Diabetics at Village Inn

Village Inn is a tough place for diabetics, and you must be extra cautious while ordering food at the Village Inn, especially if you're a diabetic. The food items low in sodium are high in sugar or cholesterol at Village Inn which makes it difficult for diabetics to choose the right food at the diner.

Foods to Avoid at Village Inn for Diabetics

Village Inn offers very few items edible for diabetics without any threat. You can avoid sandwiches and burgers at Village Inn and try the light breakfast items on the menu. You must also skip the shakes as well as other juices from the beverage menu. Almost all the dinner items on the menu are high in sodium except Grilled Tilapia and 6 oz. Top Sirloin & Toast. Avoid Soup bowls and opt for cups instead at Village Inn.

Our favorite pizza place in town (and we have tried them all)! They have great subs and the calzone is my absolute favorite! Even my super picky MIL loves it too!

Great place to eat! Love the grilled chicken on focaccia bread sandwich. Their pizza is also delicious. Big portions for a very reasonable price. And the services was great!! Been here at least 5 times and each time it has been a great experience.

Always great food and good prices. Their specials are always great too.

Always a great place to go. Whenever we have family visit we always bring them here, exclaiming that they have the best pizza around. And that statement has never fallen short. While the pizza is phenomenal, the dishes are even better. Some of my favorites are the Chicken Oscar (always a go to), the Chicken Chesapeake (the best around), and the seafood bruschetta. That is like nothing you've ever tasted. Jumbo lump crab meat with the bruschetta and an amazing sauce! We have been coming here for YEARS now, and we will never stop!

J&P's was a great little pizza place to grab a bite to eat while visiting a friend in Manchester. The dining room was a pretty good size and almost all of the tables were full if that tells you anything about the delicious food. I opted for a simple piece of cheese pizza which was the size of two pieces and was really good! The slice wasn't too greasy and the cheese/sauce ratio was perfect! The service was quick and easy and they gave us Andes mints with the check. That solidified my appreciate for them! I'll be back!

Living in Hampstead with young kids, most of the time carry-out is the name of the game. 9 times out of 10, when we do so, J&P's always tops the list. While there are what seems like dozens of pizza or Italian places to eat in town, J&P's is far and away the best. Their pizza is amazing, from the fresh dough (which is also used I believe in their homemade rolls), and excellent use of cheese and sauce...not to mention the excellent grilled buffalo chicken pizza. Speaking of buffalo, this place far and away, the wings are better than Bateman's, BWW, or anywhere. I always tell people its a hidden gem as it may not necessarily be the first thought of what to order when you order. Trust me, their wings are amazing. Not too hot, not too mild, and yes they also do Old Bay wings. Also highly recommend the greek salad with grilled chicken which I might add you can sub in when getting the 18 inch pizza special, hint hint. Feel free to hike it downtown to Little Italy for pasta, but J&P's pasta rivals theirs easily. Fresh pasta, great sauces - not to mention really great subs...heck, everything I've ever tried is just fantastic. Plus the ladies including Jackie at the carry out desk are nicer than nice and do just about anything to take care of you while there including the free rolls :)

We are here during the work week. They have daily lunch specials angling from $7.95 to 10.95. I had the Lasagna which was one of the specials that day. Very generous portion of lasagna $7.95. The dish was very cheesy which I liked. It was served with a basket of bread/garlic toast. Bread was good and fresh. Garlic toast was so so. My friend had the meatball sub which was also a nice size for the price $7.95. He said it was delicious. If I ever find myself in Hamstead, Md again I will defiantly eat here again.

I have eaten here less than 10 times in 20 years. When I do go back (hence this review), usually for some affair in the party room, I remember why I choose other places in town for Italian food, pizza, and subs/hoagies. For my taste, the food is bland. Specifically, the tomato sauce is overly sweet and almost "spice-less" which makes the dishes which use it underwhelming. There is just a sweet tomato flavor in the sauce. If you like only that taste in your Italian foods, by all means this is your spot. The pizza crust is thinner than I like and it uses the same tomato sauce. Cheese is thin compared to other places; although, the toppings are more generous. Their subs are made with small "white bready", blasé rolls. The items on the roll are placed to look hefty but, one sub is barely a lunch if eaten without any other sides. Finally, watch you check for whether a tip is included!! Get the detail receipt for your order/meal; NEVER pay from a total-only receipt. If you are there with a group, an 18% tip seems to be always included and you are not told by your server. It's probably on the menu somewhere. Still, if you are paying individually for your group meal and/or drinks only, you should demand a detail receipt that shows what you are paying for and the already-included tip. This is a locally-owned place and it has grown steadily over the last 20+ years. The owners have done very well and they do support the community. It is obviously very popular and successful and the parking lot is always crowded. Finally, my issues with the 36+% tip on my group checks were addressed with a refund when I figured out the charges and went back after I saw how the transaction was handled.

