It's not the best sushi I've had but I would come back here. My main criticism is that the rice is not particularly good. It's also not made or packed well. Too often, the rice would fall apart with just the slightest touch of the chopstick. The miso soup was normal and good. I ordered the sushi lunch which gave me a tuna roll and six pieces of assorted sushi. It was pretty tasty, minus what I said about the rice. Other than that, it's a clean restaurant with a responsive staff. The tables are made for groups no larger than five people.

The best sushi place in this area and you got very friendly services too ! Try this place ,you will like it ! When they use the salmon fish fillets for sushi ,this place cut you a big pcs (one inches thick ) they are not cheap you can tell !

Very cute and quaint location. I found the service to be speedy, attentive, and pleasant. I've thoroughly enjoyed every sushi roll I tried and would recommend this place.

I used to frequent this place often. It used to be THE best sushi within a 15 mile radius (for a point of reference my go to is Rainbow Roll). I haven't seen the previous owner in awhile, so my guess is she no longer operates the establishment. I've tried to continue to support the business but after receiving spoiled fish, fish with skin still on it and the final straw was biting down on some sort of glass or clear plastic on all separate occasions I can't support them any longer. It's a shame, they used to take great care in producing top notch cuisine.

I've been here many times over the past few years living in the area, but lately the quality of the sushi has gone downhill significantly. Two of the last three times the spicy tuna has smelled less than fresh, and it made me extremely sick last night. I've heard similar complaints from friends as well. I almost feel bad leaving this, since the employees are always so nice, and they are the reason for two stars instead of one. Will not be going back here, even though it's the only sushi place within walking distance of me.

Not the best. But not extremely bad either. Fish was fresh. I like that they bring out hot towels first thing as you being seated. They got a cool seating section where you have to remove your shoes & be seated. Hot sake is good. Green hot tea was yummy. Sushi platter is enough for 2 people. Next time we will try something different. Beside sushi. See how it taste ..

We've found our go-to local sushi place. It's small and quiet... looks like a carry out type of place, but actually quite an inviting Japanese atmosphere inside. The food was delicious, from beginning to end. We tried 4 different rolls and a tempura appetizer... all terrific. The service was courteous without hovering. Great place, great experience!

I started coming to Hana about three years ago. Given the location, and the lack of local choices (especially then), I was happy to have found it. While I agree generally with some of the comments already here about their sushi, I can't really recommend this place any longer. I'll briefly list my issues: 1. Prices. They have increased a lot since I first started eating there. The prices rival high-quality downtown DC sushi bars without meeting the quality of their food, ambiance, location, etc. There was a period of several months last year where I would be the only person in the place. I think they reacted to slow sales - incorrectly, in my opinion - by raising prices. This is a common mistake made by struggling restaurants, and it has turned me off to Hana. An appetizer, 4-6 pieces of sushi, 2 or 3 maki rolls, and a beer or two, and it's up to $50 or more. For one person. I go there rarely now, mostly because of this issue. 2. Service. I agree that their sit-down service is good. Their takeout service is horrible. Even when they're not busy, they are never even close to estimating how long it will take to prepare the order. I have had instances of being told "15-20 minutes" - and then a part of the order is ready within 10 minutes, but I have to wait 45 minutes more for the rest - the whole time, standing there, being told "5-10 more minutes!" Not a good combination with raw seafood involved. 3. Kitchen. I like Hana's sushi. It's not the best, not even in the DC area. But it's fresh, it's good quality, and occasionally inventive. Their kitchen, however, is virtually worthless, other than several appetizers. I have had really bad experiences with entrees, from overcooked katsu to rubbery beef to dry-as-a-bone chicken. The kitchen presentations are often significantly different from the sushi bar, with under- or over-cooked broccoli and jagged-edged hard carrots as the most inventive accompaniments. And don't even think about fish; you'd think that a restaurant that offers good sushi would know how to handle seafood and fish entrees, but they don't. They don't even get tempura correct; in fact, anything fried is very poor (you need a few napkins to drain the harumaki). And there's frequently this really bad burnt-oil smell emanating from the kitchen, which ruins my appetite. 4. Atmosphere. There's really only one complaint I have in this department: people who sit at the low tables and get really, really loud. Obnoxiously loud. Too-much-Kirin loud. And management doesn't do anything about it. This has happened to me on at least six occasions, and even if I ask, I get this polite, sort of helpless shrug. Granted, I got used to being alone in the place, so any kind of noise can be disturbing. But I'm talking about a level that shouldn't be tolerated by any restaurant, but is. When it gets packed with people, the noise level can get out of hand (hence my tendency for take-out), but that's to be expected in a crowded restaurant, and no one group can be blamed. I'm talking about a different experience, when it's clear people are out for an evening and don't care who they bother. It seems they're more important to the owners than individual patrons. 5. Authenticity. I include this less because it bothers me, and more because other reviewers have mentioned it. Other than the sushi and a few well-prepared appetizers, this isn't "authentic" Japanese. It's close to what has become known as "Japanese" in the States. Like so many other places, especially outside a large city, it has adapted to the tastes of people who don't fully know or like Japanese cuisine. Between the prices, the great lack of choices in non-sushi items, the noise, and the not-an-option takeout, I doubt I'll be back. Which is unfortunate, as it's my closest sushi location by an order of magnitude (I can walk there in about 4 mins). I'm disappointed. I really want to support local businesses, especially the few that serve my favorite foods. But not Hana, not anymore.

