My husband and I had our rehearsal dinner here 6 years ago. We went this year to commemorate our wedding anniversary. The ambiance is nice and the food was good, with exception of the creme brûlée. The service left much to be desired for, including the bartender. In their defense it was Autumn Glory weekend, so it was very busy.

We had an outstanding experience at Cornish Manor last night. The old victorian mansion setting is so charming. The ambience is very special. The food was delicious. We ordered the fried oyster appetizer to share which was a generous portion and perfect for sharing. I ordered the orange roughy with crab imperial. It was wonderful. My husband ordered the lamb shank special with veal demi glaze. What an inspired dish. I kept stealing bites from his plate. The wines by the glass were chosen well. The service was very slow, which made most of the meal more enjoyable and relaxed compared to the normal rush you through the courses treatment we get at most restaurants. So, we were fine with the slow pace of the evening, except that it took an extraordinary amount of time for us to even be able to order drinks and then an extraordinary amount of time to receive them. The restaurant was surprisingly VERY busy for a Thursday night in off-season, which is probably a testimony to how good it is. This restaurant is truly an oasis in a place where McDonalds is a better bet than most restaurants in the area. To top it off the prices are so reasonable compared to home (DC) and for a much finer meal and experience. We come to Deep Creek often and will be going to Cornish Manor regularly now. It's a bit of a drive but so worth it.

Great food and wine selection. Tip - sit outside in covered patio during nice weather.

My family and I went on Christmas Eve and I have to say, the reviews are a bit over rated. The Hungarian Mushroom soup my husband ordered was good, salad was also good but the steak from the kid's menu was WAY over cooked. I thought I ordered steak and not burnt paper... Also the pasta with meatball was no good from kids menu. Marinara sauce was way too sweet. Entree from adult menu was okay but i got the impression they don't really care what or how they cook for the kids. We were all a bit disappointed for the price we paid.

this place was great. My wife and I went hiking at Swallow Falls then took the 10 minute drive into Oakland. We looked around Oakland for a little while then decided to grab lunch. I had heard this place served French and American food so I was pretty psyched. We got there and the only thing "French" on the menu was french fries. I asked the server and she said they had changed over and were focused more on Italian. Disappointed by the lack of French foods I "settled" for Chicken Picatta. Wow! That was a great move. The meal was prepared amazingly well. Would definitely order it again. My wife had their reuben (ordered with no bread since she is gluten free) and she really enjoyed it. Great food, service and atmosphere.

Nice treat. Good quality food.

My what a difference four months makes. I don't know what they have changed, but this was our worst dinner ever at Cornish. Calamari appetizer never showed up... The Lamb shank on a bed of mashed potatoes turned out to be a baked potato, and a cold one at that... With a rotten hollow spot in the middle that the cook cut through. Very small side of over cooked vegetables. Not at all like the place my wife and I used to visit once a week. She did enjoy her meal, a parm crusted tilapia pasta dish, but for the money, we could have had a much better meal. I hope they fix whatever is wrong and make it like it used to be.

We had the lamb chops and the pepper steak. The lamb chops were absolutely fantastic! Very tender and flavorful, cooked to a perfect medium rare. The steak was also very tasty and cooked a perfect medium rare. Both of these dishes were well worth the @ $24 price of each. The service by Angel was also very good. Everything was so good we went back the next night. The orange roughy and prime rib were also excellent. If you go to their website, they offer a coupon for "buy one item, get another of equal or lesser value for 50% off" (valid through september 2011). Just be sure to print it out...the first night we went the waitress didn't flinch when we showed the coupon by presenting it to her on our ipad. The next night, our waitress told us it had to be printed out in order to be valid. A little ridiculous, considering the coupon mentions nothing about having to be printed out, only that it cannot be used for specials or with other promotions. We would have printed the coupon out, but being tourists, we didn't have a computer, nor did the hotel we were staying at.

