This is the worst place in the history if food. Pulled up in front of the restaurant, worker had on a white apron with a white rag that was apparently dark brown due to it being so damn filthy. The food looked good, but I refused to spend my money here. The customer service is the worst, I've been to places where it was ghetto and the customer service was crap but this place was unbelievable. Cooks were ignoring the customer wants and none of them wore a net over their hair, which was a food safety violation and also nasty. One female answered her phone while working and making food. They do NOT wear gloves. Smh. And the cashier was having a conversation with the cook taking her sweet ass time checking people out. I would never recommend this place to anyone. The one in oxon hill is a lot better than this one. Awful.

IF I COULD DO ZERO STARS I WOULD Not going to sugar coat this horrible place, it's a disgrace to REAL SOUL FOOD!!!! I ordered two chicken lunch specials I fried with Mac n cheese and greens The worst greens and UN cheese Mac n cheese Next Smothered chicken with cabbage and lima beans Worst cabbage and dry beans not pot liquor too keep my beans moist and no extra gravy to keep the chicken from drying or to top off my rice The peach cobbler had two peaches Wtf!!!! Thank God I ordered hush puppies because I like them Or I'd be starving right now

We were in the area for a sporting event and had heard about this soul food spot and we decided to give it a try. I got the stuffed baked fish. It was rubbery like it'd been sitting there all day and full of bones. They didn't even try to pull bones out which I thought was just lazy! Ate about half and was done. My kids got the fried chicken wings and Mac and cheese with greens. The wings were under seasoned but they enjoyed the Mac and cheese. The whole experience was just blah. They should work harder at making sure their food is prepared with love will not go back. Which is too bad because I love good soul food. 2 stars because Mac and cheese and greens were tasty enough

I have visited this location about 3 times and I expect small businesses to strive I love you more when it comes to customer service but to be honest the food is mediocre and the customer service if less than mediocre. It appears to be black on buttocks everyone seems mad sad or upset that they working I don't get the feeling of excitement that a soul food restaurant should have I think I've made my last trip to this establishment I will take my business to Carolina kitchen...... Disappointed!!!

The lunch special is pricey...in oxon Hill its only $4.99 And then it felt like I was eatin in a funeral home afta da repast... sweet potatoes too sugary

Food is sometimes a 10 and sometimes not a 10. Slightly lacking consistency. Some days the service is good some days you realize they'll hire almost anyone . I've never made a phone order because I've been in there on occasion and personally witnessed the level of professionalism dedicated to phone orders and choose to stay away from the headache of dealing with that nonsense . The tall girl in there seems to be the most professional and handles her business when it comes down to getting you in and getting you're order correct and quickly. She's constantly coaching the others to do things the right way so days when the service is bad , I'm almost sure that she's not there . She's the best damn macaroni scooper ever too!! There's also a tall gentleman who I've seen work there who takes his job seriously and is very professional every time I've came in the restaurant. The atmosphere is not meant for dining in although there's plenty of seating and a giant TV from the 90's for your viewing pleasure . There does feel like a funeral home vibe in there and I'm not sure how old the furniture is actually . They definitely have a few thots who need charm school in there , but if you can deal with a little ignorance once in a while for a few minutes , the food is definitely GREAT EATS and super affordable. Most meals are under $10 and have huge portions .

I literally just placed an order with them 2mins ago and received horrible service which made me download this app. The female who answered the phone was extremely rude. First of all she didn't answer with a greeting she answered the phone "hello what do you need" clearly I'm calling to place an order. Then in the middle of me placing my order she says OK bye. I was no where near finished. When I did finish she said 20 minutes and hung up the phone. I love their food but I refuse to give an establishment my hard working money when they do not appreciate it. I always tipped but today she was lucky she got the full amount for the food. I havent received my food yet so I can't tell you if it is as good as i remember so I will do a update. But weather it's good or not I will NEVER EAT HERE AGAIN!