Bottom line: Delicious and affordable with terrific service. I'm pretty sure their motto is: Clean hands and happy stomachs can't lose. After all the positive reviews from fellow Yelpers, my wife and I decided to try Hana last night. We both had a three roll sushi combo and were not disappointed. I tried the spicy tuna, the crunchy salmon, and a rock n' roll. My wife had a California roll, an avocado roll, and a dragon roll. While the dragon roll was delicious, it tasted nothing like dragon. The combos both came with a salad that had just the right amount of a sesame based dressing. Had I been at home, I probably would have licked up the dressing. Our rolls arrived promptly, and even though one of them was incorrect, our server Briana quickly remedied the situation and comped the error. All of the fish was fresh and flavorful. The atmosphere was quiet and inviting without being pretentious. I'll be back for dinner and would love to try them for lunch.

Really needs to be 3.5 stars, but, for some reason known only to the Yelp gods, you can't give half a star. Bummer. Having lived in Japan for a grand total of 4 years, I have had some experience in Japanese culture and food. I am a big fan of both. I'm sort of a fan of Hana. We ate from the entree menu, passing the sushi bar this time. The dishes we ordered were okay, especially the gyoza (best dumplings around) and the tuna tataki. If you're going for noodles, I recommend the yaki soba over the yaki udon. The udon are a bit too oily for my taste. Besides, I've always loved the buckwheat noodles. The servers seem to want you to eat and get out. I guess I can understand why: the place is very small and very popular. We were likely spoiled in Japan, where they cater to your every need, never rush you, and serve authentic Japanese fare. Imagine that! Give Hana a try in you're in the area. The food is good (if not great), and the flavors approach authentic. And if you visit Japan, stay away from American restaurants. They don't know anything about chicken fried or loaf-shaped meats, and you'll starve trying to locate corn on the cob. The Kobe steak is pretty good, though, if you're on an expense account. But, then again, Kobe beef is not really American, is it?!

I really like this place and have come here many times. I only deducted a star because the service can be kind of slow. And their tap water, tastes really bad. Like BAD. They are imaginative with sushi rolls (daily specials are posted on a board at the entry) and generous with the meat when just getting plain slices of fish. The fish never has a weird taste. Staff is friendly. The dining (table) area is kind if small so it can get real packed. But they also have the sunken bench style as well (wear shoes/socks you dont mind taking off). Overall I'm a frequent/repeat customer. This is the best sushi in the area (odenton, severn, ft meade, havover...probably gambrills and laurel too).

I think of this as one of my own special spots, but it's catching on fast in the community that this place is great. I tend to sparingly give 5 stars, but this place is close. I'll give it a 4.5!! Hana turned me back onto sushi after not eating it for years. First. I'd like to thank my coworker, David, who inspired me to try sushi again after I had lost hope. Next, without the support of my loving husband, Richie, we might never have made the trip to Hana, so thank you, honey. Finally, I'd like to thank Hana for making Sushi addiction fashionable and acceptable - without you, this would never have been possible. Oh, and I'd like to give a quick shout out to my mom, "Hi Mom!! Wait 'til you see me now!!" Really good sushi here. Really. I first came in and ordered some California rolls to go. The next time, I ordered a bento box to go. Before I knew it, I was eating quick meals at the bar. At the final stages of my disorder, we have brought our sushi-loving friends here and we have enjoyed great food together and ran up a high bill by trying everything. When I want some quick sushi to go - I immediately think of this place. I really do love their food. The fish is fresh and their chefs make new specialty rolls and if you sit at the sushi bar, they make stuff for you to try. I think that's what really got me hooked. A young chef made this awesome tuna tar tare rolled in panko bread crumbs and gave it to us as a complimentary side-dish. My husband ate it as well and at that point he didn't do raw. Now he does. Great place; give it a try. They also have some cool seating - at the sushi bar, at a regular table or at an in-ground table. You can sit on the floor and hang your legs down into the floor opening. Very cool and the decor is modern Japanese.

I came here for a friend for dinner one afternoon. We arrived shortly after 4:30, when the restaurant opens for dinner, and noted that the door was locked. A few minutes later, the door is unlocked and we're invited inside. Service was a bit confusing. We were left with a sheet of paper where we could order specific quantities/pieces of rolls. Neither one of us was interested in doing that though, instead opting to get dinner roll combos. It turns out that this isn't actually a problem though - a server came by and took our order directly. The sushi itself was excellent. We ordered the shrimp tempura, tuna avocado, salmon skin, eel avocado, chef's, and titanic rolls. All of the ingredients were fresh - overall everything was nicely done. If I return to MD and am craving sushi, I will definitely return here. This restaurant has some of the best sushi that I've tasted on the east coast.

I love the fact that you take off your shoes put them in a box and sit at a low table on a mat, it really is a Japanese experience. Their menu is very authentic Japanese but, has cooked entrees for your friend that is "scared" to try new foods. Their fish entrees are really good. I try something new everytime. The art of food presentation is top noch and the service is excellent.

The atmosphere is simple and understated but that is in no way a reflection of the food! We ordered the Dragonfly roll, American Dream roll and the Crunchy Spicy Tuna roll and they were all amazing. The jalapeño in the Dragonfly roll was not overpowering at all. It offered just the right amount of heat. The refreshing mango in the American Dream was also a perfect match to the spicy tuna and spicy salmon also in the roll. So glad to have found this place. Will definitely be back!

EXTREMELY disappointed in the "octopus" salad. $5.50 for a large pile of cucumbers and barely any octopus which smells awful. Actual sushi rolls were decent, but I will not be ordering from here in the future.

Not impressed. They have descriptions of only their specialty rolls. The other pages only list the name.... But we have found no consistency a "boston roll" is different in mnt Airy. Different in Millersville, or at the Q. Fifty dollars for two of us. We had four rolls, one of the last two had rotten fish smell... By that point we were already over it and ready to admit our mistake

I have been a customer since 2008. The sushi is consistently fresh and the lunch specials are a great value. My favorites are the spicy tuna, yellow tail, vegetable fried rice salmon bento box. The tuna tartare and tuna tataki are awesome. Inside seating is somewhat limited takeout is reliably correct.

