I been to a lot of Pho restaurants in the area. I have to say this is one of the best. The price is in a good range and the food is great. They have the real coconut drink not the frozen one in the plastic container. I always taste the soup first as is. It's a good way to tell if the pho is great or not. If you are not into pho or if it's summer, they also have rice/noodle dishes that are fantastic. Not a lot of pho places have the Vietnamese rice dishes. The summer rolls are also good. The peanut sauce is not as strong as I would like it, but it is good for other people. Best part of all....... They accept credit card. FOR THOSE LOOKING FOR THE MENU. CHECK THE PHOTOS.

I love pho. I would eat it every day if it weren't so salty. But this is my FAVORITE place to get it! (way better than Pho 75 in Rockville)! The statff is always friendly and attentive and the prices are super reasonable for what you get. Jalepenos always come with, and are fresh along with the sprouts and limes. LOVE THIS PLACE!!!

Great pho, I always get the special (#1) which includes meatballs (which is nice since most pho joints offer them seperately only). The broth is nice, and the portions are generous. The service is good, I've never been made to wait long for my order. Overall great pho, very reasonable pricing, and good service. I'm a regular.

I am a PHO junkie.... I cant get enough of it. Since I couldnt get to my beloved PHO house I settled for this location. Service is good. Nothing fancy. I got the spring rolls! But I forgot to ask if it had nuts! Usually I get like a Hoison type sauce for my rolls. Once I dip my rolls in the sauce my tongue and lips begin to swell..I looked like I just got botox and looked like that girl fish from Fishtales. I was like oh no Nutsssssss! But I was okay thanks to that bendryl and co. The broth isnt as rich to my liking. It was bland and kind watery. The garnishes are scarce. I like my soup filled with veggies and meat! I like lots of cilantro and spring onions. The meat was ok... but I had better... I like my brisket thick and a lil fatty not chunks of meat that looked from a can of dinty moore...More than likely, I probably wont return unless they woo me over with a better stock and dazzle me with tons of garnishments with thick and juicy meat.

The pho and the spring rolls are good here. Prices are good. Service is very fast. Good hours and plenty of parking in front. It is never crowded. Decor is nothing fancy.

I give it 3.5 stars and it's just a step below pho nam on shady grove road. It's cleaner, a bit more expensive but not quite as tasty. But it is good. I got their large #16.

We have found our new pho spot. Broth was great, meat was of good quality, and their portions were perfect. I'm crazy for Bird's homemade lemonade. Had to get one for the road. My picky 2 year old loved the lemon chicken with rice. The broth it comes with was what my toddler couldn't get enough of. And service with a smile and constantly checking in on us. Couldn't ask for anything else.

Absolutely delicious pho soup. We've made the pho rounds in many a city, and their beef pho is way, way up there on the list. Ingredients were fresh (there's an Asian grocer right next door), and service was excellent.

Really enjoy Pho 81. Currently taking some classes at Montgomery College and come here frequently before my evening class. Price is perfect, I would order the small bowl unless you are super hungry. The small bowl comes with PLENTY of food. The staff is always helpful and the service is fast. If you are into Pho you can't go wrong here. Enjoyable every time. I've tried several of the meat dishes and vegetarian dishes and have never been disappointed!

I only ever come here for Pho, so I can't comment on anything else that they serve. I typically order the special, which comes with "everything" - tai, chin, gau, gan, sach, bo vein (aka rare and cooked sliced beef, fatty brisket, tendon, tripe, and beef meatballs). They're pretty generous with their meat portions. The meatballs are just okay but the fatty brisket is *delicious*; I was actually surprised by how flavorful the most recent time I was here. I can never finish a small bowl on my own. My mom and I have even split a small bowl for dinner, but we're two small Asian ladies, so take that with a grain of salt. The broth varies from day to day. Sometimes it's good, sometimes it just isn't up to par. I don't think they use MSG - I never feel that sodium crash after a meal - but they can veer on the salty side. Herbs are fresh and traditional; you can asked for the bean sprouts to be blanched if you prefer them cooked (Northern Vietnamese style). They accept credit card, but it's cheaper if you pay with cash. Bathrooms are clean.

