Stopped in after a pedicure, randomly, for a take out order. What I assume was the owner, could not have been nicer. I ordered a chicken kabob salad, a "Feast 3" which consisted of a chicken kabob and a lamb kabob with rice, hummus and pita and baklava. Everything was delicious - pita's were made fresh right there. Will definitely order from there again!

The first time I ever ate here, I had a daily special. It came with rice some of which stuck together and was HARD -- about the consistency of the dry ramen in the packs you buy at the supermarket that are supposed to be softened with hot water. I was not very favorably impressed, and only today, several months later, did I decide to give it another chance. This time I ordered a regular item, kebab-e-kubideh (the Iranian equivalent of kefta kebab), which is frequently my choice in these Iranian kebab places because it is relatively cheap but I like it. It came with slices of raw onion on top -- I've never seen that before on this dish, and I had to spend a couple of minutes picking off the onions, which I really had no desire to eat! The meat was somewhat underdone -- not to the point of inedibility, but noticibly -- and the rice, though this time was all right in texture, seems to have been seasoned only in some places, with other parts of the rice totally devoid of seasoning. In short, not an experience that would suggest I give this place another chance. When I give a place three stars, this means it is not inedible, but I'm not likely to choose to come back.

Yep, it really is a three star restaurant. I finished my meal still hungry and waiting for the Mediterranean feel. The food is quite bare with little sauces. The meat is a bit better but still fails to live up to expectation. I will come back here, if it's raining and I can't go elsewhere like it is now. I feel they can do better ( they definitely have the space for improvement).

Sadly, I must agree with the most recently written reviews. The food has gone downhill over the past 6 months, it appears. We had been stopping in for years and thoroughly enjoyed the hummu, falafel, cucumber sauce, rice (usually ordered an extra just so we had it for later) and were crazy about the freshly made pita. Today, though, we got an order that was altogether inedible and tasteless. The rice was overcooked but had chunks of hard, undercooked grains. The falafel had no flavor whatsoever and the pita had an odd grainy texture that was less than appetizing. In the "old days" of late 2014, these things would never have happened. We were hoping that this was just an anomaly but it sounds as though others have similar experiences. What a shame!!!
(2)Shawn H.
If you're a frequenter of a similar area multi location place, the chicken here is comparable. Beef filet is BETTER. Kashk/eggplant, not at all great. That's all we had. Oh, and the rice was not as nice. Same prices.

I just went for my second trip to this place. My experience both times have been decent. It certainly isn't a place to write home about, but the food is tasty enough. Food: I ordered a chicken kabob with rice. It comes with cooked tomatoes and fresh pita bread too. I find the bread tasty when dipped in the yogurt sauce. The rice isn't very flavorful, just plain normal rice. The chicken this time was a little on the dry side and tasted a little too charred for my liking. Service: you order and then pick your food up from the counter. The guy working is very friendly and answers questions about the food. Atmoshpere: it's a pretty laid back set up. Just some tables and chairs with fake flowers on the table. I will note I saw they serve faloodeh there. This is a very unique dessert that is worth trying. I can't vouch for their quality but I enjoy it when my boyfriend's mom prepares it. It is not a typical American dessert.

Super casual eat in or take out place with great food. Had lamb and loved it! Very clean and quite. Seems to have a number of regulars flowing in and out. I would go back.
(4)Tahirah W.
Not sure how this place got 3,4 and 5 star ratings. The food is about 2 stars on a good day.
(2)Mina A.
I love their food. First time here with family and we found something for everyone. The owner is so nice and he makes THE BEST chai ever. The kubideh is so juicy and taste so good. Defintly recommended
(5)Jane C.
I've gone without gyros since the Ambrosia Grill closed. The yogurt sauce here is the best I've ever had. I didn't think you'd believe me if I gave them 5 stars on my first visit. But I'll be back, and their score from me may well go up. No, they were not slow. I can't go to Virginia every time I want gyros. Sheesh. Why don't you just suggest I pop over to Greece for lunch? (These deserving, hardworking people don't deserve nay-saying from spoiled children.)
