Love Love Love!!!!! Seriously one of the best "family owned" restaurants I've been to. The owner is just the best! The food is always amazing and they are super accommodating! I am vegan and am super picky (yes I'm that person when ordering) and all of their staff makes me feel at home and comfortable. They will do anything to make you feel at home. Super fresh food and great options for everyone in your family!!! Personal favorites: -soup of the days are great: lentil is always amazing -masculine salad!! I get with no cheese -any of the pizzas they are always a go to, especially how they cook them in the oven mm yum -grilled vegetable sandwich is beyond unreal! The pests is amazing and it is LOADED with veggies Non vegans: -vegetable sand which, sorry it's just too good! -gnocchi with braised pork - fettuccine ai granseola (used to be my favorite!!) super loaded with crab and shrimp and seriously one of the best pasta dishes I've ever had (I'm not even a pasta person) Love Agrodolce and will continue to eat here :)

First off, the food was really, really delicious. The End. Seriously. I am finding that I am writing more and more 2 and 3 star reviews and I don't like it! Mostly because when I am spending $70 before tip, I want an incredible experience as well as the most delicious food. Walk in and greeted immediately by the bartender. She says the host will be right back and in less than 30 seconds, he rounded the corner. It was New Year's Eve and everyone is in good spirits! We were squished in next to a six topper filled with young adults. Was not a problem until they got up to leave and I was hit a couple of times by a coat sleeve. On the flip side, my friend was not spared as the woman sitting directly behind her actually pinned her in. :) Our server was Vianey and she was very sweet albeit very young and forgetful. I said I wanted to wait and have a glass of wine with my entrée and she walked off before my friend could order herself a glass of white wine. When the young lady came back, she ordered her wine and I decided that since I could not get Chianti by the glass, I was just going to have a Stella. The bread and olive tapenade was surprisingly good. It was more like a flat bread yet airy. My add a salad for $3 was very tart and the raw onions were painful. I asked for a glass for my Stella and after finishing my salad, I gave up and walked to the bar for one. The pork scaloppini was perfectly tender and the ragu of mushrooms were flavorful. Risotto was creamy and tender. The farfalle primavera was full of vegetables in a nice marinara. We were offered grated parmesan but again, sat waiting while our food cooled. By this time, I was done. I had tried engaging her and asking her for her opinion on which dish I should order. I complimented her on her recommendations. I could not get her to remember that we were sitting in her section. I have come to the conclusion that it wasn't just our server. While I was at the bar asking for a chilled glass for my beer, another patron walked up to the bar and asked if the restaurant was short on staff because they had been sitting and waiting for over 5 minutes and no one had even acknowledge them. Both of the servers were very young and were probably new-ish to waiting tables. If it wasn't closing time, I would have left a note with some helpful tips, but hopefully, as she gains experience she will be a lot more attentive. ps. I had the best trio mascarpone cheesecake. Vianey wanted us to leave but instead of offering me a box for most of my slice, I guess she expected me to just leave it for the trash. Maybe everyone else wanted the night off...but next time just close early.

We waited 10 mins after being seated...not one server came to say they would be with us or made eye contact. Five mins is my max. A simple courtesy wasnt given...we ended ip leaving. Seeing other reviews I see this happens frequently.

I'm so sad :( Since moving to VA last year, I didn't get a chance to eat here for a while. So when I came to the area again, I was actually excited to eat here again. Maybe it's because I had the food to-go, instead of dining in? I ordered the Gnocchi & Braised Pulled Pork and Lasagna for my fiance. Le sigh. Gnocchi had too much of a mushy texture (overcooked, obviously) and the braised pulled pork wasn't that great... I don't know what it was with the flavoring, but something seemed off... the lasagna was okay-- not that hard making lasagna anyway... I'll give it another chance later, maybe.

Enjoyed a few glasses of organic pinot grigio wine and dinner on the patio. What a relaxing experience! I ordered the filet mignon salad. The combination of feta cheese and couscous was amazing. Our waiter provided excellent service, and we ended up staying for coffee after our meal.

Agrodolce has easily become one of our favorite restaurants. The food is spectacular and the service is always friendly and excellent. The last three times I've been in, I've gotten the Penne alla Milanese because it is just so darn good. The portion is large enough that I usually also have lunch the following day, too. Bonus! I'm very picky about red sauce and find that in most places it's too acidic and bitter, but here it's perfectly balanced and delicious. My husband loves coming here because of the craft brew selection. It's surprising to have such cool, different beers at a little Italian joint, but he's found a few of his favorites by trying them at this very place.

I like going to local places with friendly staff. Agrodolce is an intimate little restaurant with multiple food options. As a vegetarian I've never had trouble finding an entree at this place. I recommend it to all my friends and come back often.

The food was excellent -- easily the best Italian cuisine in the area. The service wasn't as good. Everyone was very polite and sweet, but it took 15 minutes to be greeted and the staff forgot to bring us flatware and napkins until 10 minutes after our food arrived. Order the fried risotto balls!!! Awesome.

The pasta is fantastic. To all the 3-star reviewers with the unnecessarily harsh critique - get stuffed. This food is great.

  • Jason S.

Really good pizza. Good beer selection too but they have a bad habit of running out of the one you want, the minute you order it. Pasta is fine but I always leave feeling it should have been better. After much trial and error, I'd say stick with the pizza. The service ranges from passable to absolutely awful.

I'm pretty picky about my Italian food. Long time ago I would go here nd the food was simple and yummy. But recently I went back twice with my boyfriend. I'm not sure what happened. For the price it's horrible. Grilled cheese was tortured with butter and grease. Fried battered green beans in a salmon nicoise? Just terrible. Olives with bread impossible to eat. We won't be going back we agreed. Service was very good.

Now that we've discovered how delicious the pizza is, we are regulars! The service is spotty but consistently great food. Highly recommend the rocket pizza! I wish they would get a better selection of beers on tap, but the bar area is nice if you can get a seat.

Found my niche with this place. The pizza. The pizza is the highlight of this establishment. I got the pulled pork pizza(cant remember the name) but it was absolutely great. Thanks to the bar tender who suggested it after i told him i didnt know what i wanted to eat.

I have never actually dined in here, but I ordered takeout from her twice. The first time was via 'Waiter on the Way" one night that my lab was working late so we got a complimentary dinner from my company. We decided on Italian that night and I was craving pasta. I love seafood pasta and I came across Fettucine Granseola on their menu. It consists of jumbo lump crab meat, shrimp, onion, pancetta in a spicy vodka-aurora sauce. It was so good that night and maybe it was because it was late and I was starving but it tasted like pure heaven! I looked up the recipe to make vodka aurora sauce being the foodie that I am but it seemed like so much work since it is a combination of two sauces which both take a lot of effort to make so I decided against it unless it was a day that I was super bored. I decided to order it for lunch a month later and it was even better! I am a fan and plan on returning to this restaurant now that I am living in the area!

I have been going to place for while now and my wife and I love it! It has great authentic Italian cuisine and excellent service. They have wonderful entrees and delicious deserts! Every time we go we get a table right away ... Check it out.

Love this place! Wish I lived closer because I would eat here all the time. Pasta is awesome, meatball subs are delish, risotto is good, literally everything here is amazing. I loooooove Italian food, so I'm in love with this place. They always have really good specials too!

Very good food and is pleasant. Highly recommended! If you are into fine dining white glove service this isn't your place, but for a casual restaurant it can't be beat for Italian.

My daughter & I ordered lasagna yesterday & got very sick a few hours later...thinking food poisoning. We were up all night vomiting and our poor tooshes were yea...you get the idea right?! My beau had a different dish and he was just fine so I can only assume that it was the lasagna that did the do. Service was good & the atmosphere was pretty decent which bumped my rating up a star.

I'm perplexed.....really. Four stars on Yelp? I mean, certainly everyone has different tastes and palates so there's room for a difference of opinion. That being said....this is one of the worst meals, start to finish, that I've had in a very long time. Argodolce is located in a strip mall off of a major roadway in Germantown. Translation: use your GPS. It's a little hidden off to the side and while the restaurant sign is somewhat bright, you have to enter the strip mall to see it. The space is pretty small and not very well insulated. The decor is pretty basic although they do make attempts to jazz it up. The service is ok. There's definitely a lot of staff here, especially considering that there were only 2 or 3 occupied tables in the whole restaurant. The waitresses are pleasant but perhaps a little passive when it comes to acknowledging the obvious- this food is horrible. We ordered the Calamari, Baked Ziti and Gnocchi with Pulled Brisket. We also had complementary bread and oil along with a complementary tasting of the risotto. The bread/oil combo was atrocious. The flatbread was pretty dense and had no seasoning. The bread comes with a tapenade type of concoction that resembles chopped olives but tastes like nothing. I had to ask for olive oil but that even that couldn't save things. -The calamari tasted store bought. No seasoning, the batter was off and calamari was chewy. I even found a small object in the dish that looked to be some type of plastic. -My friend barely tolerated her Baked Ziti. She used every seasoning option available to bring it to life but it appeared that cheese was the primary ingredient in the dish, -My Gnocchi dish was embarrassing. First off, I did not expect the dish to essentially be a stew topped with gnocchi. The gnocchi had no seasoning at all and no cheese! The pulled brisket stew was also low on seasoning although the brisket itself was fairly tender. -It was a nice gesture for them to let me have a complementary tasting of the risotto but it also lacked seasoning and was not anywhere near as creamy as it should have been. I did send the calamari back and they took it off the bill. They also kept asking us if things were ok since I don't think I even ate a quarter of my meal. Ironically, I asked the waitress how the food is prepared and she was emphatic in saying everything is made in house. If that is the case....they may need to check their recipes, especially since their prices make sense for a high-end restaurant but this place is lower quality than Olive Garden! If there was a highlight from this experience it would be that my dining companion was getting checked out by two women who looked like they stole Bob Vila's wardrobe. Hey, at least someone left with an inflated ego and a smile!

