My wife likes the restautant very much. Now it is the only Chinese restaurant we go in the PG county (besides buffet). Most of its items are American Chinese food, but it does serve authentic Chinese food and some of them are pretty delicious.

Serene room with neutral wallpaper and large framed Asian pictures. Cloth on the tables (covered with glass) and cloth napkins. Good sit-down Chinese is getting sparse out here in the burbs, so I was hoping to love the food. Alas, I was underwhelmed. Light bodied jasmine tea, had to let it cool a bit. Hot and sour soup, pretty average - no sour and could have used a bit more thickening. But the fried noodles were fresh, crisp, and grease free. The menu noted that Moo Goo Gai Pan contained broccoli, so I selected the curry chicken. Huge serving, that "bowl" looked like a pie plate, and a tantalizing aroma. The sauce flavor was indeed nice, just a bit of kick and much subtler than Indian. But the vegetables were almost entirely onion and the chicken, while plentiful, was tough. Very good service was not surprising, as it was very early in the dinner hour and I was the only one eating in, but I noted a continuous stream of carry out patrons. There was a page of the menu in Chinese, so I may come back if I can bring someone who can read it.

4 star Mongolian Beef!! Lots of extra tender beef with a good flavor! Located in the Safeway shopping center on Greenbelt Rd next door to Starbucks. Called in a to go order (pain-free). Note on the pricing: you are getting a lot of food for that. Dinner entree serves 2 easily. Additionally got combination egg foo yung, excellent gravy! Also picked up an order of General tso chicken and some egg rolls. All food was good, service was adequate. Will return for Mongolian Beef for certain.

OK. This place is not fancy. It doesn't have gourmet Chinese food with hot towels at the end of the meal and little bowls of sorbet like some higher priced places. I'm OK with that. To be honest, most of the Chinese places around the area have turned into buffets with barely warm food that has been sitting under warming lights for hours. At least, this place is a real sit down restaurant that will serve you food off a menu. It 's in a strip center and it could probably use a little cosmetic surgery here and ther but it's a relaxing place to come and enjoy a decent meal of traditional (i.e., traditional by American standards) Chinese food. However, I want to note it has a page of Chinese language food items so my guess is that it caters to the "home crowd" as well which speaks well of it. Both the Missus and I enjoyed our meal and there was plenty to take home with us. The food was hot and tasty. The staff was friendly and efficient and the prices were reasonable. If you're in the Greenbelt area and you want a decent dinner out at a Chinese place that is not wall-to-wall screaming kids running around a buffet table, this is the place. Definitely.

We had a great meal here. Everything seemed very fresh and tasted great. Our friend works in the area and lunches here often. They recognized her when we came in and greeted her warmly. We had wonton soup, the pu pu platter (complete with flaming pot), hunan chicken, beef in garlic sauce and chicken lo mein. Service was polite and attentive. Our water glasses were refilled each time they hit the halfway mark. Tea was wicked hot. Server was pleased to wrap up our leftovers, which I'm sad we forgot in our friend's fridge. The only thing I'd fuss about was that we were supposed to have TWO egg rolls on the platter, and we had one, halved. We'd eat here again.

That one star is because I got a good message in my fortune cookie... and I can't give half of a star. I was ravenous and caught in a freak June DMV rainstorm so I ended up here. I decided to keep it simple and get shrimp & broccoli. I won't waste much more of anyone's time so I'll just say this: disgusting! If I ever figure out what those shrimp-shaped chunks were, I'll update this review.

What happened? New management? Or, should I say mismanagement. This place used to epitomize old school Americanized Chinese in all its glory. My husband and I would come here during our visits and crave the kung pao chicken. We came here a few weeks ago. The staff and food items were no longer the same. The kung pao tasted like sugar! I had to ask if they accidentally gave us sweet and sour chicken. The quality was crap.

This restaurant has been around a long time and has always had really good food. I'm sad to say that I'm noticing now the quality has drastically dropped and the prices have risen. I found disgusting cartilage in the steam dumplings! All three that I tried to eat I had to spit out. I won't be patroning in this restaurant again.

Great Chinese food! Fresh and tasty food without the excess oil... Spring and Egg rolls are to die for.

