Since I am a local I eat here often and it is great Italian food at a reasonable price. Food is always fresh and the service is excellent. A little hard to find in a strip mall on Gude Dr. but worth the hunt.

I've been there a few times to get a grasp of the place and I can say I like it a whole lot. For me the best item on their menu is the Cioppino. It's very impressive in size and the seafood is very fresh. I can't overstate how great and filling it is. I'm used to not getting my fill at certain Italian places but I have no such complaints here particularly wit that dish. Every now and then they have holiday specials which means certain items are available for a limited time. I was big fan of their "Mothers Lasange" and their scallop risotto. Both are incredibly filling which for me is rather important at an Italian restaurant. Sure I could order several appetizers to make up for a small entree but I'd rather not. On the somewhat lower end of the menu are their pizzas. I can't get a pizza like that anywhere else. The prosciutto pizza is perfect as is their meatball pizza. The wait service has always been very fine and respectful to us and treated us like a adults even when were were obviously the youngest folks there (some places are judgmental about that). Overall it's been a consistently great experience.

My husband and I have eaten at Baronessa Restaurant for a very long time. The ingredients are always fresh and the dishes never disappoint. Ms. Cenere's staff has been with her for many many years. There is no turnover among her staff, which speaks volumes for the manner with which she manages her restaurant. When you set foot at Baronessa, you are greeted as if you were a member of the family. Ms. Cenere's cooking well exemplifies authentic home cooking.

Rockville, MD. Good food and service. A bit pricey. Main dishes start at around $20. We shared a seafood combo with linguini in white garlic sauce. Delicious. Our friends ordered chicken marsala and pasta carbonara. Both looked very good and we're reportedly delicious. Would return.

Horrible, awful, worst overpriced restaurant I have ever been to. The chicken tasted like it was a week old and my husbands pasta had to be sent back. They did take it off the check but charged him for the side salad that came with it. What a joke! The manager didn't even care to come and check on us she just gave us a look while she was talking to our server ( clearly about us complaint about the food). The food is also expensive...$25 for some spaghetti. do not go there. I am capable of making a more authentic Italian dinner than this place and I Can't even cook. Update: response to the comment from manager: if you were there that night then you should have came out and talk to us, if you weren't then how do you know your food was fresh? Also, I don't know who are " all of the customers" you are mentioning, me and my husband were the only 2 people at your restaurant.

I know good Italian food and this place does some things really really well. I live on their Gamberi Fra Diavolo. The staff is super friendly and you can tell everyone takes their jobs very seriously. I see the reviews of the Ciopino and now will have to try that but I can't stress enough how much I LOVE the Gamberi Fra Diavolo

I can't believe this restaurant gets a good review. If mine is showing 2 stars that is a mistake. It should have no stars. The pasta was over cooked - no spices in anything - a bunch of elderly folks who probably can't chew seem to be the bunch frequenting this joint. And I really wanted to like it - had been asking my wife for months to try it - but will NEVER go back again. The worst Italian food I have ever had.

The food here is excellent. The location is terrible - strip mall, awkward to get into the parking lot, but oh, it is really worth it go. The food is fresh and flavorful. I particularly enjoy the chicken florentina and my kids love it too, which says a lot as they are 6 & 9.

The food was ok nothing too exciting, and the service was nothing that I care to remember. Very slow and not so friendly. Overall I wouldn't drive out there just for this restaurant.
I often enjoyed the lunch at Baronessa when I worked nearby about 7 years ago, but until last night I had no suspicion how wonderful dinner would be here. Service was friendly, helpful, and prompt. Our appetizer of marinated roasted sweet red pepper with anchovy and olives was enough for the three of us, particularly with the adequate salads that were included with our dinners. We all shared tastes of our dishes with one another. I hadn't had Vitello alla Parmigiano (Veal Parmagianna) in a long time, and as I was enjoying my large dish with that included linquini, I wondered why. Very nice, and Crystal's dish was also good, but what stood out for all of us was the cannelloni that Lynne ordered. I had absolutely no idea how good cannelloni could be, as I've avoided them for years. Tubes of pasta with ricotta and a sauce just didn't turn me on, but Lynne knew that cannelloni are also made like crepes, i.e. a thin, soft, pancake-like wrapper around what, in this case, was a very nice herbed spinach-ricotta filling. They were baked in a cream sauce that I would also usually avoid, as they're usually too rich and too bland for me, but the whole thing was delicious. We ate about half of our dishes, which worked out great, as we had room for Baronessa's excellent espresso and to share a cannoli. Hand-filled, it was light enough that we could have shared two or three. I tried to get Lynne to take her leftover cannelloni home, but I didn't try too hard. We'll be back and try some seafood next time.