A+ THIS PLACE IS GREAT! See the pix I took. It's in a strip mall which throws you off a bit, but we found it on Yelp so decided to try it. We actually drove a good 25 mins to get to it and glad we did! As we were walking in there was a guy walking out with 'take-out" and we asked him how it was, he promptly replied 'It's the best in this area by far, I always come here!" So we walked right in. They do have the cute little tables where you take your shoes off and essentially sit on the floor, but there were 5 of us and a baby so that wasn't going to work for us. They sat us in the back, which was a great idea, b/c we got into the Sake and can get a little loud from time to time. We all enjoyed our food! My friend RAVED about their fatty tuna and fatty salmon, she literally said it was the best sushi/sashimi she's ever eaten. I ordered the soup which was just HUGE, it came with a salad, which I would've liked more lettuce, but it was tasty enough. They have an amazing plate presence that they create [aka plating] for a restaurant that is in a strip mall. We were all very impressed with the presentation. Everything was fresh, tasty, and priced right. You can get a 3 roll dinner special w/ a salad or soup for $20.95 which is just amazing to me. For 5 of us with 2 big bottles of sake our bill was right around $145 + tip. We were the last table in the place at around 9 pm on a Saturday night, so go more on the early side.

Did I mention this place... STAR.. STAR From the hostess to the chefs. All I can say is I took a seat at the sushi bar. The HOSTESS brought me a warm towel to wipe the ugliness of outside off, LOL One of the guys preparing sushi offered me a fresh scallion and I dunno.. mackerel?? appetizer.. just because.. OMGoodness.. Just a pleasant experience hands down. Moving from the DC and the many options, I must say I was so.. so.. surprised.. Thanks Hana. :)

Been here roughly 20 times and I have never been disappointed in fish quality. Everything is always the right color, consistency and taste which is very important when it comes to eating something like chirashi. Their kitchen food is also good, not the best Japanese cuisine I've ever had but everything I have gotten from the kitchen ( chicken teriyaki, beef negimaki, gyoza ) has been more than edible and quite decent. Just not excellent. Due to how close it is to me and so far it being the best reasonably priced sushi bar with great fish I've found in the area Hana has my business!

My favorite place! Their vegetarian sushi is very good and they have many options (different kinds of mushrooms, guards, tofu, avocado, fermented radish, tempura sweet potato, veggies, sprouts etc). They are very generous with sushi fillings/ toppings. They also have other vegetarian non sushi items but I haven't tried those. Service is EXCELLENT. They have a traditional sitting area that you can choose to sit at (shoe free, pillow on floor etc). Their hot Sake is yummy.

My family and I are new to the area and decided to try this place based on the reviews. Boy were we disappointed! Service started fine we got our drinks quickly and ordered miso soup to start our meal. It was the worst miso soup I've ever had. Our 3 yr old LOVES miso soup and she took one sip and spit it out. She wouldn't touch it after that. It tasted foul! We ordered some sushi and shrimp soba noodles for our daughter. The sushi was okay except for the fact that it kept falling apart! The noodles were horrible. They tasted strange and the shrimp was so over cooked it was inedible. We had ordered ice tea to drink and was never given a single refill. I don't know if it was a bad night or what but we will not be returning. There was only one other sushi place we had tried since moving here and we will stick to that one even though it is 20 minutes further away.

I LOVE this place. I only got for lunch as their dinner menu is high. The sushi is always great. I almost always get the Tofu Steak Teriyaki lunch box (no steak is actually in it). It comes with a California Roll, miso soup (or a pathetic iceberg salad), 2 pieces of shumai, and some fried veggies. Oh and a small bowl of rice. All that for $9 (this includes tax). Very tasty, good service, and consistently good meals. It is amazing. The atmosphere is great. They have a section where you can sit on the floor and your feet dangle. It's very nice.

I love this place! I've eaten at some of the best sushi places around and this one is a gem. I was thrilled to find it right down the road from where I live. They have some creative rolls and fish is fresh. They're not always great at estimating how long carry out will take so pad what they tell you by 5 or 10 minutes unless you don't mind waiting. I think I just decided what I'm eating for dinner.

The sushi quality here is superb. For the non-sushi diner their full menu of japanese cuisine is varied and delicious. Pricing is comparable with other Japanese restaurants. Highly recommend the sashimi.

I love this place. Every time I have friends in town, I take them here. It's SUPER convenient to where I live, and always provides a cozy atmosphere. Also, if you go on a slower night and sit at the sushi bar, sometimes you get a free salmon skin appetizer by the sushi chef! I LOVE the salmon here. It's super fresh...and my uncle who lives in college park will come all the way up to Odenton to eat the salmon :) A couple times I've gotten fish that was still kinda frozen, which was a bummer. And a couple times I've had some sort of whitish sashimi that had a very earthy flavor...but I think that is a lot of the type of fish. I love the fact that I can get a mushroom soup instead of miso, and that there is always a unique plating that accompanies the food. I find that the tempura is a little heavy on the panko. At least for the shrimp. That's a personal preference, for I know some people love it! The fried ice cream is pretty epic. Not gonna lie. The Udon is delicious and the bento boxes offer a lovely variety! Only once have I been less than impressed...but that may have had to do with the fact that there were many people there and they were kinda slammed. But my boyfriend who was with me at the time really enjoyed his dish, so the night was still a culinary success, regardless! But I need to add that I've been here A LOT.

