A supermarket. Sometimes an expensive one. But a decent option.

Free wi-fi in Safeway? Personally I'd rather have free wi-fi at the Ross a few doors down since my wife can spend an ungodly amount of time there, but hey, free's free. Selection - is decent at this Safeway though I much prefer the Safeway in Greenbelt. The prices generally seem to be lower than Giant and definitely lower than Whole Foods. If you're looking for dirt cheap groceries, check out Super Grand Mart a few miles away. yelp.com/biz/super-grand… Additionally, I don't know if you've had a Safeway cake recently, but man, they're really good! Good as in, "if this weren't a birthday party and people wouldn't look at me weird for eating half the cake, I so would" good. The ice cream cake and the flan cake in particular are excellent. Location - newly remodeled so the interior is very warm and earthy. There's also a Starbucks inside. Did I mention free wi-fi? And it's not the new AT&T iPhone wifi either, where you get a 24-hour access code, you just simply connect to the Safeway network. Let's just hope their namesake applies to their network as well. Four stars for my favorite grocery store in Laurel.

Step up,renovate or close down... No frozen cherries, a 7 person line in the seafood refrigerator section with one clerk. Sandwich meat and bread section so sad. The place is dark and gloomy. Harris Teeter just opened 2 blocks away maybe Safeway exec, they should check it out ?

This safeway is just awful. I'm comparing it to safeway in VA, which is always fully stocked, lots of variety, good produce, ect. They did not have limes, Plaintains, the Kale was super soggy and soft, No Kombucha, poor selection of beets. It was just all bad. I left there knowing I would have to go grocery shopping again the next day at a different location because so many of my must haves were unavailable, or their selection was really poor. I grabbed a bag of lemons since they didn't have limes, and one was already rotten. They really need to evaluate this particular location. It is not a good representation for the Safeway brand.

No problem with customer service but only 2 cashiers working most of the time 4plus unmaned . Management needs to stepup

The choices seem to be getting more limited now, though the cashiers are more careful bagging produce now. Maybe the new ones are better trained. It used to be that they dumped easily bruised fruits along with hard stuff in the same bag. I used to cringe whenever they dropped bananas and apples that I carefully picked.

Safeway used to be my 'go-to' for a reasonably decent shopping experience in an area that mostly offers Shoppers Food Warehouses, Coscos, Dollar Stores, etc. This particular Safeway was a little nicer as far as ambience (yes, I said ambience in reference to a grocery store, because the stark, horrible and grim places that are the bargain shops are so GD depressing), cleanliness, and product variety and availability than the aforementioned stores, although obviously not on par with a Trader Joe's or Fresh Fields. At one point this Safeway even remodeled / redecorated its interior, had a Starbucks inside, and started paying attention to its regular loyal shoppers in the form of significant coupons and other savings. It seemed like they were investing in a smart path and committed to offering their customers a pleasant shopping experience. Then I started noticing that the store would suddenly and inexplicably stop carrying items I had regularly purchased, or would be consistently out of stock. Then, my weekend shopping trips started ending in long waits at the front check out due to the fact that they'd have two clerks manning registers -- and one of them was usually an Express lane, which meant that those of us doing our weekly shopping run would end up in a line that snaked down an aisle toward the middle of the store. The managers who occasionally show up in the front area have elevated not making eye contact to an art form. I was in there the other day out of desperate necessity and watched a line back up at the (ironically entitled) 'Customer Service' desk because the manager had planted himself behind the lottery number generating-machine for about 15 minutes, laughing and chatting with a man who was making said lottery ticket purchase. Then I started doing a little comparison shopping around town for basic items like butter lettuce, cauliflower, dairy products and other things and realized that Safeway inexplicably charges more than comparable stores like Weiss. And I can't remember the last time Safeway handed me one of those nice, large discount coupons I used to get regularly for dropping almost $200 in their store every weekend. Fingers tightly crossed that the Harris Teeter due to open in one of the shopping centers under development can fill the hole left by this declining Safeway.

Horrible customer service. My cashier was on her cell phone texting while "helping" me. Her name is Nafi. Avoid her. She doesn't seem to care about working there or about the customers.

I've shopped at this Safeway for the past several years and it has gone downhill slowly!!! The store lighting is dim, the lines are always long with not enough lanes opened, there are entirely too many sale items on display in the isles giving the store a VERY cluttered appearance, the entrance door windows are dirty and again, there is simply TOO much going on as you enter the store (umbrella display, candy machine, gift cards, etc....not neat in appearance). Basically, the store looks dirty and unkept!!!!!!! Please please bring the old Safeway back where it was clean and bright and much better organized. If you are claustrophobia this is not the store for you. JUNKY!!!!! Also, consider putting the dry (non frozen) pie crust on a top shelf vs. the bottoms as there are lots of crumbs on the floor that management doesn't seem to care about. It is Pritti, Mr. Ed and the florist that keep me coming back to Safeway.

Coming from Southern California where Safeway is known as Vons or Pavilions, I was so excited to learn that locations were in my new city. I heart Safeway and yes I know they're pricey - but sometimes quality, and great selections are worth every penny.

Safeway and I truly have a love relationship going on. I tend to go to the store on Saturday mornings. They open up early, which is great, and they always have what I'm looking for. Also, the good folks working there are always helpful and are just so nice. I love Safeway and this is the only grocery store I go to.
