Our favorite Chinese when in town. Their hot & sour soup, cashew chicken, and Hunan beef are just haves. The staff is amazing whether you order in or carry out.

Are you kidding me? Who are these people that gave glowing reviews? The food is bad. The service is bad. I couldn't eat the food or was so bad. The rice was reheated and gross

Sometimes great things can be found in strip malls. Great value for the price. Peking duck is a must have. The happy family is also worth ordering. I would skip any of the sizzling dishes. Neither tasty nor authentic. Crispy birds nest noodles were also mediocre. Avoid the walnut shrimp.

If I were to characterize "Hunan D," as I like to call it, it would be at the intersection of value and quality. Although, my perspective may be slightly skewed because I live in Chinatown(downtown DC) where the Chinese food cost twice as much and is half as good. If you're looking for consistently good Chinese food at a reasonable price, then this is your place. If I could throw another adjective in there, it would be efficiency, I've spent longer times waiting for my food in drive-thrus. The best deal in the house are the lunch combinations, where you get an egg roll and a soup for less than $8!

Good quality ingredients, has brown rice as an option. Sauces can be too thick. I ask for them without cornstarch and on the side.

This is the second time I get carry out from this delicious, clean and with a smell that you know is going to be a good place. Did you know it has a section in the menu with over 35 items listed LOW FAT? Other places you are stuck with the steamed veggies in a white sauce. I had steamed fish and veggies in a brown sauce for the $11.95 + tax and I had to get the Orange chicken...I know, I know...I couldn't help it...Pricey but just amazing!... I asked if I had made it for the lunch prices...it was 2PM on Sunday..the owner said no Dinner prices on Sunday...hhhmmm is that a norm?

This review almost had 5 stars. I've been having a hard time finding decent chinese food. I do like Cashew Chicken, unfort I am allergic to onions (bad migraines!) all the other places I've been have never included onions in their cashew Chick. even when i ask to make sure there aren't. So of course the first time I dont, ask .. so beware, there are the green scallion onions in the Cashew Chicken even tho it's Not listed in the description of included ingredients. thats my only negative. I went during lunch, the wait was fine for chinese food, the selections for the lunch specials are slim, but the price for the lunch size CC was very reasonable and they gave you alot. The flavor for the amt I was able to eat was very good and tasty, it had a great sauce/coating. I got Chicken Lomein for my Dad, and that too, was priced good and he loved it, he came up for 2nds quicky and was very pleased with the low price, he's like how much was this, and I told him less than $6.00 ( I think for lunch it was $5.75, but there was a good deal of lomein in there) 2 egg rolls for $3.00 but the egg rolls are not the tiny kind, they are a decent size and the filling was very good. Nice Clean restaurant, friendly order taker (I think he was the owner). Everyones food that was sitting down looked very nice and colorful. I will definitely go back, add this to my YES for Chinese places, as good chinese places are just hard to come by. Just make sure I do NOT get onions in the cashew chicken. Definitely try this place out if you are looking for some tasty, fresh, hot Chinese food for a good price ! Plus i saw alot of the waiters carrying small bowls of ice cream to lots of the tables, so I may go actually eat THERE sometime, and hopefully get some dessert !!

This place is okay for take out but the dine in service is terrible. If you have kids with you they will put you in the back of the restaurant and basically ignore you. Our kids are pretty well behaved and even learning to use chopsticks so I think this is just a general bias.

This place has good Chinese food at a reasonable price. The service was great and the people were friendly. We had to try the soft shell crab dish and it was amazing. Will come back again.

This was pretty good Americanized Chinese food. Had broccoli beef, dumplings, and orange chicken. Service was good. I prefer the chicken to be in smaller peices, but I guess that's a personal preference. Overall, we would probably come back if we are in the area and in the mood for this kind of food.

Good Chinese for a strip mall in Olney MD. Basil chicken is very tasty, as is the Mongolian lamb. Skip the vegetable soup unless you are dieting. The chicken wings are excellent. Potstickers are hit or miss - sometimes they are too doughy, but the filling is always tasty and generously portioned. Our go-to place for a quick fix of Chinese.

There are several Chinese places to eat in Olney. Hunan Delight is by far the best in the area. My only complaint is some of the staff has a hard time with English. The food is very good though

Delightful! Good food & service. Big portions at reasonable prices, and nice little extra touches like tea and dessert. Always traveling far from home, nice to happen on a pleasent resturant like this!

i was a regular here and recommended this place to tons of people, but things changed. we went with a group of 10 and we ordered our food and everything was fine. Then we decided to order more food when i was told this... "If you order more food now, its going to take a real long time so DON'T order more food." WHAT is that all about???????? rude rude rude... i wll never go back and i hope they lose tons of business.

Fact: Best peking duck on this side of the universe. Also, the pepper steak is to die for. Every time i fly back home to see my family, i have to stop by this place.

