This is slowly becoming one of our favorite places to grab sushi in Germantown -- it's quality and convenient of Great Seneca Highway.

Not bad, But not the best, id go back for the same reason i went , because all my other usual spots were closed. Place is very quiet, small and nice staff

Let me start off by saying I will never come here again!!! I chose this place because I've never had sushi here. So I went there to go try it out with a friend for lunch. Long story short we ordered the calamari appetizer and as we finished the plate my friend saw something really dark and pointed out there was a roach. I was so disgusted. We finished the whole plate then there it was a roach hiding in the lettuce leaves. At least the waiter took off the calamari off our check but half off the meal would of been better. But nonetheless I'm never going back there again. Go to yoyogi or yuraku this place is a no go!

NEVER AGAIN! COCKROACH IN MY FOOD!! It can't get more disgusting than finding a cockroach inside my steamed rice, but to have the restaurant NOT take the dinner off our bill and instead comp a Sake, as if that would help, is just as disgusting. Everyone read the other review posted 02/09/15...Rainbow Sushi seems to have a cockroach or bug infestation. Needless to say, we are never returning to this restaurant.

I've been coming to this place for many years and yes while it's not professional top grade sushi or fancy, it is very good for the price you pay. They seem to have a lot of take out orders and they also deliver. People do eat inside, but I think they are known in the area mostly as a good place for sushi take out. I've enjoyed almost everything here. The handrolls, the maki rolls. I love the soft shell spider crab app as well as the fried tempura. On this particular visit I had a huge bowl of chicken udon noodle soup that was perfect for a brisk cold evening. update 2/25/2015 - i'm hearing people found bugs? ewwww. this is surprising... they might have an infestation now. But this has never been the case all the times I've been here. I hope they get this taken care of :/

2 1/2 starts. Both the food and service are just ok. We ordered Japanese Stir-fried Udon (was not bad) with chicken, sushi specials (boston roll and spicy crunchy tuna) - I wouldn't order the Boston roll again, chicken pad thai (not very good), Chicken thai basil (not very good) and gyoza, which was complimentary and the best dish ordered. (maybe because it was free) (smile) It's like each time I go, the quality and taste decrease. Hmmmm , I wonder what the food will taste like the next time I go.

I believe in fairness, so we went here seeing that the reviews had 3.5 stars out of 20 reviews which isn't bad. I'm always willing to give a place a try... And this place wouldn't be bad....if they had an actual sushi chef, wore hair nets or something to keep hair out of my sushi. The waitress doubles as the sushi chef which is not a horrible thing except that I did not see her wash her hands when she went to make our sushi or put on gloves. Especially since she was playing with a tablet beforehand. We found hair in my chirashi lunch special and in my sister's rolls. Kinda gross. The place was also empty at noon on a saturday while the popeye's next store was packed....won't be coming back here.

This is a small little restaurant in the shopping center shared with shoppers, popeye's, mcdz and cvs. Their spicy tuna rolls are pretty good. Like Yoyogi, they offer lunch specials daily. Their lunch specials includes miso soup which explains the higher price. Let me say... Who the heck charges for tea?! Not Yoyogi! This place charges $. 99 for tea and I barely even got a cup!! Oh and get this... They charge $1.55 for a can of soda... Can you believe that?!
(2)Brandon W.
Reasonable prices for sushi. Everytime i go there it always satisfies my stomach. We've been going here for about 4 years now and i love the sushi here. My favs are: Spider roll Shrimp tempura roll California roll Tuna roll Yellow tail roll These always are made to perfection! Love this place!

In chronological order how our visit went... .. entered a empty restaurant, sometimes a sign .. ask for a Coke & glass of water and got exactly that. A can of Coke with no glass or ice, and a glass of ice-less water. .. ordered our entries and they arrived a short time later, but 5 minutes apart (again, in an empty restaurant) and delivered using one hand - the other hand was holding a phone, as she was involved conversation that apparently couldn't wait the time it takes to walk from counter to table. .. as for a glass of ice for my Coke - I wanted to ask, but didn't want to interrupt the phone call, and after she dropped off the meals - she didn't return once until it appeared we were done and needed the check. .. as for the food - no real complaints - other than the lack of customer service. An empty restaurant isn't always a giveaway, but setting down an unopened Coke & glass of tap water without ice or coasters, nor given the opportunity to ask for, pretty much summed up the peak of customer service in the empty restaurant.

