here to grab lunch pretty often. The food is always good and they're fairly quick at getting it ready to go. The cashier clerks can be slow at times, as are the people who made drinks. I would sometimes wait 10 minutes for a latte (I kid you not). It seems to have gotten a lot better in the past year, however. It can be hard to find a seat in the evenings, but it's a popular place so there's not much that can be done about that. Panera in general is a bit overpriced ($8 for the Thai chopped chicken salad!), but it's not a reflection on this particular location of course.

Back story: Panera rolled out some new menu items in 2013. Rather than spend the money on advertising and changing all the menu boards, they introduced it as a hidden menu. They are standard items, just not promoted items. I have ordered from this menu before with no problems. I ordered the "Power Mediterranean Chicken Salad" from the hidden menu. I don't know why it's powerful. It took a while to get my food. I received a salad with romaine lettuce, olives, mandarin oranges, Napa Almond Chicken Salad (chicken, diced celery, seedless grapes, almonds & our special dressing), and some kind of vinaigrette. I don't mean to insult anyone's tastes, but that doesn't even sound good and it's not a menu item. It took them a long time to come up with this abomination of flavors. I was standing there the whole time and no one asked me anything. I could have told them what was in it. I should have gotten a salad with romaine, spinach, bacon, diced eggs, tomatoes, chicken, olive oil and lemon juice. I took it back up to the counter and initially they were just like oh they gave you chicken salad and you wanted chicken. It took a long time for them to remake it. It was about 30 minutes from when I ordered til when I was eating. My office is really strict about lunch, we all take it at the same time and have to be back at a certain point. I still got a salad without lemon juice, but I was putting Tabasco on it anyway. It came with the most adorable olive oil packets and it had a very good, rich flavor. Here's what I would have liked to have happened: I order and receive a standard menu item with no substitutions. Barring that they could have asked me what was in it or made a different standard menu item. If that was too much, it would have been nice if they remade my order as a priority instead of taking their sweet time. I really love this hidden menu, so I'll be back anyway. They gave me bread even though I said no side when they asked, but that's a little thing and I just threw it away. The manage just needs to kick out those punks who buy a coffee at 10 AM, sit in a booth by themselves, and hang out til 2 PM. You aren't losing that much money on them and it's really annoying to squeeze four people at a two person table. One day, I'm just going to sit down with them and give no ...cares.

This Panera is no different than any Panera I have visited before. The line on Sunday mornings can be crazy long, but don't let that deter you. You can get through it very quickly. A note to Panera: I am said that the breast cancer awareness bagels are gone. They were so delicious. If you could bring them back, I would be most appreciative. Thank you.

Nothing beats reliability and comfort when it comes to a neighborhood spot. Good for breakfast, lunch, and dinner with excellent pastries and baked goods alongside inventive salads, soups, and sandwiches. A wonderful place to hang out and work with their free WiFi or to just grab your lunch and go. Popular with all ages and a spot where you are guaranteed to run into at least one person you know on each visit.

I've only been here once, but I think that was enough to give a decent review. The food, well, at least what I had was really good. I think I had the pepperoni and cheese...thing. Not sure what they call em' The set up is a little odd, but it's a decent place for a quick bite to eat. My only complaint is the constant crowds, but thats to be expected! I mean, it is downtown Silver Spring. And to the people complaining about not being able to study or work on their fancy computers: IT'S A PANERA BREAD! Not the public library or Borders. Who does work in a restaurant? Especially this one, of all places...come on people.

I don't like the lay out here. It feels backwards. Order to the right, pick up to the left, walk through the dining to find a seat. But everything you need like utensils, napkins, and drinks are behind you. *what is going on here?* Food here is the same as all the others, fresh, consistent, soup out of a bag. No surprises.

I love Papers bread so when I found out they had a shop right next to my hair style I was over elated by the news and yes...Cinnamon crunch bagel with hazelnut cream cheese and hazelnut coffee or green yea helps refresh you

Even though I gave the Columbia Heights location 1 star, I think this one deserves the same as well. The cashier I had today was SO rude. She just beckoned for me to come over. I was getting a cinnamon (coffee) crumb cake. She rang me up and then just handed me my change without a SINGLE word and then turned to just leave! *sound of record needle scratching* Hold up. What if I were to, say, get on the Metro with this cake. Does she seriously think I'm going to just carry around a huge box? Even if I am not getting on the Metro, isn't it customary to offer a bag? How hard is it to say, first of all, "Thank you" and then "Do you want/need a bag?" So I asked her for one. She got one while heaving a HUGE sigh and did one of those swooshing the bag loudly through the air and just handed it over the counter. I seriously wanted to say one of many things, including, "Don't be a [expletive]" or "Can you put it in there for me?" And after all that, the cake was pretty old - definitely not that-day fresh. Some of the powdered sugar had melted/crystallized into the cake and was gone. It was also soggier than the other one I'd gotten at another location. Plus, it didn't have a doily at the bottom of the box. I now see why my mom is obsessed with including doilies with any baked goods we give to others - it makes a definite difference in presentation! The aforementioned encounter may not seem like a big deal to any other customer, but I take offense to things like that. People like her leave a bad taste in my mouth, and all the holographic kitten stickers in the world on her nametag couldn't change that.

