I love going here. Anytime someone comes into town and wants to go have sushi I make sure we stop at Sushi Oishii. Every single one of there Special Rolls is fantastic. It is pretty expensive, but its good sushi...very worth it.

Fantastic! Sushi was the hot fire! And you will sell a child for blood orange mascarpone mousse! Highly recommended!

WOW! Tried this place for the first time last night, we came with a group of 6, i had made reservations and our table was waiting for us. We were attended to very quickly and served with professionalism. Ricky is the man! He is the sushi chef and he knows what he is talking about, so passionate about sushi and what he does. We had oyster shooters... YUM YUM! Our table was right in front of Ricky and we enjoyed all of his recommendations. I just moved to the area from CA and I have been really looking for a good sushi spot and I have to say I have found it! Ricky is the best! Our whole group agreed that this was the best sushi place we have been. This is going to be our regular spot. Can't wait for our next visit.

One of my colleagues at work suggested this place for lunch. It was close to my work place, so went there for lunch on a week-day. I have tried their $8.99 lunch special which is a miso soup, salad and two rolls of your choice sushi. I was not disappointed. Sushi was great ! Would definitely go there again to try their other menu items.

I LOVE this restaurant!!!!!!! I went with with a large group, and everyone left this place with rave reviews. We're definitely coming back! The sushi is fresh, the rolls are unique (not just the standard rolls that every sushi restaurant offers), and the staff is really friendly.

Really good sushi for a great price. Rolls came out tightly rolled and evenly cut (I can't stand odds-and-ends sticking out and a roll cut into uneven pieces). Sashimi is fresh and flavorful. Even brought out kiddie plate and "training" chopsticks for our little guy.

I've had better sushi, I'm not sure what was off but it's not worth the money. The presentation of the food were very beautiful. The salmon skin roll isn't as crunchy as I would like it. But the service was awesome.

Ordered delivery and gotta say, sooooo good!!! Sushi was fresh, gyozas are amazing, and crab and cucumber salad is just delicious! Highly recommend and will be back!

This restaurant still continues to amaze and has recently introduced a $8.95 lunch special that includes a sop, salad and 2 sushi rolls ( 2 into 6 pieces) And that makes a great meal and you can take out some of it . If you prefer a Bento box that is till an excellent choice

Since Ricky has arrived, Sushi Oishii has become one of the best Sushi restaurants in the entire DC region. They have an extensive selection of fish, including daily specials that you won't find elsewhere. For lunch the other day, they had Ocean Trout, Sea Eel, Amberjack, and two different types of Sea Bream - Just for example. We ordered a selection of Nigiri and everything was amazingly fresh and well presented. Ricky arranged the fish by flavor (fishiness) and came to our table to explain what was what, the flavor of each and suggested an order to eat them. Each piece was enhanced with matching garnish (miso, wasabi, scallion, Japanese lemon). One of the best sushi meals that I have had.

Sushi Oishii is very tranquil and modern, and feels like a laidback version of Sushi Damo. On Sunday night it was empty, so the service was really attentive and nice. We were immediately provided all drinks of choice. Their tea is an herbal one with rice in it (FYI not free). Specialty rolls will run you around $12, regular rolls $4-5, and entrees near $20 except for the noodle dishes. Right away we were given the free appetizer of osaka yaki (essentially tempura batter flakes with mayo drizzle and dried bonito flakes). Anything fried and creamy is heavenly. Then, we noticed the chalkboard that said to checkin for something "special," and we were then given a fried tuna roll. Double freebie--fred again, too. But I was starting to get the feeling that pretty much everything would be masked in dressing or fried goodness. And that out of a sushi place always concerns me. Our entrees consisted of the udon soup and yakisoba. The udon soup is delivered in a nice clay pot, with tempura in a side plate (very nice that they did this since it always oversoaks in broth). Unfortunately, everything was bland. The broth itself was light and tasty, but sliced up fish cakes and chunks of chicken had no flavor. A minor annoyance was that the clam shells were all mangled up. The yakisoba was a very large helping for $11, but you can't mess up ramen noodles stirfried in good sauce. Wish it had more chicken in it. The free salad was standard, but dressing tasted like soda. My bowl of miso soup only had two 1cm bites of tofu. I sad. Finally, the koi roll sounded very appetizing on the menu with so many types of fish and the "Japanese pesto," but it failed to wow me in freshness. The rice was cold/hard, and salmon pieces were thin slivers. A decent roll, but I just can't justify spending $13 on it when you can get a huge fresh version elsewhere. Really offputting was the shrimp nigiri...the shrimp had been so drenched in vinegar that it was soggy and starchy. At the end, they delivered a very beautiful plate of two fried banana pieces, cream and popped rice, which was quite delicious--and even more delicious since it was free. A very nice gesture. But, overall, prices are high with great service and presentations to justify, but taste and ingredient quality misses the mark. May be have been woo'ed back to try something else thanks to the freebies, but the freebie-high cannot last forever.

We went here on the recommendation of a neighbor, and are we glad we did! Outstanding service. Pleasant, but not overdone atmosphere. We tried a couple of rolls, some sashimi and miso soup. All were excellent, on a par with any of the better sushi places we've visited, including New York and San Francisco. Can't wait to go back and sample some of the other offerings on the menu.

I feel like this place is closed way more than it is open.. Every time I try to get lunch from here it's closed not sure why the sushi is really good! The people are also friendly, I will continue to come as long as they open

People! If you are a foodie like me this is one of the real hidden gems of the area!! If you want to order blah blah lunch special two rolls and soup for 9 bucks, then whatever be my guest all sushi places are the same. However if you allow Chef Ricky to choose some specials of the day for you I can tell you most things you will never have had before and you can't get anywhere else. Some of his fish comes straight from the Japanese markets and they are the real deal. You will never know about these unless you ask and only some of them are on the specials board. I go here all the time now and even to curb my French foi gras craving. You heard me correctly, some of the best seared foi gras you can get anywhere and around 15 bucks half the price of most places!!! Try it as seared sushi with rice or as goo goo goo with tofu. Please I promise you won't be disappointed. Also, they usually have amazing toro, leave the regular tuna for someone else. Some of my favorite specials are the fish jaws like tuna, snapper, or yellowtail. I even hesitate to mention them here since they only have a few a night but get them if they have them and enjoy picking out some of the best head meat you'll find. I know for some it sounds eeeww, but it's tasty and really fun to try. You can ask for deep fried fish bones and it's like eating the tastiest fish chips you can imagine. Anyway, get your butt over to this place and try not to order off menu.....decent sake selection too and best of all it's a local neighborhood joint so it only takes a few trips to get recognized and treated like royalty and there's never a wait even fri/sat nights!!

kind of overpriced for a sushi restaurant that is not really near anywhere. The fish was really fresh though. I went with a group of 10 people and they were very attentive to our table (probably because there weren't that many other customers that night).

The Godzilla roll and Crazy Eel roll were outstanding. If I had to eat just those two rolls for the rest of my life, I think I'd be happy. The California roll wasn't great, which is weird because that's a sushi staple. But the draw here is the special roll menu - I'd stick to that if you want some really delicious, varied sushi. You won't be disappointed. Also, the entire staff is very friendly - our server checked on us multiple times (without being annoying about it) and she didn't make us feel like we were just another table to be turned. Loved it!