(4)Benjie D.
I ordered a fillet kabob with rice. It was a decent lunch for a kabob place. The steak was delicious, tasty and chewy. The rice that came with it had shredded cheese on top which made the meal kind of dry. The price was under $13 without the drinks which I think made this place more on the expensive end. I would come back here for variation from other restaurants like Mexican / American. Three star for being average.
(3)Chris M.
Consistently excellent lamb kabob and rice. It's a bit expensive for what you get, and you shouldn't expect any frills with ambience or customer service. However, given those factors, it's a good place to grab a kabob to-go.
(3)R M.
I got the chicken with salad. Really yum! Owner was nice and food was quick. Okay ambiance. A bit pricey though!
(4)Alexander R.
Awesome food. Lots of options. If you're hungry, go for the feast! Only complaint is that they didn't know their own wifi password so i was forced to eat and rush over to Starbucks. If they fixed this, they'd deserve 5 stars.
(4)Josh F.
Good food, but when I went the portion of lamb given to me was so minuscule that I confused it for a vegetarian platter.Would give it another try.
(2)Ayush P.
Slow service. Felt like I waited forever. I had hoped that the food would have made the wait worth it. Sadly this was not the case. The salads felt really overpriced for what we got and were mediocre tasting. The only reason this is getting three is because the lamb kabobs are actually really good.
(3)Paige S.
Besides the fact that they're cash only and their decor is a little dated, it's still the best kabob place in town. They always have fresh, hot pita and extremely friendly service. Combo 2 with filet is the way to go.
(5)Emacs V.
I was afraid after reading the reviews but the food in this place is usually good Had the lamb several times and it's usually good, so they are mostly consistent
(5)Melanie M.
A little pricey but TOTALLY worth it. Amazing chicken kabobs here. It took a while for my food to be prepared; so, I'd suggest calling ahead or coming here when you aren't in any sort of rush (unless you're in the mood for a long lunch that day).
(4)Idris U.
Decent place with friendly staff, especially if you are tired of crowded restaurants and long lines. The food is quite good as well. I always get chicken kabob with rice and bread and am quite satisfied with the taste and the portion.
(5)Adam F.
Not the best in the world and not the worst either. Had a chicken kabob with rice last night. The chicken was well cooked but was a bit bland, it definitely could use more seasoning. I like that they grilled the tomato pieces that came separate from the kabob, but wish they had grilled the onion slices too. The fresh pita bread was a disappointment. It lacked any kind of flavor, and was a bit tough to chew. In all, Mediterranean House of Kabob is a solid if unspectacular place to grab an inexpensive meal. Since I can walk here from my home I'll probably come again, but I certainly wouldn't drive to eat here.
(3)Natalie F.
I usually go to Moby Dick house of Kabob when I want Mediterranean fast food but this place was a nice alternative today. I ordered the falafel sandwich which was almost identical to Moby Dick's but had just a little something extra. I really enjoyed the flavors and extra veggies like cucumbers and tomatoes bursting from the warm pita bread. The amount of food you get for your money here is amazing too! My friend ordered the chicken sandwich, which also looked delicious and packed full of veggies and feta cheese. They also have lots of other authentic delights from the Mediterranean like stuffed grape leaves, olives, hummus, baklava and much more. The staff here is exceptionally friendly and really fast with your order. The location is convenient to the White flint metro station and if you're driving, there is plenty of free parking.
(4)Mel S.
I hope I came on a bad day and this is not the norm because this was a very bad experience. I ordered a lamb kakob with rice & the lamb was so tough that I couldn't cut it or chew it & my rice was hard & undercooked. My boyfriend ordered a chicken & beef kabob with rice & the rice was also hard. His chicken was good but the beef was soggy in the middle with a weird texture. We had never been there before & love kabobs so decided to stop but that will be the 1st and last time.I also asked if our orders came with bread and was told no so we ordered bread. Come to find out it did come with our food so we ended up paying $34 for 2 barely edible entrees with bread, the extra bread we ordered with hummus because he said it didn't come with it (we didn't even want hummus) and 2 drinks. I'm giving it a 1 because the chicken was the only thing we really ate.