This is one of the better Chinese restaurants around. My favorite thing about this place is the Hot Sizzling Rice Soup, which everyone should try if you stop by this place. The Peking Duck is decent and a lot of their seafood dishes are actually really good. The only negatives is that the restaurant is not very clean and also the Sesame Chicken was pretty bad. Overall, it is a good place to stop by if you happen to be in the area.

In Olney, I have to say, this is one of my favorite Chinese restaurants around. It's a comfortable place that always has good cheap Chinese food. My favorite soup is their hot and sour, but love the egg drop soup as well. As an entree their sizzling steak is one of the best I've had. The service has been impeccable every single time I've gone. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a cheap good meal. Their also very accommodating when you have reasonable requests. The owners are always very nice, and I always enjoy supporting restaurants that aren't chain!

Danger, Will Robinson When I go to a restaurant, the first thing I do is go to the bathroom. Hand-washing is good sanitation, and a bathroom gives one a good idea about the establishment's thoughts on cleanliness. If they keep a nice, clean bathroom that customers can see, then they probably keep a clean kitchen too. It's good to know. This place had a nasty bathroom with a foul smell that I don't think I've ever experienced outside of a Mexico City bus station. I cringed. I was with family. My uncle likes this place. I had to go out there. And I had to eat something. The food was mediocre and unimaginative. We had a lot of people at the table so I saw and tasted a lot of dishes from some kinds of peanut sauce chicken appetizer, steamed dumplings, fried dumplings, kung pao chicken, chicken with cashew nuts, tofu... The dumplings were average (which means they were pretty good - but nuthin' fancy). The chicken with cashew nuts had some green onions in there, but they were limp. Most of the food was just fat, carbs and MSG. And that's what Americans like. Check out some of the other reviews. Surprisingly I only got a little sick. I was worried. I was away from home. I like my privacy when I'm... well, you know. But I made it home. But that bathroom gave me nightmares. When a bathroom is that bad, what does the kitchen look like? Don't answer that question? I don't want to know.

I wasn't super impressed with the food here - I found it kind of boring but maybe I'm too snooty with my Chinese food. We started out with the spring rolls, Bon Bon chicken, and the spicy cucumber. The appetizers were definitely the best part of the meal. I actually liked all three of these dishes. Spring rolls aren't usually my thing and these were surprisingly good. They didn't provide us with a sauce for them (which they needed) but once we got one they were very good. The Bon Bon chicken was very good and the peanut sauce on top of it was really excellent. The spicy cucumber was the definite star -- they had the perfect amount of chili oil, crispy crunchiness, and tanginess. Our main courses were as follows: - eggplant with garlic sauce - maybe I didn't like this because I expected it to be stir fried and it was deep fried. Or maybe I didn't like it because it smelled really horrible which made consuming it difficult. - soft shell crab - soft shell crab is usually a favorite dish but I just wasn't impressed with the way this tasted, it was over-fried and over-salty. - lo mein - this had literally no flavor and the chicken in it was overlooked. I don't really ever order Lo mein anyways but I was with my family and they're fans. - Szechuan string beans - these were the best of the entrees, they were nicely crunchy and tasted super fresh. Also, the flavor was excellent. - wide rice noodles with beef (I just forget what these are called) - the flavor was okay and the beef was cooked nicely The service was alright and they served rainbow sherbet at the end of the meal (I didn't eat it but the concept was cute). Altogether, I really did not enjoy the food much and it gave me a bit of a stomachache (maybe too much MSG?). I wouldn't go there again but I'm sure its the right place for other people.

Came here for my bf family bday dinner.. They ordered three Peking ducks, one soup, beef chow fun, spinach and garlic, fried fish filet, and orange chicken. Soup was ok for Chinese soup.... Gelatinous.. Kinda bland.. Had mushrooms, sliced snow peas, and little lobster/crawfish pieces. Next were the ducks. Four out of the five tables around us ordered owning duck. So I would imagine it to be more freshly cooked/roasted than the last time I came.. And it was! The skin was nice and crispy. The meat was juicy. I just wish the guy cut the duck into more uniformed pieces. The scallions were really spicy... Maybe they were old? Either was they added a nice potent kick. Orange chicken was very orangey .. Nice crisp on it. Spinach was spinach.. They gave you a lot though. Chow fun was not very good at all. Neither was the filet of fish that was fried and covered with sauce.. I wouldn't come back for anything but the Peking duck. I believe it came out to 35-40$ per duck.. Which sounds high to me. Our total bill was 180$. Four stars for Peking duck and two for everything else... Kinda works to three stars right...? :/

Best Chinese food in the area. Incredible flavor and great service. The owners are super nice and always take time out to talk to you. Have been coming to this place for 15 years and would highly recommend it.

