India is the birth place of Chicken Tikka Masala and Curries. Indian foods are prepared with a blend of finely mixed spices quite popular across the region. The spices develop the rich taste in Indian food enough to boggle your mind. The ever-increasing fan base of Indian food around the New York city is steadily increasing because of the large number of Indians who traveled to the land of dreams. The Indians also brought their very own vibrant, colorful, and aromatic authentic dishes for the people in the West. While most of the Indian population is Vegetarian, Indian food is great for people who are looking for vegan or vegetarian food option. If you are a Meat lover, don't get disappointed yet. Indian food also boasts of some popular non-vegetarian dishes too. Few examples are the famous Butter Chicken, Mutton Biryani and Tandoori Chicken are enough to satisfy your taste buds.
Indian food has gained reputation all over the world especially in the United States. You can find many places serving the appetizing Indian food across all major cities in the US. India is a diverse country with different food culture originated from different parts of the country. While the Northern region boasts tandoori dishes and korma offering royal taste, the Western Ghats offers sea foods that is made in naturally sweet tender coconut milk. The South Indian food servers a quality of different dishes made from rice accompanied with spicy chutneys, curries and famous sambhar. Also, the Indian sweets are a delight to relish. If you ever want to have a burst of sugar syrup in mouth, don't forget to try few Bengali Sweets. Be it spicy, tangy, or sweet flavor, you can find everything in the Indian cuisine. Be assured that the melody of spices will surely bring delight to you.

Super yummy Dal Tadka... Very tasty pakoras. The Bhel wasn't the best though. Overall, this is one of the few Indian restaurants that serves freshly prepared dishes. Good ambience too.

This is the worst Indian food I have had in a long time. The spices, what spices?, didn't make it to the dishes. Had hardly any salt. My favorite thing was the naan. I will never go there again 33 for two veggie buffets and 2 drinks. Worst money spent

Delicious! Lamb curry, chicken tiki massala, excellent service, very romantic and quiet! Visit!!
(4)Angelica C.
I am particularly picky about Indian food, but this place is by far the best I've had. I've had two of their vegetarian dishes, but I can't think of the name--one dish has green sauce with specs in it and the second dish is yellow sauce with specs in it. I usually have to describe the dishes to the waiter and he always knows which dishes I am describing. Those two dishes are DELICIOUS! I've been there three times now and they never disappoint! The garlic naan is delicious too! Great staff and great good, so can't go wrong here!

Guy was rude over the phone as I placed my order and while paying kept giving me nasty stares. My favorite dish the chicken tikka masala was horrible. Mango lassi was watered down. The location is nice but the staff and food are very very poor. Might rethink before coming here.

Really good food, the best Indian restaurant around!!
(5)Jared J.
This was a pretty disappointing buffet considering how glowing some of the reviews are. To start, Bukhara does not offer any tea in their buffet, which is annoying. Compounding the food frustration, they do not place the naan out on the smorgasbord; rather, you must request it by the basket from one of the servers. So basically, when the restaurant is crowded and the servers are busy, do not expect to get much naan. The food itself was generally uninspired with a few exceptions: the tandoori chicken was perfectly cooked and melted away from the bone, the kheer was awesome and had large chunks of almonds, and the naan (once I finally got some) was fresh. Beyond those three highlights, the rest of the food is not worth discussing. I grabbed a menu on the way out because I had read other Yelpers' reviews about the high prices, and I agree. The price range is $15-20 (definitely exorbitant) for one of these bland dishes at dinner, though $10 for the buffet is more palatable.

Visited Bukhara for dinner with wife. The ambience is nice with comfortable seating, service is also ok. We ordered vegetarian food and were not too impressed. The curd in sweet lassi had gone sour. Garlic naan was nice however dum aaloo was no where near what it should be. It appeared to be boiled and cut Aloo put in sweet makhni gravy. Veg kofta were also not that great. Both curries had excessive cream. Our experience was not in line with the other reviews here. Makes me feel probably their non- veg food is better than veg.

3.5 stars Came here to use a Living Social deal and I wasn't super impressed. The dishes weren't bad but they also were not the best Indian food that I have had. It was just OK to me except for one stellar dish. We ordered the Lamb Vindaloo and Saag Chicken (a compromise since I pretty much order Saag Paneer every time I go to an Indian restaurant so we wanted to order something different). The Lamb Vindaloo was flavorful but a little bit too spicy. I was also hoping for a little more creaminess in the Saag Chicken. However, what was absolutely delicious was the stir-fried okra dish (Bhindi Do Pyaza) with onions and other goodies. It was so flavorful and the okra was delicious! It had that gooey texture but it was still a little crispy and maintained its shape because it was stir-fried. The flavors were spot-on...cumin, garam masala, turmeric, etc. By the end of the meal, my eating partner and I were fighting over the okra. If I returned, I would definitely order this dish again! I had never ordered this dish before and I was thoroughly impressed. If you're not a fan of okra though, I would not recommend the dish. Service was very attentive. My water glass was never empty and our rice bowl was filled when it was running low.

Came with two friends for dinner. We shared the Bhindi, Okra, and Channa dishes, as well as a bread basket with garlic naan, onion kulcha, and mint paratha. I didn't particularly like the way the Bhindi (Okra) was cooked-- rather than the fried version I'm used to seeing, this was just lightly sauteed, which left the okra a bit slimy. Also the okra themselves were not the best, I had some really fibrous bits. Other than that everything was good- not the best Indian food I've ever had, but far from the worse. The portions were generous-- bigger than I was expecting for the price, and so this ended up being far too much for dinner for the three of us and we sent the leftovers home with one of the group members. We had a groupon, and ended up paying about $20 each for all of this.