I love the soups and salads, but the hot sandwiches are sometimes too greasy. Also, if you come at lunch time, good luck finding a table. I am giving them four stars because of the baked-potato soup - so thick and creamy and just tasty. Plus, you can get combos of a soup and a sandwich, soup and a salad, or salad and a sandwich, which is nice (Einstein Bagel got rid of their similar combos last year which upset me).

I've been to Panera Bread a million times (mostly ones in NJ), and while most are fairly consistent - this one has some fairly big flaws. I was in town for a concert this past weekend, and before making the long drive back to NJ, my group decided to grab a quick brunch at Panera, since it was around 10AM. I'm not going to go into decor or atmosphere here - this is a fairly typical Panera - slightly overpriced food in a kinda-deli setting. No, the problem I had was with the utter breakdown of the service at this location. First off, the place wasn't all that mobbed. We're talking a moderate brunch crowd here, with no lines at the register. My friends ordered breakfast foods, I decided to go for my usual "pick 2" and got a soup with a sandwich, figuring it's not a complicated order. This location is unlike others I've been at, in that they didn't give me a buzzer or even ask for my name, instead going with "your number is #" on the receipt. I paid, walked over to the pickup counter, and that's when the waiting began. I kept thinking my order was ready, since the kitchen kept shouting numbers out to each other, leading to confusion at the pickup counter since they weren't using the name system. It took well about 15 minutes for my order to come out, with people who came in long after me getting theirs first. The sandwich and soup were as expected at Panera - decent but never thrilling. However, when it takes ~15 minutes for an order at what it essentially an "upscale fast food" restaurant, it's kind of inexcusable in my book. I wouldn't come back to this location, personally.

How I heard of this place: The first time I ever went to a Panera was in Chicago, Illinois, about ten years ago. My sister suggested it as a place to grab a quick bite, with yummy paninis. A few years later, I went back to a Panera, again in Chicagoland, when I attended the Baha'i National Convention and some delegates and I were inerested in going out for lunch. This is the first I'd heard of Panera in Maryland, let alone Silver Spring itself! Type of cuisine: Bread being their staple, Panera boasts quality in sandwiches, grilled, hot as well as being served cold, deli-style. To accompany one's sandwich or panini, patrons are invited to indulge in one of Panera's signature salads and soups, ranging from decadent and creamy, to light and fresh. No breakfast or lunch would be complete with the sweet indulgences, to which Panera pays special attention; pastries ranging from cookies to muffins and scones, cakes and brownies, are beautifully arrayed and presented behind the glass display case on raised plates and stands for your viewing enjoyment. As well, I'm certain, to entice those who were not in the mood for something sweet. Think again. Ambiance: Panera offers a comfortable, casual spot to dine alone or with friends and colleagues. The green and light birch tones throughout the establishment, give a sense of nature, while the clamboring of knives and dishes in the back bring in the air of an urban setting. Staff are friendly, greet you warmly from behind the cash register as you enter the establishment. Often, windows line the front and sides of the cafe, where walker-by can enjoy the tasty treats on the plates, in the hands and in the mouths of patrons as large bites are taken of sandwiches, colorful salads and warm soups. Booth as well as table-chair seating are availble throughout the establishment, with space between so as not to feel like you are in the conversation of your neighboring diners. "Our bakery-cafes are an everyday oasis. A place to gather with friends or enjoy a quiet moment alone. Comfortable, friendly, fashionable. A place to recharge and feel rejuvinated. Slip into one of our seriously comfy chairs and stay awhile." What I ordered: I often enjoy a panini when I am at Panera. This day was no different. After a two-mile walk and one hour of metro commuting, I was ready to partake of some quick energy and ordered a Signature Hot Panini, served on Panera's own, freshly grilled bread, the smoked turkey breast, smoked bacon, smoked cheddar and sun-dried tomato ale mustard grilled hot on their Artisan Three Cheese bread., ® with all-natural, antibiotic-free chicken, romaine lettuce, roasted corn, black beans, tortilla strips & BBQ ranch dressing, drizzled with BBQ sauce. The meal was served with my choice of potato chips or extra bread, of which, I opted for the thick-cut, crispy potato chips! My dining companion also went for hte U Pick 2 lunch special ($6.59), hers including a grilled Sierra Turkey sandwich (1/2), with smoked turkey breast, chipotle mayonnaise, field greens & red onions on Panera's Asiago Cheese Focaccia. To accompany the sandwich, my dining companion ordered a Broccoli Cheddar soup - chopped broccoli, shredded carrot and select seasonings simmered in a velvety smooth cheese sauce - with whole wheat bread on the side, to share with her darling 13-month old son. Our meals came with one free drink (normally, $1.59), which we could select from the foutain around the corner from the cashier. What I loved: I loved the fresh salad with roasted corn and BBQ sauce! The slight spice to the dressing and the thinly cut white breast meat of the chicken were perfectly paired with the roasted vegetables and sweet BBQ sauce. I also loved the no frills panini with an abundance of turkey and gooey, fried cheese throughout the bread and in the sandwich. The broccoli-cheddar soup looked and smelled perfect, though I did not have the opportunity (this time) to sample it. Why I loved it: The food is consistently good, the establishment often in a convenient spot and the space clean and welcoming. Perfect for light summer lunches, or hearty, comfort food in the winter months. Cost: Low to average ($6-$9 per lunch entree, sandwich, salad and/or a combination of the two)