This is our go-to Chinese joint in Olney. H usually gets the general's tso chicken, all white meat. I usually get the peking duck. They don't skimp on the shrimp in shrimp dishes. I got the sesame beef last time, hubby wasn't a fan, but I loved it, would order again- soft meat with nice flavor. Singapore noodles do not disappoint. Don't get the fried rice, it isn't done properly, very bland. Lo mein is decent. Always, always get an order of the spicy wontons. They are delicious.

  • Jania C.

Really 4 1/2 stars The food is way above average compared with other Chinese restaurants in the area. The atmosphere is nice, and the service is pretty good, depending on where you sit. Try the crispy shrimp rolls. Yummy. The wonton soup is okay but not the best. The lo mein is sort of plain. But all the other dishes I've tried were great. I love their lemon chicken and all of their shrimp dishes. The portions are huge for lunch and dinner, and the prices are very reasonable. There's plenty of parking.

My parents love this place! If you want Peking duck... You need to come here. If you have a big group on a weekend-- make sure you call ahead as it can get busy! Their seafood sizzling rice soup is also good! Service is great! Typical honest dishes that you find at most places but definitely the Peking duck is great!!!

Great spot for Peking Duck. I have been here twice in the past month, and both times the duck has been excellent. On weekend nights (Friday & Saturday) the duck is hand carved at your table while you watch. The egg drop and Hot and Sour soups are excellent. Chicken and Cashews was sweeter than other places, and very good. Great spot to get some drinks too - the volcano makes for a festive night!

I WANT MY MONEY BACK! This restaurant is beyond disappointing to me. The food was awful, and its not just me who thinks this, its 15 other people who I got take out with. The lomain was weird, huge noodles, awful color and taste, barely any sauce on them. The fried rice was like white with soy and the meat and Brocoli was disgusting. The meat looked weird, like it had veins or something just odd about it. Everything else was just as terrible. We literally took 3 bites and threw the food in the trash, mind you, I never throw food away!

1 star for the service, two stars for the food. First, we walked in and had two waitresses stare at us. Not say a word, not offer table, just stare at us and the walk away. I'm sorry, but we had never been there before, and there isn't a sign that says wait to be seated or seat yourself. Would it be that hard to say something?? (On that note, the layout of the place really doesn't work. There is no room for waiting, so people end up standing on top of the tables, almost hovering for someone to get up. Not a very pleasant atmosphere.) The service didn't get any better really. It just want friendly at all. To add to that, the entrees for our party of four came out at three separate times. Two of the entrees came, then ten minutes later, the next one, then another five minutes before the last one finally made an appearance. By that time the first entrees were cold. I have no idea what they thinking by doing this. As for the food, it was ok. The steamed dumplings were actually rather tasty, but the spare ribs had almost no meat on them. My entree was the kang pao chicken. It was ok, but definitely not as spicy as advertised. The peking shrimp entree had undercooked broccoli, and the rainbow chicken just didn't taste good at all. Overall a disappointing evening, and I won't bother coming back.

Crab Rangoons were really good, full of cream cheese-y goodness. They come as only four per order, but they are HUGE. Best crab rangoons we've had in quite a while (if you're going for the cream cheese-y type). The General TSO was dark, spicy (definitely ask for extra spice), not as sweet (I prefer a bit sweeter). It had a smokey scallion ginger flavor as well (different take, but it was good). My husband said this was his favorite TSO in Maryland, I just wish I could combine this spicy flavor with a bit of the sweetness from House of Fortune's TSO.

*****************BASED ON 1 VISIT****************** the entire family got sick from food poisoning including the infant girl (throwing up, chills, the runs and stomach pains) They consumed: Orange Beef Duck Chicken and Broccoli Soup (I'll update later) something else... BEWARE! Make sure all your food is cooked all the way and try to taste before chowing down.

Good cheap and juicy peking duck carved at your table! For under $30 it's definitely a steal. It comes with spring onions, duck sauce, and pancakes. The seafood combination (under chef's specials) is also tasty (and garlic-y) with plenty of scallops, fish, shrimp, and vegetables. Opens at 11:30 most days so come early to grab a table! I also believe they take phone ahead reservations for large parties.

I convinced my fame to eat at Hunan delight in olney md to eat Peking duck which we all love we were 5 adults and two 4 yr olds. It was our first time to try this place , I picked it because of good reviews ,we arrived at 12 noon and the place looked empty but later I found out they had two tables of 6 at the back room. We sat down ordered 2 Peking duck ,fried rice crispy beef crispy noodles and tofu with vegetables . They brought our food out at 1.15 pm aside the food being cold and gross the two ducks were carved in kitchen when in fact they advertise table side carving. In the meantime they had 3 waiters who wouldn't come over when we wanted to order soft drinks. While we waited for our food 3 booths of 2 to three people came in ordered ,ate and left still we had no food . I had to ask my daughter for cany as I was having a hyperglycemia attack. I told my children to just leave but they waited and gave a 15 percent tip against my wishes . They just lost a lot of potential customers since I have 5 married children and 6 grandchildren ,some with boyfriends. I'm sure they won't mind the bad review they seem not to be customer friendly. Ps in other reviews they give sherbet after the meal we had none and nobody wanted to take home the leftovers ,which is unusual for my family.