(1)Sarah C.
Cash only. I know the top business section reads 'Accepts Credit Cards: No' but it's worth mentioning once more. They do have an ATM inside close to the ordering area. We were here during linner (between lunch and dinner) so it was dead. There were only two other couples seated. Glad we decided to try their eats. It's tasty. He had the beef kabob w/bread while I was curious about the chicken kabob w/rice. And the sound of the dough beat-down means fresh bread was on its way to our stomachs. My order also came w/slices of bread so yay for me. Pics of our goodies are found in their business profile yelp.com/biz/mediterrane… His two long strips of beef tasted oniony and peppery - mm mm good. The bread was soft and chewy. Satiated our carb needs. My wonderfully seasoned/marinated chunks of chicken were surprisingly moist. 'Twas a good batch of chicken. The white runny sauce reminded me of a watered-down ranch dressing w/cucumbers - actually complimented the mixture of plain and yellow rice. Another great joint for quick eats. Can't wait to hear more thumps and beatings of dough during our next visit.
(4)Terinee B.
Bread was slightly burnt (black). Chicken was mediocre as best. Salad dressing ruined the salad for me. AND they only take cash. If it were a spot where the food was the bomb, thy would be justifiable, but I refuse to pay an extra $5 to your in-house ATM only to pay you again for some disappointing food!
(2)Sahar R.
I have a hard time understanding the high ratings. We came in here during lunch when it was dead empty which is odd at lunch time in suburban hell. As an advance warning it is indeed cash only. I must say your meal will be ruined if your lunch companion uses the Bristol Stool Chart (see: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fi… ) to compare the meat on his gyros (it was definitely a Type 3). Even worse if the gyros meat is really chewy and dry like jerky. I had the chicken kabob. Nothing really flavorful. I drowned it in sumac. The rice was pretty messed up. No saffron flavor, although it was a bold yellow color, which I don't want to think about. The bread however is home made right there and was the best part of the meal. Keep the chart for after your meal as a reference. You'll need it.
(2)Omid A.
This was my 2nd visit at Mediterranean kabob. I had feast #2 with bread both visits. The bread is really on point and the kabob is cooked really well. I also had the egg plant dip (kashk o Bademjoon) which was good as well. I was a bit hesitant to eat here at first b/c of some of the reviews but I'm sure glad I tried this place.
(5)Stephanie D.
food is delicious & inexpensive. they have a real clay oven to make their naan! so great. i work close by, but never eat on work days, b/c my fiance and i always visit on the weekends. you have to order the kashk-o bademjon (eggplant dip/appetizer), it's to die for! we always take the food to go, b/c the store it's that fun to eat in, but i bet that helps keep the prices down.
(5)Jessica S.
I found this place on accident - I didn't have enough cashola to enjoy the Vegetable Garden next door, so I ended up here. The place is a bit hole-in-the-wall-ish, so I had high hopes. I ordered the chicken kabobs with salad, the hubs had a falafel, and we split the hummus and bread. Fantastic! The chicken was super moist and juicy, and the salad had actual fresh veggies, big chunks of mushrooms, tomatoes, cucumber, onion, etc. The tzatziki they serve with the salad is great, and the flat bread was fresh from the oven warm (we watched them make it while we were ordering). My hubby's falafel was REALLY good - a bit different than most I've seen in the area, as it's wrapped in the flat bread, and the falafel balls themselves were incredibly moist and flavorful. I'm giving it 4 stars because I'm not sure if this was a fluke thing, or if this place is really fantastic - I'm actually going back tomorrow for a repeat performance of the falafel, so I may have to up the stars to 5 if I'm as wonderfully satisfied as I was the last time.
(4)Alan W.
This is an ideal lunch spot. Passable lamb kabobs in large portions with just the right amount of sauce. Three stars because of the location and the atmosphere. There was someone yelling like a crazy person on a phone in the corner so it really detracted from the overall experience. Still, go for the food!