I have tried the mac and cheese and their desserts. I can honestly write that the mac and cheese is great - very cheesy without being oily or runny. The desserts (cheesecakes, lemon cake, and sweet potato pie all taste homemade and delicious. The place was clean and the servers pretty friendly. I made a mistake reaching for the desserts my self - when I was scolded and told that the server would help me with it.. I have not tried the food - so I cannot review.

TERRIBLE. I ordered two fish dinners yesterday 3/18/2014 Do not eat here unless you are drunk and your tastebuds have left the building. My food should have been given to a dog. The place has the potential to be great and it falls short of even mediocre. I was so dissappointed in the nasty fish stuffed with Sh*t That horrific food had the nerve to be $21.00. Ill never go back unless they hire another chef. I'm a foodie and simple food really should taste so much better than the food I ate which just left me hungry and full of sadness for my wasted money and food. Dogs beware of the throw a- way food

Extremely bothered when I was standing in line to place my order, the person behind the counter fixing the plates ask me if I could move because I was blocking there view from watching a football game.....REALLY? I just kindly moved out of the way. I wanted to say something but I figured if I did that they would probably do something to my food. The baked chicken & mac and cheese was good. The green beans...all I tasted was salt. They were so salty that I needed to wash the taste down with my drink. When I took a sip of my Sweet Iced Tea, it was like drinking pure sugar. I know I won't be going back to this place. If you want professionalism....this is not the place you want to come too.

I thought the place was nice enough. I ordered Salisbury steak with green beans and black eyed peas. The star of the platter seemed to be the green beans.

I did not have a good experience. Hard to have bad service when its just a take out spot, but apparently it is possible. Seems like 2 people serve the food and one takes orders. The one that takes orders was missing for a hot sec. So I'm just standing there almost in somewhat of a stare down with the individuals behind the counter. I'm waiting to hear," May I help you?" or "someone will be right with you" But nothing. The gentleman comes out takes my order. I take the food home and it was pretty bad. Couldn't even tell you what I ordered, I cant remember. All I know is for only the second time in my life I had bad mac and cheese. Was thinking about giving it a second chance but after trying Carolina Kitchen which is 5 minutes away. I wont be back here.

I tried to convince my wife not to go here based on other Yelp reviews but since she is not a fellow Yelper she didn't understand. The food wasn't bad nor was it great but the whole vibe of the place just felt Grimey. I had the stuffed chicken, mash potatoes, and Mac and cheese. The chicken was a little dry and the stuffing in the chicken tasted like leftovers. The cornbread is straight though. Kind of tasted like cake. The restaurant felt dirty and dingy. It seemed like a mid 1990s Chinese restaurant. I wish we would have ordered our food to go, I probably would've enjoyed it more. They only had two high chairs which were both being used so we had to hold our daughter in our lap. This is a cafe style restaurant so no waiters/waitresses. It is similar to Carolina Kitchen. If you are forced to go here as was I, consider ordering your food to go.

I went to Levi's with my family last weekend and it was great! The ribs and bbq chicken were amazing... both literally fell off the bone, hard to find in restaurants. Also, make sure you get the cornbread. The only bad thing about our experience was the long line --- the staff was quick and moved customers through quickly but there were a ton of people there. Lesson learned: Make sure you get extra food the first time so you don't have to wait twice

  • Tisha S.

It is ok. I expected a lot more from it based on reviews and commercials. i got the beef ribs which wasn't a lot, 3 small pieces and was sweet and spicy not savory. Tasted like a Store BBQ sauce on it. It was tender though, give them that. the Corn was good and the cornbread tasted like it was made from real cornmeal. the yams were overly sweet. the whole plate lacked something soul food folks call seasoning!! Salt, pepper, paprika, garlic anything...I also got the Peach Cobbler and YUCK. I threw it away after a few bites. It was made with canned peaches as i can taste the sugary can syrup you find when you don't use fresh. There was no cinnamon, nutmeg, brown sugar or anything. just the jelly and peaches and very DRY bread type crust. it was like they threw it in a pie crush opened a can of peaches and put it in the oven. the crust had no flavor.. Even I know yo make fresh crust and season it with nutmeg, cinnamon and such.. All in all i do not think i will go back and stick to carolinas kitchen. The service was pretty quick and the staff was friendly, now if the cook would get some training or something it might get better.

