Italian Cuisine
The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

This place looks and smells like a moldy dungeon!! I had the chicken marsala. The chicken had NO TASTE whatsoever. This place comes nowhere NEAR the Olive Garden.... and that's bad!! lol

If I could leave ) stars I would. This was such a terrible dining experience I will never go back. Poor food, terrible service, and bad environment. I went to dinner with two girlfriends last night and we planned to have a large tab with appetizers, dinner, and dessert. The restaurant is dark, dirty, and the booths haven't been cleaned in a long time. We sat at our table for over 10 minutes before our server came to see us even though we think we were his only table. He wasn't friendly or engaging he just wanted our order and clearly wanted to leave. We hadn't seen each other in a while so we wanted to catch up so we took a little time ordering. When we did order one of us asked for a suggestion on an entree and Dustin, our server, rattled off 5 or 6 things without explaining why they were good. So she picks the one he suggests as his top pick. While we wait for dinner salad and bread arrives and then a few minutes later our appetizer does. So our table is covered and then no more than 5 minutes later our dinners appear. We were in no rush and we hadn't had a chance to eat our salad or crap dip (which was not good---red peppers in crab dip yuck!). We almost sent our appetizer back since we hadn't eaten it but decided not to be a 'trouble' table. Or so we thought... Our friend who took Dustin's suggestion, had to send her food back because it was overcooked pasta with watered down bad vodka sauce. Foul. The other two entrees were fine, simple, but fine. Dustin barely checked on our table and spent most of his time talking to someone in the bar area. Which was bothersome since we clearly weren't enjoying our experience and he could care less. No manager came to see us at all during our dinner. We decided to order dessert which was a mistake. The cheesecake was store bought and stale and the brownie sundae two of us ordered had been microwaved and topped with ice cream that was so freezer-burned we couldn't eat it. It took 10 minutes for our server to ask us about our desserts and we sent the brownies back. We were given the check without asking for it, rushed to pay, and got an attitude for splitting up the check ourselves. When we signed our receipts he promptly showed up to remove the signed copies from our table (which is SO RUDE we were all servers and we know NEVER to do that!!!) and then stormed out of the restaurant. There was no one there under the age of 40, so you would think a server would be happy to see a young group clearly willing to have a nice night out. Sadly we won't be back. Dustin also called one of us babe and said certain items were not good, and that the ice cream was freeze burnt because they "sell like no desserts ever so no wonder they are bad".

I've eaten here a few times with coworkers and have always had a good meal. The salads and bread they start you off with at lunch are always fresh. I've had the pasta carbonara with a very creamy sauce with generous bacon (yeah, it's worth a heart attack), and pesto pasta-also very good. I've never left the place without a box of left overs--you get a lot of pasta for the price. But lets face it-pasta is cheap. It's like coffee-there's no overhead. Still no complaints there. It's a little dark and a tad grungy. If I were the manager I'd renovate by taking out the old carpeting and dark wood, replace the dim lighting and put in some rustic floor tile; this place would be a world class American-Italian restaurant.

My family went to the Olive Branch after a family friend recommended it (at the time we lived in Montgomery County, and I can tell you it was worth the trip). We moved to the area this summer. I've been here 3 times since (yes, we do kind of like this place...), and I have been completely satisfied each time. The wait staff is kind and helpful (and quick!), the food is delicious (even the pizza!). It's great for a romantic dinner or for a family gathering - they have all kinds of pasta dishes, pizzas and even sandwiches with fries. Whenever it's my turn to choose where we go to dinner, the Olive Branch is my first choice (to treat ourselves - normally we'd go to a super cheap place, we are not fancy people). Slightly pricey but, in my opinion, totally worth it. I think the big salad they bring for the whole table is amazing, and the breadsticks are pretty great, too. Plenty of parking, and don't let the fact that it's part of a Ramada fool you - the restaurant is classy but comfortable. And, can't forget to mention, the desserts are out of this world, especially the cannoli.

This place wasn't a complete dump but it was verging on it. Decor is outdated, wait staff boring, salad was wilted and dressing was bland, pasta was plentiful but sauces were very bland and boring. The bathrooms were disgusting and sadly the thing that stuck out the most were the flies, they were everywhere.
(2)Meatdowntown C.
Three stars for the crab cakes ONLY!. Super excellent crab cake with questionable Italian dishes. Again, stick with the crabcake. The place is dirty, outdated, crappy and smelly carpet, awful bathrooms but very attentive waitstaff and the bartender Patrick is a riot. It is definitely a dumpy restaurant but the crab cake will make your night. The tiramissu is actually good, but the presentation is ridiculous. Again...stick with the crabcake!

