The lunch buffet with soda comes out to under $10. You get never ending salad, pasta, soup and of course all kinds of Armands pizza. The place is always clean and the staff super friendly.

The "pizza" coming out of this joint can be described in one word... "YUCK!" This is *not* Chicago pizza and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. The pizza is completely tasteless, and quite frankly I would even prefer Dominos, Papa John's and Pizza Hut over this stuff (and that is saying something as I would rate all of those as one star places). Salads and other items are not bad, but they do not come close to making up for the lack of taste the main product offers. Avoid this place like the plague!

Nice and speedy staff. Pretty good pizza by the slice

I grew up on Armands and just paid them a visit on a recent trip back. I have never had anything that comes close on either coast.

Some of the best pizza I've had in the Rockville area. The service is good, and the food is better. I like the fact they have beer, of course it's a little pricey, but it's nice to have the option. The deep dish is my personal favorite, plenty of toppings and enough cheese to make a Greenbay fan smile. The one Philly sub I had there was less than good, but it's called Armand's Pizza, not Armand's Phillies. So stick with the pizza, and I'm sure you'll go back.

Yum! They have a great buffet for lunch, I think it's only about $8. I agree with Jason B. - more than two slices = food coma. I always overdo it and try to eat 2 pieces of pizza plus whatever pasta dishes they have and/or soup... and then I'm worthless for the rest of my work day! They usually have 2-3 different kinds of pizza out at the buffet. I am also told they have a good lunch deal of 1 slice, a caesar salad and a drink for $5 something. One time when I ordered a whole pie for take-out, they gave me a slice to snack on while I waited. Nice! :) They also have subs and some appetizers, which I haven't tried, but may be good!

I ordered the mozzerella sticks (six sticks) and the small (10 inch) Herb and Cheese white pizza. The total came to about $16. The pizza was ok, not terrible, but I've definitely had much better. I would rather go to Mamma Lucia's in the shopping just south on Rockville Pike. The mozzerella sticks weren't bad either, but again, nothing to write home about. Overall, just a so-so place. I might be persuaded to go back to try something else, but it's doubtful.

This specific location is okay...every time I go, the take out pizza is ALWAYS OLD AND COLD... Deep dish pizza taste chewy sometimes .... I work in the area so I don't have time to wait for a fresh slice.. It's just awful ... The cookies however ... Are amazing ... But they raise the price of then a few times... Not very nice..

Armand's is satisfying, if not exceptional, deep-dish pizza (not really Chicago style, I don't think). This place has a small dining area and does a lunch buffet. Not dirt cheap, but you'll be full. It's near the Metro and has ample parking. Overall, not a destination in itself, but a decent place to eat if you're in the neighborhood.

  • Niket R.

YUCK. I made the mistake of eating here TWICE. The first time I ordered a thin-crust slice and a thick crust slice and didn't enjoy either one. The next time, I opted for the over-priced buffet and didn't enjoy that either. You'll be much better off heading across the Pike to Cici's for much better pizza (though not great) and much more variety. The cookies displayed on the counter were not included in the buffet! I rest my case!

Deep Dish pizza is the Best

This place is another awful pizza joint in Rockville. It has that college cafeteria feeling but kindda depressive, sort of Pizza Hut like. The pizza is not good and it is that type of mass market, no frills, no taste pizza. If you see pizza just as another type of crappy fast food, this is the place for you. If you have higher expectations don't even pass in front of this place.

  • Jessica L.

Big improvement from last time. Service was excellent. Deep dish was delish. On Mondays any size one topping pizza dine in or carry out is 9.99$. Got a large deep dish with banana peppers and it was so good! Happy to report that the seats have all been redone. No more duct tape. Restrooms are super clean. Minus one star because the girl with the pony tail just stared at us when we walked in. No "hello" or "take a seat anywhere". Only after I asked where we should sit did she say a word. Come on- how hard is it to greet your customers? Going to try the lunch buffet soon as we got there too late today.

This place feels like a Pizzeria, looks like a Pizzeria, and tastes like a Pizzeria. They have good food at a reasonable price. You really cant complain. I would have given them 5 stars but their delivery is wonky. Sometimes they say they deliver and sometimes they say they dont. Pizza exceeded my expectations, the pasta is pretty darn good. They have cheap excellent sides and apps....except for the fries...they are often soggy. I have ordered from here twice and have yet to be disappointed. If you are looking for no frills good quality food that is cheap, then this is your place.

