Food can be inconsistent depending on your chef, but the ingredients are always fresh. It should make sense that when you go to a teppanyaki place the food is not going to be consistent unless you get the same chef. Even though they follow similar recipes it is obvious from watching them that each chef has his own style and does things a little bit differently.than the other chefs. That being said, this place is better than any other teppanyaki place I have been to (I have only been to three and this was my first). I have been here where the food was easily a 5. Other times the food was only a 3. The veggies are usually consistently good. When the fried rice is made properly here (it is more often than not) it is outstanding. I also like their miso soup. Usually, I get the steak and shrimp. The cuts of meat are always top quality. You can see it before they cook it. They are always well marbled and look like a cut I would pick out myself. The shrimp is always fresh. As I said before, the quality of the preparation will vary between chefs, but it is usually pretty good. Some over season and some under season. It is usually a small difference. As with the food preparation, the teppanyaki show also varies depending on your chef. Most of the chefs here are very gregarious and will get the table involved. They are also very skilled with the knife and the spatula. It is always fun to have kids at your table as they really tend to enjoy the show. I have only been to 3 teppanyaki places in my ife and this was the best.

sushi was amazing. the only reason i didn't give 5 stars was because the waitress said I couldn't order a side of fried rice with my sushi. weird. other than that the sushi was on point.

Food is very very good! The chef's put on a great show but it usually never changes, same routine. The steak and shrimp is the best thing on the menu! Yum Yum sauce is also great on rice and vegetables. They always give you more food then you can eat. The bill is reasonable and the service is very nice! I don't understand what other reviewers are seeing bad in this place! This is not a 5 star fine dinning experience and i would not even consider is a steak house because there only 2 cuts of meat on the menu! Its a great place! Just try it out! You wont regret it!!!

Useless hostesses who don't know how to ask a guest what they plan on eating for where to sit (FYI the front and back to the laymen doesn't imply sushi or hibachi). Mediocre sushi that's overpriced and bland. Hibachi was decent and service was good but that's about it.

The food was bland and somewhat tasteless. The chef at the habachi table was very boring and he over cook the food.

This place is horrible. Food is not better than other places like Sakura. We made a reservation but was told that we have to wait at least 30 more minutes AFTER we already waited for 15 minutes. But they would cancel your reservation if you are late for more than 15 minutes. When we went to the manager to talk about this issue, he did not even apologize and just told us that they are backed up that day. We ended up leaving this place without eating, We will not go there again. Apparently reservation does not mean reservation at this place according to the manager.

I went there yesterday with my husband and a bunch of friends. It was my first experience at a teppanyaki dinner. Lots of people are complaining in their reviews that the routine was trite, i disagree. It was my 1st time so therefore it was all very exciting for me.. though I would not give the food more than a 3.5. That can just be my experience as the quality of your food depends on the chef assigned to your table. However, I would go again for the entertainment.

I love going here for sushi. I have not had the hibachi. The only problem I have is the small sushi area squeezed in to the front of the restaurant. I enjoyed the sushi, the variety. I am not a sashimi eater, so I cannot vouch for that. I had several rolls and enjoyed each. There are several traditional and standard options and some more "creative" ones. I recommend going for sushi if in the area. I think they open at 3pm

love watching them cook the food in front of you. it is an art as well as a meal. when i went got the salmon which was done perfectly always have extras to take a goody bag home. also enjoy how this is good for a group because of large tables and good for meeting people because when in small they sit people together at large tables.

Kobi's is one of my favorite restaurants. I enjoy the fact that your meal (and the others patrons at the table) is prepared right in front of you so there's no second guessing about how it was prepared. The chefs/grillmasters put on quite a show and is fun to watch each and every time. I have an onion allergy and they always accomodate my specific needs and prepare my veggies separate. And the Yum Yum sauce is heavenly!!!! I never turn down an opportunity to eat here!

I love sushi and Kobe has a decent assortment, but it's not my number one go-to sushi place. The only time I go is if I'm craving sushi and I'm at work. This is within walking distance from work, so it's very convenient. However, if I'm up for the short drive, I'll head over to China Wok because they have a sushi lunch combo that's just about the same, if not better, and for a couple dollars cheaper. Kobe's sushi lunch combo is good from 11 am to 2 pm and includes miso soup, salad, 5 pieces of nigiri, california roll (8 pieces), and a tuna roll (8 pieces) for $12.99. If you want to get spicy tuna instead of regular, it's $1 extra. My favorite part about Kobe's sushi is the sushi chef, Eric. He is great to talk to if you're sitting alone at the sushi bar. He keeps me company and hooks me up with seaweed salad. The hal-abeoji also hooks me up, too, but I think that's just because he knows my mom is Korean ;) If you're going for food other than sushi, the chefs do a great job putting on a good show. This makes the price of the food a little more expensive, but it can be a good time. It's definitely more fun if you have eight people so that way you can have your whole group at the table and not have to share with another party. It kind be kind of awkward if you and a date are sitting at the table with three other couples, none of you knowing one another. It is so much more enjoyable with a bigger group. The routine is pretty much the same with all the chefs, but some chefs have more personalities than others. If you go often and have the same chef more than once, you'll notice that they don't really change up their routine too much and it might get repetitive. If you have a bad memory, then you won't notice. =)

Pretty much the best real hibachi grill in the area. Has a great atmosphere with the lighting but is very much family and friends vibe. Everyone gets seated before one of the fancy talented chefs come out to put on a fun show full of ooooohhh, awwwws, and yuuumms. You get a great amount of food for what you pay so there's no need for a buffet at this hibachi grill but it is a bit pricey. Try this spot for a special occasion like birthdays and I doubt you will regret it.