The food was delicious and the prices were great... However... I have to ding this place for the atmosphere. It felt like the location was awkward, the decorations were due for a remodel and I had concerns about cleanliness due to the overall state of the dining room. I certainly don't demand a "fine dining experience" from every restaurant I visit but when I start to question the safety of the food for no other reason than the appearance of the structure, well, it may be time to address that.

First of all, The Olive Branch is SO much better than The Olive Garden. Just had to put that out there. Ok, now on to my review. Some friends and I had a mini reunion for a mentoring program we had in college. I chose TOB because I'd eaten there before and thought their lasagna was pretty good. We had a reservation for 7 PM but because of Inauguration-related traffic, we didn't get there until about 7:30. The hostess was very friendly and once we got in, we were shown to our seats. Our waiter was very friendly (I believe his name was Rinaldo) and attentive. We ordered the crab and artichoke dip which was ABSOLUTELY delicious. There were 5 of us who shared it and there was plenty to go around. Seriously, I'd go to TOB just for that dip. Just like the last time I went, the bread and salad were also delicious. For my entree I ordered the lasagna and it was just as yummy as I remembered. I mean, it's not Maggiano's lasagna (heavenly), but it's also not The Olive Garden's (yuck!). Before leaving I left a "You've Been Yelped" card on the table, so hopefully somebody there will check out this review. Hooray for The Olive Branch!
(4)Brian S.
The good: generous portions, great crab cakes The bad: TERRIBLE service. Everytime and we've eaten here at least 5 times in the past few months (due to out of town guests that want the crab cakes). The staff acts like it is an inconvenience to seat you. Want a drink refill? Good luck. Need your meal with any normal turnaround time? Forget it. Even getting the check is a pain. If they would realize that service is 50% of the experience (the other being the food), we would go back. But until the service matches the quality of what comes out of the kitchen, we won't be back. (Until an out of town guest insists that they have to go for a crab cake.)
(2)Andy S.
Olive garden of mediocre eatin. This reminds me of the mcdonalds knockoff in the eddie murphy movie where the guy copied everything from macdnalds, almost. They almost want you to think that you accident,y went to olive garden, but it just is a poor reflection of it.
(2)Punanamous P.
The place gave me the creeps. Kinda like a place you'd throw a Halloween party in mid June. Old furniture, dirty carpet, nasty bathroom. The salad was soggy...and the lasagna had NO FLAVOR. Hey, but my waiter was extra cool...
(2)Jessica P.
I ordered the eggplant parmesan, and I was very disappointed to see that it was not baked, like the menu said, but instead it was deep-fried. I tried to peel the fried part off, but the eggplant itself was so thin that there was nothing left. I decided to send it back (which I never do), and the waiter told me that if I wanted to keep the side of pasta, they'd charge me $2. The crab dip was ok, but the toast it came with was almost too hard to bite. And the coffee tasted like the day-old stuff served in waiting rooms at tire shops.
(2)john b.
I had the crabcake, and it is excellent. Great balance of flavor and a good amount of crabmeat. Nice sized salad with an Italian-like dressing. Bread sticks were average. Fries were good. I definitely would revisit if I'm in the neighborhood. Ambiance is a little dark and old feeling but I'm all about the food.

I went here the other night- it is connected to a Hotel and is right off 695. They start you out with the huge salad bowls just like Olive Garden and this great bread that is a mix between a stick and roll. The bread had a wonderful garlic butter flavor and was very strong (but not overbearing). You could just have a dinner of salad and bread and be content! The portions are monstrous with very fair prices. A few of us got the Spaghetti Carbonara. The sauce was very thick and had tons of huge mushrooms and huge pieces of fresh bacon (not pieces where you have to search for)- it was about $11. I had enough leftovers for 2 other meals! The other dishes looked good and everyone said they were good- they ranged form crab-cakes to other pasta dishes The service was good- there was a group of 5 of us and we talked a long time before we ordered and the waitress keep checking back in on us. I would stop in an eat here again.

I usually come here straight from the airport. This place has great crabcakes and the prices are completely fair for the amount of food they bring you. The salad is very tasty. Great place for big groups.

Olive Branch "was" truly a favorite. Crab cakes "were" very good. They were made with beautiful pieces of lump crab, seasoned well, and very little breading. Service "was" great! It "was" completed in a timely and orderly manner. If I ordered from the "Take out area", the food "was" just as beautiful as if I were seated in the restaurant. It did not look as if someone's finger played with it before placing the items in the bag. Also, I do not recall having lemon (or lime) seeds in the meal. Disappointed, yes because it was not just one or two "hiccups". I must say, with all that was shared, the manager was apologetic and accommodating however, even he said he would not ask "a third time" to correct a mistake. Sadly, that was my last day.

