This fro yo is awesome!

Another in the endless crop of frozen yogurt joints where you serve yourself, this particular FroZenYo had actual vanilla custard on offer. I'm in! Toppings bar wasn't massive (not much elbow room!) but it was well stocked and quite tidy. Two of the staff were having a very loud discussion as to where one of them was planning to have his dinner. The nearby Potbelly seemed to be the choice.

I was rather impressed with the variety of flavored offered at this little shop in downtown Silver Springs. After a filling brunch, my boyfriend, his friend, and his friend's wife made our way here for a quick sweet treat. I noticed the majority of the flavors offered (chocolate, vanilla, birthday cake, mint chocolate chip, cookies and cream, red velvet cake, and dulce de leche to name a few) were fat free. In addition to the fat free flavors, they also offered vanilla custard. The cookies and cream was quite tasty and while I didn't add any toppings, I did notice they had most of the standards, including M&Ms, Reese's pieces, brownies, cheesecake bites, strawberries, and health bar crunch. What I found different here than anywhere else I have experienced- the hot fudge and hot caramel are free (you can add it after you pay if you so desire). I don't foresee myself being in Silver Springs often, however, if I do find myself here again and in need of a sweet treat, I know where I can find a tasty one!

They had strawberry boba yesterday as well as mochi toppings! Made my day! Stay away from heavy toppings like strawberries and pineapple chunks. Remember you are paying by the ounce.

I love my froyo and this place was awful. I always get tart (or original) flavor with lots of fruit toppings. The tart flavor here was so odd, tasted more like frozen custard than it does froyo. The fruits were not fresh, and the counter was messy, it was obviously not kept very clean. I was really disappointed since this was the only froyo place near our apartment.
(2)Electric B.
I love this yogurt place! They have a different variety of stuff and there's a lot of toppings that I choose. I mainly go for berries and a few cereal. I'll go for either a berry or a soury yogurt. The customer service was great. They offered us a FrozenYo 7 trip card where you can get 6 and 1 free. It was awesome! The place is also clean too.

My girlfriend fell on a wet floor in the Silver Spring location last night. I slipped and did not fall, but she did fall and no one even bothered to ask if she was alright. I asked a staff member to put a warning/safety cone out on the wet floor and that was not done. Luckily she is not seriously injured, but her tail bone is sore today from the fall. I think they should train the staff to respond better to this kind of situation. The yogurt was good, as always, but service was pretty awful!

Strawberry Short Cake Froyo $5 (5/5 NOMs) Nothing short about that! Its time for some refreshing froyo on a hot day in Silver Spring, DC's suburbs. They are really into themed and complimentary toppings. This time its all about making your own Strawberry Short Cake. Get some strawberries, super soft short cake and strawberry flavored froyo. It really tasted just like eating a real thing, so soft and sweet, perfect dessert on a hot or even cold day. We decided to upgrade this a bit with some Kit Kat and M&Ms. Can never have enough extra sweetness. Apple and Pumpkin Pie Flavors (5/5 NOMs) Its pie within a pie, within a pie, pieception! Apple and Punkin pie froyo flavors with real Apple and Pumpkin pie! I was completely surprised to find real pieces of apple and pumpkin pies. Now that's a topping. Yea we went and did this. Can you handle this froamazingness? What a great fall flavors combination. It was like eating super chilled pies with more pies!! So dangerous to have one right near us. Just have to go for more.

