Only been here during Lunch hours. They have a great 2 course lunch special. $16 for a steak lunch and a soup or salad. Food is great. Service is prompt (take out or dine in).

The restaurant was very nice, our waitress was nice, the food was so-so. Maybe I set my expectations too high when we decided not to go to Outback but Nick's instead...shoulda gone to Outback, believe it or not. The food lacked something....it just didn't look or taste the way it should. It tasted "dinerish" and for the price it should have tasted "restaurantish" you know what I mean? It didn't quite hit the mark with me or my husband. Calamari;can't get this wrong anywhere really, it is what it is, Beef Wellington Cigars; so-so, they were placed on a horseradish sauce and some other kind of sauce which I didn't care for, should have placed the horseradish sauce on the side. Prime Rib was pinkish/orange with a dusting of orange pixie dust seasoning, Crab Cakes were saltier than the ocean itself w/small chunks of lump crab meat, lots of filler, Linguine with sauce, totally flavorless. Wasn't the best for me, we won't be visiting Nick's Chophouse again.

Food was good but our waiter was a little clueless and could have made it a better experience.

The lunch specials are pretty good here. For something like $15 you get a soup or salad along with a flatiron steak and 2 sides. The steaks are perfectly cooked and very well seasoned, so that's a big plus. However, they do have quite a few crappy dishes which should be avoided at all costs; for example, the mushy eggplant parm, the soggy fried calamari, and the uber bland hummus. Stick with the steaks and you should be good to go.

This place was a very pleasant surprise to me. PROS: * Spectacular food presentation - looks almost too good to eat * Absolutely delicious food - ALL of it! * Service perfectly timed - appetizer-then-salad-then-entree - NO waiting! * Friendly wait staff make sure you're okay, but don't hover * Did I mention the delicious food? Steak and seafood were just wonderful! CONS (nobody's perfect): * There was a used napkin on the floor under our table * The restrooms are awkwardly located - men's almost in another building, and women's right next to the server's workspace - you have to trip over servers to get in and out * It is incredibly expensive (HOW much for 3 scallops?) In spite of the cons, the food is well worth trying - and for any special occasion, I would definitely recommend this place.

My boyfriend surprised me with dinner reservations at Nick's Chophouse for my birthday, and I'm so glad he did. Simply put, it was an awesome dining experience. My boyfriend and I both love seafood and steakhouses, and Nick's was the best of both worlds. And it's different. It has it's own style, outside of the city, tucked away in the suburbs. Getting there was an adventure in itself. As an appetizer we ordered mussels and for our drinks we ordered water on the rocks (LOL). The mussels were excellent. My boyfriend ordered the prime rib with Oscar style embellishment, which includes jumbo lump crabmeat, asparagus & béarnaise sauce on top. I ordered the pappardella pasta, with wilted spinach, arugula, marinated sun dried tomatoes, mushrooms, garlic, wine, lemon zest & shaved parmesan (!!!!). We also ordered sides, including: sautéed mushrooms, 4 cheese macaroni & cheese, and sautéed spinach. I highly recommend the spinach! It melts in your mouth. I would be remiss to not mention the stellar service. From the hostess to our waitress, Ms. Barbara, we were treated impeccably. Ms. Barbara even brought out a slice of cake with a candle for me, and my boyfriend sang Happy Birthday (LOL). I couldn't have asked for a better place to celebrate. I hope to be back soon to try their wine selection and desserts!

Went there on a Tuesday night for my father's birthday, and had a great experience all around. Brought our own cake, and didn't get any push back as sometimes happens when places are concerned with you ordering their dessert instead. They saw it was a birthday celebration, and offered up a free appetizer. We chose the mini-beef wellingtons which were amazing. All the steaks came out cooked to order, the toppings were spot on, and sides were delicious. Service was attentive and friendly without being intrusive. Highly recommend!

We've just returned from Thanksgiving dinner at Nick's and it exceeded our expectations. All of the food was fresh, tasty and well prepared and the staff was very attentive. The general manager stopped by our table to chat and took the time to explain how they prepared the turkey breast to make it so tender and juicy, and even summoned the pastry chef when I complimented the pecan pie. A delightful experience, and they've promised to have a mincemeat pie for me when I return next year. My kinda place!

Outstanding service, high quality food, love the happy hour. Excellent wine selection! Dave the Manager maintains the place at 5 star quality and service.