Go for the naan stay for the rest! The first time I went to the Bukhara I went because of a groupon. Everyone does it you know? The first thing I ordered was a combination of assorted breads. This included different kinds of naan and roti. They actually have a combo option for the different breads, which was awesome. Ordering the bread was the best decision of the night. The naan and roti I ordered were so good I ordered them twice with my friends. A must try is the garlic naan and the name eludes me, but it had ground lamb in it. Now for the main entrees. My friends and I ordered chicken korma, goat curry, and a combination platter. All the dishes were spot on. The goat curry in my opinion was the best out of all the dishes. The lamb had just the right amount give and take. The texture was wonderful and the flavors of all the dishes were pretty spot on. I have never been to India, so I don't know how authentic it is. But one thing for sure is that if you go there to eat, spicy means spicy. We had gotten the chicken korma spicy and wow my mouth was on fire. I am not a wimp when it comes to heat, but it had me sweating. One of my friends didn't mind, but then he told me he has been eating ghost peppers for the past month. Go figure lol

My husband and I were in the mood for Indian food and wanted to try someplace new. Although the reviews for Bukhara were mixed, we decided to give it a chance and we were not disappointed. The first thing we liked was the pleasant and quiet dining room, with a choice of booths or tables. We took a booth, but next time we would take a table because when someone is sitting in the booth next to you and pushes back into the seat, you feel it (at least at my seat). Also, the table between the booth seating is wide so you feel kind of far away from your dining partner. The food was very good to excellent. First came the complimentary basket of papadum (crispy flat bread or cracker). We knew we shouldn't fill up on this, but it was addictive so we ate it all. We ordered vegetable samosas, paneer makhani (paneer in a tomato cream sauce), gobi taka tak (cauliflower and potato in a sauce), garlic naan, and mango chutney. Rice came with the meal. I can't eat very spicy food (even though I like Indian food) but I didn't have a problem here. The samosas were a little spicy but not overwhelming. I asked for the gobi to be mild, and it still had some spice but the flavor was delicious. My husband loved his paneer, which he asked for and got spicy. The garlic naan was great--again, we ate it all even though we were stuffed. The chutney was also very good. Service was pleasant and food came out fairly quickly but not rushed. Prices were a little high but not unusual for this area. We would definitely go back, though we might wait for a Groupon.

After one of our favorite Indian restaurants closed last year my family went on the hunt for a new place. We discovered The Bukhara via Groupon and what a great find it is! Our 5 year old son likes a lot of different places, but this is one of the few he asks for by name. While he forgets its real name, it is simply known to him as "The Korma Place." This is where I got him to try Chicken Korma and he was hooked right away. They have a great menu overall. I love the saag, korma and a few others. The naan is fresh and tasty. The décor and atmosphere is very nice and comfortable. Above the great food (and value) is the service. EVRYBODY is so nice and helpful. We've been here at least a dozen times and every time has been consistently good both in service and quality of food. This is now our go to Indian restaurant in the Bethesda/Rockville area.
(5)Erin F.
Went to the Sunday buffet on the strength of the reviews and was disappointed. With the exception of the tandoori chicken, all of the foods were cold. Nothing was particularly tasty. Moreover, the curries were watery. Service was good--they refilled our water constantly and brought fresh bread just as we sat down with food. Still, there are many better options within a 10 min. drive.

