As far as persian food goes, the Moby Dick chain is spot-on (yes, I am persian). Some of the reviews below commented on the meat being over-cooked, the bread being burnt or there being tons of rice, but that's persian food. Persians don't undercook meat and even at well-done, you have to admit, the meat is marinated perfectly and still very juicy. I highly recommend Moby Dick's in general. The Germantown location has more seating than I've seen at other locations (i.e., Georgetown) and the service is decent (i.e., they do their job well without being in-your-face). It's not "quick" so don't expect it to come out like fast food restaurants, but then again, it's much higher quality and much healthier than fast food. I generally wait about 10-15 at the most busy times. So, if you have the time to wait, it's great food! Tricks: (1) If you like tah-deeg (i.e., crunchy rice), ask for it. They sometimes have some extra. (2) The family meals are a great deal if you have more than three people. It does come with MASSIVE amounts of rice, but hey, leftover rice is pretty good (microwave with a couple of drops of water). (3) Call in your order ahead...saves time.

Essentially you can order gyros, and wraps and various other items, or you can order a meat/kabob style to go with your choice of salad, rice, or bread then it comes with the yogurt. I suggest a combo (two meats), typically I will go with chicken and beef. The beef is seasoned really nicely, and the chicken as well as tasting good, isn't ever too tough. It's really all good, you get hefty portions. The hummus is tasty, really fine and smooth. The lamb, beef and chicken all equally good and well cooked. The rice and bread are both recommended, I honestly haven't tried the salad. This place is great, all Moby Dick's seem to be.
(5)Brian H.
The hummus is bland. The dressing for the salad is pure oil with very little flavor and the salad was iceberg lettuce with minimal toppings. The meats were overcooked and not well seasoned. The bread was the only decent part of the meal, and even parts of that were burnt. Overall, I couldn't have been more disappointed and will not return.

Like other Moby's - the one in Germantown is a great spot. I hope they keep up the good food and service!

If I can put no stars, I will give no stars. I LOVE MOBY DICK, BUT I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND GOING TO GERMANTOWN LOCATION. They peel of the sell by date and appetizers had MOLDS. Called in my order to pick up, my fault for not checking the sell by date, soon as I got home saw the MOLDS on the DOLMEH and KASH-O BADEMJAN, called the location right away, person immediately transferred me to the MANAGER without even me asking yet. Seemed like they expected that I was going to complain eventhough I have not told them anything yet. MANAGER WAS SO DEFENSIVE AND RUDE HE DID NOT EVEN LET ME TALK. His solution was for me to go back all the way from Rockville to Germantown and they'll give me a new one!

The lamb kabob was great but it had too little meat. It was delicious. Certainly not worth $13 bucks

Look up "horrendous customer service" in the dictionary and there is a photo of the manager of this place. I had read the reviews on yelp and figured I'd give it a shot anyway. I can honestly say I've never been charged for food, and left a restaurant without food, up until now. Bizarre story: they run my card, and seem to have an issue... the girl at the register is whispering something to the manager. Whatever, she seems cool with it, I go wait for my order. 5 minutes later she says, "I'm not sure if your card went through, can I write down your phone number and your credit card number, just in case it didn't go through" Huh? No, I reply. Have you never heard of credit card fraud. You've gotta be kidding, you want me to write my 16 digit card number on a piece of paper and then leave it in the store with you? I give her my phone number. So, the manager comes over, same story... wants to write down my credit card number, saying he's not sure it went through or not. I tell him just to run it again but he says he can't for some reason. He tells me if I don't write down the credit card number and leave it with him on a piece of paper, no food. I tell him of course I can't do that... at that point he dramatically yells to the kitchen "CANCEL order number (whatever)." I leave, after wasting 10 minutes of my life, with no food. And wouldn't you know it... the charge went through. So: 1) I was charged for food 2) they were rude to me and asked me to do something no intelligent person would or should do, write my card number and leave it with them 3) I left with no food! Here's what someone with customer service skills would have done - if you're not sure the charge went through, give the customer the food. If it didn't go through, you've lost a few bucks. Instead, they've lost a customer permanently, and hopefully many more customers if others here choose to stay away. Please, stay very far away.