I stopped in the other night with the hubby to warm up and ordered a nice steaming bowl of pho. I ordered pho #7 and found it to be delicious. I liked the broth and the meat was very tender. I ordered the small bowl and still had a little leftover to bring home. Their portions are generous and they offer quite a bit of meat in their pho! I imagine the large bowl would make for a delicious lunch of leftovers for the next day. To go with my soup, I ordered the spring rolls. Two pieces arrived piping hot straight from the fryer. It came with the dipping sauce (do chua) with thin strips of carrots and daikon radish! Slightly greasy but still tasty. I've certainly had better but this was definitely good. The service is minimal with what appears to be just two people working the front of house - seating people, taking orders, busing tables, and handling takeout orders. They were friendly and were sure to check on us shortly after we received our food. However, be sure to signal them over when you want your leftovers wrapped up and when you're ready for the check because these guys are multitasking big time. The dining area is clean and there was plenty of seating that evening. They have plenty of 4 tops and larger tables for groups. However, the seats themselves were very uncomfortable. They have a television in the front of the restaurant airing CNN so depending on what's playing (virtually non-stop), it can be a bit unappetizing. Overall, I'm happy with my experience, and I'm glad we stopped in. The food is a good value, and I'll be sure to visit again to try something new.

This place has stayed consistent if not improved over the past few years. It is really a solid bowl of PHO with late hours and friendly service. They still seem to give you a larger serving of meat then most places which I appreciate and I believe still have a full menu (I just get the soup). There is a big fish tank in there that my kids like to look at. :) Only negative here is the tables are usually covered with dirty dishes and they have to bus when you get in. It's not out of the ordinary to find only two tables occupied but find the remaining 12 all dirty. That's a difference over most PHO places where the tables are cleaned immediately after someone leaves. Only a slight concern (and reason this is 3 instead of 4 stars) because if they don't keep the front of the restaurant tidy, what does the kitchen look like? Appears to be usually 3 staff here. 1 in the kitchen and 2 taking orders & delivering food. When the tables are dirty they are usually up there on their smartphones so it isn't a manpower issue. They do clean them quickly when you walk in. Rather than having a credit card minimum, they give you a discount if you pay cash. Still, good food and nothing stops me from coming back.

I realized the last visit here 'twas the time my dad passed away (rip). And now we're back after my mom joined him (rip). This place moving forward has a comforting spot in mah belly. Oh, and apparently my bro's friends choose Pho 81 when in this area. Good choice. Good location - on opposite end of Great Wall supermarket (GW) so there's plenty of space. Their small sized pho bowl has more rice noodles than the average small of other MoCo pho spots. I can feel the extra stretch from my pixie pants so it's real. Nice bouncy noodles with familiar aromatic flavorful broth. Customary sriracha, jalapeños, basil, and bean sprouts complete my #12 eye round/fatty flank (no lime). The 2 spring rolls were classically greasy as hell so yes, they were tasty. I'm glad BroS shared the rolls with me (thanks for feeding me again, brah~ ^_^). Uber homey friendly staff. I'll definitely suggest Pho 81 for folks if on the northern neck of 355 towards Germantown.

Pho 81 is located near Honey pig. When you walk in, you can pick a table and the server will come to you with a menu. This is a clean establishment with decent food and service. Jasmine (hot tea) was pretty good. Pho was pretty decent with very little meat. I noticed they give you a lot of noodles but not enough meat. The ratio was off with meat and noodles. Egg rolls were A-OK, not as crispy. *Fellow yelpers, you can get 5% off your check when you pay with cash! Overall, this is a decent pho place. I can't say it's the best because I definitely had better.

The broth here is my favorite in the area so far. The small bowl is almost too much for lunch and probably just right for dinner. The staff will bring additional types of veggies, like cilantro upon request; otherwise, it's a giant heaping pile of bean sprouts, basil, a couple of lime wedges & jalapenos. Yum. The staff are very friendly and helpful The atmosphere is pretty much what you'd expect: simple, clean and comfortable; although, I'm told the bathrooms leave room for cleanliness. I've definitely recommended this restaurant to others - it's a favorite at lunchtime.

I stopped by here for a quick lunch to escape from work for a bit on a weekday. The decor was decent and the restaurant was clean. Service was provided by fully English speaking staff so I didn't have to speak the language of the motherland (even though most Vietnamese people think I look Korean and don't expect it). The broth, which is always they key component, was decent. It had the umami flavor that I seek when I want pho. Good thing was that even though their large costed ~$9, they gave a lot of meat and noodles. I have ordered large bowls of pho at other places and still had to order additional noodles and meat to feel relatively full. This place, even though the bowl looks smaller, gives you a decent amount of food for your large pho. Another positive: they accept credit cards! Long gone are the days where I have to go to the bank just to cure my hangover/satisfy my hot bowl of pho craving. I saw this artwork somewhere that said "Life without you is like pho without its broth." I wish someone would get me that. *cough hint hint*