Avoid this place. My boyfriend and I were kinda broke, but wanted to eat something good. We were struggling for a week, and wanted to treat ourselves. We decided to give Hunan Treasure (more like Hunan Garbage) a try. I ordered the orange chicken (my FAVORITE) Chinese-American dish, and he ordered the lemon chicken. When my food came out, I immediately knew it was going to be terrible. I kid you not, my chicken looked like it had been fried the week before, and then microwaved and drenched in the Orange Chicken sauce. Nothing looked fresh about it at all. It tasted okay, but it was EXTREMELY tough to cut through, and the meat was brown. BROWN! His food looked okay, but tasted like "twice-fried chicken smothered in lemon sauce." The recurring theme here is that they drown their food in sauce to cover up how NOT fresh it is. The service is okay, but the food is HORRIBLE! Save your money.

Overall, this is average Chinese food that you don't mind spending your money for. However, there are times when their food is beyond average--it is very good. When it is very good, I keep forgetting to ask who the chef was for that day. I've been coming here for years and the two dishes that I've settled on are: chicken and broccoli in white sauce and Singapore noodles. Both dishes are good. There are times when the chicken can be hard and rubbery. When I bought this to their attention, they have been so attentive in making sure that my chicken is fresh--for this service, they get 4 stars. It is a decent place and the ambience for eat-in is good too. If you would want to eat-in, request a table away from the traffic of people who comes in for carry out.

I love the shrimp fried rice at this place. Try ordering it with spice...delish! I also love the combination lo mein (with spice) & the spring rolls. I have yet to try their soups and veggie dishes, so more to follow, but so far so good!

Mediocre at best. Went for lunch after reading mostly favorable reviews. Very disappointing. Waitress was very hard to understand and couldn't understand us. They were busy and service was extraordinarily slow. We ordered three different dishes and none of them were particularly good.

This place is nostalgic for me. Is it authentic Chinese food? No. But I don't like authentic Chinese food, so this is ok with me. Hunan Treasure is your neighborhood Chinese restaurant that you love if you're from the neighborhood. They've been there for years and they never forget a face. I've been coming her for years and will continue to do so. I enjoy the family environment. Locals bring their families here or just sit by themselves, reading a newspaper and sipping tea. It's all welcome here. It's a quiet environment, so if you have young kids, this may not be the place for them just yet. My favorite dish here would have to be the orange chicken. Amazing stuff. I've never had anything here that I didn't like though. Service here is always top notch. Like I said, they don't forget anyone. I live in Arlington now and don't have this gem so close by any more. If I am ever in Greenbelt, I make it a point to be hungry enough to stop in for a bite to eat.

Below average at best. Sure, the service is great and having employees who remember your favorites gives a personal touch... but the food quality is lacking. I have some good memories of this small shopping-plaza establishment when I was little, but that was thanks to all the dishes being marinated in Americanized "Chinese food" sauces. This really appeals to kids, for some reason or another. Most of the dishes taste extremely similar, probably because they use the same flavoring/sauces when cooking, and alter a few ingredients and the sodium level. It's beyond disappointing when your Hunan Chicken and Szechuan Chicken not only fail to taste like what their names suggest, but also end up tasting a little too much like each other. Lots of sticky sauce marination going on here as well. We're talking to the point of any veggies present completely losing their distinct flavors. The price isn't much (especially for a simple meat plus veggies dish), but that's no reason to subject myself to a place that I'll only regret eating at and whine about later. Best for lunch [with companions who won't take offense to crappy Chinese food], if only because the prices are the most reasonable in justification for poor food quality.

My co-workers and I order lunch from this place quite frequently, however the other day when we picked up our food and brought it back to the office there were bugs in the soup. We returned the food, explained to the waiter what we had experienced as well as showed him the bugs, his reply was "I know", immediately we called the health department. Eat here at your own risk.

Maybe at one time, this place was good. I've eaten here a total of 5 times, desparately hoping that the fact the vegetables tasted musty/old was just a fluke. That that rice is old is just fluke. That the sauce isn't entirely made of MSG, and that without it, there is zero flavor is, again, just a fluke. But I am disappointed each and every time I have ordered. Old veggies? Old rice? At least the beef and chicken were tender and tasted ok, but the surrounding is just an absolute mess, and a real shame.

I used to like this place a lot, but the owner gave me an attitude because I got there to pick up my order 40 minutes after placing my order. I would have been there earlier but had issues at work but he wasn't having that. Will not be going there again.

