Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

Don't bother. This place won't last long, much like its predecessors. That building must be cursed. Maybe before the next place opens there they can bring in a priest and some holy water. The chips were nice and warm but the salsa was watery and bland. Obviously from a bottle. Our orders were taken quickly by the friendly waitress, but while my mother and husband got their drinks after a couple of minutes, I had to wait a while for my margarita, which was supposed to have been frozen. The large ice chunks in it kept clogging up the straw, but aside from them it was a bit watery, like the salsa. We waited over half an hour for our appetizers (quesadillas), and before we were halfway finished with those our entrees came. My mother's entree was good, but my husband's fajitas were bland and overcooked, as were my "special of the hosue" enchiladas. The enchiladas suizas are special all right, but not in a good way. Never before have I had Mexican food that tasted like absolutely nothing, so I suppose you could consider that quite an accomplishment. It seemed as though the enchiladas had been sitting in the watery (are we noticing a theme here?) green sauce for way too long, because the dish wasn't very hot and the tortillas turned to mush as I tried to eat them. My husband and I would have sent our food back, but after the waitress took our order we couldn't get her attention again.

Mother's day found us in long waits at typical places like Ruby Tuesday. We cleverly called Cinco de Mayo for our family celebration! We arrived and found our huge table prepared and Mannie our waiter served us quite promptly after snacking on fresh chips and salsa. Everyone's entrees were super I enjoyed my Arroz con Pollo! We even ordered fresh Quacamole which was prepared right at our table. So yummy All in all, we are making our Mother' s.day galas right.at Cinco de Mayo. A fun attractive place in which to dine and enjoy!

Service was excellent! Chicken fajitas were delicious! Not too busy. Glad we tried this restaurant!

Pretty expensive if you ask me. 3 tacos for 12.99! Wth? Are you serious? It's not a burrito. The hell with inflation. Over priced. Back in Los Angeles, you could find street vendors selling tacos for .50 cents each to up to a dollar. Same thing. Where's the difference? This whole menu is overpriced but as long as people come in and pay the price, it will remain the same. Some places may be worth the cost, I'll just have to wait and see So the verdict is in..... The choripollo, the main reason I came in, were mouth watering delicious! Good thing it was Tuesday and tacos were $2 ea, which was more feasible to me. I would definitely be back Tuesday for Tacos only, choripollo that is!

Over priced and bland food. This was our first visit to this restaurant and will be our last. Our waitress acted as if she was way off in space. The food was very bland. No garnish of any type on the plate. Most Mexican restaurants will include lettuce, pico and a dab of sour cream with their burritos. Not this place. Very over priced for what you get.

Quick Fast Friendly and ALWAYS Good, i Get the Texan Fajitas Everytime, Steak, Huge Sweet Shrimp, Chicken and Fired Onions and Green Peppers, AMAZING... Chips and Salsa are Good...if i Had One Wish, When Chi-Chi's Used to be open in Frederick i Would Travel from Hagerstown to go there 1st for their Fajitas and their Corn Cake, and 2nd THEY HAD THE BEST FRIED ICE CREAM, No Other Mexican RestaurantMakes Fried ice Cream Like Chi-Chi's Did, The ice Cream was Rolled in Cinnamon and Brown Sugar, that Was A Time Consuming Process BUT it was so Good Me and My Family would Travel 30 minutes to Eat there... In Fact i Should Probably Start My Own Fried Ice Cream Booth... ;) Anyway, U Cant Go Wrong with the Steak n Shrimp Fajitas

Great customer service! Pretty decent Mexican food, probably the best I have had in Hagerstown.

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER! I know it's the May/Pac fight but damn! If you're sitting in the bar you're golden but if you're here to actually eat you're screwed. #Hungry #ThisPlaceSucks #NeverReturning

Interesting staff and interior design. Inexpensive. But the food sucks. Mexicans can't be cooking back there, the food had no flavor at all. On any of the four plates we had at our table. Our waitress Vecky was awesome. Why the bar couldn't make a margarita on the rocks when they had all the items, I didn't know. And neither did she as a former bartender. So she got it made for me and it was excellent!

Been twice here for lunch. The salsa is excellent.Fast and good food. Price and service is good. Full bar. No gratuity added even though we were like 25 people.

This place was ok. I didn't have to wait too long, maybe 20 minutes. We got seated, and the waiter came over promptly. The only issue with that was he was super rude. He was in such a hurry, and said if we didn't order then he wouldn't come back for another twenty minutes. Okay? Got the food. I'm not big on Mexican food, but I will say this food was quite good. The waiter did not come back, and we did not even get asked i we need refills on our drinks. The food was good, but the service completely turned me off of this place!

