I have been to Jamaica the country once, and Negril the restaurant once. I give the country 5 stars and the restaurant 4. I thought the jerk drumette dinner was great.

Ok so my boyfriend and I were looking for a place to eat. He wanted beef patties so we decided to come here for some patties. When we walked in we decided to share a entree together and beef patties. The nice lady at the front told us they had lunch specials going on. We ordered a jerk drumette platter it came with rice with some yellow sauce, cabbage I asked for on the side my boyfriend don't eat vegetables, and the chicken. I expected it to be all drumette but it came with few whole wings. The meat just fell off the bones so we just separated the meat and mixed it in with the rice. It was a pretty bit bland for my opinion of jerk seasoning but overall was a good meal. The cabbage was just steamed cabbage nothing special. But eat the cabbage while its hot when it's cold it had a funky smell to it. The patties were on the crisper side. I prefer soft patties from 7/11 with hot sauce. But the filling was good it had a decent amount of spice and kick to the patties. I could adapt to the crisper beef patties from here. It was very cheap to the lunch special was only $6.00 for a decent amount of food. The portions weren't little it filled us both with only 1 entree. The beef patties were a little over a dollar. Plus we ordered a fruit punch not a big fan it tasted a bit funky to me. In total we paid $15.00 for a entree, drink, 3 beef patties. I felt really sad when they said they didn't have any hot sauce. Seriously no hot sauce? I always eat all my foods with hot sauce especially my beef patties. Next time I am so bringing my own hot sauce just incase. If your looking for a place with decent beef patties, fast entrees with a decent portion for under $10. Then this is the place for you. I don't understand why this place got such low reviews. Why would someone even come into a fast food Jamaican place with such high expectation? In my opinion it was fast service, yummy food, and cheap prices. This wins me over!

Take this w/a grain of salt. I eat there regularly, but always get the same dish. So this is really a one-dish review. Chicken soup. Enough said. We'll not quite. I feel gyped if the soup is missing the dumpling--check to see it's there and whine (yes make your self visibly and vocally disappointed) if it's not. Note the chicken will come in bone--so expect it. Recommend ordering soup Wed, Thurs or Fri. Tuesday if you have to have your Negril fix. Not Monday tho. It's made Mondays and improves as it progresses (ages) through the week. What else? Coco bread are just dinner rolls to me. Rice and peas means rice and beans although you might find a pea or even some jerk chicken in it. But I don't mind being in a rut and sticking w/ a dish when it's this good. $3.95 how can good be so inexpensive?

I came here tonight for dinner and was very disappointed in the quality of the food. The restaurant was clean and the employees were friendly. For dinner I had the curry chicken entree. It came with potatoes, a large amount of rice, and a very small amount of vegetables. The chicken was very under seasoned and the curry was watered down. The vegetables had no seasoning at all and were very bland. Not to mention that the chefs were Mexican which wouldn't have been a bad thing if the food was awesome. Not saying you have to be Jamaican to cook great jamaican food but someone who's had some experience cooking it or is familiar with jamaican food would be ideal in this case. I had to add hot sauce and salt just to make the food slightly tasty. Overall, I won't be coming back here and if you're craving Jamaican food this isn't the place to go!

Went there last night just before closing... Food was cold and watery. Tasteless no spices (thats the jerk chicken). And worst of all came across hair in my food,i have super short hair,it was long and curly. Had to throw it away ill never go back again. My advise is dont waste ur money

First time...maybe last ? Jerk Chicken was aromatic yet lack seasoning. Beef patty was tasteless...I prefer another country's version. I was very disappointed if jerk chicken taste like this one. I hope not and will still look for the best one in DMV. Very professional staff and clean location. The place was packed at 4PM on a Tuesday tho. I feel bad giving this low rating but its my take.

Lunch jerk chicken sandwich w/cocoa bread was the best in a long time. I have a Negril closer to me, but, I will make this trip back to this location again.

Nothing impressive here. From my understanding, Negril started off at a flagship location and expanded to two additional locations (including this one) and as a result, lost a significant bit of its authenticity in the process. Whenever I'm buying ethnic food from a restaurant, I'm a stickler for staff that come from the country of said of restaurant's specialty. Here at this particular location, I'm not sure if even one person is from JA. Sad. And you can taste it too. While the food is by no means terrible, it doesn't hit you with that POW that great, homecooked Caribbean food from the homeland does. It's good, but nothing to write home about. Try and take advantage of their lunch specials during the week from 11-3PM to get discounted meal prices.

If you just have to have Jamaican food and you're nearby, stop there. But don't expect the soup to be hot or the patties or the coco bread either. As a Jamaican, the food passes, but barely. Not a very welcoming location, but one of the cashiers is really really sweet.