I think their pizza is the best in Germantown. We love their pizzas, gnocchi, mussels, shrimp and grits. Friendly wait staff and we don't mind counter service in the afternoons. Their wines are lovely, and I don't get the bad reviews.

So underrated! Love their food from spinach beet salad to fried risotto balls; linguine clam pasta; fettuccine crab meat & shrimp in vodka sauce. They are a hidden gem in Germantown.

I have been here twice. The first time was about 2 or 3 years ago on a tragically bad date. The woman I was going out with raved about this place. I'm game! The food was marginal at best. My date went on to describe how she was a "foodie." I think when she said foodie she had visions of a discerning palate. As she described her culinary adventures foodie meant she just eats a lot. But considering how well the rest of that evening went - the food was the least of the problems! Fast-forward to 2014! My neighbors are raving about this gem of an Italian place in Germantown. Sounds good to me! As we are driving there, I realize where we are going. I am silently dealing with the PTSD flashbacks and decided to be open minded about the night's dining experience. There were four of us in out party this evening. None of us reported having good food. The server was attentive to our table. Almost too attentive. At one point while he was at our table...for a while...I found myself thinking 'don't you have other tables you can go visit now?' Fool me once - shame on me. Fool me twice - OK, my bad on that one. But they're definitely not getting a third chance.

I haven't really eaten here but my friends and I like coming here on Thursdays for drinks and appetizers ( their flat bread and olive dip they bring out in the beginning is addictive!) We go honestly because it's a nice and convenient location with a fun atmosphere with some good local bands/artists playing on the open mic on Thursdays. Decent service and good selection in wine and beer. Update: ate here with the boyfriend this past weekend and food was pretty good and portions were awesome! We shared the pork risotto and calamari appetizer and still came out with extra :)

I have never written a restaurant review before, but I am so dissappointed about this, I just have to do so now. We live right near this place and have been going for years. However the last two times we visited, we had bad experiences. Has there been a change in management? The reason I am writing is so these things can be addressed so we can go back! We ordered the following and I'll list the issue with each: Gnnocci: The gnnocci tasted like pure flour, no potatoes. Chalky. Ceasar salad: The anchovy taste in the dressing was so strong, I gagged. This is totally new there. We actually sent it back, and we never do that! Riscotto with mushrooms: It was not riscotto, which we all know is creamy and labor intensive, it was just rice with a couple small veggies mixed in and the mushrooms were rubbery. Something that was supposed to have broccoli raab: Regular broccoli. First off, don't put things on your menu you cannot or will not deliver anymore. Second, don't take shortcuts. Third, if your attention is called to any of these matters, you should have offered some kind of gratis subtraction from our bill. Highly disappointed Germantown diners who won't be able to justify spending our hard earned money there anymore. K&B

Came here on a Friday night with no reservations and got seated right away. Started with the risotto balls and they where amazing. I could have just eaten them and been happy. I then ordered the mussels and sausage with linguine. It was petty good but small portions. My wife ordered a pizza that looked amazing. Next time we have to try the desserts. Don't come if you are in a hurry it took a while to order and get our food. But it was well worth it!!!!

Excellent spot for pizza and lunch. We've never been disappointed with any of their items. The eggplant parm is especially good.

Some people go for the wood-fired pizza or warm bread with olive oil (bleh)- not me; I must say, although I'm usually not the spaghetti and red sauce type, I'm a huge fan of their home-made pasta. I usually get one of the specials on the blackboard in the lobby, especially if its a nice ravioli, or the squash and scallops risotto (or anything with their butternut squash!) I especially like the fact that they load up on good veggies in their sauces, although sometimes there is just a little too much going on in terms of flavors in one place (for instance, the shrimp and polenta appetizer - do we really need sausage too?) The duck, normally a favorite too, was once way too rare and I've been afraid to order it since. Also, the prices are high; if I get an appetizer or salad (I agree with a previous reviewer, a side salad should be included with most entrées), and a glass of wine or dessert, I can easily spend $35 without a tip, just for myself, and that means, unfortunately, my budget only allows for occasional, not regular, visits. The service can be spotty, but I think that's true with any restaurant nowadays- hard to find good help!

I'm giving Argodolce 4 stars based on the fact that this was my first visit and only had pizza. During my visit I had the BBQ Pulled Pork Cheddar, Mozzarella Pizza. I'm a huge fan of pulled pork but haven't ever has it on pizza so I had to give this a try! Now I must admit I was a little disappointed at first for the pizza had thin crust and I'm more of hand tossed to deep dish type of guy. Nonetheless I dug in and to my surprise the piazza was spectacular! Unlike a lot of thin crust pizzas the crust wasn't to crunchy and the pie overall was very flavorful and the pulled pork wasn't lacking texture or moistness and was cooked too perfection. I didn't drink during this visit but if you're a fan of craft beer as I am this is the place when it comes to craft beer locally for the have a great selection. I would recommend this place to friends and family and I see myself becoming a regular. Thank you Argodulce team!

Great place. I love to get take out from here and their salads are amazing. The option to have grilled chicken or salmon on them really makes it amazing. The often have a good selection of beers on tap as well. The wait staff is friendly though some of them are really young and inexperienced. No complaints here at all. Their location is tough to find, but it is in the corner of a shopping strip.

My husband and I love Agrodolce. We had the 2 best dishes we've ever had there last night - Fettuccine ai Granseola and Duck Confit (with asparagus instead of rapine). Both dishes were incredibly delicious! The shrimp in the fettuccine were cooked perfectly and there was copious pancetta. The smashed sweet potato was like nothing we'd ever had. We finished the meal off with their divine chocolate mousse. We will be back to order the same again!

This is a great lunch spot in Germantown it has a lot of pasta, pizza, and sub options. Everything here my coworkers or I have tried is delicious. It is one of the few places I have been where I love what I am eating but am also jealous of everyone else at the table because everything looks delicious. Warning: don't come here on a diet. Something that also impressed me for an Italian restaurant is the beer selection. Whenever I go to an Italian restaurant I am always disappointed by the beer selection (I usually get over it with the help of a few glasses of wine), but this place has 8-10 nice American craft brews on draft that make me wish I didn't only come here for work lunches. Also for all you Fed employees/contractors, I just learned today that your meal is 10% off if you show your badge. I am not sure if that is legal, but it does help this place be slightly more reasonably priced.

  • Lori D.

How on earth is this place getting 4 stars? The bread was fine. The caesar salad tasted weird. Not offensive, just weird. And the gnocchi were TERRIBLE. They are supposed to be delicious fluffy little delicate pillows of potatoey goodness; these were huge and tough and better resembled the crappy hard pillows you get on airplanes. Maybe the barbecued pork would have masked their awfulness better than the mushroom and veggie combo I had, but I doubt it. Seriously, the frozen gnocchi at Trader Joe's is a hundred times better than this, and that's not saying much. My friends seemed to enjoy the eggplant parmesan and the duck tortelloni, so that's good for them, and the lemon/raspberry marscapone cheesecake was delicious. But I'm not coming back here ever again. Like, ever. Oh, and as others have said, the building is barely insulated, so bring an extra sweater.

  • Steve T.

Had the eggplant parmigiana and it was great. The pieces of baked (or fried) eggplant on the bottom were soggy though, but the ones on top were good enough to overcome the net difference. The p2p (portion to price) was just right. The atmosphere was alright. It's on the corner of a strip mall, which has glass sides so you can people watch while enjoying lunch. Meal was good, but after seeing these reviews on Yelp, I should have given the pizza a try. Will have to come back and try again, and maybe bump the number of stars up, but 3 sounds just about right.

Nice little Italian restaurant in a strip mall shopping center in Germantown. Service was top-notch, very attentive staff. Would love it if they put a better lock on their woman's bathroom door. Never sure if it's locked or not when I'm using it. My friends and I come to enjoy the open mic on Thursday nights quite often. Enjoy eating and listening to the music. Especially love it in the summer when the music is outside and we can enjoy our meal with a glass of wine on the patio. Very relaxing! Love the round flat bread and olives. Very tasty. Another favorite is the tempura battered green beans. Love the Spinach and Roasted Beets Salad with blue cheese, candied walnuts with a Sesame-Rice Wine Vinaigrette. Their brick oven pizza and their many pastas are very good. We'll definitely be going back!