Great place. We did the buffet and the food was excellent. One tv was on sports and the other news which I find to be perfect. The music station was also great. The service was superb.

Lunch buffet is worth it. Might have to butter the sides of your gut just to slide out of the front door afterwards.

  • Max S.

Service has always been excellent. Really delicious deep-dish, Chicago-style pizza. Better than Uno's, for example, in my opinion. Not terribly competitively priced but worth it.

The Pizza is delicious and the Buffet is an excellent value and always very tasty. I highly recommend this Armand's to anyone I know

Best Pizza!!! They have a really great lunch buffet soup, salad, pasta, and of course pizza $7.94(11am-2pm Monday-Sunday ) and dinner ( 5:30pm-9pmFriday &Saturday ). If you haven't been by you are definently missing out!!

I was amazed to find that even a place like Armand's now has gluten-free pizza. The restaurant itself leaves quite a bit to be desired - I know of Chipotles that have more ambiance than this place. The employees were all dressed like high school kids hanging out, so it was difficult to even tell who was working here, and that contributed to the very casual /carelss feeling to the restaurant. But the pizza was pretty darn good (albeit too cheesy for me), and $11 for a gluten-free pizza with two toppings is a deal. So, for a quick and relatively inexpensive meal, this is not a bad place to go.

  • Chuck S.

The pizza is pretty good, and it's a great place to grab a quick slice when you are on the go. They usually have deep dish pepperoni pizza and regular cheese pizza ready at all times. They also have a hawaiian pizza, which is pretty good. Compared to the other pizza offerings in the area (i.e., national chains like Domino's, Papa John's, and Pizza Hut), I would highly recommend going to Armand's for delivery too.

    (4)
  • Deepak B.

Really like this place. It has a college cafeteria feel, so set your expectations. Not expensive, but I like the food and quality. Chicago pizza...no.

    (4)
  • Kim A.

The lunch buffet is actually a pretty good deal. For about $8 you get as much pizza, salad, pasta, soup and breadsticks as you like. However, it can be pretty hit or miss with freshness, variety of toppings, and types of crust available. But if you're lucky, there's endless hot pizza to enjoy. I'm sure if there's not much out, there's more coming, but it all depends how long of a lunch you have. The food is really good, and for just a few dollars more you get WAY better quality than you would at somewhere like Cici's, but the idea is the same. There's no dessert at the buffet (there is some fruit in the salad bar), but the cookies they sell are amazing. The chocolate chip cookies always chewy and full of melty chocolate. The pizza to-go is also a good option, if you don't want that much food. If you're getting 2 or more pieces though, you might as well opt for the buffet. I haven't had their subs or garlic bread in years, but from what I remember they were great. The garlic bread was cheesy a little greasy, and just really good. Parking can be a little tricky, but I usually find something.

    (3)
  • Nick S.

Solid Chicago-style pan pizza. You can get a combo with two one-topping slices and a drink for less than $7 with tax, and you'll definitely walk away full. I wouldn't come to Armand's looking for true Chicago deep dish however; it's not even close to the likes of Giordano's or Lou Malnati's. Still, it's good.

    (4)
  • Ligia C.

Really amazing service and dip dish pizza! Totally recommend the chicken fajita and garlic bread!! The waitress was really nice and attentive.

    (5)
  • Jessica H.

Who doesn't love an all-you-can-eat pizza buffet, especially when kids are free on Tuesdays! The buffet is small but usually includes about 5 different types of pizza, pasta with alfredo sauce and marinara, and a salad bar. It's not the best pizza around, but it's definitely a million times better than cici's! The crust is the star of the pizza for me. I am a sucker for deep dish. We have been here about 5 times and I'm sure will be back many more times.

  • Lorena B.

Look, I've never been to Chicago and I must have been 15 the last time I ate a cheesesteak in Philly. Armand's is all I have! The cheesesteak is as good as I remember. It's almost greaseless, the roll is toasted, and the sub is just the right size. Can't beat it with a cherry Coke! I haven't eaten their pizza in a long time but the Original Chicago Combo was always my favorite fully loaded pizza of any restaurant. Trust, if I lived closer I'd be eating it a lot more. Plus, if you pick up your pizza you get an extra slice free for your ride home, hollaaaaa!