This place needs to fix their yogurt machines -- I tried three different flavors and they all dispensed quickly like a can of Reddi-wip. So much for sampling flavors - I felt too guilty to "sample" what ended up being an outpouring of three flavors I didn't really want (cake batter, pistachio, coconut). The textures were strangely foamy (not creamy), and the flavors were artificial-tasting. My friends thought the same. Yogurt is $.49/oz - they have 16 different flavors, a wide selection of toppings, and "free" hot fudge and hot caramel toppings. I tried the hot caramel and sadly it was pretty watery. Not a fan.
(2)Angel M.
I'm updating my review since they've since solved my problem of not having their original yogurt available. There truly must be crack in the plain tart - it's the best yogurt I've ever had. Better than Pinkberry. I can't get enough! The lines move quickly and the cashiers are nice and friendly. I'm docking one star because the toppings bar needs more variety, should be cleaner, and have better quality fruit. But seriously, the plain tart is amazing on it's own. Try it!
(4)James R.
Pronounced by me as FroZENyo (no motorcycle maintenance required). I'm sorta obsessed with this place. Coconut FroYo with pound cake, some walnuts and whipped cream with a pair of cherries for the win! Add a water for a few cents more! :-)
(5)Susan W.
Love the tart yogurt, creamier than many other places, almost like ice cream. Other flavors I tried were not as good. Cheap water which is what brought me into the store the first time. Hint: They have these wildlife poker chip gift card things, you buy one and you can use it for double the amount you paid. Just cannot use it the same time you buy it.
(4)Sara O.
Yummy, creamy delicious supposedly nonfat or close to 98% fat free yogurt, but it is so creamy and so good that I am convinced they are lying. Love this place. $0.30 water and great toppings. I would say it is better than pinkberry
(5)Suki L.
Yes FroZenyo is known for great flavors but this location needs a health safety inspection STAT!!! The floors are filthy, the outside of the machines looked like they had been wiped down with a dirty rag filled with yogurt, the bathroom wasn't any better and the customer service could improve I'm sure if they didn't hire kids to work there. My point you ask.... If you don't care in the front of the house then you must not care in the back either! Presentation and cleanliness is everything when it comes to food of any kind!
(1)Lizi C.
For self service frozen yogurt bar, FroZenYo is as good as it gets. There is a plethora of flavors to choose from; the difficulty is making the decision. I like how the majority are fat free while the others are 98% fat free. This froyo is slightly airy and thick (both a plus in my book). Contrast that to watery and icey which is sometimes a problem with froyo. The condiment bar is well stocked and appears clean. The interior of FroZenYo is also clean and well stafffed. 29 cent water!? At first I thought they were charging for tap water or something ridiculous. Nope 29 cent bottles of water my friends! Really! As if that wasn't generous enough, there is free hot chocolate fudge topping. WHAT?!?!?!?! The price is right. I got a monsterous bowl of froyo and ample toppings for about $4.25. I regretted it after, but not during. Next time, and believe me there will be many next times, hopefully I can control myself a little better. This is as good as it gets for froyo!
(5)Katherine K.
I want to give this place more than one star.... I really do.... But I just cannot bring myself to.... I came here on a Saturday night and it was packed, as expected. We were able to snag a table and pulled up some extra chairs. But the constant shoulder-to-shoulder and elbowing become annoying rather quick. The one worker was rather lethargic and would have rather been in the rings of hell than working that evening. (And what kind of business only keeps one girl staffed on a busy Saturday night?!) Now onto the yogurt... It fell flat, I mean really flat. I mixed a few flavors, cheese cake, mixed berry, and vanilla. The machine pouring of the yogurt is very inconsistent. That seems like a minor annoyance but it was a major issue. One flavor was beyond slow, another burst out providing much more than I wanted. I ended up scooping off over half and throwing it away because I did not want that much. If one in every two customers did the same thing I did, there is a lot of profit being literally thrown away. The yogurt also tasted off. One flavor was overly rich and thick, other did not even taste of yogurt. The mixed berry was all icy. It was as if there was no yogurt in it at all... It tasted like flavored ice (like Italian ice or a slushie). It was really strange. The toppings are not fresh. The strawberries looked like they were cut 3 days earlier, if they were cut in store at all. I cannot recall the other toppings, the fruits all looked old and soggy. For the amount of traffic the store sees, I expect the toppings to be fresh. Over all, I will not be back. Even if I have a yogurt craving and happen to be stuck in the area, I will avoid this place at all costs. Yuck.
(1)Warapoj R.
ice cream so melting
(3)LaTonya F.
They have the best inexpensive yogurt!
(5)Erika F.
This place is good. Great selection and free hot fudge make me a very happy girl. But they need to work on the toppings bar. Please don't put an entire snickers bar there and expect plastic spoons to do the trick of chopping them down in the cup. Chop your toppings into bite-size pieces and you'll get 5 starts from me.
(4)Timothy C.
OK, the yogurt tasted fine, but there was just no consistency in the texture. I grabbed a bowl, and pulled the handle under the Cookies and Cream flavor, and a thick, wide frozen yogurt stream slooooooowwwwwllyyyy flowed out of the spout. It took a while, but, whatever, right? So then I thought "Mmmhmm, a touch of cheesecake yogurt sounds good as well" so I pulled THAT handle and FREAKIN NIAGARA FALLS of cheesecake not-really-frozen yogurt IMMEDIATELY fills my ENTIRE CUP! It just shot out there like a fire hose! What the heck, FroZenYo! Not pleased. But I bet if they fixed that I would have liked it. The toppings were solid but nothing special. Pull it together, YO!
(2)Ebonne B.
A cupful of frozenyo is a fun diversion while shopping or checking out one of the many functions out by the plaza and this location delivers some pretty good flavors and a nice selection of toppings. A bottle of water is only 29 cents which is a godsend during the dog days of summer. However, some of the flavors come spurting out of the self-serve machines and unfortunately that isn't a once-in-awhile thing - it's rather commonplace and there's no telling if the flavor you choose will play nicely or come out with a defensive spray attack. Also, weekends at this location can make it a bit of a chaos zone between the strollers, hyperactive children, hyperactive teenagers, and adults looking to curb their frozenyo cravings.
(3)Sara N.
Very so-so. No sampling cups available. No one to offer you the cups. No water available. Tried two yogurt flavors: berry and cheesecake. The berry was pretty good, but the cheesecake tasted gross. Dispenser poured out too quickly. It was an August afternoon and flies were coming in and occasionally sitting on the fruit. Not a ton of toppings and always crowded. You can do better....
(1)M M.
The frozen yogurt is OK, but I've tasted better. Most of the flavors are watery and the yogurt starts melting as soon as you walk out of the store. I'm also not a fan of the tip cups at the cashier register, which just make me uncomfortable. (We are supposed to leave a tip for taking my cash and giving me change? Sorry, that's just part of the job description, not above and beyond expectations.) The only thing I like is that it's self-serve and that there are lots of toppings to choose from. Staff is pretty friendly. For those people wanting samples - you can pour a bit in your cup and taste it with your spoon, according to the clerks. Just ask them.
(3)Stephanie S W.
Yum - when I first started eating frozen yogurt there was just the 'tart' flavor... now there are about 20 amazing flavors to choose from. I recommend taro, pistaccio, strawberry banana, and the classic tart! I like to add mochi, sliced almonds and strawberries... tasty!!
(5)Dee B.
Definitely some of the creamier froyo I've had. The flavors I choose, chocolate and cappuccino, were nothing to write home about, though. Nice touch that they have hand sanitizers everywhere.
(3)A. C.
Not worth it.. They don't taste like frozen yogurt it's watery and tastes like water + yogurt too. Go to Sweet Frog or Tutti Fruiti instead. My brother said this place wasn't good and I should have listened to him! :(
(2)Deb G.
for under $4, you can get a good size helping of frozen yogurt and your choice of topping. My favorite is cake batter, although the dulce du leche, taro, and the original tart are also quite good. Their fresh fruit toppings are almost always good looking, and have a nice selection of candies and cookies for your sweet tooth. I go for the fruit and mochi, then load up on the free caramel and hot fudge after paying. Which, I realize, totally negates the fat-free froyo and the fresh fruit. But who cares? They get mad bonus points for having ridiculously cold AC, which I've enjoyed during the recent hot days of summer.