(3)Warren A.
I used to come to Mediterranean House of Kabob once a week on average back when I worked down the street. I would always get a falafel sandwich. That streak ended when I moved to Baltimore in 1999, and I had been back maybe a half dozen times between then and today. I was glad to see the place had not changed. It is still a clean, roomy, comfortable experience, and the falafel is still as good as any I have had. It is a very simple falafel with minimal toppings (tomato, cucumber, a little onion and tahini sauce with a side of cucumber dressing) in a rolled pita bread instead of a pocket. The bread - which is prepared in some sort of stone-fire contraption - tends to be quite chewy when it is not fresh. Though I had hardly been in the place for the last 7 years, the gentleman running the place ordered my falafel as I walked in, just like the old days. The whole staff is very friendly, in fact. The only thing wrong with the place is that it's right next to Vegetable Garden, which presents an anxiety-inducing decision every time I find myself in the parking lot!
(4)Thomas R.
The best gyro I've ever had. Go there. Do it. Do it.
(5)Chip Z.
Been eating here for almost 10 years. For what it is, 5 stars. Tasty kabobs; great and fresh pita; clean; friendly staff, some of whom have been working there for ages. Best chicken and beef kabobs I've had in DC area. Cheap. Consistent. So that's why 5. Now here are the negatives, but in my view do not kick it down to 4 (I'd go 4.5 if that were an option.) Not enough high chairs--beware if you need a high chair during prime lunch or dinner hours. Zero ambiance--don't take a date there unless you are SURE she cares only about food and NOTHING about ambiance. Often empty at off-times, which I like but some people may find depressing. Not a wide menu selection; maybe 6-8 core items, plus a special of the day. They do the core items great, and do not try to cover everything. Cash only. If you are a fan of kabobs, you really need to give this place a try. I think you'll be sad to return to your old kabob spot, especially if it's one of the chains.
(5)Deepak B.
I enjoyed the hole in the wall excellent food this establishment provides. Be sure to call before you drive up here near closing time. Their hours can be hit or miss. But, this place is worth the drama. ESP late at night cravings...
(4)Irene W.
This place is good when you need a kabob fix. But Kabob Palace in Crystal City is still the place to go to get authentic kabobs. I stick to the lamb kabob with bread which also comes with grilled tomatoes and onions and yogurt sauce. And one more tip - if you are going for lunch, try going a little before noon to beat the crowds.
(3)Javi V.
The food was good for the purpose of having a quick meal, and the owner was friendly and honest. A good guy doing his business, and I value that.
(3)Maria S.
We had hopes visiting here for the first time since good Persian restaurants are prolific across the metro area. The food was okay several of the dishes we wanted were out, on a Wednesday night. Our chief complaint was related to the service. While energetic, the gentleman taking our order didn't know the menu, saying it wasn't his culture and couldn't answer basic questions about the dishes. We had several items to go that were missing though we caught it before leaving. However, our Greek salad made it back home without any salad dressing, a big oops. We won't be back since there are many other great kabob houses with superior service.
(2)Daniel E.
This place is very legit; traditonal baked bread, falafel actually made from fava beans, sumac shakers on the table, and friendly and fast service to boot. I give the low rating because the food just wasn't that great. Nothing had anything wrong with it...it just wasn't really anything to rave over. I will say, the lamb meat itself from the kebab sandwich I had was delicious, the surrounding sandwich was a bit "meh".
(3)Zara K.
Iv tried Amsterdam Falafal, iv tried falafal pretty much everywhere and what makes a FALAFAL is not loads of vegetables but the FALAFAL BALLS themselves. This place is by far the BEST falafal place in the D.C area . Its not fancy, its very unfancy actually they should make it fancier to get the crowd from Amsterdam Falafal coming to rockville!! LOVE THE FALAFAL. Delicious
(4)Ali S.
I came back again for my favorite special and it was oversalted. Food quality is perhaps inconsistent and it bumps the rating down a notch knowing there is chance involved on whether there's a really good meal or a bad one.
