We went here after bailing from Hempen Hill BBQ (because of the long wait). The staff were AMAZING and took great care of us (my wife, 6 yr old and I). The chocolate martinis were fantastic, food was fast and delicious and the atmosphere was great! I highly recommend this place if you want something a little different and creative. Simply awesome in all respects!

Whenever we are making our long, bi-annual drive between Miami and The Berkshires, we always make a point of stopping at The Gourmet Goat. Paul and Steve will make you feel right at home in their quirky, fun establishment. A few highlights: - The martinis (2-for-1 at Happy Hour) are served in bathtub-sized glasses by Timmeh. (Order two together and enjoy watching him to do his patented double shake. It's like a Vegas nightclub act.) - The menu, while limited, offers light and tasty, tapas-like choices as well as light entrees. There will certainly be choices on the menu to satisfy you. - A little live music and interesting folk at the bar make for a perfect night in downtown Hagerstown. With all the chain restaurants in the area, it is really important to explore and support places like The Gourmet Goat. They are becoming too rare amongst all the mall-centered, suburban sprawl our country seems to favor. Do you really need to go to another Olive Garden in this lifetime? So, go favor something different. Enjoy a cocktail or two, a double shake, and a bit of frolicking with the goat.

This was one of the places my classmates and I frequently went to for lunch. Wasn't particularly fond of any of their sandwiches but their steamers are definitely worth it.

I would like to give 3.5 stars to this place. While out in a weekend in Maryland, we pair of Washingtonian stumbled into the Gourmet Goat. Our expectations were not really high but they have been met and surpassed. It was during the blues festival and there was a very decent live singer. My husband and I really liked their small plates menu. The blackened fish bites were by far our favorite. The wine selection was not terribly impressive. Service was really good and our waiter was pleasant. We had a good time and would recommend it to other travelers!

What little food we had was delicious. But we only had one round of tapas and drinks during the two hours we were here. Service was incredibly and unbelievably slow. Our waiter didn't ever even stop back to ask how the food was after it was brought out. They had two groups of 10 people and the rest of the place was only about half full and were extremely overwhelmed at just that... On a Saturday night. Now, we will be stopping at IHOP after a show nearby to actually get dinner.

One of the best kept secrets in Hagerstown. Never have a bad meal there. The bartender, Tim, is great!

Travel to Hagerstown several times a ski season and we have found it difficult to find a restaurant with home cooked meals with fresh ingredients (mostly big chain restaurants with high sodium ingredients) until we found Gourmet Goat! The restaurant is split up at dinner time as being half a bar and half formal seating so it can get loud in there but it is worth it as the food is wonderful and all home cooked. The chocolate martini is my favorite along with the homemade red velvet cake (whole family likes this). I like how it has both a good tapas selection and larger meal selection and a good amount of options for kids too. Service both times has been wonderful. Can't wait to head back for next ski season :)

Good place to socialize with friends over some delicious Martini's!

Had a date night there on Saturday night. I was surprised that there was entertainment and the singer was really excellent. Service was fantastic. I had the scallop special which was ok (the sauce overwhelmed the scallops) and my date had the citrus chicken which he said was quite tasty. We had the better than sex chocolate peanut butter cake. It looked like boxed cake but tasted amazing!

A pleasant atmosphere for dinner on a Saturday night, including a wonderful pianist. My husband and I opted for some of the tapas selections and all were very tasty. We also brought along our very picky 9 year old and they were extremely accomodating. Our waiter was polite and friendly and the martinis are fantastic. We will definitely be returning!

I eat lunch often at the Goat. I usually do carry-out as I am on the fly. The subs are great, especially the Italian Stallion. You can get a sandwich version as well. The macaroni salad is not my favorite but the bow tie salad is good. The Stallion, however, is in my top 3 favorite Italian subs.

Driving through Hagerstown over Thanksgiving week and went out of our way a bit to stop at The Goat for breakfast. Great deli with simple but large breakfast and lunch selections and everything is fresh and tasty. All the coffee/tea/hot drinks you could imagine. And service was super friendly! 24 hours and 700 miles after my family left The Goat, I realized I had forgotten my purse there, and the owner was unnecessarily kind and helpful to meet me on a night they were closed to make sure I got it back. I'll be sure to return!!

I really enjoy the Gourmet Goat. Chef Steve does a bang up job with everything from the potato salad to the Chicken Soba. I am a firm believer in simplicity in cooking and letting the ingredients speak for itself and i think it is done well here! I bring my four year old daughter there all the time and with me and she enjoys everything. that is challenging to do if you knew the her palate.

Traveling from GA to CT for Thanksgiving, my 16 year old vegetarian daughter found this place on Yelp for lunch. Was excellent! Loved the downtown, deli feel. Owners were clearly passionate and excited about their restaurant, food and service. I wish I was in the area more often so I could eat here each time.

I had a good experience when I had dinner here recently. I got chicken bites for an appetizer and the Wednesday hamburger special and sweet potato fries. All very good. The martinis (blueberry) I got were fabulous. My only issue was that we sat two feet from the bar in the dining room so that did not qualify us for the happy hour drink pricing. That meant it was $9 for just one martini when had I been sitting two feet over the pricing would've been two for $10. I'm not sure I agree that where you are sitting in a small establishment should make a difference when it comes to pricing, but who knows - maybe there is a good explanation for this that I'm not aware of.

We started our evening at the bar, great, strong martinis with a few nice appetizers. When we moved on to dinner, though, the food was completely uninteresting. Some in our party got a chicken dish that was very very plain and under seasoned and the Artichoke Florentine was thick, overly creamy and essentially a plate full of dip you were to eat with a fork. I would not go back.

  • James M.

First the good: Nice bar experience, extensive selection of martinis, decent if somewhat overpriced appetizers, and a friendly bartender. A solid 3 stars. If we had left after happy hour all would have been well. Dinner, however, was a resounding disappointment. I had the Artichoke Florentine, which essentially was T.G.I. Friday's spinach & artichoke dip you can buy in the freezer section of your local grocer, but served as a main course along with a side salad and priced at $15. My dining companions reported bland and uninspired entrees, one of them ranting about "paying $14 for a plain chicken breast." Bottom line: I'd go back for happy hour but dinner there is to be avoided.

Went back to the Goat for dinner recently. Dinner was tasty and the service was great. I have a qualm with their Happy Hour. If you sit in the dining room, you do not get the Happy Hour prices on drinks. You're spending more money on dinner, but you're not going to get the discount on drinks? That doesn't make sense.

The Gourmet Goat is one of my favorites for breakfast, lunch, drinks or dinner. The food, whether a sandwich or wrap at lunch or any of tapas and entrees at dinner, is always fresh and well prepared. The service is great and the atmosphere is inviting. My lunchtime favorites include the Bow tie pasta salad, chicken salad, tuna salad and any of the coffee drinks they serve. My dinner favorites are the Crab puffs, Chesapeake Fries and the Pasta Primavera. They have great martinis and wine selection...if you're into that, and if you can make it for the Sunday Brunches (every second Sunday of the month) the omelets are awesome. I've eaten at the Goat a lot over the past three years and have never been disappointed! Definitely one of the best dining experiences in Hagerstown, MD!

Everything here was really nice and fresh. Great dill potato salad (though very rich), homemade chick noodle soup, yummy blt and tuna melt. Oh, it's the next day, but I'm still drooling over the "better than sex" chocolate peanut butter cake... foodgasm. Next time I'm back in Hagerstown, definitely going to try the place for martinis and dinner.