Well Panera food is Panera food. I can't say anything bad about it. It's decent. This specific Panera gets 3 stars, due to attitude and the fact that they don't carry heavy cream. The service is kinda spotty. Some of the people are absolutely wonderful, but a few people suck. To give you an example - this morning, I came in and there were no people in line. There were about 5 people behind the counter meandering about; I placed my order for coffee, and do what I always do and wait by the coffee counter. When I walked over to the coffee counter, there were 2 people there. And they promptly left - I have no idea where. Well a few minutes later, I look up and noticed that there's a few of us waiting and there is still no-one behind the counter making any drinks. There were two people behind the cash register talking (there was no one in line), so I called over to them and said "excuse me, but there's no one here making coffee." Lady was nice enough and said "oh, then I'll make it." And she had this confused look on her face ('where the heck is the person supposed to be making coffee?') Well coffee maker appears a few minutes later, and he has this mean/insulted look on his face, like we shouldn't have pointed out that he was gone. Umm, hello, I need to get to work and the parking meter is running. It's inexcusable for people to not be doing work while people are waiting for stuff.

I really like this Panera Bread outlet in Silver Spring. The staff is always pleasant and one of the staff members even guesses which type of bagel I would like - I guess I have become a regular at this outlet? Nevertheless, the place is always clean and well maintained, and the coffee is regularly filled. Do get the Hazelnut Coffee with Sesame Bagel: a really good combination.

This Panera Bread location is always busy no matter what time you go. They are pretty quick with getting food out in a timely manner. When my s.o. was trying to decide what to order, they didn't make us feel rushed. Recently, had an issue where a to-go order was missing the side order. I called the number and both people I spoke to were apologetic and said they would make sure the manager knew about the issue and they would make up for it on my next visit. FYI I partially blame my s.o for making a confusing side order, who orders a sandwich with a side of french baguette?? (carb overload lol).

I've actually never ordered a meal here, but I stop in fairly regularly for a fruit cup, bagel, baguette, or a coffee and the staff is always very friendly. Their baguettes and bagels are always fresh and delicious!

Panera is a soundly better alternative to fast food and this outlet is a good one. Gets pretty busy during weekday lunch, but they seem to handle it well. Service during the lunch rush is efficient and the food quality holds up. It is what it is, the standard Panera menu, but that works for me.

I do not like green eggs. I like ham. I like eggs. I do not like green eggs. So why was my egg green? Egg yolk gone wrong folks. Basically, my ham, egg and cheese bagel was a sloppy little mess. The only thing they got right was the bagel and the melted cheese. The ham was cold and sloppily placed on my bagel and the eggs must have been fried previously and refrigerated, because the yolk has turned that odd green-gray color. I had to pick the whole piece off. The only thing I did like was the "fresh" lemonade. It did not taste freshly squeezed, but it was still really good, albeit a bit sweet for my taste. Definitely will never order anything here again unless it's a pastry or a smoothie. Keep it simple, folks. And don't eat green eggs.

Yes it's a chain. But SOMETIMES chains aren't all that bad. Panera makes me feel cozy. The atmosphere is casual and inviting. I can't tell you how many times I've used their free wifi. The you pick 2 salad and sandwich is the steal of a deal. I love the fuji apple chicken salad but the one in the you pick 2 is almost as big as the stand alone salad and the same price. It's almost like a free half sandwich. I like the Sierra turkey, frontega chicken or Cuban. You can ask to get any cold sandwich grilled (recently found this out). The frozen mocha coffee drink is also bomb. Overall I can't think of anything really bad about this place. In fact if I'm in a rush (but not so much to do takeout) this is my choice nearly every time. The service is also great and super fast. 5 stars for a chain? Yeah why not? Note: it can sometimes be hard to get a table at this location.