Nick's Chophouse is one of the best restaurants in this area. I usually come here with coworkers for special occasions! Thursday to Saturday night they have a Slow Roasted Prime Rib special, seasoned Nick's Way: 10oz English Cut for $26, 14oz Queen Cut for $29., 16oz King Cut for $32. Friday night also happens to be half-priced wine bottles under $90 but it cannot be combined with other deals (e.g. coupon from local magazine). Tonight, my family and I came here for dinner. We shared a bottle of Sonoma-Cutrer Russian River Ranches - Chardonnay, which was a semi-dry wine. After we placed our order, our server gave us warm sourdough bread with whipped butter. Guest #1 (Mom) ordered Chophouse Caesar salad and Nick's Mixed Grill. The Chophouse Caesar salad consisted of fresh romaine lettuce, tossed with shaved Parmesan cheese, rosemary croutons, and Caesar dressing. The Nick's Mixed Grill consisted of 6oz flat iron steak, broiled crab cake, two jumbo shrimps, mashed potatoes, and grilled asparagus with roasted red pepper coulis. Guest #2 ordered Baked Onion Soup and Spiced Tuna. The Baked Onion Soup consisted of beef broth, caramelized onion, croutons, and sourdough bread with melted Gruyere and Parmesan cheese, and garnished with grated fresh parsley. I requested the Spiced Tuna to have minimal pepper and mashed potatoes without wasabi cream. The tuna was seared medium rare, served warm, cut into four pieces, and drenched in a sweet ginger soy sauce. The tuna was served with sauteed green beans and mashed potatoes. The green beans were sauteed Greek style with diced tomatoes and parsley. The mashed potatoes was too peppery for me. Guest #3 (Brother) ordered Mussels and Linguine. This pasta dish was served in roasted tomato coulis and with garlic bread and petit salad. The roasted tomato coulis - the roasted tomatoes were nice but the sauce was a bit too subtle. The garlic bread tasted like buttered toast - it was not garlicky enough. The petit salad was spring mix with herb-champagne vinaigrette. Guest #4 (Dad) ordered the Slow Roasted Prime Rib - King Cut. It was 16oz of Certified Angus Beef cooked to perfection - medium rare - just how we like it. It was cumin rubbed. Guest #3 and #4 shared Roasted Asparagus and Sauteed Broccoli, which were seasoned with salt and cooked in olive oil. Next time, I'll try and leave room for desserts! The s'mores would make a perfect date night. It's only $7 per person.

The lunch menu is an awesome deal. For either $13.95 or $15.95 you can choose between a Caesar Salad, Hummus Plate, House Salad, Fresh Fruit Cup or a Cup of House Soup or Cream of Crab Soup and choose your entree in the special menu. The Cream of Crab soup was good - had tons of jumbo lump crab meat. For entree, I got the Jumbo Lump crab cake - this was good but had 50/50 fillers but the star of the dish was the veggies. It was really good. My co-workers enjoyed their salmon filet and the Flat Iron steak.

I visited Nick's for a company holiday lunch. It seemed most of the people there at the time were having business meetings - all suited up in formals, despite it being Friday. So much for casual Friday, no? I ordered the grilled salmon. You really can't mess up salmon, it's naturally guaranteed to be delicious! :) I thought the presentation of the meal was lovely too. I didn't order dessert myself; but couple coworkers who had ordered some loved the chocolate cake - the serving size looked pretty generous. The server assigned to the table was an elderly gentleman, and he was quite pleasant. I loved the tall windows that allowed for lots of natural sunlight to come through. And what can I say? I love me a good view!

What a great place to celebrate special occasions! Thanks to my daughters, I celebrated my birthday here and fully enjoyed it. Yes, it does take a while to get your food, but it was well worth the wait. I had the dried aged ribeye steak with bone and was not disappointed. It was cooked to perfection in medium rare. Honestly, I have not had a steak tasted so delicious for a long time now. So, this was one heck of a treat, and something to remember for a long time. Their desserts were great, too. Love this place and whenever I am in the area again, I will not hesitate to dine here again, even on a normal occasion.

I took my husband there for his birthday on Saturday 08/08/15. We have been living in the area for over a year and had been wanting to try Nick's for a long time. I figured taking him here for his birthday as a surprise would be great. When I first walked in, all I could think about was how dated the restaurant is. It's also very quiet. For a hot summer day in August, the restaurant was not much cool at all. It was warm inside. We ordered the artichoke/crab dip and scallops as an appetizer. They were good..ish. We got 2.5 scallops and the bread with dip was stale. I had a glass of wine and him a beer. I ordered the prime rib medium and it came with a side baked potato and sautéed broccoli. He ordered the dry aged bone in NY steak medium with mashed potatoes on the side. We were served dinner and when he cut into the steak, it was rare. Not the "ehh I'll be fine, it's okay" rare, it was cold and purple in the middle. We asked the waitress to please take it back and cook it longer. She apologized and said she wrote medium and that wasn't medium. She took his steak back, then later came back for his mashed potatoes to "make new"... I didn't want to eat because my husband did not have his meal but he insisted I start anyways as he didn't want it to get cold. I shared with him of course until his meal came out. Here's my issues: for the price they are charging, being known a steak house and having the restaurant AS SLOW as it was, I don't find it acceptable to prepare the steak well underdone than requested. The waitress should've also asked if I'd like my dinner refired as well as we waiting for his steak. She also brought back the second mashed potatoes ungarneshed. Little details like that matter. The presentation was nothing to desire. The prime rib was good, the baked potato was lacking. The broccoli I ate. In all, it was a very disappointing experience. We are not picky eaters or individuals by any means so it was a struggle to justify our experience as decent diners while paying a pretty penny for sub par service and food. For those of you who continue to support Nicks, great, but we will not be returning.

Fantastic experience. The wife and I are here on business and decided to have a nice dinner. The babysitter bailed so we decided go take our 8month old daughter with us. We were worried we would get the "stink eye" for bringing a baby to such a place, that didn't happen. Every single employee was very polite and engaged our little one. Our server even brought her some oyster crackers which she loved. Our food was awesome. My wife had a filet mignon and I had the aged ribeye. Both were prepared and seasoned perfectly. Some guests may have a problem with price but I will happily pay $35 - $40 for great steak from a skilled chef. If you want to pay $10 for steak, go to Chili's and let them microwave one for you real quick. Best restaurant experience I've had in a long time.

The restaurant looks really outdated. Went for dinner and it was no more than 4 tables seated. Food was ok but not excellent. I had the aged rib eye and for the price I would rather spend my money at ruth chris.