It was pretty decent! And when I say this I mean it was homemade simple italian food nothing too fancy but nothing like the chains here that pose as italian restaurants! Italian food can go very wrong ! This place is def better than amalfi! Which is average beyond belief (canoli is exceptional there) this place I would say is in between il pizzico and biscotti(when the place once upon time was good and now it's shut) this place def won't shut down! Good clean food!

I'm giving this place 4 stars with a caveat...if you don't live in Rockville, don't make a special trip out to eat here. That being said, based on the Italian in the area, it's quite good. It was quiet on a Friday night, only about 4 tables seated. Which is great if you like to actually have a conversation with your date and have no wait. The bread was fresh baked and quite tasty, crusty on the outside and super soft on the inside. I asked the waitress how the risotto was, and my husband told her that ever since I went to Italy, no risotto has been good enough. Despite that warning she said theirs was good... And it was above average, but not fantastic. I won't be ordering it again, but I did eat most of it. It was too oily, and cheesy, and the artichokes was weird. I picked those all out. My husband got the fetticine with scallops and calamari marinara sauce. His was DELICIOUS. I don't think the noodles were homemade but the dish was very fresh, the scallops perfectly tender. Tasted light and fresh, noodles were al dente. I would definitely order this dish again. They do not have spagetti and meatballs lol my husband was disappointed. Total meal with a diet coke was $55 with tax and tip. Great neighborhood joint. Definitely worth going to if you like in the Rockville area.

I have been planning on trying this place for awhile since it is close to work and on the way home and have to say its the best italian food I have had in a long time! I had the vitello romana and it was nice and juicy not dry and the homemade linguini is to die for! I usually have a to go box but couldn't stop and finished my plate! My friend had the trout special and that was good too. I beg to differ with the person who says il pizzico is better because this place is much better! We will be back for sure!

This is a hidden jewel of Italian cuisine. The early bird specials are under $20 and include, drink, soup/salad, entree and dessert. The tilapia is not pre frozen. The parmesan entrees are light and tasty. The desserts are fantastic and home made. The chocolate mousse is a true mousse and not simply fluffed chocolate pudding. You can tell that melted chocolated has been blended with egg whites and cream. Another great dessert is called somthing like Grandmother's cake. It's a melt in your mouth shortcake with lemon on the top. And the tiramisu -- I can't think of a better one I've had. Portions not on the early bird are huge and will give you enough leftovers for a 2nd delicious meal at home.

Italian food done by people who don't know Italian food. Salad dressings that taste bottled, bread that tastes like brown and serve. The cioppino wasn't cioppino, it was seafood linguine, inexcusable. The frozen seafood was Trader Joe's quality, the mussels and clams were not particularly fresh. The sauce was either out of a can or made with low quality tomatoes. The gnocchi were good but probably out of a package. There was no music so when the woman at the next table started talking about medical topics and fecal matter, we could hear every word. Don't waste your money, these other reviews must be by relatives.

Three and a half Yelps, rounded up. Baronessa is the type of restaurant which every big city should have, but is in this case very hard to find; MoCo is not a hotbed of Italian cooking, though between this and Biscotti, things are looking up. Baronessa is what I like to call Italian sloppy chic. (Sloppy Italian to me = rustic to others.) Cheap bag-o-salad added onto your meal ($2 I think)? Check. Parmagna, Picatta, Pizzaola, Alla Vodka, nothing unrecognizable to the Italian eater? Check. Portion sizes enough to get you through Sunday? Check. Basically, it's a better version of Mamma Lucia, with good ingredients. Note: don't bother with reservations, since I've never seen it busy. It's no Il Pizzico (the best restaurant in MoCo, for my $), and it's no Biscotti, but Baronessa won't let you down.