I've grabbed lunch here twice. Both times the food was great. The staff was friendly and the food came up quickly. The only draw back is seating as the place gets busy during lunch. The noise level can be on the loud side due to the place being busy.

I love salads from Panera but can NEVER find a place to sit at this location as everyone goes here and sets up their home office! I have seen people recording interviews, reading books, writing novels, grading papers.. pretty much doing everything BUT eating which is kind of frustrating for those of us that want to sit in Panera and actually eat their food! The workers do the best they can but its the people that think Panera is a second word for Personal Workplace!

I have to stop eating at this Panera. I keep going because it is so close, but I must stop now. I don't know what it is -- I can eat at various other Panera and not feel like this -- but for some reason every time I eat at the Silver Spring Panera I get sick. This most recent excursion involved the chicken pesto on ciabatta. I didn't even get through half of the sandwich before my stomach told me that it did not appreciate my culinary adventures. Later at work, it expressed its dissatisfaction some more. This is not a condemnation of the whole chain. Just this specific location.
Probably the worst Panera I've been to...only for the service and organization, really. Service is painfully slow and even with the line extending to the door with 8-10 people there is still only one person (wandering back and forth aimlessly to boot) taking care of the registers. No one behind the counter really seems to know what they're doing. Giving it one extra star since I like the food at Panera in general.

Panera in general is an okay place to grab soup and a sandwich. I had a tomato and mozerella (with sun-dried tomato pesto) panini sandwich for lunch today. It was very good and a decent size for $6-something. Their asiago bagel is my favorite, but if I am going to pay over a dollar for one bagel, then I would rather pay more and get one of their lemon poppyseed mini bundt cakes. I bought a Cobblestone pastry here once, and it was very stale tasting. Even the microwave couldn't help it! The store is in a good location - around the corner from the AFI. There are lots of folks sipping coffee with their heads buried in their laptops during the lunch hour. Not a bad place to hang out for a couple of hours.

Panera Bread is a nice and comfortable place. I came here for the first time at around 1pm on a Sunday; it was very crowded, in that it was hard to find an empty table, but I managed to do that (I came in a party of two). The prices are a little high in comparison to prices for similar items offered by other businesses, but the smoothies, pastries, and salads are good!

Great place for free wifi. Down side is too many laptops and too few wall plugs. Also good for having a group of friends to play table games while having a lite snack.

OK, this is a chain and there is not much difference between one and another of its locations. So I'm putting up what is basically the same review for the three locations I really know. And it's really based on a composite of my experiences at all three. I've never actually had lunch here, but I assume the same comments would apply as at the Chevy Chase location. Tasty soups, acceptable salads if you get one of the "signature" salads, but small portions if you do the "You Pick Two" soup + salad combo, though you pay almost as much as for a full lunch elsewhere. Three stars for lunch, maybe even two. Now if I'm going to have a cup of tea and a pastry, on the other hand, this place shines. The pastries are delicious, better quality than, say, Starbucks, and cost only a little more (unlike Quartermaine, where there is a considerable price premium). The tea is from bags, but it's Republic of Tea, one of the best quality teas in bag form, and actually very much cheaper than Starbucks, while you can refill for free (and not just more hot water; you can actually get new tea bags -- you fill your own cup). So tea and a pastry together run you less than Starbucks, but you get better pastry, and both better tea and more of it! Five stars for the place as a tea-and-pastry stop, even if only three for a lunch place, and therefore four altogether.

This place has pretty good service, compared to other Panera Breads. They are pretty quick with taking orders, and getting the order correct. I love the Iced Chai Latte there, and the Broccoli cheddar soup (yuMMM). Sign up for a reward card, and you can get free drinks, free pastries, or discounts off your next order! Oh and FYI they have free WIFI.

$6.14 (inc tax) for a tuna salad sandwich with soggy bread and rubbery pickle means I won't be back here again although I've found other Panera's much better. Busy and crowded lunch time place gets a lot of traffic and I think they take us for granted. I think I got a sandwich someone else didn't pick up or worse, maybe returned, which explains also the crumpled bag. Of course,I was in a hurry, and they were quick, so I didn't realize this until off in my car down the road hurrying to an appointment so ate it anyway, soggy bread and all. And what's with the teeny-weeny bag of chips? Also, had to pay for metered parking spot so this was a further disappointment as I had gone round the block to drive into this difficult to get to (if you are in a car) spot. This is really a walk-in for local people working or shopping nearby. I should have gone to Subway across the street or PotBelly further in the mall.