A favorite place to go when in the area. They have great salads - very fresh! This is one of my wife's gotta-go restaurants.
(5)Tim F.
Great service. Beautiful facility. The pasta entrees were big enough for two. I really liked the large glasses for drinks. We stayed for ~ 2.5 hours on a Sunday evening and were not rushed (it was not crowded at all). The building is an old Victorian style home that was well furnished. We had a blast and hope to return.

I came here with my fiancee during our engagement weekend at Deep Creek Lake. Overall, I don't think this area boasts many formal restaurants which would be considered good for an engagement type celebration. This place, however, hit the spot. As you enter from the street, the restaurant is inside an old mansion just outside of Oakland. The interior is very nicely done. We sat outside on the patio. Very nice. Now the main part...the food....the food was excellent. I have zero criticism. I got the parisian steak with mashed potatoes, yellow squash, and asparagus. Everything was done to perfection. Very tasty, not overly cooked, and seasoned just right. My fiancee got the seafood pasta in parmesan sauce. I tried a little bit. It was great too. Very fresh tasting scallops, shrimp, and mussels, which I think were all in this. We also got the brazilian scallops as an appetizer which were great. Overall, I would strongly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting the Deep Creek area.

A very quaint place, the ambiance was nice, although you heard the screeching of tires from Garrett Highway. We sat on the porch, with tin roofing and clear drapes to protect from the rain. You almost couldn't here the highway. We ordered the steamed mussels for a starter, and they were the best I've had. Really quite exceptional. I believe there were diced tomatoes, garlic, and some sort of cheesy champagne sauce. I ordered the swordfish with pineapple salsa, and I was disappointed to find that I had undercooked rice, and that the salsa, wasn't really salsa at all! It had mango, carrot, tomatoes, but no pineapple! The swordfish lacked flavor and tanginess. The service was poor as well, too. Our waitress had abandon us for awhile, and forgot my Dad's glass of wine. For dessert, since it was my Father's birthday, we ordered Key Lime Pie, which was terrific. When our waitress brought us our check, she had forgotten the pen! A two stars, but would have been higher if the service was better.

The food is EXCELLENT. The best place in western MD. We started with cheese tray, and soup was great, filet mignon, seafood, everything was awesome. Service was on point, and dessert.... Mmmm I'm not a dessert person but I really loved the German apple cake with vanilla ice cream. Bread pudding was so awesome too, you have to try it!!!!

Living in WV for the past 8 years has made me really appreciate the art of finding good food. Also having been to some amazing restaurants I must say this place plays with the big dogs in a area where the big dogs don't even exist. All of the meals I have had here have been wonderful and the staff is great ta boot. It can be really dressy or nice and casual. Best place for miles around for sure.

I can't wait to go back, mainly to try something other that what I had. A group of us go up to Deep Creek for a girls weekend every year. This year our hostess said she had found a great new place for lunch. First, the place is amazing. It was originally built as a 'summer cottage' but is a pretty grand Victorian house. The downstairs is the main dining room and the upstairs bedrooms have been converted into individual dining rooms for private parties. We were certainly dressed casually and there was a very relaxed atmosphere. Two of our group got the lobster bisque. I got a taste and it was creamy and flavorful. One person got the melted brie sandwich. It looked delicious and she agreed that it was her favorite menu item. Another of our group got the crab cake sandwich. Her only complaint was that it was too big and sloppy to be eaten as a sandwich, but that the crab cake was mostly crab, not filler, and she was very pleased. And then, our quiches arrived. Three of us got the crab and cheddar quiche. Oh dear. First of all, this is clearly an item that is bought frozen and reheated. It is an individual quiche, not in any kind of dish (no doubt they threw the aluminum pie plate away after heating.). The filling was very dry. I flaked the crust away from around the outside and the filling just stood on its own, completely intact. It came with a small pile of canned fruit and a small amount of salad. The salad was actually pretty good. The presentation was lovely. Two of us were not happy with the dish, but the third thought it tasted fine. I was mainly disappointed in seeing so much good and obviously freshly prepared food around me and then getting a frozen entree. I can't wait to go back, but I will be staying away from the quiche.

