I have been coming here now for years, and have never been disappointed by a meal. The jerk chicken is grilled and is amazing in its depth of flavor. In addition, the plantains and the peas and rice are always perfectly cooked. The people who own this restaurant take pride in their food, which may not be evident by the extremely divey outside appearance, but don't be deceived. There is a smokestack blowing for a reason! Needless to say, I love this restaurant. I love the experience of picking up my food, and selecting my D&G soda. You know who the regulars are, too- they all order their food ahead of time, and are in and out of the place in minutes. I am grateful that this place with such remarkable food exists in Maryland, and I will continue to support it.

For this establishment to be represented as "Jerk", on my visit they had nothing to offer! I ended up leaving with a beef patty and cocoa bread. I arrived there wanting and expecting to get jerk wings, they had no wings or legs? I would never go here. You would just be disappointed.

Went to Just Jerk for the first time today. The service was speedy. The place is clean and the woman who assisted me was pleasant. As for the food, in my opinion the portion size is perfect. I got the Large Jerk White Meat. It came with jerk chicken, plantain, cabbage, and rice w/peas. The chicken was tender and juicy. Although I didn't care for the flavors they added to the jerk, it was not nasty. The plantain had the perfect firmness. Not too firm and not too mushy. Plus it was not oily. The cabbage is okay but that is not a knock on them. I don't really like cabbage. The rice w/peas were fantastic!!! I can eat it all day. Soft & fluffy and not dry. Some Caribbean spots have dry tasting rice that makes me ask for some sauce to drench it in. Not at Just Jerk because their rice is made perfectly. All in all I like the place. I may go back again to see if the jerk seasoning tastes the same. I will recommend this spot to anybody because all of our taste buds are different and they may love the way the jerk seasoning tastes.

Decent, fresh, hot "Jerk". Fair warning... if you're looking for authentic Jamaican Roadside Jerk, this is NOT it. However, the grilled chx here is tasty, nonetheless. The sauce is more sweet than spicy. The Rice & Peas, and plantain were fresh. Cabbage was crisp and tasty. Very good amount of food for the $$. Note: CALL AHEAD! If you walk in during a busy time and place your order, you could be waiting for up to 45 mins. They will not compromise the quality of their food to provide super fast service, which I appreciate and understand.

Today was my first time and from the outside I was skeptical but I was greeted with friendly service and my order didn't take that long so I was impressed right there. Once I opened up that foil and saw that beautiful white meat covered in jerk sauce I knew I had hit the jackpot. It was so tender and moist and the flavor was amazing. I can't wait to go back!

If you want the real version of jerk chicken this is your place. I've been going here for several years now and the food is consistently delicious. I guess I'm a creature of habit because I like going to restaurant and know that the portions will be the same. At JJ's you won't be disappointed in that area. I always order the same thing: small dark jerk special which comes with a beef pattie (or you can get chicken) and a drink (any D&G soda goes nicely with it). For under $12 bucks it's a solid lunch deal before 2pm. There's no other place I will go to for authentic jerk. I made the mistake of ordering jerk salmon once when they ran out of chicken but this will never happen again. I was not a fan. TIP: Call ahead. It takes about 10-15 minutes to get your order on a slow day but that's because they're making it fresh. And, you can also ask for extra spicey if you're brave.

I went during lunch one day and it was very quiet and the food was prepared quickly even though the cashier originally said it would be 15 minutes. This is not a fast food place, so a wait would not have been a big deal. The jerk chicken is about on the same level of most of the places I've had in this area, but maybe a little better. The portions were large and the sides were delicious. Everything was really hot and well seasoned and still warm like an hour later in these aluminum containers. I really enjoyed the plantain and the cabbage. I do wish the peas and rice had more peas. I loved the chicken patty. Usually the filling for patties are dryer but this was juicy. The cocoa bread was also hot and fresh. I was expecting the big slices you normally get but appreciated this hot roll. I'd definitely go back.

I had the small jerk chicken plate that came with plantains, cabbage, and beans/rice mix. So tasty. I forgot to add that I bought a beef patty. I have to say the beef party tasted much like the brand you buy out of the frozen food aisle and I will put money down that it was the same. They are definitely not home made. Other than that the food is cooked as you order but still it was only about a ten minute wait. The plate was stuffed with food but I do wish there was more cabbage. All in all for $9 it is a great deal. You get way more of the bean/rice mix than cabbage. If you have time drop by but don't expect to sit down and eat. You get your food and you go. Parking can be a bit tight when busy but manageable.

Came here today for lunch after accidentally passing it when I got lost! Very happy that I did because it's a small place that most people probably drive right by. Very delicious & authentic food. Went with the simple white meat jerk chicken meal - delicious! The rice & peas were awesome and chicken was cooked perfectly. Will definitely go again if I'm in the area!

Authentic Carribean Cuisine... Most of the Menu Items are flavorful but the Jerk Chicken will have you thinking about a sunny day in Kingston!

