This place's not that hard to spot since it's the only restaurant for miles lol. It's literally in the middle of nowhere. The diner's connected to the bar & liquor store, how convenient lol... Tubby's just average diner in my opinion. However, it is extremely affordable and the portions're good. You can get a burger with chips for anywhere from $4.75 - $7sh. Their wings aren't bad either; 10 of them go for $6. Their Chicken Curry ($13) is quite good. It can be spicy for some people, but I think the chilli gives the dish some kick. Overall, it is a decent diner with cheap price & good portion. The workers're friendly & would be more than willing to explain the food in the menu. The bar's pretty small, I don't think it's a good idea if you have quite a bit of people with you. If you ever wanna get cheap & decent food, Tubby's is the place to go.

I've been dining at Tubby's for close to 10 years now, mostly for breakfast. Being a fan of retro decor, I quite liked the 60's diner vibe with the blue sparkle chairs and chrome-edged tables. I saw that they had been doing some renovations and on a whim brought the family in for an early dinner one night. Wow! Major decor renovation. I guess most would call it an upgrade; it sure looks contemporary, but I will miss the retro decor. The staff and ownership are clearly proud of their new work environs and it shows in the service. While we've always given them high marks for service, the staff seemed to have a new air of pride. Since this was the latest in the day we had ever dined there, I decided to order a lunch item - the Greek Cheeseburger. Very tasty, hearty and filling too! Good quality beef patty and just enough feta. The only thing I'm not crazy about is that now the bar extends into the dining area whereas previously it was clearly part of another room, albeit an open floor plan. I hope that if we ever decide to have a proper dinner time meal there, that we won't have to deal with loud, rowdy drinkers. Afterall, it is a family restaurant. Keep up the good work, Tubby's!

Kudos to Tubby's for the update! The place looks great inside. For those that haven't been in a while, it's now got new flooring, all new tables, paint, etc. It looks like a totally different restaurant. The food is still great, as well as the service.

Gotta give Tubby's 3 stars because their food is not always consistently good. The food is ok but sometimes it is too salty. Your best bet is to go with the breakfast. The prices are fair. They also have a bar and retail beer and wine which I like about them as well. Just average diner food here.

Used to like this place for its '50s feeling, vinyl chairs and old style diner atmosphere. Problem is cleanliness. Stopped there for lunch: getting in, aggressive cooking oil smell in the hallway, tables were not clean (had to ask for somebody to take care of it), service was friendly but distracted, food was nothing special until time came to digest it, when it proved to be a chore. Get your act together guys! This place has potential. It's just heading the wrong way right now.

I don't know what it is about this place but it just doesn't meet my expectations. It's like everything is average I've never had anything really good or really bad. I'm not feeling the eggs and the pancakes seem under cooked almost. I'm going to the college park diner next week

Good food, especially for breakfast. Small town mom and pop atmosphere. Restaurant attaches to bar which attaches to liquor store. Regular staff, great prices. Can't complain!

People really rated this joint 5-Stars!? You gotta be kidding me! Man I've been to a few dives but this ladies and gents is not dive worthy! It was dirty and messy everywhere. We sat ourselves and had to get our own cutlery. The table was gritty, sticky, and questionably clean. The waiter/server was polite but was inattentive, he'd drop things off at the table and quickly disappear. I asked for ginger ale which was noticeably clear and tasted like seltzer but he disappeared to quickly for me to request another beverage. We practically had to go into the kitchen to get service. Basic menu, no real "Wow" factor or dishes that set Tubby's apart. I ordered a side of bacon which came crumbled into about 16 pieces instead of strips. The home fries were not made from scratch, just frozen fried potato cubes. The food was nothing to write home about but palatable and relatively inexpensive. The two meals came to about $22 after tax. the bar was connected and you could smell it and at any moment I was waiting for Jax Teller and his pals to come on by. Unless I had no other choice I would not repeat.