I know why it's called moby dick! it's filled with "dicks " who's working there I agree with people sayin there's this 1 guy who is rude !! I think I found Waldo . He never smiles or greets customers ... And the service is slow it takes forever to get my food even if I'm ordering something small... I ordered a sandwich the bread was burnt . I kind of figured they had my sandwich in there for a while . Would I return again ? Yes because it's convenient .

Food is always tasty ,you can't go wrong with Persian food, everything in the menu is good. Tonight I am trying Mediterranean salad with chicken it's a new item in menu .
(4)Angela L.
I love the kubideh player for lunch. The meat is seasoned well, the salad is light and flavorful, the rice. .oh..the rice! Yum! Let's talk about the bread. One word. Delicious. I am going to buy some baklava one day. It really does look good.

I used to love this place, that is until I talked to the manager about some bad (rancid tasting) beef I had bought for my kids. His offer to me was either a $2 refund off of a $12 meal or a replacement beef kabab. I basically told him if I took him up on the $2 refund I would be paying $10 for rice and bread so I asked him to give me a replacement at which point he refused (backtracking on his original offer) telling me the replacement would taste exactly the same and wouldn't do it. At that point I said look just give me chicken instead then. The manager told me I would have to pay more. I asked him how much the chicken combo was, he told me $9. So wait, I have to pay you MORE for a dish that costs less?? What???? A lesson in frustration and what NOT to do as a restaurant manager. I'm completely gone from this place forever. Edit: Reading the other reviews this shouldn't come as a surprise. The manager is a dick.

I love this place!! The rice is always tasty and flavorful. The younger guy at counter...a hottie, always hooks me up with extra rice or bread. I love, those kubideh kabab I think it's number one on the menu. the salads though A lil plain at times is always good because the have this vinaigrette dressing that they use that is semi sweet, which i love. I love the semi grilled tomatoes too, and I always get a extra on on the side on the DL. The service is slow but you are getting quality food. I always get fresh food off the greaser. There lamb chops are so so...it tend to be a tad dry but that's what the hubs like. I suggest placing a phone order A head of time, as you will play the waiting game here. Make sure you are clear on the phone with your order and when you get there double check because when you don't is more than likely you will have, something wrong with your order.lol
(4)Denise L.
This place is clean, the food is good and the service is fast. This is one of my fave Moby locations but I'd have to warn against the lamb. If you stick with chicken you're in the clear but the lamb here is awful. If you're in the area and looking for a quick bite to eat, Moby's is it.
(3)Eva O.
Pretty empty since I went in the middle of the week at an off time. I am not super familar with Mediterranean cuisine and the menu doesn't do that great of a job describing what the dishes are. But I do like that at the counter they have pictures for you to see. So I stayed shy and did my usual gyro platter. Kind of unenthused by it...salad was too lettuce-y and not enough dressing. I like crumbled feta cheese dispersed in my salad and instead there were 2 awkward blocks sitting in the corner. I'm also used to places that serve the salad with grape leaves so I was a little saddened without it. I guess in place of that they put a jalapeno pepper which I prompty tried and DIED from. That's saying a lot since I usually love hot stuff. The rice was too much white rice. The gyro meat was probably the best part- really tender and tasty- but also oily, which soaked into the pita bread it sat on top of. Oily, soggy pita yay. Somewhat redeeming qualitiy was the service- this isn't a fancy sitdown obviously but the guy behind the counter was pretty attentive. He brought my food out to me, tried to engage in conversation and brought me rubber bands to tie my hair up. That and prices/quantity were fair. I'd come back for my gyro fix but really nothing to rave about.