We popped in for a quick dinner before grocery shopping across the street. At 6:30 on a Monday night the only other person was a single guy at the bar. They brought us two dishes on the house. Not sure if this is their norm or if its because no one else was there. One was a calamari dish that my fiance said was pretty bland (I don't eat calamari). The other dish was a white fish tempura. Fiance said it was better than the calamari but not great. I got edamame which were nice and salty and hot but not cooked enough. I also ordered the veggie tempura appetizer which was huge and delicious. Great value - about 10-12 pieces for $6. My favorite was the red pepper. I've never had bell pepper tempura before but the sweetness of the red pepper with the saltiness of the tempura sauce was amazing. I also ordered a spicy salmon roll. Usually when I order this it has cucumber in it but this was just salmon mush which meant it fell apart when I picked it up with chopsticks. My fiancée got the fantasy roll. Honestly one if the prettiest dishes I've ever seen. He said it had too much roe on top and overpowered the taste of everything else. We probably won't be back but if we did would order mostly different items.

I'd like to give this restaurant 3.5 stars. The food is good, the selection from the sushi bar is average. I haven't been to enough sushi places on the east coast, but I'm finding the selection to be a bit limited when ordering sushi/sashimi in comparison to what I could find in California. Rolls, miso soup, salad, and the sushi that can be gotten are all excellently made, very fresh, very tasty. They didn't do baked scallops and they also didn't have any red snapper on hand that day, both things that I was craving. The salmon, tuna, spicy tuna and handroll were all wonderful. I'd go back here, but if you're a sushi snob, it may not be enough for you. I thought the place was a little on the pricey side, but I also ordered a large sake and got the green tea ice cream for dessert.

After waiting a while at packed Cava Mezze on a cold January night, we decided we were too hungry to continue staring at the snooty hostesses. Immediately, Sushi Oiishi came to mind. I had been here before and vaguely remembered that the food was good... For a Saturday evening, Oishii was pretty empty. But then again, it shares a shopping center with other restaurants, including Cava. We were warmly greeted by the smiling staff adorning kimono-inspired uniforms. The restaurant has a beautiful, wooden decor. Although not big, it felt spacious. The atmosphere here is serene, cozy, and comfortable. We ordered a bunch of dishes to share, most were delicious. The ingredients are fresh for the most part. Here is what I recommend: Appetizer: kani kara agé batter-fried soft shell crab & baked mussels with tobiko sauce Sushi: crazy oishii, soft shell crab, tango, and crystal rolls Sushi Oishii also carries a bigger selection of sake than most other japanese restaurants in the area. The pricing here is moderately high, comparable to Niwano Hana (my second favorite Japanese restaurant in Rockville). Both places offer great food, but completely dfifferent atmosphere. While Niwano is cramped and loud, Oishii is bigger and quiet. Only my second time here but won't be the last. Service and food were great. Highly recommended.

All the non 5-star ratings of this place are dead wrong. Everything you could want in a sushi place, Oishii has in spades: great service, friendly people, superb fish quality, and excellent variety and selection. They always give me a free appetizer that sorta tastes like tempura burger toppings w/o the meat, and a free dessert of tempura banana balls, Smacks cereal, banana cream, and whipped cream--very good! As for sushi, I highly recommend the fatty tuna and smoked salmon nigiri (also the four gras nigiri is a neat, unique offering!), and the Kimono Roll and pretty much all other mostly fish and little flashiness rolls. Everything comes together perfectly and I have never ONCE been disappointed.

Became my new favorite sushi place in the (very general) area - we used to be hardcore loyalists to Matuba in Bethesda. I've now been to OISHII 3 times. The salmon sashimi was succulent, flavorful, and superfresh (so good we had to order a 2nd round of it for 'dessert.' The inner beauty roll (i think thats the name) has spicy salmon inside and was also so good we needed a round 2. Eel was wonderful, scallop delish as well.

Sometimes, just sometimes...a restaurant gets it right. Sushi has become as synonymous in the Metro area as Chili Dogs has with 7-11's. (Though, i'm not sure that's a good thing, per se). There's the over priced sushi places, There's the over compensating for bad sushi with an even worse buffet, there's the sushi places that are all pomp and circumstance...then there's Sushi Oishii. A place that may actually live up to there name. Atmosphere: Pleasant, modern...as if a grad student from an art college took the time to bring homage from the east and west. Hmmm. After work crowd from Rockville/Shady Grove's finest. Ok, a lot of suits and local folks. Food: Fresh, quality fish from...well...everywhere. Let's be real here... sushi restaurants get's fresh fish everyday...if they don't...run or call a doctor. Sashimi as fresh as it gets...I had a Mirogai Clam with fresh kiwi that had my head spinning. I had incredibly fresh uni, tuna (blue fin... not that yellow fin crap that only the uneducated and the wimpy eat.) Just kidding...They guys do yellow fin just as well. Their rolls are just as nice...try the Tokyo or the Geisha roll. Drinks/Bar: They have a limited bar, but what they have they do nicely. Service/Staff: nice folks...Kimonos...gotta love the nod to old school. Price: medium to high depending on what you get. Return rate: For Sushi in Rockville/Shady Grove....you will not do any better. This is east meets west. Bottom Line: I like this place....I love sushi...I have an affair with it...I left people for good sushi...these guys are good.

I got the Saki Don-salmon sashimi on rice which comes with a salad and miso soup. This is by far the freshest salmon sashimi I've have in MD. The miso soup was really good. The saki don costs $20; I guess it's reasonable for the quality. The staff there are really nice and attentive. They even gave us appetizers on the house.

One of the more unique sushi restaurants in the area at a more reasonable price. Wide variety of both standard rolls and specialty rolls in addition to the regular non-sushi menu. Decor was standard Japanese flair with the kimono-clad waitresses friendly and attentive. I'd keep this place in mind for standard carry-out and if I'm in the Shady Grove neighborhood looking for sushi.

I came here for lunch and got their $12.50 lunch special which was 2 rolls of sushi with a salad and miso soup. The sushi was very simple with a huge hunk of fish with minimal rice. The fish was fresh. I would have liked a little more for my money, or maybe I'm just accustomed to getting more full on sushi for $12.50. It was a decent, satisfying meal but I think I would go to other places to satiate my sushi cravings. My friend got the tempura special which also came with a salad a miso soup. Not really anything that impressive either.

Decent food, pricey, but poor service. 2.5 stars... I round down to 2 - though my family enjoyed their dinners, mine never came out and I ended up going home hungry. Maybe I'm a stickler, but there are a lot of Sushi joints run by non-Japanese... not necessarily a bad thing, but I grew up in Japan. This place is run by Chinese... in case that influences your choice of places to eat Japanese food.... Dinner on a Sunday night. Second time here, walked in knowing it's a little pricey. Somehow my son (9 yrs old) ends up ordering the most food (and most expensive!). Chicken Teriyaki + gyoza. The Gyoza is very unique - pan-fried with a "crust" that covers all of them. if you like crispy, fried stuff, this is for you. (gyoza = jiao-tzu, mandoo or "dumplings"). They offered us a free appetizer dish... fried something. Looked like a tempura vegetable / fish dish... I didn't know what it was. but it was tasty! Rolls and sushi were good... but took a long time. The place was about half-full, there were three sushi chefs working non-stop. But our food still took a long time. The waitress apologized that it was taking so long, she said that there were many sushi orders. Isn't this a sushi restaurant... isn't that what they are SUPPOSED to do? After maybe 40 mins waiting for my tekka-don (maguro over rice bowl...), I asked them to cancel. Waitress says that the chefs are already making it so we can't. So I wait a little bit longer, don't see it come out, and stand up and go to the sushi chefs to see if they have a tekka-don in progress. No tekka-don... so the waitress lied? They took 20% off the bill of the food we did get and asked us to come back. A nice gesture... May go back because it's close, but Niwano Hana is very good (tho also run by Chinese). Yuraku is another strong contender in the area (but run by Koreans).