We went for my birthday. The chef, our waitress, everyone was very nice. The food was truly excellent. The 'show' that the chef did was great fun. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

This place seems to be run by children with no concept of how a restaurant is run or how to provide good customer service. All we ordered was sushi and this took well over 20 minutes ( not that many other patrons at the time) all due to the sushi chef (chef being to generously applied here) was too busy regaling his co workers with his social life. One of the items was so unappealing visually, that I almost thought it was left overs re-served to me. Not once did they come over to check how our food or service was until the very end- which was of no use at this point. My mother asked for the check it that took repeated requests as the waitress ( not sure which one was ours per se as several absent minded young ladies "waited" on us) When we asked yet again, we were given that " I have no idea what you are talking about face" from the one we originally asked. I finally was so fed up, I asked the hostess to ring us up so that I could pay and get out of the place. The group sitting behind me at the sushi bar was also kept waiting well over 20 minutes for their food- one even stated--- "I forgot what I ordered its taking so long" What with business being slow and the need for more customers- I would have thought that good customer service was standard... I guessed wrong!

Not that impressed. Been to one, you've been to them all. Our office went for lunch and the boss asked us to bring him back take-out since he couldnt leave the office that day. You would have thought this was a simple request but boy was I wrong!! They pitched a fit about placing a carry out order. Apparently they only do Sushi to go. Totally ridiculous that a restaurant would turn down making money because they done want to put it in a box. After a bit of going back and forth they finally agreed to let us get to go for my boss. Afterall he was paying for our lunch so I would have looked pretty bad not coming back with food for him. Once the food came out she brought me a box and the plate of food and told me I would have to put it in the box myself. Ok whatever. I then asked for the sauces that comes with it and they told me they couldnt give those to me to go. I wasnt even arguing about this sillyness. I just put the food in a box, finished eating and left. Needless to say the people around me witnessed all of this and were shocked as well. I was in the restaurant industry for many years when I was younger and really never seen such nonsence. I have waited on a ton of difficult people. But this time it was the server and restaurant being difficult. I was just trying to give them money for sub-par food. This is not the way to stay in business. Should it be such a big deal to get a to go order? Good grief!

Gyoza is horrible, over fried, very greasy and pretty "empty" stuffing. Sushi falls apart easily and rice is very dry. Good portion entrees but I personally think its not worth $30 a plate. Definitely had way better hibachi at cheaper price. Never coming back.

"I love trying sushi whenever possible, this will make me rethink a restaurant that looks more like a bar. It's dinner time, completely empty and the two dishes I tried along with my wife's were dreadful. Do not come here, we wanted to try this place but of changes..."

This place is always crowded. Always. Make a reservation if you don't want to wait for a long time. The sushi is just meh, the hibachi food decent, and it's a bit on the pricey side. It's fun to do occasionally for the show, but the overall feel is a little too much like an assembly line.

Arrived last night at 8:45, party of 3. Was told the kitchen was closed. We said they advertise open until 9:00. Again, we were told the kitchen was closed. Apparently, they just close when ever want. We were told earlier by a local that customer service at this place is awful. We should have listened. Won't be back!

We are from Delaware and was visiting Maryland for a family affair. This is a very nice place to eat. The food was great, portions were nice and the drinks were ok , the bartender didnt quit mix the drinks correctly which were sent back however our cook was very funny and outgoing he made the experience lovely. He tossed shrimp into my nephews mouth without any hesitation. He was perfect!! Totally recommend this place.

Our chef made our meal and our evening! I was here for a birthday party and thoroughly enjoyed myself. I'd always looked from the outside looking in but, never went inside. I had the lobster, filet mignon and shrimp combo. sweet, delcious manna! The yum yum sauce just set it off. The drinks had ample enough liquor and the food was great. I'd suggest this spot for a group gathering.

Kobe can be a hit or a miss depending on which chef you have cooking for you, but it's just dreadful when you have a chef that's heavy handed on the soy and butter. The show that they put on for you is cute and entertaining if you have younger ones. My niece usually lets out a shriek when they do the flames and it feels like it nearly burns your eyebrows off. If you have a more adventurous chef they will get a few laughs out of you and be prepared to catch some shrimp! I always put the napkin up over my blouse so that it doesn't make a huge grease stain when the shrimp slaps you in the face and rolls down onto your shirt haha. I've tried a lot of combinations, but I usually like to opt for the steak and scallops which in my opinion tastes the best and you get the most bang for your buck. The steak is tender and the scallops get a nice charred flavor on the hibachi grill. It can get pretty pricey, so I usually come here once in a blue moon or when I have friends/family in from out of town. The portions are pretty generous and each meal comes with rice, noodles and veggies. If you like sushi, my favorites are the sashimi specials, California cream maki, spicy scallop (it's raw), and yuppy roll (this one's fried). If you're there for a birthday you can order a special that consists of a drink in a (insert asian animal here) mug accompanied by a cheesecake with a candle and the servers who come out with a huge gong and shamelessly sing you happy birthday. The service is alright on most nights, but sometimes the seating can take a while if you have a large party and it tends to get packed on the weekends so I would recommend making a reservation. You can always sit at the bar while you wait and order a drink or opt for sitting at the sushi bar if you don't mind them making your hibachi plate in the back and bringing it to you. Also, you can't get seated until your whole party has arrived so make sure to tell your flaky friends to be on time!

The food and the cook was the only good experience at this place. I guess you can also say I got to feel reverse discrimination while here. My buddy and I came here for a late dinner and we had to wait on my Girlfriend who was caught in traffic. When we got in we told the hostess we have a party of 3 and that we are waiting on her. Then we got seated and where saving a seat when the hostess came back and made us get up and go back to the front after our drinks where already ordered so they could seat a black couple and made us wait with the excuse "need to have all members in our party" this embarrassed us so we told the manager who only gave us 10% off and the issues only got worse from there. While we where waiting for my girlfriend we were told we can't be waiting past 930 or we would have to sit at the bar and not have the opportunity to watch the cook which is the only reason we went. When we finally did get to sit down we noticed there were a party of 5 (who were black) holding not one but three seats for members of their party who were not there yet. And to top everything off the waiter rushed us to paying and would not allow us to wait to determine what kind of tip we would have liked to have issued. I will never go here ever again as well as will advise others as to the food is also incredibly expensive for shitty service.

