The Sonic here was long awaited and a highly sought after food franchise for this area... I mean, after being tormented for years with these commercials for this seemingly mythical place... Yeah. I am no stranger to Sonic, Sonic fed and fueled me for the better part of all impromptu stops across the country. In general, if you haven't been, please remember this is a fast food place, it isn't meant to be held in high regards as something you'd travel high and far for forever and a day to eat. The hook here in the drive-in, which now of days, is a unique experience. If you've never been, do yourself the favor and go for the whole experience. The food is pretty standard, hamburgers, fries etc... But they do have the famed tots and hot dogs. Dessert and drinks are your go-to menu item, signature drink is the Cherry Limeade and they do it well. You have a veritable cornucopia of flavors to choose from and add in. My personal favorite is the Vanilla Lime Dr. Pepper. If you're on a budget or like a good surprise, the drink of the day changes daily (as one might expect), and will only cost you .99 cent. It's posted on the website if you really want to know what it is, but I like to go in for a surprise. AS FOR THIS SONIC, specifically: Drive-in Drive-through Outdoor seating Carhop service is alway polite and generally prompt delivery. If you don't always carry cash, you can use your credit/debit card at the menu after you complete the order. Remember to tip! The drive thru here is decent. It has its ups and downs, but the basic configuration could have been executed better. Entering and exiting can be tricky and expect to compete on busier days-- some enter directly from 2 and others come from behind Walgreen's (recommended). The drive thru experience is not the best. The staff are always polite and quick to answer, but the wait is sometimes beyond the want, especially if you only want one or two things. I always have to repeat my order, but it isn't so big a deal. The wait, since open, has been somewhat alleviated by the staff personally coming to your car in line for payment and delivery, but it can still get pretty long for a fast food service. Not a bad location, just needs to work out some kinks.

My husband and I usually go here when we are on our way home from Annapolis for a limeade or slush. The lines are usually REALLY long at lunch time and dinner because it is still a novelty to have one. It is still fast food, and the food is nothing really special. Though, I have to admit the drinks are delicious.

Although it's a drive to get here, sometimes you want what you want and you make the drive anyhow. I enjoy the variety at Sonic's and the vibe. You can walk up and order, use the drive-thru or pull into one of the stalls and enjoy your purchase on site. They have happy hour everyday and even morning and late evening specials. There is an option to sign up for promotions via text too. I haven't been done wrong yet with their milkshakes and I'm still a fan of the limeades. Each time I've come here the customer service is on point and no attitudes. Make sure you tip your carhop for excellent service. There are a few carhops that don rollerblades/skates and give it that back in the day feel. Turning into the area can be a little challenging since it's on a busy street. When exiting, use the rear exit and turn right and exit near the light to avoid trying to merge into traffic. They pay attention to the customer's order and you can pay at your stall or you can pay your carhop. Great place to unwind after a hectic day and you can bring the kiddies too.

I used to live half a mile away from Sonic back in Austin. It was great and all but I didn't truly appreciate it as I should have. You know what they say, you don't know what you've got till it's gone. This is the truth. It took me a year and a half to find a Sonic in the DC area, but I was SO EXCITED once I did! I always thought it was so cruel that I would see Sonic commercials on TV but I didn't think there were any locations anywhere near the DMV. We recently enjoyed a day on a boat a mile down the road from here, and then clumsy me had to slip and seriously hurt my foot/ankle. What better cure is there than a Sonic burger, tots and a Cherry limeade??? None, me thinks. Service was my only complaint. The little carhop dude was nice but not prepared at all. He didn't even carry ketchup packets, napkins, mints, etc. on his tray like they're supposed to. We asked for ketchup and then he just never came back.

Never really had a problem here but this one occasion my BF and I waited over 30 mins on a Sat just to take our orders the Manager came out after I requested to speak with someone and he comped our entire meal and owned up to there's no excuse for the delay I will continue to come here and I appreciate his concern....