I 've Never Been Here Before, But Today I Decided To Give It A Try, And Let Me Tell You That The Place It's Clean And Nice, The Girl At The Register I Think Her Name Is Ashley, She Was So Nice And Friendly, She Answered All My Questions About The Menu, The Food Was Excellent I Ordered I Cheese Thin Crust Pizza And Was Tastefully, I Will Definitely Come Back Here

  • Eric W.

Meh. Didn't come in here with high expectations but the kid was yelling for pizza so I gave it a shot. Pizza by the slice made it easy and quick. The 2 year old got instant gratification. Pizza was average but not unexpected. My rating comes merely for lack of customer service. As being my first time here, I was not sure if I was supposed to order first, sit down first, is there a waiter? I ended up ordering at the counter and the guy gave me my food. Went to sit down and realized that table service was there. I guess since I ordered at the counter that meant I would get zero eye contact and no interaction at all. No napkins, nothing. If the guy would have just stopped to check on me even once, I would have even left him a tip!

  • Roy S.

I rather like this place. Special Italian sub is really good with a little extra vinegar and hot peppers. The steak and cheese is OK. Not loaded with meat or cheese but it is a decent size. I prefer their thin crust pizza over the deep dish. Just a personal choice, don't need that much bread. Everything I've had here is pretty good. Not amazing, but worth a trip. Sometimes there is a slightly longer wait then normal, but since they are making everything instead of just heating it up ill wait a few extra minutes.

    (3)
  • Fenicia B.

The pizza and service were GREAT! Parking was cool too. I will definitely visit this location again.

  • Andrew K.

Tried the lunch buffet here for $7.95 which comes with pizza, salad and pasta. There were several deep dish pizza choices include cheese, sausage and pepperoni and while the deep dish was a little better than the regular pizza, it was really greasy and the pizza dough didn't taste too good. I usually get my money's worth but I don't think I even ate $8 worth of pizza here. The salad was pretty standard and the pasta wasn't worth eating. I'm not sure I would come back here again.

  • Alexandra C.

Eh, it's okay. We got delivery at our hotel, and it took awhile; it was delivered to us in about an hour. The pizza was pretty good, but not amazing. For having taken an hour, it didn't taste very fresh, but maybe it would have tasted better if we'd had it fresh out of the oven in the restaurant. I also ordered a couple of "fresh baked cookies"- don't do that, they taste like chemicals.

    (3)
  • Kathy B.

Food wise, this place is not bad. It's pretty standard. It didn't stand out to me as a particularly mind-blowing pizza, but it was good and they had other good items on the menu as well. I got a buffalo chicken sandwich and my boyfriend tried the buffet option. The chicken sandwich was good. Quite spicy! I enjoyed their Alfredo. It was oily but tasty. It's a nice, quiet place, at least when I went. (a Friday evening). Service is good. A nice low key place when you don't feel like going to a loud place or a place where you have to get dressed up.

It's a little known (and probably untrue) fact that Rockville is the pizza capital of Maryland. One might think that would be College Park (with its roving bands of ravenous UMD students) or even Baltimore. But, no, it's Rockville that has one pizza place per person. Or so it seems. So when October's National Pizza Month "holiday" beckoned, I did what any rational person would do when presented with such choices. I cowered and ate at the pie joint closest to my apartment. But it's a fine choice for any pizza lover. The false name aside, this is not Chicago-style pizza since the cheese is on top and not baked in under the toppings, Armand's will satisfy even the most pizza snobbish person. As far as deep dish goes, the rich, heartburn inducing tomato sauce and thick layer of cheese definitely hearkened me back to Rahm Emanuel's fiefdom instead of Martin O'Malley's. A lot of places make deep dish, of course. But what separates Armand's out is their daily specials. For example, hungry NFL lovers can buy any size pizza for $9.99 on Mondays to watch Monday Night Football with (and they show the game in store on their multiple television). The large I got on October 1st was enough to last me, and fill me up, for dinner and the next day's lunch. About the only thing that bothered me was that, despite not being Chicago-style pizza, it seemed to take the requisite (and health necessitated) 45 minutes to make. And the waitstaff seemed rather absent. While I know pizza's a social activity, it's definitely not a place to go for a quick pie. But, hey, there are hundreds (or thereabout) of those in Rockville.

its amazing pizza, i have never been a fan of deep dish pizza but this was delicious for a local pizzeria! i had the chicago style deep dish pizza and it was on point. It is on the smaller side but the price is good as well plus they don't skimp on toppings like other places! Plus the cookies were amazing! the only the thing is delivery too a while but it was worth the wait.