The Olive Branch is unassumingly great. It doesn't look that nice on the outside or even on the inside, but the moment you take a bite of the delicious italian food, you will be experiencing "happy belly." My favorite thing to get here is the crab cake, which many people have compared to G&M's of Baltimore. It is lump crab and so filling that you could probably just have one for dinner. Personally, I like to share an eggplant parmesan with someone and get a crabcake as well. The salad is delicious and so are the breadsticks. This is the kind of meal you want after a long day at work or just if you're looking for some comfort food. My boyfriend recently got takeout from there for us and we just went to town!
(4)Alyona Z.
This place was a recommendation from the front desk at the doubletree by Hilton which was very convenient as it was literally across the street. The food was phenomenal and everyone's food came out perfect. The only reason I give it 4 stars is because it took our food so long. The restaurant was Simi empty. But overall, everything else was great. The ambiance was modern yet casual.
(4)David S.
Update: Called the owner to tell them about the terrible service and food. The hostess told me that, "the owner does not talk to customers". So a recap Crab cakes tasted like crab flavored bread pudding. Soup was broken with a red oil on top. Charged me for a salad I did not order, even though it should have come free with my entree. Manager asked if my party "could read". Thanks Irving (the manager) I will not go back for ANY reason.
(1)Patrick V.
Bread: delicious Salad: yummy Food: good Portion size: revolting Between the two dinners we ordered a family of six could have eaten for a week. And the sad part was that we were staying in a hotel and couldn't take any leftovers. If you go, go hungry and be prepared to take a lot home.
(3)Caroline I.
Chicken and shrimp piccata was great. Wonderful lemon and capers flavor. Ask for Parmesan cheese to sprinkle. Portions are huge. We will definitely be back. Pasta is made in house.
(5)Melissa B.
Salad was fresh, tasty, and plentiful. Bread sticks were good. I had chicken parm, which was served with linguini. Sauce was slightly sweet. Overall I liked it. He had lasagna which he says "wasn't bad." Didnt look very gd to me as the meat in it was in big chunks and a bit too light in color for beef. Service was good but a bit slow getting the check. Bill was $25 for the 2 of us and we each have enough leftovers for lunch tomorrow. Not a spectacular place but we enjoyed n will return.
(4)Chamille B.
I didn't know what to expect from an Italian restaurant attached to a hotel, but I was pleasantly surprised. This is a simple Italian restaurant with good food and a very pleasant, attentive staff. Between the huge salad and bread basket, calamari, and crab cake stuffed orange roughy, I practically had to be rolled out of there. The portions are large and my Roughy was extremely moist, as was the flavorful crab cake (which was packed with lump crab!). Though the food isn't mind blowing on its own, the service is really good.
(3)Nikeita P.
It was just okay. You do get large portions but the portions aren't very appetizing. He calamari appetizer was delicious however my filet was bland, the manicotti with Alfredo sauce was weird in texture as well as taste and the shrimp Alfredo was very very bland. It was a random selection with friends one evening but enough to make us not return in the future.

I've been coming here for over 4 years now. My grandmother is obsessed with the crab cakes here, which is how I was introduced. The crab cakes are the best. I've actually never even tried anything else. Get the fries or potatoes as a side. The veggie side is not good, but the salad is tasty. The crab cakes, like everything else in the past four years, are not as good as they once were, but still really amazing.
(3)Maurice G.
Great food and even better service, It's these types of restaurants that make you want to avoid the franchise cookie cutter eating establishments. I will definitely be returning. PS their mozzarella sticks are the best I've ever had.
(4)Kojo B.
I have eaten at the Olive Branch several times and one thing is for sure they dont skimp on the portions, huge, huge. Unlimited bread (yum) and salad. I typically just order basic stuff such as veal and spaghetti and meatballs. The veal is good, the marinara is kinda bland, the spaghetti and meatballs are alright and their pizza was unmemorable. However portion sizes you are guaranteed to take some home. I like it.
(3)Jasmine W.
The crab dip was bad burnt bits of cheese yuck but the crab pretzal made up for that tenfold. Salad was good but the crutons weren't they were soft and the seasonings on them made it almost inedible. The chicken wasn't bad it wasn't good either. Crab pretzal was delicious though