When returning to the DC area recently after a 2 year hiatus, there was one place on my list that I wanted to stop a few times: FroZen Yo. I first discovered this place when visiting a couple of years ago during the Cherry Blossom Festival on a very hot day. I needed some refreshing froyo to cool off, and thanks to the Yelp app on my phone, I was led to the nearest one. It was some of the best froyo I had ever tasted, and I even introduced it to a friend who lived nearby and had somehow never heard of it. I instantly got her hooked, while I went through withdrawal after leaving DC. On my recent return trip, she mentioned how they had a few new locations- one being in Silver Spring, where I was going to be staying. I was quite excited to hear this; so much so, that I went the first night I got there, the day after...and everyday I was there until I left! Obsessive? Maybe, but it's delicious and too hard to stay away from! They have a variety of non-fat, no-sugar, etc. flavors, sure to please everybody. And for 39 cents/oz and free hot fudge/caramel?! That's unheard of in the froyo world (well at least where I'm from)! So many flavors to choose from, I usually fill my cup with a hodgepodge of 5-6 flavors because it's too hard to choose! Give in already, go give it a try!!
(5)Eric C.
Go ahead and sign me up, I'm a fan of FroZenYo in Silver Spring. I've been here a couple times already and have tried the Vanilla, Banana Cream, and Cheesecake yogurt flavors; I approve of each flavor with no hesitation. Imagine yourself with a Vanilla Frozen Yogurt sprinkled with toppings such as M&Ms, Heath Bar, walnuts and syrup, chocolate chips, and a blob (yeah...a blob) of hot fudge. Frozen Yogurt is cheap here even with the loaded toppings; I usually don't spend more than $4. Cost per ounce of frozen yogurt is $.44. This specific location has a clean environment, and the line is never long no matter what day or time you come here. Oh yeah, don't forget the 29 cent 16 oz. bottled water. Man...tell me another place that has a deal like that, other than water you might get from a water fountain that might not even be clean. I'll give FrozenYo the four stars that it deserves. It's a solid option for Froyo within Silver Spring area.
(4)Jeffrey M.
$5.30 for a cone? Are they NUTS? I had half a mind to leave it with the cashier. Biggest rip-off I've dealt with in a year. And the Mint Chocolate Chip had no chocolate chip in it. First & last time I'll ever patronize this chain.
(1)Michele T.
The worst froyo ever. I didn't think it was possible to mess up frozen yogurt but they found a way. I tried most of the flavors and they were either too thick or slightly watery. Although there's a large selection, it's not worth it. Go to Ben & Jerrys down the street.
(1)Jamie D.
Friendly service but yogurt tasted like bland suds. Had the coconut, cookies n cream (I think), and pistachio. Sample cups would be helpful to others because I won't be back.
(1)Modyssey G.
I went here with family, including my two pre-teen nieces who had to show me the ropes. Can I just say this place made me feel old? I don't know if I was tired or just being a space case, but I was confused and felt lost when I walked in. The borderline obnoxious bright lights and Justin Bieber blaring from the sound system made me feel disoriented. An employee greeted us, but she was standing in front of the sign with instructions on how the store worked (grab bowl, fill with yogurt flavor of choice, add toppings, proceed to checkout/weighing station). I felt old because I needed the instructions to function in FroZenYo...sad. Anyway, after my I'm-almost-30-and-I-can't-relate-to-this-Ânewfangled-stuff mini crisis, my nieces dragged me along and I decided on Vanilla yogurt. I was disappointed that they didn't have flavors like Taro or Matcha which are my favorites. After reading other reviews, it appears that they do have Taro, but they didn't have it that day. The toppings bar was really small, but it was neatly organized which I liked. They had your typical fruit options, along with nuts and chocolate. I got blueberries, strawberries, and white chocolate chips. I was sad that they didn't have mochi, but oh well. After my yogurt cup was weighed, my total came to around $5 and some change. I honestly can't say if that was a fair price because I don't get frozen yogurt that often. The cups (bowls?) are all one size and they are pretty big. My yogurt was good, nothing special, but I didn't expect anything spectacular after choosing Vanilla. At times I felt like I was chewing on something with the texture of shredded coconut even though I didn't put any coconut in my yogurt. I think it was the white chocolate chips, but it kind of weirded me out. If I'm visiting my family again, I will probably come back but only if it's a non-peak time. We went on a Sunday night when it wasn't too crowded. I don't know if I could take being in there when it's packed!
(3)Bethany D.
Yum!
(4)Natasha S.
I have been here at least 3 times - been pleased each time. It can get pretty crowded, but the line goes through pretty fast. I'm a fan of the original tart flavor and I love their toppings here. Always full, fresh and yummy. Some are hard to reach, which I wish they could spread out so we weren't elbowing each other to get some coconut flakes, but hey.... can't ask for too much right? The service is pretty good, in fact one of the managers was awesome. I had forgotten my wallet at the restaurant I had just left next door, so I asked him to hold mine while I ran over real quick. He refused to let me go, and let me take it for free. He let me know I could pay next time, which I actually returned immediately and paid. But the principle was great! The prices are reasonable. I pack mine to the fullest and it's always under $5.00! I always walk out a happy girl, very happy.
(4)April N.