  • Jae P.

Do yourself a favor, and get some Digiorno's, Ellio's, or other frozen pizza. It will taste so much better than Armand's bland excuse of a pizza. I find it surprising that a sign in the restaurant states that the business has existed since 1975. People have still not figured out by now that this isn't pizza? Only during a zombie apocalypse will I consider putting Armand's pizza into my body for sustenance.

Still delicious nearly 4 years later. And it was delicious also 15 years ago. Yum! Nothing beats it within a hundred miles! I am always anxious to eat their Pizza so I go in and pick it up! So I am not reviewing their delivery service, but when I've used it in the past it has been fine. But who wants to wait, go there, pick it up and get a free slice!

Awesome deep dish pizza. Love the sauce. Ordered carry out & order was hot and ready when I picked up at service friendly. Have had the buffet before - good stuff :)

Really wanted to give this location a 2 stars but...... Went on consecutive Mondays for the $10.00 pizza deal. Ordered a large with BBQ chicken topping. When I looked at the pizza before leaving, I was really shocked. The toppings only covered 2/3 of the pizza and the rest was crust. I thought about waiting around to complain to management but I was in a hurry to get back home. Two weeks later, I ordered the same thing and got the same result. This time, I asked to see the manager and told him that the pizza was unacceptable. They were clearly skimping on toppings to save money. Couldn't believe the manager looked me dead in my face and said he thought it was a "beautiful pizza". I have honestly never seen a pizza with that much crust around the edges. Needless to say, I will not be ordering any more pizzas from this place. I am really missing the old Tinleytown location were I went for years and never had a bad pie. I will say though that the individual slices have been consistent for the most part. But, if you want a full pizza with toppings only on the center and you really, really like crust then go ahead and risk ordering from here.

  • Sara A.

I came here on Saturday and the BBQ Chicken pizza is to die for! I strongly recommend you try the thin crust, although the deep dish is good too. The dinner buffet is a great option, only $9.99!! Although, the drinks are not included, but refills are free. The staff was super nice also.

How the h*ll does this place have a three star average? Customer service-crap "Deep Dish"? yeah, right. Crap. I star for each, resulting in a 2 star rating. Crap Nuff said.

Armands is one of the reasons I am glad to be living back in this area. I love their deep dish pizza, especially the BBQ Chicken Pizza. The Caesar Salad is always a great thing, with their homemade croutons. Ten plus years and I am still a big fan.

    (4)
  • Juls K.

Best deep dish pizza in town! They have a few locations, i used to be a customer of their gaithersburg location and after we moved i am glad there is one in rockville. Give it a try.

  • William Q.

The service is pretty good all the workers were very polite , but I did not like the food. I went for the $7.50 lunch buffet and you definitely get full after one plate if you get more than two deep dish pizza slices. The pizza was okay but I probably will not be returning I would rather buy a medium pizza elsewhere it will taste a lot better and cost about the same. The Alfredo pasta was probably my favorite thing at the buffet but I couldn't eat much of it after the pizza, and my girlfriend became nauseous after eating red penne pasta.

    (2)
  • AJ H.

Armands' regular slice of pizza is almost the equivalent to a deep dish so 2 slices will most likely fill up the average person. For those of use with bigger appetites will go for 3 and can enjoy the big bread. The sauce has a kind of off taste though, so you'll probably stop at 2 slices because you're tired of the taste before you get full. Pizza scores about a 6 out of 10 in the grease department. And a 4 in taste. The steak and cheese sub is averagely priced and is actually pretty good for those who want one. But cheese steak enthusiasts will realize it can get you by if you're needing one. We've had better. Final judgement: I'd recommend Armand's if you're truly hungry or if it's free.

  • Jessi K.

I hate to sound like a Pizza snob, but this not "Chicago Style Pizza" it's just deep dish. I order from here hoping to get my Chicago Pizza fix... but it was just deep dish pizza and no where near close to authentic Chicago style pizza. For a Pizza place it 's not bad, but for people that wish to have something close to Chicago Style. It's close... but no dice.

    (2)
  • J Adrian M.

Great pizza bad management of the pizza Buffett constantly out of meat pizza. Then you have to wait 10 minutes for them to make it or eat plain cheese.

  • Lisa J.

Experienced Armand's when my office ordered pizza for lunch. Hands down the best pizza I've ever had! The rest of the office agreed. The deep dish pizza was seriously to-die-for. So flavorful, the dough was perfection. Wish they had an Armand's in Virginia!