This is the go-to place for my wife and I to order sushi. We've eaten there 2-3 times but usually do delivery, and they say 45 minutes but are always here in 20. Once in a while they don't get the order quite right (we ask to substitute red clam with something else). We've literally ordered from here once a month for about 10 years and nowhere nearby compares. We do the sushi combo or deluxe. The quality has never varied.
(5)Danica H.
My first time here. Heard good comments on this restaurant. Portion generous with very reasonable price. Very friendly chef. Very clean eat-in environment. Would definitely come back again. Highly recommend.

It's 4am and I've been up all night "eliminating" my veg sushi that I ordered for lunch Saturday 4 May 2013. I've had in the past,as I'm extremely wary of raw product, and I'm largely a vegetarian. I should have know something was definitely off kilter. One of the female servers (they're both pretty unfriendly--never seen either one crack a smile or initiate a greeting) was on the sushi table, rolling. Not sure why, but that was a red flag and I chose to ignore it. Bad bad idea. Upon consuming the rolls I stopped midway through. The avocado and celery in the roll were not at a cold temp. I spent the better part of the evening in the bathroom. At first I thought I might have botulism, but the cold sweats, weakness, throwing up eventually dissipated. I've had generally good "luck" there, thinking that the veg option is a much safer choice. I was wrong. I will not be taking my business there ever again. Forewarned is forearmed.