My husband and I usually order take-out from J&P. the food is delicious and the portions are huge for the price. I took off a star because the girls at the counter are consistently rude. Please, J&P, hire some friendly staff to match your awesome food!

Have been going here since this restaurant was one of three businesses in a strip mall. Only one table so the place was really a carry-out. Eventually, the place morphed into a bar and restaurant, took over and enlarged that mall. Now, a second shopping center is going up under the family name. But, the food and servers have always been good. Tonight, we ordered a pizza to-go, with half of the toppings on one side and half on the other. When we get home, the three toppings are on three slices! When I called, they offered to make another but we wanted to eat at home and quickly. I asked that the send a coupon and was told they don't mail coupons (though I get J&P coupons in mailers every week.) They did take our name, saying a free pizza would be available next time. Really disappointed to be treated badly by a restaurant with a good history. U will return and review them again.

We sat outside on a Friday evening with our 3 young children. The portions were large for the cost, the food was EXCELLENT, and the server was prompt, happy, and attentive. The kids liked the crayons, gumball machine, and the roving harmonica player. Nice atmosphere and a good find for what is essentially a strip mall. Very happy with our experience.

My wife and I love J&P Pizza as it is consistently good every time we visit. When we are with family we will dine in on the main side but when we dont have kiddos we will hit the bar where the staff is super friendly and the food is outstanding. They have a great selection of craft beers and good whiskey as well as amazing Old Bay wings and pizza. The Italian dishes are very good as well and we have nothing ever to complain about and usually go home with a huge take out bag for not alot of money. No complaints here and would highly recommend as I am a pretty picky eater.

Super delicious food but we waited like 20 mins for the waitress to take our order but as soon as she did food came pretty quickly and she took the order correctly. The stromboli was delicious and the pizza fries were ok.. overall pretty good and would go again.

'THE BEST' MD Crab Soup in town - hands down! We've tried all the other guys and they just don't compare!

I love their pizza. Everything else is good (especially the shrimp salad), but the pizza's my favorite.

We have made this our destination for years after weekend drives and antiquing through Pennsylvania. Over the years we've enjoyed their pasta, pizza and cheese steak subs. One thing I wish they would start doing--because it's always been a problem--is to fully DRAIN their pasta before plating it. The past few times there, we've asked for a bowl so that we can pour excess water out. Wait staff are always amazed/embarrassed by the amount of water we pour out. Our running joke is that we make tomato soup at the diner table. We are both convinced that they used to make their own pasta. After eating there again yesterday, however, it tasted like pasta from a box-OK, but not stellar. Happily, they do still continue to give large portions-enough for leftovers, and the bread and salads are fresh and crisp.

Alright so I figured I'd give J & P another try. I mean thousands of Hampstead-ites can't be wrong right? Well either Hampstead-ites have lower standards or I just missed the boat on J & P. My wife and I stopped in on a Friday night and the line was out the door. The wait was about 15-20 mins which is not unreasonable. We sat down and my wife wanted some sangria. 1 glass is $6, a pitcher is $11. Interesting pricing structure...alright J & P, I'll bite. I wasn't in the mood for sangria but since its cheaper to get a pitcher than 2 glasses, why not? The sangria comes out in a beer or soda pitcher and we are handed 2 pint glasses. The sangria is probably some cheap bottled sangria with a few slices of oranges thrown in...classy. Hey it was $11 for essentially 60 oz of "wine" so what can you expect. As my last review mentioned, I've already discovered their subs were sub-par (get it, SUB-par) and their pizza was meh, so let's go for what everybody says is good about the place - pasta. I got the chicken piccata this time, which looked delicious when it was brought out. The chicken was cooked perfectly - tender with a bit of browning around the edges. The linguine pasta was cooked well but was drowning in wine sauce. The wine sauce didn't not have much flavor and neither did the capers that came with it. Not bad, not great...definitely nothing to write home about. Sadly I would say it was about Olive Garden quality...maybe. So conclusion: Hampstead-ites have low standards or they are riding off of the nostalgia of when J & P was good a long time ago. I reiterate that for pizza and subs, go to Tony's down the street. For pasta, I don't know...go over to Westminster to Libertore's or microwave some Stouffer's or something.

