Restaurant was clean and wait staff was friendly. I had the Fried Chicken and Steamed Shrimp combo. The chick was moist and flavorful, The shrimp are prepared per the local custom (shells still on and Old Bay). Prices were reasonable. It was not overly crowded and I received my food quickly. It is worth trying out if you are in the area and looking for a decent place to eat and grab a beer. the only fault I have is the beer selection was not all that robust but that isn't uncommon in this neck of the woods.

Delicious, fresh local seafood! I had a crab cake as big as my fist- all crab, no fillers. Yumm! The soft crabs were deep fried (a little too much breading for me). Everyone enjoyed their meals. Definitely a good place to stop while driving up Rte 13 on the Eastern Shore.

(1.50 stars) Context means everything when trolling small towns and rural areas for dinner. Over the years I've had business trips to places where alternatives to McD's are few. I've spent full weeks in Pocomoke City several times, usually in travel to clients just over the VA border of the Eastern Shore. There are a few options here, and while it isn't fine dining, Don's is alright. Their fried chicken is fresh (there are bazillions of chickens in this area), well seasoned and competently cooked. I've also been served by Don's seafood alter ego; shrimp overcooked and drenched in Old Bay seasoning. Piled onto shell-on shrimp, Old Bay seasons the diner's fingers as much as it does the shrimp. This vile seasoned salt is a regional custom, and undoubtedly masks the taste of much past-prime seafood. They use enough Old Bay on the steamed shrimp to ruin any shrimp flavor.

During a recent lunch stop at Don's Seafood and Chicken House in Pocomoke, MD, my wife and I made a marvelous discovery: Sweet Potato Smith Island Cake. For those unaware, Smith Island cake is a traditional Maryland dessert (the official State dessert) that originated from the island region of the same name over 100 years ago. This labor-intensive confection features 8 to 15 thin cake layers each spread with frosting or crème. Though this culinary treat is often composed of yellow cake, its variations are many--really only limited to one's imagination. What we discovered at Don's was the unique creation of their talented baker, Shannan. Her Sweet Potato Smith Island cake is based on the imaginative use of that vegetable. She has carefully crafted her cake to be amazingly moist, sweet and indescribably flavorful. If you like Sweet Potato pie you'll love Shannan's creation. On second thought, it's so good that even if you don't like sweet potato pie you'll still like Shannan's cake. She's even created a carrot cake version which we also tasted. Predictably, it too was scrumptious. In fact, her talents go even further with other Smith Island cake versions such as Red Devil (alternating layers of Red Velvet & Devil's Food) and Oreo (a cake version of the cookie). Needless to say, these (and others) are on the must-have list for future visits. If your travels take you in the vicinity of Pocomoke City, stop at Don's Seafood and Chicken House and enjoy a delicious lunch or dinner (mouth-watering crab cakes & great roasted chicken) and complete the experience with some of Shannan's excellent cake.

Great place to stop and eat while traveling - very clean with quick, friendly service and well prepared food. We had lunch at 12 on a Saturday and there was no wait. The sweet potato fries were seasoned with cinnamon and sugar - so yummy!

As you can tell by the name, Don's doesn't really know what it wants to be. Is it a seafood joint, a fried chicken place, a pirate pub...? And as a jack of all trades, Don's is really a master of none. It's a so-so seafood place, so-so fry place, and a piss poor pirate pub, of which it's only attempt to espouse is by plastering the place with it's eye-patched, peg-legged chicken.... Arrrrgh! It's like they took a poll things tourists like and smooshed the results into something they thought would be appealing to all... Throw in Chincoteague pony and they'll have everything covered. In tribute to this, the food is not memorable, but not disastrous. You can eat here ok, and the decent selection of beers on tap will help it go down.