Great place to eat I would recommend the Tuna hand rolls they are delicious!!! We will be back again. The lunch specials are good deal also.
(5)Jim F.
Great Sushi for the price.
(4)Sean P.
I've given it a second chance...problem is they don't seem to care. Their kid has stuff spread out all over the sushi bar (see pic). How am I supposed to have a drink and eat my meal with this next to me?
(2)Beth J.
Do NOT eat here. I repeat DO NO EAT HERE! My boyfriend and I had sushi here for dinner last night and within a short period of time we both got very sick. I'm talking hours after hours in the bathroom. It has been a little over 12 hours and I am still having a hard time keeping food down. We both ordered a variety of sushi. At the time we thought the sushi was decent for the price but could not get over the terrible service. Do you bring your order to the counter or does the server take your order? People were doing both, making it confusing and inconsistent. The one server working the floor acted like she hated her job and I guess if I worked here I would too. Do not do it, it is not worth the stomach pain!
(1)Glenn K.
Been coming here for well over 9 years and still the only sushi restaurant in Germantown I really enjoy. Reasonably priced for decent sushi and their dinner entrees are pretty good. Try the sesame chicken or beef!
(4)Kelli L.
My family has been going to rainbow sushi for years . The staff are quite but helpful, which I like. The food is great and I can always expect quality.
(5)Ben R.
This place is great -- our go to when we want a more relaxed and cheaper meal than Yuraku. They have a wide selection and the sushi is very fresh. I'd recommend the sushi over the entrees, the sesame chicken was very dry. The place is usually empty and service is very fast.
(4)John N.
4.5 out of 5. I think like everyone else has said, this place is very deceiving. Dont be put off by the lack of patrons, because this place has a lot to offer. Ive gone here a couple of times and though I normally get sushi, one time I did get the Udon Noodle Soup. Let me just say that I could have fed myself on the soup alone. I was there for lunch and had the lunch portion of the Soup and it was enough to feed at least 3 people. Cant imagine what the dinner portion is like!! Sushi is always good....its not as good as Yuraku over in Fox Chapel, but this place is cheap and fresh. You cant beat it for the price.
(4)Muriel H.
It made my day when I found out this little spot was nearby! If you do not look closely, its easy to miss! The Kani Karaage (deep fried crab *tempura*) is amazing. All of the the rolls are amazing. I have had all the big maki rolls and they equally satisfy my palate. My most favorite if I had to choose are the First Sight of Love, White Fish Tempura, & the Snow Mountain Dragon Maki. This establishment also delivers & they are speedy! *ADDED BONUS*
(4)Jeff Z.
This place have been around for over 10 years now and I have noticed that their Sashimi (raw fish) are always fresh. I also love their Gyu and Oyako Don, it's delicious.
(5)Elisabeth H.
A sushi place on the way home, within walking distance to my apartment, and delivers? Why haven't I tried this place sooner? The reviews are very mixed..and like most state the look of this place is deceiving it is not decorated like many other sushi places in that modern clean look. It is very simple inside. The prices are great I got: -Spicy Crunchy Tuna Roll -Spicy Crunchy Yellow Tail Roll -Soft shell crab roll -Philly Roll -Ocean Roll -Edename -Shrimp and vegetable tempura meal -Japanese noodle soup with chicken All for $48, which compared to most places I feel is really well priced. This being my first time trying I knew it would be a learning experience, there are items I would order again and some I wouldn't. Spicy Crunchy Tuna Roll was almost shredded tuna like some places use which I am not a big fan of. The Spicy Crunchy Yellow tail was good and I will be getting that the Philly Roll, and the soft shell crab again. I wasn't overly impressed with the soup or any of the other rolls, just nothing special. I will however be trying Rainbow Sushi again I am sure due to the relative closeness to my apartment and my almost always inevitable laziness...
(3)Archie M.
I've been going to this place since 2000. A bit overpriced on their sushi in my opinion. Two pieces for like $4.50. Sarku has better prices. But really good sesame beef combo.
(3)Donna J.
The sushi is great. The lady at the counter is rude, but I just ignore her.
(4)Thien M.
The lady that works in the front is really rude and do not have any customer service. I have been going there for years but since more Sushi places are opening up, I don't have to deal with that anymore.
(1)Lisa N.
I'm still a fan, but the last 2 times we picked-up an order, we did not get miso soup. Apparently, it is only served when you eat-in. How much does miso soup cost that restaurants can't include with take-out orders? So strange!
(4)Chaz C.
The guidon is good and the shrimp tempura is the only food reasons I tend to pick this place.
(3)sonia g.
FOOD: Don't let the fact that this place is so affordable and casual mislead you. Their sushi is really good. Always fresh, always tasty. Their hot entree dishes are also delicious. DECOR: I've been going there for years and this place is always clean, and the staff is attentive. The decor is cozy with tables large and small. It's a good spot for a big group meal and also good for a quiet lunch alone.
(4)Val V.
Dragon Sushi is highly recommended. Sesame Chix w/Rice is a regular Favorite of my family. Any Entree comes with Miso Soup and Salad. Been a regular customer since 2003. Sherry the owner, always remembers us and service is great. Btw, they have great promotions in front of the menu e.g. Spend $20 get a Gyoza free, spend $30 get a Chix Fried Rice free. Can't go wrong with this one.
(4)Rick L.
I eat out for lunch every day and visit Rainbow Sushi at least twice per week. Their lunch specials are affordable and expertly prepared. The fish is always fresh and delicious. It is a family establishment so you know they put their best into it. They are all so friendly, they make us feel welcome.
(5)Paula N.
Ah, when I want good cheap sushi i come here. At lunchtime, for $7-$8 you can get a chirashi -- a bowl with a generous 8-10 pieces of raw fish and some rice. They also have a sushi lunch with 8 pieces of raw fish, again only $7-$8. Definitely a couple of bucks cheaper than a lot of other places, very generous with the fish, and pretty darn good. They also have udon and hot bowls of home-made noodles. Bonus: Popeye's is right next door so if you feel your sushi lunch is too healthy, you can pop in to Popeye's and get a biscuit to get your daily intake of fat. Yummmm....
(4)Matthew B.
I generally avoid strip mall Sushi places as they tend to scream grey tuna, mushy salmon, and a queasy stomach, but I tried it because of its relatively good reviews on Yelp. Rainbow Sushi only further reinforced my no sushi in strip mall policy! Women behind the counter was slow and apparently more interested in the delivery orders than the dine in customers. Standard selection, with nothing that you couldn't get in the cold bar of the Shoppers Food Warehouse next door, just double the time and three times the price.
(2)Jamie B.
I like this place, although I confess I have yet to have any sushi. My girlfriend and I both like their udon soup (beef, chicken or seafood -- mix of vegetables with an egg dropped in) and she's had the eel-on-rice, which was good. The place isn't very big, but it's clean and there's a small bar you can sit at as well as a handful of tables. They also have the cleanest bathrooms I have ever seen. I think it's replacing Pho House for my favorite place to get some sort of soup in noodle form around Germantown (although Pho House soup is great, too, I think I like the Japanese style soup a little more... I think it's the egg...) Anyway, their menu is about 90% sushi, but so far I've been enjoying their other stuff too much to try any.
(4)Latrycia F.
OMG... I love this place! The sushi is amazing! I ordered the seaweed salad, shrimp tempura roll, California rolls, kanikama rolls and the eel! Man! Was it totally deeelish! I must say the face that they deliver is totally awesome! Rainbow Sushi will be my go to spot for Sushi..well at least one of them! LOL!
(5)Howard R.
We live within a mile of Rainbow Sushi and go there frequently. The sushi is very good, and the service is great. We usually sit at the sush bar - which is sorta small - but gives us the opportunity to watch our sushi being made. The prices are very reasonable as well.
(4)Jason G.
World class? No, but for Germantown you could do a lot worse. I have been 4 or 5 times now, and I have liked all the sushi items that I have had. The only thing that I didn't care for there was the fried goyza. It didn't have a great flavor and it was listed as an appetizer. I usually expect appetizers to come out first, but these were served last.
(4)Katie K.
I have come to this restaurant quite a few times. It is a good local option to get your sushi fix. I usually get the spicy tuna crunch roll and the Alaska roll (salmon avocado) I have never tried any of the dishes. This is not my first choice place to get sushi, but it is in my top five. The female who works there is very attentive, and the service is pretty good. I hope to try the udon soups. I wish they had a small spider roll... the big one isnt as good.
(3)Lisa B.
Not to name drop, but I've been to Japan, so I've had good sushi. In fact, we used to go to the sushi-go-round in Kyoto and the best thing besides the sushi was how all the sushi chefs would yell hello to you when you walked in. You felt like Norm on Cheers. Anyhow, this sushi is fine and they are fast, but the woman cashier can't bother to smile or even say "thank you" after I just spent $40 on a to go order. Nope, we aren't in Japan anymore.
(3)Marcus N.
This place isn't bad at all. The sushi is ok, and the price is fairly cheap. I think Yoyogi might be comparable in quality and a bit cheaper though.