Went for dinner on New Year's Eve last night. Granted it was a very busy night, but based on this experience, I would never go back... Our server was grumpy, unfriendly, and impolite. It took 1 hour to get the drinks we ordered, and not until then did the waitress tell me that they didn't have my drink. I reordered, and it took another half hour for my replacement to arrive. When the dinner finally arrived, the vegetables, fish, and duck were all cold. At the end of the night, we got the bill, and the waitress told us that she already added an 18% gratuity to the bill! She definitely didn't deserve that after the poor service we received all night.
(1)Joy M.
Everything we had was wonderful. The crab dip, the salmon, the delmonico, even the chicken tenders. So mice to find family friendly fine dining. The restaurant decor was beautiful and they played acoustic music from Sirius. Definite recommend!
(5)Kyle U.
The Eggs Montoya was perfect. We went here for Mother's Day, and came back on Father's Day. That's when I got the Prime Rib. It was tender and they brought it medium rare, like I asked. The food here is traditionally simple and good. The restaurant is inside an old historic manor. It's a huge house with a giant porch. You can eat on the porch. They have a bar. The service was good. It's a good spot to eat. It's somewhat fancy, so you can take your parents or grandparents here. I will come back for another family type of outing or something.

My husband and I went there for our 19th wedding anniversary. we were seated in a very dark corner at a very small table. the screw driver I ordered was terrible - how do you screw up a screw driver - literally! the food was mediocre - my seafood was very good however the rice was terrible - the wait staff were terrible and did not know what some of the menu items were! very over priced - terrible atmosphere, food and service! will never eat there again. have paid less for better!

Just had lunch here today with my husband and my parents. Initially we thought we might be under-dressed, because the restaurant is inside a very beautiful old Victorian farmhouse (circa 1866), but for lunch it was definitely casual The spinach, feta, and tomato quiche was excellent (it was an individual quiche with a full pastry crust that was yummy!) My Mom & my husband both had the haddock sandwich (battered and deep-fried filets) - it also was very yummy! My Dad had a provolone-onion-mushroom burger. It was nice and juicy and also very good. All the sandwiches/burgers were on very fresh, tasty, crusty herb rolls which are specially made for this restaurant. Each sandwich came with a side salad with their homemade concoction of vinaigrette-ranch dressing (unusual combination, but it worked well), and french fries. My quiche came with a side salad and some sweet, ripe cantaloupe. The bill for the 4 of us only came to $44 (and that was WITH two beers!) All-in-all this place was a great find, delicious food, and great ambiance. This restaurant is just short of a 5-star rating in my estimation!.

This place was awesome and affordable. We went for lunch and spent about $28 with drinks and dessert. I got the brie sandwich... it was so amazing with smoky bacon and avocado. My husband got the tuna melt which was also very good. We shared the creme brulee which was probably the best brulee I've had in a very long time. We will definitely go back soon. It was a 5 for lunch! Looking forward to trying dinner.

My husband and I were on a leisurely drive when hunger caused us to happen upon this delightful spot where the ambiance alone might bring one back often! What a beautiful old house in which to have a restaurant! It is lovely inside and out, and on this sunny July afternoon it charmed us. The food was good, with very big portion sizes and quite reasonable prices for the area and type of restaurant

Oh my where to begin, I'll start off with the positives, no strike that, positive, singular. The interior was interesting, had a Victorian haunted manor look about it. I have to agree with another reviewer and say the waitstaff was clueless and add slightly surly to the mix. We had a member of our party who has dietary issues and the waitress was not happy about her insistence on knowing what was in her food. Just a complete lack of helpfulness. When I asked what kind of sauce was on the 'special' pasta of the day which she described as penne with spinach, artichoke and sun dried tomato with shrimp she merely responded, "spinach, artichoke and sun dried tomato." I eventually had to ask her to run to the kitchen to inquire if it was a cream sauce, a red sauce, a white wine sauce -- she seemed not to grasp the question as she blankly read from her specials notes, just repeating vegetables. We had to request water a few times before getting it and it seems to me that there should have been additional staff to make service smoother, no food runner, no busboy, just our lone waitress who proudly proclaimed she had been there for many years despite having little to no knowledge of the food. The food was unspectacular bordering on dreadful. My pasta was a mass of congealed fats lacking both the spinach and artichoke, my partner's crab cakes were most assuredly not fresh and the rest of our 9 person party was less than thrilled with their overpriced offerings. Find somewhere else to eat that offers fresh food and better service.