I have been coming here for many years and have always enjoyed my food. However recently on two occasions I have found hair in my food. Big turn off! If this doesn't change I will go elsewhere. When brought to management attention I was told the chefs are required to wear hairnets but don't always follow the rules. Time to fire them if they don't follow the rules. I am grossed out! I understand that sometimes things happen and the first time it happened the food was replaced. This time however it was take out! Gross!

Food is good but service is awful. Wait staff never smile, never talk, always seem like they are doing you a favor. Recent visit, the server never spoke except to say "What can I Get you"? No thank you, nothing. Before we even finished the entrees, the server brought out sorbet and a check. As you can imagine, the sorbet melted before we got to it. The managers/owners are not any more friendly.

Not much to look at. The decor is decidely dated suburban Chinese. The food, however, was impressive. Go for the Peking Duck!

The man at the counter...George I believe is his name...was extremely condescending towards me when I was just trying to order take out. I said, "Hi, I'd like to place a take out order please", and he said, "Yeah, obviously" and laughed to this other gentleman standing at the small counter. I could have been ordering a drink, picking up an order, etc. Either way, I was humiliated and didn't appreciate being mocked by someone that was supposed to be in the service profession. You would think that someone would be a bit kinder to his/her customers. Overall, the food was decent. The chicken with broccoli lacked flavor, but the steamed vegetable dumplings were pretty good. However, I don't think I will risk going back considering how I was treated by the rude employee.

The pecking duck is amazing here. The duck skin is crunchy and crisp. It is so delicious with the meat. The actual meat is soft and fatty. The only thing I really question is the cleanliness. I do wish he used gloves to cut the duck. I mean I understand some people feel it's more authentic having someone cut the duck open with their bare hands. However, in today's modern world, gloves will be nice. Also I would appreciate having the man, who cuts the duck barehanded, at least wear some sort of apron. His clothes was touching the duck from time to time when he was angling the duck to get a better grip. It just did not seem too clean when he was using his hands and his own clothes as a means of gripping and cutting the duck. I recommend their walnut shrimp. It is creamy, sweet and delicious. Their sizzling steak is a great thing to order as well. The steak is peppery and has great flavors!

Happy Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival!! Time to buy some over-priced moon cake. My family always eats at Hunan Delight to celebrate special occasions and anytime we want Chinese food. Why? THE PEKING DUCK! This is the highlight of all the entrees and for less than $30,the duck is cut into slices at your table, served with thin pancakes, scallions, and hoisin sauce. Many other dishes that have been consistently good include their pan-fried bird's nest with a heap of stir-fried seafood on top, fried shrimp with sweetened walnuts, the amazingly tasty peppered steak served on a hot plate, the fried calamari, and sesame chicken that has just the right amount of sweet sauce. Whenever we arrive at Hunan Delight, the servers are always pleasant and accommodating to our large party. We are usually seated towards the back of the restaurant which has round tables that accommodate 10 people each. The servers always brings out fresh cooked rice when they see we run out and frequently refill our waters. Service is always to par with my expectations. Great prices. Great managers! Will no doubt be back soon with my family!! Link: hunandelightmd.com

I frequently dine at Hunan as it is near my neighborhood. The food is very good and freshly prepared. They have a lot of vegetarian dishes. I especially like the spicy Mongolian hot pot (and it is bubbling hot). The service is always excellent. As a frequent diner they even have my wine choice memorized. If in Olney, stop by!

Perfect dinner for four: Sauteed Chinese broccoli with Garlic (10.50), Szechuan Crispy Fish Fillet (13.5), salt and black pepper scallop (15.95), half Peking duck (14.5) Peking duck and fish fillet were the highlights. Service was good and fast. Free scoop of ice cream at the end! Interior was nice. Definitely exceeded my expectation of what to expect in a strip mall around the area. My parents were happy with the overall experience and the reasonable prices so I'm happy. Yay for discovering more authentic Chinese restaurants in the area. Thanks Norman H for the suggestion!

We usually get food from this restaurant. It was disgusting tonight. The soup didn't have any taste. The dumplings tasted like the meat went bad. The shrimp rolls were all grease. I was disappointed!

