I live in Kensington and use to be a regular. I think the business was sold recently. Bad service, rude & slow. Expensive for what you get. Min $10 charge. Don't go anymore unless I'm desperate on a Sunday afternoon and everything else is closed.

  • Tara L.

I went to high school just down the street from here and somehow managed to never step my foot in. Even more miraculously, I've still managed to not eat here but now that I'm of age I've become very aware that they sell beer. Sure the pizzas, kabobs, gyros and subs smell pretty good, but it all honesty I came here for beer. If you live in Kensington, you're well aware of the fact that on Sunday, the more illustrious liquor and beer store in the neighboring shopping center is closed, leaving you with limited options within a 3 mile radius. This is your best solution. The restaurant/deli is small, a bit congested and really hot during the summer, so your best bet is to probably place an order in advance and drop by for a quick pick up. But yea...beer.

Heard about this hidden gem from "Jeff" at Union Jack's in Bethesda. I will be short and to the point. This place delivers well-above-average pizza, and beer & wine. So yes, for a fooball junkie like myself, this was quite a find, especially on a rainy day.

Friday night 10/24/14 I ordered a delivery of lamb and beef kabob and asked for no carbs (rice and pita bread) from Luis. I get the order and there is no vegetables. I called back. Spoke with Luis and explained the missing items. He was absolutely rude and hung up. I called back and spoke to Nat who apologized for Luis's behaviors but stated he could not do anything as he was not the manager who would be in Saturday at 4 pm. I called at 4:30 pm and spoke with the "Owner Omid." After apologizing for Luis's behavior I asked what would be done to remedy the misorder. I have ordered from there before. A Kabob in inself has its own definition and ingredients and when I say omit carbs rice/pita and didn't want the salad I couldn't have been more clear. He said as an analogy and comparison "i want a car. i want a girl." I said really, that is how you resolve a consumer complaint. A good manager, especially the owner, should have said we will make you a new order of kabob (including the vegetables) for free to retain your ongoing service. Poor management and ownership is certainly indicative of the quality of employees you hire. That is evident that his employee had no problems hanging up on a customer with a valid complaint. Never again will I purchase food there. They have no customer service skills and will not do anything to resolve an issue even if it is a easy fix. TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE FROM OWNER TO EMPLOYEES.

Great pizza and kabobs in Kensington. They even deliver!

Well the prices are very HIGH compare to the portion of the food they serve, my kabob was warm and delicious but did not make me full and i was still hungry! The girl on the register was more on her phone playing/texting rather than have eye contact or smiling to customers! The music was very loud and in spanish! I felt I'm at Mexican cuisine, I love hispanic music but here is mediterranean restaurant should play arabic or persian something! Well overall this place was okay! I am not too crazy to visit it again!

We tend to do pizza or Chinese when we do carry-out and sometimes just want something different. Their kabobs are a nice change. We almost always get a chicken kabob and a chicken shish kabob (includes vegetable). They always package the carry-out nicely with rice and pita plus a plate of condiments, which includes a sauce, lemon slice, feta, butter and parsley. Husband was in the area last night and picked up dinner--I was surprised at how quickly he was in and out of the restaurant. The kabobs were around $23 and we got two dinners with enough left over for two lunches so it's not that expensive. The ambiance of the place is pretty drab so we always do carry-out.

Dry and sad gyro. I don't think I'll be stopping by here again.

There website prices are not up dated. We had 2 small pizzas, salad, 2 soda and chicken nuggets delivered and was charged $49. We felt that we were over charged so we check their website and it was $32. I drove over there to get some of our money back. The cashier said that the website has not been updated and he added and it came to $36. The cashier told the owner that we were over charged. Then the owner added and it came up to $49. Ok! I was disbelief in how could it be that way. I just left cause I did not want to argue with this huge difference on how much things are there. This place is a carry out. Whole in the wall..... We will not order here again, even though they deliver.

I thought the joining of my two favorite foods, pizza and kabob, in one restaurant would be amazing. I couldn't have been more wrong. The koobideh kabob was AWFUL! The chicken kabob and pizza were passable. The most memorable thing about visiting this restaurant was the fact that I got to eat in what felt like a liquor store. I should have known this place would be whack when I learned they didn't offer free refills on soda. No, I take that back. I should have known this place was whack when I saw that they misspelled "Kensington" on their own website. In conclusion, Kensington pizza and kabob failed to capitalize on a neglected yet potentially lucrative (maybe?) market segment.