Blargh. The interior reminded me of your grandmother's house that she never renovated. The waitstaff was totally clueless. We heard one server list totally different soups of the day than what we were told by our server. I asked our server what the cream of spinach was like. He admitted he did not know because he is lactose intolerant. Fair enough, but could you get me a description? Find me waitstaff that has tasted it? Tell me what it looks like? Luckily, it was so tasty, and that's from whence their two stars come. The croutons in my husband French onion were grainy mush, and the cranberry glaze in the turkey sandwich was sickly sweet. My husband's quiche was ok, maybe a little overdone. I don't recommend.
(2)Hilary B.
Wonderful French onion soup for lunch. Very rich and delicious. Did not try much on the menu this visit but will definitely be back. Incredibly friendly wait staff. Lovely ambiance. A real find in this town which sadly has little to compare. Will definitely be back!

This is a very Beautiful restaurant. If you looking at light fixtures this is a great place to be. It is definitely on the high end side of the Deep Creek area. Off course, I was not very hungry when we got here. I really wanted to order an entree but I felt like I was going to explode after eating lunch earlier. I went for the Smoked salmon & Trout salad. Even for just a salad, it was very large. I made a small dent in it but I was not able to finish it. I was also impressed with the service. We were here for bachelorette dinner and we warned them about our noisiness. They were very accomodating and placed us in a room with a great view that didn't disturb other people's dining experience. I thought that was very nice.

RECOMMENDED : Overall this place is a nice quiet high-end restaurant that's nestled in the rolling hills of Western Maryland. The location is good - very secluded and quiet. It is basically, as the name state as, inside a former manor from the 1800-1900s. Very vintage feel. The food is very good. Steak was a little small but done properly, salad was very good and the complimentary bread rolls were awesome - not just some rolls they throw out to whoever. Crab cakes seemed large and in-charge, however, I would steer clear of the raspberry chipotle chicken and shrimp- taste-tested it and thanked the heavens I did not go out on a limb. The cost is on the higher end but I would recommend it when you are in the Deep creek area
(4)Jill K.
Truly delicious food, the lobster bisque is life changing and fried oysters are outstanding - but really everything we ordered was awesome! Can't go wrong
(5)James M.
Far exceeds anything local to the area. We were very pleased with everything. I could not find anything we would change. It was about 25 degrees outside and the inside was cold where we were seated. But we found others areas quite warm. So just stay in the main dining area. We have eaten at the silver tree quite a few times. Cornish Manor is now our favorite by far. They are very dedicated professionals with a staff of professionals. Cornish Manor has one talented Chef! The Silver Tree has young adults running the facility and it shows. They simply are not dedicated as being their livelihood. On with the meal, I had fried oysters as appetizer, they were very crispy and lightly breaded on the outside while perfect consistency within. My peppercorn strip steak with cognac demi glace was cooked perfect. Then to top it off, for desert I had bread pudding with caramel glaze and walnuts, it was very good as well. No disappointments here!
(5)John B.
The lunch menu is extensive the food was great and the portions were huge. Highly recommend.
(5)Corey W.
Great quiet setting; perfect date/private set up. Portions are huge; easily able to split. Service was great. We asked for flowers to be at the table when we arrived and they delivered perfectly. Highly recommend and worth the short trip if you are in the Deep Creek area.
(5)Mary P.
Fantastic food (particularly like the crab mac and cheese and the warm chicken salad) and super friendly servers! Best place to eat in Oakland.
(5)Sherri V.
Delicious meal, wonderful period atmosphere and top notch service.

