I went back an ate in the restaurant proper just last night. We arrived a few minutes after 6pm on what had been a snowy day, and it was far from crowded-- one other table in the dining room when we arrived, and a handful of people eating in the bar area. It filled some while we were there, but was never crowded. The house cabernet, served in a carafe, was fine, if not wonderful. The salad and breadsticks were excellent. At our table we had the seafood alfredo, the lasagna, and the evening's special of Rockfish Chesapeake over linguine. The seafood was delicious... the sauce was good enough, but I firmly believe they can do better. The special was delightful. We took two pieces of the in-house made tiramisu home, and it was marvelous (again). The service was a hair on the slow side, but so pleasant I can't even pretend to be mad about it. The music was definitely louder than it needed to be, but we adapted. Still the best italian food in Hampstead. And we have a lot of options.

I will gladly give Fratelli's five stars. I noticed some "yelpers"on here that give bad reviews everywhere they go. That being said- my husband and I enjoyed Fratelli's very much. Our service was fantastic and the food was delicious. I got the crab cake stuffed portobello mushroom with shrimp and pasta. My husband got the steak and crab cake. Their crab cakes really are some of the best I have ever had anywhere. The clams casino were very different from what I've had before but still very good. I would get them again. The menu had so many choices and the restaurant was clean and decorated nicely. There were kids and adults and the dress was casual but it seems some people were celebrating in a back room so it looked like they can hold a lot of people. The parking lot is very large so no worries there. I can't wait to go back!

So good! I am a big believer in customer service. If the food is sub par but the service is awesome, it doesn't even matter! The lump crab meat is amazing and they definitely don't skimp on it. Bread and salad is good too, and is included with your meal. Will definitely be back when I'm in the area again!!

Service and ambiance were nice. I did get the feel from the menu that it hasn't been updated since the 80's. Your typical "italian American" fare. The bread and salad were a nice touch but this reminded me of a homey Olive Garden. The salad had clearly been sitting in the dressing for a while as it was a tad soggy. I ordered a New York strip with linguine and shrimp. The steak was ordered rare and came medium. Not a big deal, I half expected the steak to be over cooked but I still wanted it. It was flavorful from the grill though. The linguine was nice, I make my own pasta so was appreciative of homemade but I would have preferred more al dente. The issue though was the cold shrimp. Not warm or cooled, but cold. It had been par cooked and reheated. The center was COLD. My friend ordered the chicken parm. It was HUGE and had a good flavor. She couldn't finish her portion though. Probably got two more meals out of it. We ordered strawberry cheesecake. Another huge portion. The strawberry sauce seemed like it came out of a container at a grocery store. That was disappointing. We also ordered coffee with our dessert, they do not serve espresso...and were charged about 2.80 for it. I was a bit flabbergasted about that. I probably won't return.

This place is pretty awesome. I arrived and was greeted with a smile. I asked to be seated by the bar so I can watch some TV while I had my lunch. The bar tender immediately approached me and asked what I would like to drink. I did not come here for a drink but I couldn't turn down the offer. After reviewing the menu for a couple of minutes, I've decided to start off with the prosciutto wrapped asparagus and take on the godfather panini. So here's the break down: Beer: Ice cold Heineken - Perfect Prosciutto wrapped asparagus: The prosciutto was a bit on the salty side but the asparagus balanced it off very well. Yummy. Godfather panini: Not too big, not too small, just the right size! Crab cake, cheese, a mustardy-tartar sauce, united together in a panini.... need I say more? You can't go wrong with that combination. Dessert: N/A (I did not have room for dessert) Check them out!