WARNING. WARNING. WARNING. **************HEALTH VIOLATION. HEALTH VIOLATION************* A friend and I decided to top by here because neither of us have been to this sushi place before. As we got there, its a small little restaurant next to Shoppers in Germantown. When we entered, as all reviews have noted, it was notable empty. The chefs were lounging on the chairs and over the tables and the cashier was as well; understandingly, it was slow and there as nothing to do. So as we entered, they didn't even really acknowledge us. I wasn't sure if we were supposed to sit at the teeny tiny table that had two setting set out but obviously could really only fit one person or the really big tables with 2 settings conspicuously placed out. I sat down at one but ended up moving to the other side with the bigger table because of the outlet to charge my phone and there was more lighting on the other side. As we sat, the cashier/waitress came over and asked us if we wanted anything to drink. We both selected water, which came out promptly but with no ice. She also gave us only one menu and walked away. I wasn't too sure what to do, so when she came back I asked for a second, which she then said was already at the table, but it was hidden standing up behind the plastic drink menu thing. We ordered the calamari appetizer (7.99) and the sushi boat (38.99 i believe). A little spoiled by the boat given at Yuraku, when it all came out on a plate and not a boat, I was a little disappointed but it wasn't much. The sashimi came out before the calamari did, but I didn't mind being it was only a few minutes in between. The sashimi tasted fine in pretty thick cuts. The calamari wasnt freshly cooked as I hoped, but it is what it is. The calamari was placed in a nice little oval plate. The lettuce and jalapenos were covered by the calamari. We continued to eat our food in peace. As we neared the end of our meal, we took a pause to just talk, and our waitress came over and began clearing our plates, but the calamari wasn't all done yet. We requested for her to leave which she did. But as I picked at the lettuce, I discovered it. ************In the dead center of the lettuce, beneath all the calamari, was EITHER a roasted/fried STINKBUG or a roasted/fried COCKROACH. It was disgusting. ******* (the only picture I took for the entire meal) To think, the bug could have been battered, and fried, and been even more hidden with the calamari or other food made me shutter. Initially I didn't believe that was really there, but my friend started picking at it and it definitely was a cooked stinkbug/cockroach. At this point in time, the waitress had left our check on the end of the table, and when I called her over, she then asked us if we wanted dessert, as if she hadn't printed out the check. I pointed out the fried bug. She picked up the plate, brought it over to the SUSHI CHEF (which had no part in cooking the calamari). He dug through the plate with his bare hands and I watched him pick up the bug. and put it back in. She continued to bring it to the back. She came out to the front seconds later, and took the calamari off our check, said "Sorry, this was the first time it has ever happened" and walked off. Understanding yes, I most definitely was not going to be paying for the calamari, but not offering anything off the rest of our check peeved me just a little. But I was too grossed out and wanted to leave ASAP. So we just paid and left. I assure you, I will NOT be ever coming back here again.