The quality of their frozen yogurt is enough to make me never go back to ice cream. The cake batter flavor is delicious. They also have a summer flavor of sorbet, watermelon, which is also equally delicious. Lots of toppings to choose from. Convenient location as well. I will go back!
(4)Amanda B.
I purchased frozen yogurt here and was thoroughly disgusted. The floor was sticky. The toppings bar needed to be cleaned. Froyo dripped over the sides of the machines. And an employee was "low riding" his jeans below his buttocks.
(1)Corine C.
Welp ... it was ahh'ight... have definitely had better. Yogurt was good. I got the cheesecake and vanilla mix. After a few scoops, I didnt want anymore ... not sure if i can blame this on them or temporary food ADD. Ahh well ... I probably won't go here again ...
(2)Patrick W.
Self service has its ups and downs. This location is very busy and the toppings tend to get worked over pretty hard, get ready for them to be mixed all over each other. And their yogurt machines tend to break down a lot it seems.
(3)Charly A.
I'm ADDICTED! A friend of mine took me to FroZenYo when it first opened and I had a craving for the place ever since. I love the choices in the frozen-yo (red velvet cake is my fav) and the choice of toppings (more gummy bears please), I have dropped by at lease twice a week since. Maybe i should buy stock options...hmm? Charly A
(5)Maboud E.
Self-serve frozen yogurt. Rotating selections and open late. If you want a sample, ask for a spoon. Bottled water for 29 cents last time I was there! If nothing else, it's cheap water.
(4)Roy S.
Great flavors, awesome toppings and CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP!!! I go here every time I'm downtown, it cannot be missed! I love how they rotate the flavors and have a good topping bar also. 29 cents for bottled water!!!! Time to stock up...
(5)Lauren M.
Great frozen yogurt! The frozen yogurt is creamy like soft-serve ice cream and is not nearly as icy as other brands. The store had a great selection of flavors and most were either fat free or low-fat. The people working there were very cheerful and helpful. I bought a mix of peanut butter and chocolate with a few toppings. I was very pleased with both flavors. (Though I recommend you let the machine run a little bit before putting your cup underneath.) And for 39 cents per ounce, this was a great deal! Highly recommend trying this place. it's a nice addition to the downtown area. ~Lauren
(5)Mark B.
I took a friend here and he found a hair in his frozen yogurt. I watched as the staff refilled yogurt machines without head coverings or latex gloves. I hope this isn't the practice in the entire chain.
(1)Jessica H.
I love the selection!l Very nice selection of yogurt including low fat and sugar free options. They also have fresh fruits and your favorite ice cream toppings. BEWARE, there are so many choices, it is easy to get a boatload. Just remember, this place serves PER POUND. The location is great, and the motif is very modern/stylish. It is Very clean, and the staff are extremely friendly.
(5)Jenifer S.
For about $6 plus tax I had 3 large scoops of Dulce de Leche (?), strawberry and tart frozen yoghurt, all very creamy and tasteful. Added a couple of strawberries and choc bits and it was delicious. My only criticism is no where could I see a sign that said what the price per pound was going to be. Also the cashier (money handler) was stirring the toppings for some reason, adjusting the serving spoons and otherwise fiddling with the food, which totally annoyed me as I thought money handlers weren't allowed to be food handlers too. Didn't stop me eating this good stuff tho! But at this price, they should be squeaky clean AND let customers know what the cost is going to be ahead of time.
(4)Maxine J.
It's good. It tastes like soft serve ice cream. The topping selection is nice, but the area is small. The place often gets crowded. It's not as reasonably priced as it should be because they go by weight. You really have to sit down and eat it right there because it melts quickly. My friend and I got it one time and walked to the parking lot and chatted. We looked down at our cups and it had melted. Melted before we even got into our cars! Wack.
(3)Rin H.
I love froyo, and this location is pretty damn convenient. The toppings bar is usually really clean, and I've never seen any toppings out of stock. Sometimes the froyo consistency is off (too thick, too thin) but I do appreciate the semi-seasonal rotation of flavors. My biggest complaint is the location is a little small, so a crowd of seated patrons can seriously clog up the space for the topping bar line. Also, lots of line cutting and general confusion from people who are trying to wrangle kids, use their smartphone, or figure out how the process works.
(4)Adelina Z.
I love this place. It's hard to remember sometimes that you're eating frozen yogurt and not ice cream because what it lacks on fat it certainly makes up for in flavor. Endless topping choices and you get to choose your own portions. What's not to love about this place? And disinfecting foam for my hands afterwards. Oh yes. My kind of place.
(4)Barbie R.
I love their frozen yogurt. It is tasty, fresh, and varied in flavor. However, I find the loud music in most of their stores unbearable. When I requested that it be lowered, the employees tell me that they are required to keep it at that level. Do people who lose their hearing from noise buy more yogurt? So unpleasant that I hesitate to go back there.
(2)Ira M.
Love it! Best Frozen Yogurt place I've been to yet. 16 different yogurt flavors that are all so good and actually taste like what they are supposed to be (I just tried the red velvet which was amazing). Plenty of good toppings and a variety as well. And even when it's really busy and there is a big line it seems to move pretty fast. Price seems to be better than others as my wife and I both got decent sized servings and the total for both was $6. And then the bonus - free hot fudge or caramel at the end! We now plan our meals to make sure we'll have room for desert at FroZenYo!