I had a good experience here...we came for a late lunch so the place was not crowded. The décor was nice and clean - I liked the wooden panel work - we weren't interested in hibachi...maybe next time - we were more or less trying the place out, good Japanese is hard to find. We sat at the sushi counter and the chef was very charming. I was surprised to see that they had Giant Clam, Uni, and Toro - of which I had all three - It was delicious. The chef was very good to offer ample samples - which were greatly appreciated and equally delicious - the Tuna belly was divine! - Yes it is a little pricy - but I felt it was well worth it I was very comfortable here and tried many things I may not have otherwise, squid salad and the seaweed salad - now I'm hooked!! We really had a good time here - we will come back, next time we are in Whitemarsh

Very disappointed with the way their hostess treats people. I called to ask about a reservation and the young lady on the phone answered the phone with hello in a tone as if I was bothering her. Then I ask about a reservation and she was short and quick with me, while cutting me off. That young lady has no manners and should be taught how to properly answer the phone as well as how to talk to customers.

This is a review of the sushi, as we did not do the hibachi.... Came upon this place en route home. My daughter had been away at camp, so she requested sushi (her fav) for dinner. Friday night around 6:30 and no wait, even though the sushi bar section was small (the sushi bar & 5 tables of 4 seats)....hmmm. We ordered gyoza, some maki (2 salmon, 2 tuna, eel & Spider roll), sweet shrimp sushi & tobiko sushi. Pretty much our staple at Japanese restaurants and except for the tobiko, EVERYTHING was different. The gyoza tasted good, but it was definitely made with a different kind of wrap. The sushi....for 1 thing, they were all poorly wrapped & easily fell apart. The salmon & the tuna looked the same.....pale in color. Didn't taste unfresh (is that a word?), but definitely not sushi grade. Eel....some sort of sauce that, again, was different. Can't say it was to my liking & there was a LOT of it. Spider roll....beer batter texture, NOT tempura. Sweet shrimp....I think they passed on cooked shrimp to me & then charged me $9.....a bit more than what I've ever had to pay for the real stuff. And speaking of paying, the cost was at least 30% more than what I've experienced....and this place is in a strip mall! Our tab, which also included 3 juices (NO ALCOHOL), ran us $70 some dollars.

Me and my BF went to this place tonight and it gives us the worst experience of Japanese food. We ordered 4pieces toro but the sushi bar chief just gave us two pieces of cooked toro without any explaining, after my BF tried one of these, we discovered the reason why it was cooked: IT IS NOT FRESH AT ALL!!! I think they are trying to cover the smell and the color! Oh and the uni, it was turing bad as well, no, I can say it was already bad! It literally made me through up! The waiter was nice, he took the toro off of our check, but we still payed for the uni, cause it is not about money and I know I won't come here again!

I went here with a coworker and it was your basic hibachi place. The hibachi chef was very good and friendly, but I have to say that the waiter (just for drinks and all that) was quite inattentive. Overall, it wasn't a bad dinner and hibachi is always entertaining enough to fill in the lulls of conversation (although there are few of those when I'm with the coworker I ate with). The food was decent, but fairly expensive.

I would go here all the time but i will not be returning after today; the waiter was rude, he kept forgetting our drink order, he seem to have an attitude, he would not give my niece a refill on her drink to go which is not true b/c it happened before, he was rushing us out the restaurant, the happy Buddha i ordered tasted like there was no alcohol in it, and the cook/chef did not do the trick where he throw the shrimp up to see who catch it he just cooked our food and left, I will not be returning.

Always great every time I've ever been there. The salad and soup you get in the beginning is delicious and not to heavy. The food is great prepared right in front of you. Go there you will not be disappointed. Would have given it a 5 star but I'm not crazy about sitting with people I don't know. Overall just yummy and good portions! ***The sushi is great too!

I normally would never complain about a restaurant but my experience that I had at this Kobe's was terrible. Being in the restaurant business I understand how difficult it can be. The first lunch we had there was a great experience! Perfect portions & friendly people! My sister and I went to lunch there on a Friday afternoon (September 11th), this was our second time having their lunch menu. The server seemed like she was in over her head the entire time she was helping us. There seemed to be confusion when the chef was reading the ticket that had our orders on it, he looked at it several times through out his cooking. When it came to my food, I got the smallest portion out of every one. The chef kept giving everyone else more chicken or rice or noodles and just completely skipped over me. My portion of chicken was MUCH smaller than that of everyone else's . We called over the manager who told us that the lunch menu was only a four ounce portion. I know what four ounces of meat looks like and looking around the table everyone else had much more than four ounces and I was left with the short end of the stick. He didn't apologize, he only said that they could cook more chicken in the back if I wanted. I said no because he was acting as if it was a burden for him to even be talking to us. After he walked away the chef decided to tell everyone that if we wanted more meat that we should have come to dinner instead of lunch. By this time I was ready to leave due to the complete lack of respect they had for their guests in their establishment. As I said before I never would have said anything but this was by far the worst experience I have ever encountered.

Ok - the only thing I didn't like was the big flames - I was already hot enough and didn't need that at all - thus the reason for the 4 stars! The food was excellent - the price was in par with like places - the chef or whatever you call the guy that plays while cooking was amazing - and the service was great. I never had to ask for more drinks or more dipping sauce or anything - they were all quite attentive to our needs. I would return to this place in a heartbeat - everyone should really check it out. My steak was SO tender and juicy and the shrimp was also amazing - for dinner you get the rice and the noodles - I was STUFFED and lovin it!

