Fiancé & I tried this place out Saturday off a whim. This place is so new that their liquor license hasn't even been issued yet (*this was a Bummer for us since we like having an ethnic beer when we eat different countries cuisines, but they said they will be able to serve alcohol within 2 weeks). First Impression: Very modern, bright & inviting decor! Most indian restaurants are darker & dated looking, so this was a nice surprise! Service: the entire staff was great & friendly. There were no mistakes with our orders & the food was served in a timely manner. What especially stuck out to me was their attention they gave when closing out our bill. The server boxed & bagged our leftovers nicely & the table was actually cleaned off promptly and fully (including rice pieces!). Food: The food was great, we ordered Chicken Tikka Masala & Chicken Vindaloo, Naan, Samosas & Ditka. Everything was Delicious & was a nice steaming temperature (my biggest pet peeve is cold food). *I will say though that we would have liked both of our meals offered spicier as the standard. We generally like the standard spiciness at Indian restaurants, but theirs came out less than even mild. I know we can order it spicier, but we'd prefer a a spicier standard. Overall, this was a great find & will definitely be returning to get some of that indian beer :P

My family loved this place and will be back! While the location may be a little eclectic, the place was great inside and had beautiful food and Indian photos on the walls in a tasteful way. We were a little worried to take our four year old there, but the staff was great with him and recommended foods that wouldn't be to spicy for him. He liked the samosas although they have a tiny bit of spice (almost an aftertaste). I had the curry goat and it was very good. The meat had a bit of bone in it, but I was expecting that. My wife had an okra dish that looked amazing (she wouldn't share, which is a good sign). They had an average beer and wine selection and I saw liquor at the bar, but did not partake. The portions were generous, we had enough to take home and enjoy for dinner the next night. Bottom line, we will be back. That is the best vote I can give!

My wife and I have had food from Saffron twice now. Once we ate in with our 3 year old daughter and the other time I picked food up and brought it home. The restaurant is beautiful and clean. The employees were incredibly nice and helpful and even gave my daughter a small taste of mango lassi to see if she liked it. We ordered vegetable samosas for an appetizer and they were very good. For dinner we had saag panner and butter chicken. Both were VERY good. We also ordered some naan and naan with paneer inside (never had that before) and they were both delicious. For our take home order my wife had the saag paneer again because she loved it so much. I ordered the chicken tika masala this time and was very impressed. I am just incredibly surprised about the 1 star reviews here. I really just don't understand it. I am not giving it 5 because there are 2 other places that really are amazing in gaithersburg and germantown but this is closer to my home and is just REALLY good. 4 stars without hesitation. If i was to offer 1 criticism it would be the rice. Its not terrible, but its pretty... average. A lot of Indian restaurants have really good rice. But this in no way makes me not want to come back here. So happy we found Saffron and will be returning many times in the future!

I have not been to India yet and so I have yet to discover authentic Indian cuisine. However, at Saffron, I see the authenticity and craftsmanship in each and every dish. The aroma of chicken tikka masala, the texture of finely made paneer, and last but not least, the freshly baked naan all contribute to the amazing experience. So come on in, you wont be disappointed.

My recommendations - so far.. Rasam soup, Vegetable Samosa, Bhindi Masala (my fav okra) and Dal There's liquor and beer too :) Oh, I'm definitely eating here again and again and again!

Decent delicious food. Good speed and clean place. Definitely on the casual side and family friendly or so it appears. The service is good and you get 10% off if you pick up

This is where the old India Garden used to be, and I think they did a great job as a replacement, both in terms of decor and food. Bright, clean, pleasant. Have only had the lunch buffet so far but am eager to come back for more. Pakora were tender and crispy. A lot of times I find a little too much seasoning in dishes like vindaloo or mixed veggies but I could honestly say here the seasonings didn't drown out the ingredients. Naan fresh and not too doughy or chewy. Excellent goat curry, deep and rich. This is a really hard piece of retail space to fill so I have my fingers crossed for the success of this place!