(5)Erica T.
All you need to know about me is that I am a frozen yogurt snob...and not just anything cold with dairy in it, that's been spinning around in a machine for a while, will do. Upon arival, I have always felt like the place was sterile. Not in an atmosphere way, but so clean that they could perform operations in the room as well. For me, this is a huge thing when you have patrons passing through constantly grabbing at their own toppings (with utensils, of course). The last thing you want is the walnuts and maple syrup contaminating the Cap'n Crunch. Or is it.....? Their flavors are vast and some of ever changing, but it's not about that for me. I go straight to the Original Tart every time. If a place can't do that flavor right, then they are not worth a second trip in my snobby book. And...oh do they do it right. Just tart enough, yet sweet and subtle. The yogurt is smooth, cold and enjoyable. I hate when there is a grainy texture and that has yet to be experienced. That's how you can tell it's top quality. Their toppings are just right: A decent sized selection so you aren't missing anything, and it's not so overwhelming that your yogurt turns into a wasteland of undecided identity (do you go the chocolate route...the fruit route.....the ceral route......?). Best of all, if it's your thing, fudge and caramel are free!!! Great place in Downtown Silver Spring! My 1 1/2 year old already recognizes this as one of our "snack" places, and says "snack" frantically the few times we pass it by and don't go in. I know I'm a monster....looks like I might have created another one! :)
(4)Saquan V.
A must go place when in Maryland my next visit it will be my first stop before heading to my hotel they have a large variety and they cater to every one needs as well
(4)Angela A.
I love this place!!!! Love, love, love their frozen yogurt. The first time I went I sampled six different flavors in my cup. High score for the coconut, red velvet and strawberry banana but my favorite so far is the strawberry lemonade!! It is so refreshing. I have never been a frozen yogurt fan until now. I am in Silver Spring several times a week and I think I need to work this place into my budget because my kids love it too! It's a must try and try again, and again and again!
(5)Ryan J.
Finally! A restaurant where timeliness is not destroyed by the stupidity of its patrons! You will never have to wait in lines, or have some inconsiderate mom tell her child to "order, honey...tell the nice man what you want!," while the kid just stands there like a freakin' lawn gnome. EFFICIENCY!! FroZenYo's self-service is so simple a cave man could do it! And in Silver Spring, this happens a lot! Toppings are plentiful and the fruit is fresh! Also, the employees are freakin' baller. If you are new to their self-service processes, they will DROP KNOWLEDGE! I highly recommend the coconut frozen yogurt coupled with fresh pineapple chunks doused with chocolate. Also, these guys shoved CakeLove down the block. I am glad to be free from the looming presence of their nasty, dry ass yellow cake and blubbery, lard-flavored buttercream.
(5)Lauren L.
This place was great - I should have immediately written a review when I went about a week ago and wish I had known that while this has the same name/brand as the FroZen Yo in Friendship Heights, it is FAR superior. I have a separate, less favorable review to write about that one. The frozen yogurt is more soft-serve-y than frozen-yogurt-y in taste, but it's delicious. The toppings are amazing, great variety of flavors and SUPER clean joint. Also they sell bottles of water for something like 28 cents. I had a mix of peanut butter, chocolate and cheesecake, with some amazing toppings like marshmallows and kit kats. I will drive to Siver Spring, even though it's out of the way, for this frozen yogurt.
(5)Kristina K.
We stopped by FroZenYo because this joint came highly recommended. Unfortunately, the only impression that both of us felt after sampling the regular and the reduced cal treats served here was _yuck_!! Every flavor we tried tasted a little soapy and unlike the flavors one would usually associate with the desserts. Who knew that one could ruin not only chocolate but also mint and fruit-flavored frozen yogurt? Toppings were fine but not enough to cover up the yogurt itself--and I normally really enjoy fro yo. Gross... I have never thrown out an ice cream/fro yo treat before but guess there's a first for everything.
(1)Elizabeth S.
I thought the Froyo wasn't really froyo. The texture felt more like ice cream. You can tell ice cream from Frozen yogurt and this felt like it was more like ice cream. was not impressed with the selection of toppings. there is FREE hot fudge by the cashier area. I think I want to stick to only eating at Pink Berry.
(2)Liz Z.
After coming back to the dC area from the STL, I was in a mad, serious search for a self-serve frozen yogurt place, similar to a favorite of mine in sT. LouiS. After almost 6 weeks of going to almost every nook and cranny in old town Alex & downtown dC, I found the perfect "fro-yo" place in downtown siLver SprinG. They have at least 10 different yogurt flavors and copious amounts of topping selections at the bar that you can choose from (including hot fudge by the cashier...just ask!). I had the lucky honor of introduction the concept of frozen yogurt to my 6-year-old niece who just loved the concept of being able to had "cereal bits" as a topping. Only thing: They don't have a clear view of prices (typically these kinds of stores measure by oz.) but I really didn't care by the time I got to the cashier. I was beyond thrilled to have found FroZenYo