It gives me great pleasure to give this dirt hole one star. The owner decided to stoop as low as to scam potential customers in order to get a few bucks. Pretty pathetic really. So this guy joined with DealChicken to sell gift certificates (gc) to promote his establishment. So here's the scam. He gets the money from DealChicken when customers purchase the gc and when they comes in to use the gc, he gets upset and tells them that he decided not to honor the deal so therefore he will charge you full price for your meal. So he gets free money from DealChicken and the customers. Of course I was not going to let a low life like that take advantage of me so I just left. It's the principle people!!! BEWARE customers and potential customers!! This restaurant is shady and cannot be trusted. Would you trust someone like this to cook your food? I'm reporting them to the Better Business Bureau. Unbelievable!!!

The wife and I were in the neighborhood looking for a quick bite to eat and this place did the trick. We got a turkey and Italian sub and shared a large order or fries. First, the subs were pretty good. The Italian reminded me of the late-night version you can get at my favorite post-bar eatery in Athens. So, +1 for nostalgia. The bread tasted pretty fresh and they really piled on the meat (for $9, I wouldn't have expected less). One thing I noticed was the size difference between the "small" and the "large" was around half an inch (at least, it appeared to be such a small, incremental difference). So, word to the wise, go for the small. The fries were nice and hot and doused in Old Bay. For Chesapeake Bay spice proselytizers, put a check mark in your win column.

  • Matthew B.

Pizza here is pretty bad. If you order an extra large you get a sheet pizza, which sucks. They have interesting toppings but the base pizza is too weak. Lipstick on a pig. Kabobs are a little better but this place is an easy pass. Too bad since I live right near it. Given them a few chances over the years but will not be coming back unless I get really desperate.

Holy cheap beer batman! This place offers $2 domestic beer including miller lite (word!) and $3 international (not a huge selection)- but was very pleased to discover this. The food is average, maybe slightly below - ordered the Chicken Souvlaky which was limited on taste and appearance. I guess I shouldn't have expected much. The pricing is not bad and they had a special going (chicken Souvlaky + fries + drink). I have to say the fries were not bad - cooked pretty well and nice to have when you are drinking a cold beer. I will likely not come back for food. It's worth coming for beer if you are looking for something simple and want to just hang in a chill deli-like atmosphere. No complaints or extra compliments on the service....good enough at least for the eat in experience.

Fantastic delivery pizza! Dough was delicious and the sauce was great. We ordered the white (w/ roasted garlic), the meaty (again with roasted garlic), some wings to test, and a greek salad w/ house dressing. Everything except the wings tasted great! The house dressing is acidic, but not overpowering (I suggest getting extra). The pizza toppings were well balanced, but the added garlic might've been a bit clumped and burnt. It still tasted good and you can tell it was crushed at the shop. The wings were the only let down. Ours were a bit undercooked and therefore a little soggy. Defintiely going to order from here more often!

Can you give a negative star? Because this is the first place that's made me think yelp needs that option. My husband and I stopped in to grab a case of beer at the connected wine and beer store, underwhelmed by lack of selection, we decided to try somewhere else. The manager then walked out and inspected our car, presumably to make sure we didn't steal anything. After awkwardly staring into our vehicle for a few minutes I asked if I could help him. He said "just checking" and walked back into the store. No apology. Just rude glares. Talk about a lack of customer service and basic common decency.

I've been ordering from this place for years and I've noticed that the food has declined with every purchase. The kabobs used to be tasty and succulent and now they are often dry and not very well seasoned. Tonight, I ordered a gyro and waited almost an hour for it to be delivered. The delivery guy just handed me my food rudely which I suspect is a result of me tipping him before he showed up. The gyro was disgusting. Absolutely the WORST gyro I have had in my entire life. I will never order from this place again. -signed, a disgusted Kensington resident.

Delivery takes forever, their pita sandwiches suck, but their kabobs are pretty legit. I usually get the chicken over salad but the fish and other entrees are plenty delicious as well (albeit a bit pricier). Eating high protein low carb on the run is a bit tricky because most fast food is high carb and fat (and low protein) but a chicken kebab salad sets you back a doable 11 dollars and some change. Despite being in Kensington, you still get a few weirdos hanging around this joint which gives Kensington much needed character. Power scooter guy hitting up the beer while you pay 15 dollars for a fish kabob? Why not.