They are only getting three stars for the food and beer prices, the bar experience was not good. The draft beer prices are very reasonable, on monday you van only ordered fried food. Hence why stale, fry oil greets you at the door, when you walk in. They do have homemade potato skins, loaded with strips of bacon and cheddar cheese. However, when I eat inside I prefer not to have ants crawling on me. I could understand one stray ant but several, I paid up quick to get out.

I actually signed up for a Yelp account just to write this review. I can't comprehend how this place has anything above a one star review. There was absolutely nothing good about this place except the people watching, which was mostly a side effect of my morbid curiosity. The French toast was so soggy I couldn't eat it - imagine cinnamon flavored half-cooked scrambled eggs. The pancakes were somehow dry and chewy at the same time. The omelette was made of eggs that did not taste like eggs. They were out of my original order of creamed chipped beef which was probably a blessing in disguise. Everything - the menu, the table, the seats, the butter, the jelly packets - everything was sticky and disgusting. The coffee was decent. This is a good place to go if you want to overhear some good stories about underage drinking and employee gossip. Besides that, don't bother. You're better off at Silver Diner or IHOP - at least they're chain restaurants that have standards in food service. Or if you ask my spouse, you're better off at a gas station or skipping breakfast altogether.

The breakfast was good and they provided a lot of food which was great when you have a team of baseball players ready to eat, our only complaint was that they would NOT allow the boys to sit at one table and the parents to sit at another...I guess this was too complicated for the waitress to keep track of, which is kind of ridiculous if you ask me.

I came here for lunch. The place looks very old and divey but the food was pretty good. I would recommend getting breakfast here. The food was good and the price was really good. The waitstaff was very friendly and kind but she was pretty busy since they only had one waiter for lunch. If you get soda, I would recommend getting soda in bottles as the fountain drinks tasted kind of funny.

"Matta fac I'm at Tubbys right now"- guy on toilet on cell phone Yes, this place is a combination masterpiece. Its a decent diner, that also has a shrine to Marilyn Monroe. Conveniently, the restaurant is attached to a convenient store with booze. AND just in case you were wondering, yes, there is a bar that connects the two. As I usually do, I asked about the dueling football allegiences in this mid maryland market. "well" Mary said, "most of em are 'skins fans" (looks around quick, brings head closer to table) "but Ima ravens fan" maybe slightly fairweathered in nature, but a fan nonetheless.

Bunch of abrasive rednecks. Had to call 911 because waitress shoved me on parking lot and threatened me. Had been going there for many years but am afraid to go back due to violent staff and customers. (Customer came out on parking lot to threaten me.) How nice!

I love this place. Since moving here finding a decent greasy spoon has been hell - hell I tell you!. And now I found it... in Burtonsville. I guess I should have expected that I would have venture deep into dark nether regions of the state to find it. There's this certain flavor you can only get while sitting on vinyl chairs and eating off linoleum topped tables. I'm guessing it has more to do with the whole "not cleaning your griddle for 50 years" thing and less to do with the vinyl, but I'm not one to judge. Just the fact that biscuits and gravy is not only something staff makes, but it's even displayed prominently on the menu made my heart jump. It's the best I've found in MD so far! The coffee even had that just-the-right-amount-of-burnt you can only get from a truly good diner. This is now my go-to greasy spoon for instant and guaranteed hangover food.

Tubby's has been on 198 for about 14 years or so. we eat here fairly often, and like certain things on the menu- the chef salad, hot roast beef and hot turkey sandwiches, the side of shrimp. If you're there for breakfast, that's where they really shine. All the breakfasts are great. The best part of the restaurant is the friendly waitresses, but they can often become overwhelmed when it gets busy- and it can get really quite busy- say, approaching noon on a Sunday. Although they were new when the restaurant was remodeled, the bathrooms (shared with and in the bar), have really been neglected. Broken fixtures, leaky fixtures, the place needs paint, and a few bucks to be spent here. I never have frequented the bar, but it seems to always have a person or two sitting back there. The bar conveniently connects the restaurant to the liquor store.

