Really good Blue Cheese burger, nice atmosphere, but we were there when it was pretty slow. Tough Parking when it gets busy (I've been to the CVS two doors down when it is busy). The fries were cold, but they were quick to bring hot fries when we asked. We will be back to give it another try.

We came here after opening wedding presents with our in-laws. Sure, I got beautiful pots and pans. But I wasn't ready to cook. So we went out for lunch. I'd always passed by this place, thinking I'd have to check it out one day. I'm so glad I did! I had a crabcake and it was delicious! Normally, I find that restaurants depend on the crab too much and don't season it, but this was different. Everything was perfect! I think husband had fish and chips. Either way, he seemed happy with his selection. The service was great and very attentive. The bar area is GORGEOUS! A big wooden bar with plenty of the classics. All in all, I'd say I'd definitely be back here the next time I'm visiting my in-laws in Potomac. Good food and service and a beautiful place to eat. You can't ask for much more.

Very un-friendly place. I don't think I want to come back again.

One wouldn't describe the Hunters Inn food, clientele, or venue as progressive or hip in any way, but the patrons are probably okay with that--they seem to be old Potomac folk that grew up together. It's located next to a gas station, the parking is tight, and the service can be hit or miss. There are very few healthy options on the menu, and if you are a vegetarian, you have only two or three items to choose from. My husband and son are not vegetarian, and they like the Crabcakes, and the Blue Cheese Burger. I get the Caesar Salad. All in all, I would only recommend Hunters Inn if you live in Potomac Village, and you don't feel like driving very far.

I stopped by this place hoping for a good meal with a relaxed atmosphere. On the plus side the atmosphere was fairly relaxed and seemed typical of what you would expect of Potomac MD. We sat next to a plastic surgeon. ;) Since the party was not really hungry we stuck to the salad and sandwich part of the menu. 2 guests ordered wraps which they both enjoyed, however, the fries that came on the plate were served at room temperature. The other guest ordered a southwest entree salad that came out with stale chips on top. The size of the salad was quite disappointing for a $20 entree salad and the other topping appeared to be store bought or canned. The bread that was served prior to the meal was okay quality, but was cut in wafer thin slices that made communion bread seem filling. The wine list was underwhelming. We tried a sauvignon blanc that tasted good, but was over priced for its quality. Overall the service was attentive, but the food quality was weak.

Located in the heart of Potomac on River Road, it's a quality restaurant, but also expensive. They have a private area for organizations or clubs to hold weekly meetings or events (reason for patronage). I remember being pleased with the above-average food, but I don't remember finding it exceptional or anything special. The ambiance and setting in the private area was comfortable and pleasant. $$1/2

Where to start? We had heard nice things about this restaurant. That was not our experience. We ordered an appetizer and main course, and when our main course showed up first, we asked what happened to our appetizer. The waiter said, "Oh, you still want that?" We eventually got our appetizer which was fried calamari, swimming in grease. Then when our main course showed up, we asked if it was the same dishes that he had brought out 20 minutes ago. The waiter said "you mean, you'd like fresh food?" When our "fresh" main course finally showed up, it was the most underwhelming meal we have ever eaten out at a restaurant. Huge disappointment. We will never go back.

This is a popular neighborhood restaurant. Next to a gas station and across the street from another one. No matter. We come here often and usually eat inside; the weather was great so we decided to eat on the patio. Three different people came out of the restaurant to smoke near our table and then went inside, carrying the whiff of cigarette smoke with them, I assume. I was surprised because I haven't seen this happen around here. So, the food is good, no complaints about the service either, but I recommend eating inside (the view is not that great anyway), after happy hour, until the non smoking laws apply to outdoor dining or the restaurant changes its policy.

My date and I had a shrimp cocktail, a burger, and 2 glasses of wine. Food was good but nothing special. Atmosphere was relaxing. I paid cash and the waiter kept the coin change (50 cents) and walked off without a smile or a thank you. In the end, this decreased his tip from 25% to 15%).

I had something that wasn't on the menu: Campylobacter. Look it up on the google machine. Maybe these inconsiderate meat handlers should focus more on not causing me a week of regret.

When you are an elementary school teacher lunch is usually a couple bites of a frozen meal or a sandwich eaten at your desk grading papers. Today, I was lucky enough to attend a meeting where the teachers ordered from Hunters Inn. I ordered a turkey, cheese, and bacon sandwich served on 7 grain bread. What a treat ! The bread was fresh and delicious. The turkey was tender and juicy. The bacon crisp and flavorful. I ordered onion rings instead of fries and they were just okay. I like my onion rings thick and crunchy, but these were more like onion straws. Some of the other teachers ordered salads. The salads were huge and packed with grilled chicken or chicken salad. Everyone was silent, we were too busy eating to talk. One person ordered a pasta dish with olive oil and tomatoes. It looked very good. Keep in mind that our orders were placed early in the morning and they got every meal done correctly. All of our groups members were delighted. So eat in or order out, Hunters Inn did a great job.