My husband and I had a really good time here. Their special rolls are unique and tasty. We ordered Tokyo Rolls and we like them a lot! The Entree was good, too. They server Teriyaki Beef on a hot plate and bring it while it is making a grilling sound. They served a couple of on-the-house items, too, which we also liked. Their miso soup is actually the best among all Japanese restaurants I have recently visited in this area. I feel no MSG used there, which is kind of rare for the place with this price range. We were pretty happy with the waiters/waitresses service, too. Thumbs up!

This place is a nice cozy little restaurant, tucked away on the north side of Rockville. We went here with a party of 14 on a Saturday evening, but later than normal. The servers did not rush us as we were chatting away and slowly looking at their extensive menu of rolls, specialty rolls, entrees, apps, and a handful of things unique items listed on the whiteboard. Prices here are on the hefty side, at least in my opinion, but you get good quality fish and creativity. Personally, I had the spicy tuna roll, which was decent, as the seasoning did not over power the tuna itself. You can tell the fish was not 80 days frozen. I also had their japaleno hamachi, which was a simple yellowtail roll with a slice of raw jalapeno on top. Wifey had the sakura roll, which was very well presented. As I looked around the table at the other rolls, they all had a nice presentation to them. On the other side of the party table, there was a beef teriyaki ordered, which came on a hot platter, served with tons of veggies and a bowl of rice. Another companion got the udon, which I did not taste, but they told me that the broth is pretty good and not your average broth at other spots. Overall, would I go back here? No, not because the food or service was bad, but because the prices are a higher than other places in the area. The atmosphere is rather nice here though, so if you're into that, I'd recommend this cozy place. If they had a happy hour for rolls and Japanese beer, I'd come back, maybe. Otherwise, find me further north at another place, which I've already reviewed.

Finally after ~2 months of staring at the take-out menu and deciding whether or not to take myself out to "Just another sushi place" i managed to haul myself over to Sushi Oishii. Being a sushi lover and veteran I am often unimpressed with the repetitive tastes of simple sushi hole-in-the-walls. This is not one of them. We walked in near the beginning of lunchtime and managed to be seated right away. Immediately we were served drinks. Our fine waiter then brought us a complimentary Tempura White Fish Appetizer which we devoured in no time. The Miso soup and Ginger salad were simple yet pleasant. My lunch special order of avacado roll and assorted sashimi was presented beautifully and with healthy portions. To top it all off we were given a Tempura Ice Cream dessert (again by our phenomenal waiter). Having fulfilled my guilty sushi pleasures I rolled myself out of there with a big smile on my face. Definatly headed back.

What a great experience! I walked in for a quick lunch today, by my self. I was immediately greeted by every staff member, they had huge smiles on their face and were sincerely gracious. I have never felt so welcomed walking into a restaurant, ever. I took my seat at the sushi bar, the chef greeted me with a smile and a witty one liner. I ordered a spicy tuna roll, an eel roll, and a bowl of miso soup. The food was fantastic, quick and had great texture. I eat sushi about one to two times per week all over the DC area, and this was by far in the top 5 experiences I have had. After my meal, I paid and went on my way, but, before I left, the entire staff said good bye and thank you. It was awesome! Please check this place out, they're great!

I come here regularly for dinners and am constantly surprised that more people don't know about this gem. Sushi Oishii is one of the very best sushi restaurants in the Rockville region. The fish is always fresh. Portions are generous. The rolls are creative and taste amazing. Presentation is excellent and the staff always friendly. I've eaten at all the more popular places around Rockville and Bethesda... Sushi Oishii is as good as any, and better than most.

They follow the Japanese in terms of attire but fail to follow up on proper service. Trying to get a recommendation for sake took 2 waitresses, the first who had no idea what we were talking about and the second who seemed to just pick one at random. The sake ended up being pretty good, then again most sake is pretty good to me. The sushi on the other hand was fresh and very good for a place hidden in suburban Maryland from what I could tell. I could taste the freshness in the spicy tuna but only a hint of spiciness. The volcano roll had an awesome sauce, but it overpowered the roll completely. So much of it was spread on top of the sushi that I couldn't taste the fish at all, I wished they toned it down so I could taste a mix of everything. Hmmmm.... I'm wondering if I should bother asking them to go easy on the sauce next time - maybe I'll like it better than the actual roll itself?

You know how Yelp has a function where you can start a review and you can save for later? Whenever you log on though, it is staring right at your face, "you have # unfinished reviews." So for 2 weeks I've been trying to finish this review. It's not that I wanted to write a semi-novel or that I had so many details to work on, I just didn't know what to say. I mean the place was nicely decorated. The staff was reasonably accommodating but nothing spectacular about this place. The food was mediocre and bit over priced. A nice restaurant to go to if you live near here but don't make a special trip (like me, drove 1 hour) b/c it's not worth it. OK, that took 2 weeks. Sigh.

We love Sushi Oishii. While there are a few better places in DC (Sushi Taro being my favorite), no one can come even close to the quality/price combination of Sushi Oishii. And some of the fish (salmon, for one) is better quality than we've found anywhere else in the area.

  • Joan K.

Cute, convenient and cozy. It's pretty close to my house so the bf and I caught a quick dinner here a while back. They have 2 chalkboards where they write their sushi specials...and it was misleading b/c they were different. Some of the rolls were the same, some of them were different, some of them were the same but named differently...get it straight people! A TINY bit on the steep end on for a neighborhood sushi joint, but nothing alarming. Would I come back? Considering the plethora of sushi options around, only if I really needed sushi and was feeling pretttttyy lazy.

This place saved my life. 3 of us ran to this place after our shifts from the U.S. Open. It was 9.30pm and I was determined not to eat at a fast food place. In the hopes of getting something decent I decided to take a chance on Sushi Oishii. There were people in the place (soooo late). The proprietors greeted us with open arms. I was finally able to get a great meal of sashimi (super fresh for as late as it was!) while my friends wolfed down some awesome special rolls.

Sushi is good but extremely overpriced. They have the usual selection of rolls and nigiri..nothing special. Location is a bit in the middle of nowhere and the restaurant is usually empty. I want to write more but there's really not much to say.

I went here on a recommendation of a coworker. The sushi is A-OK (thus the three-star rating). The atmosphere is lovely. I love the out of the way location, and would take this place over Sushi Damo anyday. It's a decent place to go if you're trying to grab a bite to eat before class.

Good to very good for a neighborhood joint, friendly service, artful presentations, bordering on pricey for its location in a strip center with no appeal at all. That said, I'd rather pay a little more for consistently good food in a nice environment than get a bargain for mediocre food

I think I might have been at this place once before but it was so long ago I couldn't recall much. Decided to try this place again for lunch. The place was very empty when we got there around noon (indicative of bad business???) The waitress took a while before coming over to ask us what we wanted to drink. The food also took longer to come out even though there were only 2 other parties there at the time. We ordered the rainbow roll, and rock and roll ( I think, the one with spicy tuna on top), miso soup, one eel roll and california roll. The rolls tasted pretty decent but it was a little pricey. With what we paid, I rather go to my usual spot, Niwano Hana. I ordered hot tea and must admit it smelled pretty nice (burnt wheat kinda smell, rusty).

I go here twice a week now. The decor is beautiful, and the servers are very attentive. The whole ambiance is relaxing and it feels like you have escaped to Japan when you dine there. You are greeted and bid farewell with a collective Japanese "hello/goodbye". The sushi is very fresh and the lunches are well worth the price. The house salad is tangy and sweet. The fish is cut generously. The tempura comes with 2, yes TWO, shrimp! Save some room for dessert. They have the most amazing tempura ice cream. Love this place!!!!