  • Scuro M.

This is one of my go-to spots. I've eaten here for years. I've had a couple of disappointments over the years, but overall it is a very reliable and consistent choice. If you come here for lunch, be aware that there is no wait staff. It is very informal. You order at the register and pick up your meal from the counter (in a manner similar to Panera Bread). It's a bit pricey for lunch (by my standards) but well worth it The dinner experience is definitely better. The wait staff is generally attentive and knowlegable. But the dining area is very small. There is some outdoor seating in a small plaza adjacent to the restaurant. But keep in mind that Agrodolce is in a very busy strip mall, so if ambiance is a primary concern, you may choose to look elsewhere. The chef at Agrodolce clearly tries to come up with original creations. And, overall, he does good work. If you are looking for traditional comfort-food Italian cooking (i.e. spaghetti, no-frills lasagne, fetuccini alfredo, etc) this may NOT be your cup of tea. Note that some of the dishes (e.g. the mezzaluna ravioli) while absolutely delicious, are served in very small portions. So if you are expecting belly-busting American-style servings you may leave hungry. All of the pasta dishes I've had at Arodolce have been excellent. I particularly like their salccicia (spicy) sauce. The grilled meats are generally good, as are the risotti. The gnocchi dishes are nice as well, but I come from a northern Italian background, so I prefer my gnocchi to be a little more reslient and I'm not accustomed to eating them in a red sauce as I know many Americans are. The wine list is good, with half-price bottles on Mondays. Overall, Agrodolce is an excellent choice. The food is solid, tasty, "gourmet" Italian. The major negatives are the strip-mall setting and the cramped dining area.

No wait on a rainy Saturday night. Service was nice. The tempura fried green beans were very good, more than enough for two people! Penned alla Milanese was good I would order again but not with the chicken. The chicken was dry. They were very accommodating about my dislike of mushrooms. The bread and olive tapenade was very good. Would have given 4 stars but when we were putting our left overs in the boxes they started clearing the dishes. Next time wait won't rush us. You could have placed the food in the box for us then taken the plates away. I do like the quaintness of the restaurant.

  • Luis B.

I'm giving them 2-stars because of the quality of the food. We ordered a 4 cheese pizza and spinach & artichocke pizza. We were so disappointed because the pizza was dry and had no flavor.

The menu here has a pretentious identity crisis. Pulled pork and duck confit at an Italian restaurant? That's like going to a locksmith to change the brakes on your car. Anyhow, I had the calamari, my sister a rocket pizza, while our friend had a vegetarian pizza. Everything was bland, under seasoned, and honestly, an insult to Italy. The service was average and everything is overpriced. Oh, and I have to drive by their atrocious looking sign, that looks like it was designed by a 13 year-old, every day. What a waste of a great location.

Nice little Italian place on the corner of a busy shopping plex.....who would have "thunk" it?! I always get the linguini frutti di mare as I absolutely love seafood. My sorority sister makes sure that she eats here EVERYTIME she comes to visit me... She enjoys the penne alla Milanese. Pretty decent wine selection. Their happy hours are the truth! Beware the place is really small. So it can fill up rather quickly. I think their bar only had like four or five chairs (so it's a pretty intimate space).

Agrodolce is easily one of the best restaurants in Germantown! I have been eating there for years and have yet to have a meal I didn't love! Penne alla Milanese is easily one of the best pasta dishes I have ever had! The lunch counter service is very fast and convenient with the steak salad being my favorite! I have a short list of places I recommend and Agrodolce is on the top.

My grandfather always ordered plain vanilla on his first visit to a new ice-cream shop. His reasoning? You can't truly judge the quality of the cream if it's covered up by extra flavors and fillers. I've always followed the same mentality when it comes pizza: a first visit warrants some delicious, simplistic Pep & Cheese action. Now, some people might say "If you're going minimalist, why not plain cheese?". Well, I will tell you. Pepperoni is to pizza what diamonds are to a tiara: without it, you've got nothing but a boring casing. These crispy discs of deliciousity are the crown jewels of the pie. Also, how a pizza joint executes their peps is a huge point of contention for me. Any spot that places those glistening morsels of meat UNDER the cheese: you are disowned and exiled. The point of this thinly sliced charcuterie is to adorn the pie with a halo of spicy crunch, not abandon it beneath a canopy of cheese to wallow in it's own sogginess. Agrodolce does pepperoni right. Which is good, because their perfectly-textured crust and zesty sauce deserves nothing but the best peppy bling. Delicious, piping hot pizza fresh out of the brick oven, in a charming yet relaxed Mediterranean venue: what's not to like? By far the best pizza in the Germantown/Gaithersburg area, and I'd go so far as to include it on my personal list of faves. Well worth the visit.

I come here every couple months and it is always an excellent experience! The appetizers are delicious and their bread is amazing! My server David was very attentive and his suggestions were great. Its always a pleasant experience and my service is always perfect I definitely will be coming back soon.

I love this restaurant mainly because of the excellent service David provides. He is always very attentive and makes sure we are very well taken care of. Excellent food and wine selection. I've tried a lot of different meals very hard to pick a favorite one, most have been recommended by David. He has never steered me wrong. :-)

It's alright, nothing spectacular. Sat us down pretty quick on a Saturday afternoon and quickly brought us water and bread (with chopped olives). I had the penne with sausage and mushrooms while the SO had lasagna. Wait wasn't too long for the food, which is good. However, lasagna was only kind of warm in the center, and a bit too much cheese all over for our taste. The penne was a bit on the sweet side but overall ok. Maybe we should've gotten their pizza...

I visited Agrodolce for a Thursday open mic for the first time, & to have dinner. I checked their menu online ahead of time. Great atmosphere, the server was attentive & superb. I started with the soup of the day, a broccoli puree--totally delicious. I followed this with a tasty vegetarian white pizza; my only complaint is the fresh spinach was a bit too much, so I removed some so there would still be some "pizza" left there. The row the open mic was held in is a bit narrow in construction; next to it is a large outdoor patio that would be great for warmer days. Although the trip is a haul for me, it was well worth it. Will return there when I'm in that neighborhood.

I visited this place many times. The food was decent. I like that it's authentic Italian and not all Americanized. But a year ago as I was sitting at my table a roach crawled on the wall besides me! I expressed my outrage to the waiter and he was not sure what to say. When I shared my experience with a friend she said the same thing happened to her!!! I can't believe that a nice establishment like this wouldn't take care of this problem they have. As far as I know roaches are a sign of dirt. I prefer to spends money on establishment that take the time to be clean both In front of the house and the back. - Disgusted

Pizza! I'm in love with their pizza. So far I've only had the Manhattan with pepperoni and the Four Cheese. Both pizzas were perfectly thin and crispy. The crust was buttery and crunchy. The Manhattan was greasy just the way a New York style pizza should be. Pepperoni was crispy. Four Cheese pizza was melt in your mouth good but I think some people might find it a tad bit salty. I'm not complaining because I like my food salty but I know most people don't have as high of a tolerance level for salt. I will say this, the pizza is pricey. A Manhattan will cost you $10.00 plus 1.75 for each topping. Four Cheese is $11.00 plus 1.75 for each topping. The pizzas are not large. I'd say they are on small side of what you'd get as a medium sized pizza if you were ordering from one of the pizza chains. But hey, you have to fork over the money for quality right? I'm so happy to have found a pizza place that I love with the added bonus of it being very close to my home that I am more than wiling to pay extra few bucks. P.S. This is an Italian Restaurant not just a pizza place. But I haven't tried any of the entrees yet.

I didn't even know this place existed and I've been living in Germantown for over 7years! Great find! The fettuccine with roasted squash was by far the best I've ever tried. The lemon semifredo was good, and the complimentary bread was excellent and warm. Our waiter was not too pushy and really nice. Small place, great food, and excellent service. The best part is that there's no need to go to Bethesda or Chevy Chase to have a great late dinner. Great neighborhood gem.

Food was just okay. Boyfriend and I were disappointed with the wild mushroom gnocchi, which was more like a salad with huge gnocchi pieces than a filling pasta dish. There wasn't much sauce or any, rather sauce on it. The pizza however was pretty good. We got the bianco pizza which is their white pizza with Gorgonzola. We'll most likely give agridolce another shot. Probably just ordered the wrong pasta.

As a restaurateur of 22 years and owner of 4 restaurants in the Carolinas, I would have to say that my wife and I were very impressed with the food as well as Eric our server. I will recommend this establishment to anyone in the area. Btw, the review about the gnocchi and the insulation is asinine. Idiots should not be allowed on Yelp. I love the quaintness and beer selection. Glad we found it!