The service at Hunter's Inn was really good. The waiters were really friendly and cordial. They were quick to strike up conversation with us and keep it going as well. They were always around as well, asking if we needed anything and it was not just one person that asked, multiple waiters were always around our table. We had the chicken marsala with pasta and fries. It was pretty good and food was very fresh. The scene was not very diverse though, with everyone there (and I mean everyone) being white except for us. It felt kind of weird but I'm not from there so that might have been the norm. The courteous staff made everything feel homey though so not much to complain about. I'd go back if I were ever in the area again.

We had dinner there on a slow Sunday night. Our waitress was terrible. Not only was she rushing but also she was not trained. She actually handed the plates /orders to us/customers to put onto the table ourselves. Hunter Inn is a full service and pricy restaurant. It needs to train their staff better. The food is mediocre for the kind of high price it charges. Not a good dining experience.

A Potomac staple for a long, long ,long time. Great pub food and or dining food on the other side. I always have sat at or on the bar side. They have pretty good appetizers with some really good sliders. Get there early for happy hour as they fill up pretty fast.

I work in the area and it is my favorite lunch destination. Excellent lunch specials and regular menu. I had quinoa salad with greens and beets. It was delicious. My friend had the chili and said it was the best he had ever had. I look forward to more lunch specials/chef recommendations. Dana the waitress was friendly and helpful with food selections. I try to sit her section for the best information and service.

Good place overall. Bar area is fun to dine in - good local hangout. Food is good too. Service is good. No real complaints but not a standout either.
(3)Tyler J.
The hostess is just not a nice person, very poor attitude (acts like she doesn't care about anything) especially customers. Been there twice and both times she's had an attitude. A family friend of mine thinks the same. Food is ok. Overall it's meh

Definately a locals hang out, and I'm a sometimes local, so I try to appreciate it for what it is..food that is reminiscent of a country club grill. Strong drinks, immediately served, big portions, a good selection of bread, served with whipped butter...these form the better memories of my erstwhile country club experiences. Not very clubby myself, but my social orbs have mingled with these all my life, so I can make the call. Order classics here. The New York Strip Steak my carnivore beau ordered was grilled to perfect specifications, accompanied by a nice mushy baked potato with lightly steamed vegetables, butter and sour cream! Hunter's Inn specializes in the old standards, and does them respectfully. The portions by our California standards are huge, we hauled away a quartet of go boxes. Fried Calimari was healthy circular slices, not over fried with a good semi spicy dipping sauce. Caesar salad is a cc standard, so I ordered and wolfed one down. My Mom's Eggplant Parmesan could have fed four people, a mound of parmesan on a plate of pasta, all tasty. We got quick attentive, respectful service, but did make reservations. Prices edge a bit high, probably 20% over regular, but convenience in Potomac makes it a worthwhile destination for locals.

I have been going to Hunter's Inn since I was 19 years of age and I still love the place as much now as I did back then. I love the happy hour menu and have also gone here for special celebrations like birthdays and wedding showers. The bar is a cheerful area which has a steady crowd and the dining room is large yet homey. They also have a private dining area which is good for special dinners with family and friends. The patio is hoppin during the evenings when it is not too hot out. Today I had one of my favorites, the Cobb Salad with no bacon ( I don't do pork) with their delicious honey mustard dressing. The salad is fresh field greens with shredded egg, red onion cubes, blue cheese crumbles, mushrooms, avocado and diced tomato. I got mine with grilled chicken which was delish. I have tried about every thing on the menu here and have never ever had a bad meal. The bread basket served before meals includes fresh slices of raisin bread which has regular and golden raisins and although I do not fancy raisins normally, this bread is very yummy. I would give 5 stars if the wait staff paid just a little more attention to refills and less time congregating behind the wait staff station chit chatting, but the food is consistently good and fresh and I enjoy the nightly specials. A great neighborhood hangout or destination spot to get that kind of "Cheers" vibe at the bar or have a nice meal with family and friends with a menu that has such a selection that everyone is sure to be satisfied.