We were excited to hear of a new restaurant opening in Hampstead, although a third mediocre Italian is not quite what the town needed. The promise of homemade pasta and seafood dishes was alluring, so we tried it on three separate occasions. General consensus is that the service and decor are good (not fantastic), and the food is just OK. On two of the three occasions the older woman at the hostess stand was rude and unaccommodating. We requested a booth on one occasion, and she told us we couldn't sit at a booth, although several were clearly open. Another time, she was clearly annoyed that our party included 3 children, although it was not a busy time at all. This is a family community and the management will do well to remember that. Regarding the food, I am pleased with the choice of kids' menu items (although there is no actual kids' menu...). My daughter enjoyed the fettuccine Alfredo. My cheese ravioli were OK, but the chicken Parmagiana was very greasy. On another visit, I had the chicken Marsala, which was awful. The chicken was over-floured and gummy, and the Marsala sauce was thick and bland. The entrees are pricey for the offering. We will give Fratelli's some more time to get their act together, and perhaps give it another try. The location is convenient and the inception is promising. For the most part, when we want passable Italian we'll head down the road a mile or two.

We tried Fratelli's for the first time last night. We have been looking forward to this restaurant opening since we heard it was coming! Overall, our experience was pretty good. We were seated right away. The restaurant was very busy. Service was prompt and friendly, although our server seemed very nervous. Entrees come with bottomless salad and bread sticks, which bear a close resemblance to Olive Garden. Very tasty. For our entrees, we had lasagna and Veal Oscar, both of which are listed on the menu as house specialties. Both entrees were delicious, although the Veal was not what I was expecting. It was literally drowned in sauce. The veal was delicious, the asparagus was cooked perfectly, and the crab meat was plentiful and good. However, it was very difficult to find the crab meat in the white cream sauce. I really could have used about a third of the sauce that was on the plate. For dessert, we had a very delicious cannoli that was the perfect crispness - I dislike it when the cannolis are obviously made earlier and have taken on a soggy quality. None of that here! Overall, I give this 4 stars - they lose a star for the imperfect Veal dish. I would not order the Veal Oscar again and would try something else. However, the food was overall delicious and this is a welcome addition to Hampstead. We'll definitely be back.

We have gone many times and it never disappoints. Food, service and drinks are top notch. It's one of our favorite places.

The only good thing about our experience was our waiter. We were considering renting out their back room for a dinner party the night before our wedding. When we met with the manager she had an attitude from the get go. We told her we would like it for a Saturday night then she proceeds to tell us there's a room fee charge to have it then. She told us to do it during the week even though we said we needed it for that night. She also didn't like that we wouldn't probably need to use the whole back area and said because of us she wouldn't be able to put other guests back there on their busiest night of the week. I was just really upset at how rude she was to us and we will not be patronizing the establishment again. You would think if someone comes into your restaurant and tells you they want to have a large party you would do what you could to get that business, but not this lady. She clearly needs to take some lessons in customer service!

A new restaurant in Hampstead. Nice decor and the atmosphere is inviting. I had the lasagna and the meal includes breadsticks and salad. The prices were reasonable. The staff was very friendly and very pleasant to deal with. We met the owner and she was nice to talk to and really is hoping to build a loyal following. We'll definitely be back for another bite of the apple!