My first visit was during a business meeting and was so impressed with the food preparation, service, and the atmosphere that I made a return trip with friends. The salmon is very well prepared, and there steak/beef choices taste as well as Ruth Chris. This is a must try for good dining!!

What a surprise! Great waitress, Madonna who had helpful recommendations, and then the beautifully presented food. Everything tasted delicious, not a bite left even though I usually take home left-overs. The luncheon special was perfect - nice size portions, and variety. I'll be coming back soon! Don't usually eat red meat, and this is the place to do it.

Nicks Chophouse has never failed!!!! It has become our "Go To" for all our special occasions and when its just a happy hour with close friends, and if ya see Nick at the back corner table, chat with him, he's a cool guy with some issues he's working through. Hugs my friend. (He's not Nick of Nicks Chophouse)

I love Nick's chophouse. The food is always good and fresh. The owners, managers and staff are friendly and courteous. They always aim to please the customers and have succeeded every time with me. I mostly eat lunch there and every once and awhile dinner. They always remember me and my preferences. Great atmosphere and even better food. They even accommodate me when I order dessert first. I say go.

I have frequented Nick's since 2007 on a regular basis. I can say I've always been treated like a Queen. Whether a couple drinks and appetizers at the bar or a full meal, the food is excellent. I love the Ahi tuna over salad. It is good quality tuna and has a light house dressing that doesn't mask the taste of the salad or the tuna. Another favorite, the crab dip. It's just well....tasty and good. Burgers.... I usually never order anywhere. But, the quality of the beef stands out and they are delicious. I've had the prime rib several times and it is of course good quality beef and cooked so that if you want true medium rare, you'll get it or they will cook it more for you. The Manager Dave makes sure everyone is taken care of properly. Bryan and Diego the regular bartenders remember your drink and are always attentive. Can't forget the stuffed mushroom caps, so delicious. You may pay a few dollars more because this place is awesome. Trust me it's worth it.....compared to all the garbage that these chain restaurants serve. Go there! .

My husband and I went to Nick's for dinner last evening and will definitely return. We started with the cheese board which was great. The cheese was delicious and fresh and the dried cherry jam was to die for! The dry aged steaks were awesome and I would recommend with no reservation. The hand cut fries were yummy. As good as the meal was, the service was out of this world. Our server made the meal magical. And also lovely, Friday nights are half price bottle of wine special! If you have never tried Nick's you really should. We have dined in many restaurants in Rockville and this was without a doubt the best yet!

Taking a lunch break and treated myself to a petit filet. Not only was the lunchtime price for this beautiful 7 oz. steak great, the cut was generous and cooked to perfection. Too bad I have to go back to work!! Will be back soon....have to have their crab cake next!

My boyfriend and I went there for dinner last night. Great service and delicious food. We are making it out new date spot. We had the oysters for appetizer and for entrees we have the salmon and steak. Great portions and the steak was so tender and well seasoned. The manager came to us to make sure the service was good, and that was a plus.

  • Sally M.

They cooked my steak exactly as I wanted - well done with no pink AT ALL. Yay! I came here for a company dinner and had the crab dip, hummus, steak with mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus, and the chocolate mousse cake. I love everything about the steak dinner, but the rest of my meal was pretty mediocre. The service was great and the atmosphere was pretty quiet for a Thursday night. There was another large business party in the private dinner room right next to us, but surprisingly we couldn't hear any noise for them.

My husband and I dined at Nick's Chophouse a couple years ago for a three-course special for Valentine's Day. It was a great meal, with wonderful service. We had not been back to Nick's since, only because it was a place that we thought of for special occasions and we don't often have the energy to "get dressed-up" for dinner. So when we wanted to have an anniversary dinner while my parents were in town, we decided to go back to Nick's. We were not disappointed! The food and the service were as good as, if not better than, we remembered. The restaurant itself is nicely decorated, but not overly-fancy...we could certainly dress down a bit more for our next dinner there. We ordered 2 prime rib meals, the filet, and a ribeye - all were seasoned beautifully. My dad ordered his prime rib medium-well (for shame!), and when it came out medium the server asked if he was happy with the doneness and would he like her to take it back for additional cook time. It was wonderful that she made the unsolicited offer, so he didn't have to ask. The only thing I would say was less than stellar was that they wouldn't substitute the side of broccoli for another vegetable. We ordered a bottle of Pinot Noir for the table, because it was their half off a bottle night. We had also purchased a Yelp voucher for $40 off our meal in advance, but found that the half off wine deal couldn't be combined with the voucher. The server was great as she explained that the half off on the bottle was more of a discount, so she made the decision and applied that. We noticed the separate bar/lounge area that looked a bit more casual, but still very nice. We will definitely be back at Nick's soon, and we still have the Yelp voucher we can use!

We went there on Saturday, March 21st for a 7:30pm reservation. Party of 5 adults and 1 child, we were there until 8:20pm before our dinner orders were taken. We ordered appetizers but asked that our meal orders not be delayed since we had been sitting there with our menus closed for quite some time before our waitress came to take our order. We asked for bread since we were so hungry. The scallop appetizer was not whole sea scallops as we expected but one big scallop sliced into three or four flat disks with sauce. The sauce obliterated the scallop flavor. The three soup sampler was good with the lobster bisque a winner. We ordered entrees of strip steak, crabcakes and Rockfish. Our meals arrived around sometime after 9pm. We were looking for our waitress all night - where had she disappeared to? We have been here before about five years ago, and thought it was great. The steaks were fabulous back then. We thought our guests would love it. They did not. The crabcakes had filler, which our diner picked out and told us that she thought there was cumin in the mix. Our strip steak had far too much gristle. The fish was fine, however. Overall, the quality of the food didn't warrant the prices. The restaurant does have a nice ambiance with white starched tablecloths and napkins, so it is a nice place to dine if you are not a foodie and don't like a lot of noise like me. We were able to leave at 9:30pm - we opted for no dessert or coffee due to the long wait, and they closed at 9:30pm, too.