Agrodolce is a gem hidden in the corner of a Germantown strip mall. I usually swing by after mountain biking at nearby Schaeffer Farms and am always comfortable and satisfied with the food, service, and drink. More so now that they have added 20 taps of micobrewed beers. Not sure if it's true Italian cuisine, but they've successfully thrown together numerous tasty dishes. Last time I had the filet with mashed sweet potatoes and roasted endive. Seems simple, but the flavors were each distinct and cooked to perfection. The endive smokey yet crisp, the sweet potatoes warm and well-spiced, the filet was a little overdone, an error quickly rectified by my waiter. The owner is on premises daily which always helps, he is apparently knowledgeable in both fine wine and ales so the selection is always very good. Personally, I veer toward the Sangiovese and Stouts.

I really like the food, which is why I return so often. I would just prefer to have a waiter instead of having to listen from behind a wall for my order number. I go to a restaurant to sit down and eat, I don't want to have to get my own drink refills or listen for my order to be ready from across the restaurant.

As others have said, the service is a great ... though last time the waitress was extremely pushy. The food is nothing to be excited about. We ordered a couple of pizzas and they were tiny and bland. The toppings on the grilled veggie pizza were soggy and there was barely any cheese. There are so many other places with good wood fired pizza, don't settle. If you want decent Italian food you'll have to travel further than Germantown. Take the trip up to Mangia e Bevi in Urbana or bite the bullet and head into DC and hit up Filomena, Famous Luigis or Pasta Mia. If you need a quick fix and some good beer then give this place a shot but don't expect to be blown away.

Very good Italian restaurant in a strip mall of all places (then again, that just seems to be how this area is). Nice decor, a little cramped but not too bad, I can't wait for the weather to turn nice again and take advantage of their outdoor area. Service started out with a nice round flat bread served with tapanade that was quite tasty. My wife ordered the lasagna, which was excellent, and I decided to try something different and get the pulled brisket with gnocchi, a very unique and flavorful dish and highly recommended. Service was top-notch, very attentive, no issues. We went on a Saturday night and got one of the last tables, so reservations are recommended. My only complaint would be the fried calamari. Just wasn't done right, way too chewy and the batter tasted slightly off. But the rest of the experience was worth it, I can't wait to try the pizzas there.

Looked nice. I had a rail brand whiskey on the rocks. It was $9 for the drink. We ordered a Pizza. The crust was paper thin. I was told that was the italian style. The toppings were extremely thin. Oops, they forgot the tomato sauce. On exit, I mentioned the drink price. He said "this is DC" I said, no, this is Germantown.

Friday night My wife and I Started with calamari which was bland and overcooked. We had a Caesar salad, which was pretty decent. Simple, but decent. We had a pumpkin ravioli dish which was a special, it was good but very sweet and rich. We also shared a grilled vegetable pizza. It was good, but pretty basic and could've used more toppings. The best part was the free bread and olive tapenade that they start you out with. I'd go back, but I'm not in a hurry.

My husband and I ate here on a Saturday night, pretty late. After 9pm. It was great. Our food was delicious and hot. Our waiter was great. We ordered the special appetizer of the day: Zucchini Tempura. It was very good. My husband hates mustard, which was an ingredient in the sauce that came on the side. He asked for something else to dip it in, so the waiter brought out some Alfredo Sauce, which was DELICIOUS. I kept dipping my bread in it, too! For our meals, I ordered the Lasagna, which was fantastic. My husband had some Penne dish with chicken and mushrooms, which was also very good. They give you a lot of food, so we had to take 1/2 of our entrees home. We did, however, save room for the chocolate mousse, which was also quite good. Overall, this little place is really quite good, if you're in the mood for Italian food. The prices are reasonable, considering the quality of the food you're getting. We didn't have any alcoholic beverages on this particular trip. The only negative about this place is that it isn't well insulated, and can be a bit chilly. We sat in the middle section, which was fine. But, if they had seated us by the window, I probably would've asked to be moved. Not sure how they can remedy that. Not a huge deal. Again, this place is 4.5 stars. Not perfect because of the insulation issue. But, foodwise, it's A+.

My wife walked into the restaurant on 12/27 and made a reservation for 6:30pm on New Year's Eve, knowing it would be difficult to simply walk in anywhere on this holiday evening and wanting to spend a nice dinner out with our young children. Imagine our surprise to walk in at the appointed time to be told "We don't have your reservation." To add insult to injury, when we asked to speak with the manager or the owner, we were told by the woman that she would go get someone. 10 Minutes later, I walk towards the back to find this same woman on a personal call in the back, obviously hoping that we would have just left. I then ask her where the manager or owner are and are told that neither is there this evening After some further back and forth, and with no offers from this woman on how she might help or do ANYTHING!, we decide enough is enough and to cut our losses and never return. When we return home, I find 2 messages on our voicemail, the first at 4:28pm on 12/31 asking to reconfirm our reservation and the second at 4:42pm from the woman we spoke with at the restaurant I stating that there is an error and they would not have a reservation available at 6:30pm. (So, clearly they had our reservation somewhere as they had a phone number to reach us at! And it appears they were trying to take the easy way out of overbooking their own restaurant by randomly choosing who they would knock off the reservation book!) I put this out there in hopes that others see this and maybe think twice about frequently a restaurant that does not care to even acknowledge their mistake, offer an apology or anything and doesn't even think it important to have a manager or owner there on a holiday to ensure that everything runs smoothly! That is not the type of business that I care to frequent and I hope others feel the same!

Wonderful food. Really enjoyed the seafood risotto. Open mic is a great idea. Perhaps in a venue that has something to dampen the sound. There are tile floors, glass walls, and an open ceiling. - all working together brilliantly to make the sound amplify itself to the max. Perhaps having open mic begin at 7:30 instead of during the dinner hour. This might get more diners in for dinner and then they might stay for the music. It should also be advertised on the website that there is an open mic night on Thursdays. My group of four went for dinner not knowing this until we arrived. Had we known we would have come on another night so we could hear each other!

I really like this place. It's a unique establishment in an area filled with chain restaurants. The menu changes from time to time and that's a good thing. There is a definite sense of pride in the dishes they put out and that alone is worth acknowledging. The food is always good. My go to dish is the Fettuccine ai Granseola. It's linguine in a mildly spicy vodka cream sauce with jumbo lump crab meat, shrimp, onion, and pancetta. It's rich but fantastic. The brick oven pizzas are different in that the selection is broad and exciting - I've literally spent 20 minutes just trying to pick one. Nick is a great server. He's attentive and makes you feel incredibly welcome. I always look forward to seeing him when I stop by. The lighting is warm and the atmosphere is cozy. My boyfriend wishes the chairs were more comfortable but he likes the food enough to overlook that.

I really like going here. We've been 5 or 6 times now, both for dinner and at lunch. We've sat outside. We've sat inside. We've had a few different folks take care of us. Here are some highlights that explain why the place earned 5 from me. 1) Service is always spot on. From the greeter to the service at the table, we've never had a dud or a bum. I don't know if it's ownership/management's example or training, or if they just do a really good job of hiring friendly and efficient people, but Agrodolce always has servers who are on point, helpful, but not intrusive. Especially telling, I think, is the fact that some of the servers we've had really seem to take an interest in the business itself. 2) Good pizza- this is a must. I like their pizza. Is it the GREATEST OMG PIZZA moment you're going to have in life? Well, no, but it's solid and probably one of my go-to options for a good eat-in pizza in the area. The portion is doable for a solo meal with a slice or two of left over. 3) Don't nap on the entrees and main dishes. They have some really good food here besides the pizza. A favorite of mine is the appetizer shrimp and risotto. 4) The beer list always seems to rotate and seems to me to have a good selection for whatever style of brew you're in the mood for. Most recently, I was jazzed as hell to discover a vanilla porter I adore on the menu.

This place is very solid pizza/pasta Italian American place. I went here before prom in high school, and we thought it was the best fancy-but-not-pretentious place in the area. I think that says just about everything.

This place is totally a hidden gem in Germantown. We are always going to Bethesda for a nice dinner but tonight we were tired and wanted to try something close by. We had seen this place on an earlier trip to Jersey Mike's. We were very pleasantly surprised by the draft beer list. They have many microbrews on tap. I tried the flying dog dubbel and was just what I needed at the end of a 100F Friday. They came out with a huge piece of focaccia as the table bread with chopped olives. I ordered the seafood risotto and my wife got tri-colored tortellini. We were surprised to find the pasta was fresh. The risotto was excellent with the exception of the mussels being overlooked. But I had to ask for a spoon to get the last juice left on the bottom. The food was also steaming hot and fresh. Definitely a must try if you want to save yourself a long drive.

Two stars only for the food! If you want to go and drink the staff is very attentive but if you only want to eat and drink a nice glass of iced tea the staff will IGNORE you!!! There were 3 working the icy window where we were one of 3 tables and were totally forgotten! Guess they figure they will make more $$$ tips from the drunks! Love the veggie pizza though... Thin crust cooked just right! Kudos to the chef.