Fratelli's opened up about a month ago and my wife and I wanted to try it. It always has been busy so we did not get go until recently where my wife, her family and I decided to give it a shot for her birthday dinner. We had a relatively large party (7) so we made a reservation earlier in the day. We arrived right at the time of our reservations and were told our table was not quite ready. Seems the party at our table was taking a little longer than expected. It was a busy Saturday night and there were probably about 7-8 people waiting for tables. It was no big deal as we waited about 10 minutes before we were called. The wait gave me a chance to look around. The decor is probably the classiest in Hampstead...which isn't really saying much but still a compliment. The decor is contemporary in earthy colors with dim lighting. The bar is nicely sized with 2-3 tables and 2 flat screen TVs. There were only 3 beers on tap which was disappointing but one of them was the Sam Adams Seasonal (Winter Lager), which pleased me. We were a bit disappointed to be seated a booth that probably is best seating 4 but can seat 6...oh wait, 7 if you stick a chair on the end. There was enough room on the table but everyone was shoulder to shoulder on the benches. Once the plates and the bottomless breadsticks and salad came, it became a shuffling game to move things around without spilling drinks. It was manageable, it was a busy night and we were a significant size party so I can't complain too much but it just wasn't ideal. The claim to fame for Fratelli's is their pasta which is made fresh daily on the premises. They even have the pasta machine on display in an alcove off the dining room. As you may have read from my other reviews, I'm not big on pasta so I got a pizza but the rest of my party got pasta. 2 people got the Seafood Primavera made with Fra Diavolo sauce, another got the same dish with the marinara sauce, another got the Shrimp Gypsy and another got the Lasagna. The consensus from those was that the marinara sauce tasted like it was out of a jar. The noodles were relatively flavorless and the meat/seafood did not taste seasoned. The lasagna apparently tasted good but it looked like it was microwaved with half melted cheese on top and it was cold in the middle. The portion sizes were hearty. I was relatively pleased with my pizza. Different than the other places in town, they serve a deep dish style pizza (think Pizzeria Unos). It wasn't the greatest I had but it was good to satisfy a craving for deep dish. I will say that the service was good. Our waitress (Kellie, I think) was on point and there when we needed her. One weird thing that I chalk up to their stupid POS system was when we paid the check. We wanted to split up the check amongst 3 cards. In any other restaurant I've been to, this is not an issue. She returned with the receipts and noted that we could only add a tip to one of the cards (we told her to put an amount on 2 of the cards and the balance on the 3rd - the 3rd was the one we could add tip). If I had known that beforehand, I would have calculated tip into the original amount but I was forced to go to the bar to get change so we could leave her a decent tip. Overall, I think Fratelli's will do ok in Hampstead. Their food is average, but as I've found out, Hampstead-ites love their mediocre pasta (see my New York J & P review). I think their food could be much better if they seasoned it better. Their decor and bar area is much nicer than their competition. Service wise as long as they keep it up, I'll come back for a deep dish pizza and perhaps when I (or more likely my wife) has the odd pasta craving.

I was kind of skeptical about this place looking at the yelp reviews before I went, but when I got there it was nothing short of excellent. The bar had $2 domestics during happy hour. The bartender was very accommodating to some of the more peculiar requests I heard while seated at the bar too. The interior was very nice looking and clean. They tried to make it look as Italian as possible. The wait staff were excellent. Always on the move always courteously tending to tables making sure that everyone was completely satisfied with their dining experience. Our water was Adam, he was very good! He says he works there 6 days a week, so chances are he will be there the night eat there. When you go to this place ask for Adam, by name; you won't be disappointed. He took great care of the table of 8 that I was with. My party had guest ranging from 1-65 years of age and everyone was 100% satisfied with their dining experience. The food is amazing for an Italian restaurant that's really out in the middle of nowhere. There are many Italian restaurants closer to Baltimore with food that is nowhere near the quality of Fratelli's. They make their own pasta and sauce's from scratch!!! This is something more common in pricier restaurants, but Fratelli's charges very reasonable prices for their dishes. The seafood here it very good as well. There were no rowdy guests while I was there either. It's a great place to stop after work for a beer, with friends, date night, or with a family. FYI: the owners also own Basta Pasta which also has very good Italian food!

Avoid if you have any allergies or dietary restrictions. We were told there is a strict no change/no substitution policy. This was suprising for a menu which warns patrons to be patient awaiting a meal as everything is made to order. Not so apparently. All proteins are pre-breaded with the exception of the italian sirloin steak dish and the chicken or shrimp gypsy. A lobster tail was only available with the crab imperial. No piece of fish could be simply broiled; no sauces omitted. Other than being one of the most limited places for one with celiac (even J&P's will throw a piece of plain salmon on the grill for you & serve with a veggie), the atmosphere was nice and the wait staff was fabulous. My companions commented that there was much more filler in the crab than they'd had on previous visits. My chicken slices with garlic, tomatoes & artichoke (minus the pasta) were fine. Nothing I couldn't have thrown together myself, but fine. Parking is adequate and they do take reservations.