I have to say, this place was pretty cool as far as getting a delicious treat goes. Frozen yogurt dispensed from machines where you help yourself to everything, including a toppings bar. Basically you walk in, grab your bowl, go to one of the machines that dispenses two (or a mix) different kinds of frozen yogurt, then move on to the toppings bar before you ring it up (by weight). It is a small place, but when I went on a week night it wasn't so busy I couldn't sit down; I can't speak for the weekend though. It looked like it could hold maybe 20 people in there. They have a decent selection of frozen yogurt on tap, even some sugar free for the extremely diet conscious (although i'm not sure what you are really doing in that place if you are not having a cheat meal). All in all, I enjoyed it and would go back if I'm ever in the area again on a cheat day :).

The mixed berries and tart tasted more like ice cream to me. It was extremely milky and had a fake high fructose corn syrup taste. I guess I taste it like this because pretty much every other fro-yo place I've been to has a fresh, real and organic taste. I barely even touched the machine and it squirted out way too much- I didn't even want that much. And it poured really slowly too, even splashing everywhere. The toppings I put were strawberries and blueberries with chocolate chips. The blueberries tasted over-ripe and the strawberries were frozen..weird. When I ate my first spoon of it, it tasted like when you freeze ice cream then let it melt then freeze again with that weird ice crunchy taste. The price is decent- pretty much every fro-yo place charges by ounce. On a side note, I wanted to use the bathroom but there was pee all over the place..ended up not using it.