(3)Navdeep S.
I love Mediterranean food. I have been to so many middle eastern food places. I went to Mediterranean House of Kabob with my wife for a lunch. It was the worst experience I ever had of a food in my life. My wife's food was not fully cooked, Rice had a moldy taste and they served me with the stale reheated fried Gyro. When my wife just wanted to let the service person know that her food is not fully cooked, he totally ignored her and latter started arguing with her. This was so disrespectful. When I asked for the manager's number the server said he does't have it. Wait until he comes and he said he does't care. He never gave any contact information of the owner or the manager. I think owner of this restaurant should know what happens at his restaurant. This is the worst restaurant in Rockville, Silver Spring and Kensington area. Food is very bad and service is even worse. I don't recommend anyone to waste their money, health and time at this place.
(1)Ani P.
I ordered a chicken kabob plate. Everything was bland. Bland a$$ chicken. Bland a$$ rice with lentils. Bland. Bland. Bland. For shame. On the plus side, they bake their own pita bread in a tandoor (clay oven). That's cool. The only thing that made me happy were the slices of raw onion -- flavor yo. Never again.
(3)Samantha B.
It was alright. I have been wanting to try this place. The pita bread did not seem that fresh and it was kinda chewy. The meat pieces need to be smaller as they filled up most of the bread. The meat was okay, not the best that I have never had. The service was quick. I ordered and 10 minutes later it was waiting for me. I don't think I would go here again though.
(3)MaJ C.
Had lunch here today, Be for warned! It is CASH or PERSONAL CHECK only. NO CC's. Nor, as he says, does he plan to. Past that part, the Falafel Is friggin' Delicious. Must be mad fresh, wrapped in a hand made Pita, wow. My favorite Falafel in this neck of the woods, hands down. The portion was so huge, I thought, "There is no way I can eat that" The flavors blended so well, it was almost too easy. Yum. Thanked on the way out. *sigh* I love this place!
(4)Dee B.
I still like Moby Dick's chicken better, but Mediterranean's beef kabob was less greasy than Yekta's or Moby's. Rice portion - very generous. Service - quick. Yogurt sauce - a bit too minty for my taste. Prices - similar to Yekta or Moby (8.99 for chicken kabob w/ rice, 8.40 for beef). Baklava - very inexpensive ($1.75) and quite good. Two different employees thanked us as we were leaving -- I'll definitely be back.
(4)Semra E.
I feel that I am constantly trying to find the best places for a good Kabob lunch in the Rockville area. You would think that being in such a diverse city I wouldn't have this issue, but alas I always find myself trying to find that perfect FIT and sometimes, it just doesn't work out in the end. But I found my spot for lunch right on the Pike!!! That's right, Rockville is rockin' it out with it's Kabob out (ok that didn't rhyme, but you get where I'm going with this). I haven't been this happy since I tasted Denny's after a long night of drinking. The price is right for the food. Bring CASH, they don't take debit or credit cards, they're a CASH ONLY spot, but usually in my experiences that's always been a GOOD sign with how authentic & delicious the food is going to be. BAM, I was right, it's like Moby Dick's without the "chain feel." Your taste buds will thank you later.
(4)Jennifer L.
Sandwich has only 4 small peaces of meat, for 10 bucks you expect some decent fast food. Chicken was dry did not had any taste or flavor. Mobydick or Yekta has much better Mediterranean food. However, people who were working at registry were very nice and polite. Considering taste of food, I am doubt that I ever will be back there.
(1)Pankaj A.
Juicy on the inside, charred on the outside - perfection! And fresh bread baked in their oven in front of me
(5)Stephanie D.
I am staying around the corner for a conference, and walked over to grab dinner to go. Their pita was fresh and much better than the bagged stuff you buy in the store. The steak in my kabob seemed fresh, the dolmas were still warm. I enjoyed this little place better than most of the larger business restaurants in the area where I've eaten most of my meals.
(3)Ioanna L.