(If you are looking for the nitty-gritty facts about this place, scroll down to the bottom.) Located in a strip mall within the Lake Arbor (a.k.a. Mitchelville, a.k.a. Bowie's distant cousin), in Upper Marlboro, Levi's is a good diversion from the plethora of fast food and chain restaurants within Upper Marlboro. From the initial looks from the outside the restaurant looks like a dine in restaurant with wall art, decorative plants, varied length tables and somewhat comfortable looking chairs. Yet when you enter the restaurant, you see that it is a cafeteria style takeout -- matched with the server ready to scoop/grab a portion of precooked food. During my trips to Levi's, most people tend to not dine in. Still once in a while you will see a few souls sit in with their Styrofoam container of food and use the plastic bag as their mini table cloth. Aside from mismatched dinning atmosphere, the food is okay. In my humble opinion the food is certainly two steps above Carolina Kitchen and most of the barbequed items are consistently good. The barbeque chicken was moist and isn't too salty. The sides and baked items are hit and miss. Out of all the side dishes I have tried, I have enjoyed the macaroni and cheese and the cornbread. The staff is small but mostly nice, usually one or two servers, a "runner" and a cashier. Most times I haven't had a problem with them but my expectations aren't high Nitty Gritty Facts: Pros: Good takeout food, ample parking, good alternative if you don't want fast food but don't want to go to a sit-down restaurant. Cons: Not a nice place to "dine in" at. (Seriously it looks like a dine in restaurant but serves everything for takeout.) Germaphobe level: 4 - They keep the place clean. Not "white glove" clean but enough where you don't suspect the daily special might have extra guests in it. Servers may make OCD germaphobes re-think their dinning experiences.

Its sad I have to give this place one star nowadays. I remember coming here back in the late 90s when we first moved to Prince George's. The food was great, service was good and overall a pleasant experience, most certainly would have given it 4 stars. Then a couple years back they were under new Asian management, and that's when things started going downhill. The servers were rude and tried to give my mom old, scraped up from the edges crusty mac-n-cheese, and when she called them out that loudly said "O we wern't gonna giv u that gurllll!". Ok the way they said it was borderline offensive and we took note not to come back. I hear I haven't been missing much, that now the food is overall mediocre and missing the soul it once had. I would def recommend Carolina Kitchen over Levi's and I'm not even a huge fan of CK myself

Staff doesn't care. This was my first time coming after 7 years of passing them by. Now I remember. Last time I was there, the cashier followed the guy out of the restaurant because she didn't charge him for everything and left the people in line just waiting. I thought I'd stop by and pick up some dinners. The staff is having too good of a time socializing among themselves and ignore the customers. I had to tell the girl behind the counter that I wanted cornbread three times because "I the customer" was not nearly as important as sharing a joke with her co-workers. It's very frustrating to go to a place with predominantly blacks and they act as though they could care less and have no pride in their job. The cashier said "I hope a lot of people don't come by tomorrow for Sunday dinner. Another woman working there said there was hardly any one there last Sunday so it was nice. Well I know I wasn't going to stop for Sunday dinner or any other day after this. They don't want customers!

This is a combined review. As I eat here too much to only review when disappointed. This review came only from a disturbing visit. The bad first: Ordered a fish sandwich Sir, would you like white or wheat? She asked. Wheat please. Here you go. I grab some hot sauce to place in my bag and look at my fish.....oh yeah! Can't wait. Good size and crispy. Nothing wrong here. BUT, what is wrong with my wheat bread? I grab it and pass my green bread to the cashier. Inside I am thinking, really? I order a fish sandwich with wheat bread and u give me green bread? That wasn't even one of my options. The cashiers response was the good part. She looked at the bread and got the attention of her two servers and said....and I quote, 'y'all giving out green bread again? Grab it from the front. Sir would you like corn bread?". Really? In my head again! 'no I would like wheat for my fish sandwich. And I want it all free for my mental anguish.". My actual response was, "yes". I got outside so mad that I did not create a real issue that I had to Yelp it. This seems to get more attention over time. Treat me to a fish sandwich next time and we will continue to be fine. See you in a few weeks.