June 19th all day long was half off shakes. Not living close to a sonic caused a road trip to this location. Sonic has upped their profile by introducing new delicious flavorful concoctions. I had a list to chose from to include: cookie dough, peanut butter fudge, peanut butter cheesecake, salted caramel, etc. I had my eyes on one and that was chocolate jalapeño. Yes this does exists and it's very interesting. I enjoyed it until I got it the end of the shake. The shake creator didn't mix that well and had about 10-12 small slices on the bottom making it not taste too great. My body doesn't process dairy well so I can say it was worth a try

Actually had the carhops on skates. which isn't always the case at other sonics. and it really does add to the experience. Food was good as always. Came out fast. good job guys keep it up.

Diet Cherry Limeades keep me comin' back! The tater tots are never good! Why is that? I'm just wanting school cafeteria-level tots but the oil they are cooked in tastes funny or something to me. The Sonic Blasts, sort of like a blizzard, never have enough toppings, and the toppings are mostly on the top. If you get a large, though, it's like having 17 pounds of ice cream.

Ok so Sonic, the fast food chain Marylanders have been without for many years, has now open several locations throughout the DMV. This location is well, bad. The location offers tabled seating options for patrons who may not want to dine in their cars, however they do not pay attention to people ordering from them. For someone who doesn't normally dine at fast food joints, or even want to rarely, this makes the experience that much dissatisfying. So having to go get back into the car and pull into a awkward parking spot and order through a box is the sonic way, so I went to try that. Ordered several items total for myself and the passengers which resulted in missing items and wrongly placed items on the tray. I won't be returning for the subpar, and less than stellar experience no matter how cool their rollerskating delivery crew is, or their amazing drink flavor combinations - it's gimmicky and just as bad as a visit to McDonalds - 2 stars.

Haven't been to a sonic in years. Was excited to try this one. The ocean water cream slush wasn't as flavorful as I remember but it wasn't bad. We had a Chicago dog, chili dog and tater tots. Service was good, we went through the drive through BC it was cold out and we wanted to eat at home. Will return.

The food here is just like any other Sonic. The service is fast and the drinks are always good. We love Sonic and wish there were more around. The really great thing about this place is the manager. We left our lights on when we were eating and our battery died. The manager came out to see what was happening with our vehicle. He bought out a portable battery charger that the restaurant has. That didn't charge the truck's battery so he pulled his car around and let us use his battery to charge it. He's was very helpful and awesome. We'll definitely be supporting this Sonic when we're in the area.

This location is very serviceable!! Great service at the drive up!! Food came out fast for a Friday night!! One of my only complaints is that they don't have cole slaw to put on the coneys!! In the south, the coneys come "all the way" with coleslaw included! I was offered sauerkraut instead!! One of my only knocks on this location!! Otherwise, it will provide the Sonic fix that we desire!!

It's hard to give a fast food place a review as your experiences are usually all over the board. But, after over a year of frequenting Sonic in Edgewater, I've noticed a couple of issues that seem to always crop up. First, the drive thru service is AWFUL! I'm not sure what the issue is but it never seems like the person on the other end of the microphone can get things right. Second, the drive thru service here is ALWAYS slow. Third, the menus for the drive thru are very hard to read. The drive-in "booth" menus aren't much better. Fourth, the interior of this unit always seems to be more greasy than you would normally expect from the typical Sonic. When the drive thru window is opened, you can smell that "old grease / oil" smell. Fifth, I've never gotten an order which is 100% right. This last time, it took the staff THREE attempts to make a SONIC BLAST with chocolate ice cream. AND, after I get the third Blast, the chocolate syrup they used to make the ice cream chocolate was dripping out from under the cup lid and all over my pants and shirt. I haven't had a good experience with the burgers at this location and pretty much stick with their hot dogs. About half the time they forget a key ingredient on the Chicago dog. They do get the Chili Dog with mustard, cheese and onion right all the time though. My biggest complaint is that Sonic in general doesn't offer a sugar-free Slush. They have Splenda sweetened flavorings that they use to flavor their soft drinks -- which pretty much causes the soda to be flat BTW -- but, they could offer a Splenda sweetened Slush as well. I've been to many Sonics over the years. This one is not up to par at all. It's too bad because I know it can be done better!

When we went there was a line of cars wrapped around the building and they didn't seem to be moving. We had better luck walking up to the window. Service was still slow.