The best gyros i've had in the DC area!!! I think a good gyro is dependent on the quality of the food, but also on the preference of the beholder... Whenever i order a gyro here (CASH ONLY!!) they MAKE AND BAKE THE BREAD for the sandwich!!!!!!!!!!! It really makes the whole sandwich taste sooo fresh! The cucumber yogurt sauce is nice, I'd prefer a little more... of course like most (moby dicks, etc) they charge 1.25 for an extra container of sauce. But 5.99 US cash for the most amazing gyro my mouth has ever encountered????? omg!!!!! the other places i have tried: all the moby dick's locations in the dc/md area gyro's at the hookah bars, georgetown, and tenleytown the gyro place next to trader joe's in gburg ... the gyro place off of snouffer school (horrible)
(5)Kristy A.
I have moved away from MD and still crave the food here. I have been to cheap and high end Mediterranean places from the East coast to West coast and in between, and this is the only one that makes their own hummus and pita. Yeah its a little annoying that they only take cash, or that the pita guys make a lot of noise and tend to check out all the females that come in, but the food is well worth it. I think all the people who don't like it are just used to the crap pita you other restaurants get from the bag!
(5)Stacy S.
$1.25 for extra Tahini for a place that sits in a Shopping center? Their $6.30 Falafel sandwich isn't that great what some of the other people think. The size of the sandwich is big, but its still not the best Falafel you can get in town. I would go to Amsterdam any given day/night in Adams Morgan. I wouldn't go there again. Its not worth it.
(1)Thugnificent M.
I've been here a handful of times. They don't take credit, just cash. Everything is pretty good here if you're a fan of kabobs. Nothing too extravagant but good lunch food. The hummus is really plain, but I get it everytime I go. The lamb plate is their best meal. Get it with the bread not the rice. The pita bread is made fresh in front of you.
(4)Emma W.
This place makes their own bread, so its fun to watch them make it... The chicken kabob sandwich is very tasty... altho I'm not a big fan of the sauce. But I liked the food without it anyways. They do provide cups for water if you want it. Note: nor sure if they have AC. The do have ceiling fans....
(4)Audrey K.
Small, nothing fancy, but a good place to grab a quick lunch. It's across the street from white flint metro. The chicken kabob plate is good - the meat is tender & juicy and well seasoned. They accept credit cards now. Not crazy about the falafel. Be warned - it's next to an adult store with racy displays.
(3)Cristine C.
I came here for lunch one afternoon with my coworkers. it is a very casual, take-out place but also has a decent sized sit down area. The food was good, but not what I expected for Mediterranean.
(3)Grace D.
So, I was craving good Mediterranean food and stumbled across this place.... Honestly, don't waste your money on this spot. I have had sooo much better. The rice was unflavored, there were too many large onion pieces and the baklava was terrible. the only good thing was the lamb kabob. The owner gave us extra bread.... which was a plus I guess. Another reason why I wont be returning is because how he treats his staff. He seems like a very angry man...
(2)Tim J.
Came in here after walking by it every day for a couple months. I should have just kept walking. I was sharing two dinners. We got the lamb platter and falafel sandwich with extra cucumber sauce. I loved that the pita were made to order, but I wasn't a fan of the actual pita, which was a huge surprise and disappointment. The lamb was ok. It didn't have much seasoning, and was a bit more chewy than it should have been, but overall, if that's all I had, I would say it was average. The falafel was fal-awful (get it?). After eating it, or two bites rather, I did see some reviews on here that it made from fava beans, but never asked at the restaurant. That's like putting fried chicken on the menu and serving tofu if it is true, but I digress. The seasoning was not there at all in the falafel mix, and I heard her use the microwave to thaw them out before she fried them, resulting in a semi soggy wet falafel instead of a crispy firm delicious nugget of garbanzo. Maybe the gyro is alright, but not sure it's worth the risk considering I am not a fan of the pita.
(2)C J.
This place is good. And reasonably priced. The hummus is a little too creamy and heavy. And no fish kabobs. But I enjoy it and go often and get the falafel. Which is decent.
