Chinese Cuisine
The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.
Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.
There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.

Their general chicken is really good. However, I'm not sure about the sesame chicken... it's breaded with sauce on the side. It tastes just like fried chicken.... hmm.. The steamed dumplings are really good also, they taste really good just like the ones I got in China :)))) It's a expensive place comparing to other Chinese restaurant tho.

Have been coming here since I was a little girl! If you want good greasy Chinese food, but don't want to go to a hole in the wall place, Imperial is your go-to. Prices are reasonable and if you dine in you get complimentary tea and crackers. The chicken and broccoli with brown sauce is really good, and so is the mu shu pork!

Chinese food, but something not right. More like non-Asians cooking Asian food. Which is OK, so long as you weren't expecting authenicity.

One of the best restaurants I have been to.The people who run this place are very friendly and make you feel at home. The Singapore Noodle is a must have.

This is our families go-to place for take out Chinese food. The staff is always very friendly, food is always very tasty and hot, and price is right. When we do dine in the atmosphere is genuine and reminds you of how Chinese food restaurants used to be like before massive updated chains took over. The wait staff is amazing and service is fast. Children are always welcome!

Food was pretty gross. All of our dishes drowning in the same brown gloppy sauce. Our waitress was very nice though.

Stopped in on a Monday evening for a sit down dinner. There were about five other tables of people and it was reasonably quieted. Service was friendly. Ordered fried dumplings and pork fried rice. The food came quickly, 10 minutes, 15 at the most. The food it's self was very good and well made. 16 dollar dinner. And over all well worth it.

Ordered takeout on 4/4/2015. The food was awful. Szechuan chicken was burnt. Wonton soup was bland. Spring rolls were greasy. Am guessing food came from wholesale distributor that other Chinese restaurants order from. None of it was prepared fresh. Absolutely won't order from here again .

I have never eaten here before, passed it thousands of times on our way up & down Pennsylvania Ave. For the first time in at least a year, the wife & I got a hankering for Chinese. So I decided we needed to try somewhere new. We called them & explained that I was vegetarian, they said they would be more than willing to substitute ingredients that were not suitable for me, for ones that were. Kudos! They were also very polite on the phone. One of the most polite phone calls that I can remember in fact... The wife left to pick up our order. She remarked that they were just as polite in person as on the phone. The place was also reported as being busy. Always a great sign! The food? Great! Not over seasoned with mono sodium glutamate as some places are. Perfect crunch to the veggies... The wife's Kong Pow Chicken was declared to be close to perfect. Their willingness to work with my dietary needs are a huge bonus, that & the tastiness of the food have earned them a repeat customer!

3 stars are for the atmosphere. Linens on the table, wait staff dressed nicely...all those are touches that make this a great place. There is a full bar which is very nice, but they need to update their wine selection. I can't take the nasty wines they serve today. The food is ok, nothing to write home about I've had better tasting Chinese from China Wok in the Longmeadow shopping center, but the atmosphere there is nothing less than ghetto

Update 01/19/2015...the food quality has declined. I would rate this a 3 1/2 star Original Post... Best Chinese in Hagerstown! And best General Tso's anywhere! They use real chicken breast pieces, not the processed fatty crap you get elsewhere. The wonton soup is good, as are the appetizers. The restaurant is a little old but still has a nice feel to it. White table clothes, linens for napkins, silver wear, glasses...it's all on every table. They serve you with hot tea which has great flavor to it. Not much to pick from on the dessert menu, just fortune cookies. This is a great Friday night family dinner or casual dinner date...I wouldn't expect a formal fine dining Saturday night dinner date though. But did I mention, THE FOOD!!! Yum, please try it.

Our waitress Lindsey was awesome.. She brought a pot of tea when we first sat down.. Took our drink order & came back with them and took our order. unfortunately, though not her fault, all of our food was overcooked to almost burnt. even the fried rice & chicken lo mein. owner/manager came & took all food away & it was replaced pretty quickly. However.. The bill was not adjusted in any way..

Used to eat here years ago, read present Yelp reviews and thought Id get some takeout Kung Pao from good memories. Big mistake! Got home, opened box up and it sure didnt look like anything called Kung Pao I have eaten anywhere else. Lots of broccoli, mushrooms, watercress, hardly any ground hot Asian pepper (used to use whole peppers), no green pepper slices or onion, some peanuts thrown on top. Looked a lot like someone didnt pick their call order of in chicken and broccoli, throw a little ground red pepper and peanuts on top, it got recycled as my Kung Pao. Called restaurant back and they ststed this is how they make it, mild and if I wanted it hot, I should have ordered it that way. Not that I was told we make it this way and if you want.....poor stunt to pull on your customers. Pretty bland tasting for "Kung Pao" otherwise--I trusted the good reviews and got burned.