Disclaimer: This rating is only for the Peking duck. I have to admit I would never have walked into this place if it hadn't been for a recommendation from a friend who told me I needed to go here for duck... and only duck. Walking in on a busy-for-the-suburbs Saturday night, I was skeptical. I normally do not frequent Asian establishments if I am an the only Asian patron in sight. After we sat down, I nearly had a minor heart attack when I saw the giant pu pu platter and frozen cocktails with umbrellas come out for the table next to us. I was wondering why we didn't just eat in Rockville... This was either going to be a hidden gem or a huge disaster. We ordered an entire duck- because... why not? It was only $28. When it came, complete with perfectly thin pancakes, a giant platter of green onions, and savory hoisin sauce, I thought- ok this looks promising. When I took a bite, I knew I had found the best Peking duck in MD. I'm not sure if anything else on the menu is worth eating, but I don't particularly care. I just want the duck anyways :) So for all you Chinese food loving city folk, this place is worth a drive to nom the duck. You'll be happy with the price, lack of wait, and obviously, taste.

A family favorite, I've been coming to Hunan Delight for years. Been here on weekdays and weekends, the place is always full by 6pm (we usually eat early and try going around 5:30 to beat the crowd). Great and fast service. We always order the peking duck which is delicious. Served with hot pancakes, scallions, sauce, and jalapeños, the duck is cut right at your table and served fresh. The skin is crispy and delicious and the inside is seasoned perfectly. For less than $30 compared to some insanely high priced peking duck places in the area, it doesn't get any better. We usually order a couple side dishes too, and alternate between the Chinese broccoli, General Tso's chicken, or beef and broccoli. All are good for the price range, and are served with white rice. The waiters are all friendly and accommodating. They serve a sorbet-like ice cream to finish off the meal and always end with fortune cookies. Forever a loyal customer!

Service is usually very promt. Clean, courteous staff. Will take reservations and accommodates large parties. There's something for everyone on the extensive menu. A favorite of many in Olney and the surrounding area. They have been in business a long time. Live dangerously and mix it up.

The Peking Duck is very tasty here at Hunan Delight. They carved it right at your table. It comes with rice, scallions, pancakes and plum sauce. The server was very nice and let us take the fried wontons home. At the end of your meal you get a small bowl of rainbow sherbet which is a great ending to a delicious meal. I recommend you go before 6p. It's less crowded at that time and we went on a Saturday.

**I'll preface this with the fact that I've been going to Hunan Delight since I was in a carseat, back when they were a smaller hole-in-the-wall restaurant a few shops down from where they are now. And my parents and grandparents have known the owner since he was an employee at another restaurant in MD, many years ago.** That being said: the food is authentic, the waiters and waitresses - while probably at first a bit standoffish - are super friendly and will remember you when you come back in, the place is almost always busy on weekend nights but you'll always quickly get a seat, and have I mentioned yet how fantastic their food is? We come here generally as a family of 10-12 for birthdays, New Years, and any other "communal" holiday, and here's what we normally get (and you should, too!) Soup: -Chicken and Mushroom (slightly salty, delicious broth) -Family also says the Hot and Sour is good, but I always go with the former. Appetizers: -Crab Rangoon - lots of filling, nicely crisped and not under-done -Shrimp Rolls - my family adores these, but I prefer: -Shrimp Toast - I've never seen it cut this way anywhere else. There's not a lot of extra breading, and there's a ton of shrimp in the middle -Pan-Fried Dumplings - Need I say more? Duck: Order it. Peking Duck. Even if you're nervous and haven't ever had it, just give it a try. You can do a 1/2 duck or a whole duck (a 1/2 fed my dad and I when we were there a few nights ago). Frank normally cuts the duck, and he's a master at it - you won't see much fat at all, and it's great with hoisen sauce and some spring onions, with a little bit of salt ;) Entree favorites: -Chef's Shrimp: breaded, fried shrimp in a garlic-y, ginger-y sauce. Not great re-heated but SUPERB in the restaurant. My favorite. -Mongolian HotPot (Seafood): default is a little spicy for me, so I get mind a little less spicy. -Crispy Whole Fish - again, the family loves it -Pan Fried Noodles - crispy on the outer edge, nicely sauced in the middle...yum *really, everything here is pretty good. We don't get a lot of the breaded/fried stuff, so I don't have much of an input on that, but give something other than "General Tso's Chicken" a try sometime - you will be pleasantly surprised you branched out.* Drinks: Zombie. Just limit yourself to like...2.

Best Chinese place in Olney by far, my parents and I have been eating here for many years. We usually get carry out, but occasionally well dine in. The staff has always been friendly to me, it has a nicer area to dine-in than most of the others in town. I usually end up drinking a whole teapot of green tea (I love it). Their lunch special is a good value too. I'd recommend their Hunan chicken, it's my favorite.

We came all the way to try the Peking Duck after hearing and reading so many good reviews. We were hugely disappointed when the duck came out dry and cold. We'd even waited 15 mins for it to be cooked. I suspected the duck was not made on the same day but was from last night and reheated. How do I know of this you may ask? Because the table next to us also waited for 30 mins or so and their duck came out with smoke coming out of it and skin color looked just like it came right out of oven. The only good thing about this place is duck is reasonably priced for $30 and they will refill duck pancakes for free. I know other places charge extra for refills. We complained to the waitress about the duck and asked to see the manager. She said manager was too busy taking care of carryout so had no time to stop by our table. If we wanted to talk, we'd have to go to see him and wait for his spare time??? Also their typical Chinese dishes are just ok not fantastic when compared to other places. It was our first time there and maybe it was just bad luck that day but I don't believe a restaurant known of its best selling dish on the menu can be so inconsistent in its cooking.