We strolled in for a Saturday night dinner and were promptly seated and asked for our drink orders. The promptness extended throughout the whole meal to the point of feeling very rushed by the wait staff. Plates were removed before all the food was eaten or right as the last piece was consumed. Menus were swooped up after ordering appetizers. I had to ask the server to leave one behind so we could order entrees. She brought our check without asking if we wanted another round of drinks, which we did. The food was unremarkable. It was fresh and served as quickly as it was taken away. I won't go back. The pushiness of the staff was not ok and there are other options for sushi in the area

Terrible service and crappy place. Had to wait forever to get our food. Sushi "chefs" got everyone's order wrong. Our waitress didn't say anything to him just placed another order which meant I had to wait. Sushi was crap and made me sick. Terrible portions and most definitely not worth the money. It was a huge rip off. The tables are never clean and always wobbly. I don't recommend this place. The only reason why this place is open is because of the people who live in piney orchard and don't know any better.

My first full day back in the states and I knew the first thing I wanted to eat...SUSHI! Since living in Germany, sushi is a 6 hour drive so I never got it that much. Since I was moving to Maryland, I knew I was going to get some good sushi! I got over the jet lag and got ready to eat some sushi. The place was not that busy which surprised me due to the reviews. My sons were concerned about what they were going to eat and so was I since they have such different food preferences. Luckily we went online to check out the menu. My youngest picked the grilled salmon with teriyaki sauce and my oldest the fried squid. I had the sushi and sashimi deluxe while the husband had the dinner bento box with chicken. Sushi was delicious and big! Salmon was delicious and the scallop was perfect. My youngest grilled salmon was delicious he ate the whole think. My oldest liked his squid but will order the grilled calamari next time. All in all for our first official dinner back in the states, it was great. I was very satisfied and will go back.

Stopped in for some lunch to go. I got the lunch special, two rolls + miso soup, then I added an order of edamame. The man at the front was very friendly and the food was really very quickly. My spicy tun roll was good, but not the best I've had. The salmon avacado was refreshing. All of the meat was fresh and the rice was sticky. Edamame was a little soggy but that may have been due to the longer ride back to my office in Fort Meade. I give it four stars instead of three because for the area, I can't expect too much. I would definitely go back for lunch since its one of the only places near my office to get decent sushi.

Ate the lunch special with pick 3 -rolls ( Hey! I was sharing, okay?) and it included a soup. It was a great deal with friendly service. Another table had ordered the special rolls, and they looked bigger than the lunch special rolls. It was fresh tasting and the decor was nice. The women's restroom seemed to be occupied for a long while, so I had to use the guys restroom. eww.. guys, really? haha, eww. The waitress was constantly refilling a big cup of hot tea for me. Yum! thanks!

The Sashimi slices are HUGE! And not only were they huge but they were VERY fresh. The Seaweed salad portions were large and the Edamamae was fresh. I had the Hana Magnum Roll which was really a souped up Shrimp Tempura roll with avocados. It was a pretty good size roll, enough to be a meal in itself. But the roll didn't really "Wow!" me. It's all in the rice and I'm not convinced that they did a good job on seasoning the rice. This little sushi place is located in the Piney Orchard Village just near the traffic circle. If you miss it, you will be in the boonies and have no where to turn around for quite some time.... Now they did have an area that is set up like the traditional sushi restaurants with the low tables and you sit on the ground. Will have to come back and do some sake. Overall, I thought the sushi was okay. Nothing really stood out in the menu and the prices were a bit high. But I would gladly come back again.

My husband and I have eaten here twice, both times for lunch, and the sushi is fantastic! How can you beat a three roll for $12.00 special when in comes to sushi?!!? The servers have seemed indifferent on both occasions (maybe because they have limited English vocabularies?) but it really didn't bother me as long as I got my sushi fix. I have eaten at more expensive sushi restaurants in the area, and Hana definitely gives them a run for their money. The only thing I thought was really strange about my experiences there were both times that we went, all of the lights were off and the only light in the place came from the tinted windows at the front of the store. Could ya turn on the lights so I could see what I'm eating, please? Thanks. :)

Being that we just moved here from Japan, this place is good for the area. Tuna quality was ok, service, well its America, but still better than most places. Thumbs up for the rainbow roll. Also had the chicken katsu, it was on the cold side, but still tasted good.

"'Tis the season to be jarry, Fa ra ra ra ra ra, ra ra ra!" That's right, my Christmas Day Dinner was at Japanese restaurant. I couldn't help but think of one my favorite holiday movies, The Christmas Story. And after eating there, I wouldn't of had it any other way. You'll find Hana tucked into a strip mall of a variety of stores, its storefront and area giving off the impression of a cheap Chinese Buffet. Coming here with my sister, by her recommendation, this is a lesson in appearances can be deceiving. I was spectacle at first but the doubt faded as I entered a very nice dining area decorated tastefully and reflecting the Asian culture. Gee, perhaps I should of put on my nice jeans. From the drink menu you will find a wide range Asian Sake, Wines, & Imported beers to pair with your meal. The meals to pick from include entrees centered around seafood, noodles & meats. But the real reason I'm excited to eat here is the variations of Sushi rolls available. Ultimately I went with their "Any 3 rolls for $20" deal and consumed a Philadelphia roll, Spicy Tuna roll, and the Titanic roll in their entirety. Boy, I was stuffed to the brim but couldn't let any of this very fresh sushi go to waste. Easily, the best I've had in some time.

Although I am a fish eater, I tend to get the vegetable sushi selections when I come here. I'm usually a spicy tuna girl, but while the spicy tuna here is not bad, it's nothing special. Their vegetarian sushi rolls on the other hand, are pretty good. I love the Bamboo roll ("thinly sliced avocado wrapped around asparagus, shitake and cucumber"). I'm tempted to give this place four stars, but I'm not a big fan of their vegetable tempura, and I wish they offered a vegetable harumaki or gyoza appetizer (both include either fish or meat). So three stars it is. They have a good sushi lunch combo offer - I think it's any two maki rolls for $8.95 or three for $11.50. Nice, casual place. Service is fairly attentive and I don't think I've ever had to wait too long for my food. We went here more frequently before we discovered Otani, but we still come here every now and again when we don't feel like driving the extra five minutes to Gambrills.