Stopped in last night to get out of the cold. The food as usual was outstanding. The service was also great. The one thing really nice about Baronessa is that the specials change all the time and if you don't see something on the menu, just ask, they will make it for you.

We needed to grab some quick takeout on our way to the field house. The owner helped us pick a few things with a confident enthusiasm. When packing up our food she made sure we had everything we needed and wished our daughter well in her tournament. It felt good to have someone care for a change. The food was simple and well seasoned. The pasta cooked perfectly too. I had linguini with clams and they were plentiful and not overcooked. I highly recommend this place.

It's been a while since I have been here but I remember being offered tons of food for lunch at a great price. Their website now mentions a lunch special that includes a main dish (manicotti, lasagna, chicken marsala, putanesca, panini etc) and a soda for $9.00. But last time I was there, we had wine, bread, salad and an entree for an unbelievable (similar) price. I am not sure if it's changed but I remember thinking I should tell some people about the amazing deal, so that's what I'm doing. Check it out if you are in the Rockvile area. The restaurant is very non-descript and located in a strip mall near the industrial sites.

Came here last week for a celebratory dinner and couldn't have been more pleased with the experience! We had a party of 8 with a reservation. We were seated to a nice big table right when we arrived. The waitress was really friendly and fast with the bread and drinks. They have a nice selection of meat, seafood and vegetarian options on the menu. I ordered the Eggplant Parmigiana with the vegetable medley instead of pasta. It also came with your choice of a garden or Caesar salad. You really get a lot of food for your $ here. Everything I had was exceptionally delicious! Other people ordered chicken parmigiana, gnocchi, lasagna, salmon and shrimp. Everything looked fantastic! They have a really nice dessert menu too, the tiramisu and apple pie with ice cream looked amazing. Prices are pretty decent for the fabulous quality of food and drinks. The location is really convenient to Rockville and Olney and there is lots of free parking. It's always nice to try a family owned place over the typical chain restaurants.

Had a great meal here during a recent visit. Our group had a bit of everything on the menu - lasagna, cannelloni, chicken marsala, shrimp pasta, pizza - and everyone loved what they ordered. Pretty extensive menu plus a special of the day has all the familiar dishes plus some surprises, which I'll have to try on my next visit. The owner greets you at the door or comes to your table, and cooks your meal. Prices were reasonable, food is delicious, no waiting for a table. And like another reviewer said, the bread is homemade and incredibly good. No complaints, can't recommend it enough.

This place is great as is many that appear in tiny strip malls right next to Joe's Record Paradise for you collectors of the vinyl......this one along very industrial Gude Dr. at South Lawn. Went early like 5:30 to miss the traffic on way home.....a couple of tables and very clean and nice Italian paintings line the walls. Server Tomas quick on his feet water here and drinks there...... Went with the very yummy Chicken Parmisiano $16.95 includes great house salad and warm fresh bread. The chicken was large 10 oz. patty nicely breaded with nice handcut steamed veggies carrots squash and red peppers on the side. I should have taken a pic...... This is very quiet and serene good date place......

This was an unbelievable find. Located in a little strip mall in the industrial part of Rockville, I would have never guessed we'd some of the best Italian I've had in a long time. We placed a to go order because we were headed to a field hockey tournament, but I look forward to going back for a sit down meal. The owner greeted us and made recommendations. I had the gnocchi with a half cream/ half marinara sauce. It was to die for. Pat had the linguine with clams which he said was delicious. I recommend the ceasar salad too. Cute little restaurant, great service and delicious food...what more can you ask for. Oh yeah it was very reasonably priced.

Good Italian food, lunch specials are $9 and comes with a drink so it's a pretty good deal. I ordered the chicken marsala and it was pretty good. Service was great. I will come back again.

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

Friday evening dinner with the family; very disappointing. Decent service but the food was mediocre at best, considering the price. Sautéed calamari appetizer tasted like it's been sitting in tomato sauce all night. Kids pizza looked like it was microwaved out of the freezer. There was penne pasta galore, no creativity. Highly doubt any of the pasta was home made. My penne with prosciutto was simply penne pasta out of the box with red vodka sauce with no taste of prosciutto. This restaurant deserves to lose the $$ rating with 5 star quality for $$$ with 2 stars.