North Carolina SONIC is still tops! This location isn't half-bad though. Opening Week was booming, of course and went without any major hitches (service-wise). However, my order was correct, but the food wasn't piping hot. Can't say I'm ever OK with lukewarm tater tots, but...I gave them a break because it was Opening Week and everyone was trying to get acclimated and be accomodating to customers at the same time. My most recent visit was better. This SONIC location is good enough to hold me over until my next trip 'down South' to get the real deal.

I had a hard time giving this 3 stars, because I love sonic. A couple things that I was un-happy about: -the drive in circulation was all coned off and re-directed people to an exit only. I had to cheat and drive down a one way isle to get to the drive in part! -I was a little pissed that they didn't have the fried pickles and it was a reduced menu, compared to what then normally have. The sonic across the bay from Annapolis is a lot better!

Ok gave it another shot and while it was much better than my first experience, I still wish my mozzarella sticks had been warmer! The server came up pretty quick in the roller skates and was pleasant (which I give props for considering it was freezing cold that day!) along with the person that took my order over the speaker. Can't wait to make it in time for happy hour next!

This was my first time ever trying out a Sonic. I found the layout of the restaurant with the car pull up order areas with people on roller skates to be cool even though we just parked and sat at the small group of tables next to the building. If you want a more peaceful enviroment then I suggest you eat in your car with the windows up since the car speakers and walk-up speakers can be loud. Upon starting our order I have to say the guy taking it seemed a little confused and we had to repeat ourselves a few times. After sitting down, a friend of several of the staffers came which they continuously left the building to go out and talk to in between working inside and serving the people. I wouldn't have had a problem with this if my order had come out correctly. Also at one point I saw a staffer return from one car with a carton of fries on her tray that she was eating from that she didn't previously have when she left the building to deliver food to another car. I ordered a Super Sonic Double Cheeseburger, no onions or pickles with mayo and ketchup. The menu clearly says "with ketchup, mustard, OR mayo" meaning you can pick which ones, not that all three come on it. Instead my burger came out with mustard and mayo. I could have complained and if I had been in the right mood or dealing with a place that I was more familiar with but instead I sucked it up and ate probably 80%, leaving the most mustardy parts left over. Upon looking at the receipt, it was hard with the shorthand if it got switched by accident or if he took the order down wrong. Aside from that, the burger and fries were good, and the vanilla coke was also very enjoyable. If I decided to eat here again I would probably make sure that whoever took my order read it back to me first.

I'm really surprised at all the complaints about this location. Whenever I have went I have had no problems. My food comes out quickly and correct. I have gone at all different times and days so I have gotten a pretty good idea of the place. The carhops are always so friendly. And I gotta end it all with a Sonic Blast....It cant be beat....love this place. Its out of the way and the only time we go in that direction is when we visit my grandmother's thanks Sonic for bringing my Grandmother and I closer LMAO

I love me some Sonic, but hated this location, and I was so looking forward to having a Sonic nearby. Hopefully they will work their kinks out. We were there in time for the half prices drinks special but they tried to charge us full price and we had to get a manager involved. Plus the wait is insane. Save your Sonic visits for a trip down south

I'm sad to see some of the negative reviews. I've been to this Sonic...way too many times because I live so close to it! It is fast food, so not gourmet and not the healthiest. Coneys are great, drinks are great, chili cheese tots are great. Service is at times a little slow...when there are lots of cars there... Orders have been correct the vast majority of our visits. My only critique is the layout of the Sonic, as some other reviewers have mentioned. I'm guessing that because of space issues there is only one side of the restaurant with car stalls (vs. two that are typically to so many Sonics)...but even that being said...five stars and so happy we finally have a Sonic in this area. Yay for Happy Hour!

I just had the worst experience at this Sonic location. I pressed the button for service and was immediately told to wait a moment. About ten minutes later, another car pulled up next to me and immediately ordered their food ...before I had even been helped. I pressed the button again for service, with no response. A few minutes later and after asking a car hop to tell someone that I had not been helped, I finally got a response. I let them know that I had a coupon for a free ice cream cone I had received the day before and ordered the rest of my food. The food took much longer than it ever has. The coupon turned out to have expired over two weeks ago. With no apology or any acknowledgement of their mistake, they charged me for the ice cream. The car hop then proceeded to ask me if I wanted my change, which is an entirely inappropriate question in any customer service situation. I will occasionally tip the car hops if I receive exceptional service but never if I am so rudely asked. I decided not to dispute the coupon to avoid spending any more time at that horrible restaurant.