Went for dinner to celebrate my mother's birthday on Saturday 3/21/15 as a party of 7 and experienced some of the worst service I've ever seen. We arrived at 6:30 for our reservation and it took THREE HOURS before we were done even though we did not order appetizers (or dessert, although we did get a free slice of chocolate cake which only began to make up for the incredibly slow and inattentive service). To top it all off, my sister, who is very visibly pregnant, was so hungry, so having to wait at least an hour and a half for food was really difficult for her. I think it took probably 20 minutes for our drink orders to arrive, and I don't think our waitress took our food orders until 45 minutes after we were seated. . It was not busy at all and we were sitting there with our menus closed looking around waiting for her to come. If there were any specials, I never heard what they were, and I had to ask what the soup of the day was Because my pregnant sister was so hungry, she asked for a basket of bread when we placed our food order. It took 15--20 minutes for the bread to come and there were only 5 slices in it, although we were a party of 7. We had to go looking for someone in order to ask for another basket of bread (this time only 6 slices). Anytime we asked for anything, it was 15-20 minutes before it came. Thankfully, my mother enjoyed her birthday steak. However, the rest of the food was mediocre. Several of us had mussels in various forms and they were just fine. The pasta with my mussels had no flavor. Disappointing on so many levels.

Had a burger at the bar... pretty good. All the tap beer was out for some crazy reason. Minus 1 Star. Bar was really disorganized, messy and kind of dirty... definitely nothing for Ruth's Chris or Cap Grill to worry about - and the burgers cost the same.

I went to Nick's tonight for the Prime Rib special. What I got was excellent service from Brian, the Bar Manager, and Dave the General Manager. It is obvious that the guests come first, with service being attentative and gracious. The prime rib was superb and perfectly cooked . The accompanying au jus and horseradish sauce were an added bonus. The sides of broccoli and baked potato were delicious. I treated myself to the rum bread pudding as recommended by Brian, and was not disappointed. An outstanding meal and wonderful attention from the entire staff. I can't wait to go back!!

    (5)
  • Alison W.

Have had to go here many times for business dinners and it gets worse each time. The food is mediocre and the atmosphere is sleepy and old. Whenever I go there for lunch or dinner, it's practically empty. The service isn't bad but that's probably because I'm usually there with a large group so we get most of the attention. One important note: it's in a cell phone dead zone. Impossible to get or make calls or texts!

    (2)
  • David H.

I went there Friday with my wife. I ordered the queen size prime rib and she ordered petite size filet magnon. Both cooked to perfection. Great service, excellent food!

  • Susan B.

Five of us went there last night. We all have gone to Nick's for years. But none of us will ever go back there again. The night just kept getting worse. The waitress only heard the order for 1 bottle of wine when we ordered two. She told me that I hadn't ordered the bottle when I distinctly told her we wanted a pinot grigio. She didn't realize that the wine list only had one. She kept disappearing and it took 45 minutes before we realized that we weren't getting white wine. She never noticed that 2 people had empty wine glasses waiting for the white wine. We ordered our dinners about 30 minutes after getting there (7:15 arrival) and we finally got our dinners at 9 pm. But it was too late. We had an elderly woman who was using a walker and had 2 walking boots and she was exhausted. We had them package our dinners to go. Then the worst of all...we asked if we could get some type of compensation for our miserable evening. It took a long time to find the manager and he was arrogant and defensive. He said our wine was half price but that was their Friday night deal. When the older woman said she wouldn't come back, his response was that he certainly wouldn't discount anything now. This is one of the most expensive restaurants in this area and I was shocked at his attitude. The food was okay but not worth the price. There are far better places that appreciate their customers. Spend your money elsewhere.

My hushand and I have been to Nick's several times dining both in the restaurant and bar area. We have never had a bad meal or experience there. The restaurant is elegantly decorated and the service is wonderful. The bar area is a great place to relax and unwind. They have a happy hour menu in the bar and the staff at the bar are fantasic, always recognizing and greeting us when we come in, especially Brian. The food is delicious and the menu is varied with great choices. We live in the in the area and Nick's is one of our favorite stops.

Nick's Chophouse is a hidden Rockville gem! Great regular menu items and a fantastic bar/happy hour menu. The bartender and manager were attentive and pleasant. My boyfriend and I came after work on a Tues for happy hour - we had drinks and shared 3 appetizers. The calamari is my favorite - best of any place around with a great dipping sauce. The crab cakes are true lump crab - not filler like a lot of places. And the chicken tenders were good as well. Great beer and mixed drinks too. If you haven't checked out Nick's for lunch, dinner, or happy hour - do yourself a favor and do so soon!

We went here for our 9 year anniversary. We were actually really impressed! This place is a hidden gem in the Rockville area. There are not many places in this area to get a great steak. We are from Gaithersburg. We checked in and found the $10 for $20 yelp deal! We ordered the chicken noodle soup. So yummy! I got the rib eye (well done, how i like it!) smothered with mushrooms, onions and garlic. Delicious! We got the garlic mashed potatoes and the seasoned french fries for sides. Again, so yummy! We did not have room for dessert but will def try it next time. Everything was great and prepared really well. The staff was attentive. We went on a Saturday night around 6:30p, and the place was pretty empty but began to pick up as the night progressed. We will definitely be frequenting this place again!