  • Wendy C.

Yelp really should separate food and service into 2 groups.. I'd give them a 3 for the pizza, and 1 for service, averaging that out to be a 2. Food: The pizza was hot and steaming when we got it, and so I'm content with the food. Service: I don't know if it was because they were focused primarily on the buffet crowd or they just don't really care, but I haven't been to a restaurant where the service was that lacking in a while. When we walked in, the servers didn't seem enthusiastic at all, and we didn't know where we were supposed to sit or do for a while, until we caught one of the employee's attention. Even after we sat down, it just seemed like none of the employees were happy. For me personally, I'd only come back if I ordered delivery or carry-out. The service just isn't worth it.

  • Alison W.

Just ordered pizza from Armand's about an hour an a half ago. I was told 45 min for delivery. I ordered 2 small pizzas. One deep dish and one thin. The delivery showed up 30 min late, and sadly was quite cold. The pizza might have been good.... Hard to tell now. It is cold and kinda soggy, but has good flavor. The deep dish is very traditional, and probably really good when hot. The thin is more of a traditional hand tossed, and seems like it was pretty good when hot. Sigh. 2 small pizzas=$30, which is way too much if you are going to send me something this cold. May try again, but will not do delivery.

Love Armand's Pizza but this place is very hit or miss and many of the other reviews are pretty spot on about the customer service. Best deep dish.

DO NOT eat here! My husband and I came last Sunday afternoon and it was awful. We decided to have an early dinner so we ordered off the menu. Big mistake! The service is terrible. We waited at least 45 minutes for our food and it wasn't busy. Most people had gotten the buffet. I noticed that they were not keeping the buffet stocked and at once point they took everything off it. I thought they were getting ready to close. I had to ask for more iced tea twice. The ladies room was unbelievably dirty. The wastebasket was overflowing with used paper towels. It makes me wonder if the staff washes their hands after using the facilities. I don't know who's job it is to clean it, but they need to keep an eye on it. This is no place I want to go to ever again. The service is awful and the food mediocre.

4.5 Stars I originally went to Matchbox at 2:30 today (Monday) to give it a try- but after they told me it was a 30 minute wait (are you serious??) and I was starving- I decided to go try Armand's across the street. Lo and Behold- it was $9.99 any size pizza, and number of toppings Monday!! Shut up. So, I got an extra large thin crust pizza with 6 different toppings, (spicy italian sausage, pineapple, red onions, mushrooms, jalapeno peppers, tomato) and my husband got another extra large thin crust Chicago Combo pizza. They were great- the crust was perfectly crispy, and NOT greasy at ALL. The toppings were fresh and not overcooked. We each ate half our pizzas and now we still have a whole pizza left for tomorrow! Total cost $20. You can't beat that with a mozzarella stick. And we found out they deliver- score! Bonus points to the waitress (probably the owner) who was gracious when I asked her about the "competition" next door. She didn't bash them or say anything negative about them when given the opportunity. I like that kind of attitude. A++ to her for that.

This spot consistently makes a solid deep-dish pizza. No better deep dish in the metropolitan area. As for the heartburn, it's pizza, you better get heartburn or you are not truly enjoying the pie. Buffet is great too. Don't have the thin crust though.

  • Pam N.

I normally get delivery or carry out, but I have ALWAYS loved Armand's. It's best to eat the pizza fresh in the restaurant while it's hot and crispy. No comparison to any chain pizza restaurant. I would stick with the pizza over the buffet or a lot of the standard menu items.

    (5)
  • Nick C.

Best deep dish pizza in the area. The restaurant is plain and not very big on atmosphere but best deep dish pizza. Service is good and did I mention it's the best deep dish pizza on Rockville pike.

Average pizza and terrible service. Period. Not a fan.

  • Cj H.

The lack of good Chicago style pizza in the DC area is staggering, but even though Armand's is the only option in Rockville for deep dish, they don't often disappoint. I've been eating Armand's pizza ever since they were just a hole in the wall back in the mid 1990's. The problem with Armand's lies in two areas. First, the service is less than satisfactory. The cashier's and waiter's never seem too pleasant, and the kitchen is inconsistent. Most of the time, the pizza is perfect, but every once in a while, something might get a little overcooked. Second, outside of the pizza, everything else on the menu is clearly not made in house. It's frozen and re-cooked. So I'd stick to the pizza, although sometimes their choco-chip cookies hit the spot.