Getting pho to go is never ideal. But when you are sick with a cold, you simply cannot dine in, sneezing every 30 seconds. There is no better medicine for a cold than pho! That being said, I popped into Pho 81, desperate for pho. I ordered flank steak, and a chicken and rice dish for my mom. After a brief wait, I was handed a package and began to leave. I was halted by an employee who stated he wanted to re-bag the soup separately. I thanked him and waited. When I got home, the pho broth was in a plastic container, but about 1/4 had leaked out into the separate bag and was just sloshing around. The rest of the items were fine. This separate soup package was resting on top of a now-squished styrofoam package of chicken and rice. I can't complain because the pho hit the spot, with all the extra items packaged (thai basil, sprouts, lime, etc). I will return, and will dine in this time!

i did not order pho so my review is for summer roll..?, #25 and thai tea lots of parking right next to honey pig and nearby yuraku (same shopping center) my friends order summer rolls? im not sure but its the rolls that you do not fry. it comes with fresh veggies and i think shrimp. it was so good! the peanut sauce. OMG addicted to the peanut sauce. def made it even better.. the thai tea is good! :) asked for no bubbles. came out quickly. strong tea taste. love it! my friend recommended #25 since i do not eat pho. i don't remember what #25 was but i got it with the noodles. they give you this sauce with carrots in it and you pour that sauce all in and mix it. the meat was delicious! wish there was more meat and less noodles. i think there was too much noodles but other than that it was delicious :) tasted fresh! also comes with 2 egg roll inside or it might have been one but it was cut in half (not sure cus i shared with a friend) :)

3.5 great pho. The staff is friendly, the place is clean and the flavor is great. I usually get pho to go and feel as if they don't give as much noodles as before but broth is pretty good. Right next to Honey Pig.

Drove over here to try a different location other than the usual one by my house, and wasn't worth the drive. Service was pretty slow and they don't even offer a vegetarian broth! Ordered #12, the flank steak and came out lukewarm but tasted decent. Overall it was really average, will definitely try another Pho.

I been to all the pho around here and this by far is my favorite, good costomer service, plenty of food, I always get the egg rolls also my favorite. If you like pho u should definetly check this spot out..

had the phone ga (chicken pho). hate to leave a bad review but it was really mediocre, so disappointed. I wonder if other reviewers have had good pho before? get yourself a pack of ramen noodles for a dollar and save yourself the trouble. or, if you go, don't get the pho ga.

Food is great. Staff is friendly. My boyfriend and I come here often and the staff remembers what we get so we don't even have to wait! Definitely the best pho in the area.

  • Dan P.

I come here a lot since it's right in my neighborhood. Their pho is pretty good, but not my favorite. They do have some other things on the menu that are delicious. I usually get pork with noodles (I think it's #24). Their pork is excellent. I wish I knew how to make pork like them. Another benefit of this place is that it's never that crowded so I rarely have to wait a long time to have my order taken

  • Michelle V.

Bad customer service and food is just ok. Ordered in store to-go and ordered the # next to pho, eggroll, and the # for dessert. Both realized when the total came out that the order was written down as 2 phos instead of one pho and one dessert. no big deal right? think again. cashier ranted at me for not ordering correctly for several minutes, then ran into the kitchen and screamed at the chef to stop one pho order, came out rant more, then asked another staff if she knows how to change the total charge on the credit card machine, then swore in viet under her breath while I watch mostly in silent in disbelief. overblown reaction, taking it out on a customer for a small misunderstanding - do they even care about retaining customers? won't be back after such poor treatment. average food not worth being ridiculed for. no sense of customer appreciation

Good pho -- clear, clean tasting broth and good ratio of meat and noodles. Small bowl is too small, be sure to get large. Fresh rolls with peanut sauce is unremarkable--they're both fine and I would order again. Normal pho restaurant decor and no waiting for a table. Staff very nice and friendly.

Love it! The PHO was great. I have only had Pho from two other places and I would return here all the time. It's great if u never had it and want to try it. I also would say get it if u are on a liquid diet. The both is excellent. Love it!

Been going here forever. I've tried other Pho places in the area and I also comes back to this one. Love it even more that they accept credit cards. Not sure why other Pho places don't do that.