Panera is usually the safe choice: great quality food, freshly baked bread and a wide variety of choices for every kind of hunger imaginable. It's fast food, but it's good fast food. And as far Panera goes the food lives up to the expectations: reliable and fairly tasty. I'll spare the detailed description most are fairly familiar with Panera. The issue I had came down to service. Panera had fairly light traffic and was fairly empty when we arrived. While looking over the menu staff kept asking if we were ready to order. Normally, not a problem. I like good customer service, and told them "We need a minute while we look over the menu." Yet every 10-15 seconds, the cashiers kept repeating that they could take our order. We'd tell them we're still looking over the menu and will let them know when we're ready. And once again, 10-15 seconds later, they'd ask again. After the third time this became slightly aggravating. After the fourth, I started to wonder why we were being rushed to order, ESPECIALLY since we were the only people there. We weren't even in line! Unlike most Panera this one does not ask for your name or issue an order pager to let you know your food is ready. You get a number on the bottom of your receipt, and go wait in line. Easy enough. Panera is usually swift at getting orders out even when crowded. After 10 minutes, I was starting to wonder where our food was. I saw an order that looked like ours, but I wasn't sure (I'd never gotten a breakfast Power sandwich before). Our number was never called though. After several minutes, I finally asked what our order status was. Oh, it's the food that's been sitting on the counter for 5 minutes? If I'd have known I'd have grabbed the food, but I'm not the kind to make assumptions that something is mine. The other people waiting with me heard the number called either. Overall, the problem came down to service and communication. Other people in my group (Matt G.) experienced the exact same problem. Not a terrible Panera, but oddly frustrating.

Attitude. That about sums it up. Where else can you get a simple bowl of soup, a turkey sandwich, pay for both your meal and parking, fight traffic in and out of the place... AND get a ration of attitude to go with your dining experience? This Panera location has it all. Particularly the folks behind the food prep counter - George especially who is not only incapable of reading a turkey sandwich order, but then takes offense when you ask for the requested ingredients to be added.

I recently moved to downtown Silver Spring and was happy to see that a Panera Bread was literally across the street from my new apartment. Everything about this Panera is just like every other one in the country (i travel A LOT for work... been to a gazillion different panera's) EXCEPT... The management could care less that they have a line to (or out) the door yet people who buy nothing sit at their tables for hours (seriously). Sometimes I'll come in the morning to get coffee and then 5 hours later i'll come back to get lunch or something and there are the same people, mostly looking homeless, taking up seats where people who are buying more than a cup of coffee could sit down for a few minutes and eat. I don't care if people sit for hours, but i do care that if i come to get dinner i literally cannot stay because there are five 4 people tables being taken up by 1 person with a bottle of water. Why isn't there any regulation? I went for lunch today and there were two girls sitting next to me at a 4 person table who walked in, sat down, and just sat there for the length of time i was there and were STILL there (still with no purchase) when i left. They DO however, make sure they take your plate away as you put the last bite in your mouth. Jesus... what about the guy next to me, who is here every day, who never makes a purchase? Can't you rush him out? I'm pretty sure that there is no law that statesyou have to allow people in your establishment for hours on end and let them stay at the expense of your real customers. I've seen people walk out because there were no tables. But there are no tables because of all the people who think this is a public park or a homeless shelter. I wish the management would grow some balls and do right by their PAYING customers.

I used to go here all of the time. My friend Marilyn was a manager, and though I'm not sure if she still works here, she runs a tight ship. Everything came out very fast and very much well made, even if I had a bunch of specifications on the orders. The calm atmosphere is great for studying or vegging out on the computer for an afternoon. This is a Panera bread with a little extra soul in the form of people who work there.

Place gets pretty busy during lunch but the staff know how to move the lines. Breakfast rush is never busy, usually empty. Staff are the friendliest Panera people I've ever encountered, unlike their counter parts in the Fall Grove location. Iced Green tea is mandatory with any meal unless it's breakfast then it's an iced caramel latte. All bagels are good...I could eat their asiago bagel alone with no cream cheese but my go to bagel is their chocolate chip bagel with hazel nut cream cheese...nutella anyone?!? I've always wanted to try their baked egg souffles but they look so complicated to eat and I'm always on the go. Cookies especially toffee nut cookie is off the hook...as well as their muffins especially pumpkin!!! Love Panera Bread just tried their broccoli cheddar soup by accident when the guy gave me the soup instead of my sandwich.