Warning: This place is addictive. If I lived closer, I would have this for dinner every night. Anytime I am in the area, I always make sure to leave room. They have a great variety of flavors and toppings--all self serve so you pick the perfect combo and amount. PLUS, there is free hot fudge and caramel after paying. The staff has always been super friendly. Bonus: Really cheap bottled water and clean bathrooms.

Solid chain fro yo joint. What sets this place apart from the millions...AND THE MILLIONS (Rock voice)...it's got great flavors (Cinnabun...yup) and it's cheap too. Rock on.

Tons of variety! Usually clean! Love this place!

Went here for the first time today and I was very pleasantly surprised. They have a great selection of yogurt--something like 8 or 10 flavors. Red velvet was delicious. Pistachio didn't really taste like much. I ended up going with my old standby, original tart. It was good, but not the best I've had. It really tasted like tart dannon yogurt, not the froyo version of it. They have a great selection of toppings, they have the usual chocolate chips, fruit, oreo cookies, mochi, etc...but what I thought was a little bit more unique were the waffle cone bits, little cubes of yellow cake, kit kat pieces, and nilla wafer cookies. At $.39 per ounce it's a pretty good deal. They say it's the best price in the area. The workers were friendly, the store is clean. I'll definitely be back here!

I love this place because I can get a small amount of dessert for a reasonable price. I enjoy the variety of flavors and toppings. It's excellent for a hot day and the water is cheap.

Big fan of this chain and the Silver Spring incarnation is no different. Good prices for good froyo. Even in the dead of winter, Frozenyo was often packed on weekends. It will only get busier in the spring and summer. Great place for anyone wanting to fulfill a sweet tooth!

Of all the frozen yogurt places that I've tried in the area, FroZenYo is by far my favorite. I love the fresh fruit options, especially because they're big chunks of fruit instead of the tiny mushy pieces you get some places. Even though I'm partial to the plain tart flavor (topped with pineapple), FroZenYo has so many fun flavors that it's hard for me to be boring and stay with plain. The banana and the peach are delicious, and the red velvet is crazy good. I also love that you can get as much or as little as you want. If you just want a bite of something sweet, you're not committed to a huge bowl of ice cream. Though if you're like me and really bad at getting the dispensers to give you only a little bit, you wind up with a bowl full anyway but it's tasty and not as bad for me as Cold Stone so I'm not really complaining. Another bonus is that they sell bottles of water for something ridiculous like 29 cents. When it's hot out, that's fantastic.

