Took a chance on this one after an Antietam Battlefield visit. Well worth the stop. Great crab cakes. Staff friendly.

My biggest complaint about Bonnie's is lack of cleanliness. I didn't see the kitchen, but the bathroom was gross, the floors and baseboards in the dining area were dirty, and there were globs of dust on the ceiling near vents and fans. Also, they appeared to be violating rules about refilling condiment containers. My other complaint is the quality of the food. The potatoes were instant potato flakes! I don't think I've had instant potatoes since the cafeteria line in elementary school. We even got real potatoes in the military! Geez. The stewed tomatoes were syrupy sweet and mostly indistinguishable from ketchup. The fried chicken was nothing special. Before we left, we tried the red velvet cake, which they are apparently "known for." The cake itself was below average - my local grocery store bakes better - and the icing was gelatinous with a whipped nothing taste rather than the rich cream cheese flavor I was hoping for.

We've been going to the Red Byrd since our girls were tiny...and they're 23 & 27 now. The Red Byrd is just a plain good local restaurant, located between Boonsboro & Antietam Battlefield, with that small town diner feel. (A lot of the same people eat here every day!!) They serve everything from a hearty stick to your ribs breakfast, to sandwiches & an AYCE special almost every night of the week. Their spaghetti & their fried chicken are super YUM!! If you enjoy hearty country good to ya food...make sure you stop here!! They also serve some dang good desserts!!

we were 2min after 11 and they refused to serve us breakfast after driving an 1 1/2 hr from Baltimore, you just lost 4 customers last Sunday Sept.13.

They do not and will not make breakfast in the afternoon. As an alternative I ordered a rather plain club sammich. Not sure i would give em a second chance.

Service was unfriendly. Wrong order came out for my husband and waitress couldn't be bothered to care and didn't even offer to correct it. Probably because she served him a $23 meal when he ordered something that was around $10. Waitress never offered dessert at the end of our meal and then had the nerve to argue with my brother-in-law about it when he brought it to her attention! Food wasn't anything special. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here.

First time at the Bird. Really great, attentive service. I had the Red Bird burger. Very tasty and the prefect Sunday brunch. Definitely going back again!

Classic country diner - right down to the waitress who has worked there since"waitress" was the p.c. term (& who calls out hello by name to nearly everyone who enters). The fried chicken platter is just like grandma made. No alcohol. Lots of adorable seniors and families. The placement advertisements are helpful for finding plumbers and crane service. So quaint and The Comfort Food place to go!

I stop here when headed out to Antietam. The staff is always really friendly. The menu is standard greasy spoon, but they do it right. Had a burger and it was really flavorful - crispy edges on the patty and a pile of fresh fixings. Crabcakes are good too - good amount of crab.

First time eating here and it won't be my last. The fried pickles were yummy and the club sandwich was huge. The waitress was very friendly and attentive. Go early as it filled up fast. Great small diner.

Perfect spot for a family breakfast. The service is great and the food is inexpensive.

Amazing. Crabcakes were great, service was great (we were part of a large group so the waitress seemed a bit rushed but she was not rude and it was a lot of people so its understandable that she wasn't super friendly). Loved it....unsure of whenever I would ever be back in this area but if I was within a 20 mile radius, I would stop by,

A perfect stop on a Sunday afternoon! We visited Bonnie's at the Red Byrd around 3:00 p.m. The restaurant was busy, but not noisy. We ordered the fried chicken dinner and the catfish dinner. The fried chicken was just like Grandma used to make and my date loved the catfish. I was told that it was fried to perfection. I ordered mashed potatoes and a side salad and both were fresh and delicious. For dessert we shared a slice of chocolate cake with peanut butter frosting which I was told was homemade. The cake was yummy too! This is a perfect little gem of a restaurant. We definitely will return!

Some of the food is OK, mainly breakfast and their burgers. Their fries are crinkle fries right out of a frozen plastic bag.

Good comfort food for a good price. If you are in sharpsburg go the couple of miles to keedysville. We have been here for breakfast and dinner and both were great.

Excellent crab cakes!!!! Very nice country decor and service. The french fries were from frozen and the cole slaw was not their own, but it all pales because the crab cakes were sooooo very good!

Lived nearby for awhile, this place serves good quality country style American food.

Classic American Country Diner menu and experience. Very affordable, with your standard selections of sandwiches and platters - mostly comfort food. Daily specials are posted. Very family friendly, hometown atmosphere. I have never made it in for breakfast - they do not serve breakfast items late on the weekends either. I always end up ordering something different when I am there. Last time I was there I had the Pork BBQ, which was good!

Best breakfast around by far, never had lunch or dinner here but if you're looking for a great breakfast then this is the place.

Food was good but they definitely cater to locals over out of town patrons. We had a party of 6 (4 adults 2 kids) they had several large tables and sat several "locals" while we waited for one table. They sat two locals at a table for 6 ahead of us. We waited or 15 minutes to get a table while several locals were sat as they walked in.