The food is good but the customer service is TERRIBLE. I went there today and three women were working behind the counter. First woman did not part her lips to take my order; however, she stopped taking my order to hug her co-worker. Second and third women cursing (MF and Fu*k). Note to Levi's staff: Take pride in yourself and your work, leave the attitudes at home. Your customers pay your salary.

I love Levi's. A lot of people have been commenting that the staff is rude but I've never experienced that and I'm a regular for the past three years. From day one they've always been friendly to me. You get what you give so when I go there I speak, I'm friendly and they are in return. The food is tasty. The fried chicken is seasoned perfectly and I love their greens, chitterlings, and yams. I've also had the whiting dinner and liver & onions both were tasty. Can't say that I'm a fan of their macaroni and cheese (it's very dry) or their ribs (meat was too tough and the sauce wasn't good). It's definitely a place you want to grab-n-go though. I've sat in and eaten there and had gnats flying around my food the entire time.

  • Carlton H.

Affordable and not too bad.... Styled as a cafeteria, most however get it to go and you place your order at the begining of the line, so you have to know what you want. The staff will not win points for their friendliness but they are not rude; just lacking in personality. This started out as a family owned, soul-food business and was sold and the new owner kept everything as it was.

  • Tamika H.

I had the porkchops today. I always get them because they have to cook them while u wait, well fried at least the smothered ones are already done. I want my food fresh and hot so I got fried. I don't know if I was hungry or the cook was just really following my orders today ( extra seasonings) because they were on point! Lawd have mercy that food was good today!

  • Jen B.

The food was just ok. The only thing worth ordering was the greens. I'll never eat here again because one, the people who worked there were rude. Secondly, the dining room smelled weird. Luckily, we ordered our food to go. There's no way I would've been able to eat there. Bottom line, there's no reason to go here when Carolina Kitchen is a few miles away. Carolina Kitchen isn't perfect, but it makes this place look like a dump. Most of the reviews on this page are negative. I had to see for myself I Levi's deserved the harsh reviews. They do. I'll start trusting my fellow Yelpers a lot more!

This place is terrible. I am from the south and this is not even southern cooking in a northern way. The service was terrible I waited for 20 mins+ for cafeteria style service and then to top it off the waitress was very loud, rude, and barely even listened to my order. I felt the food lacked any favor. Can I ask when was the last time you had soul food without any taste? If you answered, "Never," then you sure have not been to Levi's. I had macaroni and cheese that was so dry and flaky that I still gag thinking of it. A co worker suggested this place to me and to my chagrin I surrendered to the powers of the worst suggestion I have ever had the displeasure of stomaching.

I am not sure why this restaurant has such a low number of stars. The only reason I would say is the service and decor. The food however is great. They have some of the best Turkey wings, Fried Chicken Wings, Backed Mac and Cheese, Collard Greens and corn bread in the area. I purchased a 4 wing dinner, BBQ turkey wing dinner, Backed Turkey wing dinner, Trout dinner for the family and only paid 40 bucks. The service is pretty bad however. The people behind the counter either should find another line of work or try to make the best of what they have because they usually look angry and have attitudes. I hate going to a restaurant and feeling like there doing me a favor when they are fixing my food. Oh, and do not change your order...it will be eyes rolling and huffing and puffing to deal with. Pretty sad. The decor could use a great deal of updating. The dining area looks like something out of a 70's restaurant from the south with one T.V. as you enter the dining area. Mental note to management. Do not put the silver wear and napkins by the T.V.. In summary, Levi's is a good place to get a quick bite to eat at an affordable price. They have large servicing sizes and tasty food. It is not a place I would frequent but if I am in the area and have a taste for soul food I will spend my money there. Food - 5 Decor - 2 Service - 2