Saw this place across the street from the Doubletree and I figured I'd give this place a shot. Reminded me of the Olive Garden - their lasagna is "out of sight". After watching a heavyset woman "pants" her also-heavyset friend/sister when I pulled in, I had to sit in the car and re-evaluate my decision [also needed to get soft again - don't want a sexual offense on my record], but ultimately headed inside. Opted to try the fried crab cake and get a little side of lasagna. The salad has everything but the kitchen sink in it [think they forgot to steal Olive Garden's recipe] and the dressing was funky. Breadsticks were okay, I guess. Meh. Lasagna was so poor, I would have gladly shipped ME to Abu Dhabi [little Garfield reference for you "die-hard" Jim Davis fans like me]. Watered down sauce and pretty messily done. I will say though, the crab cakes are to die for. Huge chunks of meat and very well seasoned. Best I've ever had, hands down. Didn't have a good Malbec on hand so I opted to put down an entire bottle of [warm] Limoncello and ended up getting my Buick's tires slashed for some light gawking at a patron with his lady friend [looked like an escort + place is part of a Ramada]. Thank heavens my hotel was across the street. Basically a confirmation of a lot of prior reviews for this place - great crab cakes, nothing else.

So disappointed! I will start with a positive...the company I was with. We choose to come to the Olive Branch for a tribute to my dad who is sick in the hospital knowing how much he enjoys the food. *The service was horrible, it took over 10 min. for our server to greet us and take our orders. He never came back to ask if we wanted drink or salad refills. He wasn't a very friendly server and wasn't attentive when our food was brought out to be served. *The view....My view from my seat was watching men enter the Men's room and standing at the urinal...this was not very appetizing to say the least. * Automatic gratuities added to our bill because we had more than 6 people at our table and was told we were not able to have separate checks. Our experience was not good enough to warrant a 17% gratuity. * I will say the portions are good, but know matter how big the portions are the food should be good as well. When we finally received our salad and bread after 20 min sitting at the table it was brown iceburg lettuce, full of eggs and croutons. Most of the group ordered the seafood platter and it was under seasoned and dry. I had the stuffed orange roughy with crab imperial and roasted red potatoes. It wasn't to bad. The fish tasted fresh and the crab imperial had nice amount of lump crab meat. * We asked to speak to the manager, my brother explained our concerns. She apologized and gave us a meazily 10% off the meal. We will not be revisiting the Olive Branch.