I love this place, actually good chinese food, which is hard to say now a days. Food: Very good, they have a great large selection. They have chicken & fries, and wings so yeah lol incase you have a child or an adult kid that only eats "normal" food" :) also free ice cream when you're done!!! Favorites: Fried Dumplings, delicious! Broccoli chicken and steamed rice! Great Egg Drop Soup!! One of the bests. :) Customer Service: Uhm....lol idk I'm a regular and always order so they love me but trust me when I say that they love me, it just means they remember me, and on rare occasions smile, and ever rarer they make jokes, which is awesome, it makes me feel special. But its not that they are rude or, well the thing is that i don't think they mean to be, they just don't know they may be coming off rude, so I wouldn't take anything personal, they're just not good communicators lol They have a thick accent and always in a rush, thats just them i guess, but basically i think its worth going through to get to the food. I would definitely recommend coming to eat here! :)

I usually go to lunch with my coworkers here. The cost is good for the portions they give you. I wouldn't say the quality of the food is the best but it is worth it for the portions and the free ice cream they gave us at the end of the meal.

Peking duck and crab rangoon are fantastic! Order the lunch specials before 3 on the weekends- they really are the best deal. Service is fine for dine-in, for carry-out you better have your order ready to go when you call in. Strip-mall ambience on the outside, but inside it looks like a traditional Chinese restaurant.

**NOTE: Contrary to some misguided opinions posted here, the food is not greasy/slimy/oily/stinky/funky/gross. I've had greasy/slimy/oily/stinky/funky/gross Chinese dishes before, the kind of fare that destroys mornings and makes you late for work, and they are not Hunan Delight's brethren.** Now. Onto the review. In the midst of a bevy of quadruple and quintuple stars, it seems as if someone put a spur up some people's butts and forced their brains to concoct some less than equitable reviews. I don't know where those guys get their Chinese food, but all I know is that this place is not as bad as they make it out to be. I came here most recently (the 1st visit being several years back) about a week ago with my extended family. We had 17 diners, and we were ushered into the private back room, which was nice. The restaurant itself is decently large and the waitstaff was pleasant/attentive. We ordered a variety of dishes ranging from the seafood with sizzling rice soup to the whole Peking duck to the crispy whole fish (rock fish) hunan style, and none of the entrees disappointed. The portions were sizable and the food was prepared quickly. We even had a vegetarian in our midst, and she seemed quite content with the vegetable soup and the moo shu pork minus the pork (All you have to do is ask them to take the pork out and they'll happily acquiesce). I was particularly impressed with the Peking duck and the crispy whole fish, and I recommend both of these dishes to any patron who finds his or her way to Hunan Delight. Granted, I have never traveled to China and am not Chinese, but I did live in Southern California for more than a jaunt and sampled the ubiquitous Chinese cuisine there quite often. The Peking duck, while costly at $24.95, was delicately hand-carved by one of the waiters in front of our tables and had a deliciously crispy skin. The duck comes with 12 pancakes (essentially tortillas), spring onions, and sweet bean sauce. Even though it's just a bird in a bun, there's just something deeply gratifying about the combination of it all. The rock fish comes on a huge plate as a whole fish, head and all, and is smothered with a flavorful dark sauce. The fish itself has a crispy skin, and since it's a rock fish, has enough white, flaky meat on it to make it worth your while. So why not the five stars? Well, the food was good and the service was nice, but it is still yet another Chinese American restaurant. That extra star is reserved for something novel and extraordinary :) So guess what? I'll be going back to Hunan Delight in... 45 minutes with some family and family friends. I'm excited to go back, and I'll be sure to update this if I encounter anything less than my previous experience. **Edit 3/22/12** So after returning here, I uphold all of my previous comments. Everything was just as good as my last visit! Consistency is good, right? :)

Came here after it was recommended by a friend, and I would definitely recommend it to someone else. The food was very good and the service fast. I liked how they had a plate of those friend noodles already on the table as a beginning appetizer, it gave me something to munch on while looking through the very big menu. Not only did they have a ton of options but then they showed the low calorie dishes as well. The best part was probably the little bit of sorbet they gave at the end as a surprise, it was a nice treat! The restaurant itself was very clean and organized.