I have only been here once, for my work's holiday luncheon. I can't tell you how the food actually tastes, because they didn't listen to my allergies when I placed my order, and in turn I never got to eat anything. I advised right off the bat that I was allergice to mushrooms. Well, when they bring me the soup, it has a huge chunk of mushroom floating in it. They advised me that they cook the soup with mushrooms, so just picking out a mushroom wouldnt work. So they take this away and bring me salad, which has cut up mushroom in it. I sent it back too. When it came time for the show, I reminded our preparer of my allergy. When he started making the fried rice, mushrooms went right into it. At that point I was as fed up as can be. I said good bye to my co workers, and I left to go find someplace who can accomodate someone with allergies.

This is a great place to celebrate a birthday or just have a unique dinner experience with friends. It is also a great place to take out of town guests or hard to please adolescents. The chef is also an entertainer who theatrically prepares you meals tables side. I have not been disappointed with the food. The meats seem fresh and of good quality. I recommend combo entrees like filet minion and shrimp. Mmmm - so tasty! I also highly recommend upgrading to fried rice with you meal (just a few dollars more). Remember to make a reservation, especially for weekends and definitely for holidays. Be sure to let them know if you are celebrating anything special. This is a type of restaurant that everyone should experience at least once. It is also fun to go with others who have not had the hibachi experience yet!

Went on a Sunday night with a group of 7 and had 6:30 reservations. They wouldn't consider seating us until the whole group had arrived (understandable), but even though we were all 5-15 minutes early, we didn't get seated until close to 7:30, and there were issues because they had written down a reservation for 6 instead. Others in the group had been here before and said that the place notoriously runs behind its reservations. The food was good - this was my first time dining here, and I shared the Filet mignon & shrimp combination with my boyfriend, the food was delicious and watching the preparation is a mini show unto itself. For a shared meal, we both got generous portions and weren't charged a sharing fee, which was nice. Although the food was good, this place should really work on better planning the timing of its reservations so diners who have them aren't waiting 45-60 minutes to be seated.

My family and I went to Kobe and spent $380.00 between drinks, our meals and tip. We were seated with 2 couples who had their meals prepared at the same time. As soon as the chef was done putting the food on our plates the checks were handed to us along with boxes. We paid for our meals and my husband went to use the restroom while my mom and I finished our drinks. Before my husband returned a manager was in front of us telling us we needed to leave because we were taking too much time and there was a line at the front. Not only was the food extremely over priced and frankly bland and tasteless but the service was poor and the staff disrepectful. I called and spoke with the manager who said there was nothing he could do about it.

We love Kobe! We always go and sit at the tables in the back for the show while our food is prepared. There are only 2 places I will order steak - Ruth's Chris & Kobe. The filet melts in your mouth. They cook it perfectly every time (medium well) and the sauce is just enough without overwhelming the dish. The rice, noodles, veggies, it's all great! The portions are amazing. My husband and I typically get two meals out of them. I took one star off because of their sushi. I had it today and it just wasn't great. My Alaskan maki was falling apart and my spicy yellowtail had spicy mayo on top that tasted sour. I won't go back for sushi, but for teppenyaki and drinks we'll be long time patrons!

My fiance and I have been going here for years. It's our go to sushi place. Their hibachi portion is huge. I would say good for at least 2-3 meals. Their sushi is great too, very fresh. We always get their Chesapeake roll, Spicy Dynomite and either rainbow roll or crunchy tuna roll. Always comes out great. The staff here are very friendly too.

The customer service here is horrible. As soon as I walked in the door, I explained that I was here for a reservation and provided the name. I was told that the reservation wasn't there. I then contacted the individual that placed the reservation and in speaking with someone else, they were told the reservation was there. After finding out that I was provided incorrect information, I immediately asked the hostess again, if the reservation was there. No one apologized for the error. They just said they were looking at the wrong time. Had they listened to me they would have looked for the name and NOT the time because I never provided a time, NOR did they ask for one!!! While waiting for the remaining members of my party, as I was here 15 mins before our actual reservation time, they two girls at the hostess table kept whispering the entire time. I felt as if they were whispering about me, because they kept looking at me, covering their mouths and then began whispering. This occurred five different times. Everyone else that has walked in the door after me with a reservation was greeted with a smile, asked their time and also asked for their name. Everyone else that walked in also was NOT black, so this really left a sour taste in my mouth. This was my first visit to this restaurant and also will be my last visit!!! I've never experienced anything like this before.

I usually always go to Sakura in Hunt Valley but it was my coworkers birthday. I was starting to get sick so I was not in a good mood right when I walked in the door. There were about twenty of us. They sat the whole party a weird. (cant really explain it ). I was feeling sick and I asked for tea, the tea was cold. I thought they were kind of on the expensive side and the food was just okay. Would I go back? Probably not

Ugh! I didn't like this place at all! Everything from the food, to the service, to the lack of cleanliness, to the noise level was just not my cup of tea. I would never step foot back into that location again. My food was inedible. It was just awful. I imagine this place is popular due to the hibachi, but otherwise it is not worth it

Absolutely one of the best Japanese steak houses around. From the soup and salad and then moving onto the fried rice just enough seasoning, not overkill. Lo Mein. And then the fresh cut seasoned veggies. Yum yum sauce and they got it right yum yum indeed. I always do the number 12 filet with shrimp. Great choice. You can never go wrong. My husband and son order the number 19 lobster scallops and filet. This is their favorite. Plum wine sweet to the taste and refreshing. Plan to bring your wallet. Great food comes with a price