Food was okay, nothing special, but the sushi... Fresh yes, but very bland. I don't generally like sushi that is over sauced, covered in crunchies, or overpriced. This is none of that... It's not over spiced, over sauced, over anything. It's under everything. Seriously fish and rice. I can do that myself, I want a bit of wasabi, some toasted sesame seeds, a garnish, something!?!

I love Japanese food. It is especially healthy and light in oil and the portion control is just the right amount to allow you to try different dishes. I grew up in the restaurant business, both Chinese and Japanese steakhouses and in New York City, aka the mecca of diverse cuisines, quality and at times, great bargain prices... Therefore, I know how to eat and I know quality when I see and taste it. My hobbies involve traveling around the world (China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, Indonesia, Italy, Netherlands, Germany, etc.) to try different foods and I have been to all the major cities in the US, always stopping in local restaurants to try their specialties. A friend introduced me to Sushi Oishii. It is a new restaurant right near the University of Maryland in Rockville, MD and within the Traville Village Center where there are several large businesses as well as residential complexes. The center itself is very quaint. The place is new and ready for someone like me, new to the DC-Maryland-Northern Virginia area, to explore. As I entered the restaurant, a young lady who happens to be the manager greeted me. Although young, she is extremely intuitive of customer's needs as she told me she grew up in the family business. Her greeting is in Japanese and I hope it meant 'welcome' since I don't know Japanese. The entrance foyer is beautifully decorated with a bamboo matted bench and a Japanese water garden with a small cascading waterfall and green vegetation. A little chalkboard displays the special of the day. The restaurant is not very large but large enough for several large parties with many tables to spare. There is also a good size sushi bar where you can watch the sushi chefs prepare your maki, sushi or sashimi with attention to detail in the cut and the presentation. Just a quick note on the tableware and utensils; there is no bamboo chopsticks to break apart. The utensils are all of good quality wood or ceramic and the tables and chairs are of genuine dark wood. It does make you feel that the owners are into quality and attention to detail. The menu is simple with a variety of selection in different categories from bento boxes to sushi and sashimi and udon noodles. Since I wanted to try the quality and freshness of the fish and to sample its tempura, I decided to order the lunch bento box sashimi special. The sashimi is fresh since I did not have a fishy after-taste. The sushi was just the right size to eat in one bite and held up without breaking apart. The tempura was lightly battered and not oily which is hard to find. In many Japanese restaurants, the tempura is overly battered and oily which meant they did not use the proper technique and used 'dirty or used' oil. My companion had the vegetarian sushi bento box. For a Japanese restaurant, it has a good selection for vegetarian. We finished our meal with Green Tea Mochii that was delicately chopped into 4 pieces. This was similar to many Japanese restaurants that I have been to. However, the happy ending was the Japanese Fried Ice Cream. It looked like a fluffy round tempura, which I think is what coated the outside of the ice cream. Inside the tempura battered shell was a layer of angel cake. This was smart as it prevented the ice cream from melting onto the tempura shell. The core was, of course, ice cream...a large enough scoop of sesame ice cream for two. We had hot green tea to wash everything down. The green tea was not pre-made but from tea bags. I guess that ensured the consistency of the green tea flavor for each cup. Service was decent since we took up the manager's time asking her questions on the quality and her family business. The waitress was attentive when we were not speaking with the manager. Overall, the quality, food and service are top-notch and should meet the standards of the food connoisseurs of the Rockville and DC area. Stop by Sushi Oishii in Rockville, MD and give it a try. BTW, the manager's name is Susan...or Sue. Tell her that I sent you. She will be delighted.

I came here for lunch once and thought the limited selection I had were good so I recommended this restaurant for someone who came in town from London. We wanted to be in neighborhood so this is the best sushi we could get. We started off with the snowy sake that had a milky consistency - it turned out there were particulate (intended) suspended in the drink as the drink was named supposedly but it was quite strange. The edamame were great, the salad and soup were very average. Then we had the leaky soy sauce problem that caused a spill on the table which the waitress didn't seem to care so we had to get another bottle ourselves. We ordered a series of rolls and a sashimi special. The sashimi was fresh and succulent. The checkered roll a combination of white and regular tuna was good as usual. The sushi rolls however, were quite disappointing. I cannot say I liked any of them including the tempura one - I think it had to do with the rice and the way everything was put together. Some of the sauces were salty - it's overdone sometimes. Leaving the sauce out might be better. We went there rather late so by the time we finished eating it was closing time and the waitress spared no time to send us the cheque. Not so chic afterall.

Very nice decor and the sushi was delicious. I had the tonkatsu and it was okay...a little over priced. Saw the teriyaki coming out in mini grills, so will try that next time.

I got some take out before class one night. Tried the shrimp tempura roll, the spicy tuna roll and the tuna roll. All three were pretty tasty and for take out, everything was still tasting fresh. Yes a bit pricey but really I'm willing to pay a little extra for good sushi. A new favorite!

Decent Sushi. nothing like the real thing in Japan, or even the west coast of the US, but a solid sushi joint. I would come here again!

Although the ambiance was classy and the restaurant was well-decorated (even the chop sticks were intricately designed and pretty to look at), the food was okay. The salad was tasty and the soup was pretty good, but the sushi was pretty average. On top of that, the portion sizes were small. The california rolls were not made the way I prefer since I prefer the style of california roll where the imitation crab meat is mixed and mashed with mayonnaise. All in all, the food was okay, but the ambiance was lovely.

Whenever I go for lunch it's always pretty slow here, which suits me fine. The staff take care of you and are attentive, which isn't really why I go to restaurants but is nice all the same. They manage not to do that annoying "hovering in your peripheral vision waiting for you to put a dish down so they can swoop in and seize it and spirit it away like they get a prize for it" thing, but they keep the tables cleared all the same. The sushi and sashimi on the other hand are terrific - succulent, fresh, and well done. Like every other upscale sushi restaurant in the area they have a wide array of crazy and inventive and definitely non-traditional rolls and whenever I've tried one of them it's been just fine, but that's not really my thing. They also have a full Japanese menu full of tempura and yakitori and other stuff that is good but I don't go to a sushi place to get. The quality of the fish itself, in nigiri or as sashimi, is what I care about and here it's always very good.

Surprisingly good sushi tucked away in a strip center in Rockville. It is more of a 3.5 but don't get me wrong, it is far and above better than I have had at other sushi restaurants along Rockville Pike. The waitstaff is attentive, there is take out if you desire, and the atmosphere is comfortable. Definitely worth a try.

pretty tastee sushi, fresh, above average, not the best but good great atmosphere and presentation but I'm here for the taste if your in the area anyways just go to ziki's, definitely the best in town

I was very excited to try this place because it has great lunch specials! However, I ended up being a little disappointed. I am very picky about my sushi including the cut of the fish. I will say the food was fresh; however, the rice was a little on the dry side (not soft and fluffy) which is a big one for me. I ordered a spicy tuna roll which was tasty. A boston roll which also was quite good, I like that they julienne the cucumber a tout to watching details. I was VERY disappointed in my alaska roll, salmon, cucumber, and avocado. They used the trimmings of the salmon from other rolls, sort of balled up in the roll and it was stringy and tough and did not taste as fresh. I actually picked it out. In a roll, it should be one thick cut piece, not the leavings from another roll. Would i try this place again, maybe. The miso soup was good so that says a lot. I am hoping my next experience is better. The server was very attentive with my to go order .

i love this place. its a bit out of the way from where i live but whenever im in the area i love eating at this place. the food is great but, i cant believe it is never packed. maybe im just going at the wrong times which is good. ive tried almost every roll on the menu and nothing has disappointed me yet. my boyfriend also loves this place above niwano hana and sushi damo. the shrimp tempura roll is his favorite and they always make them to order, never pre-made. i recommend this place above all else.