  • Abegail A.

I've never physically eaten here, but when we order pizza at work, this is the go to place. I have to admit, this place isn't actually bad. They have a variety of pizzas (traditional or deep dish, I prefer traditional here), wangs, salads, subs, pastas, and appeteasers. I've tried a slice of their (in order of tastiness and likeability) 1. pepperoni, 2. cheese 3. meatzza (pepperoni, sausage, ground beef & Canadian ham), and 4. veggie (mushrooms, green peppers & onions). I felt the meatzza and veggie pizzas had too many toppings and I couldn't really enjoy it. Their deep dish had too much dough, but their traditional pizzas were just right. The ingredients tasted fresh and the crust on the traditional pizza was tasty (definitely don't want to throw this part away, even if you're not a crust lover). If you're in/work around the area, stop by Armand's for some pizza. BUT, if you have some time to head down to Rockville Town Center, grab pizza (and wangs) at Giuseppe's instead!

Armand's deep dish pizza is the best. It's a classic. And the quality of it has never changed over the past almost 20 years I've had it.

  • Cat P.

I never knew I was a deep dish kinda girl until I had Armand's. Fireworks exploded after my first bite! The thick, buttery, flaky crust. The tangy yet complex pizza sauce. Onions always make everything better too, and these are plentiful toppings here. I'd like to note that this review is for the pizza itself, not the dining experience. (I've only had delivery.) I'm not sure how this compares to Uno's, but on a scale of 1-10, I'd give this a solid 10.

    (5)
  • Lenny S.

Average subs nothing amazing. But fast delivery and pretty cheap. Better then nothing but only if you are to lazy to get up to go to a real sandwich shop. I would suggest going to bagel city instead

  • Kayla F.

I live in the adjoining apartment complex, so I go here a couple times a month out of convenience. Personally, I don't care for their pizza. The sauce tastes like ragu, and the crust always seems a little burnt. Some of the staff is super friendly, but others will stare at you from the kitchen when you walk in, waiting for someone else to take your order. I will say their salads are pretty good, but a little overpriced.

I been eating their deep dish since their original location over 20 years ago at Loehmann's Plaza. The Chicagos Original large deep dish + episode of Pizza Paradise = slice of heaven!

I've only gotten pizza here a couple times, but I've had decent experiences. One time the green peppers were well cooked, but the other time they were a little overcooked and not as enjoyable. The pizza sauce is chunky, so expect large pieces of tomatos throughout. The good thing is that the pizza has so far not been exceedingly greasy or dried out, so the convenience will keep my coming back.

It's been many years since I've been here, thought I'll give them another try. Wow. I think it will be many more years till I'll go back again. We came here to try out their lunch buffet. Walk in and the person behind the counter told us to go ahead and seat our self, as we walk around looking for a table, we noticed quite a few tables were not cleaned off, and the table we settled in felt sticky. Went up to the buffet table and notice the salad bar lettuce was little bid on the brown side, there were little sides offered, and the salad dressing was a guessing game because they were not labeled. Guess their pasta and marinara sauce were not a customer favorite either. They've been sitting around way too long. The only good thing is their pizza, which is what you come here for luckily. Their signature deep dish is excellent, and the thin crust was just as good. Maybe carry out would be a good option so you don't have to deal with the service or setting.

Good deals. Pizza is okay (not the best but not the worst). My favorite is the salsa jalapeño. I love their salsa jalapeño pizza. I get pizza here because their Monday night deal is good ($10 for any size pizza with as many toppings as you like plus a free slice and/or drink). They have been inconsistent lately though and their other pizzas are not that great. If you are looking for great pizza go elsewhere otherwise Armand's can be okay.

I eat the lunch buffet here about once or twice a month and have never had any complaints. They are constantly bringing out fresh pizzas of all sorts from deep dish to thin. The price is only $7.50 for the buffet and there is no waiting. They also have a salad bar and a couple other warm pasta dishes (spinach pasta, lasagne, etc.) included in the buffet. The restaurant is clean and the employees are pleasant. They also have various pizza specials every week if you want something for pick-up or delivery. A great place to go grab a quick lunch!!!

Thy have their days when the Chicago style pizza is really really good. Majority of the time is average. The buffet was one of my highlights ... But the concept is what in talkig about. Pizza in general will always taste best when fresh and hot. Most the time when I visit this place it doesn't seem fresh but it's hot. I wish this place was consistent but since it's not.. I only give it an average, but most def. There are days when I'd love to give it a 5. I do return to this place so that does say something at least.