The key here is to order the buffet. I see that the restaurant has pretty poor reviews, so maybe we were lucky the day that we went. I'm just relieved that I finally found a solid Indian restaurant closer to us than Curry Place in Germantown (near work). Anyways, we ordered the buffet, and they had a large selection of goat, chicken, paneer dishes. I veered towards the goat and paneer. The naan was brought out to you in a 4 piece basket. I prefer my naan fluffier, but this was good especially with the ghee/butter. The dessert was fruit along with a mango pudding, which was pretty sweet. I noticed that there were some chats on the menu and will try that next time. Glad I tried the buffet, and if I'm hankering for some Indian food nearby, I'll head here.

We usually get takeout here, haven't eaten in. The food is always good. Last night my husband got Chicken Makhni (butter chicken) and I got the Tandoor Platter (a delicious assortment of tandoori meats). We also got Aloo Gobhi, Dal Makhni and Garlic Naan. We always get extras to ensure leftovers! The staff is also very friendly. Definitely our go-to takeout place for Indian.

I had one of the worst food from here. We order couple things to go and man they don't how to make it . I was really hungry and I couldn't find it tasty. No wonder they have poor reviews. Restaurant located on more like mom pop shop but charges premium price for food that is not even good. I find curry palace or few restaurants in Bethesda way more better. I hope they will improve their menu and food quality.

I can't believe I finally found an Indian place - outside of Rasika - that will make a white girl a good lamb vindaloo that is both spicy (think watery eyes) and has quality meat. I hoarded the vindaloo, and shared a few other dishes. I liked the chicken korma and the saag paneer. My fam liked the biryani - I had a few bites, but biryani isn't my thing. The service was top notch, in every way. They were attentive, and I appreciated that they brought u s out some veggies of the day, and some salad. I've only been once now, but I'd come back in a heart beat.

AMAZING!!! This is my 2nd time here In the past month. I don't get out often because i have 2 young kids but have chosen this place Both times lately. The saag paneer is amazing, as is the chicken tikka masala and the mango lassi. And we got adventurous ordering something new for us- it was the bel puri appetizer. YUM!! And I hear they're about to get their alcohol license early May so that's an added bonus. Best local Indian food!!!!

Delicious discovery in Rockville. The curried fish and lamb patiala were a perfect contrast of large, tender chunks of fish and tender meat, both in well-balanced sauces. The complimentary vegetables in another, more spicy, curried sauce were an exquisite treat. With white tablecloths and excellent, attentive service, were we not from out-of-town this would be a frequent dining spot. It's a 'must' for us next time we're in the area.

We have been yearning for a good Indian place close to us. One night we tried to go to Sushi House on the day of a snow storm, and it was closed, so we wandered over to Saffron. We'd been to the previous restaurant in this space and weren't too impressed. I had the vegetable biryani, and he had the chicken tikka. We also had the bhel puri as an appetizer. Everything was absolutely delicious. It's been a long time since I've had a biryani that seemed to be made with real care, and this was such a treat. Complex flavors, awesome spices, perfect chewy-crunchy fried onions. The papadam served as we waited was great--lots of spices, delicious chutneys with flavors that were nicely balanced--not overly spicy or overly sweet. My companion's chicken tikka was very good as well, and with the various accompanying side dishes it seemed more like a feast than a meal. The space is lovely and the service was friendly and attentive but not overly so. The staff made an effort to make us feel welcome and to make sure we had everything we needed. For the amount & quality of the food, and the ambience and service, Saffron was a great value. We're heading back tonight. Edit 4/10/15: We've been back twice already, even though we are not eating out very much these days. The food has been consistently delicious. The chicken makhni is our current favorite. There is always a complimentary salad and vegetable for the table. The salad is a cabbage slaw with a bit of oil and salt (not something I'd order but it's crazy good actually) and the "vegetable" is usually chickpeas or lentils with veggies in a flavorful sauce. The service is friendly and attentive in spirit, but they are still a bit uncoordinated in terms of getting the check etc. taken care of promptly at the end. We're not super picky about that but they are really pretty bad about this even when they aren't busy. It doesn't matter much to us but we wouldn't go there if we were in a hurry. Even though the food comes out quickly, things just move slowly there. Here's hoping they step up their game just a bit.