One of the best Indian restaurants / lunch buffets I have been to. The beauty is that this gem has not been "discovered" since it is in the 'burbs. The lunch buffet is $9.95, which is pretty sweet. The ambiance is intimate and welcoming. The food tastes like a meal cooked for you by a good friend. It's very fresh and there is a good variety in the buffet. The daal was by far the best I've ever had, which is quite a statement - not soupy or liquidy at all, very "beany" with the perfect amount of spices. The naan was just perfect. I will definitely be back.
(5)Brennan W.
Delicious chicken biryani, not really cheap but not expensive either. Highly recommended.
(4)Jojo S.
I have just finished my Chicken Tikka Masala takeout and i'm not at all happy. While the better part about the dish was the Chicken itself (moist, but lacking signature Tikka flair) the sauce was extremely thin. There was really no flavor to it whatsoever, except maybe that of tomato paste. It just seems that the sauce was watered down excessively. The chicken/vegetable ratio was also very poor. The rice was undercooked and over-buttered. For a fifteen dollar meal this is a really bad deal.
(2)Victoria S.
Enjoyed their delicious lunch buffet today - lots of tasty options including a delicious fruit dessert! The naan was hot, fluffy and buttery - what more could you ask for in a naan? The curries and sauces were all distinctive and delicious - I especially enjoyed the spicy veggie vindaloo and the chicken curry. Their tandoori chicken was also moist and tasty. My husband really enjoyed their goat curry (enough to eat 3 plates!) All in all, a great option for Indian buffet lunch for $9.95 - we would definitely come again!!!
(5)Arthur O.
Great food, but I wish they gave the nan complimentary.
(4)Stacy S.
The food is just ok. Go there if you have a groupon or livingsocial and try the Hariyali Chicken which is really good. Rest of the food was really oily, lacking in taste and just mediocre. The service is good, but the food was pricy. Vegetarian entrees for like $12 is just a ripoff and to that add like 3.50 for Naan! I have never seen naan priced that high. Want chopped onions on the side, that would be another $1.50. I will not be going here again..save your money and go some place else & yes I do know a thing or two about indian food.
(2)Lara P.
I went for Saturday night dinner and the restaurant was pretty full and towards 8, there was a wait to be seated. Although the restaurant is small, they only had two servers and a busboy working. It was extremely hard to catch our waiter's attention since he was doubling as the bartender. Our server took our order but didn't write it down and came back a couple minutes later to clarify our order.... but even after clarifying we still got the wrong naan. Overall, the staff is friendly and the food is delicious but I feel that they were understaffed for a Saturday night which took a toll at the quality of their service.
(3)Ilya N.
We live in the area and love Indian Food. Tikka Masala here is average. The customer service (esp. over the phone) is bad and we will not be going back. We tried to have them deliver us food 4 times, each time being on hold for over 5 minutes. They delivered the first order no problem. Next, they said they would only deliver past 3 miles (we live 3.2 miles away) if the order exceeded $35. The next day they decided they wouldn't deliver to us no matter what price (during lunch time). I tried to explain to the person on the phone that we are a large family living nearby who love Indian food and would order from them often, but he absolutely did not care to lose our business. There are plenty of other places nearby that are just as good and are happy to have you. I recommend you eat there instead.
(2)Mike M.
happened upon this place and thought we'd check it out. the food was pretty delicious but overpriced compared to other area Indian restaurants. portions were quite small. we also felt a bit rushed, granted, we did arrive close to closing time but we hurriedly ate and it still didn't seem fast enough. we prefer spice xing in rockville town center.
(3)Bob C.
This is BEST Indian Food I have ever had. The dishes were fresh and the presentation was excellent. The portions were substantial which is good since we were able to bring some of it home. The spice was as requested, as each diner got exactly the level of spice they requested. The Wait Staff couldn't have been friendlier and more attentive. The take out is as good as eating at the restaurant. You've got to get there if you are an Indian Food Lover.
(5)Ann L.
This place is great. I love their chicken tikka masala. The service is also good. They give you large portions too. I highly recommend.
(5)James P.
I only live 5 minutes from this place and didn't even know about the restaurant until I received a Groupon offer. Given the past history of restaurants in this center, I didn't expect much from this restaurant. Was I caught by surprise. I frequent Indian restaurants, and personally, this is the best one yet. I don't know what I had because I'm one of those eaters who likes to try everything on the menu and gets my family member to order those dishes. I especially enjoyed their naans. I just hope this restaurant stays around because this center doesn't draw too many people so many restaurants come and go.
(5)Amber M.
Amazing service, great prices, and SO YUMMY!!!!!!!!! My boyfriend and I loved it and will definitely go back in the future.
(5)Danielle L.
We have been seeking a new Indian place and didn't even know that The Bukhara existed. Thanks to a groupon promotion, we are now aware that it's hidden away in Traville Gateway, near the Shady Grove Universities campus; tons of apts and businesses nearby but not where we tend to go for dining. We're sooo glad that we tried this. We ordered some of our typical dishes, the ones that tell us very quickly whether an Indian restaurant is good at what it does. The saag of the chicken saag was mostly spinach, not that creamy mess that many places do. The meat was fork-tender and the dish was nicely spiced (although next time, we'll definitely up the heat a bit). The korma was tasty and perfect for dipping the warm, fluffy naan. My son loved his yellow lentils, too (dal tadka) but to our surprise, ate half of the korma, a new dish for him. Kid was shoveling it in! (We didn't order the mixed grill but the table next to us had it. It looked/smelled fantastic.) Overall, it was delicious, reasonably priced (even without the promotion), and a pleasant dining experience. Big thumbs-up for the attentive service and nice decor. (Packed on a Saturday night, but we had no problems with drink refills, more rice, a spoon for the kid, etc. Use opentable for a reservation.) No parking problems either. We have no doubt that we'll be going back. (For comparison's sake, the other Indian place that we love is Haandi in Falls Church.)
(4)Jeff A.
Excellent!! All of the food was delicious and well prepared. They spiced the entrees per our order. Very courteous wait staff. Nice ambiance. Great value. Highly recommend!! We had the vegetable samosas, chicken vindaloo, chicken tikka, regular naan and Taj Mahal beer. It came with perfectly cooked and seasoned rice.
(5)Lisa N.
YUM! Just had dinner there tonight and still full from the wonderful food. The Lamb Saag was delicious, it was like the perfect mix of lamb and spinach. The spices were flavorful yet not overpowering (of course you ask for your spice level). I also tasted the Vegetable Jalfrezi which I was expecting to be a bunch of super cooked down vegetables but they came out super fresh but yet still very flavorful! I also had the cucumber raita which was hands down the best raita i've ever had. Delicious food, very welcoming atmosphere, and friendly waitstaff! The man working there, who I assume was the manager or owner, was super attentive to making sure we enjoyed the food and that our needs were met. My mother ordered a wine and ended up getting the wrong one - she didn't even notice, but he told her it had been a mix up and didn't charge us for it - and she hadn't even complained or noticed! I would highly recommend this place.
