So, I go here a lot because it's around the corner. It's just what I expect to eat when I go to a caribbean eatery. The food is consistent, I have no complaints. Negril never disappoints. They have the best coco bread anywhere though, I've rarely had better. The fruit punch is the absolute best! My husband loves the jerk chicken, I'm a curry goat/ oxtail girl. Dinner comes with stir-fry veggies (caribbean stir-fry is cabbage w/ various mixed veggies) and rice and peas (small red beans and rice cooked with coconut milk and seasoning) for the unfamiliar. Never had a better jerk chicken sandwich anywhere. Jerk chicken sandwich comes with lettuce, jerk chicken and sesame dressing on coco bread. YUM! The patties are good too, they have beef, chicken and veggie. Don't expect to have your socks knocked off with fall-all-over-you service because that's not the caribbean way, but the good food is. So just order and eat.

The food wasn't spectacular but it was decent and my order came quickly enough.

Where do I start? Nastiest so called jamaican food I've ever had. The jerk chicken was dry and tasteless. Peas and rice were not the traditional Jamaican staple. After eating home cooked Jamacian food in Jamacia, I doubt I'll find anything close to that in the DMV. Definitely not this ratchet place!

Pretty dang good!!!! I got the rice and peas with gravy and the beef patties and lemme tell you, it was great! Lol full of flavor and a good price for the amount of food your getting! The coco bread is tasty too nice and sweet, very comforting food! Better than Popeyes and Chinese food next to it that's for sure

Ok I know I gave a better review before but what happen to the patties? Went there this evening and the patties were not even chewabl, crust only! Chicken and beef disappeared! I called 4 times and waited on hold for 6 minutes (the initial call) , I hang up call back twice to be rudely placed on hold then again she set the phone down and hung up. Finally I asked for manger told her you never just place a person on hold you ask them cs101! However I will be bringing the patties back and want my refund. Never again for a patty! Dry dry dry. Non chalant ride attitude will get you know where.

There fish sandwiches and coco bread are the bomb. They're absolutely the best thing they have. But I can't forget about their chicken roti which is also tremendous! Negril is the way to go if you enjoy Jamaican food.

Best jerk chicken sandwich EVER and the rum cake is in my top 3!

I'm finally doing my review after visiting here a million times. I get the same thing everytime: beef patty, coco bread, carrot cake and a pineapple soda. And I have no complaints what so ever. The staff here are wonderful and so polite. I have purchased beef patty and coco bread from other places, and I swear that it's a frozen patty and bread that is then microwaved, but not at Negril. Everything is fresh and delicious and so inexpensive. That's why I keep coming back.

SSsooo I have been going to this Negril for over 5 years. When I first started going here I just loved there food! From the Coco Bread, Oxtails, Jerk Wings, Carrot Cake was phenomenal. But unfortunately the last 3 times I have been there which is over the past year I've noticed that the quality of the food has gone down. Oxtails aren't tender like they used to be. Cabbage taste has lost it's soul and kick. Rice and beans were just ok. Now I avoid this spot and head straight to Muffin Man when I can or just don't go at all. Just not worth it anymore. Very disappointing.

I would give this establishment a 5 based on their rum cake. It is consistently moist and delicious. The service brings the overall number down. I've been here more times than I can count and the majority of the times the services is mediocre. The rum cake is like the pied piper and lulls me in every time. Their chicken roti and veggie stew are decent. I typically like my cabbage soft, however I must say I do like their crunchy version. I like that they have a nice selection of Ever Fresh bottled drinks. I believe the flavors at this establishment are for American franchise pallets. Pretty good, however not authentic flavors. I must add that their Sorrel is pretty good.

Once again, I feel the need to give a lesser review for good food due to poor customer service. *sigh* I had lunch here the other day. My jerk chicken, rice, and cabbage were pretty tasty. My coco bread (my favorite) was delicious. The ginger beer was as expected. However, the service left a not-so-good taste in my mouth. Since I now consider myself to be a Southern girl, I approached the counter with a smile and a "Hello. How are you today?" in greeting. I was met with a stony glare and a flat intonation of "How can I help you?". Okay. I placed my order and walked away from the counter. My food took maybe five minutes to prepare. But it took 20 minutes for me to receive it because no one told me it was ready. I had to walk up to the counter, endure more stony glares, wait for someone to look at the collection of to-go bags, acknowledge me, then call my order number as if I wasn't standing right there. She handed me the bag with no apologies, after having seen me pacing up and down the aisle while waiting for my order. Nice. Also, I was not asked if my order was to-go or eat-in. But I did remember to tell the cashier who rang me up. She told someone in the kitchen then promptly turned back to tell me my order was already in a to-go box. I said "That's fine", assuming my order would still be put on a tray. The cashier who rang me up did leave the front area soon after she took my order and did not return while I ate my meal. So maybe there was just a disconnect? However, the two other cashiers were milling about when I said I would eat in the place... Any who, after I relayed this account to a friend, she told me about another Jamaican eatery where the staff is friendlier and the food tastes better. Guess who gets my business next go-round.