Would not go back. Wings were very dry and tasted like they were re-heated several times and average flavor. Good service but food was very dissappointing

Idk what yal talking about , I love Negril! I always get the curry chicken special with rice and cabbage it's so good!
(4)Kapri J.
I live right around the corner from this location so whenever I need a quick Caribbean fix, I'm in here. I really love their coco bread and for someone who does not really eat beef patties like that, I seems to always order one from here. I am in love with their Jamaican punch and specialty drinks especially the one made with banana. Fruitylicious! This place is groovy

One of my girlfriends brought in lunch for us from this place, so this review is based strictly on a take-out experience. The jerk chicken was good quality white meat and the red beans and rice were well seasoned. I enjoyed the cabbage as well and will definitely try this place again.

I was very disappointed!! I ordered the Oxtails .... The Oxtails were not tender the peas and rice were dry. My food wretched of garlic. Not pleased at all with the $13.00 plus I paid. Does not compare at all to Jamaica House in RVA

I started eating at the Negril in Gaithersburg when I moved there in 2003. "Aunt Bev" was very welcoming and took care of her customers. My roommate and I went nearly every week! Where else can you get a DELICIOUS lunch (or dinner) for about $5? And be stuffed afterward? The jerk chicken sandwich was fabulous, and I remember the punch also being great. Even when the space was taken over by Antonio's Cafe, they still offered many of Negril's popular dishes. When I discovered the Negril in Laurel a few years ago, I was excited. Over the years, I've been many times, as it's near my office--and I always order a jerk chicken sandwich. While the food is good (hey, I keep going back every now and then, so it can't be that bad), it's not the same. If I HADN'T eaten a jerk chicken sandwich at another Negril location, I'd say it's great. But I know it's not as good as it's been in the past. There's something about the flavor--the complexity of the spices--that just is lacking what they used to have. And the sweet and sour poppyseed dressing isn't as good. The coco bread is relatively tasty. And the service is ok--just friendly enough, but not fabulous or anything. The bottom line: They make a good jerk chicken sandwich at a good price, so I'll still stop there occasionally to pick up a quick sandwich for lunch.

This place is never busy. I'm judging this place solely on my takeout experience. I ordered the curry goat and fried plantain. I was very disappointed in my meal. The meal was just BLAH. The cabbage was bland. The rice and beans that came with the dish was OK at best. The goat itself was just SAD. It was simply sad. I ate a little bit and left the rest to eat as leftovers the next day. The next day came, and the next, and the next, and I didn't touch it. If I can't eat my leftovers from a restaurant, it means that the dish was not good at all.

I ordered jerk chicken this evening. I asked for curry sauce on my rice...but no, they put jerk sauce. I get home...I'm starving, and I'm eating the rice and I pull a LONG hair out of my mouth! So disgusted. It was not clean inside, the tables were dirty, and there was a dirty bandaid on the floor. Only one girl behind the counter was really working. The other one was just kind of hanging around at the front socializing. Seriously, never again...and I really dont' think it tastes that great either so for all new customers, even if you like the taste, be wary because their cleanliness and practices around food are obviously not good....hair net anyone??!

I live off contee road, and i needed a curry chicken or oaxtail fix. I usually go to Golden Crust but living in laurel seem to far of a drive. I went to pick up a simple Curry Chicken with rice and peas. i was not satisfied with their finished product. The chicken seem like it was low quality meat and the cabbage did not amuse my taste buds. I will never go to the place again. If the curry chicken was bad why would i play for a oax tail dish (More expensive). i wont get my money worth if i do.

I grew up eating Jamaican food- i have eaten at probably 100 different Jamaican restaurants in my lifetime. Maybe my standards are too high for the ordinary person who eats Jamaican food once a year, but I was pretty disappointed after eating here. They really should take ROTI completely off of their menu! It tasted more like a flattened dumpling. Rubbery in texture- no flakiness! :( The filling was pretty bland and watery as well. The vegetable patty and coco bread was a little better- but not by much. The customer service was good though. The guys at the counter were friendly and made it a point to state that they were Jamaican. Maybe they get a hard time because of their appearance. But I know better. Jamaicans come in all varieties and don't necessarily "look" the same. #lovemypeople Anyway, I have no plans to return. If you looking for somewhat quick 'Americanized Caribbean food'... then yeah, check this place out. But if you're craving the real deal - keep driving... do not pass go.. do not collect $200! lol :-/
(2)Mike D.
Some of the best Caribbean food in the area. I've had authentic and though it's not quite to that level it's some of the best Americanized Caribbean food around. I'm all about the jerk and the stew chicken...with a side of coco bread...if I didn't think I'd gain forty to fifty pounds I'd eat here every day. Highly suggest this restaurant to anyone looking for a good Caribbean spot.