My grandson and I were treated royally from the moment we walked in the door. Not only did the staff "fall all over themselves" to cater to our every whim, but the steaks we ordered were out of this world. They were perfect as were all the sides we ordered. The manager paid a friendly visit to our table and made us feel right at home. This is a very special place for any day of the week and especially for your special occasions. We have been here s few times and each time our experience has been extra special. Go there and see what I mean. On your way out, dip into the kajumbo glass jar full of the biggest jellybeans on the planet!

The food was excellent. The service was impeccable. We skipped the appetizers and had soup and salad before our entree. We had Cream of Crab and baked onion soup; mixed green salad and an iceberg wedge with bacon and blue cheese. For entree we had a flatiron steak and rack of lamb. Desert was Creme Brûlée. Everything was cooked perfectly and exactly what we expected. The prices are very reasonable. The hostess went out of her way to make sure we had a table we liked and the waiter was there whenever we needed him. I highly recommend Nick's and I will dine there again the next time I'm in the area.

Came into Nicks Chophouse tonight since my date and I were visiting from out of town. The food was great and our server Nick was very friendly and gave phenomenal service. The only complaint I have is with the server who delivered our meals. He was very rude toward us. He delivered the food without even bothering to greet us or smile. What was even more upsetting was when I requested sauce for my meal he completely ignored me and kept walking away. I do not recall his name but I know he was of Asian decent and older looking. Nick was polite enough to check in with us and even got my sauce. Typically I'm not one to complain but a place that is that high end should review what hospitality means to that rude server.

We arrived close to closing time on a weeknight. We were very pleasantly surprised at the quality of the service at that late hour, and our meal was absolutely delicious. We had the petit fillet, and the shrimp with grits. Both entrées were cooked to perfection. We shared a bottle of Tempranillo, a very nice accompaniment. The restaurant is handsome, and extremely well-maintained. We sat at a booth and were very comfortable. Looking forward to returning and sitting outside on the patio.

Went there for Mother's day, the menu was outstanding and reasonably priced (especially for kids) they had everything from French Toast to leg of lamb to jambalaya. The desert wad also great, we really enjoyed the strawberry shortcake! Will definitely return.

We made a reservation on Open Table for Valentine's day this year. The only spot opened was 9:00 pm, but we decided we would take it. We wanted to try something new. * Review based upon years of serving so I might be a little too critical. When we walked in the restaurant was half full and the hostesses were really welcoming. When we sat down it took our server a good 5 minutes to come greet us then another few minutes to bring us water. Once our server took our order she was no where to be found. I'm assuming the food runners and other servers helped to bring our appetizers and salads, which is fine (team work is always great :) ), but once she brought our steaks out she never asked how our meal was or if we wanted anything else to drink. We would have ordered drinks, but opted to go to another bar later were we would have faster service. The couple sitting next to us expressed the same thing. They had been sitting at the table since 7:30 and just received their meal at 9:00 when we arrived! Our server had about 3 to 4 tables to serve and we could never find her. Poor girl seemed so lost. I understand if it was busy, but it was near the end of the night. At no time did I see a manager walking around to check on his restaurant and his guests except when we were leaving out he was on the phone in front of the restaurant. (Assuming he was the manager) In the end the steaks were okay, nothing too amazing, and the service was poor for a nice steakhouse on Valentine's day. Probably not a place I'd recommend which is disappointing.

Took my mother in law here for her birthday dinner. It was a great choice for her because she hates crowds and this place was not too busy/loud on a Saturday night. Others must have had the same idea because we heard "Happy Birthday dear [mumble jumble]" three times in the 1.5 hours we were there. I assume this place is more of a business lunch location or a popular happy hour venue since it is nestled in a business park in suburbia. They have a separate room for the bar area which has a beautiful large wooden bar set in a dimly lit decor of slightly dated opulence: "Smells of Rich Mahogany." Attentiveness and customer service is their Forté. The manager floated around for quality checks and to spread his friendly humor to all the diners. Food was not as consistent: Calamari - fried fresh and enjoyed by everyone. Appetizer portion was generous. Steak skewer appetizer - disappointing. For a chophouse, I expected a good sear on the meat but these fell flat and were cooked to medium well with no sear on the outside (cooked on low heat?). Cheese plate - disappointing. Slivers of brie were good but the chedder and pepper jack cheeses were of Kraft quality. Ribeye -Better sear than the steak skewers and cooked appropriately to medium rare but was nothing memorable. Baked potato side - Very good. Not overcooked, thank goodness (pet peeve). Lamb Chop - Best entrée we had but only above average for lamb chops. I got four lamb chops on the plate. Chocolate cake dessert: pretty tasty and satisfies a cake and ice cream craving but doesn't have that pastry-chef-in-the-kitchen- Wow factor. Crème brûlée - I really liked this - thick caramelized top over flavorful vanilla crème. They did a good job with a simple classic. In-laws said they enjoyed their Filet Mignon and Salmon but I did not try them personally. For a cost comparable to Houston's Woodmont Grille, I was disappointed; however, my mother in law loved it for the quiet and customer service. She's not as obsessed with food as I am. We will be back - but only for happy hour at the bar... and probably for my mother-in-law's birthday next year.