We really love their pasta and subs. I find their meat sauce to be the best with their lasagna and manicotti.

I used to eat at New York J&P more often when I lived in Hampstead, but still manage to get there about once a month or so, ALWAYS for the pizza. I LOVE their pizza! Where to start: the sauce is both a tad sweet and spicy, the cheese is that gooey, gloppy mozzarella (or something) that s-t-r-e-t-c-h-e-s when you grab a slice, and the crust is wonderfully thin and crunchy on the edges. The toppings are excellent, especially the meats. All in all, a great slice o' pie!!

First off, a disclaimer - I've been coming here since I was 5, more than 20 years now, so I might be a tad biased. That said...if I've been coming to a restaurant for 20 years, they must be doing something right! Back then they were a counter with a few tables - that they've expanded to four times that original size tells you something about their popularity in the local area. I've had a lot of styles of pizza, from a lot of places. While true New York City pizza is impossible to top, J&P's does as good a job as anyplace I've been outside the Five Boroughs. It's my understanding that they make their own sauce, and to me, that's one of the keys to their excellence, along with all the other top-quality ingredients they use. Over the years, I've tried a lot of things here. You can't go wrong with any of their pizzas (a particular favorite is the shrimp and cheese pizza, especially appreciated by my Catholic family during Lent!). Other favorites include: antipasto salad, the fried ravioli appetizer, pizza steak sub, Gnocchi Sorrentina (better than some gnocchi I've had in San Francisco's heavily-Italian North Beach area!), lobster bisque (when available -- it's a special), anything with their amazing Italian Sausage in it, and their strombolis. This last requires special note - they are pretty much the only place I know of that charges a flat price for their strombolis, whatever toppings you may choose...and they are awesome strombolis. I like mine with everything! Any of their daily specials are also worth considering, as they are typically delicious. Though I've since moved (far, far) away from Carroll County, J&P's is a must whenever I'm visiting. Consistent quality, friendly service, and - bottom line - great food, all have me looking forward to another 20 years and more!

Came here for dinner tonight...I had been here years ago, but don't really remember it at all except that we ordered pizza. It was cute and cozy when we walked in and seemed to be pretty spacious inside. Carry out was on one side and the dining room was on the other. The menu had a lot to pick from like pastas, subs, and pizzas of course. There was a long list of specials for the day too. I decided to go with the chicken parmigiana with a side of spaghetti (I had a choice of this or salad). My father ordered a Southern Salad which was HUGE and loaded with breaded chicken, bacon, croutons, veggies, etc. My mother ordered the Shrimp Alfredo and it was DELICIOUS! The next time I go back...this is what I'm ordering. There were 5 huge pieces of shrimp and very rich and buttery alfredo noodles. I was so glad to discover this dish because years ago I had a favorite restaurant that served a dish that tasted JUST like this one...and they stopped serving it. Garlic bread and regular bread (that basically tasted just like pizza dough and was warm, soft, and completely yummy) came with our meals. Definitely will be back to this place. Quite a bit of people in there, but there was no wait. Apparently my neighbors go all the time...now I know why. Reasonable prices and lots to pick from. Portions are huge too.

Like the other reviewer, I've been eating here since childhood, but there's a reason we keep going back! J&P's has expanded into a few branches around Carroll County, whose quality is questionable at best, but the main, original J&P's in Hampstead cannot be beat. They have created a shining pizza beacon to which I compare all other pizza, and J&P's always comes out on top. Everything is fantastic. Seriously, you won't be disappointed. Their salads are always so incredibly fresh, I swear they must have a garden in the back room. Maybe it's the anticipation or the extra pizza-maturing time, but take out always seems to taste better.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
