Needed a tres leches for a party my mother was hosting. I intervened when I heard they were going to purchase one from the gringo bakery. Now, I know it's highly likely that the people in back are latinos making the cake, but still. What's the point of living in such a diverse area, if you don't take advantage of the distinct authentic offerings of these groups from the places they themselves frequent. Enter La Flor de Puebla. I had heard about this place and also knew that Riverdale is known for being little Mexico (yes, Mexico - not El Salvador. That is not an ignorant mistake). Now who lays the most claim to tres leches, boys and girls??? Viva México! Read some reviews on Yelp and called in the order in my beautiful, fluent Spanish :) This was serious business, there were a stream of questions - for a male or female? child or adult? Filled or not filled? Round or squared? Fruit choices for fillings. "Poca leche or mucha leche" (a little milk or a lot). That question stumped me as I don't eat tres leches, but I shot back with a lot, quickly calling three friends after I hung up to get a consensus. Everyone said they preferred a wetter tres leches so I felt good about my split second decision. Picked it up on Saturday initially going to the wrong location. There are 2 sister locations within 5 min of each other (that should tell you something) so make sure you know which one you need to pick up from. Both numbers start with 301-699 so that won't help. At the wrong location (bigger spot), I had never seen so many cake orders stacked up... lots and LOTS of probably mostly tres leches. I felt confident in my decision when I saw that. Got to the proper locale, was shown a cake decorated with cut fruit - strawberries, kiwis and 3 others. It was not unattractive by any means, but w/o that euro-pastry decorative flair. Brought it home and my mom took a look and slightly turned up her nose. 2 hours later when it was cut, she said it was delicious as did all the other guests. And don't hesitate to order "mucha leche", it's not dripping or anything. I couldn't try it as I'm trying to stay away from dairy, but going on the responses of my mom's guests, as well as the traffic surrounding these bakeries, they are obviously doing something right.

Bought some "pan de muerto" for Day of the Dead and some Abuelita hot chocolate. This is the only place around DC I could find that had Day of the Dead bread! For that alone, 5 stars.

First time here, fortunately I was with my fiancé & his family because I don't really speak Spanish. There is soo much to choose from. Cakes, slices of cakes, parfaits (I got one, haven't eaten yet) donuts, pastries, drinks. I'm not a fan of the tres leches cake but apparently they are good here. My pastry had that Bavarian type cream in the center & was really rich & yummy. A lot of the cakes had strawberries.

They don't close until 9pm!! Whooohooo!! A coworker of mine brought a cake for a company event from this bakery Tres Leches!! Love it! So, I decided to pick up a slice of cake that was ready to go. Next time I will have to order a cake and see how it goes. The two ladies that work there seemed like they were ready to go home lol. Tasty cake .. great store hours!

Yum. I came across this place while driving and decided to stop in. It was right before closing time. I had the tiramisu for $2.50. Is was delicious and it's a large portion. Well made, very moist but not at all soggy.

I can't really write much about this place because I don't speak Spanish. But I can say the deserts were very good. It is a very small place with a somewhat intimidating parking lot. It is very tight and a lot of cars. There were a few guys hanging out begging for money but they weren't bothersome...it's just weird being asked for spare change when going into a bakery. It is a very Hispanic area and that made it all the better. There are some great restaurants around there and my friends always go here for desert....carry out only. You serve yourself with the tongs hanging on the counter. I was curious about the cleanliness of those tongs...but we didn't get sick.

I just ordered another tres leches cake from here for my hubby's birthday. That's what we did last year and everyone loved it. Whoever picks up the phone will be a little nervous about not speaking full English but oh so nice and patient to take your order. And the cake - fresh cream and fruits and moist, light cake. YUMMO. And for a cake for 15-18 people at $45, very affordable. Can't wait til the party!