Came for a Sunday family dinner. Ambiance was decent but the quality of the food was very disappointing. Some of the entrees, you can clearly tell are assembled from frozen/prepackaged components, which they try to dress up with distasteful sauces and color with sauteed vegetables. Italian bread is complimentary and served with olive oil and chopped olives. I say chopped olives because that's what they were, as opposed to a tapenade which usually has some olive oil, anchovies and capers in it. Maybe that's being too picky for something that is complimentary. However, they had forgotten to bring us olive oil to dip our bread in. The waiter will suggest a salad to go with your entree, house salad or Caesar). Be mindful that the salad is not included in the entree price and will be an additional charge. What I didn't like is that the manner in which they make this suggestion may mislead some to think it comes with the entree (e.g. "And would you like a salad to go with that? You can have a house salad or a Caesar salad"). Friendlier restaurants are usually upfront about this type of thing (e.g. "Would you like to add a side salad to your meal for an additional charge of $?"). BTW, the dressing for the house salad was very salty and did not taste good. Arugola Pesto Pizza - the crust had good texture elements - lightly crispy on the outside, airy on the inside. Pizza tasted good, no complaints there. Rockfish special - rockfish served over shrimp linguine with a lemon butter caper sauce. Sounded good, but it was horrible. The rockfish meat was spongy and tasteless, and simply used a vehicle to deliver the sauce, which was very salty. The texture of the rockfish is the same texture you would expect if you were to thaw Tilapia fillets and microwave them. The shrimp also suffered from this. You can tell they come from the bag of frozen shrimp that one would buy at Giant. The packaging and freezing causes them to lose their robust shape and causes the meat to be chewy rather than tender. The preparation is the type you would expect at a bar/lounge, where a real Chef is not needed to prepare the meal. My guess is they simply: 1) Boil the linguine. 2) Bake the thawed fillet. 3) Do some sauteing - peppers, shrimp (from the bag of frozen shrimp), and sauce. 4) Assemble - linguine 1st, then fillet, and pour on everything in the sautee pan. It feels insulting to be served something like this that you know you could've done yourself much better at home, and for less $$. I'm a big eater and I hate to waste, but I could not finish this meal - I tried but I barely got halfway through it and could not bring myself to take it to go. This is like the fish that they would serve at Old Country Buffet, where curious diners would scoop them up the first time, but then never come back for seconds. Oh yeah, and the pasta was not al dente. Gnocchi - the gnocchi was thick cut and looked like scallops. Personally, I prefer my gnocchi to be smaller and have ridges, so that it can grab more of the sauce. Instead, we are left with big doughy mouthfuls that become tiresome after a few bites. Grilled Duck Breast - literally grilled over a flame until the bottom is charred. Imparts a burnt charred taste and also dries out the meat. More care should've been taken to grill the breast under lower heat to keep it nice and tender. Unfortunately, I believe there are many people who will love this, because it tastes more like chicken. Pork - we also had a pork dish which was so-so. They pork was overcooked, but not to the point where it tasted drier than the desert, which I've experienced in other restaurants. No one at our table could finish their meal and we left regretting the decision to eat here instead of hitting up Wegman's and throwing something together. I've given an extremely low rating because the quality of food did not come near expectations and price.

This is one of those places you DO NOT want to see on Yelp, for fear that it may become too well known and you will have to compete to eat there. I have noticed that multiple people have used the word "gem", and they are exactly right. My wife and I are Olive Garden freaks - not because we think it serves high end Italian Cuisine - but because of the all you can eat bread sticks and salad. But when we choose to eat Italian somewhere other than a chain restaurant, it is usually Agrodolce (although Lemoncello in Rockville is our favorite and another splendid find). The place is somewhat cramped - it adds to it's coziness and ambiance but don't think you can roll in there with six people and have spacious accommodations, unless you eat outside on the spacious terrace. The staff is young but attentive and pleasant, the food has been top notch each time we have been there, the beer (Peroni is my favorite with Italian grub) is ice cold, and the desserts are awesome (Try the apple bread pudding). They serve dishes here that you will never find at most Italian restaurants (like Duck Confit Risotto...yes, duck), and they are always tasty. Sometimes, when I am out on my own and feel like having a brew, I will walk in there and sit at the super tiny bar (four seater) to the right as you walk in. A flat screen usually has sports on, and I will order a beer from their expanding draft selection and choose the "four cheese pizza", which is a generous portion for one person. You literally sit there at the bar and watch them cook your pizza, made to order in a wood-burning oven. Doesnt get much better than that. Bring your wallet. This place ain't cheap. But you get what you pay for, and Agrodolce (or "Agro", as my Wife and I call it) is a prime example of that. Check it out. But don't tell your friends about it, because I need it to remain a secret.

So this is one of the harder reviews to write. There were so many great things followed by disappointments. So, my wife and I decided to go on a week night after so many recommendations from friends. We were greeted by a friendly hostess. However, our table was in a very claustrophobic section in between the bar and the rest of the dining room. In hindsight, I wish I asked to be reseated. We were starving and were immediately given hot bread. Awesome bread! However, it was brought by someone besides our server and we had to wait a while on our server. That was a theme for our night, waiting for our server. The beer menu was impressive with craft beer, many I hadn't heard of before. As a lover of hoppy beer, I tried the hopside down beer and it was terrible. For food, I got the pork Parmesan dish that was great! The sauce, meat, everything was near perfect. Then we had to wait on our server. She made the comment of take your time when she dropped the check off and my wife and I chuckled at the fact that we didn't have a choice. So the good: The food and the quick bread. The bad: The server, the table, and the beer. I recommend training their waitstaff and recommending beer pairings. Overall more good then bad and I will be back for another try.

From pasta to pizza... what's not to love? Agrodolce has been a staple of me and my family for years now and I am very happy to see that it is not going anywhere. They have a wide range of pasta entrees and brick oven pizzas that are all fabulous. They also have daily specials that are especially tasty. From appitizers to desserts this place is a can't miss if you are in the area. Great for a family dinner or date night. They also have live acoustic music (certain nights) and outdoor patio seating. Also, a great happy hour menu with great prices on beer, wine, and apps. Fettuccine ai Granseola is a seafood lovers dream and the Penne alla Milanese is served in a delightful tomato cream sauce that is to die for. Be sure to save room for dessert because they always have fabulous sweet treats from flavored cheesecakes to deconstructed tiramisu. A taste of Italy in Upper Montgomery County, simply wonderful! ;D

Ah... Thats all I can say about this place. We walked in to find a place that does not have waiter service, but looks like it should. I went with a co-worker after others recommended it. I was told their calabrese pizza is the best thing there and the pasta is not enjoyable. So, we ordered a $12 pizza and shared it. The pizza crust was ok, crispy but not chewy. I like my crust either like NY style or Chicago style and this was like high school pizza. The sauce was supposed to be spicy, but it really wasnt. The sausage was good, but there wasnt enough of it or the peppers. For $12, it was more a personal pizza than one to be shared. This place is expensive, no waiter service and decent quality food make a mediocre 3 star place.

Another great local gem in Germantown. I've been going here for a few years now, so I'm overdue for a review. The food is good. I'm no Italian aficionado, but their Italian is great to me. To start they bring out oven warm bread with olives. If you prefer, like I do, ask for olive oil and cheese (with crushed red peppers too). YUM!!! The pasta dishes are tasty and filling; and not too salty. We stick to the same thing generally. Also, the brick oven pizza is good. We normally go with the traditional cheese pizza...the Manhattan. Another hint, if you like, ask for freshly minced garlic. Again, YUM!!!! Everyone is friendly here. A few of the waiters know us and come to check in with us, even if we aren't in their section. The busboy is cool too; he always has a smile on his face. The only real reason they get 4 stars is because we tend to get sub par service when we sit in the bar area. The bartender is tending to the bar, answering the phone, making drinks for the servers, and waiting on the customers in the bar area. Spread too thin!

  • Bobbi Jo F.

Staff is very friendly. There is a waiter there that's very vocal about some entrees, which is good. When we told him what we've had before and what we thought of food there he said, "Wow, you tried this? I am surprised you came back, it's not very good." We agreed :) But it is one of the very very very few decent places to eat in Germantown. He made a couple of really good suggestions about what to order that we haven't tried yet, we followed and did not regret it. Fod is hit or miss... Some entrees really need work, and some are absolutely delicious. The restaurant has a very good beer selection.

I haven't been to this place in years but I never forgot it, which says a lot because my memory is lacking. I recall how good the pizza consistently was with fresh toppings, the perfect amount of cheese, good sauce, and crunchy crust. I love the variety of pizzas they have too. I remember having the Chicken Florentine quite regularly and loving the sauce that had hints of smoke and wine, fresh spinach and tender chicken. Oh how I miss you Agrodolce. I believe in 2003 and 2004 my family and I went quite regularly on the weekends and it never disappointed. The service was always good and the waiters were always, not only helpful, but pleasant. In 2003 we even had a wonderful New Years Eve dinner here where they served a five course meal with melt in your mouth foie gras on cranberry croutons, mahi mahi, and sweet moscato wine that tasted of oranges. I'm not really quite sure why we stopped going but I did move in late 2004 and my family tend to like to mix up their restaurant choices. I know a lot can change in 7-8 years but I hope this is the same Agrodolce I remember with its funky decor. I've only been once since those days, went with my Dad and boyfriend in 2009 and recall not much had changed. I will have to go again, check up on my old spot that is Agrodolce.