After my previous review in 2013, we took a break from Kensington Pizza due to both food and service issues. They had just tanked. The manager did write back after that review (though I didn't see it for a very long time) and acknowledged that things had gone downhill which I do totally appreciate. Forthcoming honesty goes a long way. We've come back and now frequently order form Kensingon Pizza again (at least once every two weeks if not more). They have not mastered BBQ Wings yet which is unfortunate, but the pizza is generally very good. The phone service has improved tremendously which is very nice. This is by far the best pizza delivery place in the area. You should try it.

Parking is somewhat limited and you'll see why once you get there. The place is tiny and very limited seating. The chicken kabob and rice were dry, the spagetti looked like it came out of the can but hey, the fiance seems to love it! I'll come back here for the beer and wine .... avoid the food.

First the pros: Good pizza Deliver wine(!) Fast Nice staff Generous portions on pasta dishes Takes credit cards The cons: Eggplant parm is 2 pieces of eggplant over a mess of spaghetti (I ordered the EP to get a lower carb meal! - oops) Both EP and Spaghetti and Meatballs don't have nearly enough sauce - dry noodles - ew. kebabs are just ok Basic house salad are a bit better than most pizza places - but still skimpy on the toppings

These are the nicest people EVER...and they also make a mean shish kabob. I walked in tonight in the hopes of getting something to eat, since I hadn't eaten all day and generally had a terrible day. They were actually in the process of closing the kitchen and cleaning up (the fact this place actually CLEANS is also a plus), but since I basically looked like I was going to bust out into tears (which quite honestly, was likely going to happen in the privacy of my vehicle a few seconds later) they were nice enough to make me dinner. I asked for whatever was quick and easy since I didn't want to delay them from cleaning up longer than necessary, but the young guy behind the counter was so kind, he told me I could order whatever I wanted. I asked for shish kabob and it was delicious. The yogurt sauce was probably one of the best I'd ever had - very flavorful and a bit of heat (without being spicy) that really set it apart. I ate that in my car, as opposed to crying :) I don't live in that area and happened to be at the crappy, useless CVS next to it in search of a medication that was sold out at my neighboring pharmacies. However, the guy actually tried to help me find pharmacies in the area while I waited for my food! Like I said, I don't live there, but I would go back for the food and pleasant people.

I have returned multiple times since my last review, and I must say the best thing to order here is the gyro sandwich. I have tried both the lamb and the kubideh kabobs, and while I thought the kubideh was pretty good. It was a bit on the bland side, and needed to be marinated or mixed together a little more. The lamb was dry and soooooo bland. Very flavorless, tasted like nothing but meat. A little too meaty for me, I like my meat seasoned. The rice is good. The bread is good. My partner sticks to the simple things like mozzarella sticks and cheeseburger sub. I still have not tried the pizza, but if I come back - I'd just stick to the gyro!

I've been going to this place for years. They serve some of the best kabob around and their prices are reasonable. The chicken is always juicy and tender and the rice and condiments tasty. Only thing is I wish they made their own bread. KPKH also has some Greek menu items which I have tried and have been generally pleased with as well as Italian, lasagna which is very good, albeit a bit heavy on the salt. They also have subs and pizza, the latter of which I have tried with varying degrees of satisfaction. What they truly deliver with consistency is their Persian cuisine. The place is rather small but they do have adequate seating for all but their busiest times and on nice days you can even eat outside under covered seating. They have recently updated their decor and it looks much nicer than previous years resulting in a less crowded appearance. Parking can be hard to find up front, but a short drive around will reveal plenty of parking in the rear lot. They also have a great selection of wine and beer.

We (a family of 3) regularly order two dishes of chicken kebabs plus a side salad. It is quite enough food to feed the three of us. We have tried other items but have been a bit disappointed in the pizza and a couple of the other kebab dishes - we find that we like the chicken kebabs best. We have found the food quality to be pretty uniform so are never disappointed. An important factor for us is that the food is low in fat and among the most healthful we can order for takeout. The chicken is always freshly cooked AFTER we order, so we know we have to wait about 15 minutes for it to be ready. We continue to be pleased and have just placed an order which my husband will be picking up shortly.

