The turkey sandwich was good but the fries are always soggy.

I'm the type of guy who really enjoys a nice, solid breakfast regardless of the ambiance and fanciness level of the place I'm dining. Good old "greasy spoons" and "dives" are fine by me. And so it was that I was looking forward to trying Chappie's, having read the other reviews that largely found the food to be good. On the plus side, service was pretty good, and the coffee was better than most diner level coffee. Inv the negative side, I just didn't dig our food. We ordered two dishes to split. The cream chip beef, better described as cream on toast, was a disappointment of King Kong size proportions. Plenty of cream, but do very little chipped beef that it left me thinking I'd have done better with a Swanson frozen "chipped beef in a bag." Unforgivable. The western omelette was better, but a bit on the small side. The potatoes it was served it came in huge chunks, larger than in any home fries our hash browns I've ever experienced. And they were quite dry. The biscuit my partner had was okay, but very floury tasting. I've wavered on whether to give a two or three star review, and am going with the lower primarily because of just how skimpy the cream chipped beef was on the beef. I was really hoping for a jewel in the rough, but was unfortunately disappointed.

Not bad. Better than expected, really. The diner seating is better than the open tables in the "dining room" section from a decor perspective. The servers are friendly, but no-nonsense diner waitresses that provide genuine local color. The burgers are pretty good, and cooked to order. A decade ago, when it was just the Beltway Diner, it was pretty much the same minus the expended dining space. The menu's been revamped a little bit, and the kitchen's better than in days past. Still, a solid greasy-spoon. Good selection of pies and cakes for dessert, too.

My buddy and I meet here for breakfast a few times a month, usually on Mondays, so that is what this review is based off of. It's never too crowded and the service couldn't be nicer. The waitresses always make for great small-talk about what's going on in Baltimore. I usually opt for the omelet or french toast. Always a plus when scrapple is available as a side. Prices are more than fair. Breakfast menu isn't that extensive but you'll find the necessities.

This place is definitely a dive. It's old ,dingy, and dark, and in need of some remodeling. The service is friendly but, a bit slow. However, the food here is great! Our burgers were cooked perfectly to order and they were juicy, flavorful, and fresh. Not to mention we got them for a daily lunch special for $3.99. We added fries for a slight up charge ($1-$1.25 I think). The fries were also done perfectly. We also got the Old Bay wings. I thought they were great. My hubby thought they were a bit dry. They make their own Bleu cheese and Ranch dressing which really makes a difference! I will definitely eat here again if I am in the area. The menu has a lot of wonderful choices and it seems to be a spot for the regulars.

Try the multi grain pancakes! Food is great, service is great, too. It is a nice neighborhood establishment and you don't even need to comb your hair!

Great food, my new favorite breakfast spot. Service was a bit slow but is also not a "food for the masses" place and more of a cooked to order, mom and pop place. Definitely be back. Prices were great and the staff was wonderful!

My boyfriend and I come here quite often. The crab fries are amazinggggggg!!!!!! We always have the same waitress not sure of her name, but she always goes out of her way to make sure that we are ok. I would totally recommend this place to anyone hungry and nearby!

I have to admit, I was hesitant to go here because the outside gave me a sort-of flashback to Steve's 40 East Restaurant (aka Steve's Family Restaurant) -- see my very first review, and you'll understand. However, I was pleasantly surprised, and I can now say that I've been here several times over the past couple years. The first few visits were on the diner side, and I tried something different each time. Exit 10 Cheesesteak, burger, strip steak, and all were good, including the side dishes. One of my happiest surprises was realizing the vegetables were fresh and cooked properly, not canned and/or otherwise mushy. 'Da man tried a couple different things, too, and was usually happy with his dishes, with the exception of the crab cakes, which he said were too mayonnaise-y and didn't have enough lump meat. Yes, the diner is dated and could use a face-lift, but the food and service were good, and that mattered more. Then we started going to the bar side. The drink prices are low (seriously, I had a hard time hitting $50 one night when I wanted to use a discount), but the same food somehow became hit-or-miss. I would say 3/4 of the time it's decent, but then you get a plate of cold food or soggy fries, and it's a bummer. We were going to trivia/karaoke nights there for a little while, but I think that's over with now. I've seen Radio Monkey play there (good cover band!!), and there's a calendar with monthly appearances on there for other bands. I've also seen APA games (billiards) going on, but there are only 2 tables. I've never actually used their pool tables (yet). The bartenders are friendly (I like Weezy), and the bathrooms were recently revamped (thank you). The bar seems/seemed to have several regulars each time I go or have gone. I do wish that they would so something about the smell around the left half of the bar area. There's also a banquet room downstairs (who knew?!), where we attended a murder mystery dinner before. Again, the food was hit-n-miss with that, but the show was fun :-).

Pretty standard diner fare. Nothing will blow you hat off here, but if you're close by, it's worth stopping in. The staff is polite and is a bit slow at times, but it's fine with me. The building is older, the crowd is older so if you prefer younger and newer, perhaps the IHOP will be more of your liking. I really like the creamed chipped beef and the reuben, although the 1000 Island dressing appears to be more like a cheese than the dressing, but still pretty good.

My wife and I went there for breakfast after a couple other places we tried had long lines. We should've gone here first! It was all yummy (especially the home fries, some of the best I've ever had) and inexpensive, too. We'll be back!