Kobe is a pretty decent place. I go there once a year, usually for a birthday. It's excellent for that. Like most hibachi restaurants, this is a place where you bring a bunch of people and all get seated around the grill. You get your drinks, and order your food, and then eventually a person shows up and starts making volcanoes out of oil & onions, starts doing tricks with the cooking utensils, tossing shrimp pretty accurately into people's mouths, etc. That's always a neat show, and the performers will always do a little series of tricks (volcanoes made of onions and fire, tossing eggs into their hat, throwing shrimp into your mouth, etc), but they can tell if the audience is interested or not. If you bring kids and those kids are really thrilled by all the tricks, you'll probably get a more fun show than if your group is all work-weary adults who just want to get to the food. Either way, these guys are great. Food is what you'd expect. Fried rice drenched in butter with several additional sauces available. Noodles in the same fashion, and vegetables, too. Then depending on what you ordered, you'll get a variety of different meats or seafoods to add into your dish. It's not out of this world, but it's not bad. Feel free to apply the sauces with wild abandon. Unless you are impressively hungry, you will have leftovers to take home, so the quantity is great. Price isn't even too bad, either. That's why I think it's popular for birthdays. You fit a lot of people to a table and the price sets the experience as nice, but not too nice that most people would be balking. The Charleston, this is not. In short, I'd say this is a fun & respectable place but I don't expect that my last words on my deathbed will be anything like, "If only I went to Kobe more often..."

Let me first say that if you get the RIGHT chef, the experience could be great... I first experienced Kobe August 2013. I would say since then, I've gone at least 6 times, each with different experiences. My last experience was on Monday, 10/13/14... and boy did it suck. The server got our order wrong. The chef was horrible, and this is no exaggeration. I don't know if he was new or what, all I know is NO. He did not season the food well at all, his serving portions were the smallest I've ever seen, and his "show" was anything but. I've never used so much yum yum sauce in my life. To make sure we weren't being biased, we asked around the table to see if anyone enjoyed their food, but the general consensus was no. Steaks were overcooked, food under seasoned, way too much soy sauce on broccoli. Just overall, I wish I could have given the food back. Considering I spent $84 to be disappointed, we will be taking a hiatus in hopes that they will improve. We started off so well but now....

I've been here a couple of time to have sushi and other plates besides the hibachi... I have to say the sushi is average at best. It does have comfortable sitting and the waiter/waitress and staff have been helpful and attentive to the tables. It is usually very busy there being near the mall. Have waited a short time to be seated but again I haven't sat at the hibachi tables. Not sure I'll go back for sushi anytime soon.

I came here on Memorial Day with two friends after I told them I've never eaten here before, I've been to hibachi places before, so it's not like I was out of the loop. I ordered sushi as well as hibachi chicken. My sushi was both good and meh. My maguro nigiri was excellent. My pickled radish roll was meh. The hibachi dinner I got was fantastic and I had enough food for lunch the next day. But to be honest almost every hibachi place I've been to has always had great food. And I must make a special note of this: One of my friends is allergenic to raw onion. The chef and waitresses were very careful about preparing his food so he wouldn't get sick, and he really appreciated it.

Fun place for birthdays and my kids have always enjoyed watching the chef. I love the fried rice. I always get the hibachi chicken and it is extra yummy with the yum yum sauce.... And unless you can actually eat a horse you will have left overs, a lot of left overs! Kobe punch is good too.

Food is always fresh , hot and taste very fresh. You get more than your money's worth. The wait to be seated is quick even if you call head. Cooks are very entertaining while they prepare your food. Always enjoy coming back, food and service will impress you on each visit.

Stopped in on a whim because we were in the area and, WOW, what a pleasant surprise!! We had the filet mignon entree. It was tender as can be and seasoned well. I added the ginger dipping sauce to it and it put it over the top. The lo mein was also very good and the fried rice was MUCH better than any carryout I've ever had. The service was good and our chef was entertaining. Great place to go with a large group of your friends for a fun night out.

On a Saturday night, this place is packed! Even with reservations, it was still a long wait. The food is nothing spectacular. It was good, but not WOW!. They are definitely about quantity and not quality. The sauces were OK, but nothing too special. It's your typical hibachi grill food. Our Hibachi chef was very entertaining, definitely knew all of the hibachi tricks. Wasn't particularly chatty, but definitely served up a good show. Service was a bit slow or unresponsive. I requested white rice instead of the fried rice, and I never got it. I asked for water, never got it. Probably due to the packed house, they were probably over whelmed and the wait staff had a hard time keeping up. Overall, you come here for the Hibachi show and you enjoy the company of your friends. This place is a lot more fun as a group than as a date night as evident by the people that sat across from us...they did not look like they were having a fun date night...probably because we were having a very fun and obnoxious birthday party on our side of the table.

As far as hibachi grills go, this place is just average. My experience was fine but nothing more. One thing I like about this location is that my Filet Mignon was high quality and done perfectly to my liking. Also, if you get an entree, you get lo mein and not just fried rice. Definitely a perk. I got the Filet Mignon & Shrimp combo, along with a glass of Cabernet, and my bill (with tip) was $48. The hibachi chefs are mediocre, though. In my experience, they do their thang with minimal interaction with the crowd. I like when my hibachi chefs crack jokes and have charisma. Because, I mean, I can YouTube a clip of someone doing tricks with a spatula and eggs. Anyhow... If you're looking for an OK hibachi experience, come here. The waitresses are mediocre, the food is decent enough, the chefs can do cool tricks but won't knock your socks off with their personalities. Just....eh. Maybe I'll be back in a year when I get the hibachi itch once again.

I come here for sushi so often that the sushi chefs probably recognize me by now. I'm a sushi fanatic and Kobes is one of my favorite places to eat sushi! If you want special sushi, like more than just your typical, basic California roll, then I highly recommend coming to Kobes! The front of the restaurant serves as a sushi bar and is self-seated. The back is the hibachi grill and requires seating by a hostess. The Chesapeake roll is truly an incredible creation by the sushi chefs and a definite must-have!