I am a big fan of sushi.....and have been in Rockville area for the past 15 years. Recently I discover this restaurant through my friends, and I could say it is the "best" in Rockville City. The food is surprisingly good, the sushi is so fresh, and the service is excellent. I had their Shrimp Tempura last week, and even when the dish is cold, the tempura itself was still crunchy outside. The sushi is always fresh, you will never experience not fully defrosted, or cut in strange shape. The Sea Urchin is always in rich, creamy and sweet condition. So far, I haven't had a bitter taste experience. The waitresses are very helpfully and all dress in kimono. BTW.... they are very pretty. ^__^ The restaurant is under a bright new ownership for just 4 months. The main chef has over 35 years of Japanese cousin experience. The price is a little bit expensive, but the freshness is nowhere to find. (The other two are the Sushi King in Columbia, MD and the Sushi Co on 355 in Georgetown, DC). So...the restaurant's Interior design is very classic, the waitresses are pretty, the food is excellent.....what else could expect from a restaurant. Updated.....sadly I no longer go here... The most experienced chef had left. I now go to sushi king in Columbia every week.

LOVE this restaurant!! I went with with a large group, and everyone left this place with rave reviews. We're definitely coming back! The sushi is fresh, the rolls are unique (not just the standard rolls that every sushi restaurant offers), and the staff is really friendly. Our group ordered just about every single roll on the menu...and there wasn't a single roll we didn't like. We cleaned it all up :) My personal favorites were the yuki maki roll and oishii roll. They taste really fresh and the sauces are delicious. The restaurant is extremely accommodating too -- a member from our party doesn't eat seafood, so the chef prepared some custom made rolls just for her. Great food, good variety of menu options, clean restaurant, fast service, friendly wait staff. This place is a hidden gem for sushi lovers. P.S. Ordering the tempura ice cream for dessert here is an absolute MUST.

My wife and I have gone here about 5 times now and take more people with us each time. I have also sent quite a few other couples here and everyone has agreed this is the best sushi place in the area. I dont know how to explain it other than this is the freshest sushi I have tasted anywhere in this area. We have been to a few other places in the area and I do not think it is fair to name them here. Only thing I can say is in my opinion the sushi is far more fresh here then any other local sushi place and we will continue to return for more.

An interesting Japanese restaurant has popped up in Rockville/Gaithersburg area. It's a family owned restaurant that offers high-quality fish for a pretty decent price. I spoke to the affable hostess Susan, who told me about their specials. I was pleasantly surprised to hear that Blue Fin Tuna, O-toro and G-toro were on the list of specials. Aside from top shelf restaurants (Nobu-NYC, Osihii - Boston, etc), it's one of the few places that I've seen offering such specials. The sushi chef Peter personally goes out and selects the Tuna in the mornings before the restaurant opens. The quality really shows. An impressively delicious place!

FOOD: Ordered Sake Don (Bowl of rice with salmon slices) "Haaaaaaaaaaaaa" For those of you who don't know, that was my impression of angels singing. Fresh large thick cuts of salmon plated with rice drizzled with sweet soy sauce, toasted sesame seeds, and bonito flakes I believe. It came with like 10 pieces of salmon which was quite satisfying. Rice had a good consistency and flavor. Miso soup was just right as well. Also ordered eel and rice bowl but there was nothing special about it. Still very good but had better and at a less expensive cost elsewhere. There house tea is topped with toasted rice kernels but it tasted more like burnt rice to me. Guest it just wasn't my cup of tea. Cheesy I know but I just had to use the line. To end the night, I ordered Tempura Ice Cream which I am highly recommending. I am not a vanilla fan but this dessert was yummy, like Homer Simpson enjoying a jelly donut yummy. Warm crispy tempura batter and firm vanilla ice cream. You expected soft melted ice cream when you have a tempura coating but it wasn't. ATMOSPHERE: Friendly staff and eye pleasing asian style decor. Comfortable seating and some fancy chopsticks I might add. Wait staff wore kimono like attire which was fun. SERVICE: I was greeted right as I stepped in by practically all the staff with a big what I think meant welcome in Japanese. We were seated right away (wasn't busy that night). You weren't assigned to a specific waitress since they all helped each other out. By the end of the night, everyone had come by our table once to either refill tea, take our plates, ask how things were. It wasn't over bearing either. I will definitely come go back

Loved it! Got there around 5:30 on a Friday evening to avoid crowds. Food was fantastic and different from the average fare. Different in a good way, a very good way. The decor was modern but warm and the service was great! I would seriously think that anyone with a negative review just experienced an off night or a glitch. Not representative of their normal service.

Terrible service and overpriced. Service is extremely slow, staff are indifferent to customer requests or complaints, and management is nonexistant. For these prices, you can find much better sushi options in the area. Raku in Bethesda is a better value overall with a more interesting menu, greater selection, lower prices, better atmosphere, and *much* better service. Or if you're looking for something in this particular neighborhood and willing to forgo sushi, try Cava, a fantastic Greek mezze restaurant just across the street.

This is a very nicely decorated restaurant and makes me feel like I am in Asia. The food here is decent, but very pricey. I had the Chicken Teriyaki here and it was okay, but definitely overpriced for the portion. The sizzling grill that they brought it out in was cool though. I also tried a sushi bowl here and it was quite excellent. One dish I really like from this restaurant though and recommend is the Seafood Teriyaki. Overall, I would come back here if I am close by.

I enjoy this place. The sushi is always prepared fresh and love taking people to this place. They have great Tempura and enjoy their Rainbow rolls. They have a great atmosphere here and everyone greets you when you walk through the door (startled me the first time lol). They are a bit pricey, but I still enjoy having a few rolls and a tall sake.

I think we may have ordered the wrong food. We ordered sushi and sashimi mariawase and one of the fish had a fishbone in it. We also ordered a nigiri which is a roll and the nori was too damp and I had to try very hard to have my first bite. Other than that, everything was great. White tuna was very fresh and the waitresses were very attentive.

Place is nicely decorated, staff is nice and attentive, but for me, sushi is about the food...and I think there are different aspects, as in the Iron Chef..atmosphere is very nice, we went on a weeknight, and there were maybe 3 other tables taken...decor was very nice( but I can't eat decor!!1)....wait staff was pleasant, and the food arrived quickly..presentation was very nice, I would say 5 out of 5...taste was I would give it a 3.5-4 out of 5...not tOMG quality I would rave about, but definitely good stuff. price-wise, I would say on the medium to medium high end..of course, price is hard to peg, as it depends on how one orders....I would not call this place a great deal...they are certainly recouping the money for the nice decor and presentation...I remember reading that a lot of their wares were imported...it is a nice neighborhood restaurant, but not a place that I would go out of the way for......

This place's sushi has gotten MUCH better. I heard they recently hired a VERY experienced sushi chef. I was very impressed. I haven't even had sushi this good in NY. Just found out his name is Ricky. Ask for him at the sushi bar. You will not be disappointed.

I do not give 5 stars ever, but this place totally impress me with the freshness and quality of the fish they serve for their sushi. I ordered the chirashi and it was superb! The pieces just melted in my mouth! Extra points for putting bonito flakes on the sushi rice. Absolutely delicious! I've been to several sushi places in the DMV, and this one by far has been the best! Great service and ambiance too! I did not try any rolls since I'm more of a sushi purist and prefer sashimi raws, but judging from the freshness of the catches I believe they are also amazing. (Most non-asians in the restaurant ordered rolls as usual and they seemed happy too).