I wasn't too impressed with this place after visiting. There were a couple things that were really good, like their dips and salsa. However their chips reminded me of tostitos store bought and the rice seemed processed like uncle Ben's or similar. Music was also not traditional Mexican so it didn't have that Mexican feel. And the tables were a bit flimsy.

Traveling through and this was one of few places open after storm. Great chips, above average margaritas. All food is fresh. Service super good. Authentic dishes. Definitely would return.

My husband and I stopped here on our way back to D.C.; it was lunchtime, the joints on the Penna Toll were awful and those on 70 were few and far between, and we didn't want to come home to an empty fridge. We saw a sign for a few fast-food joints at an exit and grudgingly resigned ourselves to those. But soft! What light through yonder traffic breaks? A Mexican restaurant shining amid the dull glare of fast-food signs. We were game. We were seated immediately and had drinks within the first few minutes (one downside--Pepsi products). Chips came after, and we were wading through a huge menu that had some combos I hadn't considered before. I ended up with the Chori Pollo tacos (yum) and the husband ordered the flautas. Sure, it's not 100 percent authentic (we'd just spent the week eating my mom's Mexican home cooking), but they had a nice mix of flavors, service was attentive, and everything was much more satisfying than a burger at McDonald's. Portion sizes are huge, so you'll have dinner leftovers like I did. They also had 23-ounce Dos XX on tap for $3.50. It was physically painful for my husband to turn that down, but we still had about 75 miles to go. If they were closer, we'd go again. But since we're not, we'll just drop by there the next time we're driving home from Michigan.

The service it's great quick and helpful however the food is ok I wasn't that impressed I wish there more options in the drinks department mostly the service and atmosphere is what this place has going for it not much else.

Excellent customer service! Food was out fast and the servers were on top of everything! Awesome specials! The fried ice cream was delish!

The service is what makes this restaurant great! The bar tender Mike, and the assistant manager, Nacho are a blast! The food is pretty good. You won't be disappointed.

This place was PHENOMENAL. We had the guac to start which was made at the table. Everything was VERY fresh. We also had the chicken quesadilla appetizer. BEST I'VE EVER HAD. The chicken was plentiful and marinated and spiced so flavorfully. It was devoured in a minute. Then we ordered our entrees. I had the shrimp burrito. The burrito was overflowing with enormous, fresh, perfectly cooked shrimp. For dessert I had the flan, and, again, it was literally the best flan I've ever ordered. It was made to perfection. I've eaten at probably nearly 100 of Mexican restaurants in DC/Baltimore/WV/and other places in MD.. and this may be my favorite. Even though it's more of a chain-style place. The service was extremely fast. We had our appetizer in under 3 minutes from ordering it. Impressive. My only complaint was that the waiter spoke very softly and mumbled and, coupled with an accent, it made it more difficult to hear and understand him. I had to ask him 3 times what he was saying when he asked what we wanted in the guac. It took a while to get our check, as well. But so what.

My fiancé and I went there for lunch and it was great. The service was great! The menu is fun and different from the usual Mexican restaurants. Full bar and a lot of different vodkas. I ordered White Zin and Jon ordered the Sangria which was amazing. For lunch I ordered the Taco salad and Jon ordered a dish with Jumbo shrimp and scallops with veggies. The sauce on his plate was delicious. We will go back again with friends! Our waiters were great!

Came here the other day and had the carnitas with mild ranchero sauce (they have 2 other sauces you can get on this as well) personally I think I would've liked this better without any sauce but this sauce wasn't bad. The decor here is not as tacky as most local Mexican joints, and it's a pretty decent sized place. I'd say the food is average Mexican food for the area, I'd stop by here again, but overall I didn't find it to be anything special really.

Great service, food was pretty good, and the table side guacamole is a must. Overall good experience

Tried this place for the first time a few weeks ago. The service was very good, but the food was only average. It was kinda bland and nothing special. There are better mexican food options in Hagerstown.
(3)Kristen G.
The main downfall of this place is the service. We were ignored by the two hostesses while they flirted with a waiter. When one brought us to a table, she threw our menus down and walked away without a word. Our waiter was fine, but got our order wrong and dropped our food off without utencils or napkins. We got some from a passing waitress. The food was average, and did not make up for the poor service. Our waiter literally tossed our receipt on the table without a word at the end of the meal.