I was not impressed with this resturant. Ceiling tiles are soiled and bulging. Staff were not friendly. There was a charge for a large party; however we recieved no services above if we came in individually (we still would have sat together, without the 18% service charged to each individual check). The resturant was HOT and STICKY. I couldn't pack my food fast enough, because I couldn't even enjoy it was so hot in there. Why have closed in rooms with open fires? Very hot. Nothing special for bday person, well--there would have been if we paid an additional $13 which would have included a hit or to on a gong. Very over priced. I went all out only because it was my first visit, and last. And no wi-fi for all that money. I get free wi-fi at the mall. Pa-lease!

My work had a holiday lunch here. We had a reservation for 14 people, but few ended up running late. The host and hostess were not very accommodating for us to get seated and wait for others. They stated the grill has to be heated and that required 20min. So late arrivals wouldnt be able to eat with the group. Then they told us our group would be split up be two tables and people who are not a part of us would be seated as well. This was annoying. Once we were seated, it seemed like we waited 40 min to get drinks, order and wait for the chefs. This made no sense to the whole 20min deal said previously. A few on the group ordered just sushi. Everyone had gotten their hibachi food and eaten by the time sushi came out. The sushi bar area was not busy. Sushi was just ok and really over priced. Miso soup was gross, tasted like a Lipton soup mix, didn't have any miso murky-ness at all. On a positive note, people who got the hibachi said the food was good.

The food was good, on the expensive side. The chef of course was good, but not as exciting and personable as some in other restaurants I have been to. The waiter had no personality and was bland. A major complaint. This may seem petty, but with the prices as high as they are, charging an extra $2 for fried rice , which was just white rice with a few aromatics and seasoned butter, really sorry of just irked me. Really? That kind of thing puts me off restaurants like this. I think I probably prefer Sakura in Bel Air to Kobe. And one more thing. What is it with this -- our chef kept referring to me as "Mama". That is something I had heard of...younger people addressing older women in that manner. But this is the first time I got it first hand and I did NOT appreciate it one bit. If you ever think to do that, DON'T. I will sock the next offender in the head! And I decided to deduct a star due to the pain I feel in reliving it.

The yum-yum sauce is where its at! Kobe's may be a bit more expensive than other Japanese steakhouse's, but the portions are also 2x the size. These portions could feed you for at least two meals... you will most definitely not go hungry. I also may be a bit biased about Kobe's because I met Mark Reynolds, the Orioles first baseman (who I am in love with) and he shared his vegetables with me... I cant really say any other place can offer ,me that same option! Stories to last me a lifetime at Kobe's :)

Service is awful, in fact so bad that I just couldn't get beyond that to really enjoy anything. This is an overpriced showy hibachi establishment. There are places with better food at a lower price. Go there.

Okay, me and the ladies arrived to Kobe's this Friday evening. We were promptly seated, after our last guest arrived. The server took our orders and the food demo quickly started. Our demo guy was BORING! He barely said two words and his tricks were lame! I am a fan of their fried rice, so I got extra....as the evening ended, we barely had time to chat after the meal. We were quickly shoved our to-go boxes. As I filled my to-go box with my yummy fried rice, I noticed a hair!! Sadly, This hair was not mine :(. I talked to the manager, and they resolved this issue by taking the fried rice off of my bill....Their solution was amicable, but I was still disappointed, because of love their fried rice!

We stop by Kobe once every couple of years. It's always consistent. The sushi bar is as good as most. (Always sit at the bar, talk to the chef.) Eating at the hibachi tables is dependent on the group your seated with (as well as the chef). I find it is always best to be seated with families with little kids. Their fascination and amusement is contagious. The food is always good. Nothing beats food, mere seconds off the griddle. (Especially their fried rice.) It's a unique dinning experience, every one should eat here at least once.

We went to Kobe for my boyfriends birthday with five other people. It was a Tuesday so there was no wait. Seven of us fit comfortably at the table while another couple joined us for their birthday. I agree with all the other reviews. If you are awkward with random strangers eating dinner at the same table as you I suggest sitting in the sushi bar or going with a group. This other couple seemed to enjoy us. They offer a birthday package for 12 dollars which is nice. You get a cup (we picked a glass Buddha cup) that they put your drink in (we got the zombie one), sing happy birthday, take a picture of your party and bring out a cheesecake for the birthday person. The price range of Kobe is similar to every other Japanese steak house. Average entree for dinner is 30 dollars (give or take). It comes with soup, salad, two pieces of shrimp, white rice, veggies and your choice of meat. It's enough food to eat for three days. Everyone in our party enjoyed their food. We all got a range of scallops, shrimp, steak and chicken. No one seemed to have complaints. The alcohol drinks are decently priced for the place. Most mixed drink/cocktails were 7.95! Tasty and loaded with booze! They offered beer for 3.25 to 5 dollars. They even had tall boys of Japanese beer for 8 dollars. For my boyfriend and my self: two entrees, birthday package, a few drinks, tip and tax came up to a 120 dollars. You spend "money" but you get your money's worth. Our chef was entertaining and lively. He joked around with our group and was very interactive. I enjoyed my time here. I would love to go again. But, regardless of getting my money's worth, two twenty-something's can't afford too many $120 dollar nights.

I don't eat sushi. I don't eat sushi. I don't eat sushi. Ok, now that that's out of the way, I am only commenting on the hibachi tables and food. Kobe is AWESOME. I have been here about 20 times with never a complaint. It is, by FAR, the best japanese in the area. Sakura doesn't even come close. The portions are huge. The meat is always cooked to perfection. And the fillet mignon, is actually fillet mignon. It certainly tastes like prime beef, though I haven't asked. They give you fried rice AND noodles with your meal.(I'm a noodle fan.) No other japanese steakhouse I've been to in the area does that. Sure the prices are $2-$3 more than other steakhouses, but with the amount of food and the extras, it's well worth the price.

This is the only place I've found (yet) in this area that serves Giant Clam, Uni, and Toro. Eat one of each of these things, your bill will come to $60, so that's no fun. But it's very fresh and extremely tasty...and my sushi chef was engaging and heavy on the samples :).