Came here on a Friday afternoon and it was pretty packed. Seems like the red velvet was very popular since a lot of people were waiting for it. I opted for the tropical flavors. Coconut was SO delicious! I recommend mixing it with the tart to keep things fresh. They have a nice selection of toppings here. If you're looking for a cheap but delectable way to go, try the cereals. I always get fruity pebbles since it gives it that granola-y crunch but it's lighter and really flavorful.

Amazing self-serve frozen yogurt! Tons of flavors, most are nonfat or low fat. They'll let you sample the flavors before you decide, and there are no limits on what you can do. It's priced by the ounce so you can do as many yogurt flavors as you like and as many toppings as you like. It's also less expensive than most frozen yogurt places. $0.39 per ounce. Great addition to downtown Silver Spring!

Might be cheap but the flavors are off at this place and incredibly fake, yogurt is FAR too heavy (it's yogurt after all), and the non-dairy flavors are grainy, like they've been thawed and re-frozen.

The design of the toppings bar holds this place back. Because the toppings table is up against a wall (and there's only a small half-window for staff to reach in and refill), the toppings bar get sloppy as customers drip toppings all over the other ones. And when the servers need to refill, it causes a huge backup. Similar frozen yogurt places have a staff member attending to the toppings bar at all times from the other side of the table, constantly refilling and cleaning. I wish they would do something like that with this place. That said, I am very happy to have such an excellent selection of frozen yogurt in downtown Silver Spring.

Good flavor selection. Always busy. I've been a few times, and sometimes the service is attentive, but today the girl was bored to be there.

Best frozen yogurt in the area, hands down. Clean store. Even when there was a lot of people, things moved pretty quickly. Great selection of flavors and the toppings look fresh and delicious. I was a little nervous about paying by weight but price was great! Now I go to the downtown location all the time (after work!).

One word: yum. More words? Okay, if you insist. A dozen or so flavors of serve-yourself frozen yogurt, a toppings bar with "healthy" toppings like fruit and not-so-healthy-but-delicious toppings like candy, Reese's cups, etc. As another reviewer mentioned, they sell bottles of water for 29 cents, which is an amazing deal (and is a great idea given the weather we've had lately). And as has also been said, the employees are great, too. Generally, I spend between $2 and $3, which isn't bad at all. Because the cups are so big, though, it's easy to go overboard -- be careful! Frozen yogurt melts quickly.

Awesome idea. Some of the best frozen yogurt around with great variety of flavors and toppings. The bottled water for 29 cents is pretty good, too.

Had to try out the new spot in downtown Silver Spring. Best frozen yogurt Ever..........especially the banana cream, Yummy!!!

Delicious, and a lot of low/no-fat options. Also lots of topping options. It's much less expensive than Ben & Jerrys and Cold Stone Creamery. The only flaw is that there's only one size bowl, and it's big. You could fit 4 regular scoops in it, and it's all too easy to fill it. I recommend sharing with someone else -- you can always go back for more. :-)

I love this place! I went 3 times the first week I found it. You get a cup, you fill it with whatever you want, they weigh it, you pay, then enjoy! They cycle through flavors, I just hope they bring the Red Velvet back (it's 98% fat free!).

First time I tried FrozenYo was last year in Columbia Heights. Instantly it became my favorite, so I was pleasantly surprised to learn that it was coming to Silver Spring. I was deligently checking it for about couple months (or since I first saw the sign that replaced cupcakes place in downtown). Finally, it was open last week. Hooray! I still really like the idea of self-served choices (especially mango and pistachio) and a lot of toppings. The only thing that I found annoying is....it's so popular. If you go there by the end of the day on weekend, there is a chance that they may run out of some flavors and the toppings area looks like it was run over by hurricane.

i meant to post this earlier... After a few calls, I spoke with the manager about the experience and he was apologetic for the inconvenience. Offered to make it up to us. There were still a few bumps, but eventually it worked out. In particular, Alexis (lead associate?) was particularly attentive and worked to help me. Good end result.

great flavors, great workers.