(5)Matt P.
Surprised by the overall rating here. I went on a Living Social coupon that I bought because of the Yelp score and was totally underwhelmed by my lamb vindaloo. The dish is routinely very spicy - and was advertised as such - but came out in a tepid and plain sauce. My companion's seafood sampler was more flavorful but still mild. Service and the rest was nice, but nothing special.
(2)Raj G.
Rockville, MD. Very good. Had chicken vindaloo. Could have had a bit more vinegar to make it more authentic, but still good enough. The malai chicken kababt is very mild, no need to ask them to make it mild. It comes with green chutney to allow you to dress up if you want a little more flavor and spice. Good ambience. Will go back to try more.
(4)Sachin G.
A must Go, for true Authentic Indian Food Lovers. You won't be disappointed. Try the Bukhara Daal Makhani, with real flavor and not just the taste of Makhan (Butter).
(5)Sandeep S.
Been here a few times now, only in the evenings. Being Indian and vegetarian, I am always skeptical of strip mall Indian restaurants. They are hit or miss; and have been miss in this area for a while now; but this is a hit. Consistently fresh I ingredients; the staff tailors to requests such as less oil in the food; and authentic flavors. Service a bit slow and the ambience is still strip mall though
(5)J C.
We first went here when it had just opened. From the beginning, food and service was great. Decor is nice. All excellent! Have been back many times. After a slow start, happy to see it getting more crowded. A great addition to the area.
(5)Allison B.
Super impressed with this place. I stopped by after work to order take-out. I didn't feel like I was waiting very long but the waitress apologized and brought be bread and dip while I waited (maybe she just felt bad for the pregnant lady in scrubs, but either way she earned bonus points). After about 15 mins of waiting, my food came and they said they threw in free Naan as an apology for the wait! Got home and the food was delicious and the portions were honestly enough to be 3-4 meals for me. Will definitely be going back! Can't say enough good things about the customer service here!
(5)C A.
Enjoyed their buffet lunch there today and was so impressed! Nice selection of vegetarian and meat options. Butter Chicken melted in your mouth & was delightfully spiced. Saag, dal (a little fiery on the spice which I loved and was a nice surprise!). Pakora were delicious and use Chick pea flour so being Gluten Free, I could enjoy those too! Kheer was just right in the sweetness and finished off the meal with just the right touch. Decor is elegant & inviting, yet intimate. Love the paintings and lighting. Service was spot on and not intrusive. Also nice that so many other patrons were Indian too which says a lot about how good Bukhara is! Definitely a place to try and don't let it's hidden location fool you. It's a gem, 5 minutes off Route 28 West & 270 North. Worth the trip & can't wait to go back!
(5)J S.
Best Indian food within a 20 mile radius. This is a gem of a place - truly should be a destination restaurant for people! Great service, nice people, fresh ingredients, awesome food. Highly recommended for all. Nice atmosphere, a little quaint but stylish, and most importantly, it's super clean. Great dining experience.
(4)Sahil P.
We ordered Paneer Makhani, Dam Aloo and Navratna Korma. Food is delicious. Definitely recommends everyone to visit this place. All the ingredients were fresh. My kids loved the Paneer Makhani. Naan was sooo good.
(5)Melissa M.
We've eaten here about a half-dozen times over the past six months, always for dinner, and gotten another half-dozen large-ish takeout orders, and I was ashamed to realize that I hadn't yet Yelp'ed them! The food here is terrific. I've tried most of the menu and love that each dish tastes like itself: the meats are consistently cooked well; the greens (saag and palak) taste like greens; coconut curries are rich and each has it's own flavor; chickpeas and potatoes are cooked perfectly and still taste like they ought; you can really taste the marinade on tandoor-cooked foods. I've not been to India, but a decade of eating on Devon in Chicago gave me the basics, and most of these dishes are that good. Samosas and naan are always brought out still too hot to touch. Naan is like little pillows of heaven. Everything is spotless. I wish they served a spicier pickle, but honestly, that's the only thing I would change and it reminds me why I should make my own :) They cater to non-spice eaters well and we usually abstain as my little one can't take real heat yet, but when I've asked for dishes prepared with more authentic heat, it tastes wonderful - like it was prepared that way - they hit the spicy versions much better than many places I've been where 'spicy' meant more heat but no added flavor. If you like Indian-spicy, you can get your spicy fix here. The staff are always friendly and on the ball; in all our visits we've never had an odd wait or an error. I bring my young daughter, and our waiters treat her well (you know how some places they either pretend they can't see kids or get all weird... none of that here). On top of everything, the prices are reasonable for the quality. It's my daughter's fav place, so I suspect we'll be eating here often.
(5)Kim N.
I would not have known about this restaurant if it had not been for their advertisement on Living Social. I am so glad I tried it. The food was hands down the most outstanding Indian food I've ever had. The garlic naan was perfect, as was the chicken tikka masala. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable. The service, however, was really slow - they seemed to be understaffed. Bottom line - great food and highly recommended!
(4)Rehman K.
Food was okay. Not bad. Pretty normal for an Indian Restaurant. Ordered the meat sampler entree - Bukhara ka Nazara. Received a tandoori shrimp also which was nice. Tandoori wings appetizer was great but Samosa appetizer was small. If you are used to spicy food, don't get medium. That was my fault. The entree arrived on a sizzling platter - much like the fajita platters. Drink was strong, thankfully.
(3)R Q.
Best Paneer Makhani I've ever had. Wow. Their bread options are really good, I tried the Goat cheese Kulcha which was amazing. This area has a lot of Indian restaurants but this is the first one that's really notable. Time will tell whether it stays consistent (a problem many Indian restaurants suffer) but right now they are on fire. Definitely check it out if you want good Indian food.
(5)Hasnaa S.
We had a double take promotion and went today, Saturday for the lrunch. There were only three employees, one was the receptionist and two servers. Our server did not speak English, when we asked for tea, mine was about half full and when I asked her to fill, she did not understand. So I waited and asked the other server and he refused and said tea was non refillable. They also did not honor the double take certificate while there was no indication on the certificate it would be invalid. I gave it one star b/c fish and butter chicken were good, goat and tandoori chicken were bland and undercooked.
(1)Andrea M.
Delicious! Service was AWESOME! Pure Delight!
(4)Megan A.
The paneer makhani was by far the best I've had in the area, and the most like what I had in India, too. It was creamy and flavorful, and I like that they offer it as mild, medium, or hot (I choose mild and it was exactly what I wanted). Their naan is soft and buttery with just the right amount of chewiness, and the rice was perfect. Can't wait to go back. This is my new Indian restaurant.