Four Yelps for a very solid Indian meal. Not too spicy, so very American-friendly. Everything is tasty and enjoyable, without any one dish being spectacular. Nice spread for ordering tandoori salmon; they give you channa masala and an interesting water chestnut dish. Yummy saag. Go, and bring me some spinach.

We went to the lunch buffet and were very pleased. nice selection and delicious. Our only complaint is that all of the food was room temperature or barely warm. Should be steaming hot. We would return here again though.

Nice little place. Simply decorated with beautiful photographs of food and people. I had a tandoori platter which was quite tasty. The condiments were all well made as well. The staff was attentive and friendly. Unfortunately, I don't live close by but I would certainly frequent this location.

I ordered the tandoori chicken and was made the night beforehand...it was not fresh..their chutney is terrible..this restaurant sucks..i learned my lesson with this place.

Lunch special is a very good deal. Food iOS pretty good, and try the Mango Lassi. My only complaint about the buffet is the food is hot, but the plates are cold. Maybe invest in a plate warmer if there is such a thing. I've been there twice so far, and I came to the realization that I like rice pudding. Have it on the buffet menu everyday. The carrot mash is not nearly as good.

Don't know what the good reviews are about. Their food was absolutely stale. I ordered Chicken Manchuria which must have been at least few days old. Some of us felt sick after few hours. I will neither go there again nor recommend it.

I've been here for the lunch buffet and for the dinner, and both were great! The staff was friendly and efficient, the food was flavorful, and the portions were large for what the price was. Specifically we ordered the chicken mahkni, paneer tikka masala, and chicken vindaloo. Very yummy. We also got some garlic naan action going, and it was nice and garlicky, just how we like it. Definitely recommend this place!

This was my first visit. I remember an Indian chef who i met during my yoga studies in Asia told me once - when you want to know if the Indian restaurant is good, try on your first visit their tandoori dishes. If they are bad, chances are they don't have real tandoor oven, or they don't know how to marinade, or they use cheap cuts of meat. Stay away from them. So I ordered tandoori platter - chicken, lamb, fish, shrimp. To be fair I also ordered a sampling of vegetarian dishes - saag paneer (cheese cooked w spinach). The waitress never asked me if i wanted a choice of white or dark chicken meat, neither that choice was reflected in the menu. Indians believe that white chicken meat is "healthy" - something a friend of mine, a doctor and researcher from NIH, told me was quite debatable. In any case I pay for restaurant meals to entertain my taste buds, not to improve my health. Tandoori platter ($18) came in as one fish piece which was the only edible part, and 1 (yes ONE) piece of shrimp, which was also edible, 2 tiny rolls of lamb that had a strange unpleasant taste and texture, and several big chunks of chicken breast, dry and bland as you can get. I left the whole dish untouched. This was the WORST tandoori platter i had in a long time! Fortunately I had my other order - saag paneer which was quite decent. Still in Minerva it is better. The waitress expressed regret that I disliked the tandoori meats, but did not offer to take it off the bill as many other restaurants would do. Neither the owner nor the manager came up to me to offer a substitute dish or for a feedback.. Instead i was offered a free desert. I chose gulab jamun which was good. Still, if you are in Montgomery County and in the mood for Indian, better stick to Bethesda and Gaithersburg which offer much better choices.

This restaurant is really beautiful and has a really awesome ambiance - both times my husband and I have come for their lunch buffet on a weekend, it was really quiet, not crowded at all, and the waitstaff was very friendly and attentive. The food is good, but its hard to find a dish that Minerva doesn't do better. That and the selection isn't as large. It's hard to justify coming here when its just as expensive as eating at Minerva. If the buffet was somewhat cheaper, I think we'd come here more often. As far as ambiance, noise, cleanliness, and customer service go, this place beats Minerva.