I've dined & drank here at least 3 times since my first review, and I do believe Fratelli's has significantly improved. During my first experience, the staff were wonderful and that has remained consistent. I now have my favorite bartenders and waiters. I've also added these appetizers/entrees to my "TRIED" list: Stuffed Portabello, prosciutto wrapped asparagus & Baked Tortellini. All of the above have been absolutely superb, and I'd order all of them again! I have not tried the Shrimp Gypsy dish again, but will someday. I wanted to update my review because even though I stand by every word of my first review when I wrote it, I do believe Fratelli's deserves the positive update.

I have been there twice and both times ordered food with the crab and it was soooo good. I would recommend if you so to order the seafood because I have heard nothing but good reviews on the seafood thou the traditional American Italian food may not be as good. The service was fast and somewhat friendly but the brought the main course almost at the same time as the appetizer. I hate when that happens.

We had a very good meal, crab cake was good....special for the night was orange roughy with a crab cake with linguini in a sauce. Service was excellent, so I am not sure where some of these reviews came from on here....some people live to complain!

My fiancé and I frequent Fratelli's often. The atmosphere is very nice and they always seem to offer great dinner specials. Have never experienced an extended wait time. Usually we are put on a list and go to the bar for a drink and our table is ready before we finish our first drink. Great place for a romantic Italian dinner.

Excellent food, highly recommend it! I had the broiled platter and everything was fantastic - the lump crab cake IS as good as everyone says. We also had stuffed shells, seafood Alfredo and no one was disappointed in any way. The crab dip was amazing, haven't had better.

Food and atmosphere were terrific. Can't say the same for the hostess who was cleaning the door as we arrived, saw us coming in and proceeded to just walk away. Our server was ok not the friendliest or fastest but he was ok.

The calamari is delicious and the service is impressive. The servers, bartenders and managers alike have one concern and that is the customer. The owner George is a young man, however he runs his establishment as if he were a seasoned veteran, a true restaurateur. It is very evident that he is not afraid to get his hands dirty. I visited for the first time for a business meeting and was unable to eat a full meal but I cannot wait to bring my wife for dinner. If you want authentic Italian Cuisine, definitely give this place a try. They have a pasta machine in a little nook off of the dining room, when I asked about it I was informed that all of the pasta is made in house. Now that is as authentic as you can get. There is nothing like freshly made pasta. Stay tuned for my updated review after I visit for dinner with my wife. Keep it up Fratelli's! I wish there were more authentic places like you out there.

10 of us went to Fratelli's for a celebration. I had heard there crab cakes were amazing, and they were able to accommodate our party at the time we wanted to eat. Actually they were VERY accommodating when I changed the reservation twice more before we gathered there to eat. Each request was cheerfully accepted. 7 of us decided to try the Italian fare, the others wanted to put their crab cakes to the test. Our waitress was very helpful, navigating those that were dairy intolerant through the menu, and when she didn't know the answer, she went into the kitchen to talk with the chef. Recognizing a diary issue at the table, she brought out an extra serving of the community salad with no cheese and no dressing. She also brought out an order of breadsticks without butter and told us she asked, and they were made without milk ingredients. I'm always pleased when a server really listens, and goes out of their way to accommodate requests. . So, how was the food? The crab cakes were impressive. Lots of jumbo lump, little filler. The fries chosen with them were crispy and seasoned well. Though the portions were large, several guests managed to finish their food. Those that didn't requested containers to pack it up, planning a tasty lunch the next day. The only reason I gave 4 stars was 1) There is no option for 4.5 stars. 2) Though they will accommodate your allergies, all of the sauces (including the wine/olive oil based sauces) contained butter. If I hadn't asked, those that are dairy intolerant would have assumed a description of white wine, olive oil, and garlic was dairy free. We are looking forward to our next visit