Do note that my judgement is geared more toward the sushi, as that is generally what I come here for. Small cozy location with good food (still surprised that they don't have miso soup, instead they have a soup with mushrooms in it; it saddens me). My husband loves the chicken teriyaki, however I find it a bit on the salty side, and I prefer it to be more sweet. I do like their kalbi beef dish. :) Great sushi (my regular order is- shrimp tempura roll, spicy tuna roll, and dragon roll), it seems more costly than I'm accustomed to. They have a partitioned section that makes customers feel like they're having a more authentic Japanese experience (minus the kneeling if you don't want to), as it is a no shoes area with low wooden tables, with a cutout under the table and seating cushions.

I went to Hana at lunch with my parents because my Dad is a hardcore sushi eater and this is one of his favorite places. I ordered Miso Soup, Seaweed Salad and the Spicy Tuna Crunch Roll. Secretly, I would have loved to sit there and eat about five pounds of sushi because the fish was very fresh and the portions were large. However, I decided to curb my appetite with the Miso Soup and Seaweed salad - both of which were tasty but average. The Spicy Tuna Crunch Roll was delicious! The fish was fresh and the roll had a nice texture. It was definitely the highlight of my meal. My father ordered a sushi sampler and asked if he could substitute some of the fish for Unagi (eel). This was fine with the restaurant. When my father's lunch arrived, he also received a complimentary hand roll, with eel in it. I thought it was nice that the sushi chef recognized that Unagi must be his favorite. (And of course the complimentary hand roll was a thank you for my father's continued patronage and consistent gratuities.) Service at Hana was good, but with only a few tables seated, I would have been disappointed if it wasn't. The staff was friendly and quick with the refills on drinks. Since we went at lunch, the restaurant was nice and quiet but I can see where it would be loud during busy periods since there are so many hard surfaces. The overall atmosphere was nice and the restaurant seemed clean. We sat at a regular table, but I can see where it would be fun to sit on the floor at the tradition Japanese tables.

don't let the strip mall fool you! Super good place. Nice tables, you get to sit on the floor! Kids loved it! Nice presentation with food, fresh sushi and good service. Definitely stop here. We always prefer something "fresh" when coming home from vacation after eating "comfort food" all week.. this was perfect.

I have been going to Hana since the day they opened. I love the food, the presentation, the owners, Paul & Judy. The fish is always fresh, the food is consistent and delicious. Definitely my favorite place for sushi!

My daughter requested sushi so off we went and found this place. It is small and quiet atmosphere. The staff was nice and attentive. Sushi was good. Possible second visit in store.

Will be back. Went for lunch and had bento box the salmon teriyaki. Large portions. Full roll. Very good and fresh.

My husband and I love Hana. The service is extremely fast, the restaurant is cute and clean, and the food is delicious. The sushi has all been tasty (and more filling than most sushi places). My only complaints are that there is a lot of tempura sushi and I personally enjoy raw sushi, and the wine selection is not great (although it is cheap!).

Hana is an anomaly -- it looks like a takeout place outside (and kind of like one inside) but is actually a high quality Japanese restaurant. The kind without the teppanyaki but with the tatami. Sushi is better than average here, with a good selection of standards and some nice house rolls. The real winner for us is the yaki udon -- I lived in Okinawa for 3 years and these really take me back. Any food that can fire synapses that haven't been used for 30 years is good in my book. The noodles are always fat andoily (not greasy!) as well as perfectly seasoned and cooked. The gyoza are one of the few foods we can always count on our boys eating. Our skinny 5 year old will eat a plate of them himself, usually in record time. For takeout, the bento lunch and dinner boxes are perfect choices. Both contain a meat (teriyaki chicken/fish/beef), a bit of sushi, some yaki udon, rice, soup, and salad. The boxes are a bit pricey (for dinner, especially) but you get a ton of food.

The sushi is fresh and of good quality. The rolls are varied and flavorful. Unfortunately the prices are a bit high. Wouldn't avoid it....wouldn't go out of my way to find it

Love his place but don't go too much because it is a little pricey. It's worth it, food quality is great! I am a sushi fan. It's always top quality and fresh.Check the specials menu, has the freshest there. One time had raw paper thin sliced scallops. aMAZING! Chilean sea bass roll is great. Can't remember the other roll I loved but it had mango nd kiwi.Chirachi bowl is one of my favorites. It's suhi rice and sliced fish in a big bowl. The kids love the bento boxes, and japanese sodas with the glass ball.My husband likes his fish cooked so he gets the teriyaki seafood. It was over $20 but big pieces of great quality seafood. The last time we went it looked a bit smaller. don't forget dessert. Mochi is a Japanese Ice cream treat!

Love the sushi here. Also great authentic Japanese dishes. Try the Soba noodles. Saki selection is also great.

I agree with other reviewers--the best sushi in the area!! The service is great and super friendly. I've only eaten here once but get takeout every week. If they're busy when I go to pick up my order, one of the sushi chefs will fix a quick something for me to munch on while I wait. The fish is consistently fresh and of good quality and the prices are fair. I normally get the chirashi or sushi deluxe but the house special rolls are good too. Never tried any of the kitchen entrees since the sushi is THAT GOOD.

The sushi is decent. The tempura batter is not good. Good sake. I don't want to try any bento boxes or meals from the kitchen because of the bad yelp reviews and the prices. $18 for chicken teriyaki?!? Yikes. Just go for sushi and the house salad; it has fantastic dressing.