So after reading a review from a fellow New Yorker I figured I'd give this place a try. I asked for a slice and wasn't fully paying attention to the girl behind the counter, but when I looked up she was wrapping it in aluminum foil and putting it in a PLASTIC bag. Now I know she asked me if I minded a bag, but I automatically assumed she would first put the slice on a plate, or at least put it in a small box, before putting it in the bag. Obviously I was wrong. Added to this, when I got home and took out my bent piece of 'pizza', not only was it cold, but the center wasn't cooked - and I'm not talking slightly undercooked, dough. I would give this place 0 stars if I could. Ew.

Ok, so I don't know what "Chicago pizza" is supposed to taste like but Armand's has hands-down best pizza in DMV area. I especially miss their old locations in Tenleytown. The pizza sauce has a sweetness to it and I dont' know what it is about the deep dish crust but I actually eat it, unlike other pizza where I rip it off and throw it away).

What is it with DC and pizza? As I understand it, this is considered one of the better alternatives in the area. They call this Chicago pizza? I'm from the Chicago area. This, my friends, is not Chicago pizza. This is Pizza Hut pan pizza, nothing more, nothing less. Well, actually, that's not true. It's less than Pizza Hut pan pizza. And I haven't been able to eat THAT since I got it for free in elementary school for reading books. The wings are awful. I will give them a huge plus (but not in the form of an extra star) for their ordering and delivery. I was able to order my food online and they delivered to me. I figured there was no way they'd deliver as far away as I am but I was wrong. OK, I'll give them a half star for that. You're welcome.

UPDATE 11/30/12 We no longer frequent Armands due to a variety of reasons - using more purchased foods rather than foods being made in house by hand, decaying family atmosphere and a massive decline in quality of service. Make your own pizza nights are gone too. I originally gave them a 5 stars but changed to a 2 start rating. I left it as a 2 start becuase their pizza rocks. This is a great place to stop with the family for a casual bite to eat. The service is fast and friendly, varied menu and family atmosphere. Tuesday nights the kids can make their own pizza and Friday nights are the buffet. Can't beat it!

Usually, I compare pizza with the top 3 chains - Domino's, Pizza Hut, & Papa Johns. If the pizza is at par or better than any of those 3, then I consider the pizza to be tasty. Unfortunately, Armand's did not pass my test. The sauce and the crust did not impress me. The pizza was edible, but it just wasn't worth the calories. I won't be back.

I've stayed away from Armand's for several years now due to an icky, greasy, see-through cheese deep dish pizza experience from the Gaithersburg Express location. But I was in the mood for some quick pizza one day, so here we go. It was a Saturday around 1 and therefore not very busy. The space is rather drab and not much to look at, but clean and open with booths and tables. Upon seating, we were informed of the lunch buffet where for $7.50 you get your choice of pizza(including the deep dish 'specialty' slices in the display case), salad, pasta and soup. Sweeeeeeet! So I suppose it's pretty much what you would think. The salad was fine with enough options, the pasta (spaghetti and chicken alfredo bow-tie pasta) was a little dried out from being in the buffet tray as was the pizza. They had a mix of regular crust and a veggie deep dish pizza at that time. They did have a variety with the regular crust being sausage, ham/pineapple, white w/ spinach and herbs and bbq chicken pizza. In the display case they had some pepperoni and deep dish cheese. I tried the deep dish veggie, white pizza and a pepperoni slice hot out of the oven. Obviously, this slice was superior to the others. I was happy I got to try it since this is probably more indicative of their pizza making skills and I thought it was really tasty. Their was a good snap to the cheese/crust and was enjoyable. I also thought that the white pizza was yummy with chunks of spinach and herbs despite it sitting out on the buffet for a while. The veggie deep dish wasn't so great and I probably wouldn't go for it again. Overall, my experience was better than expected and cheaper! You're not going to get 5-star quality pizza at chains like this, but I got what I wanted. Decent-at times good-pizza for a cheap price. I would go again for the lunch buffet on the weekend but probably not for a sit-down dinner kind of meal.

Reminds me of the pre-made pie crusts you get when you order a Pizza Hut pizza but with better toppings and more variety. Numerous places make a better pizza for equal or less money. Id only go here if someone else really wanted to go.
