Update: better every time I visit. I've eaten here twice since my review. Each time the food and service was excellent. This time I came in for a late lunch. I was greeted quickly and sincerely by the hostess, and given the choice of eating in the bar or restaurant section (I chose the latter). The waitress was friendly and efficient. I had my drink order (Guiness Stout) within little over a minute of sitting down. The cup of combined cream and red crab soup was served right after I got my drink. It was superb, as always. I highly recommend it. Next were rockfish tenders, a starter I had as my main meal. They are fantastic.

I've driven by for 30+ years and finally decided to check it. Boy am I glad I did. The A1 Steak was fabulous and hubby enjoyed the Gunpowder Lodge wrap. We will be back!

One of my favorite restaurants. Love the atmosphere and everyone is always friendly and attentive. Great place for the kids as the back is full of outdoor picnic tables and a playground area. I'm hoping to make it to their Sunday brunch one day! Our favorites are the bison burgers, bbq chicken nachos and the jerk chicken salad.

Reeeeaaaaalllllyyyy Good Food!!! Really Good. Blackened Chicken sandwich for me. My wife is vegetarian and she was happy to see several options she could choose-she selected the portobello mushroom sandwich. It was a decent portion, and she remarked that the sandwich had great flavor-not just an afterthought to give a vegetarian choice. And delicious dessert tray to pick from. The only reason we didn't give five stars was the service was awfully slow. Pleasant and adequate for our needs, just slow. Even drink refills were slow, not just the kitchen. There is a weekly brunch we will be back to try. The atmosphere is very casual and family friendly during the day. Open dining room gets a little loud, but wood fixtures and a stone fireplace make it cozy.

For YEARRSSSS... my family and I have been driving past this building -(that's randomly sitting on a main highway by itself), and we finally got around to stopping in for a bite to eat for Easter Brunch. I was a little taken aback that the "buffet" was served in the bar area but they had a pretty delectable setup. A man running two waffle makers and then one table of breakfast (bacon, eggs, sausage, eggs benedict, chipped beef, biscuits) and then lunch (penne pasta, cajun rice w/shrimp, mango rice, carved ham and turkey). They also had a small table setup with danishes, bagels, fruit, cheese, crackers, veggies, and some drinks. What I can tell you is that I really rather enjoyed my food - especially the Cajun rice with the shrimp! My family was raving about the rice for days. Overall, the price was just right and the food was way better than expected. What I enjoyed the most though? Looking out the back windows - they have a HUGE grassy area with a GIANT kids playground set and picnic tables... so that you can make a day of it. Grab yourself some lunch at Gunpowder Lodge and let your kids play on the set while waiting for you a food: it's a WIN-WIN!

The shrimp quesadilla and fries are good but do NOT get the rockfish wrap. I don't even believe it is actually rockfish. It was so fishy we couldn't swallow it. The other ingredients on the wrap were great, so it was quite a disappointment that they didn't serve quality fish.

We love Gunpowder!! We have been going every single Sunday for brunch. Everything tastes great and the brunch has a nice variety. The owner says hello and asks how everything is during every visit. I tried lunch for the first time today...the jerk chicken salad with mango in it. As always, deliciousness! Awesome staff, good food, relaxed atmosphere. Certainly a must try!

Loved it. After the chain restaurants in White Marsh (I'm the the area for work) this place was fantastic.

Great place to drop in for a burger and a drink. And now they have fries! Nice setting, clean, good crowd, and easy parking.

As promised, we went back. And I am so happy we did!! Excellent service: hostess & server were super friendly & attentive Food came out quickly & we highly enjoyed it all. Husband had the steak & crab cake. I had the chicken philly. The bar seemed to be buzzing because it was happy hour. Definitely a great location for a great meal!

We came for brunch one Sunday morning. Enjoyed the feel of this place. The brunch buffet was fairly average but the prime rip cuts were good. Unlimited mimosas were a nice bonus. All in all I had a good meal and so did she. Make sure you walk out back and explore the creeks and river behind the lodge. Beautiful place.

Number one thing about this place that stood out to me was how kid-friendly it is! The picnic tables outside had raised seats for the little ones, and the playground equipment looked new and safe. It's nice to be able to watch your 2 year old WHILE sitting down to eat. Which brings me to the food. We arrived early enough that they were still serving the brunch buffet, which a few of us opted for-fruit and cold eggs, no thanks! We were told we had to wait 25 minutes to order from the lunch menu at 12:00, but our waitress was happy to take our order a few minutes early. Our friends ordered the nachos and they were pretty tasty. I ordered the BBQ chicken wrap without bacon and potato salad on the side. My husband had the gunpowder burger, which he rated "ehhh ok ". But my wrap was really moist and yummy! It had a little of a pulled pork feel to it and a little kick as well! The potato salad had wasn't really my thing but I should've known that being German potato salad with bacon in it. My daughter had a grilled cheese sandwich with the fruit cup (fruit cocktail of peaches/pears), which she seemed to enjoy while she took a break from her 500 trips down the slide. I would definitely return here although in the winter I imagine my 2 year old would not have as much fun.

