I writing for cal tor in general. This is the worst by far of the big tex mex chains in the area. The first time I ate here I practically threw up. It was disgusting. When I'm forced to eat here, I stick to the basics- soft tacos and plain burritos. It's just a cheap tex mex place that tries and fails to live up to the others.

this location is always very clean and the wall of hot sauces is always perfectly organized and well stocked. would rather go here than chipotle.

I've only been to California Tortilla once, but it was pretty fun messing around with different types of hot sauces along the infamous Wall. BP and I went after a Softball game and it was really filling. I remember I wanted to try the turkey chili, but I think it was finished for the night (at around 7:00 pm). I'll have to visit again so I can write a better review for the place. I am eager to try their Gyro meal that is being advertised.

I like to order online and thankfully this Cal Tort has a separate line for online orders (I wish all Cal Torts had this). The people here are always nice but be sure to check your order before you leave. They normally forget that I ordered a soda online. They'll apologize....give me a regular cup...then I will ask if this is the large size (I know it is not the large size)....and then they will look at the order and see I did order the large cup and hand it to me. Maybe I should have included that negative (if it is one....just check your order. No harm No foul) in the beginning. I do not want anyone thinking this is a bad Cal Tort. I will continue to go to this location even though I work in Rockville and I think Rockville has one too.

I have been to and reviewed other California Tortillas locations, but I felt compelled to write a review for this locale because nobody mentioned their fish tacos. They are the best fast food choice, hands down! The only other fast food fish tacos that have my heart is Tackle Box in Georgetown. The 'burbs are more convenient and they are cheaper here (except on 1/2 priced Wednesdays at TB's). I ordered the platter which is two tacos, soda and a small queso and chips. The queso is always hot (temperature). They don't skimp on the pieces of fish in each taco. I will always be a fan of Calt Tort as long as they keep fish tacos on the menu!

I grew up eating here, so while CalTor - NOT CalTort - isn't the best Cal Mex in the world, I still love a Blackened Chicken Caesar Burrito! That's literally all I will eat here. The house sauce is very good, and I'm a heat seeker, so I appreciate the wall and heat ratings of all the hot sauces.

I eat at all the Caltort locations in the VA-DC-MD area and this is one of the best. My recent visit started with a smile and fast efficient service from Taylor my order taker. The interior is modern and new. The Wall of Flame (a Caltort special attraction) was well stocked and the food was fresh (another Caltort specialty) and well portioned. They have not one but two of those new 100 item drink dispensers and each was located at different sides of the restaurant along with the condiments, napkins, and utensils, all of which prevents crowding at a single location.. Nothing but good things to say about this location.

For fast food, I suppose Cal-tor gets the job done. Don't hold this place to high expectations (at all) and you most likely will not be dissapointed. Tends to get crowded with teens and kids on weekends and weeknights. And that can get REALLY annoying. Also, very long lines. Bonus points for their sweet new soda machine!!!

This is a great tortilla place and was our first time eating at this chain since moving to the DC area. We didn't have any CALTOR's in Richmond. I love the hundreds of different hot sauces to choose from and the diversity of burrito flavors and special/seasonal combinations are refreshing. Keep up the good work. p.s. My kids LOVE the coke machine that offers about 10 different flavors of coke alone!

This place isn't a restaurant, its fast food, but has the best best best vegetarian burritos anywhere in DC! I also heard their tacos are to die for! It's a nice quick lunch/dinner and tastes gourmet! Def check this place out if your in the DC area..

As I sit here writing this review, I am drooling over the thought of a big bowl of California Tortilla's queso - forget the chips, forget a spoon - I just want to bathe in it! mmm Now onto my review before things get a little more NC-17... so my family and I have been coming to this California Tortilla location since it opened it Cabin John Mall and continue to eat here at least once a month - mostly carryout. Without fail, you will always find this place busy. If it's nice out, both inside and outside seating are packed. The good thing? They are fast, efficient, and on top of their game, so no matter how busy it is, you're still in and out very quickly. I do consider California Tortilla fast food, but it's not like your typical burger joint - the food is fresh, their menu has something that appeals to everyone, and you can always customize without a problem. If you're getting a burrito, Blackened Chicken Caesar and Buffalo Chicken Wing are my fav's... the only thing I recommend is asking them for 1/2 the amount of rice, otherwise, you'll end up in a carb coma. Somehow, after all my years of coming here, I was just recently made aware of their nachos, which I ordered with a mix of blackened chicken and steak, with extra queso. Holy nomgasm - I mean I was wishing "Honey I Shrunk The Kids" was real so I could find that damn machine and shrink myself to the point that I could go swimming in these nachos. That's how good they were. If you can't stand heat, make sure you tell them to go light on the jalapeño because this location can be a little heavy handed with that. Otherwise, this dish is $$$ BABY!! Word To The Wise: If you're a Foursquare addict like I am, you will get a free queso when you check in! (and if you don't want it, just tell them to set it aside for me!)