5/26/2013 Actually a lot better than I thought. Chicken Parm was great as well as the chicken Sophia. Service was good, extremely friendly. Decor needs updating but def not a show stopper. Bread sticks a little doughy, salad maker could take notes from Olive Garden (sarcasm) but not terrible. Portions are enormous and good prices.
(4)Michele W.
The food was good and the service was friendly. However, the service was slow and unexperienced. The place was busy so perhaps they were understaffed. Our table was stacking up with glasses and dishes and it took quite awhile to receive our check. I probably will not return due to the high prices that don't equate to a mediocre meal and substandard service
(2)Derrick P.
The only thing that matters here is the crab cakes. Before coming here, the best crab cake in Baltimore (and probably in the country) was G&M's located near BWI airport. But, after hearing rumors that this place gives it some competition, I couldn't resist giving it a try for myself. The verdict? Olive Branch. Not as much pure lump crab meat compared to G&M's, but the sweetness of the filler outdoes the more sour filler taste you get at G&Ms. So, while there might be 5% more filler in Olive Branch's crab cakes than G&M's cakes, Olive Branch's cakes are incredibly well seasoned and better overall. If I had to choose to eat Olive Branch's or G&M's, I would go with Olive Branch, but just by a slight margin. As for anything else, not so great (hence not deserving the 5 star review). The service is average, the atmosphere is cruddy and run down (much different from the more upscale feel of G&Ms), and the other dishes on the menu are just average at best. You will get a huge amount of spaghetti for $10, but don't expect it to be any tastier than your standard Olive Garden. Bottom line...if you're looking for a nice clean atmosphere and a variety of good Italian dishes, then probably not the best place. But, if all you're looking for is a good crab cake, and some of the best in Maryland at that, this place will fit the bill! P.S. I always order two crab cakes - eat one on site and take the other home. Crab cakes taste even better after they have been microwaved the next day.
(4)R H.
I have never been so disappointed in my life. I had eaten here a few years back and it was very enjoyable. So this time I brought my family. The only concern then was the view to the men's room from our table. I really didn't enjoy seeing men at the urinals while I ate. Well, this time around, not only was the service poor, but the seafood platter was overcooked, each piece of seafood was seasoned the same way- Old Bay bland, the 17% mandatory gratuity for our party of 7 was highly over rated compared to the service and quality of the food and we were seated at the same large table with the same god awful distasteful view of men at the urinals! Surely, the design could be reworked so every time a men entered or left the bathroom, a view of the line of urinals was not greeting the patron. Our waiter needed to be reminded by the kitchen staff to serve our food sitting out on the trays, our salad was never refreshed, we waited almost 10 minutes before a waiter even came to the table, and the dining room was not crowded! I sure hope management wakes up. This was a total disappointment.
(1)Brad B.
enormous portions, literally enough food for 2 meals. nice sized salad to start, several breadsticks, chicken sofia with mushrooms & spinach. definitely a place that's seen it's better day decor wise, but the staff seemed very friendly.
(4)Miriam B.
We just dined here tonight. Had a very nice server who was super attentive. Since moving to Maryland I have had a great deal of difficulty finding good Italian food. Even with little Italy in Baltimore. All the entrees here come with homemade breadsticks and salad. I chose the Tuscan entree which included mini portions of spinach manicotti, a tasty shrimp scampi and a very burnt leathery filet mignon. Everything was great with the exception of the steak. For the other reviewers of this restaurant I found the decor to be cheerful not at all dungeon like. Our server was nice and comped us dessert since I couldn't eat the steak. We had tiramisu. The only other misstep of the night was in the drink category. We ordered sangria. Normally I love that beverage but this tasted like the cool aid I used to male with tap water as a kid. Yuck. I will give this place one more chance. Next time I'll avoid the red meat and sangria though.
(2)Victor W.
When one is trying to decide where to eat out you should consider this place. Unlimited bread and Salad which taste very good if you don't want to eat it don't eat it why complain IDIOTS. Many people bring their families here its more personal than the chain olive gardewn and that Chiken Chesapeake sandwich witht he crab cake on top nowhere in Baltimore No place at all sells a better sandwich then thirs so for the liars who dare say that the crab cake is terrible go and shoot yourself. The food here is really good and I will continue to dine here for the IDIOTS out there is something may have happended that you thought could use fixing tellt hem idiots servers are not mind readers and cannot tell whats going on is some of your thick skulls. The food is good not gourmet your not paying gourmet prices. The place is truly one of the best places to it in Pikesville area
(4)Jessica C.
There are people who like The Olive Branch and people who very much don't. I think I've yet to find someone in the middle. I am of the group of people who really like it here! I think this is because I take it for what it is and know exactly what to expect. If you come here looking for authentic Italian or fine dining, you will be sorely disappointed. (Spoiler alert: it's next to a Ramada.) If you want hearty food, big portions, and to support a local establishment that ultimately is comparable to The Olive Garden, this is your place. The Olive Branch is a personal favorite for my family. We have been here more times than I can count! Aside from good food, big portions, and good prices, this is for two reasons. First of all, the space is big. When our family gets together for dinner there are 11 of us, and finding a restaurant at peak dinner hours on a weekend that can seat us comfortably can sometimes be a challenge. This means it's also a great spot for birthday parties. You probably won't get your own room or anything, but they generally utilize the tables in the very back of the restaurant for that. The second reason why we come here a lot is because my grandma is basically obsessed with the veal parmesan. I have noticed that members of the local senior citizen community seem to really like it here... The fettucini alfredo is very creamy and (usually) not very oily. That's the key to alfredo sauce for me - creamy without seeing puddles of oil. The salad and breadsticks are unlimited and very reminiscent of The Olive Garden (but no complaints there). And the customer service has always been top notch! Throughout the years their team has always been patient with us, through it all - young kids running around, indecisive adults, grandparents with strong accents, surprise parties, etc. And they always bring out an adorable dessert for birthdays. For my grandma's birthday a few years ago they wrote "Happy 21st!" on her plate, which basically made everyone's night. Come here ready to load up on Americanized Italian food with half of Pikesville. If you keep it real, you'll probably have a great night!
(4)Amanda W.
I ordered the sampler platter - crab cake didn't have a lot of filling, the scallops were tasty, as scallops usually are, the shrimp was not overcooked which is a must. The breadsticks I didn't care for much, same with the salad that comes with it. Overall, not a terrible place for seafood in Maryland, especially if you're in the area and don't have a lot of transportation at your disposal, but there are much better places to check out.
(3)Ebony H.
This go around I went into have an after work dinner with a co-worker and the food was even tastier eating in this clean, welcoming establishment. Our server was great and gave us tons of fresh, yummy breadsticks to take home because I don't eat bread after 2p( well I was actually disciplined to not do such that day). The crab cake was filling, the salad super fresh and my co-worker loved her cream of crab soup. They have a lot of food options and I will be back to try the steak.

This place is HORRIBLE!! Came here for dinner with my son and they messed up my salad twice. Then when the finally brought the correct salad it had a lady bug crawling in it!! DISGUSTING HORRIBLE PLACE