I went here for the first time today after months of saying to myself that I needed to try it. I went around 3pm and it wasn't very crowded, which was great. The place is also very clean and there were places to sit and eat if you chose to, I took mine as carry out. The menu selection isn't very expanded. I ordered curried shrimp with rice/peas and cabbage with a side of plaintains. This ran me about $16. The food was very bland-no seasoning at all to the cabbage, rice and faint curry flavor to the shrimp. There also were only about 8 pieces of shrimp on a california king bed size of rice/peas/cabbage. I expected more flavor and more shrimp-at least 1 shrimp to every 2-3 fork-full of sides. The plaintains were good, though MOST places don't mess those up too bad. All in all, I was highly disappointed for what I got for the price I paid. Island Cuizine is a nice spot in Windsor Mill off Liberty Road in Baltimore that has this place beat! I suggest for good flavor and meal fulfillment that you give them a shot. And the co-owner guy Donovon is uber sweet and courteous.

I LOVE Jamaican food....this place sucks rocks! The rice was dry, the curry sauce was nasty like brown gravy. The cabbage was horrible..... Stay away from this place. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
(1)Kirk S.
Oxtail was extremely over cooked, and there are fruit flies flying around. My first and last time there.

Terrible, terrible, terrible compared to the other Negril's in the area. Please send your staff over to Negril in Silver Spring or Mitchellville to learn how to actually cook certain dishes, such as the vegetable stew and vegetable roti. Will never return. We'll see how long this establishment actually lasts in Laurel. I'd give this place no stars if Yelp would allow it.

Hate to be a jerk (har har) but this place gets 2 stars from me. Barely. It used to be Red Snappaz - which was quite good actually - and the food is a major downgrade. Food - I used to love Negril in Silver Spring, especially their jerk chicken sandwich. Unbeknownst to me, the quality of the food at the SS location has gone down over the past year, so I visited Negril with fairly lofty expectations. The jerk chicken ($8.25), served with rice and peas and salad or steamed cabbage, is roasted, flavorless, and dry. While the rice and peas are good, they shouldn't be the best thing on the plate for a carnivore. The beef patties ($1.90) are good but not that much better than what you'd find in 7-11 or the freezer section of a Costco. The only redeeming factor was the fricassee chicken ($7.95) - curried chicken with a delectable sauce. The chicken was tender, the skin was roasted to perfection, and the flavor of the curry was excellent. And for that, I give them an extra star. For sides, I'd go with the salad - the cabbage was pretty bland. They offer a hot sauce, which is essentially crushed habanero peppers in vinegar, which isn't very flavorful, but adds a nice kick. Location - plenty of seating indoors. They have take-home boxes of beef patties, but like I said, stick with Costco. Service - was decent. Food took roughly 5-10 minutes to prepare. If you're in the mood for Jerk chicken in Laurel, I'd head to Aunt Susan's kitchen, or drive a bit further to Just Jerk in Lanham, which is my go-to for Jerk chicken in the area. I have fond memories of Negril, but those memories were crushed by a flavorless, dry chicken.

Beef Pattie - better than 7Eleven Jamaican beef patties Jerk Chicken - not too smoky; couldn't really taste the special seasonings
(2)Priya M.
I love this place better than the Silver Spring location. I tried the chicken roti with cocoa bread and fried plantains along with Ginger beer. Was the best I've ever had. Now this place has become a favorite of mine. Too bad I'm moving a little ways from Laurel but that won't stop me from coming here often.

We had the chicken curry with rice and beans lunch meal as well as the tilapia meal. Seriously delicious! Almost to the point where i needed to order another to go. This is great and I love it!

Let me preface this review by sharing that I basically grew up on food from the Negril locations in Mitchellville, MD and NW DC. After moving to Laurel, I was SO excited to hear that a location would be opening nearby. I visited the new restaurant shortly after it opened and was disappointed with both the level of customer service and the altering of the recipe. I have always ordered the same thing--chicken roti, sorrell, and a slice of carrot cake. Never before visiting the Laurel branch were there chick peas in my chicken roti. Gross! (And I happen to like chick peas.) Needless to say, I didn't visit this location for quite some time. I've actually continued to drive to the Mitchellville location when I just have to have some Jamaican food. Then last month I had a taste for carrot cake and decided to give the Laurel location another try. There was only one lady being waited on when I arrived (with two employees behind the counter--with two registers). I had to wait and wait and wait because the customer had no idea what she wanted. I can understand one employee helping the customer to make a decision---by why couldn't the other employee wait on me at the second register? Then when it was my turn, again I'm hit with less than stellar customer service. But the cake was good. Based on these two visits, I will not go to this location again.

This is an excellent eatery with a nice flavorful selection. It's also pretty spacious so you have good seating. The curry chicken and oxtail was very good. We also really like their brown stew chicken.