I ordered a dinner combo (2 regular rolls, 1 signature roll, and a miso soup for 22 bucks) for carry-out and the sushi is pretty good. I got a spicy tuna roll, crunchy spicy salmon roll and the rainbow roll. The only roll I didn't like was the spicy tuna roll-- it lacked in spiciness and the tuna was not as fresh as other places, BUT on a positive note, the crunchy spicy salmon and rainbow rolls were scrumptious and well made. The rolls came in a large box and they stuffed 20 rolls in there! 22 dollars for close to 20 rolls isn't a bad price and lasted me two meals! As others mentioned, the portions are large. They don't seem to skimp. The only reason why I gave it 3 and not 4 stars is because the tuna was just okay. I live 5 minutes away and will order from them again if I'm dying for sushi. My all-time favorite sushi place is Asian Palace Fusion in Columbia, but this place is closer. Next time, I'll bring a friend to eat inside.

I must share this dialogue before I review the place - Server: "Would you like soup or salad as a side?" Julian: "What comes in the salad?" Server: "Lettuce." Julian: "No, I mean what dressing and other vegetables?" Server: "It is green." OK now that's out of the way, on to the dining experience. This place is the real deal. You take your shoes off, sit on the cushions on the floor and have a real Japanese meal. The sushi bar in the back plays second fiddle to the authentic sit-on-the-floor area in the front. The music is quiet and relaxing, the dishes are elegant stoneware, and the shoyu container is a hand-crafted mini teapot. It almost feels like a spa with food instead of massages, although upon further interaction with the cute server girl a massage may be in the works... I digress. We ordered the Chef's Roll, Dragon Roll, Spicy Tuna Roll, several by-the-piece, and we each got shrimp udon for our entree. The Sushi came out on a huge dish with amazing presentation. They certainly do not skimp on the tobiko here, and I was very impressed. The flavor was amazing, way better than anything I've had downtown, such as Raku. The udon looked really good, but the flavor wasn't as spectacular as the sushi we annihilated moments before. The green tea has free refills, but soda does not. Just puttin' that out there. Holy crap I had the mochi green tea ice cream and it was a BLAST. I think it was more of a sentimental braingasm than a hungergasm, because I used to have this all the time in Hawaii and haven't had mochi since I moved to the DC area until now. On a side note, Odenton has a lot of authentic Asian restaurants in either one of two places: "totally hidden and misleading" or "bring a gun you may get mugged" shopping centers (e.g. Grace Garden, Bangkok Kitchen, Pachanga Grill). You can leave your gun at home for this one but bring the GPS -- just make sure you hide it in the glove box when you park.

The Nigiri is usually pretty good, but it is more expensive than other sushi places in Maryland. As for the authenticity, well, it's as authentic Japanese as an entirely Chinese staff can make it I suppose. The service has always been good, no complaints there. It's close by and their food is pretty consistent, so it's one of the few good food choices in the area. I have never tried anything from the kitchen and have only ordered Maguro, Otoro, Salmon, Hamachi and Scallop. Those are my staples and they're pretty good if you don't mind spending about $1.00-$1.50 higher price than the competition. 31 Oct 09 update: In the past month, I've gone to Hana twice and have upgraded my rating from three to four stars. Last night I ordered Salmon, Hamachi and Maguro, along with an order of Tempura. The fish was very good and the slices were generous. The Tempura was good although I wish they would add grated Daikon to the dipping sauce. The presentation is very nice. The atmosphere was cozy and pleasant and all the waitressess were kind, pleasant and attentive. The down side is the price, the sushi is priced per piece, not two pieces and the cost is what I would expect for two. My dinner last night prior to tip was 54.00 (that was just for me) March 2010 Update: Avoid Sundays. For some reason, whenever I go on Sundays, it's not a good. I think they must employ a different chef.

By far one of the most amazing places for Japanese that I've ever eaten at. From the moment you take your shoes off to sit at the table (literally sitting on a cushion) to the moment you put your shoes back on you will feel as though you are in an escape from the outside world. The presentation of the food and service is absolutely amazing (including authentic kimonos). However, the food is by no means a disappointment either. My wife isn't a fan of seafood so she always gets a more normal entree (like chicken-teriyaki). I am a huge fan of sushi, it is my favorite food, and I order it every opportunity I can. The traditional entrees and the sushi are both divine. They even offer different kinds of tartar! Also, the take-out is just as good as the sit-in experience for the quality of food (they even stayed open a few minutes late to let me come pick it up!) We are new to the area and don't have anyone for babysitting yet, so we took our 16 month old with us when we went the first time. Normally she's a very well-behaved little girl, but it was pretty tempting to be on the ground at the table with so many neat things to play with. I can't say I blame her for trying to get her hands on everything, and had we realized the kind of place it was we probably wouldn't bring her during main dinner hours. Anyway, she was getting a little restless at one point during the meal and one of the ladies in the restaurant actually came and took her for about five minutes so we could focus on eating for a few. She went and showed her all the sushi and fish and was absolutely amazing with her while we finished the last part of our meal. That kind of service is pretty rare to find, and something that is greatly appreciated. It has been almost two months since I went into the restaurant and ate-in so I know that my memory is not doing it justice, but needless to say that I will be eating there quite often anytime I'm looking for really good sushi and a nice night out.

I think it's pretty safe to say that Sushi is about my all time favorite food! That being said, I can't imagine what possessed me to forget to Yelp about one of my favorite "in the hood" sushi stops, Hana Japanese Cuisine, especially when you consider that fellow "East-side" Yelpers, Nathan C, and Angela M have already done so. Let me join in the chorus of happy Yelps about this unsuspecting little gem! I always feel like we're in a little Oasis when we come here. It's tranquil, elegant warm and inviting, and just the opposite of what you might expect from a strip-mall sushi joint. They make crazy good Gyoza here, but my favorite first course is the shiitake mushroom soup. It's just brimming with mushroom flavor. We have some favorites: The chirashi sushi is divine. 11 pieces of sashimi (my favorite is the white tuna) and tamago over seasoned rice. It comes with soup and salad and for $17.95 it's a great deal. . Special rolls are great here. We love the Dynamite roll! Served hot with 5 different types of roe and spicy mayonaisse. Check the board for specials, as the chefs are always creating something. They carry a nice selection of standard rolls all at reasonable prices. Also, there is an abundance of non-sushi related cuisine, including Katsu, Teriyaki, Tempura, Noodles, Yaki don and Kalbi for you KBBQ fans. Unfortunately, no panchan to accompany. Sit at the sushi bar and you can expect a little treat. Service here is always genuinely friendly and efficient.