I've been here probably a good 6 years ago and didn't remember it being all that good. After seeing all these recent good reviews, I told the wifey that we had to try it again. At least so I can do a proper review. Coming into the place, there's a sushi bar in the back with the sushi masters at work. Plenty of nice seating and not too crowded on a Friday night. We were able to get a seat at prime time (7pm). While looking at the menu I noticed they have a ton of menu items ranging from small apps like age tofu, skewers, sushi ala cart, special rolls, and popular items like chicken teriyaki. We wanted to order lighter than usual this time since we are on a workout/health kick. So instead of ordering out usual 3 special rolls plates, we settled for 2. We got the angel roll which had Pepper Tuna and Cucumber, Topped with Avocado, Spicy Crunchy Salmon, Spicy Mayo, and Tobiko. That was a rather refreshing taste as the avocado shined through. I loved the peppered tuna which gave it a nice subtle flavor. Definitely delish! The other special roll we got was the Crunchy Fire Roll that had Shrimp Tempura, Avocado and Masago, Topped with Spicy Tuna, Spicy Sauce and crunchy flakes. This was my favorite of the night. I'm glad we stopped at 2 because anything more would've made our experience different. Oh, they also gave us this small appetizer on the house which was a nice gesture. It was some sort of chewy tempura fried with mayo sauce on top. I liked it. We did get the age tofu which was cooked really well as it was lightly battered and the tofu was super soft. The sauce that it was in was light in flavor but I'm assuming it's meant to be that way. Still good though. Overall, we were quite impressed and will definitely come back to try the raw fish and other items for lunch. The Good: - special rolls are delicious, angel roll and crunchy fire roll was what we got and I'd get it again. - great service, offered us free app - prices are reasonable - everything tasted good without being so heavily reliable on salt The Bad: - i didn't mention the beef yakitori which was a beef skewer. It wasn't necessarily bad but just really bland in taste.

Not sure why this place has barely three stars....but we went there last night and were very pleasantly surprised. I completely forgot to take photos of our food because we were too busy diving right in with no care for how beautiful the speciality rolls were. They were the Angry Bird Roll and the Loutus roll..... Let me tell you people.... These two rolls are unbelievable. Compared to the prices of the standard rolls like the Alaska roll..... these specialty rolls were completely worth the cost. I will admit that the standard rolls are a little pricy for the size but worth it in flavor. Another new favorite yellow tail and jalapeño! How I didn't know about this ridiculous combination until now upsets me but it's a go to order at this place. All in all, it's now our go to sushi / cold sake spot!

  • Bianca F.

This place is pretty good. I ordered the rainbow roll and spicy tuna roll with some miso soup. I really enjoyed it. The spicy tuna roll could have been more spicy. That seems to be happening to me a lot lately. So next time I'll ask them to add some jalapeños & wasabi. Otherwise the sushi was very fresh and my to-go order was ready in no time.

I have mixed feelings about this place. I came here a while ago and got a few different special sushi rolls off of the regular menu. The rolls were all delicious and ended up being very affordable thanks to a Living Social deal. However, I came here more recently for lunch and found the lunch specials (particularly the maki rolls) to be subpar. I'm not sure if the sushi chef changed recently or if they just didn't make as much of an effort for the maki rolls, but they were unfortunately not very good - especially for a restaurant with the word "sushi" in the name! 3 of us came for lunch and ordered the nage udon bowl, the chicken teriyaki bento box (came with California rolls), the sashimi assortment lunch, and philly and alaskan maki rolls. All of the maki rolls were very small and did not have a lot of fish in them. The chicken teriyaki tasted like it was from Subway. The The only lunch special I thought was worth the money was the udon bowl - it was a little on the bland side but came with a good mix of stuff. If this is the standard nowadays, I might come back for the noodle bowls but wouldn't bother with any of the sushi (Yoyogi's the place for that). Also, its location isn't the most convenient, so I definitely wouldn't bother going out of my way to come here. Lastly, a lot of their ad material claims that you get a special offer if you check in on Yelp or Facebook - as far as I can tell, this is not the case.

Went to Sushi Oishii yesterday for the first time for their lunch special and was pleasantly surprised. I only knew of this place because my girlfriend liked the name haha. But, when searching for a lunch special, Sushi Oishii came up to the front. The food was good, service was attentive. I won't say it's the best Japanese food I've ever had after travelling to Japan multiple times, but I quite enjoyed it and it's a great fix for my favorites! Would go back!

Sushi Oishii has been hit or miss for me. I've eaten lunch here four times, ordering the exact same items each time. The seaweed in the sushi rolls has a distinguishable taste to it that I don't particularly like. The avocado salad has at times been fantastic, and other times has fallen flat on the flavor. The avocado salad is served with a mustard & soy dressing with gluten in it. Ask for ginger dressing instead if you are avoiding gluten. Sushi Oishii has some decent looking desserts, although I have yet to partake. They have a round dough dessert with oozing hazelnut that looks amazing. It's not on their online menu, but pictures of it are located on the dining tables. Service is okay. We have been overlooked on occasion. It's never been crowded during lunch when I have visited. The Traville Gateway location in general does not get much traffic. A Yelp check-in gets you a complimentary seaweed salad.

The waitress needed to put a damn smile on her face. If you've ever been here I'm sure you know who I am talking about. She was rude and absolutely off putting. They over sold us on sushi that we didn't even want. Too much spicy mayo & eel sauce.... On all the rolls. Less is more and less of this place is definitely better.

I've eaten a lot of sushi in my life - some really amazing sushi, and some really awful sushi. This sushi was pretty average with average sushi prices. The regular rolls were actually pretty reasonably priced at ~5 per roll. The specialty rolls were upwards of $16 which is some of the most expensive I've ever seen, for so-so quality. My favorite place I visit regularly in Arizona has the freshest fish ever and their speciality rolls are nowhere near that expensive. The quality of the fish didn't really match the price. If I went back I would definitely only order the regular rolls. The salmon, tuna and yellowtail were pretty good. Just not $16 good. I would probably recommend going here for a casual lunch or something, because if you order the right things you won't spend too much.

They are open again. Got a six piece spicy tuna, six piece California roll, miso soup, and a ginger salad for lunch all for $10. The sushi is fresh and you cannot beat that deal. I will be coming here a lot!

We picked up some take out from SO last night, they were able to replicate our custom roll from our last visit, and even let us add it to their secret menu. Not technically a secret menu, but the chefs have a book with customs rolls they have made, so next time you are in, ask for the Nicole Roll.

I hear this place was a great local hole in the wall and got really excited to finally try it. But I was not impressed. I will have to say the presentation was nice but we all know the taste is what matters. Just average sushi but very over priced. They tried get really creative with speciality rolls but in the end they are all very similar. But the worst had to be the service. After the first cup of hot tea, which was cold by the way, I never got a refill. After my food was dropped of it was like I had to flag people down to get my check. Let me add that there were only 2 other tables of 2 in the restaurant so it's not like it was super busy. I definitely won't be coming back here...

Near Quench and across Cava Mezze I parked in the Giant shopping center but I think you can park behind Quench I needed to order some salmon avocado rolls for a friends birthday cus I cannot make good salmon avocado rolls and I also did not have time. I decided to go here cus of all the good reviews. I disregarded a friend who has been here a few times cus this place seemed close and decent but I should've listened to her cus she told me not to go there. ANYWAYS I called and ordered 6 orders of salmon avocado and I specifically asked for extra ginger. OMG I wish I took a picture but they not only charged me a few cents for ginger but they also did not give me enough ginger for 6 orders! I told them on the phone that I would need more ginger and that I do NOT need soy sauce (I didn't want them to waste it cus I have soy sauce at home). I received enough ginger for 2 orders and got soy sauce packs (not complaining about the soy sauce packs) BUT if I specifically requested more ginger and you charge me (few cents) for it that's RIDICULOUS. It may have been an off day BUT it's upsetting cus it did not seem busy and the restaurant was empty and had only 2 customers (a couple sitting and looking through the menu and another mom and son who placed their order and was waiting to take it home). Maybe it was busy before but they just opened 30 mins before I got there so I don't know. I would probably give it one more try. I would have ordered from yoyogi cus the service there is great and when I order 6 rolls they give me enough ginger for 6 rolls.