We were out for the day, lost track of time, and needed to find a place for a late lunch. We sat in the bar and were helped by the very friendly staff. Food was excellent, the steak salad was one of the best I've even had, meat was very tender and the balsamic dressing was so flavorful. The entire salad was topped off with a large piece of blue cheese. My wife had the Red Wine Braised Lamb Shank, with dried fruit couscous; roasted vegetables kept saying how good it tasted. We will be sure to stop here again when in the area. What a great find! Yelp to the rescue.

I love Nick's Chophouse! I've been dining there for years and the food, service, and ambiance are consistently amazing. It's a great venue for large celebrations or a cozy happy hour. Dave and his staff are the best!

Had a wonderful ribeye. The artichoke and crab appetizer was incredible. Loved the special dessert: get this - make your own s'mores. Manager even stopped by to see how we were doing; which was terrific

Very nice place in Rockville. The bar is quaint and not too loud. Everything that I've had from this kitchen has been fantastic. I am especially enamored with the salmon served on mashed potatoes. It was cooked perfectly. The Filet Mignon is also perfect. Their prices are very reasonable and restaurant itself is beautiful. This is definitely a hidden gem.

Overall the restaurant was not offensive but the kitchen really needs to learn to cook a steak. I ordered mine on the high end of Medium Rare and it came to me on the high end of Medium. It was edible but seemed such a waste of a decent steak. But the real issue is when my wife's order arrived. She ordered the 16 oz Ribeye - Medium rare. When it was set in front of her I immediately knew it was overdone, it had a greyish pall to it and there were no juices on the plate. She cut into it and the steak was medium in parts and medium well. Oh well this happens. We sent the steak back for a new "properly cooked" replacement. When this steak was served the outside had a nice sear but once my wife cut into it the center was cold and purple and inedible. You could tell that the kitchen had placed the steak on high heat to get the outside cooked but in essence left the inside raw. We sent this steak back to be fired again and it returned in a barely edible state. I was so offended that I thought of buying all of the Chophouse's Dry Aged Bone In Ribeyes to prevent these beautiful pieces of meat from being ruined by this untalented and hack kitchen staff. The baked potatoes were huge and adequate and the steamed broccoli was acceptable. The price paid for this meal was in no way comparable to the quality. We tried this place because we had an appointment nearby. Next time I will head to Outback.

On first look, Nick's Chop House is known for it's white tabel cloths and cheap steak. When it's too good to be true, it's too good to be true. $12.95 for a 8 oz steak lunch with an appetizer soup or salad. The New York Strip, well now I know why people only eat beef tenderloin because when it's low quality, the strip is an absolute disaster. If I was raised eating this type of NY Strip, I would hate it too. A nice day out, most people dined on the outdoor patio. The soup of the day was a lobster bisque. A gooey soup obviously thickened with the aid of a thickening agent such as flour, I scooped a spponful thinking it was "lobster" meat but it was a clump of undissolved flour. There were some kind of crustacean meat in it too but it's not lobster. An attempt to make it fancy it was served with four stalks of asparagus, mashed potatos and a red wine reduction. My first cut into the steak took some effort, it was chewy and sinewy I thought I didnt cut it against the grain so I tried again, it was impossible. About 1/3 of the steak was inedible unless you wanted to be choked by it. Oh wait let me check but I didnt wear any dentures so why was I struggling to chew this steak? My friend's tenderloin salad looked better than mine for sure. I didnt have a high expectation but this was just ridiculous.

This is one of our standard happy hour haunts. Great bartender. Good bar grub. Sometimes can be a fun crowd, sometimes just a quite place. I've eaten in the restaurant side a few times and the food is fine, pretty typical for the type of restaurant. It's a bit pricey. I only eat on the restaurant side when it's a business dinner (not my money) and even then I wouldn't call it a destination restaurant for dinner. More of a "hey, we're already here, let's eat." If the atmosphere were a bit more casual and the meals a bit less expensive, given its location, it would make a fantastic place to frequent but given the vibe and prices, not so much. I think they're really missing out on an opportunity. Now, one great secret is the lunch in the bar. They have specials every day, like meatloaf, sandwiches, etc. Prices are more reasonable and the food is very good. Odd that the two sides can be so disconnected. Really like the bar, so-so on the restaurant side. OK, let me dig deeper inside myself, truth be told, I really don't like the restaurant side. So there, I said it. Bar get's 4 stars, restaurant get's 2, average it out, there's your three stars.

3 and a half stars. only for the steak! we ordered their special, the steak was really good, like genuinly good. not insanely good though so i wont give it five stars. one star is cut off because it really needs to look a lil better . com eon, its a steakhouse! and dont make booths that feel like ur sitting on stage...they are sooo not private ...i was facing everyone! our server was a sweetie pie he was young...the older guy who welcomed us wasnt so sweet...i dont know any of their names...but stick the younger sweetie PRICE? its just really expensive...just go to safeway buy something for a dollar, get the coupon off the back of the reciept and then have 1/2 off ur second entree so u dont spend 80 dollars sitting on stage facing a senior citizen building..... (asparagus was really yum btw)

As far as the steaks go, really good and delicious. Cooked perfectly. My husband and I couldn't be happier with our meal. I wouldn't say their dessert is very good, however. Next time we'll skip that. Overall we really liked it and will be back!

Salmon was raw and had to be sent back. Second go around, the salmon was over done, dry and tasted microwaved. Shrimp was fishy tasting. Asked for wedge salad without onions, and it arrived with no toppings and had to be sent back as well.