If you've a hankering for Jamaican, you can eat here. Just don't have an expectation of greatness. The coco bread was excellent though. I had the jerk chicken with rice and peas and cabbage with mixed veggies (weird/interesting). The chicken had one moment of really tasty, but the rest was just edible. The rice/peas needed... something. The cabbage with limas, carrots, peas, and green beans, was OK too. The husband had the fricassee chicken with the same sides. His chicken was flavored well but dry. If I am in the area and I absolutely have to have some Jerk, then I MIGHT considering going again.

I really feel that this place is average is best. I've eaten here several times when craving Jamaican and have had both jerk and curry chicken that were "just ok" and far from authentic. Had a curry goat roti that was slightly better... Chicken soup I had recently was watery and oily. I guess I would stop in here for a patty and that's about it. If I have a choice of food in this strip-mall, I would choose Popeyes!
(2)Frank O.
Very good food here. I had the goat curry with rice and beans and cabbage. Very tasty. The goat was not gamey and the curry had great flavors without being all heat. Definitely a good and different spot to hit for lunch.

The lunch special of jerk chicken on their homemade bread with fresh fruit punch is worth the trip.

This place is simply OK, I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here. The vegetable roti is...interesting. It's a take on stewed vegetables; nothing special but it will hold you over if you're hungry. The annoying thing is that the other rotis on the menu come with rice & peas but not the vegetable roti. What's up with that? The coco bread is alright. Yes, it is soft but the flavor is a touch off. I'd probably eat it again but, based off of some other reviews, I expected it to be better than it was. The vegetable pattie is nasty. If you go there and start to think 'Oh that review was probably exaggerated, it can't be that bad,' you're not alone - I did it too. Save your stomach and your money and choose something else. I received a nicely puffed pastry and, no lie, 3/4 of it was air. Hello, filling? They use frozen mixed vegetables (mine tasted like it was from an old, freezer burnt bag) with some peppery stuff (had a decent flavor) that kind of plasters it to the bottom of the pastry. G-A-R-B-A-G-E! The quality of service can vary. My first time, the girl behind the cash register was a bit rude. Not in a vulgar way but she definitely needed an attitude adjustment. My next visit, the cashier (different girl) was quite professional. Management seriously needs to work on this. Overall: It isn't the worst establishment (especially if you're just in the area and REALLY hungry) but I'd go elsewhere.
(3)S B.
Pros: Quick service Coco bread was delicious Beef patty was also good Cons: Jerk chicken was extremely dry (thank god they included a container of sauce) The rice was dry as well (as if it was sitting under a warmer for a long time) Iffy: Cabbage was crunchy The fricassee (brown-stewed) chicken was okay, not the best I'd give this restaurant a 2.5 but that's not an option. Might come here again for the beef patty and coca bread but would get food elsewhere bc I feel there are better options.

The food is good but the attitude of the workers are terrible. I got the Oxtail dinner and it was good. Small minority businesses need to realize that customer service is important and if it is poor that they will loose customers and eventually go out of business. I hope they read their yelp reviews because it seems like I'm not the only one who has had to deal with a worker with a bad attitude.
(3)Rudy H.
The food can be pricy (jerk chicken with cabbage $8.50 plus tax) but OK. What more annoying is the wait, seems to be a lot of conversations behind the counter and kitchen which results in slow service. I only go to this place maybe five times a year, if that because of the slow service.
(2)Tasha P.
Delicious and reasonably priced. Love the oxtails dinner and veggie patty. Also, very fast service and clean. You could eat here if you wanted to but we always carry out. Love this place and order from there at least once a week.

Tasty Treats: - Patties (Curry Chicken & Spicy Beef) - Entrées (Oxtail, Jerk Chicken, Curry Goat) Not as Tasty: - Roti Skin

Eat the jerk chicken. Decent.

The fried perch sandwich is delicious! It's served on their coco bread and I could barely wait to get home to eat it. They put cheese on it, which is not something I'd usually like to put on a fish sandwich but it was okay. Next time I'll ask what comes on the sandwich because there was no description offered on the dry erase board. There was some sort of sauce on it too...kind of sweet. Not my favorite but surprisingly it didn't mask the flavor of the fish. Next time, if it's on the menu, I'd get this sandwich without cheese and switch the sauce to a jerk sauce.