A friend introduced me to Agrodolce and this is now one of my favorite places to have dinner close to home. I love their fresh bread with chopped olives and their always-friendly service. The Fettuccine ai Granseola was the first dish I tried. The description made me salivate and it lives up to that description plus some. The Grilled Salmon Niçoise Style was also good, which I ordered without anchovies, and they have great pizza. Half price wine on Mondays doesn't hurt either.

I have been to Agrodolce multiple times over the past few years, for lunch and for dinner(mostly lunch), and can only recall one instance where the lunch special was not as good as it sounded on the blackboard. The food is very good, the salads excellent, and the service friendly. Go with any of their daily menu selections. A client from Italy had loved the food, and commented that it was just like back home.

On a scale of 1-10 (10 being the best) this place gets a 1. To begin, everything about this visit was a challenge, everything. We met some friends who were already seated. (6 of us total). After we sat down a waitress came by and asked if we wanted more bread, I said yes please. We never throughout the entire meal saw more bread. At some point waitress comes back to take drink orders. After repeated visits back to our table (w/o the bread) continuous apologies for the delay of the drinks but no drinks. Eventually, the drinks come out wrong. I ordered Ice tea w/Lemon. Mine came w/no lemon. Another order DIET coke and of course they got regular coke. Those who ordered water got nothing at all. Several Times (been there 30-45 min by now) I asked for butter. It never came. Finally I got up and walked into the kitchen and asked for butter and lemons. I found the butter and lemons myself took what I wanted and went back to my table. 4 of the 6 dinners come out. So - so at best, but certainly not worth $20 a pop. Of the 4 who were served out of the 6 of us, 2 were finished and the other 2 were almost done when they brought out the 2 missing orders. I ordered Chicken Marsala w/ a salad. When I saw the chicken dish I immediately told the waitress to please remove the charge for the salad from the bill l no longer wanted it. I would have thought since they left us sitting so long they would have at least brought the salad to occupy me. Nope.... As for the chicken Marsala, it was a piece of cold chicken smothered in tomato sauce straight from the can with mushrooms on top. It was disgusting. I sent it back and said I didn't want anything else. The other dish which was Ravioli w/seafood or something in it - My friend didn't finish it. I think he was just too embarrassed to send it back at that point. Throughout our table time we asked for drink refills which we never got. I have NEVER done the dine and dash but Iwas seriously considering it tonight! I'm not sure what training the cooks get there or where they come from but the food was tasteless, canned tomato sauce, served cold, and if they didn't know how to make a dish I guess they just make something up and smother it in canned tomato sauce. This place would be ok if the prices were $7.50 - $9.50 an entree for the so so food but certainly not worth anywhere near what they are charging. Was a very disappointing evening. Needless to say, we won't be going there again.

In town for business and saw good reviews. Slightly cramped seating, but well worth it. Great price on appetizers during happy hour. The mussels were the best I have ever had with great sauce and plating. Bruschetta was average. Inside out calimari stuffed with ground italian sausage over linguni was incredible. Server Brandi was attentive, but not overly so. Best italian food I have had this year. Highly recommend, Good value, good food, good service!!

*3.5 stars* For this neck of the woods, where Applebee's, McD's and Bob Evans are easy to find, but something more upscale is more difficult to find, Agrodolce can practically be classified as fine dining. The prices are, in my opinion, a bit too high for what you get. The last time I was here, however, my sister-in-law had a salad about which she was over the moon excited (it contained beets, so definitely would not be for everyone), and my nephew commented that the mussels were larger than at Mannequin Pis. I wasn't exactly blown away by pasta dish, but my sister loved hers. Our waiter was young, but provided pretty good service. They do have outdoor seating, which is nice particularly since the restaurant seems to be over air conditioned.

The quality of food and the service are always outstanding! I have yet to have a bad meal at this restaurant, quite the opposite in fact as I end up loving everything I order! From the appetizer course (try the tempura fried green beans) to the dessert course, the food is always impeccably prepared and presented. They also always offer delicious seasonal options (such as pumpkin and butternut squash flavors in the fall). The bar area is small but they offer some great happy hour specials (these can be enjoyed in the main dining area as well). The lunch service is more cafeteria style where you order your food at the bar and they call your number when your order is ready, but the quality of the food remains. Definitely a must try in the Germantown area!

The best Italian Restaurant in Germantown. Their Gnocci are the best! Very tasty! They make the best bolognese sauce. Pizza is very yummy. The crusty is thin and tastes homemade. Great hospitality. Their appetizers are off the chains. The setting in very intimate and you dont get that crowed feeling...

It is definitely unexpected to fine world class wood oven pizza in the middle of nowhere. I was definitely impressed. Nice place clean cozy food so good it will make a 3 year old ask for more.

When Agrodolce first appeared on the scene in Germantown in 2003, they quickly filled a void in the restaurant scene in the NW Maryland suburbs of DC. The Washingtonian featured it as one of the 100 best Restaurants in the DC region and urban denizens would even venture out on occasion to sample their neo-traditional Northern Italian fare. Since then, the buzz has died down but Agrodolce continues to serve up fresh and delicious pasta, meats, and wood-fired pizzas, including a revolving list of daily specials that feature seasonal ingredients. And they also feature one of the best wine lists in the area. It's worth clarifying that Agrodolce provides waiter service for dinner during the week and throughout the day on weekends. However, in an effort to offer mid-day diners a better value during the work week, lunch orders are taken at the counter from Mon-Fri from a simplified, yet extensive lunch menu (be sure to check the daily specials board near the front door). For many, this is the only way they have experienced Agrodolce, but rest assured they are a full service restaurant for weekday dinners and on the weekends. And trust me when I say this is a value-oriented way to enjoy a good meal at one of the best restaurants in the area. The outdoor dining in summer is a real treat and I often head over on sunny days to enjoy their wonderful spinach salad with roasted beets and candied walnuts or the penne with grilled radicchio and goat cheese. For dinner, I recommend the tempura-fried green beans (fagioli fritti), the farfalle w/ shrimp and scallops, and per my more carnivorous friends, any/all of their veal dishes. And yes, the wood-fired pizzas are wonderful, especially the "Rocket" white w/ shallots and arugula and the Spinaci e Carciofo (w/ goat cheese), and the brilliantly simple margherita w/ fresh mozzarella. Plenty for one, but enough for two to share alongside a salad.

We ate here and the service was very good. However the $20 entrées were mediocre at best. I wouldn't go back because it is expensive for the way the food tastes.

The bf was in the mood for Italian so we came here for lunch. This place is tucked away in a shopping center. The decor is nice. Their bread was very good!! We ordered a pizza and a pasta. The pizza was okay. The cheese on the pizza didn't taste fresh. The pasta was okay. I may or may not come back.

We went there again on Thursday 24 June and once again, great food, great service. I love the fresh baked bread and olives they bring to the table. The tempura battered green beans are a great way to try to get kids (both large and small) to eat their veggies. The veal shank meat just fell off the bone, into the creamy risotto. The sorbet assortment was delightful, not too sweet and you could really taste the mango! We sat on the patio, and not that romantic, but if you have kids, good option, as they can waner around and let parents dine in peace. I can't wait to get back there.

Agrodolce has quickly become a favorite (regular). Aside from the 'typical' Italian dishes, many originals. Haven't had anything I didn't think was very good. Service is also very good and attentive.

Best Italian food in Germantown by far!!! We go here at least once a month, usually two or three times. In addition to their well known wine selection they also have a Great beer selection. My kids love the pizza. I have never had a bad meal here whether it's the rack of lamb, scallops, chicken or pasta - and the staff is always very professional and attentive.

EVERYTHING about this place is EXCELLENT! The service, the food, the atmosphere- including the attitude of the staff, management, and all the way to the top- the owner! Love, love, love Agrodolce! I've been there countless times, so I'm thinking I should be able to give it 5 stars a bunch of times... would that be fair? Anyway, if you have a sweet tooth, get the lemon sorbet. My favorite entree' is the arugula salad with salmon. The pizzas are the bomb (brick oven over real wood!) and the wine selection is unbelievable. Keep up the great work Agrodolce!!!

Amazing service, great inventive food, and I had the best beer that I've probably ever had in my life there- the flying dog pumpkin something something (It was around 10% alcohol).