We walked in during lunch hour and was pleasantry surprised by the variety of food offered and the wonderful host who greeted us. Service was wonderful. Food quality was great. All and all an excellent place to have lunch, dinner etc. We are going back and becoming regular for this place. Loved it.

  • Erica Y.

Ok, I don't know how anyone can say this place is too expensive. For dinner for an 18 oz Ribeye for $26...how is that expensive? Yes you have to pay for the sides, but that's pretty standard in most steakhouses. I've only had dinner here once, but it was good. However, I come here for lunch often (walking distance from my office) and they have some great sandwiches for less than $10 - the California Club (it has a good chunk of lobster meat in it!) is my favorite at just $9. Their crab cake sandwich is always good at $13. I like the fries too, and I love their mashed potatoes. They now have this daily recession lunch specials for $5.95. I only know Mondays is the angus burger, and Wednesdays lasagna, don't remember the other days. Happy hour from 4-7 they have food specials for $5, and beer $4 maybe and wine $6? Again, I highly recommend this place for lunch and dinner.

I have previously reviewed this place and panned them because of their poor service in the bar area. Mainly the staff's obvious desire for us to leave so they could go home - this was right after we were seated. Yesterday I decided to go ahead and try their Thanksgiving dinner. The traditional turkey dinner was OK - however it included a visit to their "sides table" which was barron. Now we were seated late (our choice) and I am sure everything had just been picked through but I would expect at $30 a plate they would replenish things. Also the staff seemed confused as to who was handling what table and they weren't really good at answering questions. This is a great choice for the folks in the convalescent home across the street - but if you are able to drive somewhere else - I'd recommend it. I still recommend the bar - IF you get them on a night when the staff feels like playing along.

Just went here for lunch. My friends lunches were great. Mine was awful. I got the sauteed calamari--- there were bits of shell throughout it. The waiter never came back. Finally I signaled another waiter through the glass that I didn't want my dish after having eaten 4 pieces of shell. He apologized, and tried to bring me another dish--- but by that time, my friends had already finished their meals. Next time I come back- I'm sticking to steak or burgers. The outdoor seating was nice.

If you want to get sloppy drunk, get "friendly" with bar patrons and keep the drinks coming, this is your place! Mgt stays mostly out of sight and bar staff takes no responsibility...food is pretty good...

Brian the bartender was excellent. Fairly quiet bar on a weeknight, but perfect for a traveler looking for a quality, tasty, and wholesome meal and a beer or cocktail. Try the cream of crab soup. It's chowder with a crab kick. Everyone at the bar was well-taken care of and Brian kept the atmosphere social for some couples and singles at the bar alike.

Hadn't eaten there in years and years. Thought I'd give it a try for Valentines Day. Should be a nice quiet dinner with good quality food. Unfortunately, it was underwhelming. Not their fault, but there were two huge parties of about 16 each taking up the entire middle portion of the restaurant. They were grossly loud. Worse than the dining room at Average Joes at Kentlands. They had a nice sounding V day menu. However ... * Crabcakes too bready with too much spice * Lamb chops not succulent. Too dry and fatty. * Cake for dessert was HUGE! Carrot cake was very, very cold. I understand it has to be kept cold due to cream cheese icing. But it must have been kept in deep fridge until right before serving (despite the fact that it was ordered at beginning of meal). Service was fine. No complaints. Free roses given to all the women, and chocolates on plates were nice v-day touch. They tried hard, but the food means I won't come back anytime soon. Maybe for happy hour outside once the weather is nice.

Excellent!!! Food was tasty, service was good and just reasonably priced for a neighborhood steakhouse. Wine list is pricey but the quality seems good. In any case $44 for the cheapest bottle is steep. The meat quality was excellent and easily comparable to any of the big name steakhouses. I had a big 26 which is 26 ounces of ribeye for $39. This would be the price at the other steakhouses for a 16 ounce rib eye. Excellent food, great service and good prices... Easy to recommend to my friends!

  • Arindam P.

Three of us went to Nick's for a business/casual dinner. While my ribeye with "au povoir" was really good, the others did not have an enjoyable experience. The culprit being the house rub that contains anchovies! I like anchovies but I would dare not pair it with a nice juicy chunk of meat - seemed too ambitious. Service was not at all good - took a long time just to get us a bottle of wine and the server had hardly any knowledge of the wines on the list.

Nice host. Wait staff attentive. Ambiance nice. Food super expensive for what you get. At least throw in a small salad or side when I'm paying $30 for 2 crab cakes. Children's meal was $7 and came with just 3 ravioli! But overall, the food was decent. Crab cakes had lump meat and were fairly tasty. My husband's steak was OK, but it came out medium rare instead of medium. Will likely not return due to what you get for your money.

I love this place! It seems great for anything from a date to a business dinner. I went for a business dinner last night. It was about 22 people that they were able to accomadate with ease. The service was really exceptional, as was the food. We had the ahi tuna appetizer, crab and lobster roll, and beef skewers. The tuna and rolls were delicious, but the skewers were too sweet in my opinion. They have a great selection of steaks and seafood for dinner. I opted for the filet mignon with crab cake and lobster bisque soup. Filet was like butter, so smooth and tender. The crab cake came with a chipotle aoili drizzle on top. Lobster bisque was actually pretty gross, and not really for me. Over-all, this is a great establishment with great service and even better food. Definetly making plans to come here again!