I'm sort of going out on a limb here by writing a review of a chain sandwich shop, but why not. The Panera Bread chain is one of those places that we usually stop in for lunch when we're on the highway, the logic being that it has to be healthier than regular fast-food joints while still being a known quantity. However, there are times when we frequent our local PB right here in Silver Spring. The Silver Spring location is without doubt a busy place. It's rare to walk in and not find a line of some length, and finding an empty table can sometimes be a real challenge. Overall, I'd rate the quality of their sandwiches and soups as fairly good. My wife often gets their salads and generally seems pleased with them. I just wish that when I say "hold the pickle" they actually hold the pickle! Bottom line on this one: it's your run of the mill Panera Bread, although don't be surprised if you have to wait in line longer than usual. Those of you looking for something different in Silver Spring might want to head south a couple of blocks and check out Kefa Cafe - a far more personal level of service and fairly good sandwiches.

Good soup, yummy desserts, free wi-fi...It's hard to go wrong. The only problem is that it can get crowded even at off-peak times.

Across the street from 1 Discovery Place, this Panera location is great for a quick breakfast before starting the work day. Aside from that, it's like any other Panera location. Awesome breads but dining options are overpriced for what they are. Sit down restaurant prices with QSR service. A mismatch.

I came here for breakfast for a whole month straight. There is a large selection of bagels and cream cheese which are all quite delicious. The atmosphere is nice and I can do a little bit of business while I'm eating. Overall, it's a really good spot for a sit-down breakfast or even a quick to-go order if you're in a rush. I'd give it 5 stars if the prices were a little lower, though.

Yesterday, on my way to class, I stopped at the closest coffee shop I could see, Panera. I'm more of a Starbucks girl, but don't know Silver Spring and was desperate. So, I ordered a coffee and handed the girl my coffee mug. I asked if she could give it a quick rinse first. She rinsed my cup and handed it back to me. I asked her if I am supposed to give it to the girl making the drinks and she looked confused. I said I wanted my coffee in that mug. (like I bring in dirty dishes for other people to clean!) She looked at me like I had 6 heads and said we charge extra for that, but didn't know for certain. She had to get a manager. By this time I can see the girl has already made my drink in a frickin paper cup. Manager comes out and asks what is wrong. I said I wanted my coffee drink made in my travel mug, like every other coffee shop does. He says we don't do that here. Not to fret, he told me he could pour the drink from the paper cup into my mug. I said that defeats the point. I'm trying not to use the paper cup in the first place. (first principle in recycling is reducing) As far as the additional charges. The manager told me that since I ordered a latte I wouldn't be assessed an additional charge, but had I ordered a regular drip coffee they charge extra...for using my own mug. Duly noted! Coffee ended up not being good and was far too weak.

Panera Bread is a great place for delicious sandwiches. It sure beats the bland and boring Potbelly's sandwiches! The bread is wonderful, the combination of ingredients refreshing, and a good number of their sauces/dressing tasty. My only pet peeve about this particular Panera Bread location is that it always seems packed with people who spend hours there working on their laptop or studying. As a result it's often hard to find a seat. I think there should be a sign up there to limit the amount of time you hang around the place when it is crazy busy, as it usually is at lunch, in the evenings, and on the weekends.

love the bread and soups. i am a big fan of the bread bowls, bread filled with soup. my favorite soup is the vegetarian black bean. they always have one or two vegetarian soups on the menu. there is a daily schedule for soups, though i don't know what it is. they also have free wifi. yesterday i got the black bean soup and a classic cafe salad. both were very good. you can either get a half or whole salad, i got the whole salad and it is big. my wife got the half salad it is maybe 1/3 the size of the whole. there were no complaints on the food. parking is sometime a little difficult here. the restaurant sits on the corner of georgia and colesville roads. there is a parking lot there but it is small and usually filled, especially on the weekends and evenings. we ended parking in the parking garage about a half a block away. and it is about a block and half from the silver spring metro station. since it is right in the middle of downtown silver spring there are a lot of shops and other restaurants in the area. one of our favorite places is right next door, AFI. a great movie theater that shows a lot of independent and older films. it is a must if you are in the area.