California Tortilla isn't as good as Chipotle, but it's certainly comfort food whenever I'm back in the DC area for Christmas. Chicken quesadilla with a #1 combo - unchanged since I worked in Bethesda as a teenager over a decade ago - always hits the spot and feels like home. However, I feel like I need to mention that the awful "Caltort" is NOT how you abbreviate or mention it as shorthand. It is, and will always be, CalTor.

I love this place, the only thing I love more are the burritos there! They are some of the most nomolishies things I ever had. While not truly a real Mexican place, this place takes on a fun approach to burritos. They are so much better then what you get in normal places. They have a very big menu that varies in different burritos and tacos. I been going here for a while now and still trying out different burritos on the menu. Just so much to try! Very friendly staff with good sense of humor :) MUST ORDER: Crunchy BBQ Ranch Burrito, Queso with Chips TIP: Check-in with Foursquare to get free Queso with Chips and save 20c this way from your order. Get their rewards card and earn points toward free food!

I ate here at lunch today. Had a chicken enchilda bowl, I've never really al dente style rice until now. I wish I tried the fish tacos. But the most fascinating thing in the restaurant was this silver urinal machine that is a freestyle coke machine. With one touchscreen you can have a range of flavorful sodas. Because of their liberal refill policy I tried nearly all of them for the benefit of the public and here's my assessment: Raspberry Coke-tastes like ass, but would be ok with vodka Orange Coke-it tastes like Fanta and Coke together, would be ok with vodka Lime Coke-ok, would be good with vodka. Vanilla Coke-been there, done that, available in stores Cherry Coke-been there, done that, available in stores, also good with vodka Vanilla Coke Zero-a new dimension of ass flavor. Lunch (enchilda bowl and soda) was $9. A little pricey, and makes me yearn for a taco truck.

The food is not real food here. Why would people spend their money on fake food that makes you feel sick? I will never understand. Seriously this is not real food. This is more like a chemical plant than a restaurant. Wake up America!

This California Tortilla is in a strip mall called Cabin John Mall and Shopping Center, just a mile or two from Westfield Montgomery Mall. From Tuckerman Street going northwest-bound, it's on the right. What sets this California Tortilla apart from others is that this has two of those electronic soda machines and their Wall of Flame hot sauces is huge and all stocked. However, the hot sauces say "Refrigerate after opening" but they weren't refrigerated.

Poor costumer service. Food was good. They would not sub guac for my daughter's queso in her kids meal without charging full price for kids meal and the guac. She doesn't like queso and neither do I.

Was in the area for a meeting and really wanted a chipotle equivalent, unfortunately I was pretty disappointed. I walked in and there are bunch of employees behind the counter and no one taking orders, mind you the place was empty except one couple. Eventually someone came over, apologized and took orders. I ordered a BBQ ranch bowl and was disappointed I had to pay extra to add something like sour cream or change it to steal when the bowl was already $6.69. I added sour cream and avocado and asked for no lettuce. I received my order with guac (which I didn't want) and a ton of lettuce with my sour cream on top...then the steak was dry and felt like it must have been sitting out forever, won't be going back

California Tortilla is one of my favorite quick restaurants, regardless of the location. The customer service is great! Every time I go in, the cashiers are "spunky" and immediately ready to take your order with a smile on their face. They always get it right, and I've never had a problem or issue. I am giving this a solid 4. The reasons being is because sometimes in the kitchen my order is messed up, so I always have to check the bag before leaving to make sure all my food are in there. Also, the prices are kind of high for a couple of quesadillas. However, as member of the Elito Burrito club, I get five dollars off every now and then. Overall, I recommend this place to everybody. There is amazing food that's quick. The restaurant is decent enough to sit and dine and if you play your cards right, you can control the prices! So if you love high-quality Mexican or Southwestern food, come down to this place that's kind of like the fast food version of Rio Grande.

Here is what I hate about Cal Tor, you have to ask for the small size of anything you order or they automatically give you the most expensive size. They are getting just a little to pricey for me.