My wife and I went there for our anniversary. I had the Chicken Imperial with Lump Crab. It was delicious and was the best meal I've had in years. The wait staff was professional, prompt, and courteous. We will definitely go back.

I'm sad to say this place was a huge disappointment. We were a party of 6 celebrating a birthday. We made a reservation for a Sunday which wasn't necessary as it wasn't very crowded. When we arrived there was no employee, hostess, server in sight for nearly 20 mins. Finally a server sat us and walked away. 15 minutes later she returned to take our drink order. When she delivered the drinks she hurried us through the specials and took our order. The food arrived in a reasonable amount of time and was good, but after receiving the food we didn't see her again for over 30 minutes. The soda tasted like mold but we were afraid to say anything as the server was already in a bad mood. As I returned from the restroom I saw her making drinks behind the bar and finally realized she was the ONLY employee there, other than kitchen staff. I asked her if they did anything special for birthdays and she was clearly annoyed by this and said " she'd come up with something" I didn't want anything extravagant, maybe a sundae with a candle. My bad for not asking when making the reservation. After she finally cleared our empty plates she asked if anyone wanted dessert which we considered and returned with 3 dessert menus, for 6 people to share and tossed them on the table and walked away. We decided we didn't want to be there another hour as that is how long it was going to take, so we declined, paid the check and left. She did bring a piece of pie with a candle which was nice, but it wasn't done in a warm manner. It was not our fault that the place was understaffed. I am floored that the manager, owner, whomever wasn't there to help her out. We tried to be understanding as it wasn't her fault either, but considering it must not be very important to provide good service we will never go back. It's a beautiful, unique setting that is overshadowed by horrible service.

The thanksgiving special was one of the worst restaurant meals we have had in awhile. Our first clue should have been that it came with a salad - which is just strange for Thanksgiving. But the real problem was that the turkey/mashed potatoes/stuffing platter came covered in a huge amount of thick, white, gloppy, unbelievably salty "gravy" that made the entire plate of food inedible. The meal was, expensive, inedible, and did not include dessert. (How can a Thanksgiving special not include pumpkin pie??) Very disappointing.
(1)Mark G.
The worst meal I've ever been served. I had the Cajun Catfish with Shrimp Etouffe -- the seafood was very quite good, but the cream tomato based sauce was inexplicably sweet. My wife ordered Brazilian Shrimp & Scallops, and again, although the seafood was correctly prepared, the accompanying sauce was inedible and tasted like a mixture of equal parts tomato sauce, raspberry jam and corn syrup. Accompanying vegetables had been cooked in highly salted water and were the only balance to the syrupy sauces. Service was prompt and the setting was really exceptional, but in no way overcame the poorly prepared food.

This restaurant deserves a poem, not a review. What a nice location. What a spectacular view. What a good food. And the look, both from the inside and the outside! It's the place to propose to a person you want to marry or to celebrate an anniversary of a person you love. One of my top favorites.
(5)Douglas S.
Food was great and portions were huge. The rustic interior added to uniqueness of the experience. Service was great and the atmosphere was like stepping back to a simpler time. Highly recommended for anyone vacationing in the area.

Tip - sit outside in covered patio during nice weather.

this place was great.

Everything we had was wonderful. The crab dip, the salmon, the delmonico, even the chicken tenders. So mice to find family friendly fine dining. The restaurant decor was beautiful and they played acoustic music from Sirius. Definite recommend!

Truly delicious food, the lobster bisque is life changing and fried oysters are outstanding - but really everything we ordered was awesome! Can't go wrong

Great quiet setting; perfect date/private set up. Portions are huge; easily able to split. Service was great. We asked for flowers to be at the table when we arrived and they delivered perfectly. Highly recommend and worth the short trip if you are in the Deep Creek area.

Fantastic food (particularly like the crab mac and cheese and the warm chicken salad) and super friendly servers! Best place to eat in Oakland.

My wife and I went there for our anniversary. I had the Chicken Imperial with Lump Crab. It was delicious and was the best meal I've had in years. The wait staff was professional, prompt, and courteous. We will definitely go back.