I went here for lunch on a weekday afternoon so it was pretty empty. You order your food at the bar counter, pick it up and seat yourself. I kind of liked that casualness. Looking at the lunch menu, it seemed as if all the selections including seafood/chicken/vegetarian pasta, appetizers, pizza, salad & sandwiches are no more than 13 or so dollars. So not bad at all. I had the vegetarian pizza and it was definitely a great choice. Big pieces of basil, broccoli, mushroom and tomato. Enough to make me want to come back and check out some other options!

service here was really nice i remembered. the decor inside was like sitting in a patio underneath what looks like an unfinished gazebo with unpainted wood. the lights on the tables did not match the mood- it was colorful small lampshades from ikea. beef lasagna was fresh and the tomato sauce tasted very organic. bf had the bbq pizza, he said it was pretty good. my biggest complaint is the tiramisu cake for dessert. the cake was not dipped in rum. the lady fingers were hard like crackers. and they served it with icecream??

I usually stop in here for lunch or dinner if I'm working in the area. The food is good, and I like that they've always got great beer on tap. Definitely not the standard Bud, Sam Adams, Yuengling, etc...

I started coming to this place in about 2000 when it opened as Cafe Mileto - they changed names to Agrodolce pretty soon after. I worked out in Germantown and this was by far the best option for lunch with delicious fresh pasta and salad options. We used to go here every week and called it the cafeteria - they even gave us a discount. Then I moved out of town and had not been here in about three years until we went to dinner there last week. I am glad to say that the place is as good as I remember. The atmosphere is still great - Germantown has come a long way in the last 10 years but this remains one of the great little independents in the area. We had the Belgian mussels appetizer. It was creamier than your average mussel dish but absolutely delicious - especially with the home made bread. I wanted to have the duck three ways but they were out so I went with the veal with prosciutto which did not disappoint. My friends calamari in red sauce dish was also great. The menu here is far from your typical chain menu with repetitious Tuscan dishes and well worth seeking out. I am glad this place is still here and doing great - I will be back again when I am in town.

I ate lunch at Agrodolce on Wednesday, July 6, 2011. I decided to try a ravioli listed as a daily special. It was DEVINE!!! The homemade ravioli had a (very slightly smokey) sauce with bits of corn and carrots, I have been craving it ever since. The brick-oven cooked bread and olive tapanade was Delicious as usual. Oooooh, that ravioli dish was SO GOOD. Bravo!

Have been here twice with the spouse and had a pretty good experience both times. The service staff is very good and very friendly. The first time we sat indoors, the second time outdoors. On our second visit we brought our dog and the server even brought him water without our asking. That was very nice of him. The food is hit or miss here. We had the calamari and the caprese salad. The calamari was decent; caprese salad was SUPERB. We ordered it again the second time we went as well. The bread is really delicious, and it comes with an olive spread which is SO good, that we would come back again just for these two items. Our first visit we didn't have much luck with the entrees. We had the gnocci bolognese which tasted a little sour and there was definitely way too much wine in it. We also had a fish special which was good but not spectacular. Our second visit we had the Calabrese pizza which was great, and also a special seafood pasta -- and that was a winner! It was DELICIOUS and we really enjoyed it. This is a great neighborhood find, there is lots of room for parties or just a quiet dinner for two. We would definitely go back, maybe tonight! We like all the service staff -- they are very good. Haven't tried dessert yet but when we do we'll let you know how it is!

Have not been to Agrodoice in several years, last night will be my last. First on the positive side, the service was very good. Attentive and informative. Food was a disappointment. Over priced and bland. We ordered pizza, which was at best "bland" and cool when it arrived at table. It was suppose to have grilled vegetables, but resembled blanched and soggy. Salad average with again semi-grilled veggies and overpriced! If looking for great food, look elsewhere.

Have previously visited for lunch and found it good value for money. This time we stopped by midweek for dinner and found the food very disappointing and somewhat pricy. Very few light selections on the menu. Complementary bread tasted dry and stale. Mussels appetiser was OK although heavy on the cream. Chilean sea bass special came with a sauce that tasted bizarre, and the pork tenderloins were the consistency and appearance of shoe soles in a bland red sauce. Both dishes were accompanied with risotto that was boring. Food tasted old and stale. Do the chefs ever taste their food? Oh and their capuccino machine was broken. Totally unmemorable meal which did not inspire me to want to return. Much better to drive 20 minutes north on 355 if you want good italian food. The restaurant got it's 2 stars for the excellent service and the beautiful presentation of the food. Sadly it got no stars for the quality of it's food.

One of the few decent restaurants in the Germantown area. I've been there twice and the food is consistently good, with great service. Even better is plenty of outdoor seating. The Fried Oyster app is very good. Cooked perfectly and the dressing on the salad is yum! The tempura green beans are nicely presented and very unusual. Quite good! I've also had pizza, Fettuccine ai Granseola (whoa, is this good!), and Linguine Frutti di Mare. They are genereous with the portions and the amount of seafood. The apple bread pudding dessert is awesome! Tons of bernaise sauce. I am so glad to have such a nice place right down the street.

When you live out in the boonies (well, not REALLY, but my friends all say I do), it's tough finding a decent restaurant without driving at least a half hour. So, when we found Agrodolce in the Zagat's guide, we thought we'd give it a try. Agrodolce is located in a strip mall next to a tanning salon. Parking can be a little tight, but not impossible. The restaurant is decorated with an Italian bistro/Northern California theme. Tables are covered with white tablecloths and napkins. The chairs however are rather uncomfortable. There is also outdoor seating which is pleasant. Although the wait staff all seem to be teenagers, they are extremely attentive and professional. There are usually 3-4 specials that include fish and meat dishes in addition to the regular menu. Be sure to check out the board posted at the entrance or ask the waiter. A must try is the foccacia and tapenade. The foccacia comes out piping hot and doughy combined with the tasty tapenade is delicious. The appetizer list is not very large, but the calamari is worth a try. It's light, flaky and flavorful. Salads are good as a starter or entree. All entrees are large enough to share, unless you're really hungry or like leftovers. They also have freshly made thin-crust pizzas. Desserts are a must-try. They have the Italian favorites like cannolis and tiramisu as well as strawberry shortcake and creme brulee. The tiramisu is extraordinary...not too large a portion, very rich. Overall, it's a great little local place if you live in the Germantown/Damascus area.

former employee of Agrodolce (bartender). lets start with the appetizers! the carpaccio di manzo is absolutely delicsious, capers, raw filet, and roasted peppers. belgian mussels are worth a try, though the "stout beer" sauce is a bit too rich and overwhelming. always ask for the foccacia and tampenade spread, those olives got me through the slow saturday nights. great wine list when the bar is fully stocked, wonderful domestic and imported beers including Chimay, Delerium Tremens and Nocturnum, Omnegang Abbey, etc.. small, but intimate bar area. as for the menu, the dishes were better under the former chef/manager's hands. more flavorful, more savory. some entrees were taken off the menu, just ask, and the chefs will be glad to make them for you. ask for the gamberi salad (mesculin mix, goat cheese, grilled shrimp and roasted peppers, my absolute favorite). their caprese salad is the best ive EVER had. try the three cheese ravioli with pesto, or the linguini frutti di mare. the pizzas are always mind blowing, prices start at $10 for a regular manhattan (cheese) pizza. extensive pizza menu, or build your own. in my opinion, Raul's pizzas are incomparable. Fresh ingredients, every day. make sure you save room for dessert! the trio cheesecake (coffee, caramel, chocolate) is to die for. almost rivals the chocolate mousse, with fresh strawberries and an almond/caramel shell that quite literally melts in your mouth. monday through friday, you'll find the lunch hours more casual; seat yourself/order at the counter type deal. it's a trade off; the entrees are about half price during the lunch hours. always check the board for new specials!

This restaurant is tucked away in a Germantown shopping center, yes tucked away. It sits in the corner suite of a strip mall next to Bob Evans and Applebee's. If you're familiar with the Walmart, Best Buy and Target, then you'll know where this is. We had a late dinner, so there were empty tables. We chose to sit outside since it was a nice evening. The hostess was nice, greeted us and sat us right away. A server brought out our bread almost immediately and the next server came by to take our drink order. The salad and appetizer we ordered arrived in a good amount of time, however our food took a little longer. Not too bad, but still unusually long considering it was around 8:30 PM. Otherwise, service was good and server checked on us a few times, as well as refilled our drinks. On to the food ... the bread is pretty good and is served with chopped black olives, mixed in with EVOO. If you like black olives, these have a bite to them, good stuff in my opinion. But, do not over munch on it! Next up was some caesar salad we got with our meals. The dressing was rather unique and wasn't really a caesar dressing. I recommend it on the side if you do get it. Another appetizer we got was prosciutto grilled cheese sitting on a bed of tomato soup. The grilled cheese was really good, nice toasted crusted bread with some good slices of prosciutto. The tomato "soup" was not that great. It was almost like tomato sauce in my opinion. We got two pizzas and some fettuccine pasta with some seafood. Pizza has a nice toasty thin crust. Can't recall the name of the pizza I got but it was decent. I wasn't to thrilled of the stewed peppers in mine, but still a good sauce. The fettuccine was good, the noodles were done just right. Sauce is decent, not great though. I'd go back to this spot. It's good Italian food vs the normal, chained ones in the area like Macaroni Grill or That's Amore. Plus they have brick oven pizzas which is always a plus. Prices are a tad high, but not too steep.