I ordered the Brown Stew Chicken, which came with cabbage, rice and beans and plantains. My daughter ordered the white meat (chicken breast platter) which came with cabbage, rice and beans and plantains. We also ordered cocoa bread, a beef patty and York Castle custard (mango, orange pineapple and rum raisin). I was pleasantly surprised with the taste of the food from what looks like a shack on the outside. I assuming the design is supposed to give this establishment a back home feel. The chicken was delicious. Very tender and flavorful. I was not over excited with the plantains. They seemed a little dry. They might have been under the warmer too long. However the flavor was there. I love York Castle custard. It was delicious as always. I recommend Just Jerk and will be going back again to try something different.

After many rave reviews, I decided to give Just Jerk a try. I've passed this small storefront on several occasions and wondered what it was like. Some yelpers mentioned that they tend to run out oh white meat chicken so I call beforehand to be sure that they had it. I was told that they did. Once I arrived and placed order for White meat jerk chicken, the cashier informed me that they were out! Strike 1. I waited for my (dark meat) small jerk chicken platter for about 15 minutes. On the drive home I decided to taste it. The chicken and cabbage were lukewarm. I've had jerk chicken before and usually there is a kick to it... Not this jerk, it lacked flavor and did not taste fresh. The rice&peas and plantains were ok. I don't think I'll be returning.

I ordered some coco bread that's all. My bread was hard as though it was old. I'm very disappointed. Only good thing was the bread was warm.

I've been searching for good Caribbean food since I moved here 4 years ago, and I think I've finally found it. I ordered Curry chicken and it was delish! The chicken was seasoned well, cabbage and rice and peas were all amazing.

Probably the best Jerk Chicken I have had in the DMV! I have tried Negril, The Jerk Pit, Tropicana, Golden Crust, Troy's and some other places. Everyone of the ones I mentioned have something good about their jerk chicken, but I just prefer Just Jerks the most. I have enven tried places in Baltimore, which seem to have the better quality he DC areas spots.

Just Jerk satisfied my craving for Jamaican food. Everything was absolutely delicious. I usually can't handle spicy food but my jerk chicken meal was just right. I will definitely go back and try the curry chicken next.

About a 3.5: Just Jerk is a Jamaican Jerk House that offers freshly-cooked Jamaican food all-day; I've been wanting to try this place ever since I drove by it when I was in the area a few months ago. They offer Jerk Platters that come with rice & peas and a side of stewed cabbage (dark meat chicken, chicken breast, chicken wings, portobello mushrooms, kingfish, snapper, salmon, or shrimp); other entrees (Curry Chicken or Brown Stew Chicken); just chicken (dark meat, white meat, wings); Hero Sandwiches (with lettuce, tomato, and onion on coco bread; served with cassava fries; the Paul Bogle (jerk chicken breast); George William Gordon (jerk salmon); Nanny (turkey burger); or, the Marcus Mosiah Garvey (jerk portobello mushroom); and, various sides (patties, coco bread, festival, rice & peas, stewed cabbage, and plaintains). They offer daily lunch specials from 11AM-2:30PM, where you can choose either a small Dark Jerk Chicken, Brown Stew Chicken or Curry Chicken, which comes loaded with rice & peas, a side of stewed cabbage, a patty (chicken or beef), and a bottle of soda for $11! Yes, I though that was a great bargain! They also have a large portion, but the small is more than enough (as they totally jam-pack the meal to the brim!). My husband and I shared the Dark Jerk Chicken and the Curry Chicken, and tried both the chicken and the beef patty. I've only had jerk chicken once in Jamaica, from a jerk hut on the beach, and I remember it not being that flavorful. This place's chicken was very juicy and the flavor was good; I just wish it was more 'grilled.' However, there was a generous portion of the meat as well as a great serving of the rice & peas and the side of stewed cabbage. I wasn't much of a fan of the rice & peas as it had an off flavor to it; the stewed cabbage was actually nice and crunchy, and I enjoyed that a lot. I also enjoyed the plantains, as I love fried/sugary plaintains :D The Curry Chicken kind of reminded me of chana masala (the chickpeas dish); be careful of the small chicken bones throughout; this also had a lot of meat and was more 'savory.' I wasn't a fan of the beef patty, but I did like the chicken as it was spicy and tasted like chicken curry - I did wish the patty was deep-fried or something so it was crispier (it was actually quite soft). For our soda choices, I had the Jamaican Ginger Beer, and my husband had the Kola Champagne - the Ginger Beer was okay (very ginger-y), and the Kola Champagne tasted like Inca Kola. Service was friendly and quite efficient; this is only a carry-out, so you only have a line of chairs where you sit and wait. I would love to come back and try out their Brown Stew Chicken, the coco bread, and the cassava fries. Getting here is kind of a pain, as it's off of a 1-way, so you do need to make U-turns (if you miss it, you have to go around again). +daily lunch specials (only offered in 'small,' but more than enough to share!) +jerk chicken (maybe ask for extra jerk sauce?) +stewed cabbage +plantains +if offered a patty, choose the chicken instead of the beef

Delicious smokey and spicy jerk chicken. Really enjoyed the cabbage as well. Had a very distinctive ginger flavor that was very appetizing. My only regret was I didn't order more cocoa bread it didn't even survive the drive home before we devoured it. Great service and short wait for such a fresh well prepared meal. Will definitely return to try more items.