Our whole family loves Bukhara (young children and adults). Their Bukhara Ka Nazara is amazing! Every meal we have had here has been great. Service is very friendly and attentive. Restaurant is clean.
(5)Christina E.
The food was absolutely delicious. I recommend the Rashmi Chicken Seekh for the appetizer and I loved it. It was fresh, hot, and prepared beautifully. They had such a large selection of entrees, I will definetely be back to try more.
(5)Parminder A.
If you want to eat the way your Mama use to make Indian food at home, then this is the place to go. I have tried most of the Indian restaurants in Maryland, though I have some favorites, The Bukhara is about to become my most favorite Indian restaurant. The ambience is good, the service is excellent and the price is not bad either. My wife and I ordered Karahi Goat, Karahi Shrimp, Daal Bukhara, spinach nan and Kulfi (desert). All the items were very delicious, but most of all, there was hardly any oil, which was surprising and wonderful. My favorite was Daal Bukhara. It was very delicious. I came to know after talking to the chef that it was simmered over the clay oven overnight to give it that extra flavor. If you don't try anything else, which I think would be very hard for you to do, do try the Dall Bukhara. You will truly enjoy it. If you want true Northern Indian food go here and you will not be disappointed.
(5)Neil D.
I have had numerous dinners there, both eat in and take out. The food is tasty, service is great. Highly recommended.
(5)Madhu M.
Ambience is Good, Seems to be expensive for that food.
(3)Kelly K.
I will preface this by saying I've only had Indian food twice now - so I'm comparing this experience to my first experience. The Bukhara blows the other place out of the water. The food was outstanding - I had the chicken vindaloo and my husband had the chicken tikka masala - and both were absolutely delicious. We just moved to this area and knew The Bukhara was there, but probably wouldn't have gone so soon without the awesome Groupon special happening right now. It was hard to pass up, and I'm so glad we didn't! The restaurant itself is very small, so I'd recommend making reservations regardless of what night you're going (they're on OpenTable, so why not get some extra points?) The only sort of weird thing that happened was the waiter pretty much only addressed my husband when he spoke to us - I thought it was a little strange, but its not really something that would keep me from having the food here again.
(5)Emily N.
This place has great prices, really generous serving sizes and everything was delicious. We drive 20 minutes just to grab takeout. Totally worth it.
(5)Esther W.
This place is a solid restaurant if you're craving Indian food. I've dined in and have gotten carry-out through Yelp's EAT24 a few times now. (I can't help but to praise EAT24, it is super easy and convenient to order food from!) I love their Gobi Taka Tak (cauliflower and potatoes) and vindaloo dishes. The meat (I've only tried chicken or lamb so far) are always perfectly cooked and juicy. One gripe I have was that I found a giant piece of ginger in my vegetarian samosa; whole chunks of ginger automatically triggers my gag reflex unfortunately. Other than that, I thoroughly enjoy the dishes because the sauces are cooked to perfection.
(4)Sarah B.
This restaurant popped up on my yelp when I was a couple miles away. I decided to try it for a later lunch. I got the buffet. It had standards like butter chicken, tandoori chicken, dal etc. These standards were excellent. It also had some nice vegetarian dishes like a spinach and corn paneer (hope I remember right) and something with green beans. The only thing I did not care for was a chickpea dish, but it was spicy for me and the flavor profile was off for me. Even though it was almost 2 and I was the only one there, the food tasted fresh. They brought me hot bread which was excellent too. The staff was professional and attentive. They brought me a very pleasant masala chai after I ate. The restaurant was clean and pleasant. I recommend this restaurant an would definitely go back.
(5)Sony S.
Went for the lunch today ( weekend)! Surprised to see cholley bahture and Pani puri on the buffet . Fish malabar and saag paneer were the best. Cabbage Masala was the new item. I don't know what the review by Helen meant because I did not see any oil in gulab jamun coz it was in sugar syrup only as far as I know. As I know their weekend buffet is always 11.95 and weekday buffet is 9.95. By far it is the best buffet in Mo Co.