Sonic comes to Edgewater MD - after 2 tries I finally endured the over 20 minute wait through the drive thru. It's brand new and everyone I know has raved about how great the place is. I don't eat alot of fast food - but as a comprehensive reviewer I do try to visit every single eatery in town. That said Sonic was a huge disappointment - not remotely worth the wait. I had a Super Sonic double cheeseburger, fries, and a strawberry limeade. I figured that would be a decent benchmark. For one 20 minutes in the drive thru is not remotely fast food. The burger was unremarkable - it wasn't bad - but wasn't anything I'd go out of my way to get again - honestly Burger King does a better job. Fries were no different than BK or McDs. Wendy's are better. The strawberry limeade I didn't actually like at first - it was way to sweet for me - but after it got watered down by melting ice it was actually pretty good - the only highlight in the experience. The service was friendly - my order was accurate - but the wait is insane. SO I don't get the buzz about Sonic - it's just another run of the mill fast food joint - they have a few items on the menu like dogs you don't see elsewhere which makes it a little different I guess. Plus there is the drive up service on roller skates - that's neat - I'd hate to work there tho - can you imagine the mishaps?!?! Don't worry Edgewater - you will have one less car to compete with on your next visit - this place is a dud...

Its your regular fast food joint food quality wise, but the charm about this chain is the old school appeal of it being like a traditional drive in stop. You won't be taken back in time to be paying less than a dollar to fill up your 67' fastback but you'll have no problem driving up in whatever you drive and experience the charm of roller skating servers taking your order and bringing it right to your car window. Its a nice change of pace from the regular hustle fast food has come to be known for. Bring the kids and show how it used to be done. Biggest thing this place going for it is its charm second is its drink menu. If it goes in a cup they have it or can make it, hint come during happy our 2pm-4pm for drinks and after 8pm for shakes. Food wise like i said the usual fast food level but still tasty just not too healthy. Downside to this location is how busy the drive thru is considering its the only one within 30 miles or so the wait is worth it. For other food options other than fast food but local gems check out my soon to be up food blog on my profile.

I absolutely love Sonic, and was exstatic to find a locatio. On my route to Ocean City, until I ate the food. We all got different things (chili cheese tots, popcorn chicken, burger, cherry limeade) and all of us had upset stomachs afterward. Nothing sat well with anyone, even the cherry limeades tasted off. As rare as sonics are in this area, I will avoid this one at all costs.

When exiting, use the rear exit and turn right and exit near the light to avoid trying to merge into traffic. They pay attention to the customer's order and you can pay at your stall or you can pay your carhop. Great place to unwind after a hectic day and you can bring the kiddies too.

For a drive-in you CANNOT beat Sonic!! Love their foot long coney with chili and hamburgers!

The closest one to us :( but always yummy and great customer service I get giddy when our carhop has on skates! :)

Never really had a problem here but this one occasion my BF and I waited over 30 mins on a Sat just to take our orders the Manager came out after I requested to speak with someone and he comped our entire meal and owned up to there's no excuse for the delay I will continue to come here and I appreciate his concern....

the croissant dogs are a lie this just a regular damn hot dog bun how you gonna do this to me after those tasty looking croissants on the commercials

Either service is horrid or order system was broken. Should be a notification system that confirms button press. They didn't appear busy but no one asked for order so I left.

(3)Jasmin H.

The large milk shake is a MONSTER. too much. Got it anyways! Alot of choices and pretty tasty for a fast food joint.

Lets be honest the place is crowded as hell but what do expect when closest north is Baltimore and lets not evdn talk about riding south...dont come here too often so the wait isnt bad....to me!

I go here for one thing: their vanilla MALT is great. And cost effective. My friend loves the diet cherry limeade.

What can I say, I love Sonic. It makes me feel like a kid again. I finally got to go to a Sonic near home and this Sonic was great. Quick and friendly service, and good food.