I wish we could give 1/2 stars! I teetered back and forth between 2 and 3. For a strip mall in the middle of the burbs, this place is adequate. Decor is not your typical 'throw anything depicting Japanese culture on the wall,' in a refreshing and simple way. Their specialty rolls were a bit pricey, and there was far too much cream cheese throughout the descriptions. Since when did sushi revolve around cream cheese?? The service was exceptional, however. And the lunch specials were pretty nice--$9 for 2 rolls (I chose spicy tuna and eel/avocado). The spicy tuna wasn't all that fresh or spicy. The eel roll was tasty, however. My b/f got the tempura special (shrimp and random veggies fried in tempura). The batter and tempura flakes were great--cooked perfectly. He didn't care for the fried sweet potato. So being the helpful g/f I am, I took those from his plate. :) We left totally full (soup/salad were included in each meal), with only minimally impacted wallets. I wouldn't ever say "Oh I am craving sushi, let's go to Hanna!!" But, if I were in the area, and I wanted something healthy, this place would do just fine. My suggestion for cheap ambience improvement--MUSIC!! You could hear a chopstick drop in here.

Can you find good sushi outside of a big city!! Yes you can! We enjoying trying the specials from the board. The staff is very helpful in describing each roll and they know us by name now. Small and very comfortable they enjoy making you part of their family.

It's a well kept secret in this area, since the sushi here is first-rate. There isn't much else, but the sushi, I reiterate, is fantastic. I used to go to Annapolis to have good sushi at places like Joss, but since I found this little gem in a small strip mall around Piney Orchard, I have never looked to go anywhere else to get my sushi fix.

This place has a wonderful ambience and fantastic food. I didn't get to eat sushi ( :( ) but the pork katsu was great! From what I saw, the rolls were all very stylishly done. The customer service was great! I haven't felt that special at a restaurant in this area in a long, long time. The price was a little high, but what Japanese/Sushi restaurant isn't?

Excellent mom and pop sushi joint. All the food is artfully prepared with care to every detail and the quality of the sushi is excellent. The restaurant manager is extremely nice and very accommodating. If this place was in DC. and tucked away in a strip mall in Odenton it would be much more well know.

EXTREMELY disappointed in the "octopus" salad. $5.50 for a large pile of cucumbers and barely any octopus which smells awful. Actual sushi rolls were decent, but I will not be ordering from here in the future.

The best sushi place in this area and you got very friendly services too ! Try this place ,you will like it ! When they use the salmon fish fillets for sushi ,this place cut you a big pcs (one inches thick ) they are not cheap you can tell !

Great food, affordable. Eat here at least once a week. Their special rolls for the day I highly recommend. They have an American Roll right now which is awesome!!

Went for lunch. The food was really good, with good portions. I plan to go back to try more sushi. We went for lunch and I had a lunch box and my husband had Tempura. All very good:)

Excellent mom and pop sushi joint. All the food is artfully prepared with care to every detail and the quality of the sushi is excellent. The restaurant manager is extremely nice and very accommodating. If this place was in DC. and tucked away in a strip mall in Odenton it would be much more well know.

One of the best restaurants serving great sushi in town.

Mmmmm get the Treasure Island. Good food - good customer service.

Great sushi. We've been twice in the last 2 weeks. The special Hawaiian roll was one of the best I've had anywhere.
(4)Jessica P.
(4)Laurie K.
(4)Jessica M.
EXTREMELY disappointed in the "octopus" salad. $5.50 for a large pile of cucumbers and barely any octopus which smells awful. Actual sushi rolls were decent, but I will not be ordering from here in the future.
(2)Rob S.
(2)Dee W.

(5)Clay W.
(4)Evie S.
(5)Kris F.
(1)Sabina B.
(4)Anastasia B.
(4)Evan B.
The sushi quality here is superb. For the non-sushi diner their full menu of japanese cuisine is varied and delicious. Pricing is comparable with other Japanese restaurants. Highly recommend the sashimi.
(5)Hannah F.
(4)Holden C.
I would have rather eaten Ramen noodles cooked in a toilet. This place was awful in every aspect.
(1)Bill T.
We went for our first visit last night - still talking about it - probably a 4.5. The sushi was FANTASTIC! Very fresh and very well prepared. Next time, we plan on sitting in the low-table section for a bit more authentic atmosphere.
(4)Theresa H.
(2)Michael C.

(4)Sandy D.
(4)Elisa M.
Yum! thanks!
(5)Tim Z.
I have eaten here three times over the last month. Sushi is excellent. A wide variety of rolls, the chef does a great job and the sushi rice is superb. Soups are very good. Bento Box are excellent.

Great food, affordable. Eat here at least once a week. Their special rolls for the day I highly recommend. They have an American Roll right now which is awesome!!
(5)Bethany G.
I love this place! We eat here regularly and are always pleased with the food and the service. Their sushi is always beautiful and fresh. The service is fast and professional. Definitely give it a try if you're in the area!
(4)Vannessa S.
Thanks. :)
(4)Jordan K.
Being that we just moved here from Japan, this place is good for the area. Tuna quality was ok, service, well its America, but still better than most places. Thumbs up for the rainbow roll. Also had the chicken katsu, it was on the cold side, but still tasted good.
(3)aloha-ellen m.
Long story short ... really great food with a nice presentation, but small tables & bad chairs. They could use a little better place for what it looks like they are trying to do.
(4)Brandima A.
SO yummy! I would say THE BEST in the area! Not five stars because of the price but you have to pay for quality!