I used to go here all the time when I lived around the corner from it. Now that I'm not on that side of town, it's very rare I go. I see nothing has changed! Is the minimum requirement to work here a nasty and disdainful attitude toward their job? The food is decent for a soul food restaurant (no soul food spot ever tastes like my Grandma's) but I mean damn...don't apply to a job in customer service if you know you possess ZERO customer service skills. Whenever I do go, I have to prepare myself while walking in...it usually goes like this : "You already know what you're walking into. You chose to come here and deal with these people. You're here now so you might as well get some food so you don't have to cook. Don't pop off, just order and be out." I have the same reaction every time I leave "Why did these people even apply to work here, you can't hate life that much." That is way too much to think about just for some half seasoned fried chicken! The service alone is enough to really make me change my rare visit to a never visit. I guess they're doing something right; they've been in business since forever with the same type of staff: shitty.

The food looks very good but honestly does not taste like anything. Mac n cheese: looks really cheesy but it's actually very bland and over cooked. It's mush. Pulled chicken: over sauced and just not good Black eyed peas: just plain. They could have added some onions, celery and green bell peppers but it's just boring. This meal was $10.67 and I considered asking for a refund. Do not waste your money or time

Wow! I'm giving this place a negative 30 stars. This is a perfect example of what *not to do* in a restaurant / Mom & Pop. We really use to like this location when visiting family and friends years ago. But it has went a complete 180. The food has went way, way down. Customer service is a horrible. An the establishment and furnishing are dingy and sticky. We ordered basic chicken wings, greens, ribs, sweet potato pie. The greens were bland; the ribs and chicken wings were horrible and not tasty at all. The sweet potato pie had funny powdery and artificial taste. How do you mess up soul food? We ended up throwing out the whole order. It wasn't worth going back to talk with servers. Food Quality: Negative 10 stars The head cashier was on the company's phone on a personal call when we wanted to ask a question or pay for our take-out. She seemed to have an issue with us interrupting her personal call. Where we on a secret taping of the "What Would You Do?' No, this episode was all together real. Customer service: -10 stars. Also, the cashier digging her nose upon ringing up our order. My mouth dropped silent. In plain sight of the freakin' customers! I felt sick to my stomach. Thank goodness she wasn't responsible for preparing the food or bagging it. I snacked the bag from the preparer as quckly as I could. I was really surprised that the owner/manager was on-site and allowed such poor customer service and poor hygiene practices to take place. Where is Department of Health and inspectors when you need it? Can you get any more violations in one day? Yep! The waiting area and dining area are dingy and depressing. There are Mom& Pop joints and then there are "dingy. don't care what we look like joints." Along the walls of the dinning area, there were boxes stacked that seemed to be out of place. While waiting for our order we attempted to sit on the couch and quickly transferred to a chair. Couch was smelly and suspicious. So was the table and chair that we sat at but better. Negative 10 stars. No go to Levi's. Trust. Pretty please.

I had the pleasure of visiting Levi's with a friend yesterday after church. She suggested we get some food and since we were in Landover, I suggested Levi's. This was my 3rd time trying it out, my girl took me two other times and I was very pleased with the food and prices. So I'm like girl we going to Levi's! I got directions and we drove from church to Levi's, which is by Fed Ex field and conveniently located by 95. We go in and wait in line, Levi's is a buffet style carryout where you can go and eat your food like another reviewer mentioned. For my meal I choose the fried talapia with greens and cabbage, vanilla cake with chocolate frosting, and a half and half. My friend got 3 sides: cabbage, mac n cheese, sweet potatoes, and an order of hush puppies. The line was a little long because it was Sunday- church folks trying to get a good Sunday Meal lol. Good the food was, she enjoyed all of her sides 3 out of 3 she shouted! I enjoyed the fried talapia and my greens and cake. The portion sizes are good and the prices are even better! If you find yourself looking for some good soul food with really good prices, I would say to give Levi's a go! They are open everyday except Mondays. They take cards with a minimum $8 purchase. I will be back! :)