I think many others have covered this restaurant in better detail. For me, The Hunter's Inn is about the welcome feeling I get when I frequent this restaurant. The hostess is a quick study of regulars and her welcoming smile always feels appreciated. I, along with a League of Distinguished Gentlemen (I am very much the rookie of the group), routinely meet Saturday afternoons to discuss current world affairs in earnest. Our group is careful to make our room reservation a week in advance, though sometimes we find ourselves communing in the bar area at a table by the window (fair warning - there are some "locals" that will gladly attempt to invade your discussion if you are not careful...for some reason, many of the older patrons fancy themselves as characters from a Tom Clancy / Robert Ludlum novel). The half off burgers on Saturday never fail to satisfy. The fries are always crispy and the burgers are almost always cooked to the correct doneness. Truly, I've no real complaint - it is respectable pub fare (and for half off...come on). Service is pretty attentive without being pushy. Our round table discussions normally extend well into the afternoon but we are never hurried. All in all, The Hunter's Inn is about that familiar welcome feeling with an accompaniment of serviceable American fare. Lounge well, my friends!

Went here with a large group and we really liked it. The salmon was a hit and so was the steak. (my only "beef" was that the portion of the steak was too small) It was tender and juicy. Great flavors along with the carrots and mash. I wish the apple pie was warm and came with ice cream, but it was still nice. The chocolate cake was deemed way too sweet. Friendly staff and a great wine list. You will pay Potomac prices, so be aware!

If I had seen the reviews below beforehand, I would have not gone in here. But in the end, my experience was nice, and not the high-priced/crappy food situation depicted here. So I'm glad I went. This place is located in an unassuming building next to a gas station, so I was surprised that it was so nice on the inside. Nice ambiance with wine racks all around, and in the bar area there were people who looked like they were having a good time. Grilled calamari appetizer was enormous and delicious. I also had the bar pizza appetizer. At a fancy-looking place like this I would expect appetizer pizza to be really small, but mine was very large and absolutely incredible. The crust in particular was great and I had to take half of it home because I was stuffed! Our waitress was very nice and even put the leftover pizza in the restaurant fridge for a couple hours while we attended an event. She offered to do this since it was so hot outside, and I appreciated it. Stayed at my parents house that night and put the pizza in the fridge, excited to have some amazing leftovers for breakfast the next morning. Two hours later I walk in on mom devouring it. Oh well. She asked where I got it and said it was one of the best pizzas she has ever had in her life. So get the bar pizza, it is incredible, big and only $10.

Awesome food, awesome service, and you might catch a celebrity or two. Very relaxed atmosphere of a neighborhood place (especially if you sit in the bar area) but the quality of the wine list and what comes out of the kitchen is amazing. If you want a more intimate setting, you might want to choose the formal dining room. Great food that is worth the price.

The Hunter's Inn is a local neighborhood favorite. And while the neighborhood is upscale, the prices are reasonable, and the food is reliably good. We had a very good burger and an entree salad in the bar area today, which has a very comfortable feel. They also have a nice regular dining room if you want something more formal. I would add that their staff did a very nice job of serving brunch to a group of 50 women from my wife's church group this past year. The organizers got very positive feedback.

Friendly, inviting place, been there for dinner and lunch. Great cosmo from the bar, half price burgers on Saturday, great fries; one eve I had tasty linquine with clam sauce , on another I had yummy peppercorn sauced sliced beef tenderloin with mashed potatoes, and another time I had great broiled scallops, and perfect lamb chop from my girfriend's plate. Loved the shaved parmesan on the ceaser salad, strawberry shortcake infused with grand marnier, and it does feel like Cheers in there, even for someone who isnt a regular. Entrees from $16 to $30 was what I expected. No problem with service and the place was crowded when I was there.
(4)Erika T.
We love the Pub!! Now they have Happy Hour specials (in addition to their regular weekday specials) and these include $7 fabulous martinis!! It's a quiet pub, with anice vibe, great waitstaff and enough people to give it a pleasant hum, without being tooo crowded or loud. The clam/mussels for $5 were a hit. On their regular menu, I recommend the burger or the steak.. Having been here many times, sometimes with fussier friends about food, I really think Hunters has something for everyone.
(4)Ryan B.
Been here several times with the family. It's not outstanding, but still good. It's a little bit expensive for the type of food they serve, but I can't complain too much. Still tastes good.

Attended a catered party at Hunters Inn and I was impressed. Food was delivered promptly, and was hot and exceptionally delicious. The waiters quietly moved among us, efficiently anticipating our needs. The owners monitored the situation and even helped serve some items, while maintaining a festive atmosphere. Don't miss the desserts.....wow! This place will be a regular on our "exceptional restaurant" list.
(5)Petrod P.
Have tried their dinner menu a few times. Overpriced, mediocre food, and an unfriendly, middle aged hostess.
(2)Joanne K.
We love this restaurant. The service is great, and while we usually have dinner there, today we took family for lunch and is was just as good. The sou'wester n salad was perfect with cilantro dressing, great quesadillas and caprese.
(5)Christian D.
Very happy. Nice athmosphere. Good unpretentious cuisine. Reasonable prices.