I'm fortunate enough to work a few miles away from this gem of a hole in the wall. Be warned, these are small quarters with a total 3 chairs in the entire place that people sit on to wait for their food. No tables. Seeing the clouds of bbq smoke heaven that come out of the place as well as the fantastic smell is always an inspiration to go in. The jerk chicken is fantastic, and what I'd recommend above all else including the curry and brown stew chicken. The jerk chicken is perfectly smoked with a somewhat sweet sauce packed with flavor. Patties are great too. They have lunch specials from 11- 2 where you can get a platter with jerk chicken, plantains, rice and peas, and cabbage, a patty, and a drink for 11. Good deal considering the platter has enough food for 2 people to have a hearty meal.

Update: 01/29/2014: I had the brown stew chicken today and it tasted almost like American barbeque chicken to me? Not so sure what that was about. It WAS my first time having brown stew chicken like ever, so I guess I expected something that it was not. I've heard people rave about brown stew countless times so I was expected an exotic spicy flavor like curry....maybe that's not what it is, but it forced me to retract a star. That and along with the fact that the beef patty wasn't hittin' like it usually does....but the food was still good, just wanted to provide an update.

Not a fan of the food. Maybe because I'm use to my Father In Law's homemade Carribean food and Tropicana (in DC and Silver Spring). I don't know, the food just isn't that great to me compared to the rest of the reviews, maybe I went on a bad day. But I ain't going back.

At lunchtime, I was in the mood for something besides soup/salad so I grabbed my phone to search Yelp. Just Jerk is less than 2 miles away from my office and a friend had given it a 5 star review. Admittedly, my first impression of the facility was huh???? This is it? I didn't order in advance because I wanted to go in and get a vibe of the place. There was a big menu posted and I was surprised there were so many options given the small operation. I settled on a small white meat meal which included cabbage, rice and peas, and plantains. I decided to wait in my car because the sitting area was full. The food was fresh, flavorful, smoky, and moist! Most jerk chicken is too spicy for me but I was able to handle the heat. The value was excellent as I ordered a small meal that you can easily split into 2 and I only paid $10. I can't wait to try some of their fish dishes, cocoa bread, and Caribbean ice cream. Just Jerk lost a star due to the preoccupied young lady who didn't want to end her personal conversation to take my order and seemed irritated that I had a few questions. She was curt with me but I noticed how friendly she was to the men that entered before and after...

To me this is where to get the best jerk chicken in the Metropolitan area. The location is sometimes a pain to get to but its well worth it.

This is only my second time coming here..! This is the only place that I would come and get real authentic Jamaican food... This time my order was made faster than McDonalds lol amazing customer service. Besides this place being a bit of an eye shore.. I recommend it

But, of course, it's not just jerk. It could be, though! Luckily for us, they are pretty ambitious restaurateurs and offer some other items on the menu. I have to say that the kingfish is excellent. Yum, yum, yum. Smoky, savory, satisfying. The jerk.... well, I forgot to ask for extra-spicy jerk. The jerk is pretty good. I'm not going to say it's what everyone will call authentic, because things are cooked a little differently here than on the islands. Their jerk is very close; and, better than any of the other local chains. I will come here, when in MD. Rice an' peas, cabbage, plantain.... everything is perfect and nice. They may not always have everything ready that's on the menu, so it might be better to call ahead. The service is good; and, there are chairs available, if you have to wait inside.

Went there yesterday for some chicken!! They told me there was a wait for 20 mins for the chicken. Worse custumer service. I will give a second try and see how its goes!

First off, the Coco bread is delicious. It was the biggest slice of Coco bread I've ever had at a Jamaican spot. The plantains were on point. The jerk chicken was spiced right, what more can I say?? It is a carry out only, but do not let that stop you from picking up some food.

Mi sooo wanted this nyam to be gud mon... however the establishment is very clean, the wait was about 15 minutes for what taste like lightly marinated grilled jerk chicken homemade jerk marinated

Oh how I love this little hole in the wall!! Did I mention love? This place is on my must stop in list every time I am in MD. The small jerk chicken (white) is my go to dish & it is plucking incredible. I will highly concur with Jessi

My husband and I love this place! The jerk chicken white meat platter is tha bomb. Plantains sweet and perfect. The jerk sauce is to die for. My only complaint is that, they sometimes run out of jerk chicken and white meat, when it's like 3-4 hours before closing, which is very frustrating when you're calling a place that closes at 8 at 5 and they tell you they have have run out of jerk chicken at a place called JUST jerk. All in all I give it 4 stars.