Took my wife and daughter there for dinner the other night ,they were a little busy in the main dining room had to wait 10mins no biggie ,finally sat waiter came and started to take the order I asked about the pizza and was told was the best around. My wife ordered shrimp fra diavolo and we ordered clams with linguini in white wine sauce. Well I ate 1 slice of pizza my wife said her dinner was less than tasty sauce was so bright red and no seasoning , the clams with linguini and white wine was uneatable to say the least it was not white wine but milk and cheese and so much canned chopped clams you couldn't chew it, a total waste of money and time and won't ever go back , I had heard the food was less than par but wanted to find out myself , sorry I did The only thing that was good was the salad and bread

First dining experience here, I ordered a small cheese pizza for my app and crab cakes for main. Rolls and salad bowl comes out first, fresh baked rolls and very fresh salad, nice start. Pizza looked good, cooked nicely, it's a deep dish style, wish is not my favorite style but its good, cheese and sauce tasted just right with a nice big slightly crispy crust. Not sure if the menu states deep dish style or not, should add if not. Broiled crab cakes arrive quickly with fries, menu states eastern shore awarding winning, they were very big and cooked nicely, nice big chunks of jumbo lump which was nice to see and tasted fresh. Nice taste and seasoning with a hint of red peppers which I prefer, not found in most crab cakes, more so in crab imperial. They were ever so slightly a touch dry, which is why I enjoy a cole slaw with my cakes, but being an Italian spot, no luck....ok, no worries, good cole slaw is a rare find anyhow. Portions are nice and big, great value and the service was solid with no wait time, bring your appetite and loose fitting pants!!!! Four stars, nice spot, give it shot Cheers

This place has become a favorite for my family since opening. The salad and breadsticks sort of remind me of Olive Garden (although Olive Garden has better breadsticks). But I am one to always get the same thing. I always get the chicken Oscar and I absolutely love it. The asparagus that comes with it is great. My mom always gets the crab cakes which are well known around here! They have a lot of meat no filler. I suggest you make a reservation before going in the evening though. They get pretty packed and the wait can be long. Overall I give them 4 stars!

I called to make a reservation for a surprise party on a Saturday night for about 12-14 people. I was put on hold 3 different times and spoke to a different person each time, every person ruder than the next. When I spoke to George, he informed me that he couldn't seat my party minus one person a few minutes early because "he has a line going out the door Saturday night". Well no worries sir, if you are that busy you do not need the $800 or so that we would have spent on dinner and drinks. We would hate to interrupt the restaurant flow just to be sat 15 minutes early so that our friend doesn't catch us standing in a crowded doorway. Some surprise that would be! I am happy to spend my money elsewhere if that means we are treated to more courteous service.

Enjoyed Christmas Eve dinner here. Food was good, nothing mind blowing, but also nothing to complain about. Service was excellent although obviously expedited to turn tables over for other people waiting to be seated. I will be back to try again on a non holiday to see if it's any better. Portions were huge- maybe too big.

Went for the first time tonight after hearing positive reviews from friends. I have to say overall I was disappoint in the food. There were good size portions especially the crab cakes my wife had tonight but we both felt was lacking in both dishes was flavor. I had the veal Oscar and it was also very bland. Just no flavor and when spending over a $100 for two with dinner and drinks I was really hoping for more. The customer service was great. I liked the fact that every person seemed to be responsible for making sure customers were taken care of for drinks and clearing the table as different courses were completed. I was a little thrown when a gentleman came by our table and took an empty drink from us due to the fact that he was wearing crapy jeans and an untucked shirt. At first I thought it was another customer. Turns out he might have been a manager or owner. Still not sure since his staff was better dressed then he was. Again just generally disappointed but will give another turn on a less busy night other then Friday night dinner rush. Hope this helps other folks in the future. Cheers and good dining.

This is one of my favorite restaurants in the Baltimore area. The salad and breadsticks that come with every meal are amazing and each entree I've tried is delicious. My favorites are the crab cakes and the scallop scampi. My favorite drinks are the different types of sangria. Service is always awesome and quick but on weekends definitely expect a wait!