Bukhara is among very few restaurant near AMC theater which are open until 11pm. We came out at 10;20 from the movies and decided to grab a bite here. The place is very warm and the servers were really friendly. They did warn us that the kitchen will be closed in 15 mins. There are some outdoor seating as well which are perfect for nice weather. There are some really good vegetarian options. I decided to order Veg jalfrezi with garlic naan and I wasn't disappointed. The food was really fresh and fragrant. The waiter even incorporated my request of making it spicy and it was apt to my taste.I would definately visit there again to try different options.

Service and ambience was great and the food was excellent. We had the palak paneer and chicken tikka masala and garlic naan. The chicken tikka masala was not as creamy as others ive had before, but the sauce ingredients were fresh and very flavorful. My wife said the palak paneeer was perfect. Garlic naan was really good too! Will definitely come back!

Yeah man this place is pretty good man. Four of my co-workers and I came here for the lunch buffet today, a Friday. We all liked the food. They have many vegetarian/vegan options, including mushroom jalfrezi, aloo gobhi, dal makhani, some spicy gentrifying noodle dish, and vegetable pakora. I don't remember the meat options because I don't eat that shit. Don't get the mushroom jalfrezi. Jalfrezi is a code word for scraps. I ate it anyways because it's healthy. The aloo gobhi is better here than that of your average Indian buffet. Those were some big chunks of cauliflower. The dal makhani included black lentils and kidney beans. It was in this interesting pot, and one used a ladle to scoop it out onto one's square plate. Be sure you don't spill the beans, even though it's fun to spill the beans. The spicy noodle dish consists of spaghetti, carrots, broccoli, and cauliflower. They put in some of that spicy red chili to add heat. I don't recommend this dish. Real Indians don't eat spaghetti. The vegetable pakoras were great. These pakoras are fried cauliflowers and okra. Try these! On your way out, they've got the fennel seeds with mints to spoon into your hand. At Rasika, they spoon feed the fennel from a 5th century bronze Gupta bowl into your mouth, but this place is thankfully less formal. Bukhara does have pleasant paintings on the walls.

I took a short walk over from USG to Bukhara for lunch. From 11:30am - 3:00pm they have a lunch buffet for $9.95. You can order menu items, but it seems as if they would prefer that you eat from the buffet. For the most part, their food was pretty good (flavorful). However, they did not have very many meat options for lunch. Their Chicken Tandoori was very good! I would strongly suggest it for an entree! Their naan was good, as well. I haven't been to very many places with good naan bread. They have a great YELP deal for two (Buy One Entree, get one entree 1/2 off!)

Fantastic Indian cuisine with many options for vegetarians and meat lovers. The quality of food from the lunch buffet to dinner is noticeably different. Lunch buffet is excellent with plenty of dishes to choose from (my favorite is butter chicken and their okra dish). As for their dinner, wow! Seriously, dinner at Bukhara will leave you surprised and satisfied. You will not be disappointed here. The service here is some of the best service you will get, regardless of when you come here. Bottom line: 1) Food = Phenomenal! (especially dinner) 2) Ambiance = Just right (calm, slightly dark, clean) 3) Service = Exceptional (seriously, they're on point) 4) Price = Absolutely fair (it feels like $$$$ when its just $$) 5) Worth visiting again? = YES, be confident that you can bring just about anyone here and they will leave satisfied.

I've been to Bukhara a couple of times, and the food is what I would call "decent" Indian fare. The restaurant itself has an old-fashioned, quiet ambiance, and the servers are generally very polite and will be happy to customize the food according to your specifications. Also, another good thing is that unlike most other restaurants which close at 9 or 10, Bukhara is open till 11 PM on most days. From the menu, I've tried the chicken kadhai, the chicken tikka masala and the keema naan. All of these dishes are pretty much standard fare, wherein I can't really point out anything wrong with them, but at the same time, they're not exceptional either. Overall, a decent place to grab some Indian food late at night.

I'm a pretty big fan of indian food so we decided to try this place for weekend buffet. The variety of dishes are just okay- they have the regular staples likes chicken tikka masala (which is more tomato-y than other places), tandoori chicken, and the creamed spinach dish. The curry goat was pretty good. But the gulab jamun (sweet dough in syrup) was kind of dry and more oily than sweet. And they do NOT include chai tea or coffee in their buffet. As there are other indian places that do include those and mango lassi as well, I was a bit disappointed. By the way, they raised their prices. Weekend buffet is now $11.95.

Nice surprise on a Friday night. Appetizers were naturally spicy. We requested the dishes be Hot and they were fairly mild. Would order Indian Hot next time. Unfortunately I didn't get a detailed receipt so I cant detail the dishes. Just go and enjoy and wash it down with Kingfisher Beer!

Food was incredible! Best Chicken Tikka in town! Highly recommend trying this place if you love authentic Indian food. Restaurant is clean and service was good.

Good food. Ordered the lamp chops and onion salad. The onion salad was a big thumbs down. It was literally onions and a piece of lime. The server kept hawking us down and rushing us. Although I had a big birthday hat on, he clearly made no attempt to offer us the birthday special. The "water lady" didn't understand one word we said and simply get over filing our cups. The food is pretty good but the service was odd. I prefer eating my food without someone staring at me!