Touting itself as a Jerk House, the house's special of Jerk Chicken was the first main course that I ordered. I was looking forward with great anticipation to this dish, and each bite was a revelation in savouring proper Jerk cooking after having tasted less-satisfactory versions elsewhere. This place really gets this food preparation right. The meat had the flavorings and seasonings well-penetrated into every morsel while remaining moist and succulent. The skin was crispy and smoky from the charcoal grilling, with the fat completely rendered, which is the only way Jerk should be cooked, unlike the baked versions. But it is the jerk spice flavorings on top that make this dish truly successful and spectacular, tasting of the fiery Scotch Bonnet peppers, the dark sweet notes of allspice, the woodsy and minty Caribbean thyme, and the depth of flavor brought by vegetable aromatics. On another visit, an order of the Jerk Kingfish had similar treatment but I found the fish a bit too dry for my taste, which is common in seafood cooking outside of North America. The accompanying sides were equally well-cooked and well-seasoned, attempting to steal the show from the main star: the rice and peas filled with flavor with al dente and not mushy pigeon peas (obviously house cooked and not tinned), the fried sweet plantains cooked at the right stage of sweet ripeness which should be called dessert, and the stewed cabbage made fragrant from fresh thyme and still slightly crunchy from the light cooking. The portions were big and I could make two meals out of each order. As I write this blog those fantastic jerk flavors are still haunting my taste buds. To read rest of review and view photos, check out my blog at Wongeats.

This place is always my go to spot for Jamaican food! As other yelper's stated, it is a small hole in the wall, which might deter you from going in. Don't let that stray you away, you'll regret it lol. This place is more of a carryout spot, so don't expect to stay and eat. Now to the food- so flavorful! I guarantee you, Just Jerk has the best jerk and curry chicken in this area. They also give you large portions...even the small, I can share at least with two other people and still be full. The meat is always tender. Give this place a try, you will keep going back. I kinda don't like to rave about good spots because I want to keep it to myself lol. Only con- service can be slow sometimes, its best to call in on your way there.

  • Delie H.

Let me preface this review by letting you know; I am Jamaican. I know how jerk is supposed to taste. I ordered the large dark chicken platter and some festival. It came with a good amount of grilled chicken, rice and peas, cabbage and plantain. Note I said grilled. This is not jerk chicken, the flavor was on the sweet side, a tangy BBQ sauce without the bite...not the smoky, spicy smell that hits your nose and gets you salivating..I digress. Where was scotch bonnet pepper? It was severely needed. The rice and peas were okay, the plantains were sweet and also saturated in oil. The festival was burned on the outside and doughy on the inside. Maybe I went on a bad night. I don't think I'll go back. I cannot do greasy plantain and Sweet grilled chicken. I need jerk! Just not from here.

The problem I have with this place is it's inconsistency, My brother came up from Florida and he was craving this food the problem was on more than one occasion right in the start of the business no matter what time you go, they always seem to run out of white meat? The food was luke warm and it was terrible. I have eaten here before and it was okay plus I'm not big on Island Food but it was suitable. I will admit the service was better than it use to be but other than that I won't be eating here again. If my brother wants this type of food I will take him to the Muffin Man...

I am totally smitten with this spot. I randomly dropped in on my way to work after seeing it for years. Man am I glad I did! I am in no way an expert on jerk chicken (I can tell you it does NOT taste like BBQ chicken....) nor do I like spicy food so not sure how spicy it is for regular. Got the small, mild, dark jerk. So glad I prefer dark as they run out of white a lot apparently. I didn't put my fork down! A little bit sweet and super flavorful. I now go here quite frequently and am always satisfied. Just recently tried the beef pattie and it is freakin awesome!!! Hands down the best I have had. Also have tried the curry chicken which was very tasty and flavorful as well.

  • Carol B.

I went to this place a couple of times, but on the third time I was not impress with the food nor the service my rice and peas was like the bottom of the pot so it's like rice was burnt,I call to let them know about it but they weren't to happy to take it back, the fact that I'm Jamaican means I know what the food should be like and taste like so I was not happy with the food or there customer service after that experience I vow never to go back there ever and I have kept my word

  • Brian B.

Best Jerk in DC area hands down. I've lived here my entire life and have traveled far and wide to get my fix, and this place is the only one to leave me jonesing for more. It is a carryout, so don't expect to be eating there.

    (5)
  • Michelle B.

This is a little carryout producing some major food. This is the type of food that will make you sleepy...so I feel like it is more appropriate for dinner. I ordered a platter that came with rice & peas, cabbage, and plantain. I really enjoyed this Jerk Chicken. It has a sweetness to the sauce that makes it addictive. I am so glad I ordered the large which was two meals for me. I ordered a mix of dark and white meat, and everything was moist and delicious. I would definitely return.

  • Eng P.

I had curry chicken so I can't vouch for the jerk because they were out. The curry was tender. I don't think the seasoning was strong enough, though. It definitely wasn't knock your socks off curry chx but it wasn't bad either. The plantains were really good, and the rice and beans and cabbage were standard. I was craving Jamaican, so I tried this spot. You do get tons of food, though. I bought the small plate and have enough for another meal tomorrow. I don't know about it being the best in the area--I still have plenty of Jamaican spots to try, but there seems to be a shortage of truly good Jamaican spots in this area. I've had better Jamaican in Charlotte, NC. The cashier was really nice, too, so that's definitely a plus.

Awesome chicken....moist, flavorful, saucy, good portion, good price....i'd put a ring on it.

  • Carian D.

This is the best Jerk chicken in my opinion in the area. Why? Because of the smoke and well seasoned taste. I always get the large white jerk chicken platter and I am never disappointed. The portion is generous and i have enough for sometimes 2 or 3 meals. Go and you will get hooked!