Tubby's is really convenient. They even have a liquor store so we can order carryout and get a six pack to go. The trouble with Tubby's is that their food is so blah. There is nothing special about it. They also put a lot less meat on their sandwiches than pretty much any other restaurant I have ever been to. Of course, the sandwiches cost $5, so it's good if you need something cheap and fast with no frills and no personality. Basically, Tubby's is a place where you get the feeling that they have bought the cheapest brands of deli meat, bread, mayonnaise, cheese, etc. that they could find, and have cut every corner possible. If you love fast food, this is like a baby step up from that. We still order food from them when we are so utterly lazy that we don't even have the energy to drive 10 more minutes for a decent meal, so that pretty much tells you the food is edible but kind of gross.

Tubby's looks likes it hasn't been remodeled since the 60'ies. It's a room filled with tables and with booths along the back walls. All the walls are windows so plenty of light on a sunny day. We hadn't been to Tubby's in some years but stopped for breakfast on our way to BWI. Husband and granddaughter ordered chocolate chip pancakes, friend had blueberry pancakes and I had the one egg breakfast. My egg was cooked perfectly, my turkey bacon was good and crispy (extra points for having turkey bacon!) and my hash browns nice and crunchy. The stacks of pancakes were 4 generous sized pancakes, the blueberry were covered with plenty of sauce. I have to say my breakfast was cooked better than one I had recently at a more upscale restaurant--the egg was over-easy and the bacon crisp but not overcooked. Our server was very pleasant. He did forget my friend's order of hash browns but once she saw her stack of pancakes she decided she really didn't need them after all. If in the Laurel area and looking for a good, basic meal would definitely return.

Great place to have breakfast! The short stack of pancakes really hit the spot. Also good coffee, good food, excellent service, fair price too, way better than the large chain places, hidden out in West Laurel.

We've driven by this place for 10 years and finally got the guts to go in. I think it was the name that terrified us, who in this age of obesity calls a place "Tubby's"? Would it be giant portions, sausages dripping in lard, and a clientele of the "heroically proportioned"? Would we face thin-shaming for entering this shangri-la of the crisco kid? Thankfully, Tubby's is just an average diner. My husband ordered the pulled pork sandwich, I got pancake, eggs, and bacon. His pulled pork sandwich was pretty good, had a bit of a smoked flavor. The fries were only so-so, obviously of frozen origin. My pancakes were fine, but the eggs were rubbery and the bacon was cooked until petrified. We just had water to drink, but one bonus of this place is that you can get beer and wine, which is atypical for a diner. The waitstaff was friendly, but a bit odd. I'll probably come back, but skip the breakfast and get a sandwich.

Just tried Tubby's for the first time, and I definitely enjoyed it. When you pull up, prepare to be underwhelmed by how it looks - like a small, run down, hole in the wall trucker food joint. And it is exactly that! Tubby's has that great, friendly, small-town diner/dive feel that chain restaurants just don't have. I tried the pulled pork sandwich and it was one of the best I've had. The pork was very tender, juicy, and sweet, but not so overly cooked that it was a puddle. It had just the right amount of 'chunkiness' to make it a pleasure to eat. The bun was very good too, and amazingly soaked up all of the juices without falling to pieces. The fries were pretty average but you got a lot, and the coleslaw was good. The prices must be mentioned, because they are amazing. It's very possible to get a huge breakfast or lunch for under $10. For my pulled pork sandwich, fries, coleslaw, and drink, I was just over $10 after tax. One of the other guys in my group got a delicious looking breakfast and was out of there for $6.75. Great food for unbelievable prices - you'd be hard pressed to get fast food at these prices and the food is immeasurably better. As another review noted, the waitress was very friendly and handled our group of 10 people quickly and very politely. Yeah, the place doesn't look like much - but the food is great and the prices unbeatable. I'm sure gourmands will turn up their noses at the place and the homestyle cooking, but for me, Tubby's definitely hit the spot.