My wife and I went here for dinner last night. I am still in search for a perfect curry since my move to the US from England, and this place is probably the best I've tried so far. I had vegetable samosas and the chicken vindaloo with a naan. The samosas were excellent with just the right amount of spice and great flavor. The vindaloo had a great flavor with a lot of spice (as I expect with a vindaloo) and a creamy sauce. The naan was buttery but otherwise nothing too special. My wife had the Dal Shorba which she said was creamy, flavorful and delicious, followed by the chicken korma, which she also really enjoyed. Prices were good for the amount of food we received, $60 for 2 and we have enough for dinner tonight as well. Not quite 5 star worthy because I am holding them to my "English curry restaurant" standard, but we will definitely return here. Finally just a note to praise the friendly and attentive service from the guy I'm assuming is the manager, he made sure we were happy with everything frequently which we appreciated.

Best Indian restaurant I've had in MoCo. Atmosphere is clean and nice. Food was extremely fresh. Meats were tender and veggies were fresh (not limp). Had great taste. Naan was fresh. Easy to chew and not smothered in butter. Food was hot (temperature) and stayed that way. Spice was was how I asked for it. Salt was on the light side but I prefer it that way. Salt is a cheat ingredient when your food isn't so good. Price is fair compared to competitors. I'll take this over Minerva, Spice Xing, Tandoori Nights in upper MoCo.

Delicious. Came here because of a great Yelp! check-in offer (buy one entree, get a second at 50% off), left a fully satisfied customer. Great customer service and awesome Indian cuisine. Ordered the Chicken Vindaloo and Chicken Makhani, along with some Garlic Naan and a Mango Lassi. No complaints whatsoever. I love a spicy Vindaloo, and this did not disappoint. Not the spiciest I've ever had, but not mild in the least. Garlic Naan was delicious and on point. Will definitely be coming back here and judging by other reviews, the lunch buffet appears to be a great thing to try. I'd have to say this is one of the, if not the, best Indian restaurant in MoCo IMO. Would also highly recommend Bombay Bistro in Rockville. Tandoori Nights in the Kentlands (Gaithersburg) is okay but there are definitely better options at lower price points.

Great food, but not always honoring vouchers.. you have to ask them during what time they will "accept" groupon and livingsocial deals.

Had carry out from here the food was really good! Now I need to go to the restaurant and try dining in! Looking forward to my experience. :)

Lunch buffet was fresh, hot and yummy! I was in the mood for Middle Eastern food and was delighted by The Bukara. Will definitely be coming back!

In my humble opinion this is the best Indian restaurant in Montgomery County. My husband and I went there on a Wednesday evening at around 7pm. We were impressed with the décor and the friendly service, but were a little worried when we saw we were only one of 2 couples there. We started with Hosharpuri Tikki which we have never seen anywhere before. It was a stuffed potato patty with great flavors that made your mouth pop! It was excellent. For our entrées I had the Lamb Vindaloo and my husband had the Lamb Curry. Our waiter asked us how spicy we wanted our entrées (we both like spicy but spicy to an American spicy is different to Indian spicy) so our waiter suggested medium which was perfect for us. Spicy with tender lamb pieces. Again Excellent! We ordered Naan with our dinner and it was fresh, hot and tender. We had Gulab Jamun for dessert which was light and not too sweet. What a perfect end to a perfect meal. We had no complaints, food was excellent, service was attentive. I would highly recommend it. We are planning to try their weekend lunch buffet next time.

Good food compared to its peers in dc metro area. I had butter chicken, malai kofta and veg manchurian. Veg kofta wasn't good but the meat in butter chicken was tender and well made but a little more on the sweet side. Veg manchurian was also good and is indo Chinese style.

3.5 stars; pretty good Indian food. I ordered takeout today and got the trio bread, chicken tikka masala and lamb vindaloo. I really liked the chicken tikka masala and the sauce was really flavorful. The lamb vindaloo was not so good. I asked for spicy but it was very mild and had a tomato flavor which was unusual compared to other vindaloos I've had. The naan was good and I really liked the garlic naan. I would go back to try other dishes.
(3)Asim S.
Lousy food...kebabs were dry, karahi gosht was tasteless, shrimp tandoori was lousy. ..only reason I am giving 2 stars is for the veg manchurian appetizer..you can safely skip this restaurant

We were looking for places around when we came across this restaurant. It was not too that this place started up but for that matter it had good reviews. The ambience was great, different from other Indian places that were around. We ordered Tandoori chicken and Chicken Kebabs. The presentation was good. I really liked the tandoori.. It was well done and tasty. The kebabs were good too but I just felt it could have been little more spicy ( it's a personal choice I guess). The servers were cordial and responsive. For the main course We ordered shrimp Kadai and chicken curry. The food was good overall and I would recommend this place.

The quality of the food is outstanding. Fruit naan is awesome. Masala chai is off the charts. You can tell everything is fresh and homemade. Service is very attentive and friendly. Awesome find!!

Food and service are always amazing! We love it here! In all seriousness I have never ever had a bad dinner here. The prices are great and my water glass is never empty, the serves are attentive and on Sunday's they have a great brunch sampling. My whole family enjoys coming here because we can share dishes and enjoy them together in a nice atmosphere that is never too loud. Hands down this is my favorite Indian restaurant in the area!
(5)Nadia P.
The buffet is amazing and really cheap. Its only 9.95 on the weekdays which is a steal!