Always the best food and service. Nothing compares... Not even close. General tso chicken is the best.

This restaurant has earned all five stars. Great food, comes out steaming hot and fresh, extremely kind staff, and great environment and feel in the place.

This has been my favorite Chinese restaurant for as long as I can remember. A little more expensive than the others around town, but you definitely get what you pay for. Have to try the egg foo young, as it is really good. The decor hasn't changed in at least 10-15 years, but I don't go there to look at their decor-I go to eat! The steamed dumplings aren't the best but the egg rolls are phenom! The only place I'll eat egg drop soup from. I strongly suggest eating here if you haven't. General Tso's is always a good place to start.

Got food from here last night and ordered a sesame chicken app, this was not like typical sesame chicken BTW... and I'm not sure if they messed up my order (however, I don't think they did) but this was more like katsu chicken... it was chicken that was breaded with no sauce of any kind, and a tiny amount of sesame seeds. Needless to say I was disappointed since it wasn't the typical style sesame chicken I'm accustom to, although the dish itself wasn't bad (if katsu chicken is what you're after). I'm not sure if the non-app sesame chicken would be any different. The roast pork lo mien was decent, as expected, and my friend really enjoyed the crab rangoon app and egg roll, I thought they were okay.

One of the best Chinese restaurants left that have not converted to buffet. Spring rolls are great here as well as chicken with black bean sauce This place is the best in the north-end. if your in the east end it would be fuji for Chinese/asian IMHO. I have been going here for almost 20 years about 1 a month. Also occasionaly order take out for friday lunch at work (is close to stateline). The ChickChow mein and spring rolls are great for lunch special. on the no background music, that is fine, too many have blaring music these days so much that you can't even think. I love the quiet! may all restaurants get rid of the music please! thanks Steve for the times without ti.

We were out looking for a Chinese Restaurant to dine at. I'm tired of the all you can eat places and there food is not good. So I did a search for Chinese Restaurants. Imperial came up on the search. I was not disappointed. The food and service was great. It was a little quite. I will be going back. I will pass 7 Chinese places wile driving to eat there again.

Best chinese in Hagerstown, period. We don't dine in, take out only so I can't comment on nor do I care about ambiance. The food is always delicious.

Imperial Chinese is by far the best Chinese food in Hagerstown. While it is a little bit more expensive than most others: it is definitely worth the couple of extra dollars you might spend! Everything on the menu is fabulous! I have too many favorites here to describe! If you're a meat eater: the General Tso's Chicken is killer! If you're a vegetarian: the Broccoli in Garlic Sauce or the Eggplant in Garlic Sauce are personal favs, but they have a lot of vegetarian options that are all very good! If you are looking for the best Chinese in Hagerstown: this is definitely it!!

I made it here once. It was very good, hot tasty food with all the standard selections and then some. However, it was so quiet, empty and no background music playing that it felt extremely uncomfortable. I now choose to carry out and can't get myself to dine in. Price is a little higher than the other local choices but so worth it.

It was just "OK." I enjoyed the Wonton Soup but the food quality was on the lower end by my standards and was drenched in a soy-based szechwan sauce . They said it was Szechwan Chicken (NOT!!!) and lacked any vegetables. It was served over noodles and fried rice on the side. The egg roll was greasy and overcooked and tasted of grease. The service wasn't horrible, but it didn't seem like the staff was going out of their way to make sure we enjoyed our meal. If you're looking for some quality, Asian food, this isn't the place to come. If you're looking for something along the lines of fast order take out place, this may do the trick. I tend to be a little more picky about quality and this place didn't impress.

So good. Only place I'll go chinese anymore. Love the szechwan chicken and spring egg rolls.

Ordered takeout. We got an order of Beef and broccoli and an order of Sweet and sour chicken. The broccoli was over cooked and the dish had barely any flavor overall. The sweet and sour chicken was overcooked and the chicken was unchewable. Food was barely warm when I got it home. Never again.

great food...great service...best in hagerstown

Note: This restaurant was one of my favorites, until today, service is lacking, heard yelling in the kitchen, I order and got the wrong thing. This was not there day. I rate three stars, they keep it clean but need to get back where they first where when they were best in Hagerstown. The attitude of the staff needs to get more freindly, it seem that everyone was in a mood and it reflects on service and the over all setting of the restaurant.

Stopped here on a road trip. Hunan beef was excellent albeit not very spicy. It is a starred dish, and my order went in to make it spicy, but alas, almost no heat. Nevertheless the dish was tasty and I was pleased. In contrast to some other reviews, my server was very friendly.