I have been coming to Hunan Delight for over 25 years. My favorite dish there is the General Tso's chicken, ever since I was a little. HD has gone through changes over the years, including improvement in the quality of their food. They used to be an ok Chinese restaurant years ago where you can count on solid food, but now they have upgraded to excellence. They've also expanded due to their popularity. I ordered duck for the first time recently and I was pleasantly surprised. The carver was extremely adept at carving the skin so there was no fat on it. The meat was tender and popped that duck flavor in your mouth, and the skin was the right crisp where you get the 'just-right' oozing of fat in your mouth as you chew. I would recommend this to anyone, and I 2nd Jany Y's review.

The food is excellent with subtle seasonings. Would give 4 stars but luncheon service was so disorganized and inattentive I could not do it. We were greeted and seated but it was downhill from there. At one point there were more employees than customers, yet I had to get up and interrupt the servers' lunch table to get our check and boxes. Waitresses never smile and reflect the gloomy interior. Kudos to the chef...but he needs some support from the staff.

The 2nd star is really only for how decent the food is I won't go back because of how horrible and rude their service is, which is a disappointment since it's maybe the best Chinese food in Olney proper very rude on the phone when I have called a few times, and once forgot a whole entree at take-out

Review: This review is solely for the peking duck. I've personally ordered at least a dozen ducks and not one was a bust (not to mention all the other times when other people paid). Delicious. Succulent. Tender. I've tried duck at other Chinese establishments and I cringe because none of it ever compares to the peking duck at Hunan Delight. If you get this dish to go, you will get two round containers. One will have the meat and the other will have the skin and bones. There will be a small box of green onions that are always amazingly fresh. Lastly, you will get a hoisin sauce that is out of this world and a stack of Asian tortillas to wrap up all of this goodness. Cost: $25 for a full duck. Service: I've only eaten here a handful of times but the waitresses are all lifers (same ones are there every time). Service is quick and cheery. Don't expect a Morton's level of service at a Chinese restaurant. If you eat the duck in the restaurant, a guy will come out and cut it up right in front of you. Nice touch. I mostly get my duck to go and they always say it will be ready in 15-20 mins and it is always ready in 25-35 mins. Note: They have crispy fried wontons that are addicting. Call ahead to order your duck and give them 35-45 mins if you want a quick in and out transaction.

I was introduced to this restaurant by my parents. It is located in a shopping center in Olney and as I stepped into the restaurant and took in the decor, I groaned silently: not another cheap, mediocre Chinese restaurant! But, boy was I wrong. Granted, the rest of their entrees are average, but their Peking Duck is truly remarkable. The extra twist is that they don't serve their entree as most restaurants do, a platter of pre-carved duck meat and a stack of pancakes. Instead, the owner typically brings out the whole (or half) duck, and adroitly and quickly carves the slices. The meat was very tender and juicy and the skin, crispy and tasty. My mouth is watering even as I am writing this. I'm giving this restaurant five stars because the duck, despite its decor, despite its hard-to-find, out-of-the-way location.

After moving to NC from DC, I really miss peking duck. I can't find it ANYWHERE!!! When I think of Peking Duck, I think of this one time I was visiting my uncle in Beijing, China. The chef came out and carved the duck in front of it. The skin was crispy, the meat was tender and juicy. The home-made pancakes were superb and light. You can't beat it. But you are reading this b/c you are not in freaking beijing, you are in maryland. Hunan Delight is one of places I go to for Peking Duck. The duck is made daily and you have to call ahead for it. The skin is crispy and meat is juicy. Just what a peking duck should be, there are no lingering fats under the skin. I effing hate it when restaurants call their roasted duck - peking duck. Hunan delight isn't one of them. It comes with the usual condiments - plum sauce, pancakes, and scallions. *drooooool. Their other foods that I have had are also great. This place has really delicious authentic chinese food. If you come here, order some real stuff. Ask the waiter for suggestions, they are pretty friendly. *sigh. I miss maryland.

As a chinese person who has worked in family owned chinese restaurants since I was young, I have to say this place is legit. I've tried a lot of peking duck during my life time, and Hunan Delight's Peking Duck is definitely my #1 seed. The peking duck is like the washington capitals (not this year), except it won't fail you in the playoffs. The skin is crisp but not dry and the meat is tender. The other dishes I've had in the past were really good too. TBH, I don't remember anything being greasy. Trust me, I know greasy.

I eat here for lunch about once a month. The lunch specials are excellent, great value and delicious food. But, the mediocre service and the outdated interior make it a place that I wouldn't want to bring my friends or family. Great for carry out. Suggestion for owner, watch "Restaurant Impossible" with regards to the interior and service.

The food is good but the wait times for takeout are getting ridiculous. Placed and order at 5:20 tonight now it's 6:45 and I am still waiting. I've said this is the last time I am coming back. This time I mean it. I would rather drive 15 minutes to get to a place out side of olney at this point then wait in line like cattle for them to scream out your name that the food is ready over a hour and a half after its ordered.

  • Joan K.