Wow!! The best Mexican food I've had in Hagrstown! Used to think el ranchero was the best but Cinco de mayo outdoes it! Food is very fresh and has great flavor and seasonings! Chicken chimicanga is the best w fresh onions, guac, rice has good fresh stir fry taste and beans were the best, - had great seasonings and flavor!! The best- you have got to try it n service was great!
(5)Lucas B.
GREAT! Service was good. Food was fantastic. Atmosphere nice. CLEAN! Reasonable prices. I got the chicken fajitas and they were cooked just right. Chicken was tender and juicy, not overcooked like a lot of other places.

It's bomb! Ernesto was a bit of a dick at first cuz I was taking too long with the menu for his liking. He ended up being a good waiter tho. Good food. I'd go again.

The wife & I like to try out independent restaurants. Not cookie cutter chains. After driving past the place dozens of times while they were getting the place ready, we decided to go here for our Mexican craving. A huge mistake! The hostess, not even greeting us took us to our booth. Then we waited... Someone through down some watery sauce & a bowl of chips. We tasted the chips & tried to keep the sauce on the chips, but it was akin to keeping water in a sieve. Eventually our waitress appeared. We ordered cheese quesadillas for starters. Easy enough dish to make one would think. So why did it take 25 minutes to arrive??? I ordered a beer, the wife a margarita. The beer was fine there is little you can do to screw up a bottled beer. The margarita however was chunks of ice, which further watered down a vey weak drink In the midst of our surprise & shock of our starter actually arriving we set about eating... To be surprised when our entrees arrived. What great timing!!! Given that the tables are so small it took great skill to fit in the new dishes. But we did... More due to the wife being gifted at solving logistical problems than due to the non helpage from the waitress. My veggie fajitas were mushy, hard to pick up with a fork, a spoon might have been better. The wife's chicken enchiladas were tasteless & swimming in a green broth. We think that the broth was part of of the tortilla that has liquefied in the over watery sauce. We ate enough our food so as to be polite. Yes we could have sent it back, put getting hold of a member of staff would have tested my long wasted lasso skills. Though there were more staff then patrons, you could not get their attention. The bill came quickly, the best service of the night! We paid our bill & skedaddled out of there never to return!

Knowledgable server with confident answers to all our questions. We started with guacamole prepared table side which was fantastic. Great server that kept our drinks filled and made sure to constantly checkin with us. I had chicken fajitas wife had burrito cancun and our daughter had fish tacos. All served hot and prepared to perfection. A must experience and please get the guac you will love it!!

Great place! Top notch food, service, everything. We've loved El Ranchero for 20 years and will continue, but Cinco de Mayo is a welcome new and different style of Mexican.
(4)Crystal G.
Service was good, but the food was very very bland and it was obviously not homemade. The enchilada sauce tasted like it was canned tomato soup, the tortilla chips were out of a bag. Nothing was fresh.

best mexican place i found in hagerstown
(5)Monika M.
nowhere near an expert on mexican cuisine, but i like this place. the guacamole (one of the rare foods i'm super picky about) was perfect. great service - knowledgeable, fast, friendly, etc. my one and only complaint: they need to turn up the heat, i was freezing! :)
(4)Val F.
I see the mixed reviews, but we had a wonderful meal at the bar, great bartender, Guacamole made fresh in front of us, exactly how we wanted it, good food and service, we will be back!

After being seated with barely a word from the hostess, we were served by a confusing array of wait staff, none of whom seemed quite sure what to do. Service was pleasant, but slow (our waiter was distracted for quite a while by a conversation at another table). Enchiladas were bland and disappointing. Grilled tacos diabla (beef and sausage) were tasty, and quite spicy. Accompanying rice and beans were nothing special. Not a terrible restaurant, but even in this area there are likely to be better choices.

My Wife had told me about this place so we decided to give it a try. We where promptly seated at our arrival and the waitress came by to take our drink order. We where served chips and salsa but there was a a bit of a twist with a white sauce which was very tasty. We asked our waitress what it was and she simply said ranch. Luckily for us we over heard other waiters actually explain what it was and it wasn't just ranch. I ordered the carne asada and my wife ordered the fish tacos. Her food was brought out first and I had to wait for about five minutes for mines. My wife's fish tacos where good nice flavor but my carne asada was dried out piece of meat the beans and rice where good though. We might give this place a try again hopefully with another waitress as she was not very good. We heard other waiters explaining the dinner specials, drink specials , but not her. Hopefully other stuff on the menu is better then what I had.