Understanding yes, I most definitely was not going to be paying for the calamari, but not offering anything off the rest of our check peeved me just a little. But I was too grossed out and wanted to leave ASAP. So we just paid and left. I assure you, I will NOT be ever coming back here again.

Do yourself the favor and get The Ocean. You won't be disappointed. This place is very solid and has been a reliable go to.

Great Sushi for the price.

I've given it a second chance...problem is they don't seem to care. Their kid has stuff spread out all over the sushi bar (see pic). How am I supposed to have a drink and eat my meal with this next to me?

Been coming here for well over 9 years and still the only sushi restaurant in Germantown I really enjoy. Reasonably priced for decent sushi and their dinner entrees are pretty good. Try the sesame chicken or beef!

My family has been going to rainbow sushi for years . The staff are quite but helpful, which I like. The food is great and I can always expect quality.

This place is great -- our go to when we want a more relaxed and cheaper meal than Yuraku. They have a wide selection and the sushi is very fresh. I'd recommend the sushi over the entrees, the sesame chicken was very dry. The place is usually empty and service is very fast.

This place have been around for over 10 years now and I have noticed that their Sashimi (raw fish) are always fresh. I also love their Gyu and Oyako Don, it's delicious.

I've been going to this place since 2000. A bit overpriced on their sushi in my opinion. Two pieces for like $4.50. Sarku has better prices. But really good sesame beef combo.

The sushi is great. The lady at the counter is rude, but I just ignore her.
(4)Thien M.
The lady that works in the front is really rude and do not have any customer service. I have been going there for years but since more Sushi places are opening up, I don't have to deal with that anymore.

I'm still a fan, but the last 2 times we picked-up an order, we did not get miso soup. Apparently, it is only served when you eat-in. How much does miso soup cost that restaurants can't include with take-out orders? So strange!

The guidon is good and the shrimp tempura is the only food reasons I tend to pick this place.

I eat out for lunch every day and visit Rainbow Sushi at least twice per week. Their lunch specials are affordable and expertly prepared. The fish is always fresh and delicious. It is a family establishment so you know they put their best into it. They are all so friendly, they make us feel welcome.

Yummmm....

LOL!