Food was exceptional, service was so slow we had to ask for takeout boxes by the time it got there

Been going here for about 3 months....the food is amazing. The bar and wait staff are friendly and responsive. This place is like a best kept secret imo.....great beer to and a fabulous atmosphere. 10 out of 10.

This place has rocks when it comes to food tasting great. It was a few dollars more for things in general but worth it. Got the crab brushetta for an app. It was a sensible portion and was plated attractively. I did get their angus burger with BBQ, cheese, and bacon....awesome. My wife got a chicken cheesesteak and loved it. There were some drink specials and specials on burgers on Thursdays. I'll be back. Hope they don't change a thing. Go eat here...you will thank me.
(5)Jackie L.
Love this place, it is my favorite new bar in the area. The atmosphere is great and the food is even better. I only wish they had a few more tables in the bar!

Great restaurant. I frequent GPL a lot and have never had a bad experience. The food is outstanding and the staff is always friendly. The only downside id that they don't have a deep fryer; however everything they offer on the menu makes up for it. The weekly specials are great and if they are popular they get added to the regular menu.
(5)Tom I.
The service was great! I'm glad this old biker bar was converted to a mid priced restaurant with a good selection of beer and some decent priced entrees. Specials change weekly and range from rockfish tacos to surf and turf. The great news is they don't even have a fryer. Even the wings are baked and finished on the grill
(4)Matt N.
went here after a trial run and was thoroughly impressed. nice feel on the inside with a enough flat screens to watch the game. had a nice selection of craft beers and the food was very good. we had the blackened mahi fish tacos and wings (really hot sauce btw). someone got rockfish bites and they looked great too. cant wait to go back
(5)Ernie M.
Great food! The best potato salad I've had! The BBQ chicken wrap was fantastic! Great atmosphere!

Love this place. Awesome spot, good food and great staff. We go quite a bit in the winter and warm up by the cozy fireplaces and catch a game on the tvs, but in nice weather the outside seating backs to Gunpowder State Park and they have a horseshoe pitch. Thursday night is burger night, which are always good and last night I had the grilled romaine salad topped with grilled chicken which was great. (Dressing was a little salty, so I had it on the side and just drizzled a tiny bit - but salad was so flavorful it really didn't need much anyway.) Just about everything I've tried has been good to great (keep in mind it's a bar and grille, people). We bring our kids ages 8 and 6 and they get to have a Stewarts Root Beer in the bottle as a special treat, while the grown-ups get a few beers. They love going there, even as picky as they are. **They just added a loyalty program, via a keypad by the hostess stand where you can enter your cell number. Just three visits gets you some freebies. Well worth it if you go regularly like we do.

What a great place for my 100th review! Our new local favorite. Where do I start? Lobster and half priced wine night is Wednesday. Nice size lobster and 2 sides for $13.99! So many sides to choose, but we like the veggie skewers, corn and mashed potatoes. They have a whole separate specials menu, for every category...I rarely order from the usual menu. Apps: Jerk chicken is the best! Ask for honey mustard too, some of the best stuff ever. We really like the fried green tomatoes when available too. Nothing is fried here, all baked or stove top. The wings are really good, even with that bit of knowledge. Awesome ambiance, great taste in sports too, usually soccer and hockey on the TV when in season. Never been out back to hang but they have a huge area with tables, horse shoe pits, seats and a kids play area!

Great little bar & restaurant that is right on Gunpowder Falls on Rt 1. Apparently they have since gotten a fryer and their hand cut fries are fantastic. Nice change of pace from your standard chain fare and you can tell that everything is made from scratch. For those who have kids, I am sure you are used to the normal offering of frozen dinosaur shaped nuggets or kraft mac and cheese out of the box. Not here. GPL makes fresh hand breaded chicken even for the kid's menu. I like the fact that they even take the time and effort to make the kid's food fresh. We had the Margherita Pizza and the chicken cheesesteak which were good. On a previous visit we had the nacho's and fried green tomatoes with crab which were excellent. We look forward to coming back in the summer after a hike to take advantage of the playground and horseshoe pits out back by the river!

Passed this place for years. Wife and I wanted a burger and decided to try it out as Thursday was their burger special night. Everyone raves about the food here. Did not see the hype. The burger was ok at best, if you like a lot of grease and fat. The only thing special was what they are topped with. Then the sides, I got chips with it. I expect a restaurant to have home made chips not chips out of a bag. Bagged chips makes this two steps above a biker dive bar. In the end the food was palatable, but if I can make it at home, why do I want to buy it from someone else. I want you to wow me... The bar area was nice and if I was with the guys I wouldn't mind having a couple of drinks here. Probably would stick to beer or something simple like a rum and coke. Not sure if they could handle making a decent Martini or something a little more high caliber.