Had dinner delivered last night and it was excellent. I've tried a few sushi spots in the area and this has been the best e experience so far. The veggie spring rolls we're fresh and not oily. The fish tasted fresh and even the dessert was good. We got the #10, 19 and 38. #10 was good but #19 and 38 you have to try at least once they We're amazing.

A hidden gem for sushi places.. The question is, do you know how to order? For two, we split: uni lover (soup soon full of uni) with a shrimp meatball finisher and a little ponzu Oyster shooters--the best I've ever had. The flavor was spectacular. A perfect blend of sauces and saki with fresh oyster (or two). The secret is to ask for a quail egg in each shot and you're be in gastronomic heaven. Sushi sashimi combo-- amazingly fresh seafood. The sushi chef (young man from NY) had everything perfect from presentation to blend of flavors. Absolutely delicious. Red Snapper on Fire: beautiful presentation, delicious and fresh red snapper sashimi with 151 lit on fire with side salad. Comes with 6 pieces. Hot saki-- goes down smooth, great with a cold sushi meal. Very cute Japanese gums with check. Stepped out with around $30 each. Very impressed with this place since they make it about the food and the service--and they do it well!! The sushi chef there is very talented and the staff gets a A+ from beginning to end. Great for families and dates. What a find in a small neighborhood shopping center.

Absolutely the best sushi in the area. Ricky, the head sushi chef is amazing. High quality, fresh fish delightfully plated. They make your selections just the way you like them, and Ricky's suggestions are spot-on! From the moment you enter this restaurant, you are made to feel welcome. I've been a loyal customer since April 2014 and eat here two to three times each week. They've always exceeded my expectations!

We decided to try this place for take out based on the four stars from yelp. We ordered two special rolls and two dinner entrees. We were shocked at how flavorless all four items were, after paying $64 mind you. We'll be sticking with Ziki for Japanese food in the future.. where the food has flavor!

Not sure what happened, but my lunchtime sushi bliss has turned sour.... Sashimi lunch special has 5 tiny pieces of not-so-fresh fish, soggy, cold and flavorless tempura, and a blob of rice. Also, no more after-meal-gum. Very sad.

I saw they were advertised on Amazon Local. Before plopping down money for a deal, I wanted to see if they were worth it. I read Kris F's Yelp review and it looked that I was going to a great place. It was such a let down. I did an order for carry out and did their lunch menu. And for 8.95 for 2 rolls, a salad and miso soup sounded like a great deal. I ate my sushi on the ride back to work and observed they didn't use much rice around the sushi. I was happy about that. But the flavor? It was very middle of the road. I ordered an Alaskan roll and the spicy mayo was non-existent but the cucumbers overwhelmed the overall flavor. The Philly roll (what can I say, I love cream cheese), had the saltiest smoked salmon that completely overpowered the roll. I will say that they give 8 pieces for the roll instead of the usual 6 and that pleases me. Now the bonuses of the salad and miso? They can keep it. The salad I received, the lettuce was brown streaked, like it was on its last leg and I was the unlucky winner. And the dressing was this pink roe-ish mess that upon tasting it, I instantly regretted. I put all of that in the trash. The miso soup was unremarkable, but not overwhelmingly awful as the side salad, brown streaked with decay. I will not go back.

It was my second time there today. Was pretty upsad ! We ordered two special rolls and couple regular rolls. If u r telling me that I pay $16 for six tiny prices, I can't understand why I need to order it. For the regular rolls, I think the sushi chef really need to learn how to make sushi. My first time was good but the second time? I'm sorry !

This place is pretty popular. A great place for lunch, happy hour, or dinner. The service was outstanding. Our party ordered age tofu, sashimi assortment, and chicken teriyaki. The last two entrees came with miso soup, house salad, Osaka Yaki, and rice. I loved the house salad with a ginger-vinegar dressing. The Osaka Yaki was quiet interesting in a good way. The Age Tofu - soft, silky tofu lightly battered with panko flakes, garnished with bonita flakes, and served in tempura sauce. The sashimi assortment consists of thickly sliced fresh fish - 3 pieces of salmon, 3 pieces of red tuna, and 3 pieces of white tuna. The chicken teriyaki - tender white meat from the breast - was served on cast iron dish in a sweet teriyaki sauce. As a way of saying thank you for dining in with us, they give Japanese brand bubble gum packages. Check out their Facebook pages for new creations and daily specials. P.S. If you check in on Facebook, you get a special reward, a different reward every day.

This is my first review on yelp and have always been too lazy to actually post. I wanted to post this as sushi oishii actually has some of the best and innovative items you will find anywhere. Go and ask Ricky to make you what's fresh that day. Some of my personal favorites are the seared salmon belly, uni lover, Madai sushi, foie gras sushi, o-toro sashimi, whatever fresh catch he has, and the list could go on and on. If you like rolls try the sol-tsunami. My wife and i go in literally every week, definitely the best joint in the dc area and I've been to them all.

3.5 stars I should preface this by saying that I haven't tried the sushi. A Living Social deal brought us here, and I would probably return and pay full-price. The service was excellent. The servers are very friendly and the food came out quickly. The presentation of all the dishes was beautiful. We started with the pork gyoza, which were delicious. For our entrees, we shared the vegetable teriyaki and the chicken teriyaki. Each came with miso soup and a small salad. The miso soup was great and the salad was fresh, with yummy ginger dressing. The teriyaki dishes were ok. Both the vegetables and chicken were not sauced very much, and rather were sitting on top of grilled onions and sauce. It did look really cool, though, when they came out on two sizzling hotplates. The vegetables were cooked well, but the chicken was a bit dry. And at $16 and $18 each, respectively, they needed to be a little better. All that said, I would go back to Sushi Oishii if I were in the area.

My family and I have been loyal customers to Sushi Oishii since it opened. We LOVE it here, and from a family of homebodies this place has managed to get us out of the house and stuffing our faces with sushi. I have also brought colleagues here and the experience has NEVER been short of outstanding. We will eat here usually once a month, though my father (who works for a Japanese company) is here even more frequently. We almost always start the meal with the steamed Wasabi Shumai, complete with tangy mustard. Light and delicious! A few favorites for the sushi include the Volcano Roll, Crazy Eel, Tango Roll, Crazy Oishii, and Crunchy Fire, though we usually sub one or two of these out to try something new (Sapporo and Tiger Rolls were great last time)! It is not a cheap meal, but the presentation is beautiful and the service is impeccable. Look out for Groupons because they do pop up here. Can't say enough about Sushi Oishii, so I'm sure I'll see you there.

Son came home for Spring break and wanted Japanese. Since Niwano Hana is remodeling, we were just at En Bistro & Sushi, could not get a table at Sushi Yoshi until 9pm, I chose Sushi Oishii which was a terrible mistake. I was misled by the good reviews. The salmon Teriyake came first, it had no taste. The Nabe Udon came later, which had no taste. Then the soft shell crabs appetizer, it was a disaster. This is the first time I had soft shell crabs in a Japanese coated with a thick layer of bread crumbs. It was a very unusually experience when my two kids did not want to finish the crabs. We waited for our sushi and Sashimi party tray, but found out the they had not started it yet when we asked the waitress to check. The restaurant was not that busy at the time. At this time, my family just wanted to leave. We went to Michale's Noodle nearby for another dinner and were very satisfied. Michael saved my night. If one thinks this place deserves anything over 2 or 3 stars, please try the other places such as Niwano Hana, En Bistro & Sushi, etc. It has to be more than the looks and good looking web site.