No frills, not the fastest, food was good. We were three to eat after a movie. My friend's veggie cheese sandwich, had very little cheese on it. My meal, a ground beef kabob with rice was good, nothing special. My other friend's lamb platter was the best of the lot and the lamb was very good. Ok, once in a while.
(3)Jennifer K.
Not the fastest fast food you'll ever come across -- but let me tell you: the swordfish kabob is awesome. It was grilled to delicious, tender, flavorful perfection! & The rice... ah, the rice. Buttery & addictive. The hummus is great, too. I've eaten at various Moby's in the DC region for years & never ventured past the chicken or lamb kabobs and the occasional gyro platter. I've eyed that swordfish offering plenty & man, am I so glad I finally tried it. De-Licious.

This is one of my favorite places to eat in Germantown. First of all, the service is very friendly for a fast food type place. I mean it isn't really fast food but there's no table service. But everybody there seems friendly. I guess it's a Middle Eastern hospitality thing. It really does make a difference and I wish they were a sit-down restaurant so I could leave a tip. Second of all, the food is great. Starting with the complimentary bread they give you. It's soft with crispy edges. I could eat it all day. The portions are huge. You gets lots of rice, salad and meat. Try the kubbeh (sp) combination. Actually, try everything. You won't reget it.
(5)Roshan F.
Excellent service and quality kabobs!! Two thumbs up! The hummus is the best I have ever had and they make the pita right in front of you :)
(5)Faisal G.
Terrible service. Avoid this place. The server literally yelled at me to get out of his way. Go here only if you want to be aggravated.