For a $14 burger, and a $2.50 10 oz bottle of Coke (with no refills) I really would have expected SOMETHING to be good here. Lets begin with the food. I had the Hunter Burger. Hey this is their signature burger it even says on the menu 'Customer Favorite' in little bold lettering. I would therefore assume that it would be pretty good. Especially since it is $14. It comes with french fries and a pickle. The french fries were quite good, that nice kinda golden crunchy on the outside warm and soft on the inside. The pickle... was a little limp but hey it happens to a lot of guys. The burger (which I asked for medium) was charred. Not the whole thing mind you, on the average I would say that yes it was medium. But the left side was over well done, and the right side was about a medium to medium rare. So the first bites I had were pretty good. Then I got to the other end and no amount of ketchup or their largely tasteless 'hunter's sauce' could help it not taste like a charred brisket. Ok, now $2.50 for a 10 ounce bottle of soda? Soda means you bring me refills all night. I order it in order to get MORE than I would for the beer. Seriously, in order to make up a pint of soda at this place would cost as much as getting a beer. In what world do soda and beer go for the same rate? The service was underwhelming. Maybe its because we came in with t-shirts and had just come in from hiking in Great Falls and they figured us for poor non-Potomacians, or maybe they were just lame and realized they could phone it in and the Potomokes would just still shell out a 20% tip because thats the thing to do. Maybe I just wrote this paragraph to try new things to call Potomans. I would say this is a very Potomatic establishment. in the end, don't go here unless you indeed don't know how much a good burger should cost because you are quite likely a Potomacution. Potomussians, Potomassians, Potomeans? I am sticking with Potomokes.

I decided to try this place out the other day. Stopped in for a beer at the bar and a bite to eat. There were some drunk men at the bar singing, which was nice at first, but got to be quite annoying, although they were nice. I had the cornmeal fried eggplant topped with lump crabmeat, a tomato relish and drizzled with hollandaise sauce. Wow! It was absolutely delicious! Will definitely return for that and other yummy things I saw on the menu!
(4)Tim D.
Being a local, I would love to say this place is like "Cheers", full of warmth and good times, but unfortunately,- it's not. It's pretty clear that the locals not only support this place,- they're the only ones who keep it in business. The food is average, the prices are high and no one complains, because hey,- it's Potomac: if there's a problem, just throw money at it. If the problem persists,- throw more money! This place is not about fine dining as much as it is about back-slapping curmudgeons whose taste buds were shot half a century ago. If for some reason you find yourself hankering after a dinner in Potomac and you don't mind finding a hemmorage in your wallet, at least go across the street to Bezu where you (& your wallet) can bleed in better appointed surroundings!
(2)Chris N.
Where do I even start.. Ugh just do yourself a favor and KEEP DRIVING.. dont eat here unless you want horrible service, mediocre food, 1980 airplane sized soft drinks and a wait staff that you have to to throw rocks at their head to get attention.
(1)Devon S.
Potomac Village is replete with haughty disappointments and Hunter's Inn is no exception. The food might reach 3 star worthy (if you are really hungry) but mainly its just standard burgers & fries, absolutely taste-less pasta and relatively bland fish offerings. The price is inflated because, come on kids, its Potomac. But I will also say that the atmosphere, as long as you don't sit out in the open, can be very nice. Now for why I will truly never go back unless I am desperate. I went with a medium group, maybe like 8-ish of us. The service was inexcusable. From not getting ketchup for 20+ minutes to the 1.5 hour (yes, 90 minutes) payment fiasco, which I still think never panned out correctly, there were serious lack of care for costumer service. It was like they just made up a bill that had nothing to do with what we ordered, nor cared what happened after they handed it to us. What angers me more than a bill with random charges for drinks and sides we never ordered was their response to the mistake. We gave them the bill back with our corrections, and they didn't come back with it for 30 minutes!! After we realized 30 mins had passed we got their attention, gave them the credit cards, only to have them screw up the charges, have to refund us, and start the whole process over again. Seriously, I thought someone was going to come out with a "you're on hidden camera!!!!" gag it was so ridiculous.
(2)David O.
I had some trepidations reading the reviews after a family member chose this place, but everyone in our group of 5 raved about the food and service. Maybe my biggest pet peeve with food is overcooked hamburgers, and theirs was medium rare to perfection. One of our party whose opinion on Italian food I respect said that the Monday Italian day at Hunter's Inn is excellent quality, with large portions. (We were there on s Sunday.) The reviews of this restaurant say it's overpriced, but it seems quite moderate and a good value-- for lunch at least.
(4)Greg C.
Very good burgers and a decent bar, just make sure you sit on the pub side of the restaurant if you want to catch sports on the TV. During the AT&T golf tournament at Congressional you can always catch a golfer or two after their round here.