I love spinning the big wheel on Monday nights! Fun and good food! The food here is always fresh and I am satisfied. The staff at this store is helpful and the service is quick. I have not been let down yet. Try the fish tacos! I love them. When I am at my "man time of the month", I love to have a taco salad. Get it, get out the stretchy elastic pants and eat it. You will be happy. The burritos are good. I have had several, so I am not going to list them all or you will stop reading and I will be sad :(

I don't know why I come back to this place. It's probably because it's what's closest to work for me. I've had their burritos, and they aren't too bad. NEVER get a quesadilla there. That is a poor excuse of a quesadilla. It's just chicken and cheese with not sides... TERRIBLE!!! There is no tomato, sour cream, or guac. I was truly let down :( I do like their gator sauces...tastey and their brownies. I'm a school teacher in the area, and for our 8th grade luncheon, the kids get Cal Tor... they LOVE IT!!! Me?....Not so much! Come over to my house and I'll make you better Mexican food... and I'm not even Mexican!

Oh god, what a disappointment. I am visiting for the holidays and have been craving a burrito for the past few days. I got a veggie and guacamole burrito. It was huge and stuffed with 90% rice. There were 3 huge chunks of zucchini, a few corn pieces, and some pepper. Too much sour cream, too creamy guac, and 15 black beans. And then I left and my stomach started to hurt. I told my dad and he said that he has stopped going here because that happens to him too. Ugh.. Though, I do love the huge variety of hot sauces.

They're always friendly and the food is tasty!! The speed at which the food arrives is quick, even at the busy hours of lunch and the quality is high. It does get quite busy and the seating gets a bit hairy from time to time but the atmosphere is easy-going and driven by the staff. This location is clean and all hot sauces and sodas are found easily. Personally, I love the burritos So much!! but the tacos are great as well. I'm sure the other foods are wonderful but I'm addicted to the burritos. Food is well-worth the price....even worth more!

The wall of sauces is cute but having them rated simply by heat is incredibly superficial. The other problem is that if you order a salad, there's no way to mix the sauce in. The salad containers are not large enough to do any mixing so it's impossible to do anything other than sprinkle sauce on the top layer and eat that. It's also a pain because most the salads with chicken have big strips of chicken - are you supposed to cut the chicken before every forkful? What a nuisance. I've asked them to chop the salads and mix the dressing in but they simply ignore such requests. I guess the cashiers have no way of indicating that on their computerized ordering system. That said, I do like their food and I do like their sense of humor. I just think they don't seem to have a customer viewpoint.

Here's what they don't tell you when you move to California... There are no California Tortillas. I was very disheartened when I learned this the hard way. CalTor is easily one of the places I miss the most on the east coast. It was one of my go-tos for inexpensive, quality eats. The menu is such that it has something for everyone. And don't even get me started on the wall of hot sauces! Simply amazing!

I'm always up for a great burrito, and when I walk into a burrito place in November and learn that I can have a Thanksgiving burrito filled with turkey, spicy cranberry sauce, and other goodies, I'm a happy guy. If I lived in the area year-round, I could see this being a weekly visit of mine. I have no idea why someone would eat a bland, standardized, anonymous Chipotle burrito instead of a unique and delectable CalTor burrito. The best thing about this place is the wide variety of hot sauces--I absolutely love trying different types of hot sauces, and it's a treat when I can try new kinds without investing in a full bottle at the grocery store. There have to be like at least 20 kinds of sauces here. I noticed on their website that this is a chain--maybe they'll open one up in Cleveland? *fingers crossed* I hope so, because my wife and I's fave local burrito chain just shut down and I don't want to have to hold my nose and go to Chipotle every time I want a nice big stuffed burrito.

Went in on a monday and the (very pretty) girl behind the counter free-rolled me an extra 50 cents off (I let her spin and it landed on 75 cents off). Food is good, I wish they would press out the tortilla like chipotle does. The CT burritos tear a little easier than chipotle ones and the wrap job isn't as great. I cross state lines for the coke freestyle machine. Raspberry coke is a big win

Caltor is a shining star in the otherwise crowded fast food burrito market. While my favorite national chain remains Baja Fresh, this mid atlantic beauty is my overall favorite. They apply a California Pizza Kitchen like philosophy to burritos, with varietals ranging from the Havana burrito to the Thai burrito to the best selling Blackened Chicken Caesar, my personal favorite. The queso is a great addition to any meal and you can kick the heat up a notch by adding one of the many hot sauces available on the wall of flames. While Caltor is a winner overall, this particular local suffers slightly. I have been frequenting the Potomac location for the past 2 months since moving to the area and they seem to have a problem with their rice cooker - the rice is always a little bit crunchy. If they could get the rice back down to a smoother consistency, this would be a 5 star.

i like the atmosphere and the space but iwas not satisfied with what i had! i tried the mixed bowl burrito and the grilled chicken fajita. when they were preparing it i expected the meal to be huge but really it was barely in that huge platter! i mean it is good that the portions arent that big because its healthier....but i rather get a good size meal it tasted only okay.. but maybe i should have tried to fish tacos everyone else was getting

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
