The food was good, and the service was attentive. We went for the Tex-Mex basics, which were well prepared and properly seasoned. Definitely a nice step above chain store fair. Everything seemed freshly prepared, good enchiladas, burrito, and a very surprisingly good- even excellent- tamale! The menu also include an extensive array of seafood dishes...perhaps thats what we'll try next trip. btw- the dining room had 12 booths and 2 tables...nicely appointed...you didn't have the feeling you were in a carry-out. Definitely a nice find.

I have consistently been impressed with the food and friendliness in this restaurant! Last visit, we had $2 beer, and salsa (fantastic), guacamole (fresh and to die for) and queso (creamy and hard to resist). We ordered a second round of crispy tortilla chips to enjoy our appetizers. Next, we shared sizzling chicken fajitas and a vegetarian Jody's burrito which is stuffed with black beans and avocado. Both entrees were generous and very delicious! We were served sides of black beans, pinto beans, and Mexican Rice because we chose these amongst others available. We enjoyed the sides, and my husband kept track of his basketball game while I enjoyed island music. We splurged on Sopillas, even though we were full and needed a "doggie bag". The dessert was fresh and light pastry with whipped cream inside, and honey and powdered sugar outside. It was devoured. Service was excellent!

Second worst Mexican restaurant that I have ever been to. The food was so bland and gross.

Used to come here very often, but lately the quality has gone down and the price up. The last time i was there, i ordered some tacos with no meat or veggies and my mother ordered fajitas. Bill comes out (see quote in tips) $40 for a couple of tacos? WTF?!?!?!? Not gonna be back until some changes happen

Good quality food with very good service.

Portions skimpy. Confusing fajita menu (sizzling or grilled?). One of us ordered the grilled fajitas. The food - after a good wait - was luke warm at best. So, sizzling comes hot but grilled does not? The steak in the burrito was tough, chewy. Seems like the staff was just as unhappy as the patrons. Won't be back unless something changes.

Pretty sure they used Velveeta as a cheese sauce on the food. We were the only ones there and the food still came out almost cold. I will not be back.

I came here when I moved to SP 13 years ago and had found no reason for a return visit. Meh food and uninspired service. Returned two weeks ago I returned figuring that maybe it had gotten better since it was still here. Do they buy frozen entrees from the nearby Safeway and microwave them for us diners? That's what I felt, there was no hint of freshness in our meals. With Chris' restaurant and Mi Pueblo II nearby why come here. I think Chipotle is even fresher.

Fast, friendly service and delicious food. I had Jody's burrito, one of the many vegetarian selections. My friend enjoyed the chipotle chicken fajitas. The fajitas came on a sizzle iron plate along with guacamole, sour cream and pico to top the fajitas. The chipotle sauce was amazing but not for the tender taste buds, it has a kick! We also took full advantage of the happy hour, $2 margaritas, seriously? What a great deal.

Ummm... I went for a margarita, and the waitress sets it down with, "I know it's watery, but..." and walks away! She had to get back to her boyfriend who was apparently there to visit her. No thanks!

My family and I have given this place 3 attempts. None of which where at least decent. The food is pricey. Honestly it isn't very good. It is a shame because we love Mexican food and it is very close to our house.

Food was way overpriced for quality / quantity. Save your money and your taste buds and go to taco bell (that's saying a lot).

As 20 year residnts of Severna Park, we have longed for good mexican food, and ocassionally, once pops up on Rt 2 near the donut shack, but not often. Riveras has been in that location for almost the entir time we've Iived here. It appears this restaurant is owned by one of the partners from Mexican Cafe down in Bayridge. Whenthey first came to town, they were really good, and have always had great margaritas (order the "Perfect if you go). Anyway, they started their downhill slide when they replaced their very good queso dip with #10 can cheese, then went on to cold food, then finally to non-sizzling fajitas. We still end up there occasionally for ritas, but the food is not good, and overpriced.

Food was real good. Kind of a Tex Mex and not too authentic tasting, BUT it was still real good. The dining room is very small. If it's busy get take out. They were def understaffed when we were there at 6-7pm on a Saturday night. Good location and plenty of parking.

We've always enjoyed previous visits to Rivera's but our experience last week has me rethinking whether we'll return. We walked in on a Tuesday evening around 7pm and there were a few of the tables occupied, but the place wasn't slammed. It appears that they were woefully understaffed with one person acting as waitstaff, host, bartender and cashier. The food took forever to come out and was sort of "thrown together" on the plate. Perhaps there is new management? Nonetheless, we may bypass Rivera's in the future and find a new place to satisfy our South of the Border cravings.

I decided to stop in while I was in the area to get some tacos. I ordered the taco meal and a diet coke. I made sure to ask for no cheese on the tacos since I am lactose intolerant. The first time they arrived with an all cheese quesadilla that looked like it was slathered in yellow plastic, and a sprite. When I told the waitress she told me that they were "busy" and just left the stuff there. Eventually I just moved to an empty booth, then someone came over and took my order. When I received my taco, I glanced over at the waitress, who drank the sprite on the table I was seated at before. The taco was wet for some reason, and it had cheese. I asked for another taco (I still didnt have my diet coke) and I got it this time it was just a taco and the meat. No cheese, but nothing else either. It was ok I was surprised to find they tried to charge me for the quesadilla I didnt order, as well as the sprite the waitress drank. they 19.99 + tip for no drink and a weird wet tortilla with some dry meat on it. I rather go to taco bell dont ever go here unless you bring a gameboy, and a copy of super mario land because its going to take you 45+ minutes to get your order, and you wont ever get a drink