(5)Angie M.
Went for lunch. The food was really good, with good portions. I plan to go back to try more sushi. We went for lunch and I had a lunch box and my husband had Tempura. All very good:)
(4)Myr S.
(3)I C.

(4)Anca M.
I have been going to Hana since the day they opened. I love the food, the presentation, the owners, Paul & Judy. The fish is always fresh, the food is consistent and delicious. Definitely my favorite place for sushi!
(5)Empress W.
My daughter requested sushi so off we went and found this place. It is small and quiet atmosphere. The staff was nice and attentive. Sushi was good. Possible second visit in store.
(4)Ariana K.
Good fresh sushi for a good price.
(4)Cindy C.
Will be back. Went for lunch and had bento box the salmon teriyaki. Large portions. Full roll. Very good and fresh.
(5)Becky M.
(4)Nathan C.
(4)Brian C.
The sushi is fresh and of good quality. The rolls are varied and flavorful. Unfortunately the prices are a bit high. Wouldn't avoid it....wouldn't go out of my way to find it
(3)Maureen H.
(4)Justin R.
Love the sushi here. Also great authentic Japanese dishes. Try the Soba noodles. Saki selection is also great.
(4)courtney n.
(4)Amy A.
(2)Kelly F.
(3)Jonathan H.
(4)SAMANTHA D.
I think it gets high ratings because it's the only sushi place within miles
(3)M G.

(2)Kathryn M.
Can you find good sushi outside of a big city!! Yes you can! We enjoying trying the specials from the board. The staff is very helpful in describing each roll and they know us by name now. Small and very comfortable they enjoy making you part of their family.
(5)Rasi W.
(5)Stephanie M.
(4)Teresa R.
Excellent mom and pop sushi joint. All the food is artfully prepared with care to every detail and the quality of the sushi is excellent. The restaurant manager is extremely nice and very accommodating. If this place was in DC. and tucked away in a strip mall in Odenton it would be much more well know.

Mmmmm get the Treasure Island. Good food - good customer service.

(5)Clay W.
(4)Evie S.
(5)Peter N.
(4)Rob S.
(2)Dee W.
(4)Laurie K.
(4)Adrian M.
(1)Elle Z.
(4)Jessica M.
EXTREMELY disappointed in the "octopus" salad. $5.50 for a large pile of cucumbers and barely any octopus which smells awful. Actual sushi rolls were decent, but I will not be ordering from here in the future.
(2)David L.
The best sushi place in this area and you got very friendly services too ! Try this place ,you will like it ! When they use the salmon fish fillets for sushi ,this place cut you a big pcs (one inches thick ) they are not cheap you can tell !
(4)Ky T.
Very cute and quaint location. I found the service to be speedy, attentive, and pleasant. I've thoroughly enjoyed every sushi roll I tried and would recommend this place.
(4)M B.
(2)Lil Birdie N.
(4)Nancy A.
(5)Tim Z.
I have eaten here three times over the last month. Sushi is excellent. A wide variety of rolls, the chef does a great job and the sushi rice is superb. Soups are very good. Bento Box are excellent.

Pick up some lunch and got diarrhea 30 mins after we finish our sushi....

(5)Marcus M.
(5)Steven D.
One of the best restaurants serving great sushi in town.
(5)Kris F.
(1)Sabina B.
(4)Bethany G.
I love this place! We eat here regularly and are always pleased with the food and the service. Their sushi is always beautiful and fresh. The service is fast and professional. Definitely give it a try if you're in the area!
(4)Hannah F.
(2)Michael C.

(4)Sandy D.

Great food, affordable. Eat here at least once a week. Their special rolls for the day I highly recommend. They have an American Roll right now which is awesome!!
(5)Vannessa S.

(3)courtney n.

(5)Angie M.
Went for lunch. The food was really good, with good portions. I plan to go back to try more sushi. We went for lunch and I had a lunch box and my husband had Tempura. All very good:)
(4)Myr S.
(3)I C.

(4)Robin L.
don't let the strip mall fool you! Super good place. Nice tables, you get to sit on the floor! Kids loved it! Nice presentation with food, fresh sushi and good service. Definitely stop here. We always prefer something "fresh" when coming home from vacation after eating "comfort food" all week.. this was perfect.
(5)Becky M.
(4)Nathan C.
(4)Brian C.
The sushi is fresh and of good quality. The rolls are varied and flavorful. Unfortunately the prices are a bit high. Wouldn't avoid it....wouldn't go out of my way to find it
(3)Maureen H.
(4)Justin R.
Love the sushi here. Also great authentic Japanese dishes. Try the Soba noodles. Saki selection is also great.
(4)Amy A.
(2)Anastasia B.
(4)Evan B.
The sushi quality here is superb. For the non-sushi diner their full menu of japanese cuisine is varied and delicious. Pricing is comparable with other Japanese restaurants. Highly recommend the sashimi.

(4)SAMANTHA D.
I think it gets high ratings because it's the only sushi place within miles
(3)Steven H.
(5)Kelly F.
(3)Patrick H.
(4)aloha-ellen m.
Long story short ... really great food with a nice presentation, but small tables & bad chairs. They could use a little better place for what it looks like they are trying to do.
(4)Brandima A.
SO yummy! I would say THE BEST in the area! Not five stars because of the price but you have to pay for quality!
(4)Lesley E.
(2)Kathryn M.
Can you find good sushi outside of a big city!! Yes you can! We enjoying trying the specials from the board. The staff is very helpful in describing each roll and they know us by name now. Small and very comfortable they enjoy making you part of their family.
(5)Rasi W.

Great sushi. We've been twice in the last 2 weeks. The special Hawaiian roll was one of the best I've had anywhere.
(4)Jessica P.