They say first impressions can mean a lot. And when you go to an establishment and see sign on the door stating "No Club Colors" it leaves you with a bit of an unsettled feeling. But hey it was breakfast on a thursday morning, so how bad could it be. And the answer, not bad at all. Now i am not sure what the history is of Chappie's or the Motel, but a former Howard Johnson's sort of comes to mind and it comes with the decor of a mid 80's HoJo (wood paneling, formica tops, etc). As mentioned before we went in for breakfast about 10 am on a Thursday. Wasn't busy at all, couple of tables in the dining room were being used and just one person at the countertop on the coffee shop side. We took some seats at the counter, were greeted promptly, handed menus, and had drink orders taken. The menu wasn't particularly extensive, one page, all breakfast staples (pancakes, omelets, waffles, breakfast meats, etc), which was fine to me, we were there for breakfast. Orders were taken, two of us order omelets (including myself, western style), the other ordered pancakes. Orders came out pretty quick. The omelets come out with potatoes (Yukon Gold, sliced, and fried) and with two pieces of toast (white bread) halved. The pancakes with the same toast and choice of breakfast meat (in this instance sausage links). The omelet i had (western style) was great, not overly dry, not overly wet. With the right amount of cheese, meat, and veg mixed in. I could have used a bit of a thinner cut and crisper potato but using the Yukon Gold and it's flavor made up for that. Toast was in the medium range i prefer. My other compatriots similarly enjoyed their meals as well. Finally price, for 3 people meals and drinks (coffee and juice) the price came in the high $20, which i found to be pretty affordable and a good deal. Would i come back, yes for breakfast (it close to a medical facility i take my parents to). Outside of breakfast, idk, that sign on the door has me a bit leery.

I ate there for the first time last Thursday and I was very hesitant for breakfast. It was some of the best food I ever had. If they serve food like that every time I go in I will be a regular.

A step through the HoJo's time portal. A little beat superficially but good food and nice people inside.

I came here this morning w my boyfriend for breakfast around 1130 and was very pleased with the food. There was no wait. The atmosphere was an older crowd and it had older decor, but it didn't bother me much. The waitress did forget to give us menus, so we sat for the first 5mins without them...and also forgot silverware, so we stared at our food for a few mins (such a tease bc we were starving lol) until I stood up and looked around for some--aside from a couple hiccups in service, it was a good experience and I'll be going back :)

This is a very good breakfast diner and we'll definitely go back. The home fries were the best in the area. Service was friendly though a bit infrequent. Tables were not sufficiently wiped but our server immediately remedied that for our table. But food was very good. 60's decor.

The Beltway Motel is known as "Crack Island" by locals, and if Charlie Sheen had stayed here, no one would have cared if he trashed his room or roughed up a hooker. Despite its reputation--or perhaps because of it--a group of my friends and I decided to eat at the motel's restaurant, Chappie's. When we sat down, the waitress informed us that Chappie's was under new management and that everything on the menu was homemade. I'm not sure if that made us feel better or worse, but we trudged ahead with our orders anyways. I played it safe and ordered a root beer and grilled cheese with a side of sweet potato fries, but Roger ordered crab balls for the table and, even though I didn't want to eat shellfish from this place, I popped one in my mouth as soon as they arrived at the table. It wasn't as bad as I imagined, but one was more than enough. My grilled cheese was disappointing--cheddar-flavored American cheese sandwiched between two dry slices of store-bought white bread--but I do have to give Chappie's credit for the sweet potato fries. The fries were definitely made in-house with fresh sweet potatoes, and had they been crispy instead of soggy, they would have been quite good. Ultimately, I wouldn't recommend Chappie's for its food, but if you happen to be in Baltimore and are looking for a unique experience, Chappie's might be a good place to start.

Chappies' food is solid and cheap. I had a bacon cheddar burger and sweet potato fries and had no complaints. The rest of my table cleaned their plates, so everyone liked what they ordered. The decor is straight from the 1970s, but there is something about how untouched by time the diner is that makes it eeriely appealing in spite of the ugliness of the decor. The staff are characters in a very good way. I was there for lunch, but we chatted with an owner who said that the diner is very popular for evening entertainment, and has comedy, live music and a pool table, so I'll have to come back one evening.

This place is about a 3 minute drive from my fiancé's house. Its decent food at a very reasonable price. We've been several times for lunch and twice for breakfast. Ive gotten both the shrimp salad sandwich and the buffalo chicken wrap for lunch. Both were good. Their shrimp salad is very good. Large shrimp in the traditional old bay and mayo dressing. The buffalo chicken wrap is my guilty pleasure here. Crispy fried chicken pieces tossed in a spicy buffalo sauce. Ask for ranch or blue cheese to dip in. For breakfast i highly recommend the short stack of pancakes. Its plenty for breakfast. They are crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Mmm so good.

Service was fantastic and the home fries were the best. Egg sandwich no big deal. We will definitely be back.

This is one of my favorite places to eat breakfast. I eat here a few times a month. I have never had a bad meal. Everything is homemade and the service is friendly and full of personality! They remember my face and immediately greet me with my usual, a cup of black coffee. It's most certainly a local establishment, but that just adds to it's character. They have well priced dinner specials. I have yet to try a meal other than breakfast, but plan to do dinner in the near future. If you're looking for an uppity dining experience, this is NOT your place. If you're looking for inexpensive, tasty comfort food, friendly service, and local flare, Chappies is the place to go.

I love this place. I've only eaten here for dinner and it's definitely a dive, but it's pretty fun if you go on karaoke night. The crab fries and the crab dip are always my go-to orders because they're both seriously awesome. Everyone I've ever taken here has loved it so if you're looking for a new unexpectedly good eating experience, give it a shot!