I've always go to Moby Dick's in Shady Grove and ask for extra half bread and they always give it to me. I was around Germantown to run some errands and stopped by here. When my order was ready, asked for extra half bread as I always do. Heavy set bald guy seemed to be annoyed by my request and without even look at me throw my bag on the counter and said: "that's extra". He didn't even wait for my respond if I want it for extra or not and jumped to the next customer, who was Persian and they start spoke farsi. the guy (customer) opened his bag and said something to him in farsi and he immediately took his bread's bag back, added bread and put it back in his bag without charging him (I know that because they shook hands and he left!). I don't know if it was because he was Persian or he was his relative or friend. Whatever it was, I felt so bad. Sometimes a little common sense and courtesy will go a long way, especially if you're dealing with customers all day. I will never return to Germantown's location again.
(1)Lillian O.
This Moby's is closest to our house and is easy for take-out pick up. We don't usually have any issues with our orders, but ordering over the phone is a little stressful depending on who you get. Parking for pick-up can be dicey around busy times, but overall it's pretty easy to pop in and get the food. Falafel wraps are always freshly made and delicious! The hummus is delicious, if a bit pricey.
(5)Sharon P.
The food was great but the people are not nice the bald guy is so mean if you ask him it's like he can't hear you he was like just starring at you and won't explain or give any fucking idea about the food their serving!!! The bald guy is a fucking idiot!!!
(2)Bruce L.
No stars! The germantown location always has this bald guy working the register. I assume he is the owner. This... thing with a face should not be in the restaurant business, or any other which would require him to talk to people. I try to avoid this location (shady grove rd is great!), but didnt feel like driving tonight... that was a mistake! I walked inside the restaurant, and recieved my normal "what the hell does this guy want" blank stare. Ignoring that... i sat at the table, and waited for my number to be called. 25 minutes goes by, so i ask about it. Bald idiot says "that will be $25.25", and pulls my food off a storage rack. I respond "how long has my food been sitting there?". Bald eagle says "20 min". I say "you saw me sitting there waiting, and didnt say a word?!". Baldy spews "you should have asked sooner!". I shout "take that food, and stick it!" This is the first confrontation that i have had with this animal, but i have seen him chew out his coworkers/employees, and just act like an idiot to customers (including myself) for far too long. Unless you want this obviously depressed individuals bodily fluids in your food... i suggest you eat elsewhere!
(1)Kaye N.
don't get me wrong. the kabobs are awesome. but customer service is aweful. we called in our orders and was not given an order number. we called back to add orders and the guy that we spoke to was the same person who answered the previous call and denied that he did not give us a number( which was usually the last 4 digits of your mobile number). the second time we ordered the guy was so rude and not very pleasant to talk to as well. i MIGHT still order there but knowing who's gonna take my order, i may just go to another kabob place.
(3)Desheng L.
Lamb platter is the best choice. Both lamb and the bread taste wonderful. One change happened since last year is, the amount of bread reduced by half.
(5)Lee F.
New management SUCKS!. Ring ring. "Hello, thank you for calling moby dicks germantown how can I help you". - Moby "Hi i'd like to place an order, number ending ****" - Me as I already know they need ph. # "What would you like to order." - Moby. "I'd like 2 chicken platters, dressing and bread on the side". - Me, same order, for over 10 years(always get same thing at all mobys forever ago) "2 chicken platters, separate bread, separate dressing." - Moby, i specifically remember the way he repeated it. "Thanks see you later "- click Ok, so now my wife arrives to pick up our food and he gives her 2 gyro platters. She calls me and asks if for some reason I changed what I ordered and I explained to her that I placed the same order as always. Then the manager I guess asked for the phone because he was on the line after 10 seconds of hearing them argue. He then proceeded to tell me the difference between chicken and gyro, and told me if I wanted chicken I should have ordered chicken. Ok, now lets just stop for a second. He didn't even ask me if I ordered chicken or gyro and proceeded to tell me again the difference of the two. I then interrupted him and explained that as always, I ordered 2 chicken platters, and that I know exactly what gyro is, as I love it, but never eat it as its not healthy and as most people who know me, I am very keen on fitness now. I don't even eat the rice / pita as I avoid the carbs. He then TOLD me I ordered gyro. After telling him again I never order gyro ever and specifically ordered chicken he said fine, and again told me to order chicken next time instead of gyro. At this point I got mad, I told him that I ordered chicken and he needs to stop telling me I'm wrong because its pissing me off. - I really was pissed. (I had another incident where his phones couldn't hear callers and he'd hang up on me about 10 times, when I got there I told him the problem and he refused to hear it then yelled at me for telling him he had a problem) This was his same reply as he gave me then after he realized I wasn't going to stand being talked to that way. "Sir, you are the customer, you are here to give me money, why would I argue with you. My job is not to argue as you are the customer" He at this point realizes how much hes screwed up and he's holding up the line(my wife told me people were standing there amazed how he was acting) then he told me the dumbest thing ever. "Sir, yesterday someone ordered gyro, then picked it up and didn't like the look, so they wanted chicken. I just want to make sure you know the difference between the 2 so you can order correctly next time." He again insulted me over the phone for the last time. I was disgusted and pissed and my wife took the 20 out of his hand and left, as I could hear him through the phone yelling for her not to be angry and to come back. I will ONLY go back there if someone else answers the phone or else I just hang up. - If ever that is. Btw - James was the previous manager or employee and i'm not sure if hes there or not but he was awesome, would answer and be like 2 chicken platters today? Yup, he knew to keep the bread / dressing separate and even remembered my name. Sucks this new guy is ruining the business.