I used to come here with my first boyfriend aka my high school sweet heart. Looking back, being 23 now, this place was the food staple of our relationship. It's been 8 years and the same guy still works at the counter. I wonder if he remembers me. He's not changed a bit. The lasagna is especially delicious. It's cheesy and packed with meat and sauce. The portions are also very generous. Their pizza is also really good. It's not thin crust. It's the usual medium crust, but they are not stingy on sauce/cheese. Therefore, it is not dry at all. OH YUM. I might revisit childhood sometime and come for a lasagna with a side of a large pizza. =)

    (4)
  • John W.

They get a charitable three stars because they deliver beer -- if not for that saving grace, they'd be lucky to rate two. After multiple visits I am confident in saying that the menu is uniformly mediocre, and worse, their beer cases are hardly below room temperature. For those in desperate need only.

I don't know where all these good reviews are coming from. I think ppl are just so used to crappy food. I ordered a steak and cheese sub, buffalo wings, a sausage and pep pizza, mozz sticks and a 2 liter of soda. Everything was bad. The steak and cheese sub was soo bland. I could feel the texture of bread and steak in my mouth, but absolutely no taste, it was the weirdest thing. The pizza was just blah, nothing special. The wings were not good either, very greasy and not much taste/flavor. The mozz sticks were obviously the frozen kind you just heat up but they were room temp and the cheese was gross. And when I said everything was bad I meant Everything. The soda was flat right out of the unopened bottle!! How does that even happen?! I've never experienced that before. This place sucks! My order came to just over $40 and what a waste of 40 bucks. There are much better places in Kensington to go to eat. Manny's Pizza and Sub Shop for one (not Manny and Olga's--they suck too). And Continental Pizza--they have some of the best pizza around!! The only reason I ordered from Kabob's is they deliver and I didn't feel like going out to pick up. What a mistake, next time I won't be so lazy. Oh, and none of the food looks remotely like the pictures on the website, so don't be taken in by delicious "looking" photos like I was. If you're gonna plunk down some money, do it somewhere else. This place has horrible food.

Dry and sad gyro. I don't think I'll be stopping by here again.

I'm really surprised that I am the first person to review this place. The food here is great! They have two of my favorite foods: Pizza and Kabobs! Seems like an odd mix to have but that just makes me like this place even more. The pizza is awesome. It's also square which I thought was interesting. The only other place I've seen a square pizza is Ledo's. The sauce is sweet and rich, the toppings are fresh and add a ton of flavor, the cheese is, um cheesy? And the crust is crunchy on the outside but warm and chewy inside. I'm telling you, it's the perfect pizza. Now onto the awesome Mediterranean food they have. I love the Kubideh and Barg combo. The meat is always seasoned and cooked just right and the rice is a perfect addition. I think out of all their specialties, that one is probably my favorite. I love the food here. The portions and the prices are good. Now that I think about it, I might have them for lunch. Mmmm...

The guy who answers the phone is so hard to communicate with. It's like he only wants to take the order as quickly as possible and hang up. God forbid if I have a question or special delivery request (like please put a fork in the bag). His tone screams "GTFO the phone so I can go about the rest of my business." The food is decent, the prices are too high, and frankly I've had enough of this guy's attitude and I'm ready to start ordering from somewhere else. I might even find out what shifts the lady works and only order from them when she's manning the phones. I hate this guy's phone attitude that much.

The food is decent but over priced. The Subs are small and you only get a few small pieces of Lamb meat with the lamb kabobs. Also, they have a tendency to screw up delivery orders and forget items. The last time this happened to me, they would not send the driver back out with the rest of my order. I'm not going to be ordering from them again. I was extremely disappointed with their customer service and how rude the person was on the phone when I asked how they would fix the issue.

Love this place for a quick bite or carryout! Great beer selection, I've never had the pizza because the kabobs temp me away. The kabobs are nicely seasoned, never dry, and the rice and veggies are good alongside them. Best of all, I've always found the service extremely friendly, particularly toward my kids.

Stick to the pizza, the rest of the food is overpriced and not all that great. Meatball subs are all filler and the chicken parm was like cardboard parm. Tried a turkey sandwich another time, its that baloney turkey gelatin stuff. And the greek salad was 10 bucks and all iceberg lettuce. But the pizza...The pizza is great. Comes in a big ol' square and is really tasty. Plus you can get beer to go. So it gets three stars, even though the rest of the menu is a one star.