I came with a couple of friends and a Groupon, which made it worthwhile, but I don't think I'll be back. The food was just okay: I always get palak paneer, which was kind of watery and not very flavorful here. We also got the okra, which I prefer a little drier and less slimy. The chickpea dish was probably my favorite. All the entrees were around $13, which was reasonable. Their bread was really yummy, though I always feel like garlic naan could be a little more garlicky (I have a garlic problem). We go the bread basket, which was three types of bread for $9, as opposed to the $4-5 they would cost individually. We got the onion kulcha (bread filled with onions) and mint paratha (not very minty but I am told that's how it's supposed to be). The wait staff was attentive and friendly during the meal. After we ate, we lingered for a while after paying our bill and they were still really nice about refilling out water and not rushing us out.

Delicious Indian food! We ordered the vegetarian samosas which had a delicious kick and for our main course had the chicken makhani (amazing!), chicken tikka masala (also delish) and the lamb rogan josh. The only plate I didn't love was the paleg paneer but the other dishes were so flavorful I would return to this restaurant without thinking twice.

We had malai chicken as an appetizer..............Just awesome...... Came on a sizzler white meat with sizzled lettuce.......best ever. Papri chat was very good........one of the best Mango lassi. Servers were very courteous and attentive. ***** service and ***** food
(5)Ellen D.
Good food. Good service. Nice buffet. I appreciate getting naan when I first arrive (and they are happy to accommodate my no-butter request). Never feel rushed in there. I go there weekly and look forward to it.
(4)Maryam F.
Loved the food. Service was perfect. Waiter was really nice , polite, helpful advising and helping to order. Setting was nice. Dishes were delicious and portions were very big. I wish we didn't order appetizer so we could finish our food. And the garlic naan was exceptional .

It's never busy but we love it. Classic Indian food that's always delicious! If you've never tried Indian before, i suggest the chicken tikka masala. Always delicious!!

The wait staff has great phone manners and very courteous in person, for takeout orders. We ordered Tava scallops; Bukhara Ka Nazaro; Palak Paneer; Dal Bukhara. The prices were reasonable and the portions were huge. The Bukhara Ka Nazaro is a ridiculous deal for $20. The overall price was less than $70 w/tip, which great for a family of 5. You should not be disappointed ordering a reasonable priced tasty meal from Bukhara.

We came to dinner at Bukhara on an Amazon Local coupon. I made a reservation since I figured Saturday nights are often busy. However, our reservation wasn't on the list so we had to wait a bit. It was kind of irritating at first, but the staff/manager were all so nice and tried really hard to accommodate so all was well -mistakes happen. The manager further amended the reservation issue by giving us mango lassis on the house. And, yes, free mango lassis make everything better. :) We ordered assorted breads, the Bukhara Ka Nazara and the Seafood Sampler so we could have an assortment of meats. I liked the Seafood Sampler a lot. Both platters came out sizzling and everything was incredibly tasty and tender. My only complaint is the dishes were a bit salty - but nothing that stopped me from eating more! The staff was very nice and even offered a bowl of sauce in case we found the meats dry (which they weren't), but nobody turns down sauce from an Indian restaurant! I'll definitely be back and highly recommend the restaurant.
(4)JJ R.
I love this little place. I come here for the lunch buffet on the reg. With unlimited freshly prepared naan and delicious food, the buffet is a great price and tastes great for what it's worth.
(4)Vivek P.
Plus: Nan's were well made. Tomato shorba is good too. Minus: food quality and taste is pretty average. It looked like they used the same gravy base in each of our dish. Service in terms of interaction, response etc was below average though food came on time.
(2)Emile H.
Some of the best Indian food in Rockville, especially the lunch buffet. The Paneer Bukhara, and palak paneer are a favorites of mine. I also like the masala tea and mango lassi's. Service is excellent if you go on a weekday or quiet time and varies a bit more when they get very busy.
(5)Tamara M.
Overall this restaurant offers good quality Indian food that I'll take over some of the shabby Indian restaurants in the area any day. At the same time, however, it's reasonably priced which makes it more feasible for the budget as opposed to the prices you'll pay for a gourmet Indian restaurant. So far I've tried the chicken saag, chicken makhani, chicken vindaloo and chicken korma; all deliciously prepared, light, and non-greasy. My only qualm with these chicken dishes is that while they're all made from bones less chicken pieces, they use the dark meat as opposed to chicken breast. I'm slightly disappointed in that, but they make up for it in their fluffy rice that has a crunchy onion topping and rave naan! I could eat their naan everyday!! The service is good and if you arrive right after the lunch crowd it's exceptional; I guess because less tables to wait on means more emphasis on the ones you have. The ambience could be better, especially the bathrooms. I love the dark tables and chairs but the wall art-portraits of men I don't recognize-is kind of off putting....in order to access the bathrooms you pass right by the kitchen which has a closed door, but often staff are hanging out in the back room where the bathrooms are, plus it looks and feels like a closet. With just a few more improvements, this place could earn another star from me!
(3)Zara K.
Naan is terribly average let me clarify that. Now with the food, buffet looked alright better than most places usually im really put off by Indian buffets. Place is very clean so that's awesome ! Malai kebab(which I fail to understand why they don't call it malai boti) was standard but better than Bombay bistro ! Boti kebab (lamb boti) was quite alright for lamb ! Food shudve been a little spicier and the chicken should have been better quality ! Overall decent experience ! Might go again , might not ! P.s I am a notorious Pakistani Indian food critic my mother is scared of me . Best out of the home experiences with desi (Indian and Pakistani) food iv had has been saloos in london , dam pukht and andaaz in Lahore . And the malai kebab Only at curry mantra ,va. Hope that helps !