Sit at the bar and talk to the head chef Ricky. He really knows his fish and is extremely friendly. We let him pick what we ate and tried all sorts of new and amazing things. Excellent wait staff, fresh fish, clean restaurant, creative menu. All around wonderful experience. We will definitely be coming back regularly. Side note, they are very good about food allergies and were sweet to our three year old son. Fabulous restaurant.

The food here is somewhere between ok and good. When we visited, we had the aged tofu, the gyoza, a salad, an assortment of rolls (ex. the rainbow roll), and sashimi. The presentation of the food was fine, and we were perfectly happy with the variety in the menu. However, the freshness was somewhat missing across all dishes, and flavors were not sufficiently rounded out (ex. a dish would be slightly salty without an extra kick from the ingredients, leaving you wanting more). Nonetheless, in a pinch this restaurant would be fine if you're craving Japanese and want a pleasant-looking, non-intimidating experience. Regarding service, the restaurant appears somewhat deceptive in its marketing. Once, before going to the restaurant, my family completed a couple of promotions offered by the restaurant (ex. check in on Facebook and get an appetizer, join our loyalty program and get 10% off). But at the restaurant, the managers refused to honor any promotions. They just blatantly said "we're not doing these promotions anymore" and were unapologetic about the fact that these promotions were still being displayed on social media and even on the walls and windows of their restaurant (or, they randomly added qualifiers like "it's only for the first Facebook check-in, and you've checked-in once before," even though they previously honored that promotion to us multiple times before). On top of that, when talking to the manager, my mom in particular felt accused of pulling a fast one on them - when is the customer never right? I hope they'll become more honest in their promotions, and/or improve their customer experience. Even the best food will not compensate for rude service behavior.

One word to describe this place = Ridiculous! Hands down the best sushi I have ever had on the east coast. Ricky, the main sushi chef, knows what he is doing, and has first quality fish that is all phenomenal quality. Highly recommended place. Great service, competitive pricing, and did I mention the quality of fish Ricky serves? For real, you have to try this place!

Casual atmosphere with fresh fish and a dragon roll that was almost too cute to eat (but glad we did). Nice selection to choose from - will definitely come back for more!

This place is always freaking amazing. There was one time I was a bit disappointed, but that's only because Ricky wasn't working. He really is an amazing person and sushi chef. If you really get to know him, he'll let you into the real deal stuff like otoro. Unbelievable. I always leave there with a smile on my face.

I ate here a few times because I heard that this place is a must see. I must say the service is 5 stars. I mean they will def go the extra mile for you but the sushi is very very expensive and its not all that. They have your regular sushi but there is no way im pay over $6 for little itty bitty california rolls...The place is a little too dark inside...even on a sunny day. I have to try other menu items to give it a more indepth review but I must say the service is excellent. Usually at sushi type restaurants I get forgotten, not here. Service rocks.

If you have not been here since January of 2014, then you need to return for another visit. Here's the story. I live in South Riding, VA. When I moved there, I looked for a local sushi bar for my impulsive desires. I would then go into DC for something really good. I found a local place in South Riding that was VERY good. I kept going back and back and then realized that I liked this place far more than some of the better/pricier places in DC. What it all really came down to was a young sushi chef named Ricky. His style is not the traditional/simple style... though he is fantastic with that as well. He adds a little fusion to the mix. The fish that he selects is all to his control and he makes sure he gets top quality stuff. The pieces of fish are nice and large and he doesn't fill you with massive amounts of rice. His work is not only delicious... but artistic. Ricky would text me when he got special things in or things that are really good that he knows I would like. He would make me things I have never heard of or have tried and he's expanded my list of things I enjoy. So why am I talking about my sushi chef in South Riding? Simple... he changed jobs to Sushi Oishii in Maryland to be closer to home with his family. Now... I need to drive 1 hour, but here's the secret. It's totally worth it. My parents frequent this place. My sister now frequents this place. Her friends frequent this place. The word is growing about how this place has changed as a result of Ricky's influence. When you sit at the sushi bar... it's an experience. Ricky not only serves amazing sushi... but he's very personable with you, jokes with you, and gets to know you. That's what you want to experience when at the bar. Whenever I go have sushi... I just let him make whatever he wants to make for me. He won't serve anything bad... and he knows what I like and what I can't eat (avocado for example... because of allergy). The last time there... I had things that I had never had... and they were fantastic. I'm jealous that MD stole away a great sushi chef from us in VA... but at least he's close enough to go to for a nice dinner. I still enjoy the sushi at his previous establishment as they have maintain the quality he instilled... but it's not the same without him and I probably go there 75% less often as a result. Many people claim to like sushi, but many people don't know good sushi. Don't waste your time on California Rolls. Get the real stuff. This place is great and always leaves you happy and content. Oh... and on a side note... Ricky goes out of his way to simply be a great guy. He's done special events/things for my family because he's simply that kind of guy. Thanks Ricky!

Great deals for workday lunch. However, not sure how authentic the cooked food is...I've never seen chicken teriyaki cooked with onion before, a little weird. The chicken didn't look all that appetizing either. But I would definitely come back for sushi/sashimi during lunch time at least. The place is very nice, and they use nice plates and chopstick!

Best sushi joint in north west Rockville/north Potomac area. Service was outstanding and knowledgeable without being intrusive. Decor is warm and inviting, and the noise level is good. We started with tea: rather than just plain old green tea, theirs is infused with toasted rice, a very traditional high end Japanese method that I have only seen at a couple of very high end restaurants in New York, San Francisco and Tokyo. Five minutes after we placed our order, the server appeared with a bowl of freshly steamed, salted edamame in the pods with the apology that the sushi bar was very busy, and to please accept this as a gift. Very nice touch. The quality and variety of the sushi and sashimi was outstanding, and the presentation was beautiful. A shared dessert of mango and passion fruit sorbet in a champagne flute capped off a wonderful meal. Over the past decade, we have made a point of sampling the Japanese restaurants in the southwest region of Montgomery county, from Bethesda out to Darnestown. I must say that Sushi Oishii was the best overall in terms of the quality of food, hospitality, and accessibility.

Went here for the first time today and glad I did. Delicious and great lunch specials. They have a very extensive list of specialty rolls that I want to come back and try. Loved the spicy salmon roll.

Oh em geee...I can only comment on the delivery service, not the food, because it's been over an hour and a half and it still hasn't arrived. The delivery time on the ordering site says 30-45min (most restaurants stay within the time range they put on the site, or maybe just a little late), so I called them after an hour to check on the status of my order. The woman I spoke to told me that the driver just left and was sorry that it was a "little late" and it should be there in 5-10 minutes. Okay, cool...right? Nope. Thirty minutes later...still not here, so we call again and spoke to another person. Apparently the driver had left with the wrong order or address or something and he needed to come back to the restaurant to get it and was going back out. He said that he'd call the driver to see where he was and call us back...Well, he did call back, but only to say that the driver wasn't picking up the phone...not very helpful, but at least he did call back like he said. But still no order, and we're getting pretty close to two hours. Okay so...update. After two hours, we called them back and asked them to just void the transaction because we were going to go out to dinner since they took so long. They then asked if we wanted to wait another five minutes and if the food came they'd give me 20% off. It was a nice gesture, but I was over it at this point. I just told them to void it, and on a positive note, they did offer me 50% off if I wanted to try them again. They were polite and it was a nice gesture (that's what the extra star is for), but it was honestly the worst delivery experience ever. If I were to attempt to eat there again, it would have to be at the restaurant. It's a shame too, because their rolls sound so awesome!