I love eating at this place. I've done a few Chinese restaurants, and often times I feel like the staff need to polish up their social skills (or possibly not fully aware of western ways). The wait staff here is very polite, and the guy who serves me, always remembers my favorite (Chicken Almond Ding, spicey, no carrots). I've also had service from one of the waitresses, who was friendly and lively and encouraged me to request Cantonese food--she figured that since I didn't like sweet flavors in my food, I would most likely enjoy Cantonese. (Haven't tried it yet, but I will some day soon.) The establishment is clean, and the customers are pretty polite too. I would like to hear some soothing music in the background, but the place is great without it.

This restaurant was a one-dish wonder for me for over a year (Fried Singapore Rice Noodles). The food here is VERY inconsistent, which lead me to always have to remind the owner to put spice/curry powder on my noodles. One day the chef put way too much curry powder on the noodles, to the point were it was inedible. We brought it back and got a refund. On my way out of the restaurant, I saw an employee rebottling used table condiments(duck sauce & hot mustard) for future use. I will NEVER eat here again, even though they have the best Singapore Rice Noodles in the Greenbelt/College Park area.

I really do want to like this place. It's so close to where I live, so I want it to be better, but every time I go, it doesn't get better. I went to grab some dinner, and ordered the Cantonese Seafood pan fried noodles. What is interesting about this place is that when you order, the waiter will look away like he's embarrassed to be seen near you. As the waiter walked up with my order, I could smell a tinge of ammonia in the air. As the plate was put in front of me, the source of the odor became clear. It was my dish. Now....I'm a risky eater. So, some of the following may surprise some of you. This is my favorite dish. It is essentially a layer of deep fried noodles with a mix of seafood and vegetables in a brown sauce. When done correctly, it's crazy good. The noodles tasted fine. The mushrooms, fine, scallops, fine. When I brought the squid to my mouth though, I thought I'd inhaled some Windex. The smell of ammonia was unmistakeable and overwhelming. So...I put it in my mouth. I chewed it for a little bit and then decided that I would rather not be sick, so I spit it out and called the waiter over. When he asked what the problem was, I asked him to smell the squid. I told him that it smelled of ammonia, and either a) his grasp of the english language did not include some of the words that I used (every one of which is included in this paragraph) or b) he was just ignoring my comments. I'm going to go with the latter. He took my plate, apologized, and then brought me the menu again. This time, I ordered the Tofu Home style. Now that is a good dish. Tofu sauteed in a black bean sauce. Yum! I didn't get sick luckily. I'll likely go back and eat here again. They do have decent chinese food otherwise, and if you get wine, you'll get plenty. Plus another cool thing is in the men's room, there are a lot of stickers for some reason. I have to remember to bring some in if and when I go again.

I love the fried fish fillets here..they're fried with sliced jalapenos and scallions and I don't think it's on the English part of the menu. Had this today with sauteed pea shoots and garlic and it was great. I go with my friend who can read the Chinese part of the menu and let her order for me. She always gets stuff that I like much better than the typical stuff you find on the English menu. This place is also right down the street from me so it's very convenient!

Avoid this place! Wonton soup had mystery things floating, cashew chicken was flavorless and nuts soggy. Terrible!

First, I must say that they were very kind. I left my keys inside and they ran out to give them to me. I ordered the beef fried rice and it was just ok. Not a lot of beef and the pieces were pretty big, I prefer a lot of small pieces. My husband recommended it so I'm probably going to give them another chance and order something else.

Another delicious dinner! We had broccoli in a spicy brown sauce and undeniably the best Kung Pao Chicken I've had. Everything from the hot & sour soup to egg rolls were phenomenal!!! It was truly an enjoyable evening...

This place is a decent place to eat for a nice quick Chinese fix. Good tasting items are hit or miss here. I'm actually a pretty frequent takeout customer so it's pretty decent in my opinion. They definitely are there to feed you. They have really healthy portions (for takeout at least, i haven't sat down at this place as of yet), I'm a pretty big dude and i can sometimes eat a couple days with one order which is definitely a plus. This is one of the better Chinese joints in the Greenbelt area, heck, there's one closer to me and I prefer to get my food here.

Good and fresh if not particularly inspired. Tasty, but rather bland flavorings.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