  • Joe B.

Its OK. I've tried most jamaican places and I must say this one was pretty tasty but not a very strong 'jerk' taste. As most have mentioned its more tangy than authentic jerk. Portion size was decent. What I did not like was the fact that their wall menu DOES NOT tell u that your meal comes with plantains. I do not eat plantains. I mentioned to the counter lady that it does not say that and i would have ordered something else and she just laughed it off and told me the take out menus have it but they are all out. Why would I be looking at the take out menu if I am standing inside looking at a menu??? With that said I would go again to try the brown stew chicken and that would likely be my last time going. On to the next in search of great Jamaican fare

I just so happen to see this small place as I was driving to a different destination and I'm happy I stopped to try their food. It's a little shack that had Jamaican music playing that made you want to dance while you were waiting for your food. I had the curry chicken and my friend had the jerk chicken. Both meals were very good. We both would have liked a little bit more sauce. The sauce was a little salty and the chicken slightly dry for both meals which is why I gave four stars instead of 5. Also be careful of the little bones in the curry chicken. The jerk chicken was also very good and not too spicy. We got the $11 special which consisted of a chicken meal, beef patty, and a soda. Awesome deal. I got the ginger beer which had a little too much ginger for my taste but still was pretty good. The beef patty was also good but I could've done without the excessive amount of breading on it. Overall I think this is a place you should definitely try.

Came here after a work meeting. There really isn't a place to sit inside and it's a hole in the wall but it prob the best jerk chicken I've had in this area. Their spicy is really really spicy. I can eat spicy and my mouth was on fire! Their beef patties are also really good. I got a combo of jerk chicken with rice, plantains and stewed cabbage with a beef party and a drink for 11. So yum. I want to try their stewed chicken if I'm ever in the area again.

I am a fan!! The food was sooo good!! I had the mild jerk chicken combo. The white meat was so juicy, seasoned well and it wasn't spicy. I will definitely go back again.

I have a little work around Lanham tomorrow, so I put this joint in my route, and I'm on a diet, but for Just Jerk - I simply just don't give a shit. It's so nice to have something like this around the DMV. Last time I went, I got the spicy dark meat meal which came with the cabbage, beans and rice, and fried plantains, all very flavorful. Let me put it to you this way, if you put that meal at the back of your neck, your tongue will slap the shit out of your face trying to get to it! Aside from that, the service was perfectly fine. I was able to render a slight smile from the beautiful girl working behind the counter. I'm easy, often times a simple smile goes a long way.

I like this place. My food was delicious and there was a lot of it. It wasn't as spicy as I'd have liked, but my curry was fall-off-the-bone tender and the spices were great. It's a hole-in-the wall, not sparkly clean, kind of in a scungy little area, but the kitchen was serviceable and the cook, server and a person who seemed like the owner were very clean and neat. It's a little hard to find, and your Garmin will put the place a block or more away from its real location. If you pass it, just go around the block to the left - more than a little intimidating, because it looks like you're getting on an expressway to the other side of DC, but it's not bad and you'll figure it out. Thanks, Just Jerk. I'm glad you were still serving at ten minutes to close and that you had curry left. I'll be back. Go there.

I am a big fan of their jerk chicken. It has great flavor and just the right amount of spice. i only wish they were a little bigger so that people could eat in. Otherwise this has to be one of my favorite places to come and get jerk chicken

Yum! I had the small jerk chicken platter (mild) and it was delicious! Love that I could ask for white meat for just $1 or so more. Love the plantains that come with it - great lil' bonus. I do not often come to this area, but is definitely worth the trip. And don't say I didn't warn you: the restaurant itself needs Gordon Ramsey to come in and spruce up the place up. I ordered ahead (highly suggested) and so I was able to be in-and-out, but if I had to sit there and wait for my food, I know I'd start examining all the crevices, baseboards, counters, chairs from afar and thinking twice about getting my food here. Eek! But it really did taste oh-so-good! I'd go back for the exact same order over and over...

This place is incredible, and worth the drive from DC to Lanham. The jerk chicken here is - seriously - the best I've ever had. Sold customer service coupled with the grilled jerk chicken, you can't beat that.

Best jerk outside of Jamaica. Eaten here twice now, great food, huge portions. Worth the drive to eat here!

First review as a Yelper but Just Jerk deserves it! I ordered quarter white jerk with plantains, cabbage with Rice&Peas! Knocked me for a loop! Great food! Going back today lol

So far, (and I'm talking decades of personal research) THIS IS THE ABSOLUTE BEST JERK CHICKEN ON THE PLANET. (Whispers reverently, perhaps the universe). I'm a white meat jerk chicken junkie. The seasoning is sublime elixir with just the right combination of allspice and scotch bonnet peppers. It goes all the way through the meat. Its tender and juicy AND cooked ALL the way through. If you select the wings, they too are cooked to tender perfection. Caution, one bite has the meat falling off the bone. Usually sides are just sides, but here you can actually taste the coconut in the rice and peas. (Red beans). Oh and the Festivals, (please eat them hot) are a religious experience in puff, sweet and cornmeal. I live in NYC. I used to live in Brooklyn. I've had jerk chicken in Jamaica, pulled sizzling from a pit...NOTHING has surpassed this spot in Lanham, Md. (Yet. I'm waiting and still conducting personal research. This is a life long project.). The brown stewed chicken is pretty damn good too.