What can I say about this Panera.... Firstly, i do come here quite a bit for lunch so my service here has varied from visit to visit. But also, i think it may be that they recognize me by now and what I order. The first several times I came here for lunch, they would consistently get my order wrong, bread not toasted and putting a tomato on my sandwich. But ever since that visit where the manager stepped in, fixed my order and gave me a refund for the meal it has been great. Service is still at time slow, sluggish, and can be attitudy. Really depends on when you go, and who you get at the register, Ms. Peppy who probably drank one too many expressos, or Ms. Whatchu Want?? **eye roll** mmm... Hmmmm... when you don't want tomatoes on your sandwich. Food is pretty good when they get it right. It can be a little pricy however for someone like me who feels that half a sandwich and a small soup is like a snack. I personally like the Napa Almond Chicken Salad Sandwich and the Broccoli Cheddar Soup. **Note: More Chicken Salad, less bread. You take two bites from middle of the sandwich and that's basically all the chicken salad gone. Lunch time is also a very crowded, long lines, and just a very busy time. Seems like people conduct interviews, do homework, and camp out there with their laptops because of the WiFi. Discounts. This establishment is NOT military friendly. They are however, police and firefighter friendly. Guess military members are just chopped liver, fighting for nothing overseas so you can do whatever you want over here. Something called Freedom i think? Lastly... this is Panera in general, but does anyone else have this "Panera Card"? Can you tell me what the point of this card is if you aren't earning any points or rewards when you swipe it with your purchases? Why even bother using the card? Just FYI... as I was writing my review, I initially had it at 4 stars, then downgraded it to 3 stars as i went back thinking about everything, getting upset all over again. Overall, a 3-4 star rating mark is very appropriate and fair. I like the food, but service is very important to me and so is being military friendly. Gotta support the troops Panera. Many serve and die overseas so you can overprice your soups and salads. Props do go out to the manager who took care of me that visit and hooked it up. HE understands no tomato means no tomato. Thank you.

Staff is always so nice and it's kept clean. Never really have to wait to order and to get my food. And the food tastes as expected and well. Sometimes I'll indulge myself and my husband with cheese Danish which is delicious. Only thing is that they should advocate for their customers to get like 30 minute parking in front of their store rather than that 1 hour 24/7 metered parking.

Panera Bread in the downtown Silver Spring area -was- a place I frequented multiple times a week due to the convenience of the location and I have not had any bad experiences when it comes to the food. The atmosphere is always right for getting work done as most of the tables are occupied with customers having meetings, catching up on school work over coffee, finishing up planning for the upcoming workweek, etc. I never have had any issues, let alone been spoken to unprofessionally by any of the staff until today which left me very offended and uncomfortable as a Panera patron. Approached by the General Manager, Amilcar Aleman, while sitting in a window seat table by myself, proceeded to explain to me that "Panera bread was not a bus stop, and if I planned on catching the bus this was not the place to wait for it, and make a run for the door once the bus comes." WHAT!? Immediately uncomfortable. Now whatever was going through Mr. Aleman's mind to even say something like that to me completely caught me off guard considering 1) I was not "catching the bus" because I live within walking distance of this location 2) I clearly was in the middle of work as my moleskin, pen, and book were resting on the table-- obviously planning my big EXIT for the front door! 3)Why did he feel that was an appropriate comment to make, not just to me, but in general to any customer. After receiving false contact information for the District Manager, Garth, smirking as he gave me an arbitrary phone number, I contacted another branch (Wheaton) to see if this was standard procedure. Of course, the answer was no and they were extremely apologetic on behalf of Mr. Aleman who continued to pretend that he did not need to address me, walking off during conversation. An associate working the register also apologized on behalf of Mr. Aleman, which shouldn't have to take place either considering he's the General Manager. I can only hope that the District Manager, Garth, handles this situation, and that other customers who might not be voicing occurrences as stated above, know that it is not okay! My first and hopefully last bad experience with Panera Bread.

I'm a Panera frequent diner card holder because I often go for the bear claw and the cream of broccoli/broccoli & cheese soup. Of course I don't eat these together... I think the broccoli soup is very good, not too cheesy or creamy but enough. The bear claw is for people who love croissants and almonds. High in calories so eat half now, and half in a few hours after walking a lot... or you can be like me and eat the whole thing and then walk it off the rest of the day. Salads are fresh and so are the sandwiches. Have not been disappointed yet with what I've eaten there so far. It's a good place to get relatively healthy (depends on what you choose) food when you don't have much time.

A Panera is a Panera, I suppose. But this place could use a good deep clean. There was griminess everywhere. Lots of dead flies along the wall panels. Also, if there is such a species as "Starbucks hobo" the "Panera hobo" would give them a run for their money. Seeing the sights here will make it hard to keep down that ice coffee.

I LOVE panera. I wish I could eat here everyday. They make me smile. What else? It's fresh. The green tea is light and puts a kick in my step. The green smoothie is power--the carrot cake cupcakes are succulent. If you want your life to feel better, if you had a hard day--go to panera. A nice server will greet you and add some sunshine to your day.

For the most part, this Panera is ok. It's located on the corner of Colesville Rd. & Georgia Ave., so it's always busy. Most of my experiences here have been pleasant. The staff is friendly and work to get the line moving (which is appreciated for a busy location. When I used to work in the area, on occasion, we'd place catering orders at this location and they didn't disappoint. The order was always correct and arrived on time. When planning a big event, that was one less headache to have to worry about. My only complaint is that on several occasions when I've ordered a BBQ Chicken Salad (my Panera meal by default), the chicken in the salad had been frozen solid. Imagine my surprise biting into something frozen solid when it's expected to be ready to eat. A BIG disappointment. Other than that, this location is A-Ok.