We had a fabulous New Year's Eve Dinner at Agrodolce last night. We're accustomed to having nice meals at this restaurant but the owner/chef really outdid himself last night. The dinner specials were outstanding. We had the filet mignon with a red wine sauce, served with mashed sweet potatoes sprinkled with pomegranite seeds with a side of braised leeks and duck breast with homemade ravioli, a butternut squash/pear concoction that was superb. A really nice malbec wine. Wonderful desserts - a rissoto rice pudding for me, an individual chocolate torte for my husband. Excellent service from friendly servers who are attentive but do not hover. Agrodolce is much more than what you'd expect from an Italian restaurant in a shopping center.

What a great find in a strip mall! It definitely verges on fine dining. Everything we got was very tasty and beautifully presented. Kudos to the chef and kitchen staff! It's a bit on the pricey side, so we probably won't be able to come back often, but it is very tasty food and a great choice if you're in the neighborhood.

I will preface this review by saying that if I were a professional restaurant reviewer I probably wouldn't be able to write this, because I think they have to try a lot more dishes on the menu than I have. That said, this is absolutely the one "go to" restaurant that everyone in my family (that would be me, hubby and daughter) are always able to agree on ... We've been going here dating back to the days when it was known as La Terrazza (a previous poster mentioned it used to be Cafe Mileto ... I know the Cafe Mileto over in another Germantown strip mall but not sure if it was CM prior to being La Terrazza or if they have confused the two) ... I am only going to write about the dinner service/menu. I see many have already given you info about how they handle lunch. FOOD: One thing you should know about Agrodolce is that it's NOT your "typical" Italian restaurant where you'll see a menu featuring options with every kind of meat a la parmigiana, piccata, etc., and your staple pasta dishes. The menu, from appetizers to salads to main courses, is creative to say the least and picky/traditional eaters might not find their usual Italian restaurant favorites (for example, I'd never bring my mother-in-law here). Unusual ingredients and combinations are intriguing but I'm not the most adventurous gourmand so for that reason I have my small list of "never fail" favorites and stick to it! If I'm in the mood for pasta, I always get there Chicken Milanese dish, though I substitute fettucine for the penne (they are awesome about substitutions, etc.) and leave off the mushrooms. The tomato-based cream sauce is outstanding, the chicken always juicy -- this is one of my favorite pasta dishes ever (though I truly miss a tortellini dish in a similar sauce they had on the old menu and hope they will bring it back one day). However -- and this is coming from someone who spent their first 30 years in New York City and is VERY picky about their pizza -- I will say that Agrodolce's pizza is THE BEST IN THE ENTIRE DC AREA ... if you're a New York pizza lover (as in thin crust, gooey cheese, etc). The Manhattan pizza is practically perfect ... I prefer the plain, my daughter likes it with pepperoni or chicken, my husband changes with the wind ... they make it in a perfect "personal pizza" size -- not so small that you're left wanting more, and sometimes you'll have a few slices left to take home and enjoy the next day. I love the salads here, to the point that I admit I have not tried as many of the appetizers as I should have ... the small dinner salad is delicious, especially with some feta cheese and a great variety of vinaigrette-based dressings to choose from. If you want something bigger to share with someone(s), they have a rotating list of great (big) salads as well. I can't overlook dessert, which is, interestingly enough, one of the best-kept secrets of this gem of a restaurant. Whoever makes the dessert could absolutely submit themselves to one of the TV dessert competitions ... the chocolate mousse is so amazing that when my daughter's boyfriend (a total SF-area foodie) came to visit over Thanksgiving, and she could have taken him ANYWHERE in DC for dinner, Agrodolce was her choice for the pizza and the chocolate mousse. My choice is usually the three sorbets, which often includes a perfect passion fruit ... DRINK: As far the wine list goes, I have yet to go to a restaurant with a better "house wine" in terms of taste, value, quality ... their Montepulciano d'Abruzzo is inexpensive, they're generous with the pouring, and it's so good I have made a point to go out and buy bottles of it for home. SERVICE: If the food didn't keep me coming back, the service would. The corps of waiters (and one waitress, the awesome Connie who has been there for as long as we've been going but never seems to age) is almost like family now. They're all pretty young (my guess is 20s and 30s) but they ALL recognize me, remember me and even if they're not my server for the night, there is never a meal there where I don't have every waiter come over to personally greet me, chat with me and, if I'm alone (it's my favorite place to go with just a good book for my salad, meal and wine), ask how my family is, etc. They know my favorite wine, they know I don't like to get the bread (which most people love -- it comes with an olive tapenade -- but I tend to forego bread to leave room for all the other goodies). Cliche it may sound, but going to Agrodolce for dinner is kind of like "going home." And I can't help but think that it must have pretty great owners to have such little turnover. COST: The prices are VERY reasonable, I can get my favorite food and never be disappointed, and there is rarely a wait (Friday and Saturday evenings may get busy). When the weather is nice, there is a lovely courtyard out back which the restaurant shares with the Chinese buffet next door in the strip mall ... a really nice place to dine al fresco.

Lunch options are limited out here. I feel fortunate to have found this place. The pizza here is delicious, and the pasta is really good. I have not tried the panini or salads. The pasta portions are extremely generous. The food is always fresh and piping hot! I really like the penne alla milanese, and I appreciate that they accommodate making it sans pancetta for me. The baked ziti is good too. The restaurant is cute, and I really like the outdoor seating. At lunch time it is never excessively crowded. I have not been here for dinner.

Cute little restaurant, tapenade is great! We found a piece of plastic in our calamari so that was disappointing, but the service was great. I had the pesto and it was very fresh and yummy, dessert was to die for. Good wines. A great place to go for a drink and dessert maybe a light something to share.

the staff here is amazing. best service in town. my family and i have been waited on by 3 of them and they are all great. the food is good (above average) and the atmosphere is very fun, especially on thursday's when they have live music. the happy hour specials are very very good. i recommend the wasabi crusted fried oysters over a bed of salad.

I went for the first time for lunch today and it was great. You place your order at the counter and then find a place to sit (it may be different for dinner). I had the Gnocci and Scallops in Butternut Squash sauce and my friend had the Penne alla Milanese. Both were very good and fresh, but I probably wouldn't get my entree again, too bland a sauce, stick to something with tomato sauce. Their wine list is extensive and the desserts sound good too. Apparently, it's a great place for happy hour with lots of outside and inside tables. I like the casual, California atmosphere.

I went there on monday night and had the Chicken Florentine, which was ok. The chicken was a little dry and the fettucine was bland. My friend had the Baby Lamb Rack. He said it was very flavorful. The good thing about going there on Monday night is the half price wint. :)

I've always seen this place but never stopped in. Years later I moved back to the area and decided to try it out. The place is warm and inviting. High exposed ceilings, bulb lit trellises, walls of wine, plenty to look at that fits the vibe. I chose to sit at the small bar that had a few nice beers on tap and a view directly into the kitchen / brick woodfire oven. The kitchen is very clean. You can see the line chefs caring for each and every dish then cleaning up right behind every step. The staff members are all very friendly as well. I've since made this my staple italian place to take family and friends. The appetizer deal is insanely good (half off). They have the biggest most flavorful mussels I've had (New Zealand mussels). Their pizzas are hand made to order and thrown in a brick oven cooked to perfection. The bread and tapinade they serve is devilish. The bread is warm, flakey, buttery, and moist, it could almost be it's own meal. Their deserts are top of the line. My only complaint is that I could send myself into a food coma every time I eat here. See photos.

The last time my husband and I tried to eat here we walked out. It was pretty dead in there and after 5 minutes no one had come to take our order. We gave them another shot this week, and we walked out AGAIN! We came in for lunch. The bartender told us to grab a table and order at the bar. Now if I'm paying over $15 for an entree I think you should wait on me. Maybe you think this is snobby, but if I wanted counter service I'd go to Chipotle or &pizza. I always want to like this place but it seriously disappoints.

I have been here twice, the staff both times were attentive and super nice. I think it was due to the fact that it wasn't that busy. Order the bruschetta both times, it is on almost puffy pizza bread, which I liked but my brother thought was weird. The atmosphere is very relaxed and nice here.

I went for happy hour not to long ago and they have a great selection on draft- which is 2$ off during the HH. Huge fan of the Proscuitto Grilled Cheese, the perfect savory combination of gooey cheese and crispy bread, also 6$ during their HH. The ambiance is something like Olive Garden- cheap, although you can see the effort. The bar area is also way too small. I think they had like 4 seats along the bar and like 3 tables. I was definitely squished, so squished in fact that one would think I was sitting in the lap of the girl beside me.

Great place to eat. Food is great. Beer and wine selection is top notch. Friendly atmosphere, service is phenomenal. Servers are helpful and very friendly. The owners make you feel that you are welcome. They seem to appreciate that you are there and want you to feel satisfied. This is a great place not only to get dinner. But if you just want to slide in, grab a beer or glass of wine and appetizer, you will not be disappointed.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