They are "OK". The jerked chicken has an ok flavor. But they are SOOOOO SLOW!!! OMG, call ahead to order! But the staff is super nice.

Just JERK is some place I go to get take out at least once a month! The best Jerk I know of on this side of town. They give you large portions so even a small order with the 2 sides goes a looong way. You get the smokey grilled flavor from the chicken, the cabbage is well seasoned and crunchy (not soggy like its been sitting for hours), the rice is fluffy with good texture. This place does not cut corners, every time I go the food is consistently well prepared. Now once you get comfortable call your order in as sometimes there is a 10 minute wait. My favorite after work meal is the 2 piece dark meat small (tender and juicy) with rice and peas, along with the cabbage. Runs around $10.The people are extra cool there. Vegetarians or those cutting back on meat: They do jerk vegetables (like mushrooms and tofu) too. Recently I have been seeing that they have added brown stew chicken to the daily menu. They have all the tasty island drinks and sodas beside ginger beer available. Along with ice cream in very exotic flavors Guinness, pineapple, rum raisin, mango, and the list goes on! Just Jerk is a Jamaican Jewel in the rough!

I literally just read all this reviews and got hungry so I drove 1 hour to this place in the thunderstorm (yes am a fatty) . I ordered 2 large Jerk chicken,Curry chicken and coco bread. I had to pull over on the highway bcos the curry chicken is soooooooo freaking yummy. I am not a huge jerk chicken fan but my friend liked it. Its soft and not too spicy he says. Coco bread is yummy so it was definitely worth my drive. I shall do this again but for the curry chicken.. I tore that thing up on the highway....

Absolutely delicious, so far I've had the jerk and curry chicken, both are super yummy. Cabbage, yummy.... Plantains, yummy..... Rice and peas.... Yummy. Only problem, you have to pay attention or you'll drive right past it. Kind of in a shady looking area but seems safe enough. So worth the visit, the food is EXCELLENT. Next on my list to try from here is the jerk salmon.

best jerk chicken I have had in the states. Most people think Jerk chicken is always spicy and hot. that's a myth, I have had Jerk chicken in a lot of islands in the west indies and Jamaican as well as all the Caribbean touristy places. More often than not it's sweeter and more herbal than spicy. This place does it right and I have been looking for a long time for the real deal. They even chop the bird like it should be. Kinda dingy and the staff could be friendlier but go here for good chicken.

Rice & Peas were great. Cabbage very good, but the jerk chicken wings were just ok. Will try it again.

I was addicted to the jerk chicken but the last couple of times I went here the chicken was rubbery as if it had been frozen and thawed more than once. I am moving on in search of better chicken elsewhere.

I was visiting the area and turned to Yelp to find my dinner spot. Just Jerk was more interesting than the other places in the area so I called in an order and brought it back to my hotel. Let me tell you, this is damn good chicken, mon! The jerk chicken has a wet rub that is full of spices but not spicy, and a bit of sweetness. If you want more spice, they have some hot sauce that you can spread on your food. The beans and rice and fried plantains are great, and the crunchy Jamaican slaw ands some nice and freshness to the meal. Definitely give it a try sometime. You won't be disappointed. FYI, their website seems to be down, but you can find their menu here: facebook.com/photo.php?f…

The Best Beef Patties. My brother had brought home some food from this place and I told me to give it a try. I really wasn't in the mood to try anything new, but I was starving and decided to have a bite of the last beef patty. MAN this was so freaking good. I got in my car to drive back out to this place and get 4 more. I also ordered the rice and chicken because I figured "well I'm already out here". I'm not bashing the food or anything but it just was not my thing. The spices were great and rice was good. I will go back to get some more patties though. Mmmmm.

Sadly, we arrived at Just Jerk too late to have the regular famous chicken. All they had left was chicken curry and chicken stew. Both were great, better than I expected. Wish we could have had a chance to get the regular chicken before leaving the area! Bonus for the ear-blasting dancehall.

Im Jamaican, and I went to this location and its by far the best jerk I've had since I've moved here in December. The staff was friendly and I've told all my friends about this location. They took me back to Jamaica. Also the Patties were off the chain.

This restaurant ROCKS. I love Jamaican food and there are sooooo many knock offs when compared to Just Jerk. I have told all my friends about this restaurant and not one of them has been disappointed. I like the fact it is small and that it is selective in the menu. I read some of the reviews complaining about what the restaurant does not offer, but BELIEVE me if you like Jerk chicken this is the place you want to go.