Four of us went on Saturday night and the experience was great! We started with some drinks in the bar and the bartenders were very friendly and got right to making our drinks, which were properly prepared and delivered timely. We then moved to the main dining room for our meal, we were seated right near the front of the room in a booth. Comfortable seating area. We were quickly greated by our server (I feel bad I don't remember her name, she was excellent). A second round of drink were ordered and apps. The calamari was EXCELLENT as well as the crab pretzel. Our main courses were mostly Italian pasta dishes (and one chicken Chesapeake) which everyone was raving about their meals. All of it was properly prepared, seasoned and arrive at the table hot. I am actually have some leftovers that I am looking forward to eating for lunch today! All in all it was a great experience. I would recommend anyone to go there! And judging by the crowd, the word is out. Fratelli's is the place for Italian in Hampstead!

Horrible service. Every time we go there, something disastrous happens. The last time a waiter spilled 4 glasses of ice water all over my wife and no one came out to apologize or anything. Mediocre food, lousy and expensive bar and horendous service. Will not go back - ever.

Another mediocre, overpriced, "Italian" restaurant in the Hampstead area. My family and I came in becuase of the great reviews we had read of the crabcakes. The salad was delicious and cold and the house dressing was good. That is all we enjoyed of Fratelli's. Breadsticks were burnt and had almost no butter on top. My mother ordered a single crab cake with zucchini (which was greasy and overcooked). My father ordered the stuffed shells. They were alright, nothing too fancy. I ordered chicken marsala and it was also sub-par. The homemade pasta that I've heard a lot about was fine, but the marinara on top was tasteless. The worst part was the service. The waitress was nervous and slow. It turns out she ordered the crab cake platter for my mother instead of the single crab cake. She promised to take care of it but instead the owner, George, came over and took the other crab cake off my mother's plate. Seriously? Where did that crab cake go? Did he replate it and serve it to someone else? Pretty sure that's against health regulations. On top of that he was quite rude and dressed in ripped jeans. Needless to say we will not be coming back.

Live close to the area and finally decided to give it try. Went on a Friday before the rush dinner diners came. Was greeted by the hostess who refused to give us a booth. She tried to put us at a table in the back clearly when there were 4 booths available in the front. I really think it may have had something to do with our children. When we said we were gonna leave she them offered us a booth. During our meal you could clearly see the hostess was speaking about us ( I saw her and other girl making remarks and the one girl pointed to where we were). I had the crab cakes and they were very good and my husband had lasagna which he said was ok. The kids had buttered noodles. Salad and bread is nice. We ordered 2 pieces of cake to take home so we could beat the rush hour traffic and were shocked to see the chocolate cake was 10$ a piece!!!!!!! Wiling to give it another try but will go somewhere else for desert. Meal was pricey. Atmosphere is nice . Bar looked nice as well.

Well I was hoping for a decent restaurant in Hampstead. Fratelli's is not it. The food is edible but only barely. The waitress was wonderful, very helpful and friendly. The music was obnoxious.......tinny and a little too kitschy Italian (just like the cheesy decor). I can handle bad decor and music but the food is pretty bad. And the prices for the quality were a little high. The quantity was good if that's what you're after. The wine list was very limited. Ok - now to the food..........my husband's chicken was very tender, the crab cake had a distinct mayo/vinegar taste but the meat was nice and chunky. My salad had a very bottled vinegary dressing on it that almost made the salad inedible (and a chunk of hard as rock tomato) - the salad included ONE olive, ONE pepperoncini, a couple slices of cucumber, the chunk of tomato, and lots of iceberg lettuce with a couple of baby spinach leaves. The 'bread' sticks could have been made by the Pillsbury doughboy - gummy and not Italian in the least. The shrimp scampi was not anything to brag about - extremely tart sauce that only hinted at some butter and lots of that familiar vinegary taste. The shrimp were slightly overdone and the pasta was literally swimming in the sauce. I try not to set my sights too high when a new restaurant comes to town so it seems par for the course. I'll keep driving to Timonium to eat........(or Greenmount Station for better crab cakes).

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