(1)Salma M.
The food is good for a kind of a fast food restaurant, they make their own bread right there in front you! The service is good they are friendly and polite!
(3)Lynn L.
I ordered from Livingsocial, so I got a good discount: $5 off to be exact. My husband and I decided to order the Moby's Combo iii, which consists of lamb, beef, and a choice of bread, rice, or salad. We chose bread. We ordered online on Livingsocial by take-out, so we decided that the pick-up time would be within 25 minutes. We came to Moby's by 20 minutes and the food was already done! The order came with this white dipping sauce, which was the perfect dip for the bread, lamb, and beef. My favorite was the lamb. I must have been really hungry because I ate it all up so fast and the meal was scrumptious at every morsel.
(4)Lorena B.
Unimpressed with this location. The older man at the register wasn't rude but seemed kind of grumpy, like he just wanted to go home and watch Persian Matlock. I decided to skip the usual chicken and got lamb kabobs but the meat was dry and overcooked. The rice and bread were yummy however, as were the charred tomatoes they garnish the rice with. I also noticed the pricing discrepancy between what's on the menu and what you're charged. Don't think I'll be back here.
(2)Erik B.
Great food and a lot of it. The gyro platter for lunch is almost too much to eat. I'm not a fan of the salad dressing as I thought it was too bitter for my taste. I would stop here again.
(3)Dan P.
Great food but I'm not thrilled with the service, and based on the other reviews, it sounds like we all have issues with the manager. One time he kept me waiting for a pretty long time while he talked to his employees. There was a line behind me and I had already been waiting in line for a while so it was a little frustrating. I was very tempted to get his attention and let him know he was keeping me waiting too long, but I always try to be patient and didn't say anything. That same time, I had also misplaced my receipt with my number on it when ordering my food. Even though he is the one who took my order, he wouldn't give me my food without that receipt thinking he would get orders mixed up. He was very rude about it and when I tried to explain I misplaced the receipt he interrupted me and said "Number! I need your number!" He was a real dick about it. It reminded me of the soup nazi from Seinfeld. I've only been back once since then and he also kept me waiting while he talked to his employees instead of just taking my order. I was a regular customer for several years but won't be going back if I have to deal with that guy
(2)Rashad M.
The food is good. As mentioned if you order with rice it does take bit longer. This location seems to always be busy.
(4)M F.
The food is good but not great. The service is very slow at 830. When I asked where my order was after waiting 15 minutes the guy told this is not Burger King and you have to wait. Well I waited another 5 minutes for a salad. The pita is burnt and the hummus is not fresh. Won't be back.
(1)Lee B.
Despite the lack of customers, meal preparation still took quite a while. The lamb kabobs bland, hardly tasted of the marinade and wasn't at all tender. Certainly not wait the wait that one has to ensure when eating here.
(2)L. W.
The best kabobs in the area! I always order Combo #2 with rice. The meat and chicken always taste freshly grilled, well seasoned and flavorful. The food is always hot and the rice is excellent. I love eating the pita bread dipped in the cucumber yogurt sauce. If you add feta cheese or butter in the rice it is amazeballs! Yes, one guy at the counter is really nice and one guy is grumpy but who cares when the food is fast and tastes great.
(5)Nick F.
I love the food ! I never had a bad meal the portions are large. Only thing is if you phone your order in you will need to check it before you leave. On two occasions they have left out either bread or sauce and be prepared for the Moby shits 3 hours after you eat. But that doesn't stop me from hitting this place up once a month
(4)Fenny L.
I recognize that we came on a Saturday at 2pm. Not exactly prime lunch time, so I knew things would be slow. But, I must know...HOW does it take 15 minutes to get the beef kabob with salad?!?!?!?! And then an additional 10 minutes after that to get grape leaves?!? However, food was super yummy, which saved them from a 1 star review. Also, I'm running out of steam (coffee admin has left for the day), so I can't be wordier then this.
(2)Droid B.
Ordered on Living Social and my wife went to pick up my order. She was greeted by a younger looking dude who was cordial and greeted her. He asked her what was the last 4 digits of the phone number ( to look up the order). She told him that I placed the order online (living social) and gave him the order number. He did not know how to look up an online order so he called this older looking Persian gentlemen. The older guy asked he "Is this a Living Social Order"? We said "yes". He said, " You have to wait" and left. She were not sure what that meant. I had ordered online 20 minutes prior to picking it up and it was almost 25 minutes since it was placed. Finally the younger guy asked herto wait and said he will go find our order. The older guy seemed very unfriendly and rude. Finally after 20 more minutes, the older guy came back and gave her the order. She got it back. Once we opened the bag , there was no bread. Also the Kubideh was not under-cooked ( not like they were hurrying up things). Called up the store and asked them about the bread. The older guy answered - said that online orders are like that. Then I said - we order all the time and Kubideh with rice always comes with bread. Then he said - OK, come to the store and he will give me half a bread. I figured, not worth the gas money to go back for the bread. About the uncooked meat - he said - that's how it's done. I said whatever and kept the phone.......and here I am writing this review. Love Moby Dick but SKIP this store. They are ruining Moby Dick's reputation. This was my first time at this location and never going back.
(1)Patricia R.
The person that works the front is rude and gets the easly gets confused with the order...this is the worst moby dick,,never had a problem with the other locations..