Negril is a great spot for quick & delicious Jamaican food. Their beef patties are great, as is their jerk chicken. What really does it for me is the fact that Ting, Cream Soda and other Carribean brand drinks are available as well. There are desserts (like gizzada) but they aren't that great. Their coco bread is fantastic however. It's great for carryout, but I have sat in the small seating area for a quick lunch from time to time. I recommended it wholeheartedly for casual dining.

Three words....Jerk Chicken Sandwhich! I always have to get one when I go here and the coco bread that the jerk chicken is in only makes it that much better. The beef and chicken patties aren't for the feint of tongue (they're really spicy) but they're good as well. Definately stop by here and at least try their jerk chicken sandwhich if you're in the DC area but have never been.

To me, Negril is just a quick grab & go carry-out. Decent beef patty & cocoa bread. Jerk chicken sandwich is OK. Main Courses: Goat & Chicken curries SUCK!!! They have no flavor at all and taste like a salt lick. Utter Garbage.

Tasty, friendly and clean Caribbean place. The latter two were hard to find back in Chicago, as I remember it. Today was my first visit and I tried one of my favorite dishes, Curry Goat. Lots of meat (a little less sauce than I would have liked, my only complaint) served over a large pile of fluffy rice and peas alongside a small portion of salad with a flavorful dressing. Order at the counter, eat in or take out. Friendly workers were willing to make suggestions on everything from food to drink. The dessert cakes looked absolutely delicious but I'm trying to watch my figure so I skipped the added calories. Situated in a strip mall (the horror!) with a very congested and confusing parking lot but worth the aggravation.

The coco bread is GREAT!! I ordered a beef patty which was delicious, and I ordered a fish sandwich which was served in the coco bread. It was the best fish sandwich I have ever had. I will suggest this place to anyone. I will go back and try the jerk drumettes.

Real deal Jamaican cuisine! The hot sauce is a must try, it's homemade and scorching. We had curried vegetables, patties, plantains and coco bread. All delicious. The homemade fruit punch was incredible as well. With the classic reggae playing, all that was missing was the sound of surf.

Disclaimer: This review is solely based on customer service. In order to be employed at this restaurant, you must have a bad attitude! Anyways, my mom wanted to get a small platter of jerk chicken wings for an event that she was having at her office (about 20 wings). Before we left the house, we called Negril about three times and no one answered the phone. So, we decided to drive to the restaurant to see if we could place an order. We called around 7PM because we were fully aware that they closed at 9PM. Now, I've been eating at Negril for years, and their customer service has never been great, but this time it was awful. My mother and I walk up to the counter and explain how we were interested in purchasing a SMALL platter of wings. First, of all, the woman at the counter automatically tells us "no" and that she doesn't have any chicken available for that portion. Then, she turns around and starts yelling towards the kitchen asking if they had any jerk chicken available. As she was yelling, the people in the kitchen were yelling back and giving her mixed answers. Eventually, the loud obnoxious woman at the counter turns back around and says, "No we don't have any jerk chicken available for that size". She then proceeded to give my mother and I a lecture on how we should've called earlier and placed an order and how this request was too big (We did call almost 1 hour before, but no one answered). She also tried to lecture us about the restaurants hours and how they were closing soon and we came in too late to order such a "large" portion. She was very loud, obnoxious, and ridiculous. We were so annoyed with this unprofessionalism! As we were leaving one of the guys who worked at Negril came up to us and basically explained that there was jerk chicken available and he would be able to get it ready for us. He was so sweet and patient, unlike the other ridiculous woman at the register (I am giving them two stars because of his kind attitude). If you hate your job so much, you should find another one. Who would turn down money simply because you don't feel like doing your job? Oh a lazy person...I am not eating here again. They are unprofessional and lazy. It's sad because their food is actually pretty decent. They should consider giving their employees costumer service training. I will take my money elsewhere.

Love love love the vegetable stew and roti! The rum cake is devine! Always have to grab some sorrel when I'm there too, thirsty or not! It's especially good to get if one is feeling under the weather. My son likes the veggie patties and coco bread, and of course the cookies. ;)

not good food I wish i went to just jerk in Lanham Md instead. I ordered the jerk chicken chicken had no spice to it, just taste like bake chicken not good
(2)Karla W.
The roti is TERRIBLE, extremely dry! Curry is the most watered down curry I've ever had. Only good thing is the coco bread...