  • Elizabeth J.

Mediocre fish and mediocre service. I ordered the mirugai (market price) and instead of the fresh, delicious giant clam sashimi that comes with 3 or 4 pieces with fresh lemon I got two dried up and shriveled pieces of clam, over a ball of rice. For two pieces of fish that cost $18 I would expect them to be fresh and presented beautifully. They make decent rolls if you stick to the plain inexpensive stuff, go for salmon, yellow tail, or tuna rolls. Many rolls are friend or covered in oversized dallops of thick spicy Japanse mayo. The green mussels were mostly mayonaisse and fake crab baked into an oyster shell, not good. If you are going here for the sushi, keep it simple.

If u go I suggest the hibachi dining. I loved it!!! For those of u who do not know, the chef prepares the food in front of u. Our chef was amazing, he kept us entertained with his different fire, and knife tricks. He also tried to get everyone that was seated around the grill involved, which helped us to meet new people. I had the shrimp & steak & it was delicious. I will be returning I may even have a birthday dinner here.

White Marsh's Hibachi. Chef's are funny, which is a major plus for me, never like the chef that just cooks. The sushi is so-so, I have had bad fish here twice. They do have a decent lunch special for sushi, so I will still take my chances from time to time, but always recommend Chopstix for sushi, by far the best around! As with all Hibachi places, it is too much food! I always leave beyond full. I personally love the "yum yum" sauce and the chef usually doubles me up and if I still need more, graciously keeps pouring as we go. They won't sit you until your whole party is present, so be prepared for that...makes sense at the Hibachi table, but not in the regualr dining room/sushi area.

Disclaimer: This review is based solely on the sushi and the service at the front. My cousin wanted to try the hibachi grill but the wait was ridiculous since it was a Saturday night so we settled for just a sushi dinner. The sushi bar is at the front of the restaurant where people were waiting for the hibachi. The large crowd made the place feel noisy and crammed. Everyone holding the doors opened, entering, and exiting let in a cold draft. My green tea was chilled in no time. The crowds, noise, and temperature made my dining experience an unpleasant one. As for the food... This is the first sushi place I've gone to in the states that don't serve soup and/or salad with their combos. I was worried the rolls were going to be small and overpriced. Luckily, the rolls did not disappoint. My cousin and I split 4 rolls between us. I recommended the dynamite roll--it's very big and filling, crispy on the outside.

There is simply no better fried rice! There is the fun of the whole teppanyaki experience. But I go for the rice. And I always order double. I go there so much, the chefs were beginning to know us by name. But that's because I just can't get enough of that rice. The rest of the food is great too. And you get a ton of it. We are always bringing it back home with us. The sushi is very good as well. I love the dressing on the salad too.

Eh... I know this place is known for their hibachi but a friend and I just stopped by here to get some sushi. We ordered spicy tuna, yellowtail and scallion roll, and a spicy scallop roll. The yellowtail was fine; it tasted fresh and not too fishy (though in general, yellowtail tends to be fishy). The spicy scallop roll and the spicy tuna were drowning in spicy mayo so the rolls were indistinguishable until we dug in. They were decent, but there was so much sauce, that was all I could really taste. Overall, the experience was lacking since the food was just okay. Maybe we would've had more fun if we'd done the hibachi (though prices say we wouldn't). The staff was really friendly and attentive, but I'm not sure I'd dine here again.

I've taken the family here for birthday celebrations many times and haven't been disappointed with the experience. Kobe offers the Habachi chef show with all the tricks and fun. I like the decor, its very comfortable except the waiting area can be chilly in the winter with everyone coming and going. While I'm not a fan the sushi in the bar/waiting area looks beautiful. The food in general is bland and homogeneous. Everything(rice/noodles sauce kinda tastes the same. I love the soup, its de-lish. Great for special occasions but that's about it.

My Family and I went to Kobe on Saturday night. This was a mistake. First my request for no eggs in the rice due to an intolerance of eggs was greeted with anger by the wait staff. My food it was decided was going to be cooked in the back and not with everyone's food at the hibachi table. This was fine, except I received my food after three attempts 20 minutes after everyone else had finished eating. The waitress and the kitchen had forgotten about my order. The next big shock was the check. For $130 bill for 3 adults and a child we could have eaten at a better establishment. We will not be back.

If I am paying almost $30 dollars for a plate of food I expect the shrimp to have their shrimp poop removed. This has happened more than once so if you eat shrimp there look out, unless you like shrimp feces. Other than that food is ok. Salad dressing is awesome. And the sushi is so so but drowned in whatever sauce that comes with what you ordered. Everything is overpriced but with little competition in this area for teppanyaki they stay busy here.

As far as Benihana-style restaurants go, Kobe is perfectly acceptable. It's exactly what you'd expect: a sushi chef twirls a knife, makes an onion volcano, and puts on a little show. The food is served to you after it's cooked a foot from your face. And it's good food. However, the real reason to visit Kobe is actually the sushi bar. No, really. The sushi chefs they've hired are fantastic, and I've had the best sushi in the Baltimore area HERE. I always get the dynamite roll, and mix in a few other specials to mix it up. The bartenders are all friendly and small-towney, actually, and ESPN is always on.