This place strikes a great balance between pleasing the American palate and loyalty to authentic Chinese cuisine. So ok, most of the faces in here are Caucasian, and most of the dishes are of the normal takeout variety....but they do a much much better job that your run-of-the-milldingy takeout place down the street. My family used to live in Olney and frequented this place often. We no longer live in Olney, but go back quite regularly. The owner has always been incredibly friendly. It's one of those restaurants that gives you that homey, comfortable, family-like feel. We always get the sizzling rice/seafood soup which while strangely gelatinous, is very very good! Since it's a bit of a hassle for us to get to the Peking Gourmet Inn regularly, this place is a decent fill-in when you're craving. Plus, where else can you ever get free sorbet for dessert?!

The food is pretty good here. The staff members are OK for a chinese restaurant. I know asian restaurants are not known for their friendly service but the front desk guy has a good sense of humor and their waitresses are always the same! I don't think they ever take a break! The peking duck here is pretty damn good. Don't go for their general tso because its reallly reallly salty. I recommend their sesame chicken and the chefs spicy crispy shrimp. SO GOOD!

This restaurant is host to great, seemingly authentic Chinese cuisine. I have been here on many occasions, and have only once been dissatisfied (and that was before they re-did their menu several years ago). The service is great, aside from some of the waitresses being so authentically Chinese that their accents are thicker than molasses. The pu pu platter is excellent. At the end of your meal, the waiter or waitress even brings you a complimentary bowl of rainbow sorbet.

There are 5+ Chinese restaurants in Olney. This place is the best in terms of food. The decor/environment is lacking, but, WTH... During the season if you can get them, the fried soft shelled crabs are just incredible. They use a garlic scallion batter that is deep fried. Probably not the healthiest but very tasty...

I would just like to say, for all you spicy lovers. If you like soup, then you should get hot and sour soup then ask the waitress (or waiter) if you could get some hot sauce. It's not actual sauce, it's sort of a spicy adder.

pretty good food. our go to place for family dinners. only thing that bugs me is that they dont take orders in advance and during busy time they tend to just give you an extended small table so its a bit crowded when you have a big group. but everything else is pretty good. dont forget to try the duck! also like how they show football games at the small bar in the corner so when i get dragged to family dinners i can watch football. wish they would get wifi though

This used to be my favorite Chinese restaurant in Olney. I usually order takeout and the last two times the food has been mediocre at best. I understand havng the occasional "off" night but two times. It was probaly a month between the visits. The rice appeared to be a day or two old as it was harder than usual and not very flavorful. The kung pao chicken was also the same. This is unfortunate as this was my go to place for Chinese food. Not sure if it is different when dining in. I do like the sorbet when dining in.

Started dining here more frequently once my regular spot (Fantasy Gourmet) closed a few years ago. The manager is curt at best but he does his job well, get my food ordered and hurry up the carryout line. As far as food choices anything Hunan (duh) and pepper beef is my personal favorite. If they could just do fried rice perfectly I'd be looking a lot like that Buddha figurine, fat and happy.

I don't know why they put 2-$ sign... It's quite cheap there, but food is really good...I am now having the mandarin lo mein and it's so good, I am already planning the next time I'll order this lo mein again. Their food is not as greasy and salty as some authentic chinese restaurant.

Gotten sick a few times after eating here --- never settles well with me. The chicken (what little there is of it) is so fried and breaded on the sesame chicken that you feel more like you are eating syrupy donuts than a dinner dish. I choose Mee Shane for Olney area Chinese. Would love to give this a better review but I have been consistently disappointed with Hunan Delight :( Husband LOVES it though!

Honestly, I think this place used to be a lot better. The food's really greasy and slimy, and if you're a vegetarian you can just forget about it. The Vegetarian hot pot is good, but it's gross as take out or as leftover. The egg drop soup is gross too. The wonton soup and Moo-Goo Gai Pan (spelling?) are both pretty decent, so are the crunchy noodles and tea they serve. The free sorbet they bring you at the end if you dine in is really good. Overall, it's better than China Harvest, but I usually avoid going here.

BEWARE! Make sure all your food is cooked all the way and try to taste before chowing down.

Gross!

Not much to look at. The decor is decidely dated suburban Chinese. The food, however, was impressive. Go for the Peking Duck!

  • H P.

SO GOOD!

i was a regular here and recommended this place to tons of people, but things changed. we went with a group of 10 and we ordered our food and everything was fine.

    (3)
  • Patrick S.

The 2nd star is really only for how decent the food is I won't go back because of how horrible and rude their service is, which is a disappointment since it's maybe the best Chinese food in Olney proper very rude on the phone when I have called a few times, and once forgot a whole entree at take-out

  • Melbourne B.

There are several Chinese places to eat in Olney. Hunan Delight is by far the best in the area. My only complaint is some of the staff has a hard time with English. The food is very good though

Delightful! Good food & service. Big portions at reasonable prices, and nice little extra touches like tea and dessert. Always traveling far from home, nice to happen on a pleasent resturant like this!

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.