OMG!! this place is amazing! I've never had a bad experience. The food is always hot, on time and delicious. The price is right for this place. The only down fall is you can't bring your pets outside which sucks since we like to go after hiking. But other then that I would recommend this place to everybody.
(5)Karen K.
Very friendly service with good food. We went here randomly after we hadn't been in years. Their food has greatly improved and the service has too. Everyone was friendly and the atmosphere was nice. One big down side is it got really. Old when the door opened
(4)Ann B.
Great food. Greet bartender, Betty Ann. Chill locals. I will come back again and again! Had the cheesesteak pizza ($5 pizza night), Mac and cheese, and fried green tomatoes. No fryers in the place so everything is grilled and baked. YUM. going to get the wings next time.
(4)Kristina Z.
We love this place. Great spot to have drinks with friends or dinner with the family. The food is always consistently good and the staff is great. They have a playground outback for kids as well as outdoor seating. Great beer and cocktail selections as well!
(5)Cee L.
Very simple menu!!! Their "Fried Green Tomatoes" (Maryland style) are to die for with a lump of crab meat on top. Overall the place was very nice, staff was courteous, and the service was prompt. I'd go again!!!
(3)Melanie D.
SUPER excellent! Got the crab dip and prime rib French dip....delectable! The prime rib melted in my mouth. Perfect atmosphere and incredibly friendly service. We' ll definitely be going back!
(5)Shane M.
Nothing fancy to look at but the food is great! These folks know how to bake and grill wings perfectly!
(5)Jessie H.
Always a favorite that we forget about! LOVE the wings, and love them even more that they are grilled, not fried. Kinda nice, the whole place doesn't offer anything fried. Cheesesteak was yummy, as well. Always have a good selection of beer on tap. Very friendly waitresses and overall welcoming feel to the place.

After years and years of passing by this place, I finally tried this! Apparently, in the past, this was a place for hoggers to relax and have a beer. Since then, the ownership changed and now it's more of a family restaurant and bar. The servers and even the people eating there were all so nice and sociable. It was great! The food (and crab dip) was excellent! My friend was unaware of how to properly eat a lobster, so the bar tender showed him how and he was really nice about it. It was funny, great atmosphere and ambiance! Can't wait to eat there again
(4)Mary J.
Thumbs down, folks. Went there again, all excited after our previous visit. For some reason place looked totally drab, not that many people. Had crab nachos, next time I'll bring a magnifying glass so I can go "crabbing". Tiny pieces of the crab meat that tasted like it came from the Indonesian can, money well-wasted. Ordered scotch, were delivered a cheap bourbon... Had their "specials", soft-shell crab sandwich. Huge bun, over breaded tiny crab, it was pretty tasteless, soggy. Really, did not enjoy it this time, menu was pretty boring as well.

How soon can I come back? Not soon enough. I was down in the area for the Jets / Ravens game Sunday and went here Saturday night, as my girlfriend is a local to the area, and she suggested it. They have a super beer on draft menu, and an even better food menu, most featuring crab. I started with the White IPA they had on draft, and it was fruity and delicious. I then had a cup of their cream of crab soup, and that had fresh crab on top, and it was a perfect blend of cream and crab. For my entrée, I had the crab Rueben special, with a side of slaw, and once again, they killed it. The entire atmosphere here is rustic and welcoming. Next time in town, we will be back.
(5)Erin M.
Perfect package: Great food, great service, great atmosphere! By far the best burger I have ever had! Every time we go, the food is awesome! I would highly recommend the Caesar salad, BBQ Bacon burger, coconut cake, BBQ chicken wrap.... This is definelty one of my favorite places to go! It's a must try!!
(5)Alexa L.
I don't understand what everyone sees in this place. We were not impresssed. Service was pretty bad and food was mediocre. They don't have a fryer so there are no fries on the menu. You can either have potato salad or ruffles potato chips. Won't be going back.
(2)Don M.
Went on Father's Day for the brunch. Service was bad and food was average bar food at best. First time and last time here. No idea how this place rates such high reviews. Maybe if I drank more alcohol?!?!

I have always lived around this area and have just drove by this place. A friend had told me to try it here because it was very kid friendly. They have a large area out back with a playground for the children. This was a huge plus since the kiddos I did end up going with had lots of energy to burn off while we waited for the food to come out. I ordered the crab dip for the appetizer and the fish tacos for my main meal. Others that dined with me had the jerk chicken salad, mac and cheese, and the pot roast sandwich. Everyone was very happy with their meals including the children. It was delicious. The food made up for the slow service there. We must have waited forever to just get our appetizer to come out and the main dishes. The kids and adults were getting too hungry and the food was taking forever to come out. Luckily, when the food did come out, we were pleased with our dishes. Prices are reasonable and I love their soda beverages in the mini pitchers. It was a good thing we had those pitchers because I'm sure it would have been terrible to wait that long for refills with the slow service there. Overall, the food was good. The environment was relaxing and the people working there were friendly. Only bad experience was the slow service and that our food took forever to come out. The waitress was nice and attentive but our food just came out way too late. Just don't go extremely hungry because you'll be waiting for a bit to get your food.

Was hoping for a nice enjoyable brunch. Very disappointed. The food was served buffet style. The problem was that they didn't have adequate equipment to keep the food hot. So the eggs, ham, and potatoes were cold. It would of been nice if they also turned the heat up. It's 30 degrees outside, don't need it in the restaurant. Was hoping for better service.