To piggy back off of my Sakura review, I want to leave a quick comment for those considering dining at Kobe. A friend and I stopped by Kobe after work. We were seated with a couple other people and didn't have to wait long before our chef came. Bla bla bla, the show. Whatever, just put the food on my place. Now here's where this place, for me, shines. But before I continue, lemme say this: It's expensive, YES, this is true. If you're a cheap ass tight wad or you just want a quick bite and don't care about quality, go to McDonalds and check out their 99 cent value menu (like $1.07 with tax). For the rest of you who are willing to fork over a bit of money for good foor (and a TON of it), continue reading: This chef put so much food on my plate, I had to take my fork and help keep it on. He piled my plate nice and high, and I enjoyed every fork full of it, even past the point that my stomach was screaming for mercy -- mercy I didn't grant. I believe I had the shrimp and steak, which is why it was about a $30+ meal, but again, worth it. Now some reviewers here comment on a specific dish, or sushi - I can't comment on that. All I know is that the run-of-the-mill shrimp and steak meal is amazing. If the price was a wee lower it'd be 5 stars, but as it stands, it's a solid 4.

huge portions, fun show, mediocre food. i don''t know why, but i just love watching the chefs at hibachi grills... it's all the same tricks, but I enjoy it. the portions here are humongous - with each hibachi entree, it comes with salad, soup, rice (fried upon request and $2 charge), noodles, veggies, and 2 pieces of shrimp. I really like this part of the meal because when it comes to my meat - I've tried the chicken, steak, and shrimp - it always seems to be overcooked. The flavors are simple, yet satisfying. The sushi is not bad either - i only tried their rolls. They have a good selection that tasted pretty good and I didn't get food poisoning afterward.

Im a huge fan of this place. I would rate them 4.5-5.0 They serve up A LOT OF FOOD.. so you get your money worth. Went there on my 18th b-day and enjoyed it. The chef had more then a lot of personaility so he made it more pleasent and enjoyable. I cant think of not one bad thing about this place. Recommand this for b-day parties for teens-adults

I don't know of many hibachi style Japanese steakhouses in this area, so I gave Kobe a chance back in 2010. I was not impressed with the food at all. If they didn't give you yum yum sauce, it would have been even more plain. The food had no flavor. I went again in February 2013 just for sushi lunch and the sushi was delicious, but everything else wasn't too great. The waitress was not friendly, we could tell the chefs were gossiping about us which made things awkward and I had to ask for yum yum sauce twice even though there was no one else in the restaurant. Good sushi, boring hibachi, and crappy service!

  • Michelle B.

I'm not a fan of sushi and I didn't eat it... That said. The atmosphere was fun, and the portion size was well worth it. Quality ingredients. Make a reservation and be sure to be prompt. We waited about an hour and a half. If you have a dairy allergy, look out. The servers ask if there are any allergies (I said dairy) she then said I won't have a problem. However, I don't think you can have the "Yum Yum" sauce and ask that your meat, noodles, rice etc. not have "garlic butter". I have a call into the restaurant to see a. what's i the yum yum sauce and garlic butter b. to have them inform their servers about those allergies. Otherwise, it's a good once in a while treat.

I was looking for a Benihana kind of place in the Baltimore area and was recommended this place. The hibachi grill chef was excellent. But the waiter seemed a little cranky. I will definitely give them another try though. The food was really good and well portioned. They gave you soup, salad, rice (regular or fried), noodles, two shimp as an appetizer, and your entree. You won't go away hungry.

How can I be more disappointed in Kobe? Wait for the bill. Yep. There it is. Some of the most bland food I've ever had. I went for a birthday party and wasn't paying so I feel fortunate about that. I ordered the chicken hibachi because it was under $20 and I had a feeling I would not be able to justify spending a dollar more. We ordered the rainbow roll off the sushi menu and it had to be the most bland tasting $14 roll I ever had. The only way this roll could have been worse is if they slapped me when they brought it out and then dumped it in my lap. The soy sauce was beyond salty. Yes yes, I know soy sauce hovers around 1400mg of sodium. Those who give a shit serve light soy sauce but this sauce tasted like super concentrated soy sauce. Who needs that? I couldn't even use the sauce after the first bite because it was over soy. So I was left with an even more bland overpriced roll. ~sigh~ The hibachi routine was weak and tired. Spin an egg and juggle some utensils. Aim some baby shrimp at my face and toss it behind me. Great. Thanks. What? One more try? OK, shoot. Yep. On the floor. And I'm paying for this show. After I was finally served the food was...yes, bland. The yum-yum sauce, although people swear that this is the splooge of the gods, was no more exciting then watching it being ladled out for me. Oh but the portions are enormous. I guess that's good. Now I have a tower of Styrofoam boxes in my fridge to act as a reminder never to go to Kobe again. Can we go back to Baltimore now?

I've never been to one of these Benihana rip off places before. I guess I'm more interested in the food than the show. We had to wait til they had enough people to fill up a table before we were seated. Given who sat with us, I think it cut down on the fun we were supposed to have. There was a new couple that were totally engrossed in each other. A couple of guys on business, with one guy's gf sitting on one other side. The guy in the middle alternately ignored either his girl or the business customer. Both people looked bored to tears. The chef at our table didn't really talk too much smack and nobody was tremendously impressed with his knife skills. He did set the grill aflame, which caused me to ask one of my companions if she would mind penciling my eyebrows back in before we did business the next day. The shrimp lobbing segment was also a bust. He pooched mine about 5 feet past my head. Too much wrist. The food was meh. I had some overcooked noodles and meat. The best part of the meal was the vegies. I wasn't impressed with the taste, but at least I can say I did it. For $25, I thought it wasn't too bad. If this was a $40 event, my rating would have been 2 stars. I need that extra money to get the eyebrows done, ya know.

This is an average at best Japanese Steak House (J.S.H.). After dining here on at least half a dozen occasions, I have concluded that the food is genuinely tasteless. I'm sorry, but the only real reason to come here is for the grill show. You will be amazed by an array of trickery including the flame up, egg toss and onion volcano. Your best bet here for the money is the fillet steak. It lends its self to this cooking style a bit better than the other cuts of beef and when they come out with the raw portions on the tray, your piece will be the envy of the table. The showmanship of the chefs is wonderful and probably a cut above other J.S.H.s. The prices are a bit north of where they need to be and BTW this is not the place at all to order sushi. Don't do it. There are far better places in the immediate area for less. Enjoy the show and maybe you'll be lucky enough to catch a piece of shrimp in your mouth.