Great food, great service! The atmosphere is intimate and the noise level is very low. Great place to have dine. we had the crab and artichoke dip for an appetizer. I had the filet and crab cake, side of spinach. My husband had a filet and lobster, side of baked potato. The sides were big enough to share. We also shared a brownie sundae for dessert. Everything was cooked perfectly and delicious.

The decor is nice and the restaurant appears clean. Our server and host-owner were both pleasant, but not up to the level most steakhouse employ to serve a $100 per person meal. Our meals were both too rare for our liking (and I mean rare) of which they gladly took back and recooked. Even the cut of the filet was just fair. This event took forever, even on a week day when maybe 4 table were occupied. Taking back a steak in a steakhouse to re-cook to me is below par.

  • Charlotte B.

Steakhouse in the burbs. Quality of food was good, but prices were very, very high. You pay extra to get any kind of side with your dinner, which I find annoying--if you don't order a side dish with your dinner, your steak is served on a practically naked plate, which just seems ridiculously cheap and unfriendly at these prices.

    (2)
  • Manny P.

Clearly one of the best steakhouses in the area. The quality of the steaks is phenomenal, and the service is impeccable. we come at least once a month for the ribeye, which is BETTER than Ruths or Mortons. It's not cheap, but worth it.

This is a decent place and the meat is nicely done. Good, quiet atmosphere in a suburban setting. My one complaint echoes another review on here: the additional pricing for sides to the main course is a bit much.

What a diamond in the rough! Came here for a business dinner. I called at least twice during the day to make changes to my reservation. Over the phone, Lou was very friendly and accommodating. 3 of the 5 in my party are clear foodies, and the other 2 have been in sales to have eaten just about everywhere at one time or another. Arrive at the restaurant, it's mostly empty on a Monday night. The decor is nice, but a bit unique. It's not dated looking, just not modern trendy. It's a bit more kitschy, like it was decorated by someone older or from another generation. Still, the restaurant is clean and service is solid. Appetizers- calamari and ahi tuna with wasabi sauce and beurre blanc. Calamari is perfectly cooked and delicious. It comes with a chipotle aioli and a spicy housemade marinara. Blackened ahi tuna is also deliciously red and yummy. Would recommend both. Soup and salad - Table ordered house salad, iceburg wedge, and cream of crab soup. I didn't try it, but everyone seemed very happy with their selection. Was told the cream of crab soup had sherry in it, and should've been called a bisque - but it was very good. Entree's - I had the rib-eye steak with the oscar preparation (crab, asparagus, and Bearnaise sauce. I ask for the sauce on the side, but when my meal comes, I have 3-4 very large stalks of asparagus with lump crabmeat on top. Not a bad uplift for $6. Steak was cooked to perfection and was well-seasoned. Review from others at the table - Filet and crabcake combo (filet had the Mediterranean preparation) - well prepared. The crabcake was not the best they've had, but the Mediterranean preparation made the filet worthwhile. This is the same eater who left filet on his plate at Stella's restaurant. Surf and Turf - filet and lobster tail - was excellent. Everyone else at the table commented their steaks were cooked perfectly and the presentation as well as the meal itself was very enjoyable. Sides - mashed potatoes, haricot vert, broccoli, asparagus - all were beautiful in appearance, simple in preparation but delicious. I've been to places were my veggies were swimming in oil, and this is not one of them. We skipped deserts as we were all stuffed. The bread pudding made with croissants and served with a creme Anglaise looked delicious.. but I just didn't have space for it. Everyone at the table remarked at what a great restaurant/find it was. Service was very good. Our server was attentive without being too intrusive. Drinks were filled regularly throughout the meal. I don't understand why people reviewing this restaurant are upset that the sides are additional. Most quality steak houses serve this way (been to Morton's recently?) and the pricing and quality are on par (or better) with them. Overall, everyone at the table was more than satisfied with their meal. You get the best of both worlds with Nick's - high end steak house with good food, in a local setting where you don't have to drive to Bethesda or DC. I'd give this place a solid 4-4.5 stars, but will give it 5 just to offset the low stars given by those that think this place is on par with Outback or Longhorn. This place is heads and shoulders above Stella's.

Good service, good food, bad idea to bring small children. The staff handled our uncooperative 7 year old with care and finesse. Food was average, I would compare this place to Morton's. Nothing new or exciting, but good quality food. The extra star was for the above average service.

Don't bother. Nasty service. We went with our son on his birthday. He wanted to order off their bar menu though we were sitting in their restaurant and the rest of our party was ordering off the dinner menu. The servers refused to do that. We complained to the manager at the end who was so panicked that we'd call the owner and he said he'd send a gift certificate to come back-it's been 11 months-and we haven't and will not return. Too bad too, we used to go every month and either have dinner or snacks and drinks in the bar. My husband hosted a work dinner there as well. Do they know how much money they lost by "following policy?" Doubt it.

The food was good, but the service was not great. My wife & I went there last night for dinner with one other couple. The restaurant was a bit cold. The food was great, but on a pricy side. The staff didn't look too friendly & but our waiter was nice. The short older guy on a jacket walked around, but didn't have a single smile on his face. If im paying over $100 for two people, at least i expect for the Manager and the Staff to be pleasant. This place for me is good to go once every 6-7 months.

A simple & elegant steakhouse in a high rise at King Farm. The calamari appetizers were yummy(don't think about the fat content) Their veal chop & crab cakes were excellent. you may want to skip the wine and dessert & head to Rio spa to work out meal. Enjoy, CHOP CHOP