This used to be my go-to pho spot but I think its competitors in the area are starting to outdo them. The pho itself is totally up to par- it has that nice, salty, complex broth and they give you lots of meat. I also love that they bring you a good amount of bean sprouts, mints, and lime. But this wasn't really my first choice. I tried to order the Vermicelli with grilled pork and egg rolls and any viet family would know this is a really typical dish. Surprisingly, they don't have it on the menu with egg rolls. When I asked for it to be added, they asked if I wanted one or two. I realized then that they were going to order it as an appetizer and add it into my dish which is totally outrageous to me! So they want me to pay for it as an appetizer+meal ($12), when I could order it as a set dish at another pho place for $8? Why would they do business like that? I was turned off by how they handled it and just ordered pho instead.

It is like all pho restaurants. The service is good, pho does not taste exceptional, but is still good. The place overall does not look very appealing, but like i said, it is pretty much like all pho restaurants. The price of drinks is unreasonable, especially with a supermarket and convenience store right next to it, so that is a bit bizarre. Overall the restaurant is good, in that the food comes out quickly, and tastes like ordinary pho.

    (3)
  • Sharon S.

I love Pho 81. The food is excellent, especially the Pho Ga and the Summer Rolls. The prices are very good for the amount of food you get and the service is quick.

    (4)

Soup really good and got a lot of pho for the price. Both summer and spring rolls are good. Can't wait to try other non-pho items...but I love pho so much.

Just had dinner at Pho 81 after a friend recommended it. We left feeling quite disappointed. The broth had an awkward smell and not as good as others we've tried. There is no such thing as table service. Once we were served, no one ever came back to clear our plates, refill our water glasses or provide us with a bill. We saw our server slicing jalapeños at a neighboring table, then manning the register among other things, then returning to his slicing without ever washing his hands. We bought two desserts to go. The worst part of the our dining experience was when we took the lids off the desserts only to discover they were spoiled and smelled like rotting produce. We promptly threw them out. We were severely grossed out by the entire experience and would never recommend this place to anyone.

We love this place. They have the best chicken (all white meat) Pho soup in western Maryland. If we do not get it for lunch while at work we stop by on our way home (Frederick) and pick up a large to go. The employees are nice and the soup is always the same...excellent. We enjoy the consistent quality and taste of their soup. Parking is good, it's never crowded, and the service is friendly and efficient.

this is the best Pho in Germantown or Gaithersburg. You must try there Summer Rolls there the the best

    (4)
  • Ranjini I.

Not the best Pho I've ever had but certainly the best in Germantown. The broth here is very rich and flavorful. The prices are about average however the last time I was there I ordered a large and small Pho to-go and they were the same size but of course, the large was more expensive. From now on I'll only order the small. The meat in the pho is tender and you get plenty of all the fixings. Although the basil is usually on the verge of spoiling with lots of brown spots. But they give you enough to pick through. The spring rolls are good but nothing spectacular. While there are definitely better pho places in the greater area, this is my go to place in Germantown. It's consistently good and close to home to quickly quench a pho craving.

Quiet little restaurant that is good for work lunches. The service is friendly and good, and the food is delivered fast. My friend's pho was delicious, and I'm very picky about my pho. I got the grilled pork with vermicelli noodles. It was delicious, much better than I had expected. I left really full and happy; the food is amazing. I definitely recommend this place and will be coming back in the future.

  • Linh L.

Decent pho that I wouldn't normally eat in California, but it's the only Pho place in Germantown...and its surrounding cities that is open past 8PM. I was missing home, and was just craving a bowl of pho. It hit the spot, but it doesn't even come close to savory pho that we get in California.

    (2)
  • Ing A.

I like their noodle soup Pho & summer rolls. Price is also very resonable. Very clean inside. This restaurant is casual, typical Asian cafe style kind of restaurant. That is why you will see a big Plasma TV when you walk in.

  • anh t.

they have a few other things on the menu. "com ga" is pretty good. Simple, but tasty. Expensive for half a chicken breast and a cup of rice

  • Shawna G.

Upon entrance, seeing the LCD plasma TV with the zesty dance videos, didn't give me great hope. After being seated, ordering the typical #9 and and the ginormous bowl being placed in front of me, one sniff of the broth brought back some ray of hope. The broth was semi-flavorful, the meat sub-par. All in all, when in Germantown craving pho, Pho 81 will probably be my spot. If I'm not in Germantown, I'll be hanging in, I must say the state with better Pho than Maryland.... Virginia! There, I've said it to all that are listening... you know who you are as I hang my head in shame.... Virginia has hands down, superior Pho... done.

  • Jen L.

I've heard mixed reviews. Some people really like the flavorful broth while others find it sort of nauseating and overly filled with MSG. The non-pho soup items are very good and the spring rolls are delicious. Personally, I thought the pho was okay - it wasn't the best I've ever tasted, but it wasn't too bad either. I felt tired after my meal.