I pass this location every other week on the way to my hair done, so on this particular Saturday, I decided to stop in and get some breakfast. I do not like the parking lot however. I came in from Colesville Road and had to make a U turn to get to the location as well as go around the block on my way out. Its a little convoluted, but I have it now. Upon entry I was immediately greeted by a nice young woman who took our order. My daughter wanted a grilled cheese and I ordered a sausage, egg and cheese on croissant. My food was delicious. My child is a sucker for a grilled cheese, so her opinion is invalid to me. Either way, this location is awesome. Just very difficult to get in and out of.

I love the bread bowl soup there. Salad is ok but too much for lunch. I didn't expect to be crowded like that -- waited for more than 20 minutes. One more thing, the rotten apple in the pick two choice ruined my lunch. Anyway, I will still visit panera for the health food and soup.

(3)Kat L.
(3)Cheynnie P.
Good & quick! Chick at the register had an attitude so 4 stars!

Sometimes on Saturday's I would stop in when I am in the area. The service is pretty good and quick great seating.

(5)Michael L.
Meh. Spacious and good vibe. A bit messy, but nothing overtly dramatic. Food and drinks are typical- one of the better locations
(3)Dave L.
Good sandwiches at reasonable prices. That's what I come here for and so far that's what I've gotten each time I've come here.
(4)G C.
(4)Natalie M.
I've actually never ordered a meal here, but I stop in fairly regularly for a fruit cup, bagel, baguette, or a coffee and the staff is always very friendly. Their baguettes and bagels are always fresh and delicious!
(4)Brian W.
Panera is a soundly better alternative to fast food and this outlet is a good one. Gets pretty busy during weekday lunch, but they seem to handle it well. Service during the lunch rush is efficient and the food quality holds up. It is what it is, the standard Panera menu, but that works for me.
(4)Tara L.
(2)Ryan M.
(5)Jhia B.
Decided to eat here for lunch and got my usual BBQ chicken flatbread sandwich and was greeted by Kevin who was a friendly smiling face and gave excellent customer service. It's nice to see someone smiling while they are assisting you.
(5)Desiree R.
I've grabbed lunch here twice. Both times the food was great. The staff was friendly and the food came up quickly. The only draw back is seating as the place gets busy during lunch. The noise level can be on the loud side due to the place being busy.
(4)LaToya E.
(3)Nate H.
Worst customer service I've ever received from the countless Panera locations I've been to around the country.
(2)Carrie F.
Huge inside but the staff is very slow to whip down tables. It served its purpose of feeding me & giving me free wifi during a recent business trip.
(3)Thomas W.
(2)Natalie M.
Panera Bread in Silver Spring is my favorite grab-and-go breakfast spot. I love the ample-sized, fresh baked bagels and the wonderful selection of cream cheeses at this bakery-café restaurant. Panera's breakfast sandwiches taste good too, but I only get them when I want something more filling than my usual bagel and cream cheese. I never visit Panera without ordering a cup of coffee. I love the taste and aroma. The hazelnut coffee is my favorite! The staff does a great job of refilling the coffee canisters whenever the coffee runs low, so you never have to wait a long time for a cup of your favorite brew. The place always looks clean, quiet, and inviting in the mornings and there is plenty of seating. The staff is courteous and attentive and I never have to wait a long time to place my order -- something I appreciate when I'm trying to grab breakfast to go at 7am in the morning.

(3)Timothy M.
love the bread and soups. i am a big fan of the bread bowls, bread filled with soup. my favorite soup is the vegetarian black bean. they always have one or two vegetarian soups on the menu. there is a daily schedule for soups, though i don't know what it is. they also have free wifi. yesterday i got the black bean soup and a classic cafe salad. both were very good. you can either get a half or whole salad, i got the whole salad and it is big. my wife got the half salad it is maybe 1/3 the size of the whole. there were no complaints on the food. parking is sometime a little difficult here. the restaurant sits on the corner of georgia and colesville roads. there is a parking lot there but it is small and usually filled, especially on the weekends and evenings. we ended parking in the parking garage about a half a block away. and it is about a block and half from the silver spring metro station. since it is right in the middle of downtown silver spring there are a lot of shops and other restaurants in the area. one of our favorite places is right next door, AFI. a great movie theater that shows a lot of independent and older films. it is a must if you are in the area.

(4)Haroun K.
(2)Naa P.
(5)Brandon B.
(3)Crystal H.
(4)Mingfei D.
I love the bread bowl soup there. Salad is ok but too much for lunch. I didn't expect to be crowded like that -- waited for more than 20 minutes. One more thing, the rotten apple in the pick two choice ruined my lunch. Anyway, I will still visit panera for the health food and soup.