This place was far better in the past. I only go now when I need something on the go, quickly. NEVER order crab cakes there. That's a warning. I took one bite and had to throw that gross stuff in the garbage can. Not fit for human consumption and they are all filler, no crab. It should be illegal to refer to it as a crab cake because it's anything but. More like a gross bread ball. An expensive bread ball. I'm happy to pay good money for a real crab cake but that thing was offensive. Yuck. The issue I have with the servers is that many of them talk and laugh while handling your food. I don't want anyone talking over my food. As the new restaurants in Hyattsville come to completion, I will only go to those and will give up completely on Levi's.

My cousin said this place was better than Carolina Kitchen NOT! The fried Trout was dry and not fresh at all, then I got a replacment entree after I complained about the fish. Baked chicken, dark meat also dry and overcooked. I gave up at that point. The reason I am giving it 1 star is because she did try to make us happy with a replacement. Price sucked, portions sucked, food nasty, staff majority were rude, the cornbread tastes like pound cake. WTH? Just go 10 more minutes to Carolina Kitchen.

Okay let me first say in the past my experience with Levi's was good. The past two times I went which was in the summer of '12, and on 1/12/13. My experience was horrible! RATCHET RATCHET RATCHET!!!! I guess customer service goes a long way it was a young girl that was taking the order, she wasn't smiling, she was talking to the other lady that was serving the food in the containers, I had to wait for them to finish their brief convo before she took my order they were very LOUD talking about inappropriate things, then the the cashier SMH she wasn't any better mean overall the food was okay but everything I tried to order they didn't have anymore customer service was not good at all and that to me that is def. a deal breaker I started to ask if Keith & Son was still opened and walk out but I couldn't be that rude LOL.

The food was really good! I got a Fried fish lunch that came with 2 sides (mac n cheese & yams for me!)and a drink for 7.99 and then ordered an extra side of potato salad, and 2 desserts- banana pudding and sweet potato pudding....NO I do not normally eat like this but there's something about soul food that made my eyes way bigger than my stomach. I enjoyed everything I got but the service left something to be desired,it was like dealing with the Soup Nazi, the first thing I noticed was the sign that said "Please end your cell phone convos before entering the line" okay understandable ... but there were two more signs with "rules" that I cannot remember but just seemed unnecessary and the rushed atmosphere with the massive menu and the workers, who seemed to get annoyed that people didn't know exactly what they wanted, left a sour taste in my mouth about going back..if they want people to move a little faster they should consider printing menus in addition to the sign that you have to crook your neck to read and memorize -they have a LOT of choices- they just seemed impatient and lacked any customer service skills...but i'll go back again one day when i'm in the mood for service with an attitude.

I love soul food and this was very disappointing! Small portions and dry. Yes a chain like Carolina Kitchen by far beats this place. Do not believe the hype...I did and was really upset with the food.

The food is good. I have the smothered pork chops mashed potatoes and gravy with cabbage. I tried the whiting fried fish as well. The service isnt all that great. Its like you walk up and get, What would you like? And it feel like a buzzer went off. You have exactly 20 seconds to order. Dont ask any questions just order and keep it moving! So the food is great but the customer service is worthless. The area where you eat has a warm home feeling but you have to eat out of your to go box.

This place is always packed with customers but I have no idea why. Most of the meat was indiscernible and laid in thick gravy. The vegetables were too sweet and limp and the catfish was soggy. I can do better for less at Horace & Dickie's.

Was visiting some friends in MD recently and stopped into this great place. My favorite was the mac and cheese but the chicken was awesome too. I will definitely be back next time I'm in the area. I really appreciated seeing the owners on the premises, they were friendly and greeted everyone with smiles. Thumbs up to Levi's BBQ - also while we were there we heard that they are scheduled to open a new location in a few months! Very exciting...

The food was good, the customer service was very bad, it makes you not want to patronize this resturant. If they could better train their staff I would go there more often.