I have never liked Jerk Chicken much, but this place has changed my mind. I got the dark meat meal with cabbage and fried plantains. I'lll admit, I punished off half of it in the car #coverseyes. Its kind of in a hidden location, so slow down when you approach the area so you don't miss it. I've drove past this spot daily for years and some fellow yelper reviews had me determined to try it out. It was absolutely delicious. Not too much vinegar or soy sauce-- I ordered it spicy and it had a nice kick of sweetness to it. It was seasoned just right. Not much for scenery inside, nowhere to sit and eat. Typical caribbean store atmosphere-- reggae on full blast, traditional drinks, party flyers and plenty of advertisements. Just go in pick up your food and enjoy it elsewhere. You wont be disappointed at all.

Well I don't claim to be a Jamaican food specialist, but I do know good chicken! And this place has good chicken! I scoped out Just Jerk when I got my job in Lanham about a year or so ago. Now I'm moving jobs and had to finally get over there to see just how good this place is and it didn't disappoint. It is a bit of an adventure for the first-timer, the place is quite out of the way, blink and you'll miss it! There is a counter where you can eat in but I don't really recommend it, this is a take-out place. I ordered the small white with a side of the festival bread and since I'm a wimp with spice I didn't order it spicy. It took a good 20 minutes to arrive but when it did it came with yummy rice and beans, cabbage, and plantains. With the festival bread the total came to less than $12 bucks. I took it back to the office and was the envy of my coworkers and there was so much food! I couldn't finish but was happy with the attempt. PS: As others have mentioned be careful of bones, I found quite a few in mine.

Where's there's smoke there's flavor!! This is my go to spot in PG County for jerk chicken. The rub they use is sooooo good. If you like it real spicy you'll have to ask. I get it either way depending on how I'm feeling that day. The cabbage is nice and crunchy, the rice cooked perfectly and the chicken is always tender. I'm a dark chicken girl but the white isn't dry at all. I tried a chicken patty once and it was also good. If it's lunch time I would suggest calling in your order. The wait can be long sometimes. I'll branch out one day and try some of the other menu items, but right now I'm stuck on the jerk!

I've been here twice so far. The first time, I was over the moon with my spicy large dark Jerk Chicken meal. The chicken was the juiciest and most flavorful jerk I have ever experienced, the cabbage and rice and peas were delicious, and even the plantain was awesome! I wasn't even bothered by the obscure location and the lady taking orders who was somewhat unfriendly. I went again today and felt a little different. I should start by saying that I was flustered because I forgot exactly how to get there (my fault). As I attempted to order their small dark jerk chicken special (smaller version of the large that comes with a patty and drink), the lady interrupted me and said, "Which jerk chicken special?!" Confused, I point at the sign taped to their counter. I also ordered a large for later. After a couple minutes, I realized that I forgot to say spicy. I asked her if it was too late and her answer was "Probably." She did put two containers of the spicy sauce in my bag, but didn't include eating utensils or a napkin. Overall, the patty was good and the mild chicken is OK. I'm a sucker for good customer service (especially when I'm spending over $20 during the lunch hour!), so I'm not sure if I'll go back. If I do, I'll be sure to get spicy. I'd still recommend this place to others who are able to overlook the unfriendly service.

Just Jerk caught my eye as I was driving by. I decided to make a U-turn, which isn't easy to do, given the awkward location of this place. Well, it was worth the effort. I ordered the extra spicy light meat jerk chicken and it turned out to be some of the best jerk chicken I've eaten- and I've eaten a lot. The large order comes with rice & peas, cabbage and plantains which were all good. When you see a place named "Just" anything, your expectations are high because as the name implies, they have decided to do one thing well. Just Jerk does jerk well.

This food was deeeelicious. The jerk chicken wings were very good. The best I've had in the area thus far actually. The rice and peas weren't dry like most Caribbean restaurants I've tasted. The plantains were soft and sweet. Just a all around good Lunch. I will definitely frequent this place. The best authentic Jamaican cuisine I've had at a restaurant thus far. Even my husband liked it and he's Jamaican and hard to impress. Next I want to try the Fish....

This place is definitely worth the drive if you don't live near!!! My first time visiting was on a whim. You can taste the food before you actually taste the food, the smell is just that filling. Now if you're looking for a place with great decor, this is sooo not the place for you. Its basically a little colored shack turned restaurant. The best thing about this place are the flavors, the flavors definitely burst in your mouth and made me fell like I was back in Jamaica. Also the menu offers a lot of variety. I ended up choosing the vegetarian platter, with jerk mushrooms. They were cooked to perfection, with the right amount of jerk seasoning. And the rice and peas were great, also the coco bread was very fresh. I would definitely reccommend this place if you are interested in some authentic Jamaican food!!!

Check out these sexy Jamaicans sunbathing: yelp.com/biz_photos/-9nD… Ooooh...that is the sex. Anywho, for those of you keeping score at home, I went to Jerk Pit yesterday for my first stateside jerk chicken experience. I told my wife and she was intrigued, and I discerned that she felt left out and somewhat jealous that I didn't save any for her*. So being the great husband I am, I decided to pickup some jerk chicken before taking her to her appointment with her orthopedist. Olivia D., who seems to be an expert on jerks of the Jamaican variety, recommended Just Jerk, so I Yelped it thinking I'd get an FTR, but alas! Food - Where there is smoke, there is fire. Where there is smoke billowing out of a flue, there is Su K. I came at 11am, and there was already smoke billowing out of this little shack on Rte. 450 ( yelp.com/biz_photos/-9nD… ). The food is fairly expensive here - more than $10/person for a platter. I ordered a 1/2 chicken dark ($8.50) since they didn't have a 1/2 chicken platter, rice and peas ($2.60), one chicken and one beef patty ($1.99) and festival ($1.25 for 2). The chicken is charbroiled to perfection! Whereas Jerk Pit tasted like Jerk Bake, this stuff was Jerk grilled on coals. Mmmmmmm! I cannot emphasize enough how much charcoal goodness lies in each bite. I asked for the chicken spicy and it was about as spicy as Texas Pete or Frank's Red Hot - next time I'll ask for extra spicy. The seasoning was delicious and I could eat that skin all day. Thankfully, my wife is more health conscious than I am, so she gives me her skin. Now that's love! The chicken doesn't come w/ any extra sauce but the lady was nice enough to give me one spicy and one mild. I preferred the sauce at Jerk Pit, but this chicken is unreal. If El Pollo Rico is mi amor, Just Jerk is mah brudda, mon! The chicken is chopped in such a way that you'll probably bite into a bone or two. The "phestival," which is a cross between a Costco churro and a phallic symbol ( yelp.com/biz_photos/-9nD… ) was sweet but unnecessary since the chicken wasn't that spicy. The beef patty was delicious and spicy, with a perfectly flaky crust. Flaky crust = good. Flaky friends = bad. I will no longer call those inferior patties at 7-11 Jamaican. The chicken patty tasted like curried chicken - not as good as the beef. And the rice and peas were simply rice and peas. Location - it's a carry-out only shack. Located along a particularly crappy portion of 450 - you have to make a u-turn if you get off the Beltway. They also have York Jamaican ice cream in flavors such as mango, soursop, guinness and rum raisin, and me thinks them Jamaicans know a thing or two about rum. 1/2 pint for $2.90, pint for $5, and quart for $8. I was thoroughly amused as I heard a Jamaican rendition of We Are the Champions on the radio as I was waiting for my food. There's also a wide selection of juices including stuff from Jamaica and tons of Nantucket Nectars. Note: this place is not wheelchair accessible. Service - the food took about 20 minutes. I imagine during peak hours, it can take even longer. If you're also environmentally conscious, you may not like this place b/c they use enough foil to make Jim B. another foil armor suit ( static.px.yelp.com/photo… ). Also, the lady didn't have a Jamaican accent at all. Disappointing! Unbelievable chicken! If you're ever in Lanham, which I doubt you are, give Just Jerk a try! * So I says, "Yeah. I got you jerk chicken." Her: Ummmm...ok..y? Me: Well, when I was talking about it yesterday, you had this longing look on your face like you wanted to try it as well... Her: Uhhhhh...are you sure that wasn't just wishful thinking? FYI: This happens almost on a daily basis.

I'm no jerk chicken expert, but this was DELICIOUS. I got the large while meat platter, which came out at $12, and for that you get a big hunk of meat, on top of some rice, fried plantains and some cabbage. I went for half spicy (VERY spicy - essentially copious Jamaican hot sauce slathered on) half regular, and both were great. Will go for the non-spicy option next time so I can taste the delicious spice rub better. Plantains are not really my thing but had a nice char to them, cabbage and rice were not too exciting until infused with the spice rub and the spicy sauce. Meat's definitely the star of the show. It's a take out place (probably 5 mins from order to food ready) but they do have a counter you could eat at, and while it might seem slightly intimidating pumping out jamaican dancehall (I think that is what it was) and interesting characters, but everyone was actually very friendly. Excellent.

Not usually a chicken lover, but the spicy curry sauce, plantains, and rice-and-beans were great!

The best jerk in the DC area. Plain n simple! The white meat jerk chicken is my favorite. (watch for the small bones) It comes with spicy peas and rice and Jamaican cabbage. Try the spicy beef patties and plantains are also good too! I went to Jamaica and to be honest, Just Jerk is even better! It's worth the drive!!

If you want your chicken jerked right, go to Just Jerk. The restaurant has no seating to really speak of, so it's a grab and go sort of place. The food is good. When you're eating it though, watch out for small bones that didn't already fall off.

After reading the reviews here on Yelp I decided to Just Jerk. It was lunch time and it was 5 minutes from my job. Good enough. I ordered the small curry chicken. Just spicy enough for me, which would probably be mind to most. I used to having yellow rice with it, but the rice provided was good. I'm not sure what to call the rice and bean? Red or brown? The cabbage was good and I even tried the plantain which was good as well. I wll be back for lunch soon.

Frequented most by the PG Jamaican community, JUST JERK stands alone for flavor, taste, and Caribbean dishes. Because the cook is very meticulous, the wait for your order can seem prolong; therefore, order your food in advance. The best jerk Chicken in Prince George's County.

  • Bethany M.

Their food here is amazing! My husband and I have made it a staple, and go there every Thursday. It's only takeout, but it's so worth it. Their platters have so much food, and the coco bread is out of this world. I can't say enough good things about this place. Try it out, and if you like it hot, order it "spicy." You'll be glad you did!
